Boxer History Boxers are large, muscular, square-headed dogs that are extremely playful and have a lot of energy. The typical Boxer is intelligent, alert, and fearless, yet friendly. He's loyal to his family and loves to play with them, but he's also headstrong, especially if you try to use harsh training methods with him. They are extremely patient and gentle, especially with children. They are high energy dogs and need a lot of exercise. Because of their strength and courage, Boxers have a wide use in the military and the police, as well as search-and-rescue work. When specifically trained for guard work, Boxers are excellent watchdogs and will restrain an intruder in the same manner as a Mastiff. Boxers also excel in obedience, agility, and schutzhund a demanding three-phase competition event that tests the dog's tracking, obedience, and protection abilities. Boxers should not be left outdoors for extended periods of time. Their short nose doesn't cool hot air efficiently in the summer, and their short coat doesn't keep them warm in the winter. The Bullenbeisser had been used as a hunting dog for centuries to hunt bear, wild boar, and deer. They were trained to catch the prey and hold onto it until the hunters arrived. The Boxer we know today was developed in the late 19th century. Lehman of New York. Unfortunately, there weren't many female Boxers in the U. When Word War I broke out, Boxers were enlisted into the military, serving as messenger dogs, carrying packs, and acting as attack and guard dogs. Boxers started becoming popular in the U. Being a family lover from all sides, the Miniature Schnauzer makes for a great pet. Its popularity kept it from extinction when its number shrank in WWI, and this can be attributed to its happy and positive personality. People love its loving, caring and playful nature. Originally the Miniature Schnauzer was bred to catch rats as well as to act as guard dogs on farms. The Miniature Schnauzer was created by crossing the Standard Schnauzer with other smaller breeds such as the Miniature Pinscher, Affenpinscher and maybe others smaller animals like the Poodle and Pomeranian. There are no exact records of how the Miniature Schnauzer was created, but the earliest record of a Miniature Schnauzer is from October .But, soon after WWI the popularity of the Miniature Schnauzer grew, and it has been on a high ever since. The biggest change from the original Miniature Schnauzer to the more modern day version is the color. Miniature Schnauzers used to be red, black and tan, yellow or parti-color. Today; however, the Miniature Schnauzers are usually shades of black and silver. The Miniature Schnauzer was accepted into the American Kennel Club in , which was only two years after the breed was introduced to the United States. These dogs love their families and love to play! A Miniature Schnauzer is a small, sturdy dog that tends to be bright, friendly, outgoing, and charming. They tend to get along with children and other dogs. They are even open and friendly with strangers as long as they are well-socialized. They do have a high prey drive and an urge to chase, so they will need extra socialization and training with other pets in the household. Mini Schnauzers also tend to be alert and watchful dogs that can be prone to barking. Training your dog to stop barking early on can keep this from becoming a nuisance behavior. If the other parent breed is similar, then you could expect a similar temperament from a Miniature Schnauzer Mix. You still want to ask about the other parent breed as they are likely to introduce some quirks of their own. You can meet the mother in person to see what her temperament is like and to see the behavior she is modeling for her puppies. Although the breeder should have started socialization and training, it is up to you to continue to train and socialize a puppy once you get them home. Mini Schnauzers are highly adaptable dogs. They do well in apartments and larger homes as well as most climates. Because they have a high prey drive, they should only be let off-leash in secure areas. They also do not like long periods of time alone as they are very family-oriented dogs. The other parent breed could introduce some traits that affect adaptability, so you want to make sure you ask the breeder about them. If they are also highly adaptable, then you should be able to expect the same from a Miniature Schnauzer Mix. Just as a mixed-breed dog can inherit none of the conditions common to their parent breeds, they could also inherit all of them or any combination of them. From the Miniature Schnauzer, potential health concerns to be aware of in a Miniature Schnauzer Mix include urinary stones, pancreatitis, cataracts, liver shunts, and hyperlipidemia. Reputable breeders screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues on to puppies, so make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Mini Schnauzers are highly trainable dogs that are a good fit for all owners. They pick up on things quickly, so they can also get bored easily. The other parent could make a Miniature Schnauzer Mix more difficult to train, so you do want to ask about them. A Miniature Schnauzer Mix can inherit a coat similar to one of their parents or a coat that is a mix of both. Should they inherit the Mini Schnauzer coat, it will be short, wiry, and low-shedding. Brushing a few times a week, a bath monthly, and grooming every weeks will keep the Schnauzer coat healthy. If you have to visit the groomer every month or so, they can help with some of this, but you will still need to do maintenance in between appointments. Nail trims once or twice a month keep them from growing too long. Weekly ear checks plus careful cleaning as needed can help prevent ear infections. You also want to practice good dental care for dogs. As a small dog breed, a Miniature Schnauzer Mix will be more prone to developing dental diseases later in life. This makes good dental early in life and consistently throughout even more important. Daily brushing or use of an enzyme toothpaste plus cleanings at the vet as needed are ideal. Although they are lively, active, and energetic dogs, Mini Schnauzers are not high-energy and tend to sit in a more moderate range. Daily walks plus playtime and some extra activity are usually enough to keep them happy and healthy. If the other parent breed is also in a more moderate range, then you should be able to expect something similar in a Mini Schnauzer Mix. If the other parent breed requires more or less activity, then you will need to be prepared for that potential energy range. Fully-grown Mini Schnauzers usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. The other parent breed can have a big effect on this, especially if they are the mother. A Miniature Schnauzer generally lives for years. Although the other parent breed may affect this slightly, you should be able to expect a similar average life span in a Miniature Schnauzer Mix. They are on their best behavior in the company of their owners, as they tend to bark or dig when left alone at home. Incredibly smart, energetic, and loyal, these pups have a work-hard, play-hard mindset that best suits someone with an active lifestyle. These are big, lovable dogs that are incredibly smart and equally stubborn. But while training them takes additional patience, the reward of their loyalty and devotion is well worth it. These dogs are charming, funny, and smart, and their alert nature—thanks to that double dose of working-breed attentiveness—makes them excellent watchdogs. These dogs are friendly and affectionate little comedians with a sweet temperament and a zest for life. It's also believed to be the oldest of the designer dog breeds in America, dating back to the s. It's also commonly known as the Havadoodle or Havanoodle—their intelligent and playful personalities make them a total joy for the whole family. And if you want a calm, sweet dog with lots of love to give, then this mix fits the bill. But calm doesn't mean small. They can grow to be as big as pounds. Because of their eager-to-please personalities, they tend to be protective of their families. This dog may have the curly coat of a Poodle or the long, straight coat of a Shih Tzu, but he always has a cute, alert expression and a sturdy body. When it comes to big breeds, this mix wins the prize—weighing anywhere between 70 to pounds. These dogs are fun-loving, affectionate family companions that need lots of room to run around and plenty of food to meet their nutritional needs. Petite and curly-coated, this is a delightful mix that is likable in personality, if not a little feisty at times. They tend to be vocal if alerted to something, and so they make good little watchdogs. Was this page helpful? There are more than 40 types of poodle mixes to choose from, and each comes with a unique set of traits to love. While some of these names may sound like they belong on the pages of a Dr. Seuss book, these furry friends are sure to make an excellent addition to your family. Here are some of the most popular dog breeds mixed with a poodle to consider if you're considering adopting a dog. No matter your decision, all these four-legged, furry friends are sure to put a smile on your face. Goldendoodles are known to be great family companions and are highly intelligent. As a result, they're usually easy to train but have enough energy to keep up with an active family. Some Goldendoodles are hypoallergenic, which may help family members with allergy issues. They're adorable and will get a lot of attention from anyone who sees it. Yorkiepoos are typically sweet, playful, and intelligent. Their diminutive stature makes them a perfect fit for apartment or condo living. However, because they're small, they often do better in a home with older children or adults who know how to handle them with care. Like other smaller dogs, the Yorkiepoo can tend to bark excessively without proper training, so be proactive to curb this behavior. If you love the gentle, sweet nature of Bernese Mountain dogs but are overwhelmed by their large size, a Bernedoodle might be the perfect compromise. While poodles can be energetic, Bernenoodles tend to be a little more content to cozy up on the couch, thanks to their Bernese mountain dog traits. Many Labradoodles have a poodle's coat and shed less than purebred labs, though coat style and color can vary. Labradoodles love company and are happy to be a part of the family. Whoodles are typically medium-sized and filled with energy, so they will not enjoy being couch potatoes. Though they mean no harm, Whoodles want to chase smaller animals, so they'll fare best in a home without cats, rabbits, or other small creatures. Pomapoos tend to be small but have big personalities and are highly affectionate. They love their families so much that they can face separation anxiety if left alone for too long. They train easily and usually get along well with kids and other pets. You may also hear them called a Sheepapoo or Sheepdogpoo. They tend to be intelligent and friendly and usually get along well with other dogs. Because of their herding background, they may play rough with smaller animals or little kids, so be mindful of your family's makeup before adding a Sheepadoodle to your brood. These dogs are intelligent and easy to train, with plenty of energy to burn. They may be territorial over their home and family, so don't be surprised if they bark for a few minutes when visitors come by. However, they're ultra-sweet once they're comfortable with you. Cockapoos were among the first popular "designer dogs" and have been highly in demand for decades. They make cheerful family companions. Though they're beautiful dogs, cockapoos tend to require a reasonably intensive grooming routine, which may not fit families already pressed for time. These pups tend to have a "pack" mentality, which means they'll love participating in family activities. Cavapoos typically don't shed much and skew on the smaller size. They're usually gentle, friendly, and love to cuddle. This pup, a blend of Bichon Frise and poodle, is sure to steal the hearts of everyone in your family. If you're looking for a furry best friend that loves to cuddle, a Poochon is a perfect pick. Just be sure to work on barking when your dog is young to prevent them from becoming a loudmouth as they age. Though they're diminutive in stature, Maltipoos have highly expressive faces. They're incredibly affectionate and make great companions, but their excessive love for their family can spur some separation anxiety. They're not ideal pets if you work long hours outside the home. These dogs are intelligent and sweet-natured. Schnoodles are a blend of two working dogs, which means you'll get an attentive, alert pup that can make an excellent watchdog. Chipoos love to play and cuddle. They tend to be protective over their family and home, so even though they're tiny and not very intimidating, their "hey, what's this person doing here? These little guys and girls are typically highly intelligent, energetic, and loving. Appearance varies depending on whether your dog favors his Jack Russell or poodle side, but in almost all cases, these dogs are relatively small. Jack-a-poos need plenty of exercise time, so this puppy is best suited for a family looking to engage in many games of fetch. Besides being adorable, these pups are sweet-natured and highly intelligent. Aussiedoodles have a wide variety of coat colors and textures. They're loyal companions eager to please, making them a great addition to your family. These striking pups make loving, calm family pets. But, as you might imagine, their Pyrenees side means that Pyredoodles aren't exactly pocket pups. They can weigh up to pounds when they're fully grown. This type of dog probably isn't a fit if you live in a small apartment. Depending on your particular pup, these darling dogs may have the curly coat of a poodle or the straight, soft hair of a Shih Tzu. Either way, they make perky, playful companions. They love attention and are more than content cuddling with their humans on the couch. Frequently Asked Questions Which poodle mix is the calmest? Among larger doodles, the bernedoodle and goldendoodle have a reputation for being calm, while the maltipoo and cavapoo are considered calm toy mixes. Choose a poodle crossed with a laid-back breed to increase the chances you'll get a calm dog. Which poodle mix does not shed? Poodles aren't shedders, which is one reason why poodle mixes are so popular. A poodle mix with another breed that isn't a shedder is more likely to be a no-shed dog. Was this page helpful? Black Poodle Puppy Black toy Poodle puppy Poodles are one of the most popular dog breeds worldwide and come in many colors including black. Black Poodle puppies are perhaps the most elegant and regal looking of all the Poodle colors. Black Poodle puppies are just as intelligent and active as other Poodle colors. They make great family dogs and get along well with children and other pets. Black Poodles do require daily exercise and grooming, but this is true of all Poodles regardless of color. When it comes to personality, black Poodle puppies tend to be calm, dignified, and good natured. They make loyal, affectionate companions and are typically easy to train. It is also a very versatile breed, as it can be trained to perform many different tasks. The Standard Poodle is an excellent choice for families with children, as they are very gentle and loving dogs. Though they are small in size, Toy Poodles are big on personality. They are intelligent, alert, and obedient, making them great companions. First, they are the smallest size of Poodle, and they typically weigh less than six pounds. They are also very intelligent, and they make great companion dogs. They do require regular grooming, however, as their coat can become matted if not brushed regularly. Teacup Poodles are a popular choice for those looking for a small dog that is both intelligent and easy to care for. Some may even weigh up to pounds. The height of a black giant Poodle at the shoulder is usually between 20 and 28 inches, but some can be as tall as 32 inches. And with that size comes a lot of responsibility. Giant Poodles require more exercise than their smaller counterparts, and they also need more food to maintain their energy levels. Giant Poodles come in many different colors, including black, white, cream, brown, red, apricot, silver, blue, and gray. Black is the most popular color among giant Poodle owners. The haircuts are often stylish and sophisticated. While Poodles do not require as much grooming as some other breeds, they do need to be brushed and combed regularly to prevent mats and tangles from forming. There are many different types of Poodle haircuts, from the classic cut to more elaborate styles. Some common Poodle haircuts include the continental clip, lion clip, puppy clip, and show cut. The continental clip is the most popular Poodle haircut. Some popular choices include the Labradoodle, Goldendoodle, and Cockapoo. Each of these mixes has their own unique personality and set of traits, so be sure to do your research before choosing one. This mix combines the best of both worlds — the playful personality of a Poodle with the loyalty and trainability of a Lab. Labradoodles tend to be medium to large in size, and have a thick, curly coat that sheds very little. They are also relatively low-maintenance in terms of grooming; a good brushing once or twice a week is all they need. These dogs are known for their intelligence and trainability, as well as their affinity for people. Poodle Terriers make great family pets and are loyal companions. Although Poodle Terriers are mixed breed dogs, they typically have the best qualities of both Poodles and Terriers. Poodle Terriers are intelligent and easily trained, making them good candidates for obedience and agility training. They also have the high energy level of a Terrier, which means they need plenty of exercise to stay happy and healthy. Poodle Terriers are generally good-natured dogs that enjoy being around people. They make excellent family pets and are typically very loyal to their owners. This adorable little dog has the best of both breeds, and is suitable for families with children. The Poodle Maltese mix is intelligent and easy to train. They are also very affectionate, and make great companion dogs. This cute little dog has the best of both breeds, making it a great family pet. These dogs have the best of both worlds, they are intelligent like Poodles and loyal like Chihuahuas. They make great family pets and are very loving. The Black Shihpoo is also known for being affectionate and easy to train. Color Variations. Pet Keen is reader-supported. Poodles are known for being one of the smartest dog breeds out there. You might also be surprised to learn that they are very athletic animals, despite having a reputation for being a bit prissy. One of the biggest advantages to adopting a Poodle, however, is the fact that these dogs are considered hypoallergenic. This is because they have hair instead of fur, which means they do not shed the way that other dogs do. In this article, we will discuss some of the most popular Poodle mixes and why you should consider adopting one. Poodle Sizing Unlike most dog breeds that grow to be one standard size, Poodles actually come in three different sizes: Standard, Miniature, and Toy. Some people refer to a fourth size, medium, but medium-sized Poodles are not widely recognized and are often considered standard size instead. Mixed breed dogs do not tend to have a uniform size because offspring will favor one parent or the other. Because Poodles come in different sizes, you will notice that the size of Poodle mixed breeds will tend to vary widely. If you are interested in purchasing a Poodle mixed breed puppy, make sure to ask your breeder what size the Poodle parent is so that you know how big you can expect your dog to get. The Top 50 Poodle Mixes 1. Cockapoo The original Doodle, the Cockapoo , is still a popular choice among those looking to adopt a littler dog. The loving loyalty of the Cocker Spaniel and the proud intelligence of the Poodle makes for one heck of a combo. The perfect canine companion, these gorgeous mutts fit nicely into just about every lifestyle. As one of the small Poodle mixes, moderate exercise needs, and lack of mouthiness, they even do well with apartment living. However, you will need to make plenty of time for these people-oriented pups. Maltipoo Highly sociable, clever, and cute as a button, Maltipoos are excellent for those looking for an absolutely allergy-friendly pal. They love kids, other dogs, and perfect strangers, too. That being said, these dogs can be a little on the loud side at times and will benefit from training and plenty of socialization to reduce this at times irritating behavior. Peekapoo For fans of playful pups, the Peekaboo could be the one. With a history almost as long as the beloved Cockapoo, these darling dogs, formed from regal Pekingese, make excellent lapdogs. While they will stick to their favorite person like the velcro pups they definitely are, they can also be energetic and plenty sporty, given the opportunity. One downside is that Peekapoos could end up inheriting that flat face that creates many of the health issues in their parent pups, but careful breeders are working to eliminate that problem. Pomapoo Known for their Spitz-like good looks all done up in miniature, the foxy Pomeranian passes plenty of its cuteness on to its Doodle offspring, along with that feisty, fun working-dog attitude. Great for inexperienced owners and perfect for fans of super small pups, the Pomapoo is generally a laid-back, happy kind of dog. The biggest issue with these pooches is that their companion animal nature makes them the kind of canines that suffer greatly from separation anxiety. They cannot be left alone for long periods. Schnoodle With two parent breeds that come in an assortment of sizes, the Schnoodle undoubtedly belongs on this list. Still, it can be included among the large Doodles, too, if a Standard Poodle were to be bred with a Giant Schnauzer. In terms of personality, Schnoodles are very terrier-like, which means they tend to be much more active than your average lapdog and so do especially well with outdoorsy families. Yorkipoo The Yorkshire Terrier may well give the Poodle a run for its money in the intelligence stakes making the delightful Yorkipoo a very smart dog indeed — which is great for training. Shihpoo Set your Shihpoo up on a velvet cushion, and they will adore you for life. On a serious note, though, these dogs are consummate lapdogs. As such, they love to be doted on and spoiled more than anything else in this world. With their larger-than-life personality and a tendency towards stubbornness, you might not get very far with trying to teach these dogs new tricks or making them into athletic companions. Still, their playful, funny nature will certainly earn them a firm place in your heart nevertheless. Chi-Poo Right at the smallest end of the Doodle spectrum, the Chi-Poo has all the character of the daring Chihuahua but, much to the relief of fans of the breed, far fewer of their associated health issues that come when toy breeds are made just way too toy. Chi-poos are also quite a bit more independent than most other smaller Poodle crosses, which makes them more adaptable to various home situations. They make great first-time pets and work as well in an apartment as they do in a house with a yard. That being said, they can be pretty energetic little so-and-sos, which is something you will need to keep in mind if you do decide to take on one of these lovely pups. Something else you will need to think about is that these dogs also generally require pretty regular grooming sessions. Westiepoo Westiepoos are some of the most social and loving dogs around. They are super fun, super easy to look after, super quick to train, and super to have in your home. The West Highland Terrier — Poodle mix contains the very best of both these excellent pups. They are fun, funny, active, and larger than life in their characters. That Terrier nature of theirs means Westies have a tendency towards both barking and prey-chasing behaviors. Yet, with their superior intelligence, these are things they can be trained out of. Pugapoo Pugs have recently become quite controversial for the issues they have with breathing due to those flat faces of theirs. Happily, though, when combined with the mightily different Poodle, this becomes far less of a problem. Crossing Pugs in this way with longer-nosed hounds is a way of preserving these quirky, cute, and comical dogs. Pugapoos undoubtedly make delightful pups who are loving and loyal as they are gorgeous. With very modest exercise needs, indeed, they are perfect little lapdogs. Doxiedoodle The thing about Daschhunds, one half of the darling Doxiedoodle , is that not only are they the sweetest little sausage-looking pups, but they vary massively in both appearance and temperament. What you will know for sure, though, is that they will be gorgeous, they will be smart, and they will be floofy little bundles of perky hound. Take care, though, as these dogs can grow larger than you might think. Bassetdoodle Otherwise known as Bassetoodles , Bassetdoodles are lesser-known Doodles for sure, but an interesting combination of breeds nonetheless. Like some of the other pups on this list, they are sometimes formed from Standard Poodles, making all-around larger dogs, so make sure that the breeder knows you are looking for a smaller-sized pup. These pooches tend to be calm, friendly, joyful, and yet slightly on the stubborn side too. They also often inherit a bit of a mischievous streak that keeps their owners very much on their toes. Bossi-Poo Boston Terriers are unique-looking dogs with plenty of heart to go alongside their distinctive features and markings. When coupled with the posh Poodle, you get the amusingly-named Bossi-Poo. Cavapoo Spaniels have long been dotted on dogs, and the Cavalier King Charles is no exception. With their cute faces, beautiful coats, and happy little natures, they make friends wherever they go. When the winning personality of the Spaniel is added to the smart, comedic nature of the smaller Poodle, magic truly does happen. Cavapoos really are some of the most popular Doodles around. Jack-a-Poo Another Doodle of many names, the Jack-a-poo , Jackadoodle, or Poo-Jack, is a bright and vivacious mutt who is super loving but requires a mite more care than some of the other Doods on this list. The reason for that is not their coat which tends to be short or slightly fluffy, but, either way, very manageable, but rather the fact they tend to be teeny firecrackers, filled with all the joys of life. While this makes them entertaining sidekicks, it does mean you have to have a fairly energetic nature ayourself to keep up with their antics. Aside from their distinctive features, these dogs are known for their alert, big-dog attitudes, playful personalities, bravery, and extreme love of people. For all these reasons and more, their offspring Papipoos make a unique and excellent pet choice. Poogle Admittedly not the most glamorous name in the world! A Boodle? A Beapoo? Friendly, curious, and hopelessly devoted to their families, Poogles make excellent pets for just about anyone. They get along with everyone, from kids to other pets. However, they do need plenty of socialization to counter that sometimes fairly high prey drive of theirs. With two intelligent parents, and given that these dogs are dedicated people pleasers, Corgipoos do well in the training stakes. The Corgi actually has a fascinating history. Said to be the companions of fairies, legend has it that they were first gifted, during the Viking era, to those who needed protection in their homes. So, as you can imagine, Corgipoos are great guard dogs in addition to being excellent companions. As one of the most popular and well-known of the Doodles, these tend to be the ones that many opt for. Plus, progressive generations of Goldendoodles have enabled them to be bred in more apartment-friendly sizes as small Poodle mixes. Photo used with permission. These dogs really have it all — a sociable nature, even temperament, high trainability, and gorgeous good looks. On the downside, these dogs blow coat and how! Beyond that, their large size means they need a bigger space to hang out in and more intensive exercise than smaller breeds. Enter the Mini or Toy Labradoodle… With their smaller size and tendency toward inheriting the Poodle coat, they are even more perfect than perfect. In that case, the Bernedoodle may well have caught your attention. While the Standard versions of these pups can be pretty giant, given that the Bernese Mountain Dog is classified as a large breed, smaller versions of the Bernie come from combining them with little Poodles. These have all the best of their qualities, often including their stunning tricolored coats, but in a much more manageable package size-wise. All small Poodle mixes make great dogs for the right owners, so the question should be not what is the best one but rather what is the best one for me. The dogs on this list differ significantly in terms of their appearance, temperament, energy levels, and care needs, among other things. What is the calmest small Poodle mix? While every dog is as totally unique in its specific traits as every person is, and so it can be tricky to judge how rambunctious they will be, Doods that combine the more giant breeds with Poodles tend to be among the calmest dogs. Pups bred to be companion animals also tend to be on the lower end of the energy spectrum compared to those originally used as work dogs, such as Terriers and Spaniels. What is the smallest Poodle mix? The smallest Poodle dogs are going to be a combination of two of the most miniature parents. While that will vary depending on individual animals, Chihuahuas and Yorkshire Terriers tend to be high up on any smallest dog lists. So if you are looking for a totally teeny pup, then a Chi-Poo or Yorkipoo might be for you. Which Poodle mix is healthiest? Luckily, for Doodle fans everywhere, due to their more diverse mix of genes creating something known as hybrid vigor , small Poodle mixes tend to be far healthier than most pedigree pups. However, differences in health will come down to how the dogs were bred. Responsible Breeders health screen their animals to ensure that the possibility of genetic conditions being passed down to their offspring is much reduced. Miniature Doods are the ideal option for those looking for a more manageably-sized dog with all the spunk and personality of their often larger parent pups. Hopefully, the information included here has helped you narrow down your choices a little in your quest to find your new best friend. You Might Also Like.

We have developed a positive reinforcement training program that produces an incredible amount of focus in all of our Golden Retriever puppies. Whether we are the right Golden Retriever breeder for you or not, our website has helpful tips on finding and raising your Golden Retriever puppy. Canadian Gr CH C. We are English Golden Retriever breeders who strive to produce only the very best representatives of the breed with regard to health, temperament, and appearance. All of our adult dogs are titled in obedience. Our older adult dogs are titled in conformation as well. After health, our primary focus is producing puppies with good temperaments. Families getting Summer Brook puppies can be assured of a quality well-socialized puppy for several reasons. European Type Golden Retrievers Who are a Part of Our Family First of all, our dogs live as part of our family in our home and on our acre property. Summer Brook puppies are raised in a home environment where someone is home with them most of the time. All of our English Golden Retriever parents have passed tests for hips, elbows, heart, and eyes and have had DNA testing. All of our dogs have passed with hip scores equivalent to either OFA excellent or good. We have no dogs rated as fair in any category. You can get to these pages through the Our Dogs page. See our Health pages for information on genetic health issues in English Golden Retrievers, how breeders test for these issues, and how to interpret and verify the results. We have earned titles at highly competitive levels in all three. Go to the Our Dogs page to see the titles achieved by our individual dogs. Also, see our page on Dog Titles to learn which titles mean something. You can also learn which titles you can earn in a weekend of shows with any mediocre dog. We have done well with our older dogs in the conformation ring earning a wide variety of impressive titles. However, for our younger dogs, we have decided to concentrate our efforts in the obedience ring. We prioritize temperament and health over looks. However, all of our dogs are still beautiful and they come from long lines of conformation champions. English Golden Retriever Puppies Raised With Care Fourthly, our adults are very impressive, but people keep coming back for second and third puppies from us because of the way we raise our English Type Golden Retriever puppies sometimes called English Cream Golden Retriever puppies and where and how our dogs live. See our page on Golden Retriever Puppies to see our future breeding plans along with availability. Focused Puppy Training Program 10 Week Old Puppy Heeling And finally, we have a very popular training program for those wanting a start in training for their puppy. You must see some of the many videos of our past puppies to appreciate what we do with these young puppies. You can find several of these videos on the Puppies page. Also, you can find many more videos on our Youtube channel. Enjoy Your Visit! Secondly, we designed our website to help those who are just starting a search for an English Golden Retriever puppy and want to learn more about the imported lines of Golden Retrievers. There are dozens of pages on our website with a wide variety of information. Footer Subscribe for updates about dog training, puppy care, dog food, and more! Email Address.

Breeders VS. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. For more about the true price of a golden retriever puppy, you can read our full price breakdown here. Location Information for Arkansas Customers Our home office is located in Ohio, but we understand that long-distance travel can be inconvenient. If you prefer to meet a breeder in person, they may be able to offer private visits at their home. Of course! Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. Like adopting a Golden Retriever from a pet store, there is an increased risk when adopting a pup from a rescue center or shelter as well. For example, pups purchased through a shelter or rescue center are far less likely to come with the kinds of health guarantees and reassurances that a breeder can provide. What type of Golden Retrievers are sold in Arkansas? We have some good news! Ready to make your Golden Retriever dreams come true? Take a look at our convenient list of available puppies. How do I know which breeders to trust in Arkansas? Our independent network of trusted breeders have already been pre-screened and verified, so that you can focus on what really matters: choosing your dream puppy. Be the first to know when we have new puppies! All Rights Reserved. We're located in the heart of the Arkansas mountains the Ozarks , and our pups grow up on a ten-acre farm. We are looking for dedicated families to adopt our fur babies and love them like we do. We are not a discount breeder; we take this job of placing each pup very seriously and their future and well-being is of utmost importance. Please contact Dogwood Farms if you're ready for this loving commitment. CALL The Dogwood Difference When you purchase a fur baby from Dogwood Farms, they come complete with a puppy care package which includes: a care package, AKC registration paperwork, immunizations completed by a licensed veterinarian along with immunization paperwork and food each pup is used to eating. We are dedicated to these dogs and our promise is to make sure you have the support and equipment you need to take wonderful care of your new fur baby. We also have in person delivery options for each of our puppies. Rates available to St. In Person Flight options are also available as well to most major airports across the nation for example to California, Florida, New York and even Alaska. If for any reason you need to re-home your fur baby, we are more than willing to help you with that process.

Cosmo, a telepathic Soviet space dog , is the security chief of the space station Knowhere and a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. He was launched into Earth's orbit by the Soviet space program as part of an experiment but was lost in space, arriving in Knowhere and at some point being mutated by cosmic rays. Now a telepath, he eventually came to serve as the station's security chief. Cosmo met a distraught Nova shortly after he witnessed Suspensor turn into a zombie. He tells Nova that he's on Knowhere, a city located within the severed head of a giant Celestial. Beings from all over the galaxy come to Knowhere waiting for the end of the universe. When the Luminals bring something in a large box, the city's population has to go into hiding. The Xandarian Worldmind then informs Rider that he had deciphered the writing on the wall, which is a countdown to a timer. Unable to fight the three aliens, he retreats and discovers a talking dog. Cosmo brought Nova up to speed on when the events started, and the Xandarian Worldmind added any data he had at his disposal. Cosmo was mainly concerned with the safety of the remaining citizens of Knowhere who were safely hidden away in a dimensional envelope he wore on his collar. It was not long before Cosmo and Nova were ambushed by more zombies including the surviving members of Suspensor's former team; the Luminals, and determined that the creature known as Abyss was behind the mayhem. Together, they fought off the attacks, and sealed Abyss inside his prison. Then, alarms were triggered when a murderous Gamora and Drax the Destroyer now under the control of the Phalanx slaughtered many residents in search of Nova. Cosmo arrived too late to stop them before they could follow the same path as Nova through the Continuum Cortex. During one such adventure, Cosmo and the Guardians bounce around the time stream in an attempt to stop The Fault, a tear in the universe, from eliminating all of reality. During this adventure, Cosmo is de-aged into a puppy. But before he died, Starlord left Cosmo with the task of trying to collect the greatest heroes in the universe to form a band of Annihilators, the team Starlord believed was what the Guardians of the Galaxy should have been. Using the Nova Force, the young Nova tried to push the poison out of his body. In the process, he found the foreign body inside of the psychic dog that disrupted his powers and thus, saved Cosmo's life. They assist him in capturing a violence-loving gangster called Yotat. He has shown to be capable of creating defensive shields strong enough to deflect energy blasts, as well as project mind blasts of tremendous force. His exact power levels are unknown, but he has shown to be strong enough to take on a being such as Adam Warlock by himself, and powerful enough to unleash a telekinetic blast able to disable two separate teams of super-humans. In addition to these abilities, Cosmo seems to have a considerably extended lifespan as well — especially for a dog since he has been around since the time of the Soviet Union. Marvel Cinematic Universe[ edit ] Cosmo the Spacedog appears in media set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe , physically portrayed by dog actors Fred and Slate and voiced and motion-captured by Maria Bakalova. Like her original inspiration Laika, this version is female, though her history of being a test animal selected to take part in a Soviet space program experiment who drifted off into space and eventually ended up at Knowhere remains intact. In the live-action film, Guardians of the Galaxy , she is introduced as a prisoner of the Collector who witnesses the eponymous team arrive before being freed following an explosion caused by the Power Stone. T'Challa Became a Star-Lord? After the Collector's slave, Carina, frees his captives, Cosmo joins the Ravagers in traveling to Earth. As of the live-action special, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special , [16] Cosmo has exhibited psionic powers, become a member of the Guardians, and befriended Rocket. She then joins Rocket's new iteration of the Guardians. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. But Cosmo the Spacedog, perfectly voiced by Maria Bakalova, provides some rare and appreciated moments of levity. Who exactly is Cosmo, and what are her Marvel Comics origins? Let's take a tail-wagging trip back to the beginnings of this high-flying superhero canine who totally steals the show! Warning: Possible spoilery territory ahead! Who is Cosmo the Spacedog? Cosmo the Spacedog in the comics. Image credit: Marvel Comics Essentially, Cosmo is a superpowered telepathic remnant of the Soviet space program. This exotic home base was created from a makeshift settlement and mining refinery inside a Celestial's ginormous, hollowed-out head. In "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. Cosmo is a loving nod to Laika , the real-life female canine test subject found on the streets of Moscow during the Cold War who became the first animal in orbit. Laika launched on the Sputnik 2 mission on Nov. It didn't end well for the poor pup: she perished four hours into the experimental mission, apparently due to stress and overheating. Somewhere in its wayward journey, Cosmo was mutated by cosmic radiation which gave him incredible psionic powers. The talking superpowered space dog was picked up by the outer-rim denizens of Knowhere, which became his home. He eventually acquired a job there as head of security. What are Cosmo's powers? Cosmo on display in 's "Guardians of the Galaxy. Telepathy is one of Cosmo's prime skills in the comics that's not specifically shown in the film. These telepathic abilities can take the form of mindreading and thought manipulation of intelligent beings and higher animals, or masking powers that prevent other telepaths from entering her mind. Another extension of Cosmos' psionic weaponry includes the manifestation of realistic illusions, the ability to erase certain memories or cause total amnesia, and emitting devastating psychic blasts. Cosmo appears in extended scenes in 's " Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special ," voiced and motion-captured by Bakalova, begging for delicious treats and rebuilding Knowhere! Director James Gunn defended his gender-swap from the comics as returning to Laika's female roots , and we believe that was a fine creative choice. PS4 Deals. The babies are nursing with the new mom, but one puppy is clearly different from the rest. A male pup with a pistachio green hue can be seen atop the pile, with the owner zooming in to give viewers a closer look. A stock photo shows golden retriever puppies. A TikTok video of nursing golden retrievers reveals that one of them is colored green, a rare occurrence. They may sound made-up, but green golden retrievers are real, although the reason they exist is pretty gross. The green coloring is caused by biliverdin, a chemical that creates bile, according to Rover. When a dog is pregnant, the hormones can cause changes in her bodily functions. This can include her poo, which can turn green because of extra biliverdin. When puppies are born, they usually pass their "meconium"—aka their first poo—within 48 hours. Occasionally, they do this while still inside the womb. If the mom dog has high levels of biliverdin and the developing puppy passes the meconium early, this can lead to high levels of bile in the birth sac. If the puppy has light-colored fur, the pigment of the bile can stain its coat, turning the animal green. This process isn't harmful to the dog, just extremely uncommon. The phenomenon is not unique to golden retrievers and can occur with any breed if the pup has light-toned fur. In Vol. And yes, Cosmo is a good girl, yes she is! Cosmo is a pretty new comic-book character as far as these things go. An homage to Laika and the other Soviet space dogs, Cosmo was sent into space and mutated by cosmic rays before eventually ending up on Knowhere. The Guardians — who, at this point in the comics, were a much more obscure group of characters before the film elevated them to A-listers — had frequent run-ins with Cosmo, who served as the security chief of Knowhere, the space station and floating Celestial head where the Guardians based their operations. She makes another, even smaller appearance in one of Vol. The only important implications for Vol. She does come back in the climax, when her psychic powers play an important role, however, and the first post-credit scene reveals that Cosmo will have plenty of future adventures as a core member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Not a bad outcome for Cosmo, especially considering that all of the real Soviet space dogs died horribly in space. Laika actually died well before she was expected to, just hours after takeoff, because she overheated due to a malfunction with the rocket. This is a bummer. More on The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.

Before you start training your Boxer puppy—or, even better, before you get the puppy—read up on what kind of training is ideal for your breed. Check online, local libraries and local organizations. You can also ask your vet for advice. Remember, the more knowledgeable you are, the better you know how to react under different circumstances. Make sure as well that you have what you need to effectively train your dog. If you're planning to clicker train, get a clicker. If you're planning to crate train, get the right-sized crate. Also be sure to pick up an appropriate collar and leash for general training. A leash should be no more than five to six feet in length. The best leashes for training are leather. Always check your equipment to make sure it is in good order and not liable to snap or break. Training works best when you dedicate a couple of short sessions 10 to 15 minutes twice a day to it. Try to train at times when the dog is not tired, but also not bursting with pent-up energy. Karen Pryor. Publisher: Ringpress Books Consider expending your Boxer's energy before training sessions by allowing him 20 to 30 minutes of high-intensity physical activity. This will enable him to better focus on training. Try to train the dog in a place where there are few distractions, so that your Boxer puppy can focus his attention on you. This means avoiding places with other animals or people. Always begin training in your home or yard and build up to environments with more distractions e. Your commands need to be simple, short, clear and consistent. Don't lecture your dog; they're not human so they don't process language in the same way. Phrases like "I've told you not to do that" or "Please stop chewing on the table" will not work as they are too complicated. John Bradshaw. Publisher: Penguin Experts believe that a given dog registers the first part of the word as the most important, so longer commands such as "Sit Fido if you want a treat" are liable to confuse him. Just say the word "Sit" instead. In general, shouting at any dog is ineffective. This is especially true for Boxers who are hyper breed by nature. Use a firm but pleasant and upbeat voice when instructing your dog; don't yell or lose control. Dogs are very intuitive and will be able to sense your frustration and may react in kind. The tone of voice matters, especially since, again, dogs don't process language in the same way that humans do. So how you say something may mean as much if not more than what you say. Publisher: Penguin Boxers are playful by nature, and a light, breezy tone will not suffice; he will think you are just playing with him if you are not firm enough. Try using hand gestures at the same time as you issue verbal commands. For example, raise your hand at the same time as saying "Sit". Dog behaviorists believe that dogs look for multiple clues as to what we want them to do, which includes the command word, tone of voice, and body language. Admonishing a Boxer puppy too long after the incident is ineffective. If you need to admonish or correct your dog, it needs to be done during or within a few seconds of the act. Dogs will have forgotten the event within seconds of its occurrence, so it's key to address the behavior immediately in order to facilitate the retraining process. Boxers are notoriously stubborn and steadfast, so you may have to correct your puppy numerous times. Always be consistent in your commands and desires of the dog. This helps your dog to understand what is expected. Don't forget to enforce training when you are out and about, so that your dog doesn't just thinking that "Sit" and "Stay" are things he has to do in the yard or house. By enforcing commands in public places it helps your Boxers to understand he must obey under all circumstances. Leave no room for doubt about what is acceptable behavior for your Boxer puppy. If he is not allowed on the furniture, be consistent. Boxers won't understand the concept of "sometimes"; they are either permitted to lie on the couch or they are not. If you live with other people, make sure that everyone in the house is on board with the training program. Using different words for the same action will confuse the dog, disrupt the training already done, and ultimately delay progress. For instance, keep an eye out for diarrhea if you change your pup's food. If your bulldog develops diarrhea then stop all food for 12 hours. If it persists for more than 24 hours, contact your veterinarian immediately to prevent dehydration. Puppies can dehydrate very rapidly so you need to take it seriously when diarrhea occurs. Dogs can pick up some unwanted guests: ticks, fleas, mites, lice, and intestinal worms. Your dog can be the perfect host for these pests if regular treatment for these nasty pests is not given. Your veterinarian is the best source of knowledge for the local bugs that bug the local dog population and how to prevent these pests. Heartworm is a widespread disease present spread by mosquitoes throughout most of the United States. There is a treatment for heartworm, but it is expensive and takes a toll physically on the dog and can take months to combat. This is especially important for dogs that spend a lot of time outside, that live on farms, or that hunt, as they are at increased risk of contracting this tick-borne disease. Puppies will generally have a first veterinary visit at the age of six weeks by the person who has the mother dog. The veterinarian will examine the puppies to make sure there are no hernias, heart, lung, or eye or ear problems in any of the pups. At 9 weeks, and then again at 12 weeks, the de-wormer and distemper vaccines will be repeated. Then these can be given once a year or on a schedule determined by you and your veterinarian. Lowell Ackerman. This vaccination is required by many communities. There can sometimes be severe penalties if your dog is not rabies vaccinated especially if the dog bites a person or another pet. As your dog ages, more frequent examinations will need to be given. Twice yearly examination will catch medical issues before they become big problems. Older dogs frequently suffer from arthritis and heart disease just like elderly humans. The inner ear part of the ear is normally white or darker colored, usually corresponding to the color of the dog's coat, so look for discoloring. The puppy's ears should also not smell nor have any discharge in the ear or on the flap. The ear should be free of debris, dirt, or parasites, like ticks or mites. Any of the following are abnormal: [9] X Trustworthy Source American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Leading organization dedicated to the prevention of animal cruelty Go to source Scratching or pawing the ear. Shaking the head excessively. If in doubt, or if you suspect an ear infection, have your veterinarian look in the ear using an otoscope to examine the eardrum. Never stick a q-tip or similar type of product into the ear canal. You will not be able to see the entire ear canal and should not try to put anything down there. Never use human toothpaste on a dog; only use dental toothpaste made for dogs. The fluoride in human toothpaste is poisonous to dogs and can cause serious health problems. Place a little puppy toothpaste on your fingertip and let your puppy lick it off. The next day put it on your finger and rub it along the outer gums. Then try to put a little on a dog toothbrush, let the puppy lick it then run the toothbrush along the outer edges of the teeth and gums. Only the outer part against the cheeks needs to be brushed. Even with regular tooth brushing, dogs may need dental cleanings once in a while. Plaque and bacteria can build up under the gum line causing problems there or in the roots of the teeth. Just like with their human owners, regular mouth examinations by their doggy dentist should be done once a year. In addition to the typical concerns like his nails and his coat, bulldogs have squishy, wrinkly faces that need daily attention. Giving them a good wipe keeps your pooch happy, healthy and good-smelling. Brushing Don't be fooled by the short-haired coat. Your bulldog needs to be brushed every single day to facilitate shedding and prevent matted, lumpy fur. Your best bet is to take him outside for a brushing session, as he can lose a surprising amount of hair in a short time. Be gentle when brushing him, as bulldogs have sensitive skin. For that same reason, use a soft-bristled brush instead of a hard metal one. Bathing Your bulldog doesn't need a bath every day. In fact, he shouldn't have one every day, as bathing your dog too often can strip his hair and skin of essential oils. Instead, bathe your dog on an "as-needed" basis, such as when he is visibly dirty or starts to smell. Always use a shampoo formulated for dogs, as these are different from human shampoos. You may need to pay special attention to his rear end. Because of his stocky build, he can't always reach his backside to clean up after eliminating. If he has any lingering mess, wipe it off with a damp towel. Face and Ears Adorable as those face wrinkles are, your bulldog's face can hide a dirty secret—literally. Bacteria and grime builds up between those big, floppy folds, so you have to clean them out every day to prevent infection and odor. Your pet store sells medicated pads that you can use to gently wipe out the facial folds, but you can also use a cotton ball dipped in baby oil. The skin between the folds is even more sensitive than the rest of your dog, so he may resist a little bit. Making this part of your daily routine will help him get used to it, and both of you will be happier for it. Nails and Teeth If doggy breath gets you down, incorporate daily dental hygiene into his routine. Using toothpaste and a toothbrush designed for dogs, give his teeth a cursory scrub every day. Keep an eye on his nails, too. While no dog needs his nails trimmed every single day, they do need periodic attention. If you don't feel confident clipping them yourself, a professional groomer will take care of it. When your pooch starts to chew his nails, it's time for a trim. More Articles. As early as the 13th century, the dogs were bred for the now-illegal sport of bull-baiting. The English Bulldog is a short-haired, medium-sized dog 40 to 50 pounds with a low, sturdy stance, a large, short-faced head with an underbite, wide shoulders, and short tail. They have drooping lips with many loose skin wrinkles and folds throughout their face and neck. Caring for an English Bulldog The English Bulldog typically displays a friendly, yet stubborn, temperament and can make a great family dog. As a brachycephalic, or short-nosed, breed, English Bulldogs are not well-adapted to hot climates. Owners will need to be cautious if they live in warmer climates or during spring and summer seasons. Their wrinkly skin will also require frequent maintenance to prevent skin infections. The unique physical traits of the English Bulldog make it predisposed to an array of medical concerns. The short face, sensitivity to temperature extremes, excessive skin folds, and elevated hip position above the shoulder line can lead to medical issues. Some of these issues may require lifelong treatment or surgical correction, so this dog breed can become very expensive. Pet insurance is a great option for any pet parent considering adding an English Bulldog to their family. English Bulldog Health Issues English Bulldogs have some unique features that have made them into the popular and identifiable breed they are today, but many of those characteristics come with potential health risks. The combination of these abnormalities leads to difficulty breathing in air and getting enough oxygen. The short-faced, brachycephalic nature to the English Bulldog means they already have, or have a high potential to develop, some or all of the anatomical issues associated with BOAS. The brachycephalic nature of the English Bulldog also makes them sensitive to temperature extremes, and especially prone to overheating. The characteristic snorting and snoring noises from the English Bulldog are also caused by their brachycephalic face. Skin Fold Pyoderma and Allergies All of the excessive skin wrinkles throughout the face and neck can cause skin issues for the English Bulldog. Any time an English Bulldog gets wet, their wrinkles can trap moisture if they are not properly dried. This keeps bacteria and yeast from building up and prevents moisture from becoming trapped and turning into a breeding ground. Depending on the allergy, your dog may require a special diet, medication, or medicated wipes to help manage and alleviate symptoms. Hip Dysplasia The English Bulldog is very prone to developing hip dysplasia , a condition in which the hip joint does not function properly and can cause pain. This abnormal position creates an unstable hip joint, which can lead to arthritis and possible bone fractures over time. There is testing available—PennHIP screening—to detect the likelihood that a dog will develop hip dysplasia in their lifetime. If your dog is diagnosed with hip dysplasia, there are a few options for treatment and long-term management including medications , joint supplements , and surgical intervention. Weight management will also be important, because any excess weight will exacerbate the issue and increase discomfort for the dog. Entropion The English Bulldog can develop entropion , which is the inward rolling-in of the eyelids usually the lower eyelids. This condition causes the outer hair of the eyelid to make contact with the surface of the eyeball cornea. Entropion can irritate the eyeball and soft tissues around the eyeball, causing redness, pain, swelling, and discharge. While eye products like artificial tears and pain medication can help these symptoms, surgical intervention to correct the entropion may be necessary for permanent relief. Obesity The English Bulldog is prone to obesity , and the extra weight can exacerbate other health concerns. To help prevent unnecessary weight gain, pet parents need to be diligent about the type and amount of food given daily. Since English Bulldogs are sensitive to extreme temperatures and prone to breathing difficulties, weight management through food is even more important because exercise can be difficult. There are some dog foods on the market that are specifically formulated for the English Bulldog. These breed-specific diets offer a special dry kibble shape for easier eating and certain ingredients to promote gastrointestinal, joint, and skin health. The English Bulldog can be very food-motivated, so overfeeding or offering excessive amounts of treats during the day should be avoided. There are also puzzle toys, which require your dog to think and interact with the feeder to get to their kibble. How Much to Feed an English Bulldog In general, the amount of dog food offered should be based on the ideal weight of the adult English Bulldog, which is typically between 40 to 50 pounds. Your veterinarian can work with you to find the appropriate amount of food per day for your English Bulldog. For English Bulldog puppies, the amount of puppy food offered is based on their current puppy weight. Nutritional Tips for the English Bulldog Multiple supplements can help maintain the overall health of the English Bulldog. Omega-3 fatty acids, fish oil, and glucosamine supplements can improve and maintain healthy skin and joints. Probiotic supplements promote healthy gastrointestinal bacteria, which can alleviate flatulence and promote good digestion. Talk with your veterinarian to learn which supplements make the most sense for your English Bulldog. Behavior and Training Tips for the English Bulldog English Bulldog Personality and Temperament The English Bulldog is typically friendly, loyal but stubborn, good with children and other pets, and likes to make its presence known without being aggressive. The stubborn nature can often be observed as laziness. Despite the stubborn temperament, the English Bulldog does enjoy and benefit from daily moderate exercise. English Bulldog Behavior Although the English Bulldog is quite docile, they can be curious in new situations and act protective of their family. The English Bulldog is not shy to make an entrance and may muscle their way to their pet parent and often to other people to get affection. English Bulldog Training As with most dogs, the English Bulldog responds best to training and socialization early in their puppy life. Because the English Bulldog is devoted to their pet parent, they can respond well to training, especially with a toy or food reward. Basic training commands sit, stay, leave it, etc. Their coats can come in a wide range of colors and combinations: red, white, fawn, fallow, piebald, or brindle, to name just a few. Their wrinkly skin will mean that their grooming needs are more frequent and time-consuming than for other dogs. To help keep their skin healthy, pet parents need to be diligent and thorough about their skin and coat care. A soft, dry cloth can be used to gently wipe out debris and dry the skin wrinkles. Coat Care The hair should be brushed about twice a week. Be sure that skin wrinkles are clear of debris and gently dried with a soft cloth after bathing or splashing in water to prevent skin infection. Eye Care Since the English Bulldog can be prone to eye issues or allergies that cause eye discharge, you may need to clean around their eyes routinely. This can be done using pet-safe wipes—but again, make sure that you always fully dry the skin after cleaning. Ear Care After every bath or splashing in water, the English Bulldog should have their ears cleaned with a dog-specific ear cleaner. Considerations for Pet Parents Some of the major considerations for pet parents of an English Bulldog include brachycephalic syndrome, sensitivity to extreme temperatures, skin fold pyoderma, allergies, hip dysplasia, and entropion. These considerations are important because they can greatly affect the overall lifestyle of the English Bulldog. They may require lifelong medical care and may ultimately need surgical intervention or a referral to a specialist veterinarian to fully alleviate these medical issues. Pet parents considering the English Bulldog breed should consider getting pet insurance to help handle the medical costs of the breed. Most English Bulldogs make excellent family companions, especially with children and other pets. However, some English Bulldogs, especially ones that have had difficult developmental years, may display fearful or aggressive behavior that is not characteristic of the breed. Are English Bulldogs smart dogs? What are the drawbacks of an English Bulldog? By far, one of the biggest drawbacks of making an English Bulldog part of the family is coping with their medical issues. A great deal of emotional and financial stress can be mitigated by investing in pet insurance for the English Bulldog right after adoption. How much does an English Bulldog cost? When purchased through a breeder, English Bulldog puppies can cost as much as several thousand dollars. However, there are English Bulldog rescue organizations that have young to older adults and sometimes puppies available for adoption at lower costs. Likewise, some animal shelters may have English Bulldog puppies and adults available for adoption. Is an English Bulldog an aggressive breed? While historically the English Bulldog was bred for the sport of bull-baiting and displayed quite an aggressive behavior, this characteristic has largely been bred out of the breed over time. In general, the English Bulldog breed of today is known for being friendly and docile. We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. However, while you can bathe your child whenever they get dirty, you will need to be more careful with your puppy. Bathtime should be an enjoyable experience for both you and your puppy, so you need to get it right from the start. Puppies have trouble self-regulating their body temperature and can easily get chilled if bathed at a very young age. Besides being easily chilled, young puppies can also accidentally get water in their lungs during the first bath. Not only will this traumatize the puppy and make them afraid of bath-times, but it can be lethal. Before your pup is eight weeks old, you can wipe them down with a warm and damp cloth for a quick clean. Moisten the cloth only with warm water and use it to gently rub your puppy in the direction their hair grows. Depending on how dirty your puppy is, you may need to wipe them down several times to get all the dirt and grime out of their coat. Wiping your puppy with a cloth will keep dirt and bad doggy odor at bay, at least until the puppy is old enough for a proper bath. Also, depending on how damp the cloth is, you may want to dry your puppy after each quick clean. The most important thing is to keep your puppy safe during the entire bathing process. Some puppies naturally love water and will enjoy being soaked and lathered. Others, however, may get anxious from the start and do everything in their power to escape. The way your puppy is going to react depends a lot on their personality, but it also comes down to their age. Generally, the younger the puppy is introduced to bathing, the quicker it will learn to enjoy the routine. Older puppies, however, are often more challenging to bathe than younger puppies and need a lot of reassurance and praise to calm them down. Brush Your Puppy First Before you attempt to give your puppy a bath, you will have to brush them first. Brushing will remove excess dirt, grime, and any loose hair. Furthermore, you will be able to take out any tangles or knots that can become matted once wet. Be gentle and brush your puppy in the same direction their hair grows. Make sure that your puppy is having an enjoyable grooming experience. In the end, the sooner you start brushing your puppy, the faster they will get accustomed to a regular grooming routine. Gather Your Supplies Gather everything you will need to bathe your puppy before you get them wet. Having all the supplies close at hand will make the entire bathing process much easier for both you and your puppy. Just imagine how stressful it would be if you had to run out of the bathroom in the middle of the bath because you forgot the shampoo. When it comes to supplies, you will need a puppy shampoo and conditioner, lots of treats, cotton balls, a rubber mat, and several towels. You should also consider wearing some old clothes, since you will most likely get wet and in need of a bath yourself later on. Depending on what you have available, you can bathe your puppy in a bathtub or in a sink. Filling the bucket beforehand can help a lot if your pup is afraid of the sound of running water. When everything is settled and you have the bathroom door firmly closed, gently pick up and place your puppy in the tub. Furthermore, make sure that your puppy is standing on a rubber mat that will ensure sure good footing and prevent slipping accidents. Start bathing your puppy with warm water using the faucet on a low setting or a pitcher. Please note, you should always bathe your puppy with lukewarm water! Keep the faucet or sprayer on a low setting the entire time and place it close to the coat to soak the entire fur evenly. Use a shampoo and conditioner that is specially made for puppies. Therefore, rinse your puppy thoroughly and then rinse a little bit longer. Use one hand to hold the sprayer and the other to gently scrub your pup until all the suds are out of their coat. Even if you think that you rinsed thoroughly enough, continue rinsing some more until the water is completely suds-free. Rinsing is one of the most important parts of the entire bathing process and you have to do it right. But be warned: puppies like to shake dry, so be prepared for water droplets flying everywhere! To avoid water stains on your walls, throw a towel over your puppy and start toweling off the excess water. Continue toweling until most of the water is out of their coat and then give them a gentle blow-dry. Bear in mind, though, that some puppies are afraid of blow dryers, so you may need to use treats and praise to get your puppy to tolerate one. How Often To Bathe A Puppy After bathing your puppy for the first time, you can continue to bathe them whenever they get smelly and dirty. Frequent baths can strip the skin of its protective layer, resulting in dry skin and a dull-looking coat. If your puppy has dry and sensitive skin, you should wait longer between baths and only use a natural puppy shampoo with moisturizing properties. On the other hand, if your puppy has skin infections or parasites you may need to bathe them more often with a medicated dog shampoo. Depending on the type of skin condition, you will probably have to bathe your puppy once a week at least, for treatment to be effective. If your puppy has a skin condition like dermatitis, you should consult your veterinarian and follow their advice. And if you have any concerns about how often and when can you give a puppy a bath, talk with your veterinarian or a professional dog groomer. They will be able to tell you how often to bathe a puppy based on their coat type, age, and potential skin problems. You can bathe your puppy for the first time when they are at least eight weeks old. If your puppy is very dirty but too young for a proper bath, you can use a damp cloth to wipe their coat for a quick clean. You can safely bathe an eight-week-old puppy, and this is the right time to get your pup familiar with bathing. If your puppy really needs a bath, be gentle and make bath-time enjoyable for both you and your puppy. Generally speaking, puppies older than two months should be bathed once a month. However, how often you should bathe your puppy depends on a lot of factors, such as their coat type, lifestyle, age, and any skin problems. On the other hand, puppies that spend a lot of time outside are bound to get dirty faster and will have to be bathed often to stay clean and fresh-smelling. You should only bathe your pup with a pH-balanced puppy shampoo. Never use human shampoo, dish soap, or baby shampoo to wash your puppy. Shampoo and conditioner can be used on puppies that have medium or long coat and will make brushing much easier. Use a towel to quickly towel dry your puppy immediately after a bath. You may need to use more than one towel, especially if your pup has a medium or long double coat. Using a towel, gently squeeze and rub their fur to get as much water out of it as possible. If your puppy is afraid of blow dryers, you can wrap them in a clean towel and leave them to dry. Another option is to leave your puppy to air dry at room temperature after toweling but only do this during warmer months to avoid chills and colds. Your pup may enjoy getting wet, or they may try to escape as fast as their legs can carry them. Whatever happens, stay positive, give your puppy lots of praise and treats, and practice until you both find bath-time enjoyable. Helps ease anxiety in their new home. We love using Bully Sticks to help divert these unwanted behaviors. Check out more of our favorites on our New Puppy Checklist. As an English bulldog owner, one of the biggest concerns you might have is how often to bathe your furry friend. After all, they are notorious for their wrinkles, drool, and all-around messiness. Generally, you should aim to bathe your bulldog once every month or so. Over-bathing can strip their coat of its natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation. Stick to a monthly bathing regimen unless your vet advises otherwise. Start by giving them a thorough brush to remove any loose fur or debris. Next, use lukewarm water and a gentle dog shampoo to lather up their coat. Be sure to rinse thoroughly and dry them off with a towel. Bulldogs are notorious for their adorable wrinkly faces, but those wrinkles can also trap dirt and moisture. You can also use a specialized bulldog face wash to keep their wrinkles clean and fresh. Puppies are delicate creatures, and bathing them too early can actually harm their skin. Always use a gentle puppy shampoo, and be sure to keep the water warm and comfortable. Gather all the necessary supplies before starting the bath. This includes dog shampoo, towels, a non-slip mat, a brush, and a cup or sprayer for rinsing. The water level should be about inches high. Place the non-slip mat at the bottom of the tub or sink to prevent the puppy from slipping. Gently place the puppy into the water, starting from the back end and working your way up to the head. Use a cup or sprayer to rinse the puppy thoroughly, making sure to remove all the soap suds. Gently lift the puppy out of the water and wrap them in a towel to remove excess water. Dry the puppy with a clean towel, making sure to pat them dry instead of rubbing. Give the puppy plenty of praise and treats for being a good boy or girl during their bath. What Shampoo is Best for English Bulldogs? Bulldogs have sensitive skin, and using a harsh shampoo can cause dryness and itching. Look for a shampoo with natural ingredients like oatmeal or aloe vera to soothe their skin and keep their coat healthy. Sorry, no way Jose. Regular brushing and wiping down with a damp cloth can help remove dirt and debris from their coat, but they will not clean your dog properly. You can also use dry shampoo or grooming wipes in between baths to keep them smelling great. But ultimately, baths are the best way to keep your bulldog clean and fresh. To make bath time more enjoyable for your pooch, try using treats or toys as a distraction, or consider a professional grooming service. Bulldogs require regular grooming to keep their coats healthy and shiny. But how much grooming do they really need? If you start the appropriate brushing, bathing, trimming and cleaning methods early, it will result in an older dog that is accustomed to the activities and the lessened likelihood of high drama in the future. Most veterinarians advise against bathing a puppy until he is six-to-eight weeks old due to the difficulties pups have regulating body temperature. Be prepared for squirming, wriggling and attempts to flee during the first few times because bathing a puppy can be an adventure! A sink or a plastic tub may work for the first few puppy baths for most breeds but it might be wise to use a bathtub right from the start to get him acclimated to the location in the future. Clean his inner ears with gauze or a soft washcloth soaked in warm water, mineral oil or witch hazel before starting the actual bath, remaining cautious not to insert anything into the ear canal. Place a non-slip, rubber mat on the bottom of the tub to prevent slipping and fill to his knee level with lukewarm water. Use a faucet-attached sprayer or an unbreakable cup or ladle to thoroughly wet his coat, taking caution to avoid getting water in the eyes, ears or mouth. Once the coat is wet, lather in shampoo, handling the head last. Immediately rinse with lukewarm water, beginning with the head. Leaving shampoo on too long can lead to dry skin and potential irritation, while causing scratch-requiring itching and discomfort that will last long after the bath is over. Doing a double-rinse is always advisable. Start with towels and, if he allows, use a blow dryer on the lowest heat setting preferably entirely cool air. If the cotton balls in the ears are wet, take them out and dry the inner ears with fresh cotton balls or a dry cloth. The first couple of attempts at bathing a puppy are likely to be adventure —— so, have some patience because your work will pay off with more serene dog bathing sessions as he grows into an adult dog.

boxer puppies kansas - Joined: Sat Jul 07, pm Location: Cumbria Re: greetings from sunny Aberdeen Post by shellsie » Wed Aug 29, am Ok just want to let u know that only certain types of Labradoodles are non-shedding so u need to be careful when u are looking. Also, even if u go for a non-shedding Labradoodle then people can be allergic to the saliva or urine. With this in mind I'd advise u to pick a reputable breeder, preferably one who is a member of the UKLC, who will tell u the facts about allergies and which types shed etc. I'm not sure about breeders in Scotland but we had to travel pretty far to get our two labradoodles. I'm sure many on here can give u better advice than me and I'm not trying to put u off just lots of people get Labradoodles thinking they are allergy friendly and non shedding and then find they are not. Wouldn't want this to happen to u so just basically advising u to do your homework first, as it would be awful if u got a puppy that then shed alot and u had to go through the trauma of rehoming. Also very important to make sure the parents of the puppy have been health tested, and of course the puppy should have had all relevant health checks too. Good luck with your search, I'm sure u'll get plenty of sound advice off the people on here who know alot more about Labradoodles than I do.
