Our Story My husband and I have been married 30 years and have two sons. Over a dozen years ago, we fell in love with Doodles when our youngest son raised a Doodle puppy to be a future service dog as part of his Eagle Scout Project. In the blink of an eye, we welcomed Luke, a shaggy doodle puppy into our home and hearts and my son spent a year taking this sweet boy with us everywhere. This was our introduction to Doodles and we were smitten - low shedding, low allergen, affectionate and Muppet cute. We set about learning all we could about responsible breeding practices, canine health and longevity, canine genetics, inheritable diseases and their prevention and very importantly the best methods of puppy raising to shape future temperament. During our deep dive into all things Doodle, we considered many breeds, including Goldendoodles and Labradoodles. We wanted a medium size since not all veterans had large homes and yards. We prioritized health, trainability, intelligence and friendliness. And of course we needed to ensure we had the low allergen, low shedding qualities that would make them easy to live with and take into restaurants and retail establishments. We loved the Goldendoodle puppy we raised, but his energy level was high and Goldens and Labs are know for maturing slowly, essentially staying a puppy until they are a year or two years old. It was essential to us to include a working breed that comes into their brains quickly as this would be an important trait for a service dog. And knowing what traits were important for a service dog, meant they would then also be excellent for therapy work and as family companions. So we began our program with Australian Mountain Doodles at the time, we called them Aussie Bernedoodles , as well as Bernedoodles and Aussiedoodles. To my knowledge, we were the first to do the Aussie Bernedoodle cross which combines the good natured, calm and strong attributes of the Bernese Mountain Dog, the smart, work-oriented Australian Shepherd and of course the versatile, intelligent, low shedding, low allergen Poodle. We consider ourselves fortunate to have been raising these amazing Doodles in Southern California since .In , we made the decision with extended family to re-locate my parents and ourselves in order to be more present in their later years. So we rounded up the Doodles and my coffee pot okay there was a lot more involved but those were essential and made the transition to the Oregon Coast where we continue to raise healthy, affectionate, family-friendly, hypo-allergenic Bernedoodles and Australian Mountain Doodles. This is a family affair and we are devoted to our Doodles full time. This means no vacations, no out of town weddings, no being away for more than a few hours and every day begins and ends with their needs being put first. It takes a huge commitment and a lot of passion to devote ourselves so entirely to placing healthy, happy puppies with new families. Better breeding goes hand in hand with responsible rescue. The critical window to set puppies up for good adult behavior is when they are weeks of age with being the most critical. Our puppies are raised in a loving environment and from healthy, happy parents who were genetically tested to be free of common issues so they can live long, happy lives with their people. We take great care, raising each puppy to ensure they are well-rounded and prepared for their new life with you. When making decisions about our breeding programs, we prioritize the physical and emotional health, and well-being of our breeding dogs above all else. Healthy, happy moms make for healthy, happy puppies. We ensure the moms feel loved and cared for so that they in turn are excellent tenders of their puppies. The puppies are held everyday and weight checks are done regularly to ensure they are gaining weight and thriving. Every puppy in addition to mom is loved on and nurtured every day. We follow and utilize three methods of early neurological stimulation and handling for our puppies, timed to coincide with specific periods in the puppies life where they are most receptive to it. This method utilizes tactile and thermal stimulation and 3 positioning exercises, done once daily when the puppies are days old. When puppies receive consistent, non-traumatic handling, they become more outgoing and friendly and show less inclination to be fearful when they are older. This encourages the puppies development into an emotionally balanced mature dog and ultimately a better family companion for you. Puppy Culture is a comprehensive guide as to what can be done with and for puppies at each point in their development to ensure the best possible outcome for the puppy. It's a "how to" on raising confident, happy puppies, using early neurological stimulation, enrichment and resiliency exercises to encourage the best out of each puppy at each stage of its development. Puppy Culture utilizes clicker training however we believe the doodle breeds we are raising are easily motivated with treat training and rely on that method instead. So many breeders underestimate the role a good gut biome plays in the health of their breeding dogs. What mom is eating while pregnant and lactating, passes to the puppies and affects their health as well. This is huge! The fact that breeders have the ability to influence the health of their puppies into adulthood for their future families is a game changer. We feed a nutrient-dense, biologically appropriate food to our dams and sires. We include prebiotics, probiotics, digestive enzymes, goats milk, fresh foods and veggies and no inflammatory grains or excess carbohydrates. We raise chickens and ducks using fermented organic feed, sprouted barley and fresh scraps from our garden so our canines have the very best natural eggs for their meals. We rotate proteins and products, including raw, lightly cooked, freeze-dried, air-dried and a small amount of Farmina kibble in different varieties. All of this is done to support their gut, skin and coat health. We believe in the most natural approach possible. We use no pesticides around our home, We exercise great caution to only use necessary deworming protocols and minimize toxic chemicals on and around our dogs. These adorable pups come in handy sizes, and dole out ample amounts of love. They are English not French. The French bulldog has originated from England where they were first bred. The French Bulldog soon gained popularity among the elites and middle class of France, with many Parisians owning one as a lapdog. Eventually, the Americans bred them and gave them the now famous bat ear, a distinctive feature of Frenchies. This makes the French bulldog an international breed. Frenchies are emotional. Because they were bred as lovable lap dogs, Frenchies tend to emotional to a fault. Emotional in the sense they can become moody if you scold them for doing something wrong. Have you ever seen a dog make a face before? They smile, pout and even Frenchie talk to let you know how they feel. If you have a French bulldog, the best you can do is provide loads of positive encouragement as possible while reducing punishment and negative feedback. They are vocal. From howls, growls, gargles, yips to yawns, these lovely animals are talkative and will always have something to contribute to family discussions. So when you are feeling lonely or need a companion to sing along with you, these garrulous pups will support you with their unique doggy sounds which if often referred to as the Frenchie talk. They will sink in water. While many dog breeds love frolicking in water, the Frenchie is an exception because it is a brachycephalic dog. Brachy dog breeds have a big head and a short skull with tight nostrils that make respiration difficult, especially in water. Always keep them cool on a hot day to avoid obstruction of breathing. French Bulldogs do not do well in flights. Because of their respiratory system, which causes a condition called BOAS, brachy dogs such as the French bulldog have difficulty breathing at heights. When you are going on a trip that requires flights, consider handing your Frenchie to your dog-loving neighbor or hire a dog sitter to keep him happy while you are away. Bringing you toys If you find that your Frenchie keeps bringing you toys, this is another way that they are showing you love and affection. This is their way of acknowledging you as the pack leader, and by offering you some of their most loved toys, they are not only showing you that they trust you to take care of their most precious possessions, but this is also an indicator that they are trying to share these toys with you, hoping that you will like them just as much as they do. Think of this like their little gift to you and just one of the special ways a French Bulldog will show you love. However, a recent study indicates that dogs do the same thing. Any moment know that huge yawn is going to start catching! A study from demonstrates that dogs are more likely to engage in this contagious yawning with their owners, but will not do so with strangers source: Scientific American. Puppy dog eyes Although direct and prolonged eye contact between dogs is a sign of aggression, this is not the case when your dog is making eye contact with you. Studies have shown that when you make this type of eye contact with your pet dog, that the love chemical oxytocin is released not only in your brain, but in the brain of your dog as well source: National Geographic. Frenchies can show their love with those adorable puppy dog eyes staring up at you. For some context, this is the same chemical that is released during parent-child bonding, so if your Frenchie is making eye contact, this is their way of telling you just how much they love you. Raised eyebrows This is a more subtle indicator, but a recent study from Japan has shown that when owners walk into the same room as their dog, that the dog will raise their eyebrows source: Daily Mail. However, they will not do this if a stranger walks in. Jumping up Although a lot of owners will train this behavior out of their dogs, jumping up is nonetheless another way that your Frenchie will show affection. A small word of warning though. Yes, jumping up can be an adorable habit when your Frenchie is a puppy. But as the dog gets older it could become problematic. Leaning into you and cuddling There are a number of reasons why a dog might lean on you, and all of them indicate trust and affection. You bet they are! They love nothing more than getting up close and personal with you! Additionally, your Frenchie may lean on you because they want you to do something for them, or they may just be leaning on you because they want to be close to you. Nudging you This one is a little less common but can be another sweet way that your Frenchie is trying to communicate their affection and showing how much they love you. If you find your Frenchie giving you a soft nudge with their nose after you come home from work, this is their way of greeting you home. You may also find them nudging you if they want you to give them attention, or to do something for them. Rolling over Another way that your Frenchie may show you affection and love is by rolling over for a good belly rub. This will typically happen when you are already showing them affection, but either way this playful display of submission is a huge compliment as it means they view you as someone safe, and they trust you enough to expose their most vulnerable parts. Please tickle my belly! With our own Frenchie Claude he will often roll on his back in the presence of other dogs. When he does this I see it as a sign of him being submissive so the other dog knows that he is safe and ready to play with. Sleeping close to you Some owners prefer to train their dogs to sleep on the floor or even in another room, but if your Frenchie is trying to join you on the bed or prefers sleeping in your room, this is another massive indicator that they love you. You know a French Bulldog loves you when they want to get up close and personal and fall asleep with you. As an extension of this, being able to nod off easily around you and going out of their way to sleep near you means they not only trust you and view you as someone safe, but it also shows that they view you as family. Sighing Although French Bulldogs do not bark much and make perfect pets for people who live in apartment complexes because of how quiet they are, Frenchies are nonetheless notoriously vocal, and will have a wide assortment of unique sounds that will give you some indication of how they feel. One sound that shows that your Frenchie is happy to be around you is a contented sign or low moan, accompanied by half closed eyes and them settling into a more comfortable position. This is another big sign that your Frenchie loves you, and views you as someone trustworthy and safe. Smiling at you Frenchies can smile! This is our own French Bulldog smiling, his name is Claude! How to make a French Bulldog love you? As with any dog breed, you get what you put in. If you care and love your Frenchie, he or she will reciprocate that affection back to you. The smallest setting for the collar would be about 8 inches and expanding out from there. We use small carabiners to attach the stretched chain between the collar and the leash.
