The digestive system can become irritated by anxiety and stress, which can result in diarrhea. However, giving your German Shepherd dog food designed to prevent diarrhea can lessen their stress from stomach aches and give them a sense of relief. There are more benefits than you might have thought! The following is a quick guide to choosing foods that encourage firm stools and lessen stomach upset: High in protein, coming from a limited number of protein sources Look for foods that are high in protein and contain quickly digestible carbohydrates when choosing the best food for a German Shepherd suffering from diarrhea. Consuming excessive amounts of fat can result in runny stools, upset stomachs, and generally poor nutrition. Easily digestible carbohydrates Rice and oats, which are both readily digestible carbohydrates, can give your dog a consistent supply of energy and support a healthy digestive system. For owners who want to feed their pets a diet free of grains, there are still several food options. Or perhaps a mix of the two? Dry foods make up the vast majority of sensitive dog food options. Giving your dog dry kibble on a regular basis is simple and requires little effort. However, if you have a German Shepherd who finds it easier to eat softer, wet food, it may be worthwhile to consider such options to keep their bellies in shape. Cost vs. No dog owner is exempt from the costs of specially formulated pet foods. There are food options for German Shepherds experiencing diarrhea at a range of price points to accommodate different budgets. If you choose a more expensive option, you might discover that your dog is healthier, happier, and has fewer stomach sensitivities. Puppy, adult, and senior age groups You must choose the proper German Shepherd dog food for their age and needs. All of the foods on the list may soothe an upset stomach, but you also need to consider what your German Shepherd needs nutritionally based on their age. In general: Puppy food contains more calories and nutrients for healthy growth than adult food. Senior dog food contains fewer calories and fats to help dogs maintain weight. High palatability Does your dog have taste preferences that might sway them toward a certain flavor? Do you know they definitely dislike certain proteins, such as beef or lamb? German Shepherds with diarrhea can suffer from a lack of appetite, so food that smells tasty to them must be found in order for their guts to stay regular. Look for foods that not only have the vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients your dog needs for optimum health but are also tasty and enticing to your dog. Consider also that any other items you feed your dog could cause diarrhea, including treats. See here a list of healthy treat options for German Shepherds to give you some ideas. Instead of giving them the new food all at once, introduce it gradually to prevent stomach issues. Keep an eye on your dog during the transition period to ensure they are tolerating the new food well. Look out for any signs of digestive upset, such as diarrhea, vomiting, or loss of appetite. If your dog experiences any digestive issues, slow down the transition process and wait until they are feeling better before continuing. Once your dog is fully transitioned to the new food, monitor their overall health and well-being. Remember that if your German Shepherd has stomach issues unrelated to their diet, there is no dog food that will magically cure them. Be on the lookout for any indications of a digestive problem, such as nausea and upset stomach , vomiting, or a loss of appetite. Observe changes in their energy levels, coat, and general behavior. Always get them to a vet when in doubt! However, you should not put off taking your dog to the vet if their health is in jeopardy. The opposite side is giving your pup the wrong food that may lead to serious growth and digestive problems. Things to consider before choosing dog food for German Shepherds puppies 1. Their growth Puppies may need different nutrients at different stages depending on their growth rate. In fact, I like to say that Goldendoodles—no matter the color—are every shade of happy! So what shade of happy will you bring home? Why are there so many Goldendoodle colors? First, to understand why there are so many colors of Goldendoodles, we have to meet the Goldendoodle parent breeds—the Poodle and the Golden Retriever. Since the Goldendoodle also know as the Groodle or Golden Doodle is a hybrid or a cross breed between the Poodle and the Golden Retriever, they benefit from many characteristics and physical traits of both breeds. This includes coat color. The Golden Retriever parent breed brings shades of golden—from light golden to dark golden—to the mix. But when it comes to color variation, the Poodle parent breed is at the head of the doggo class. According to the AKC, there are 11 official standard Poodle colors and 16 more color combinations. The Poodle sports apricot, red, black, chocolate, silver, and white coat colors—just to name a few. Cream If you like the color of vanilla ice cream, sweet cream, or toasted marshmallows, you may be drawn to the warm ivory color of the cream Goldendoodle. Cream is one of the classic Goldendoodle colors. Both the Golden Retriever and Poodle breeds bring a wide variety of cream-colored coats to the Doodle mix. Plus, even among cream Goldendoodles there are many variations of colors. Curious to know more? Find out nine surprising things you may not know about the cream Goldendoodle. Apricot Somewhere between red and cream, sits another popular Goldendoodle coat color: apricot! This color is deeper and warmer than cream. Apricot Goldendoodles could almost fall in the red color family, but their coloring is really lighter and brighter and deserving of its own color category. Where does the apricot Goldendoodle get its warm, peachy cream coat color? Again, the Poodle gets the paw wave. According to the AKC, apricot is an official breed color of the purebred Poodle. Red Fall leaves. Christmas sweaters. Crunchy red apples. So many good things come in red…including Goldendoodles. Plus, some Golden Retrievers lean more toward warm, golden red, too. Depending on genetics, the red Goldendoodle can range in color from warm, brownish reds to deep ruby reds to cinnamon red. As my red Goldendoodle has matured into a senior Goldendoodle , her red coat color changed to look more like cinnamon and sugar. Would you like to know more about red Doodle dogs? Check out my complete guide to the red-iculously cute red Goldendoodle. Chocolate or brown Chocolate is a fitting name for brown Goldendoodles. Like the yummy treat, they come in a wide variety of colors and are sweet through and through. Chocolate Goldendoodles range in color from warm cocoa brown to rich, dark chocolate. Some chocolate Goldendoodles may even have a reddish hue. Chocolate Goldendoodles get their warm, rich coat color from the Poodle side of the family. According to the AKC, breed colors for Poodles include both brown and cafe au lait i. These two spectacular colors of Poodles give our Goldendoodles many variations and shades of brown. White White is an official breed color for Poodles, so it makes sense that white is a Goldendoodle coat color too. This color is a shade lighter than cream and gives these Goldendoodles the look of a summer cloud or a squishy marshmallow. Also, white is the base color for two-colored Goldendoodles, which are called parti Goldendoodles. More on that at the end of this article. This is a hefty topic, but in a nutshell, the article explains that genes associated with deafness in dogs also link to coat color, especially white coats or pigmentation. Also, it explains that breeds with white pigmentation are most often affected. Our Goldendoodles are counting on us to protect their future and be their voice. Black Yes, there are black Goldendoodles! Black Goldendoodles are less common than their red, apricot, and cream Goldendoodle counterparts. It all comes back to the parent breeds—the Golden Retriever and the Poodle—and coat color genetics. You can get my full scoop on why black is less common and 14 more things you may not know, in my full story on the black Goldendoodle. Also, you may be wondering whether black Goldendoodles change color. Because Goldendoodles are a cross breed, every dog is unique and every coat is different. That said, many black Goldendoodles may gray or fade, especially around the face and muzzle, as they mature. These two types of Goldendoodles are unique color patterns or markings rather than colors. Parti Life is a parti with a Goldendoodle! Usually, a parti Goldendoodle is part white and part one other color. The second coloration may be almost like a patchwork of color, and appear any where on the face, body, legs, paws, tummy, and tail. Phantom Color is not what makes a Goldendoodle a phantom. A phantom Goldendoodle has a primary coat color for most of the body and a secondary color that distinguishes the eyebrows, chin or muzzle, chest, paws or legs. The secondary color is almost like patches, but they appear on specific areas of the body. For example, a phantom Goldendoodle may have a black coat color with cream-colored markings on the eyebrows, muzzle, chest or throat, and paws or legs. The difference between a parti Goldendoodle and a phantom may seem subtle. Both the parti and the phantom may be two colors. However, the difference is in the markings. No matter what color of Goldendoodle you add to your pack, with your love, time, and attention your Goldendoodle will bring every shade of HAPPY to your life! On the other hand, the usual colors for Golden Retrievers include cream, white, and red. However, as the chocolate Goldendoodle grows polder, the color changes to brown with silver or faded brown. Chocolate Goldendoodle Coat Types A Chocolate Goldendoodle puppy With parents of different breeds, you can expect varying features in each chocolate Goldendoodle. This section discusses all 13 Goldendoodle colors for proper identification, including some of their charming pictures. Chocolate Image credit: the. You probably come across one in your neighborhood as you take your morning walk. They got their rich brown color from their dominant Poodle genes, but some of them experience silvering as they mature. Chocolate or brown dogs may become silver beige depending on their genes. The chocolate color in Goldendoodles is recessive , so you need two Goldendoodles that are either pure chocolate or have the chocolate gene in their lines to produce a chocolate Goldendoodle. Among all the colors listed here, apricot is probably the most sought-after because they resemble teddy bears. This is a trait they got from their Poodle parent, who also comes in the same tone. Apricot is also the last registered Poodle color. They are considered the brightest type because their coat simply stands out. This may fade into a lighter shade when they mature. They are often thought to be white Goldendoodles because they are very light in color. Creams have the largest variation when it comes to coat tones and points, so it is possible to see one with dark eyes, nose, and toenails and another with lighter features. Some are even pinkish under their coat. Champagne Champagne Goldendoodles exist, albeit rare. They possess a recessive red gene, which is also diluted to create a pale yellow to a cream tone. The rarity of these dogs makes them quite pricey, but they are still one to consider if you want a teddy-looking dog. However, their eyes, nose, and paw pads remain pure black. There are instances where white is more dominant, but those who are primarily black also exist. Contrary to what most people believe, not all black and white Goldendoodles should be called tuxedo because it pertains to a specific coat pattern. This will be focused on once the tuxedo coat pattern is discussed. When they reach two years old, their gray coloration even lightens to rustic silver, and there will be no more signs that they were once almost black. These dogs are very rare and are only achieved through multiple generations of breeding Goldendoodles. They also have blue noses and paw pads. Their hairs resemble that of an aged man, so you can easily identify them among others. Most silver Goldendoodles show signs that they are indeed silver as they reach 6 to 10 weeks. The tone of their coat has varying degrees, from dark to light silver. Silver Beige Image credit: wheresguthrie. They are originally born chocolate, but because of certain genes, their color cleared, and they become silver beige. What creates the effect that they are sables is the combination of silver to gray hairs and the beige coloration. Some parts of their body appear cream-colored, and this is expected from this variety. Aside from their impressive set of colors, Goldendoodles are even more unique because of their coat patterns. Usually, novice pet owners confuse this with certain coat diseases, but this is typical for this hybrid. The base coat may be one of the 13 basic colors discussed earlier. Usually, these are found on their face, chest, and paws. Often, two colors make up their coat: one is the base, and the second is a lighter shade. There is an exact location for the lighter points — above the eyes, along the sides of the muzzle, across the chest, along the legs, and under the tail. Most Goldendoodles with this coat pattern are developed through multi-generational breeding. This is why parti pups will have distinct appearances from each other. This creates the impression that they are wearing a tuxedo. Classic merle pups usually have some blue or chocolate patchwork or tickings on their body. Meanwhile, watercolor merles which are harder to come across, also have some tickings on their coat. They are distinct from the former because their coat lightens as they age. Most of them have light-base hairs, which makes their stripes stand out. The most popular color for Goldendoodles is also the last color to be recognized for Poodles — apricot. The fame it gained as the latest color for the breed is also reflected in its cross between the Golden Retrievers and Poodles. This is followed by cream and red. Sables are also in demand even though they are not of the same level as the three shades mentioned above. Since these colors are desired by many, expect that they are a bit more expensive than their other cousins. Despite being common and easy to breed, these black pups are not highly sought after. What Is the Rarest Goldendoodle Color? The rarest Goldendoodle colors are those that can only be achieved through multi-generational breeding. This means that in order to produce these dogs, you have to breed together puppies beyond f2 or second generations. These are gray, blue, and silver. Apart from these colors, two patterns are found to be rare. They are the phantom and parti Goldendoodle. Similar to the gray, blue, and silver dogs, they can only be achieved through multi-generational breeding. The color of every dog is a product of its two main pigments, eumelanin and pheomelanin. Eumelanin is black in default, but it also produces certain diluted colors due to the genes inherited by the dog. The second pigment, which is pheomelanin, is primarily red, but it can become apricot, cream, tan, and other similar shades when altered by dilution genes. For a breeder to produce a certain Goldendoodle color, the parents must undergo DNA testing to determine whether they can produce the desired color for the litter. Some others carry a recessive gene that makes them exhibit a very different color from their parents. There are some myths that aim to taint the reputation of some varieties but have no scientific basis. For instance, the assumption that black Goldendoodles are aggressive simply because they are black colored. Make sure to look for pertinent data first before becoming influenced by mere opinions on the color and the breed of dogs. In fact, a friend of mine who has two male Goldendoodles of different colors, a blue three-year-old, and an apricot 2-year-old, has observed that the two have very similar temperaments. Both are affectionate and love being with him all the time. But if we are to consider the study of the University of Sydney, which investigated the life expectancy of dogs according to their colors, chocolate Goldendoodles may be prone to ear infections and various skin diseases. Merles are also observed to be predisposed to deafness, blindness, skin sensitivity, and skin cancer, especially when the two parents used to breed the puppy both carry the merle gene. These are extreme issues, so you better consider this in buying your pet. As is with other crosses and purebreds, Goldendoodles also experience subtle color changes as they mature. This phenomenon is brought about by their Poodle lineage. Mostly, red and its varieties lighten when they reach two years of age. But other colors may also undergo lightening through a process called silvering or dilution. This is more prevalent in black and chocolate puppies who turn out blue, silver, or silver beige, depending on their genes. However, this may not be true for all Goldendoodle puppies. Some may not have any genes that will lighten their colors and will retain their rich color all the way to adulthood. It is partially regarded as an official poodle color by the AKC. For the 2nd Chocolate Goldendoodle color variation, we have the coffee brown coat color. This has a lighter shade of brown than the dark color variation for the Goldendoodle. It is quite beautiful and oftentimes comes with a shiny silvery glint on them. Chocolate Goldendoodle Lifespan How long your Chocolate Goldendoodle lives can be affected by many factors, proper breeding practices being one and health vigor being another. However, for the Chocolate Goldendoodle, you get an average lifespan that varies from 10 years to 15 years. When compared to the parents, we can wholeheartedly say, that the Chocolate Goldendoodle lives longer than the Golden Retriever and is about the same lifespan as that of the Poodle parent. In comparison to other Goldendoodle color variations, the Chocolate Goldendoodle shares pretty much the same lifespan as other color variations of the Goldendoodle. They all live for as long as 15 years on average which is quite good, as you get to enjoy the loveable company of your loveable furry friend for a much longer time period. However, you should note that the lifespan can be affected by health defects and genetic issues which would be discussed later in the article. Training the Chocolate Goldendoodle One of the best traits of the Goldendoodle, in general, is their high intelligence which helps make training the Goldendoodle a lot easier and enjoyable. The chocolate Goldendoodle is no exception as they are very intelligent and would adapt to being trained with much ease. When compared to the Golden Retriever and Poodle parents, the Goldendoodle inherits its high intelligence from the Poodle although, the Golden Retriever is also an intelligent dog breed. They are more likely to learn a trick faster than most dog breeds out there. The Chocolate Goldendoodle is eager and willing to learn new tricks, this makes them perfect dogs for show competitions as well as suitable dogs for therapy, service, and work dogs. As long as the Goldendoodle is trained early, it would pick up new tricks with relative ease. Every chocolate Goldendoodle breed is best trained using positive reinforcement. This ensures you make use of positive treats and non-strict corrections to keep the puppy motivated and well trained. Try as much as possible to not get frustrated while teaching your Goldendoodle new tricks, as this would do more harm than good. Common Chocolate Goldendoodle Health Problems Before getting a Chocolate Goldendoodle puppy, or any Goldendoodle puppy from a breeder, it is quite important that you ask or enquire from the Goldendoodle breeder about the breeding practice used or employed by the Goldendoodle, as even though the Goldendoodle has a higher tolerance to diseases and health defects than the Golden Retriever or Poodle parent, they still suffer from following conditions; 1. Hip Dysplasia The dysplasia of the hip or elbow is quite common with large dog breeds like the Poodle and the Golden Retriever. It occurs when there is an unusual displacement from the regular working of the ball and socket joint. It is a very painful condition that could limit or altogether stop the movement of the Goldendoodle. Goldendoodles with Hip dysplasia might require surgery if the condition gets too critical. Cataracts Also known as cloudy eyes, cataracts can be quite damaging for the Goldendoodle, in this case, the Goldendoodle would develop a white blur in his vision that could later grow to completely render the Goldendoodle blind. With Older Goldendoodles, the condition might go bad, as the condition can not be treated. However, younger Goldendoodles could later regain their sight when surgery has been done. Skin Sensitivity Over time, your Goldendoodle might develop skin issues that can result from poor grooming practices and improper health practices as well. These can lead to skin reactions, spots, and other blemishes that can leave the Goldendoodle uncomfortable and in pain. Because of their sensitive skin, it is required you observe regular Grooming for the Goldendoodle to keep them happy and playful. Arthritis Arthritis is quite rare for the Goldendoodle, but it does happen and can be very painful or life-threatening for the beautiful furry angel. A Goldendoodle that suffers from Arthritis would suffer from inflamed joints, which could lead to overall discomfort for the Goldendoodle puppy. Seizures Seizures or Epilepsy are quite common for the Goldendoodle. Also life-threatening, Goldendoodles inherit this terrible condition from both breeding parents of the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. This condition could be avoided with proper breeding practices, this is why you should always deal with a reputable breeder. As it has already been stated, the Goldendoodle with a straight coat is prone to more shedding than a Goldendoodle with a curly or shaggy coat. However, all Goldendoodles are considered hypoallergenic, with low to no shedding coats. This, therefore, affects the required amount of grooming each chocolate Goldendoodle would require. For Goldendoodles with long straight coats, they would need to be groomed a minimum of 2 to 3 times a year. This would involve bathing and brushing the coat. For a Goldendoodle with a wavy or curly coat, 4 to 5 times a year of regular grooming would be required. This can be achieved with regular brushing, dental care, and also nail trimmings. How Much Are Chocolate Goldendoodles? Chocolate F1b Goldendoodle Puppies The price of the Goldendoodle has seen a nice increase over time, this is because Goldendoodles are fast becoming widely recognized and are loved by numerous people. Remember, it is quality over price. Is a Chocolate Goldendoodle right for you? Chocolate Goldendoodle Puppy The Chocolate Goldendoodle is a rare variation of the Goldendoodle that is widely loved by doodle lovers across the United States and the whole world. They bring the loveable character sets of the Golden Retriever and Poodle, while still being beautiful and almost flawless in their chocolate coats. They are awesome family companions that you definitely would enjoy. As we have stated in numerous points of this article, ensure you get your chocolate Goldendoodle or any Goldendoodle from a reputable breeder. Ask the right questions and demand the right certifications. Other Goldendoodle Colors. Black For even more variety, there are patterns of these colors found in the Goldendoodle, including parti, merle, phantom, and brindle. Merle is a varied coat pattern. While a beautiful color, the merle gene can cause blindness and deafness if two parents carrying the merle gene are bred together, so merles should be bred only by very knowledgeable breeders who test for the merle gene and understand the genetics involved. Brindle patterns appear as stripes, the color and the width vary with each dog. With careful breeding, breeders can now produce litters with predictable coat types and shedding propensities. One of the things that many people find attractive about the Goldendoodle is the low shedding and hypo-allergenic qualities of the coat, and the adorable ragamuffin look of the Goldendoodle. No longer do you need to rely on the generation of a Goldendoodle to determine appearance or shedding intensity! This is why some Labradoodles have short coats in the early generations, whereas Goldendoodles do not. Curl KRT71 gene Goldendoodles can be curly, wavy, or straight. They inherit their number of curl genes from their parents. If a breeder tests the parent dogs for the curl gene, they can better predict the appearance of their puppies. Even more interestingly, genetic technology has taught us that furnishings are what confer the low- to non-shedding coats on our Goldendoodles that help make them such optimal family dogs. Based on Mendelian genetics, this educated guess was often just that—a guess about the odds. This is when the use of notations like F1 and F1b came about and what has caused many people to think they need to know the generation to guess about furnishings. In the recent past, new commercially available tests have been developed that allow us to genetically test our parent dogs for furnishing genes and other coat genes as well, such as curl so we can better predict coat type in puppies. This is much, much more accurate and dependable than the old Mendelian filial F1, F1b, etc. The gene responsible for furnishings is dominant; so by testing the parent dogs DNA, it can be determined if a breed pair will produce puppies that all have furnishings, or if there will be some puppies with an incorrect or Golden Retriever like coat. Dogs with one copy of the furnishings gene Ff or F IC are lower shedding than dogs without furnishings. Dogs with two copies of furnishing genes FF are typically non-shedding. If you have a family with allergies, a Goldendoodle with an incorrect coat is not the best match for you. Coat variation in the domestic dog is governed by variants in three genes. J Hered. The Shedding gene is still relevant for shedding for NON-furnished dogs short facial hair , but have no impact for shedding for our furnished Goldendoodles. Even a Goldendoodle with two furnishings genes does not guarantee that you will not be allergic to a particular dog. Allergies are very complex and shedding is just one of the components that factor in the equation. Consider that dander, saliva, proteins, and allergens carried on the dogs coat, etc. As you can see, there is a lot of science that goes into the selection of breeding mates to produce the ideal Goldendoodle. Red Fawn French Bulldogs are essentially the same as Red Frenchies with a reddish shade of fawn color, but their coat has a sort of ashy shine. These puppies usually have black markings around their muzzle called a mask as well as their eyes and ears , and they also tend to have a white patch on their chest. While the classic Fawn French Bulldog has a solid, light tan coat, Red Fawn French Bulldogs have a reddish-brown coat color that varies in shade from light cinnamon to darker mahogany. Some Red Fawn Frenchies may have a more prominent reddish hue, while others may have a lighter fawn coloration. Similar to all canine breeds, Red Fawn French Bulldogs go through a growth process as they develop from puppies to full-grown adults. As puppies, they are petite and fragile, weighing only a few pounds and measuring a few inches in height. To ensure their physical and emotional health, it is important to provide them with appropriate nourishment, socialization, and veterinary care. Red Fawn French Bulldogs are considered a small dog breed, with an average weight of 16 to 28 pounds and a height of 11 to 12 inches at the shoulder. They cherish the company of children and are quite comfortable with other animals and pets, especially if you have trained them to grow up together. These dogs are fond of people and love to be around them, and hence, it is tough for them to cope with solitude. They need the company of the owners, and in return, expect their care and attention. With all these graces and goodness, they are perfect for first-time dog owners. This large breed is comfortable living in apartments, provided you help them meet their regular exercise needs. Care Exercise These active dogs have a high level of energy, which they can burn down by sufficient amount of exercise. They also love swimming. But be present with them when they do. Take your GL out for a long brisk walk or a jog at least once a day, for a minimum of 30 min. This should not merely keep it mentally sound and physically fit, but would also strengthen the bond between you and your companion dog. Your dog would also appreciate if you indulge it in some everyday games. If you have an open yard, it can simply roam around freely, which should also add to its fitness activities. But make sure your yard is fenced and safe where you can easily free it from the leash. Grooming Use a rubber curry brush to groom it. If your dog has already started losing hair, we recommend that, you brush it daily. Otherwise, only a weekly session sounds good. This should remove all its dead and loose hairs. To avoid ear infections, do not forget to rinse the inside of their ears when they come out of the water. Also, take care of their teeth by brushing them every week to keep away possible plaque buildups. Because of their hefty built and other associated genetic factors, they are prone to a few issues like elbow and hip dysplasias, PRA Progressive Retinal Atrophy , diabetes, cataracts, and certain skin conditions that are especially prevalent amongst yellow labs including allergies, hotspots, dry skin, sun burns etc. Train it to socialize from a very young age, right after adoption. Let them know people and mingle with your children and other pets at home, and practice obedience. This should work. They would grow up to a happy dog without much anxiety and concern of its surroundings. Teach them tricks like retrieving, and enthuse them in agility games like flyball, Frisbee, etc. Do take the lead and let your dog follow you. But insist on sober and gentle training methods. Praise them as they succeed, give them treats, toys and gifts. However, if you choose dry dog foods, do stick to high-quality foods only, and those that are meant for the dogs of its size and energy. But divide the food into two equal meals. Breed Title Goldador Puppies Temperament Goldadors are an amazing combination of the intelligence and trainability of the Labrador and the friendly, gentle personality of the Golden Retriever. With their outgoing, friendly character and sweet disposition, Goldadors make excellent family pets around children and other animals as they have a great aptitude for understanding people. In terms of temperament, these beloved pups are highly sociable but not overly boisterous or hyper; they enjoy playing fetch but rest just as happily on your lap or at your feet while you work. Golden Labrador Retriever Puppy Health Considerations Though generally very happy and long-lived — with an average lifespan of around years — our Goldadors for sale are not without their unique health concerns. Like every breed of dog, there are a few conditions you should be aware of before you consider purchasing one of our Golden Labrador Retriever puppies for sale. Understanding the risks allows you to know the signs and prevent small health concerns from turning into big ones. Finding a Golden Labrador puppy for sale from a reputable breeder can also dramatically — although, not eliminate — the risk of your dog developing some of these conditions. Depending on the climate they live in, Goldadors may need regular baths — however omitting shampoo once or twice a year will ensure their coat retains its natural oils. Finally it is recommended to check the ears regularly and trim nails as needed. Adopted Golden Labrador Retriever Puppies. The double coat has a soft undercoat below a rough top coat that is water resistant. Either way, their coat will be fairly high maintenance. Shedding and Grooming Your new friend is going to shed, sometimes a lot. Both parent breeds heavily shed their coats with the change of seasons twice a year. For the rest of the year, expect a moderate level of shedding. Increased brushing during transitional times can help catch the loose hairs and stop them from spreading everywhere. Golden Retriever Labrador mixes will need weekly brushing, likely more during shedding season. Their nails should be trimmed regularly as well. Are They Hypoallergenic? The Goldador dog will not be hypoallergenic. They are high shedders, spreading dander from skin and saliva liberally around your home! With designer breeds like the Golden Retriever Lab, you can only make an educated guess about their temperament based on the general demeanor of their parents as well as the temperament of the parent breeds as a whole. If they are left alone a lot, they may become very destructive to your home. They will chew out of boredom or anxiety. As many Lab lovers know, these dogs do not know a stranger. Generally, the Goldador will get on well with children and other pets. Socialization Socialization from an early age is important for any breed, including the Golden Retriever Lab. Even though it hails from overly friendly and sociable breeds, there are still no guarantees to the temperament of your dog. Since training and socialization are both best started early on, puppy training classes can be a great way to both train and socialize your puppy at the same time. Training Tips The Goldador has an easygoing and eager to please temperament that helps make them highly trainable. Owners should start training early, from the time their puppy comes home. The parent breeds have a long history as service dogs, bomb detection dogs, hunting dogs, and now therapy dogs. Obedience classes will help create a well-mannered dog but also strengthens the bond between the dog and owner. Since Goldadors grow to be large dogs, obedience is also important to prevent them from jumping up at your guests! Energy Levels Golden Retriever Labrador puppies will grow into high-energy adults with a love for playing and a passion for retrieving! A Labrador Golden Retriever Mix makes a great companion for jogging, hiking, or cycling. This is a breed that also loves to swim. Canine sports, like agility, obedience trials, and tracking, are also a great way to keep your dog physically active, mentally stimulated, and out of trouble. As a very social breed, they do best as indoor dogs, but with a large, fenced in yard to run around. In addition to self-exercise, they need walks or other forms of daily activity with their owners. Exercise is especially important for the health of your Goldador since both Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers have a tendency to develop elbow and hip dysplasia. Weight management is one way of combating these joint problems. Health and Care All pedigree dog breeds are inbred to some extent. The measure of this is called the coefficient of inbreeding COI. The higher the COI, the greater the risks of health issues arising specifically from inbreeding. In a crossbreed such as the Goldador, the COI is usually much lower than it is in a purebred dog, and this is a good thing. To begin to look at the health and care of a Goldador we first need to consider the inherited health risks from both parent breeds Labrador and Golden Retriever. Labrador Health Labrador Retrievers are prone to a few hereditary health conditions and joint problems, as well as some health issues common to most dogs. To help minimize the likelihood of hereditary health issues in your new Goldador pup, check that your breeder has followed the recommended testing for the Labrador Retriever breed: Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis HNKP. Life Span Did You Know? The Golden Labrador is a designer dog breed that originated in the United States. They are a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Labrador Retriever. The goal was to combine these two highly popular breeds to create a dog that exhibits the best traits from both of them. A mixed dog breed can take after one parent breed more than the other or any combination of traits from the parent breeds. This can result in some variation among individual puppies. But, overall, a Golden Labrador is friendly, intelligent, energetic, and affectionate. Although this mixed breed is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, they are recognized by other notable organizations like the American Canine Hybrid Club and more. This large designer breed is characterized by their energetic personality and friendly disposition. Both of the parent breeds in this cross are open, friendly, and affectionate, so you can expect the same in your Golden Labrador puppy. They are very playful and get along fabulously with children, other dogs, and other pets. They may be alert enough to be a good watchdog, but they do not make good guard dogs. They are instinctually more interested in making new friends and getting attention than they are with anything else. They can have a slight prey drive, but most of the time, they are just curious and interested in playing and making friends. The Golden Labrador is a moderately adaptable dog breed. Their large size and energy tend to make them a better fit for larger homes with room to run. They can adapt well to apartment living as long as they are given enough exercise and mental stimulation. But, small spaces can be a challenge because they are large dogs that are so playful and energetic. Golden Labradors do well in just about any climate. As with most dog breeds, they are sensitive to heat and extreme cold. Because they love their families, thrive on attention, and get bored easily, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. As a mixed breed, a Golden Labrador can inherit the potential health conditions of one or both of the parent breeds. Although the Golden Labrador is a relatively healthy dog breed, there are some potential health conditions to be aware of. These include eye problems like progressive retinal atrophy and joint issues common to large dogs like patellar luxation and hip dysplasia. Like their parent breeds, the Golden Labrador can be prone to weight gain, which does put them at risk of diabetes later in life. Reputable breeders will screen their stock to ensure genetic conditions are not being passed on to puppies. Regular vet visits, proper nutrition, and sufficient exercise can help keep your dog healthy and reduce preventable diseases. Both of the parent breeds in this cross are highly intelligent and highly trainable, so the Golden Labrador should be no different. Eager to please their owners, these dogs pick up on things quickly and respond best to positive training methods focused on praise and reward. This dog breed, like both of the parent breeds, is a great fit for owners of all experience levels, including first-time dog owners. Their high energy can sometimes be a challenge, so you may want to consider puppy training and obedience classes. This designer dog breed may be called a Golden Labrador, but they can show up in many colors. A cream, yellow, or golden coat may be the most common, but a Golden Labrador can also have a black, red, or brown coat. It tends to be a dense double coat that is short or medium in length. This dog breed will shed moderately year-round with heavier shedding sessions twice a year as the seasons change. During seasonal changes, you may want to increase to daily brushing. Not only will this make your dog more comfortable, but it will also decrease the amount of loose fur that ends up around your house. In addition to coat care, you will also need to handle nail, ear, and dental care for your Golden Labrador. Floppy ears tend to trap more dirt, moisture, and debris, which makes them more prone to developing ear infections than ears that stick straight up. Unfortunately, this is often overlooked, which is why gum disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. Beyond that, you can use vet-approved dental hygiene chews and treats and even a specially-formulated dental care diet to supplement your efforts. Getting them used to it early and keeping it a positive experience can make grooming a lot easier as your puppy grows into a big dog! Plus, it can become a bonding experience that your dog looks forward to. Golden Labradors are high-energy dogs. Daily walks, playtime, and some extra activity are generally enough for this dog to stay happy and healthy. But, they will probably tire out before you do! Their friendly nature makes the Golden Labrador a great fit for trips to the dog park. Try teaching your dog how to play frisbee. With their retriever background, it could become one of their favorite activities. You can also train your Golden Labrador for several dog sports like agility, dock diving, obedience, and more. A fully-grown Golden Labrador usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between pounds. A Golden Labrador generally lives years. Although Golden Labrador is the most popular name for this designer dog breed, they are also sometimes referred to as a Goldador or a Goldador Retriever. Featured Golden Labrador Article. It is a cross between the Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. A lot of people make the mistake of buying an English Bulldog without doing much research, only to later discover that these dogs have a lot of special needs. In this guide, I will lead you through all you need to know before buying an English Bulldog, and also what to look for, particularly with the breeder. What should I know before buying an English Bulldog? Although English Bulldogs are known to be sweet, loyal, and very people-centered, they are also prone to a host of health problems. This is the most important aspect of all… you need to be prepared for the potential for high vet bills. These specific needs can make them time-consuming and expensive dogs to keep. Unfortunately, far too many English Bulldogs end up abandoned once they develop costly health problems. As a result of decades of breeding to ensure a flat nose and stout figure and those famous wrinkles , English Bulldogs are unfortunately prone to a few genetic disorders. These include hip dysplasia, brachycephalic syndrome, and ventricular septal defect, where a hole develops in the heart. However, many of the other conditions that plague this breed are avoidable with a little foresight and care. As they are a brachycephalic flat-faced breed, they find it harder to breathe than other dogs. This is especially true in summer when they are prone to heat exhaustion. Additionally, they are also predisposed to a multitude of skin conditions. If the folds around their face are not kept clean, it can cause bacteria growth that can result in irritation and even infection if left for too long. With that said, these are charming and loyal dogs. Full of personality and affection, they make perfect family pets and ideal companions for the right owners. This next step will depend on whether you want to adopt an adult English Bulldog or a puppy. Each choice has its advantages and disadvantages, so it depends on which one will suit your lifestyle better. Buying English Bulldog puppies Aside from the cuteness overload, arguably the best advantage when it comes to buying an English Bulldog puppy is that you can train them early on to fit in with your lifestyle. However, if you have the time, experience, and patience to get through those initial months of training, you will have the opportunity to build an excellent bond with your new pup. Buying a puppy can present a lot of challenges, but providing you know what to look for, it will be a rewarding experience! By ensuring that they are getting adequate training from day one, you can help them to avoid bad behaviors. In a similar vein, by making sure they are getting the right healthcare early on, you can ensure that they avoid any unnecessary health complications. Buying an English Bulldog puppy from a reputable breeder also means that you can be sure about their heritage. English Bulldogs are not cheap from the get-go, but as puppies, they will require plenty of trips to the vet for all their initial check-ups and vaccinations. Buying an adult English Bulldog Buying an English Bulldog who is fully grown means that there will be fewer surprises. On the downside, any bad habits they have developed will be firmly ingrained. Buying an adult English Bulldog who has already been trained can be a lot easier. The only challenge here is that it may take some time to find the right dog to fit your needs. On the flip side, there are also plenty of adult English Bulldogs looking for a home who have behavioral issues. Although some of these issues are minor and may only need remedial training to correct, there is also the risk of encountering more severe behavioral problems. A dog who displays fearful or aggressive behavior may take years of training to correct and is not a task for an inexperienced owner. The only danger here is that you may not be adopting a purebred dog. Aside from this, there are also dedicated rescues just for English Bulldogs. How to buy an English Bulldog Arguably the most crucial step you can take when choosing to adopt an English Bulldog puppy is to ensure that you are going through a reputable breeder. An honest and dedicated breeder will always put in the time and effort to ensure that any puppies they are raising are as healthy as they can be. The puppies should be socialized from a young age, and the breeder should have no issue with you coming to visit the kennels. This is where you do not want to hunt for a bargain. English Bulldogs are expensive to breed, owing to the unique complications and special needs involved with this practice. Although you could go for a cheaper puppy, you risk adopting a dog with severe health issues. As a general rule of thumb, a cheaper dog can end up costing you far more in the long run. Also, many good breeders should be able to provide you with a bill of clean health before you adopt, and they should offer you a guarantee. Once you adopt, they should give you at least two days so that you can get your new puppy checked out by your own veterinarian. If you find any unexpected health issues within this period, the breeder should be willing to offer you a refund or to replace your puppy. What to look for when buying an English Bulldog puppy Once you have settled on a reputable breeder, now comes the best bit: picking out your new puppy including what to look for when buying an English Bulldog. For one, you need to ensure you pick the happiest and friendliest puppy in the pack. If the puppy is curious and shows confidence when approaching you, that is an excellent sign. Instead, enter the enclosure where the puppies are kept, and sit down to observe them. As hard as it can be, resist the urge to reach out for any of them, and instead allow them to come to you. Doing this also allows you to observe their behavior. The puppy that you pick should be friendly, easy-going, and well natured. Other signs to keep an eye out for include: Clean eyes and ears: The puppy should not be squinting. Red eyes in particular can be a sign of a serious problem. Look for a straight tail that shows no restriction while moving: Additionally, the tail should not be pointing down. These can all be an indication of screw-tail — a malformation of the vertebra in the tail. This condition can result in severe discomfort for the dog, and expensive treatment later on down the line. See how often you should walk your English Bulldog. Where you can, avoid puppies with abnormal coloring: This type of coloration includes chocolate, black, blue, and lilac. All of these colours are clear indicators that the puppy may develop severe health issues as it grows older. Decide on a male or female puppy: In general terms, males tend to be more energetic, whereas females can be more relaxed. Be cautious if the price is too cheap. An unusually low price could be the sign of an unhealthy English Bulldog puppy. That said, by keeping an eye out for some of these signs, you are more likely to be adopting the healthiest puppy that you can. English Bulldogs only have 3 to 4 puppies in a litter and only should be bred a handful of times over their lifetime. Questions to ask an English Bulldog breeder Before you settle on buying an English Bulldog and have ticked off all the things you should look for, please, please, please question the breeder extensively. Ask how many litters the mother has had: an English Bulldog should only really have 1 litter a year, preferably only one every couple of years. More than that is a warning sign that she has been bred more than she should have been. Make sure your breeder is knowledgeable: on looking after his breed. Also Google the breeder first to see what other people have said about them. Ask if the puppy has been assessed by a vet: You also want to be sure the puppy has had the right vaccinations. Injections should be sorted out by the breeder before the puppies are available to buy. By doing so you can see what the puppy might grow up to be like and whether the mother is healthy. Ask if the parents have had health checks: This will also help you decide whether the puppy will grow up healthy with no genetic traits. Things to look out for on the health check include hip problems, cataracts, cherry eye, deafness, and soft palate problems. The best breeders will be transparent and honest. Ask how old the parents are: A mother younger than 3 years old ca present a problem as health problems might not yet have appeared yet. Try to buy an English Bulldog puppy whose mother is older than this age. Ask where the puppies have been living:You want to buy an English Bulldog puppy who has been socialized a little. Ask how often the puppies have been handled: Puppies that are handled from a young age will also be easier to train. Conclusion Regardless of these issues and health concerns, English Bulldogs are beautiful and sweet companions. They are full of personality and will be sure to make you laugh with their confidence and quirkiness. However, they do require a lot of care and attention… and any potential problems can be reduced providing you know what questions to ask and what to look out for when buying an English Bulldog puppy or adult dog. I write about the things we've learned about owning dogs, the adventures we have, and any advice and tips we've picked up along the way. Recent Posts. Contact Us Buying A Bulldog The Definitive Guide English bulldogs are the mascots of choice for many colleges, organizations, and even military branches. Bulldogs are mostly docile and well-behaved, choosing sleep over other popular canine activities. For those looking to purchase a bulldog, there are several considerations that must be made beforehand. Below are some tips on how to shop and buy a Bulldog puppy, what to look for in a breeder, and what to consider when purchasing a dog. What should I expect to pay for a puppy and how do I choose a reputable breeder? Many are surprised to find out that bulldogs are an expensive breed. In fact, quality puppies will set you back anywhere from two to four thousand dollars. But, there is a reason for this. Bulldogs are the result of specific and selective breeding process especially when it comes to champion dogs and bulldogs that represent the breed well. There are huge expenses for the breeder as well such as progesterone testing, stud fees, c-sections, milk formula, vaccinations, de-wormings, puppy checkups, special diets, whelping gear, etc. Choosing a dog because of a smaller price tag could cost you more in the long-run. You should search for a reputable English bulldog breeder. But where to start? One of these requirements is health testing. This way at least you know that you are dealing with Breeders who are conscientious about producing healthy puppies. Do not look to purchase puppies through Craigslist, Social Media Sites, Pet Stores or the Walmart parking lot yes, I have seen them for sale in parking lots! Breeders who sell thru these venues are generally profiting and are not truly dedicated to the breed. These puppies are often poorly bred which results in an unhealthy puppy. A reputable breeder will be available to you for the long haul and eager to help with any questions or concerns throughout your bulldogs life. Look for breeders who can provide you with a complete pedigree of your dog, a health guarantee, and a bill of sale. Finally, never have a bulldog shipped to you. Since they are brachycephalic flat-faced , they are less likely to survive the shipping process compared to other breeds. What should I know about Bulldog health and Cost? You should know beforehand bulldogs can have minor but common health concerns, including cherry eye and skin allergies and require excellent veterinary care so before buying a puppy make sure to have the puppy checked out by a Vet. A reputable and responsible breeder will have a clear and transparent health guarantee listed on their website and give you hours to get the pup examined at your own vet just in case there are any costly or life-threatening conditions outside the minor issues common to bulldogs that can be easily treated. Check to see if they will replace the puppy; refund you in the event something is untreatable. Caring for a female dog in heat is messy and time consuming, and male dogs with their testicles intact tend to be more headstrong and have more of a tendency to lift their legs and mount yours than neutered males. Finally, decide on appearance. White bulldogs resembling the University of Georgia mascot are very popular, but the breed standard also allows for dogs to be brindle or red. Black or blue colors however, are not part of the breed standard. The English bulldog is a great breed, but be sure to know what to look for in a breeder and in a puppy before purchasing. Finally, if a puppy is not your thing, there are many bulldog rescues throughout the country that can provide you with an adult dog. Whatever method you employ, remember to take your time, do your research, and always opt for quality over cost. For detailed information or to have a question answered by a breeder click here. Generally, expect to pay somewhere in-between for a well-bred puppy from a renowned and respectable breeder. The fees for a new puppy is not all profiteering by the breeder, though. There are expensive testing procedures they must pay for, such as progesterone testing. When faced with the high cost of buying a new puppy, some think it makes sense to buy a cheaper dog. The puppies are a more affordable price for a reason, which is usually slipshod breeding methods. When this happens, the new owner will pay thousands more in vet bills because of ongoing health issues. They have a list of Bulldog breeders they recommend. English Bulldogs are brachycephalic flat-faced , and even if the breeder can find an airline that still allows these dogs on board, the dog might not survive. Some of the common problems with English Bulldogs are breathing difficulties, hip dysplasia, skin allergies, and cherry eye. Even the best quality Bulldogs can suffer from any of these ailments. But even though the health issues are minor, they will add to the cost of owning a Bulldog. What you need to avoid are any serious underlying health problems. You can avoid them by buying your puppy from a reputable breeder. These breeders do everything in their power to produce the best quality and healthiest Bulldog puppies. They care about their dogs and their reputation. They will offer you a health guarantee. Generally, the breeder allows for the puppy to be seen by your vet. If your vet finds anything serious, the breeder should offer a refund or a replacement puppy, depending on what you both agreed. A good breeder will always question prospective new parents to make sure they will be suitable for their puppies. Most breeders you come across will only sell their puppies if they are spayed or neutered when they reach the correct age. Generally, breeders are not enthusiastic about the selling dogs for breeding or showing. If they are, expect to pay a lot more money. What Color Do You Want? All white is trendy, but they can also be brindle or red. Be aware that black or blue is not part of the Bulldog breed standard. If you are lucky enough to get a pick of the litter, which should you choose? From our experience, we like puppies that show confidence and curiosity. Try to contain your enthusiasm and wait for a puppy to notice and pay attention to you. Many people say they picked an individual puppy because they instantly connected with the puppy they chose. But always lookout for the one that notices you. Cherry eye is a problem with the breed. Inside the mouth: Look for an elongated soft palate; if there is, avoid the puppy. Breathing: Because they are brachycephalic, Bulldogs will always labor a little with their breathing. Make sure this is not excessive in any of the puppies. Lethargic: A puppy can be sleepy, but when he wakes up, he should be lively. If the puppy seems overly tired and sluggish, he has a problem. Walking and playing: The puppy should walk correctly, does not appear wobbly on his feet or dizzy. He should be aware of his surroundings. Puppy nose: Look for Stenotic Nares in the puppy. These are narrow, pinched nostrils that will create significant breathing difficulties later on. Conclusion Adopting a puppy is a joyous occasion for all the family. Buying English bulldogs through these venues also keeps in existence an industry that thrives on the unhappiness and pain of defenseless animals. A breeder must follow stringent guidelines before the BCA will endorse them. When picking a reliable breeder, it is essential to know their reputation. How long have they been in business? Are the dogs allowed to mature before breeding? Is the breeder comfortable with you visiting their facilities? A reputable breeder should come across as open and honest and welcome your visit. Preferably, the parents will be together, and the animals can go outside to play. Check if the puppy has been socialized with cats and children as well as with other dogs. You should not buy an English Bulldog puppy if they offer to fly it to you. Are they healthy and friendly toward other animals and each other? What do they look like? Those adorable puppies are likely to grow up to look like and act like one of their parents. Meet the Puppies Of course, you are going to fall in love. Puppies are adorable! But step back a moment and make sure you pick the right puppy. Study the puppies to avoid obvious health issues. Here is a list of what to look for when buying an English bulldog puppy. If the puppy is five to six weeks old, she should walk and breathe normally. Rasping, rattling, or wheezing is a red flag. Is the puppy happy and friendly? His tail should be straight and move easily — not restricted or pointing down. The puppy should not need to squint when looking at you. Is the dog deaf? White or predominately white bulldogs are prone to deafness. The puppy should be aware of his surroundings and be lively, not sluggish or overly tired. If elongated, the soft palate can cause issues. Be cautious about selecting the runt of the litter as they may have more health issues. Temperament Is the puppy friendly? Did she come to you? Look for signs that the pup is fearful. Is he whimpering, crying, or urinating due to fear? Check for aggression or rebellion. How does the puppy act if restrained for 30 seconds? Will she follow you? Will the pup let you carry him? You want your puppy to be confident, curious, easy-going, and good-natured. Gender Male or female? Many believe a female bulldog is easier to train, and the males are less emotional. Every dog has its own personality, so judge the pups by their temperament. Body Type All bulldogs have slightly different body shapes. Observing the parents should give you a good idea of how large your dog will grow and its body type. Perhaps its head will be a bit larger or its legs a bit shorter. Color English bulldogs come in eight standard colors. The piebald 2 colors and tri-color bullies combine these colors. Brindle tiger-stripe — is a striped pattern with a different colored base. Fawn red — ranges from a pale tan to deep deer-red. White — a popular choice that may be pure white or have a few freckles in another color. Lilac — rare color variation, the purplish-gray color is a mix of blue and brown hues. Black — a rarer color, the shiny black coat may have a fawn undercoat. Blue — the coat will appear gray in the sun or against darker-colored objects. Chocolate — another rare color. A deep, rich brown. Seal — very rare. These dogs have light-colored eyes and a reddish or brownish cast to their coats. Their legs and tail will be darker than the rest of their coats, and they will have a dark stripe down their backs. Some experts suggest that bulldogs that are black, blue, lilac, chocolate, or seal color could have more health problems than the brindle, fawn red , and white dogs. The Breeder Should Question You A reputable breeder cares for his dogs and wants them to have a good forever home. It is usual for them to question you on your suitability as a dog owner. They will not be enthusiastic about selling dogs for breeding or showing, so you will pay a premium if that is your intention. A good breeder will not hand over the puppy until it is eight weeks to three months old. Before eight weeks, puppies need their mothers for health, developmental, and weaning reasons. Separating them from their mothers too soon can lead to health and behavioral problems. With another month, the bully pup learns a lot and is less miserable to leave his dam. Expect to sign an agreement with the breeder that you will have your pup spayed or neutered when they reach the correct age. Medical Records and Certification Every dog breed has some health issues, and even the best quality bulldogs can suffer from many ailments. Minimize the potential for underlying severe health issues by purchasing from a reputable breeder. Breeders with quality dogs care about their reputations and work hard to produce healthy puppies. The breeder can provide those records. A puppy with a historical bloodline of purebreds and champions shows that the line still meets the original bulldog standards and should have fewer health issues.

Pug Exercise Overview Exercising your Pug plays an essential role in long-term health and is a vital part of overall care. While you must take care when exercising your little guy or gal, by no means should you avoid it or be afraid of it. A sedentary Pug is an unhealthy Pug. The key is to find the right balance. The Benefits of Exercising a Pug There are many reasons to keep your Pug active: 1 It helps maintain muscle tone which in turn promotes good posture and proper support surrounding the hips and knees. Since this breed is prone to elbow dysplasia, Legg-Calve-Perthes and hip dysplasia, this is a very relevant benefit. Exercise Restrictions for Pugs Pugs can and should be exercised every day. However, there are some restrictions to keep in mind. You will want to avoid: 1 Excessive exercise when under 10 months old. This is a time of rapid growth and very excessive exercise can affect growth plates, the soft areas at the end of bones where cells continually divide, allowing bones to properly grow as the pup matures into his adult size. Once growth is complete, the plates close. If a puppy is put under too much physical stress, there can be damage to those plates which can lead to malformed or shortened limb s. Normal walking and play are not considered excessive. You will want to avoid lengthy full-out runs or forcing activity when a pup has reached his limit. This breed is prone to bloat. To help prevent this, avoid having your dog run around in the yard or taking a purposeful, brisk walk until one hour has passed after a meal. Pugs, being a brachycephalic breed, have some level of stenotic nares narrow nostrils and elongated palate soft tissue at the back of the root of the mouth partially blocks the windpipe. This can cause noisy breathing and it limits to what extent a Pug can endure physical activity. Heavy breathing is also an indication of heat stress that if not addressed can lead to heat stroke. During an exercise session, breaks should be taken every 15 minutes or so; but, should be halted if a Pug is struggling to catch their breath. When the temperature is soaring and especially if the air is very humid this can exacerbate breathing issues. Activity may need to be scaled back or brought inside. Age to Start Exercising a Pug If you just brought home a new puppy, you may be very eager to start taking your Pug for walks around the neighborhood or head out to the dog park. However, Pug puppies should not be brought out to public places for exercise until all puppy shots have been given. This is typically by the age of 12 to 14 months old. You will want to confirm this with your Pug's veterinarian. This should be a light to moderate cardio that slightly increases heart rate and keeps a Pug's body in motion. This can be greatly extended for Pugs that are healthy and enthusiastic to stay more active than this. With precautions in place, a Pug can go for an hour walk or more and there can be 3 to 4 exercise sessions per day. Exercise frequency and duration can be adjusted as needed. Weather including hot summer days or freezing winter days can affect a Pug's tolerance for outdoor activity. It can help to split up exercise sessions into shorter intervals, for example, four minute walks as opposed to two minute walks. And, as a Pug transitions into the senior years or if there is a develop of hip or joint issues, exercise may need to be scaled back. In most cases, there is never a valid reason to completely stop exercising a Pug since remaining sedentary often leads to a wide range of health issues. Going for walks is the most traditional method of ensuring that a dog meets their exercise requirements and for good reasons. There is always a Point A and a Point B which gives you both a goal and helps ensure proper duration. And, unlike free-running, intensity can be adjusted by you, as you see fit. This is another excellent way to keep a Pug active. This refers to a controlled physical activity session, often with alternating short bouts of cardio and rest. The classic game of fetch fits into this category and is a good choice since most dogs find it to be very enjoyable and it helps strengthen the owner-dog bond. In addition, fetch can be played both indoors and out, making this perfect no matter the weather. Tips for Walking Your Pug By following some easy guidelines, you can take your Pug for walks knowing that you are allowing your dog to reap the benefits of exercise in a safe manner. When exercising a Pug, breathing-related issues must always stay a top priority. And, the accessories that you place on your Pug play a huge role in this. Collars place pressure and tension against the windpipe which can severely impact a Pug's ability to breath. Each pull on the leash or lunge to the side puts compression on already stressed airway structures. Avoid this by using a harness. This distributes tension from the leash onto the shoulders, back, and chest where Pugs have strong skeletal muscles. There are different types of harnesses including step-in and pull-overs, straps and vests. One recommended one is the Puppia Soft B Vest Harness which is an easy step-in design nothing needs to be pulled over the head with an air-mesh fabric that keeps a Pug comfortable and cool, and an easy-close Velcro flap on the back. When you take your Pug for walks, you will want to be in control of the pace and the easiest way to accomplish this is to have your Pug in a heeling position; this means to your immediate left and no further ahead than the extension of your foot. For this, you will hold the handle of the leash in your right hand, allow the leash to cross past your body, and then grip it near your left hip. Using a 6-foot leash or a retractable leash will help you feel comfortable when doing this. For this, you may wish to consider the Flexi Retractable Dog Leash which has a very comfortable grip and a one-handed brake button. Offer a break for rest and hydration at the halfway mark of a short walk and every 15 to 20 minutes on a long walk. This should be done even if your Pug seems to be handling their exercise just fine and there are no signs of overheating. You may wish to bring along a collapsible bowl and a chilled water bottle or an all-in-one option like the Tuff Pupper Portable Water Bottle. Concrete, pavement, and brick can all reach over F degrees during the summertime which can cause burns to the paws. If you cannot hold your palm to the surface for a count of 5, it's too hot for your Pug to walk on. Paw wax see tip 7, ahead , staying in the shade, or rescheduling walks for early morning and later in the evening can help with this; generally taking your Pug out before 10 AM and after 5 PM will help you avoid the hottest parts of the day. Keep your Pug securely in a heel position so you can react to and help with any traction issues. Paw wax see next tip can help with this. On days that the temperature is below freezing, limit the duration of the walk. And, during stormy weather snow or ice storms your dog's safety is more important than that one exercise session, so the walk may need to be put on hold. Paws take a beating when a dog is out and about. Hot walking surfaces, frozen walking surfaces, allergens, irritants, and slippery small gravel or ice surfaces are all possible issues. Applying a paw wax can help with all of these aspects. A good one to use is Musher's Secret Paw Protection Wax ; this absorbs pretty quickly, only has to be applied once every 2 weeks, and does a great job at offering a breathable layer of protection and better traction. The last thing you want to happen is that your Pug tires out once you're at the halfway mark and still need to turn around and cover the same amount of distance to return home. On the first day, go half the distance and see how your Pug did. You can then add on more distance the next time. With your little guy or gal on a harness and in the heeling position previous tip 1 , you can speed up, slow down, go around telephone poles, swerve around bushes, etc. This can be played in many places including your own yard or a park or can be kept inside on days with bad weather as long as you have room in your house. Some dogs naturally know how to play and others need a bit of time to catch on. Here are some tips to keep this a fun and beneficial activity. If this is going to replace a walk, set a timer for 15 to 20 minutes. The more animated you are and the more you let yourself laugh, the more your Pug will want to chase after the fetch toy and enjoying bringing it back to you for another go. Even if your Pug can't catch the ball in the air or is a bit confused about what to do, your encouraging words will keep things moving along. Give praise for 'good tries' and effort that your Pug puts into the game. And, offer a reward treat when the game is complete. A fun fetch toy for outside games is the Chuckit! Flying Squirrel Spinning Toy ; this brightly colored fabric toy does some pretty wild soaring and is easy for a dog to mouth. And, if you have some space in your house like a large room or a long hallway, you can play fetch with your Pug using a toy like the Chuckit! Indoor Roller Dog Toy. There is an optional launcher that shoots the ball for you, if your arm needs a rest. While you do want to keep your Pug moving for at least 15 minutes, it's best to end the game while your little guy or gal is still having fun. This will help your puppy or dog look forward to the next session. If your Pug has a hard time accepting that the game is over and is clamoring at you to continue, you can give one last throw and then offer a reward treat as a sign that the session is truly over. Switching to a new activity like brushing the coat can help your Pug make the transition. Alternative Ways to Keep a Pug Active 1 Dog parks can be a great place for a Pug to move around if he is otherwise reluctant at home. Interacting with other dogs can be motivation to run around and can be a good way to build social skills. You will want to be sure to visit a park that has separate areas for dogs based on size. Never let your Pug into an area with much larger dogs. Keep an eye on your Pug to assess breathing and separate him for breaks and re-hydration as needed. Keeping visits to the park to 1 hour is a good time limit. This is a low-impact exercise that is sometimes used in recovery therapy for dogs being treated for joint issues. This said, since the Pug has a barrel-shaped body, this breed is not the most proficient swimmer. Play it safe by having your Pug wear a canine life vest and staying by their side for close supervision. Be sure to rinse your dog off afterward to make sure chlorine and pool chemicals are washed from the skin and coat. Pugs can go on hikes and explore many places with their humans. If you search for hiking places to bring your Pug, the 3 aspects to focus on are distance, difficulty, and terrain. It's recommended to stick to trails no longer than 2 miles if you plan to loop around , those rated as easy or introductory, and with a terrain of solid, soft, or gently rolling hills avoiding those marked steep or rough. A Final Word Since the Pug breed is prone to weight gain and certain joint issues, exercise is an important part of care that will help keep your dog's body in good shape, maintain important muscle mass, keep the heart healthy, and burn calories. Pugs tend to mimic their owners; if their human is happy to sit around all day, a Pug may be perfectly content to snooze the day away. But, if their human sends out a vibe that engaging in exercise is fun, a Pug is often more than happy to join in. Keep your Pug active while being away of their limitations; it's an important step in extending your Pug's life span to be as long as possible. Did you find this to be helpful? Pugs are a small and charming breed known for their distinctive wrinkled face, short muzzle, and curly tail. They have a long history dating back to ancient China, where they were treasured as companions to Chinese royalty. Pugs have a compact and sturdy build, with an average height of cm and a weight ranging from kg. Their life expectancy is usually between 12 and 15 years. What is the temperament of Pugs like? Pugs have a friendly and affectionate temperament, making them excellent companions and family pets. They are known for their love of human company and thrive on attention and companionship. Pugs are generally good with children and get along well with other pets. They have a fun-loving and playful nature, always ready to entertain and bring joy to their owners. Pugs are known to have a strong bond with their families and can be quite sensitive to their owner's emotions. How much exercise do Pugs need? Pugs have a moderate exercise requirement and should be provided with daily physical activity to keep them fit and healthy. They need approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour of exercise each day, which can be split into multiple short walks or play sessions. It's important to note that Pugs can be prone to overheating due to their short muzzle, so exercise should be done during cooler times of the day and in shaded areas. Be mindful of their breathing and avoid strenuous activities that may cause respiratory distress. Pug puppies have different exercise requirements compared to adult dogs. Their growing bodies and developing joints require caution to avoid injury. It's recommended to provide short and gentle exercise sessions for puppies, focusing on playtime and controlled activities that don't put excessive strain on their joints. Avoid long walks or high-impact activities until they are fully developed, usually around 12 months of age. Do Pugs need a lot of grooming? Pugs have a short, smooth coat that is relatively easy to maintain. They are average shedders and require regular brushing to keep their coat healthy and remove loose hair. A weekly brushing session with a soft bristle brush or grooming mitt is usually sufficient. They should be bathed every months or as recommended by your vet or a professional groomer. Pugs are prone to wrinkles and folds on their face, so it's important to clean and dry these areas regularly to prevent skin irritation or infection. Like any dog, regular tooth brushing with a dog-specific toothpaste twice daily is ideal. Are Pugs easy to train? Pugs are generally intelligent and eager to please, but they can have a stubborn streak, which can make training a bit challenging at times. Positive reinforcement methods, such as rewards and treats, work best when training Pugs. They respond well to praise and gentle guidance. Keep training sessions short, fun, and engaging to maintain their interest. Consistency, patience, and a sense of humour are key when training Pugs. Early socialisation and basic obedience training are important to ensure they grow up to be well-behaved and confident dogs. What do Pugs eat? A balanced and nutritious diet is essential for the overall health and well-being of Pugs. Feed them high-quality dog food that is appropriate for their age, size, and activity level. Puppies should be fed a puppy-specific small dog diet formulated to support their growth and development. Most puppies should be fed times a day until 6 months old, when this is reduced to twice daily. As they mature, they can transition to adult dog food. It's important to monitor their weight and adjust their portion sizes accordingly to prevent obesity, as Pugs can have a tendency to overeat. Consult with your vet for specific dietary recommendations and feeding guidelines for your Pug. Are Pugs healthy? Pugs may be prone to certain health conditions. Some common health concerns in Pugs include: Body Weight Obesity - Abnormal or excessive fat accumulation leading to secondary health concerns. Bones and Joints Elbow Dysplasia - this condition is where there is an issue with how the bones fit together at the elbow joint Hip Dysplasia - a condition where the thigh bone and pelvis do not sit together properly at the hip joint, which can lead to discomfort and arthritis Hemivertebra - one or more deformed vertebrae which can cause spinal cord compression which can lead to pain, weakness or an inability to walk Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease: a hip condition that affects the blood supply to the head of the femur bone, leading to breakdown of the bone, pain and lameness. Skin Atopy - when the immune system overreacts to an allergen and results in skin irritation. Skin fold dermatitis - inflammation, and possible infection of the skin between two skin folds. This list is by no means comprehensive, if you have any concerns about the health of your dog, or if you want to discuss further if a Pug is right for you, consult with your vet. Potential health issues presented are given as a guide only and are not meant to be comprehensive. If you ever have any concerns about your dog's health, contact your local vet. Toy Breed Dogs Breed Guides. If this is your first time owning a small dog like a Pug, you may not know how long you can walk a Pug puppy? These small dogs will love walking right beside you, but they need special attention and care during their walks, unlike other breeds. However, if you like to have fun and play around with your Pug, too, keep the total exercise time from 40 minutes to one hour as recommended by the UK Pug Dog Club and the American Kennel Club. Cute little Pugs, with their funny flat faces, big sparkling eyes, and curly tail, are so fascinating and attractive, but they stay low-key most of the time. They show only short bursts of energy, hence enjoying shorter playtimes and leisure walks rather than brisk marches. It is essential to know that long, fast walks would result in severe breathlessness and even joint problems for your Pug. Avoid Strenuous Walks With A Pug Puppy Long walks, running up and down the stairs, or jumping around excessively is considered a strenuous activity for them. Their activity should be strictly monitored and controlled. After long, high-speed walks, you will most probably find them snorting and short of breath. If you try to walk your puppy too much too fast, they may sit down and refuse to walk. So be prepared to carry them as this breed can have a stubborn streak. Vigorous exercise during this time can negatively affect the soft areas at the end of the bones where the cells continuously divide for the growth of limbs. There should be no walking until at least 1 hour after eating, as this can cause your puppy to suffer from bloats, which is a serious medical condition for pugs. Their stomachs fill with gas, leading to cutting off the blood supply to the stomach. Instead, they will keep struggling to match your pace, ending up tired and breathless. Since pugs do not have a perfect breathing system, they end up in heavy breathing even after a short period of walking. Using a harness while walking can help reduce any stress on the throat area of the pug puppy. This allows them to breathe freely, which can lead to a longer walking duration. Always keep an eye on your Pug, especially when they are outdoors with you. Try to keep them comfortable and cared for. Walk Time and the Effect of Weather Pugs have a short snout which hinders their breathing rate, causing problems in extremely hot weather conditions. So, refrain from taking your puppy out in the heat. Even letting them lie in the sun may cause it to overheat and the breathing issue to aggravate. Since regular activity is required to keep your pup healthy and fit, do not restrict its activity even in summers. Just alter the timings and walk your Pug a little earlier in the morning or late in the evening. Do not let it wander away while walking or playing, as it may run excessively and warm up too much. Pugs do not enjoy rainy weather and moisture either. Here are some tips to make walking your Pug in the rain, easier, especially when they refuse to go. You may prefer to walk your dog in shady, sheltered areas on such days. Winters may also not be favorable for your Pug, but avoiding walks may make your puppy a couch potato. While planning to have a stroll in such weather conditions, simply make sure your puppy has a warm, cozy coat on. Start with giving your pet access to a small open area — a garden at your place can initially be an ideal strolling spot. It is soft for the short limbs of your Pug and gives better practice before moving onto the harder surfaces and pavements. It will stay under your observation in a garden and yet will have the freedom to walk the way it wants. Let your pup play and walk itself first, followed by a lead-walking practice. Moving gradually from a slower to faster pace would lead to building up of the stamina. Setting up a reward system to train your puppy to walk for longer durations of time may prove to be very beneficial. They are fond of your love and affection. Their playful nature makes them great family dogs. This breed is extremely loyal and will bond quickly with its human family, making them a kid-safe breed. Though small in size, they possess an enormous personality. Not only are they fun-loving, but extremely smart, observant, and fast learners too. They tend to learn and develop habits at a very young age. Be sure to check out these Pug training secrets that dog trainers use on all breeds of dogs, even stubborn breeds like Pugs. Final Word A young puppy should walk no more than 20 minutes at one time until they have built up their endurance. Pug Puppies are not ideal dogs for long walks and need exceptional care and attention when taken for a walk. A loving owner would nonetheless find it highly amusing to train their pug puppy for walks- your Pug will make sure to stay at the center of your attention and will never let you feel frustrated or tired! Unlike other dogs, these brachycephalic dogs. She would get all excited when I would get her harness and leash out of the closet. She knew that we were going to go for a walk and when she was younger, I would take her on a daily mile walk. However, it took a while to build up her endurance to be able to walk that much. This breed is NOT built for rigorous exercise and should never go for long-distance runs. They are more active when they are young and become lazy as they become an adult. Here are some tips that you can use to help you make the most of your walks together. Pugs have small necks and are known for their breathing problems. It is not a natural feeling for a dog to be constrained by a leash and their first reaction is to pull. Using a collar can cause them to have breathing issues and this experience will just create a negative experience with walking. Make sure that you find the best harness for your Pug before you attempt to walk them. This will protect their neck if they do start pulling and will also give you more control over them. Walk Them Daily: Just like anything else you want to achieve, it takes time and practice. If you want Fido to enjoy and look forward to the walks, you have to get them into the daily routine. Mindy never had a problem when I walked a semi-fast pace. Your dog should be able to walk beside you without having to jog. You want to maintain a pace that keeps them from stopping and sniffing everything in sight. They will let you know if they need to relieve themselves by pulling on the leash. Walk Them In The Morning: Pugs do not perform well in the heat and can struggle with breathing issues. Make sure that you avoid strenuous exercise during the middle of the day when the temperatures can be too hot. I always made it a point to walk Mindy early in the morning after she had her breakfast. At one point I tried walking her before breakfast, but she always woke up hungry. So instead of changing her feeding schedule, I would just feed her before our walks. We had a portable bowl for Mindy when we took her on picnics or to the dog park. Pugs have respiratory issues and should never be walked in extremely hot temperatures. Make sure you have plenty of fresh water on hand to help keep them cool when walking in hot temperatures. Just in case you need to take a little break. We walked Mindy on a sidewalk, we always made sure that Mindy walked out the inside further from the traffic. Young babies are active and love attention and look forward to playing and exercise. However, as a Pug becomes older, you will notice that they will want to spend more time sleeping and lounging around the home. If your pet is tired from overexertion of playing or just not feeling up for a walk, make sure you respect their wishes. If your canine friend refuses to go for a walk in the rain, you should respect that. Of course, you can use an umbrella to keep them dry while walking. There are plenty of warm sunny days that I could take her for morning walks. Pugs are brachycephalic dogs , this means that they are prone to breathing problems that can be caused by hot temperatures. If you do, make sure that you have plenty of water and try to choose a walking trail that is shaded. I had this happen with Mindy when she was young. I took her hiking because I thought she would enjoy it. When we were around 10 minutes into the hike, she refused to walk. She sat down and there was nothing that I could to get her to walk, except pick her up and carry her. The best thing you can do is take some treats with you on your walks. If they refuse to walk, see if you can use the treats to get them moving again. Maybe they woke up and are suffering from diarrhea and vomiting? If you have pet insurance for your Pug , you can take them to the vet to make sure that nothing is serious. Of course, if they are just having a bad day, make sure they get plenty of rest and skip their daily walk. Avoid Over Exercising Your Pug Walking your dog is a great way to bond with them and get physical exercise for both of you. Yes, you can get your dog accustomed to more exercise with proper training. Conclusion Having a pet is a great way for both of you to get active. Mindy was in my life for 16 years and we had a great time together. Enjoy the time you have with your pet. You May Also Like.

This includes daily combing as well as a trip to the groomer every 6 to 8 weeks, depending on length you prefer. Please check with local groomer for costs. For me the expense is a great trade off for not having fur on clothes, furniture or throughout the cars. All of our deposit spots for are full. But we have also done genetic health testing, as well as OFA certifications on hips, elbows, hearts and eyes of our breeding dogs. As an Amazon Associate I earn a small payment from qualifying purchases but these are all items from my shopping history and I often show in stories. Follow the sign up process, I would suggest listing 20 pounds as the adult weight and check puppy for the age. I believe it will tell you your dog will eat 4 pounds per week. After you get your intro offer you can change the cadence, the default seems to be every 5 weeks. You can also change between organic and value. You can do the entire process on the phone or sign up online and then call them at .I buy poop bags from Amazon and typically get at once because it is so much cheaper than places like Mud Bay. Another potty training tip is that I recommend not letting them have access to too large of an area at a time. I would suggest a baby gate — I like these extra tall walk through gates because they just make life easier. Just an example, if you hang in your living room in the evenings then start by just letting your pup have access to the living room and not the entire house. Small is good, it is comforting and keeps puppy from going potty in their crate. What I like about this style is that they can see everything happening but if you that is too much stimulation and you need to you cover it I suggest something light like a sheet or pillow case, nothing heavy because they get hot. I also send my families home with a snuggle puppy which helps comfort them while they are in the crate and reminds them of snuggling wit their siblings. I know there are some knockoff brands on Amazon but check out the reviews, they seem to have issues with the battery operated heartbeat. For some brands an XS harness is for a 5 pound dog. If you get a puppy from me, I use a comb on my puppies to desensitize them and I also put an electric toothbrush on their feet to get them used to having their feet touched. Here are the tools that I use. My groomer recommended starting with a slicker brush as the first step to combing your dog. After you use the brush you can move to combing them out. I have about 4 of these combs and they are my favorite because you can get all the way to their skin and not just brush the ends of their hair. If there is a mat I need to cut through I have one of these de-matting combs. They are shipped for a dominant right hand but it was easy enough to switch — one side is very sharp so again be careful — watch your fingers butalso be careful combing out your dog with this item. I blow the coat completely dry and with one hand on the dryer and the other on the comb using the dryer makes the comb move through their coat so easily. You are going to go home with some toys but puppies will be teething so they are going to want to chew A LOT. I recommend you have a generous supply of toys! Squeaky toys, stuffed toys, hard toys, and chewy toys! This is important for your puppy, and will make life better for them and you! I do not recommend buying rawhide because I feel it is not a digestible, safe product for dogs but that is just my opinion and stores continue to sell — just do some research. Puppies need supervision with toys and they have a better experience if you actually play with them. They love puzzles and they come in different levels — 8 week old puppies can start with level 1. BEDS: Your puppy is usually going to want to chew up and destroy even their dog bed. The truth is they are absolutely fine sleeping on the hard floor, they do not require a soft bed to feel comfortable. A lot of times a dog bed can make your puppy feel hot. I use freeze dried raw dog food for treats. The product is a little higher price for me to feed multiple dogs as their meal but the love it for treats and the small size is perfect. Our favorite brands are Vital Essentials — I have purchased the mini nibs in duck, rabbit, salmon, beef as well as their minnows.

why is my golden retriever puppy being aggressive - Breeds The link has been copied! Is it possible for a Goldendoodle to get any cuter? Well… Until you see a Red Goldendoodle, that is! We dare you not to hug this pup immediately upon meeting one. Has your interest been piqued? Ours too! What Is the Red Goldendoodle? He tried crossing poodles with Labrador Retrievers to get a dog with the low-shedding coat of a Poodle and the calm intelligence of a Labrador. His cross was a success and the Labradoodle was born. Once people discovered how adorable these crosses were, the craze took off. People began breeding Poodles with all sorts of breeds to create ridiculously cute pups. The Goldendoodle was one of the first to become popular and remains one of the most sought-after doodle dogs. This dog is achieved by crossing a Golden Retriever with a Poodle. Getting the deep red coat of a Red Goldendoodle is a little trickier. Typically, it is bred by adding an Irish Setter to the mix. How Is a Red Goldendoodle Bred? It has to be the right Golden Retriever and the right Poodle, otherwise, the deep rich red color becomes too diluted. Poodles have more variety of colors , so the color you choose here is crucial. You need a darker poodle to help contribute. A lighter-colored poodle could influence the color more toward apricot or gold. Is the Red Goldendoodle Popular? Have you seen a picture of this dog? In fact, it is one of the more sought-after colors. But a red one? Is the Red Goldendoodle Rare? Not necessarily, but it is not as readily available as the gold variety. As mentioned, breeders have to be very selective about breeding to produce this color, which means there are fewer breeders that offer it. You may have to spend a little more time looking around — and get on a couple of waiting lists — to find a Red Goldendoodle puppy. However, it is definitely possible. They are happy, sweet dogs with lots of energy. Personalities will vary somewhat with the individual, but in general, these dogs are fun-loving and happy to participate in anything that means spending time with you. However, as a mixed breed dog, their appearance can vary. Most Red Goldendoodles are large dogs since Golden Retrievers are large and the Standard size Poodle is used in the cross. However, Mini and Toy poodles can also be used, resulting in smaller Red Goldendoodles. Because small ones are rarer, they are also more expensive. There are three types of Red Goldendoodle coats. Straight The hair is mostly straight, easy to comb, and the dog can be quite fluffy. However, this coat texture is more prone to shedding. Wavy The wavy texture is something in between. The hair is slightly curly, somewhat easy to comb, and the dog will generally shed less. Curly This is the most hypoallergenic texture because the dog rarely sheds. However, grooming those tight curls can get tedious and requires constant upkeep. Thus, if you are looking for a specific texture, you have to know what to look for. Puppies with wavy hair on their muzzles will have either wavy or curly adult coats. An experienced breeder can also tell you what their coat pattern will be by examining the hair around their muzzle. Color Variations of the Red Goldendoodle The color of a Red Goldendoodle might seem self-explanatory, but there is some variation. Coat colors can vary from deep dark red like a Field Golden Retriever to the considerably lighter apricot version. Interestingly, the apricot versions are not always considered Red Goldendoodles. It also tends to be more expensive. Furthermore, many dogs change color over time. As they age, their coat lightens, so you should be prepared for the fact that your dog may not always stay the same color. Furthermore, red Goldendoodles are not always a solid color. Many have white markings, particularly on their face and chest. Many Red Goldendoodles sport a full tuxedo pattern, which is white markings on the face and chest in the characteristic shape of a tuxedo. If the Poodle parent contributes the splotchy merle pattern gene , Red Goldendoodles can exhibit this pattern. It may appear in spots or over their entire body. Sable is an interesting color that usually involves black-tipped hairs all over the dog's body. In the case of the Red Sable Goldendoodle, they tend to have a light coat with red hairs spattered all over their body. Red Goldendoodles live about years, offering tons of hugs and cuddles along the way. Because of the influx of new genes, crossbreed dogs tend to be healthy, though they can be prone to the health problems that plague any of their parent breeds. How to Groom a Red Goldendoodle Grooming needs will vary depending on the coat texture your specific dog has. Straight-haired dogs are generally easy to groom, just brush their hair regularly to keep it from getting tangled. The wavy and curly versions get a little more complicated. They need regular brushing to keep their hair from getting matted and tangled. Matted hair around the ears can harbor moisture and easily lead to ear infections. Do Red Goldendoodles Shed a Lot? One of the big draws to any of the doodle dogs is their supposed hypoallergenic qualities and the fact that they shed less. This is true for some individuals, but not all. All dogs shed and that includes Red Goldendoodles. However, their tight curls help keep it from falling out all over your house. Brushing your dog about once a week frequency depends on the individual will clean out shed hairs and keep your dog and house tidy. Twice a year, Red Goldendoodles will shed a little more, just like other dogs. However, the shedding is significantly less than what you would experience with a Golden Retriever, for example. Are those adorable pictures you see online telling the truth? Will your Red Goldendoodle actually look like a teddy bear? We are happy to report that yes! True Red Goldendoodles do tend to look like teddy bears, especially when they are young. Plus, you can have your groomer choose a haircut that will accentuate the teddy bear look and make your adorable dog look even more adorable! Just keep in mind that your Red Goldendoodle will usually lighten over time. As a puppy, he may have the classic deep red color of a teddy bear but as he ages, this may change. Other Goldendoodle Colors Of course, red is only one of the many shades of gorgeous Goldendoodle colors available. Because of their Golden Retriever parents, the typical Goldendoodle is some shade of gold or brown. But because of the wide variety of colors their Poodle parent can contribute, there is a lot of variation. They can be categorized loosely into a few categories including: Cream. As you can see in the photos below, both the red Goldendoodles in our pack Chloe and Ruby had red puppy coats. Also, you can see in the photos that the coat color lightened over time. For our Goldendoodles, the coat color change was very gradual and happened into adulthood. From my research and years of connecting with other Doodle moms, this seems typical of many red Goldendoodles. Coat colors may fade or lighten even through adulthood. Left: Chloe, a red F1B Goldendoodle as a puppy. Right: Chloe as a full-grown adult. I like comparing a Goldendoodle to opening a box of Cracker Jacks. Left: Ruby, a red F1 Goldendoodle as a puppy. Right: Ruby as a full-grown adult. Color changes are gradual. When Chloe was a puppy, I noticed that around five months of age, some white hairs started popping up in her red coat. Over time, her coat lightened from a radiant red to a color I describe as cinnamon red. Some call this graying. I like to call it cinnamon and sugar. Ruby, an F1 Goldendoodle puppy. Red Goldendoodles are so much more than their teddy bear good looks. No matter the coat color, type wavy, curly, or fleece or size mini Goldendoodle or pound lap sitter , Goldendoodle dogs are so much more than their teddy bear good looks. Because they tend to be smart, social, and easily trained, many Goldendoodles become working dogs including therapy dogs or service dogs. Or, take a peek into a day in the life of Harley and Jaxson, two Goldendoodle therapy dogs who comfort patients at a hospital. Many Goldendoodles love exercising, energy burns, adventures, and brain games. Red Goldendoodles, like most Goldendoodles are smart. They require daily exercise and plenty of brain games or mental stimulation. Introducing canine enrichment —giving your dog the opportunity to sniff, chew, play, explore, etc. Typically, Goldendoodles are active dogs and love to play. A Goldendoodle can spark joy in your life. Bringing a Goldendoodle into your home is exciting as well as filled with new responsibilities. The most important things you can do? Give your new family member lots of tender loving care, socialization, time with the family, age-appropriate exercise, positive training, ongoing veterinary care, and your time and attention. Autumn leaves. Red delicious apples. So many amazing things are red…including our dear Goldendoodle dogs. These comical crimson Doodles tend to be quick to learn, eager to fit in with the entire family, and ready to adapt to life with you. Finally, there is one Goldendoodle universal that many parents know. Do you have a red Goldendoodle? Please comment below. It has been updated to include more information about red Goldendoodles. We raise mini goldendoodle and Irish mini goldendoodle puppies. Our miniature goldendoodle puppies are F1 lbs , F1b lbs , or multigen lbs and our mini Irish goldendoodles typically range from lbs, depending on parent size. Our Breeding Mini Golden Puppies has extensive experience raising both standard and mini goldendoodles and labradoodles in the first generation and first generation backcross. We have taken further steps to improve our breeding by introducing multigen mini goldendoodles and mini Irish goldendoodles. Our puppies range in color from light golden to dark red, with Irish mini goldendoodles keeping the darkest red coloring. We no longer raise standard size doodles or labradoodles. Size of Our Puppies Our puppies typically range in size from lbs. We normally get a pound size range within each litter. We consider all our puppies mini goldendoodles since we use the mini size poodle in all our goldendoodle types. Our puppies in the pound range are considered the medium size and puppies in the pound range are miniature size. Many breeders have different definitions for size and some use the terminology "petite" or "toy", which we don't use. We also don't use the smallest size of poodles, which are correctly called toy poodles also referred to as teacup or tiny for the smallest toys. Some of our litters will have a size range that falls within both our classification of miniature and medium sizes, such as a pound range. Our Philosophy We concentrate our program on health, intelligence, social temperaments, and teddy bear appearances for our puppies. Puppies come well socialized in our relaxed rural environment and fit in well with families that have children. We put the most emphasis on our past experience rather than lists of requirements or guidelines set by another breeder or organization. We are not about to conform to a standard that we feel will adversely affect our focus on our doodle puppies and the specific teddy bear appearance, playful disposition, and health we strive for. We also have found most registrations to contribute nothing to the breed, especially our specific focus. We are about 3. Louis, 4. See puppies we have placed in the:. Progressive Retinal Atrophy Mini Goldendoodle Grooming and Hypoallergenicity The exact grooming needs of your miniature Goldendoodle will depend on the coat type they inherit from their parents. Goldendoodles with curly fur will need more grooming. Shedding hairs will get caught in their coat rather than falling around your home. But, this can lead to tangles and knots in their hair. Matted fur is painful for your dog and may need to be shaved off completely. A low shedding, hypoallergenic coat is a major selling point for modern Doodle dogs like the mini Goldendoodle. However, studies have revealed mixed opinions on whether or not hypoallergenic dogs even exist. The allergen that triggers a reaction to dogs is found in their dander, saliva, and sweat, rather than their hair itself. And, individual dogs from the same breed can impact you differently. Implementing a good cleaning routine is a good way to reduce allergens in your home. Spend some time with your chosen Goldendoodle before bringing them home to see if they trigger your allergy symptoms. Mini Goldendoodle Lifespan Lifespan can be difficult to predict in mixed breed dogs. But, by looking at the average lifespan of the purebred parent breeds, we can get a general idea. On average, Golden Retrievers live to 12 years old. Miniature Poodles have a slightly longer average, of just under 14 years. Smaller dogs tend to live longer average lives than large breed dogs. But, studies have also shown that mixed breed dogs live a longer average lifespan than purebred dogs. So, on average, a Goldendoodle should live well into their teens. Particularly if you offer them the best care possible! For an active family with lots of time to dedicate to training and grooming, a mini Goldendoodle can be a great pet. Red mini Doodles can make just as good a pet as any other shade! And, their beautiful fur is bound to receive plenty of compliments. But, this breed is not for everyone. Since they are a mixed breed, mini Goldendoodles can be quite unpredictable. And, despite their smaller size, mini Goldendoodles have very high exercise and mental stimulation needs. Mini Goldendoodles can be happier in smaller homes than the standard variety. You will also need to socialize them from a very young age to prevent aggression and fearfulness. Their small size is not an excuse to slack on training. These social, energetic dogs often need a lot more care than people realise. Finding Red Mini Goldendoodle Puppies Over everything else, your priority should be finding a reputable breeder when searching for a mini red Goldendoodle. Mixed breed dogs like this are very popular, which means the market is rife with unhealthy puppies and disreputable breeders. This includes puppy mills, pet stores, and so on. Choose a breeder who provides evidence of health testing, who provides the best care for their dogs and puppies, and who is very knowledgeable about the mix. Getting a puppy is not something to rush into! Some breeders will specialize in certain colors. So, you might have more success finding a red puppy by looking for breeders that exclusively breed red-toned dogs. But, in other cases, you might have to go on a waiting list for specific colors. Price often reflects popularity in dog breeds. And, mini Goldendoodles are a popular mix! The cost of these puppies will vary depending on demand, coat color, coat type, generation, and so on. For a cheaper option, consider choosing a rescue dog! They will be just as loving as a puppy, and can even have some basic training to save you that little bit of work and time. Apricot vs Red Mini Goldendoodle Red and apricot are two of the most popular colors for the miniature Goldendoodle mix. However, red mini Goldendoodles tend to have darker, more pigmented fur than apricot varieties. The apricot dogs are more golden and less red! But, the label that a breeder puts on them can be down to personal opinion and the popularity of each color. Apricot and red mini Goldendoodles can vary in other features too. Including their hair type, overall appearance and their exact personality. But, this variation is more down to whatever features they inherit from their parents, rather than any links to coat color. The red mini Goldendoodle has a beautiful coat and the same potential traits as the standard Goldendoodle, in a smaller package! This mix needs plenty of exercise, training, and mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. But, in the right home they can make a wonderful companion.
