Life Span Did You Know? The English Cream Golden Retriever is not a separate dog breed from the Golden Retriever ; it is simply a rarer coat color variation. These Golden Retrievers tend to have light white or cream-colored coats instead of honey, golden-brown, or reddish coats. As they are still standard Golden Retrievers, they are recognized by the AKC and other canine organizations and can be registered. An English Cream Golden Retriever has all the same traits as any other Golden Retriever; they are one of the most popular dog breeds and tend to be open, friendly, and make great family pets. One of the facts about Golden Retrievers is that they are considered one of the friendliest dog breeds. As long as they are socialized and trained, Goldens tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. They are even known for being open and friendly with strangers. As one of the kid-friendly dog breeds , Golden Retrievers love attention. These dogs tend to be energetic, full of personality, and are devoted to their families. They also tend to be excitable, which means they can be prone to barking. Training your dog to stop barking early on can help curb this habit and help prevent it from becoming a nuisance. Due to their friendly, gentle nature and intelligence, Goldens can often be found working as service, therapy, or search and rescue dogs. English Cream Golden Retrievers are highly adaptable dogs. Their high energy and exuberance make them better suited for homes with yards where they can run. They can adapt to apartment living, but you will need to dedicate a lot of time every day to ensure they get enough attention, mental stimulation, and exercise. Goldens fare well in most climates. As with any dog breed, they are sensitive to heat and extreme cold. Because they bond so closely with their families and are one of the most affectionate dog breeds , they do not like to spend long periods of time alone. Some potential health concerns to be aware of in an English Cream Golden Retriever can include canine cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy, hip dysplasia, and elbow dysplasia. Good breeding practices reduce the risk of these health issues and make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. The national breed club recommends hip and elbow evaluations, an NCL DNA test, an ophthalmologist evaluation, and a cardiac exam at a minimum. English Cream Golden Retrievers are intelligent and eager to please. This makes them highly trainable dogs that are a good fit for owners of all experience levels. Not only are they one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners , but they also tend to excel at obedience competitions and other dog sports. As one of the smartest dog breeds , Golden Retrievers can get bored easily. Because they pick up things quickly, they can get bored with too much repetition in training. If your dog has mastered basic commands , move on to other activities or more advanced commands. Anything you learn will help and will only strengthen the bond you are building with your puppy. Plus, there are several other benefits of puppy training classes including socialization. English Cream Goldens may have a lighter-colored coat, but they still have the classic longer Golden Retriever coat that will shed a big year-round and heavier as the seasons change. You will want to bathe them as needed and get your Golden professionally groomed a few times a year, especially as the seasons change. Trimming nails once or twice a month keeps them from growing too long. Weekly ear checks, along with careful cleanings as needed, can help prevent ear infections. Daily tooth brushing is ideal to keep tartar buildup at bay. This, plus cleanings at the vet when needed, is good dental care for dogs and can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. Golden Retrievers are known for being high-energy dogs. Like Labrador Retrievers , they also tend to have an extended puppyhood. They do tend to calm down a little as they grow into adulthood, but will still have a lot of energy. Daily walks plus some playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough to keep this dog happy and healthy. Goldens tend to be athletic and versatile dogs. So, once they are done growing and the vet has cleared them for higher-impact activities, you can take them running with you, play frisbee, go hiking, train for dog sports, and more. As one of the most active dog breeds , you will likely run out of energy before they do and they will likely be up for even more activity if you are. An English Cream Golden Retriever generally lives for years on average. Golden Retrievers are one of the dog breeds of famous dogs. Use tab to navigate through the menu items. While both make wonderful family pets, the improved health and longevity of the English Cream Goldens has earned them a special place in our hearts, and we want to give you a chance to enjoy the boundless love and companionship these amazing dogs have to offer. All Golden Retrievers are descended from a line originally bred in Scotland in the late 's, and they come in a spectrum of colors ranging from pale cream to golden red. The other nicknames are used by Americans to differentiate the American Goldens from those bred to conform to the European breed standards. In addition to their distinctive pale cream coat, the European standards typically produce Goldens with a blockier head, slightly shorter frame, and a more mellow temperament than their American counterparts. We love the English Cream Goldens for their striking good looks and gentle, intelligent and eager-to-please disposition. This generally affords them longer, healthier lives and is most likely due to the greater genetic diversity among the European bloodlines. Our emphasis when breeding is on optimal health and temperament of our puppies. European bloodlines provide greater genetic diversity for improved health and longevity. Our golden retrievers and their puppies are raised with love as pets and family members. These pups were used as gun dogs, retrieving games both in water and on land. They were cherished because of their unique soft mouth grip. You may have heard of the golden retriever egg challenge that went viral a few years back. But the truth is, both dogs descended from the same bloodline. Where do all Golden Retrievers come from? During the s, Lord Tweedmouth wanted to create and develop the breed. Still, those with a light golden shade can be listed with the American Kennel Club AKC , which recognizes the breed since .Disposition: What makes the English Cream Golden stand out? English Cream Golden Retrievers have a robust, solid build and broadheads. Their glossy coat is cream-colored, but even the whitest shade would still have gold highlights through their fur. How big do English Cream Golden Retrievers get? It may be surprising to some, but English Cream Goldies are the smallest of all the types of Golden Retrievers. Some may reach the usual size of Golden Retrievers, but males of this breed have an average height of 22 to 24 inches 56 to 61 cm. As with most canines, males are usually larger than females. Female English Cream Golden Retrievers stand at 20 to 22 inches 51 to 56 cm. In general, Golden Retrievers are known for having that puppy-like trait throughout their life, but English Cream Goldens are said to mature faster, especially when a lot of time and attention is placed into training and socialization. These social pupper-flies are great with other dogs and cats — even if introduced later in life. They are a very patient breed and tend to get along with all people and pets. Unfortunately, their social nature makes them susceptible to social anxiety. Like what we mentioned earlier, English Cream Golden Retrievers are highly trainable. With positive reinforcement and a few treats, almost nothing is impossible with this breed. They need socialization and structure but beware of their goofy, playful side. How to care for your English Cream Golden English Cream Golden Retrievers have high maintenance coats that require weekly brushing to avoid matting. Shedding can become worse when blowing their coats during spring and fall. Control the fur frenzy with lint rollers, a vacuum, and grooming tools like a de-shedding brush, comb, and glove. For bathing, this could be done once or twice a month. Ears should be checked and cleaned weekly. Paying attention to eye and ear care can help keep infection at bay. Nail clipping is best done monthly, but it will depend on how active your fido is. Active canines tend to wear their nails down. If not, you can trim them every two weeks or when you hear them clicking against the floor. You can also bring her to the grooming salon for some pampering. Speaking of being active, English Cream Golden Retrievers need at least an hour of exercise a day. You can divide this into a two minute-walk. Although they love the outdoors, you should still mix up her activities to avoid boredom. Their love for water is a great option. Invest in a doggy pool so she can play on her own in your backyard. Mental stimulation is equally important. Giving your fur buddy a Kong with peanut butter or a puzzle toy can entertain and keep her busy. Just take it easy with the doggy snacks because all Golden Retrievers love food! Fruits and vegetables are excellent alternatives. Large breeds are more prone to obesity and bloat. Aside from controlling mealtime, keep your English Cream Golden from gobbling up her food by serving her kibble on a slow feeder. It would be best if you also let her rest for 30 minutes after eating before playing. This also means that English Cream Golden Retrievers are susceptible to the same illnesses that any Goldie will have. Other than that, it will mostly depend on breeding or ancestry, regular check-ups, up-to-date vaccinations, and overall care. Some of the common health issues Golden Retrievers face are hip and elbow dysplasia, Osteochondritis Dissecans, and cardiomyopathy. Are English Cream Golden Retrievers rare? Words like platinum or white are marketing terms used to trick buyers into paying more. Also, keep in mind other costs associated with taking a puppy home for the first time. Another red flag is when they make claims saying their breeding stock and pups are healthier or better than the AKC standard for Goldies. We advise you to visit your local shelter first to see if they have any available English Cream Golden Retriever puppies or adults ready for adoption. Another place to adopt these dogs are through rescue organizations that cater to Golden Retrievers and their mixes. Although they have similarities in appearance, there are a few more key differences between them, which is more than their coat color. English Cream Golden Retrievers. What is an English Cream Golden Retriever? Ah, the English Cream Golden Retriever, also known as the striking ivory white counterpart to the traditional Goldens we all know and love. And with a name like that, it comes as no surprise that these dogs are so sought after! Basically, an English Cream is a subtype of the Golden Retriever breed—more specifically a variation of the British Golden. English Cream Goldens gained their namesake as a result of, well, their elegant pale coats, which can range in color from a delicate cream shade to white. The original Goldens came to be as a result of cross-breeding between various different breeds including: Water Spaniels, Yellow Retrievers, Irish Settlers, and Bloodhounds over several generations. In other words, all Golden Retriever subtypes including the British Golden subtype , are members of the same family, or breed. Oh, and we can thank years of selective breeding for that wonderful and uniquely white coat of theirs, too. Because their temperament is friendly, fun-loving, and obedient. These pups are known for being loyal, intelligent, and attentive. Like all Goldens, they are playful and excitable. In short, their great, balanced temperament makes them a great addition to any home! Oftentimes, cheaper golden retriever puppies can ultimately cost you a LOT more money in the long run because they are more likely to have health issues. Are English Cream Goldens more expensive? What is the difference between English Cream and Golden Retriever? The British Goldens including the English Cream are very similar to their American Golden relatives; however, they do tend to sport slightly lighter colored coats overall and are about 2 inches shorter on average. How big is a full-grown English Cream Golden Retriever? The weight range for these sweet pups can be from pounds for full-grown males, and pounds for full-grown females. Additionally, these babies tend to stand at about inches tall, with males being on the taller end of the spectrum. Do English Cream Goldens shed? Yes, all types and variations of Golden Retrievers shed, and this is entirely normal for the breed. However, it is worth noting that because the English Cream Goldens often have a coat that is slightly thicker and shorter than the American Goldens, some owners claim they shed less overall. Problem solved! Are English Cream Golden Retrievers aggressive? The good news is— no, English Cream Golden Retrievers are not aggressive dogs by nature. In fact, their sweet, calm, and lovable disposition make them a fantastic addition to any family including yours. Are English Cream Goldens more calm? There are always variations in the color of puppies' coats, even in the same litter. Siblings often are seen to have wide variations in their coloring. They may be anywhere from a white color to a dark golden color, for which the breed is best known. It is important to note that the American Kennel Club is not a fan of white or blonde golden retrievers. If there is any light hair on a dog, it is considered a negative and the dog is penalized for the color. It is important to keep this in mind when you see light golden retrievers for sale near me and the price seems to be inflated. Any breeder claiming that a lighter color puppy is rare or valuable is not being honest and you may want to consider a different breeder. Depending on where you are looking for puppies for sale near me golden retriever, it makes a difference. There are different thoughts about the coloring of the coat of goldens depending on the country in which you are purchasing your puppy. The US is much stricter when it comes to the coloring of the coat of a golden retriever. The United Kingdom UK and Canada are more accepting of the variations of the color of the golden retriever. If the coat of the dog is too light or too dark, then the coat of the golden retriever is not ideal or desirable. If the puppy is light, but shows signs that the coloring could get darker as the puppy ages, the AKC may be a little more lenient when it comes to the coloring. Canada is more willing to embrace a lighter shade of golden. Their club, the Golden Retriever Club of Canada, prefers the medium gold color for the dog, however, states that the color can range from a creamy color to a dark copper gold. They do not believe that the dogs should be judged differently based on the shading of the coat. They fall in line with Canada's way of thinking when it comes to a creamy color of the dog's coat. It will accept any variation of shade of a golden as long as it falls between cream and gold. It does not accept color shading that varies from red and mahogany. Why choose MN English Golden? Wondering what these cuddly teddy bear dogs are doing at this stage of puppyhood? Curious what a week-old Goldendoodle looks like? Well, hold on to your Kong puppy binky! So be sure to check out our article on our Goldendoodle at 3 months old , too. And, spoiler alert: Underneath all that fluff, a week-old Goldendoodle puppy is a bundle of love, smarts, energy, and curiosity. What does a Goldendoodle look like at 10 weeks? They each have their own look and personality too. However, most Goldendoodle puppies at this age do have this in common—they look like cuddly teddy bears. At this age, Goldendoodle puppies still have adorable puppy bellies and teddy bear-like body proportions. They have baby faces with floppy ears and bright, inquisitive button-eyes—like teddy bears. Teddy bear? Here are four things you might not know about the physical characteristics of week-old Goldendoodles: 1. We can thank the Goldendoodle parent breeds—the Poodle and the Golden Retriever. This is because a Goldendoodle is not a purebred dog, but a hybrid or cross breed between the Golden Retriever and the Poodle—two very distinct breeds. The Poodle side of the family brings a wide variety of coat colors to the party, as well as a variety of sizes. To a lesser extent, the Golden Retriever brings a variety of golden coat colors to the mix, too. Ten-week-old Goldendoodles can vary significantly in size. As a rule of thumb, size and weight will depend on whether your puppy is a mini Goldendoodle , medium Goldendoodle , or standard Goldendoodle. Plus, just like us humans, every Goldendoodle puppy is a unique individual and growth comes at various times during puppyhood. With this in mind, generally puppies at this age weigh anywhere from around 5 to 30 pounds. Adult Goldendoodle coat types can range from straight to loose wavy to curly to fleece. Again, the two parent breeds—Poodles and Golden Retrievers— get the credit for bringing so much variety in coat type to the Goldendoodle family. The Golden Retriever coat type is straight and the Poodle coat type is curly. Puppy coats may be straight to slightly wavy to slightly curly. Generally, the Goldendoodle puppy coat texture can be described as fine, wispy, fluffy, cottony, and soft. In a couple of months, as the adult coat comes in, mats can quickly sneak up on unsuspecting or first-time Goldendoodle parents. It can even seem like it happens over night! More about that in a few paragraphs. She has less hair on her belly than the rest of her body. Her hair poofs around her head and her body. At this age, our F1 Goldendoodle puppy sheds very minimally. When combing her, there is some hair left in the comb. As an aside, our adult F1B Goldendoodle sheds very minimally—no hair on the couch or on our clothes, but some dust bunnies on the floor. Coat color week-old Goldendoodles can sport coats of many colors. This is because their parent breeds bring a variety of coat colors to the mix. According to the AKC, Poodles coat colors include apricot, brown, red, white, gray, cream, silver, and black. The color variation follows the pattern of the Golden Retriever coat—a lighter belly and darker along the topline back. Parenting a week-old Goldendoodle—helpful tips from a mom At 10 weeks old, I can say that the amount of care and attention a Goldendoodle puppy needs is much like that of caring for a new baby. Your Goldendoodle relies on you for pretty much everything—potty breaks, meals, safety, and heaps of love, comfort, and attention. What to expect at 10 weeks Oh my Goldendoodle! Even at 10 weeks old, Goldendoodle puppies are smart and curious! I think they are like little sponges soaking up every thing in their world! They will explore every nook and cranny—not only with their nose but also by putting things in their mouth too. Like all puppies, they need about 18 hours of sleep a day. At this stage, our family was focused on the bottom of the hierarchy of needs—establishing the basics of potty time, bedtime, and mealtime. And of course, most importantly, we just wanted to love and cuddle and bond with her! And give her lots of positive, positive, positive praise. Here are some things we did to help our puppy adjust to her new home. Maybe these tips will inspire you too. Setting up a puppy safe place in your home Setting up a small, puppy-proofed space in our home was a game changer for us. When we brought our puppy home at 10 weeks old, we thought we had the perfect puppy space all set up. We loved using the Pawland extra wide dog gate across hallways and entries to confine her space and keep her safe. However, we quickly learned that at 10 weeks of age, our puppy needed an even smaller play area. A small play area and chew toys were just right for our Goldendoodle at 10 weeks of age This made it much easier to keep a watchful eye on our pupper and supervise her at all times. For example, we could easily observe when our puppy started to wander away from us, lose interest in toys, or started sniffing the floor. These were all her signs that she needed to go potty! Expect accidents. At our first puppy veterinary visit, our vet explained to us that as a rule of thumb, puppies will need to potty after naps, after meals, at night, after playing, and times in between. Next, here are a few potty training ideas that worked for our puppy. Observe your puppy and watch for potty cues and behaviors. For our Goldendoodle puppy, we noticed that she would wander away from us and start sniffing near the puppy gate when she had to go potty. Also, during the day, we established a routine of taking her to potty after every nap, meal, play time, and then every two hours in between those times. Choose a designated area outdoors for puppy potty training. Also, we always took her out on a leash so that we could ask her to go potty i. More than likely, your puppy is used to sleeping next to puppy siblings, listening to puppy sounds, and feeling the warmth of mom and puppy brothers and sisters. We decided that our new furry family member would be safest in a crate for bedtime. We placed the crate next to the bed so that our puppy could feel close to us—her new pack. Plus, we could comfort her with the sound of our voice or a gentle touch if she needed reassurance. Next, here are some things we tried and that worked for us when helping our Goldendoodle puppy adjust to her new bedtime routine. Crate time when sleepy When we noticed our puppy getting sleepy, we waited until she was comfy and her eyes were closing, and then put her in her kennel. A crate can be a cozy space If she awakened, we reassured her by sitting close to the crate and putting our fingers in the crate. This was enough to make her feel close to her pack again and settle. However, if she continued to stir, at this age we assumed that she had to go potty, and would take her out. Night time potty outings Expect your puppy to have to go potty in the night. Our family decided to let our puppy sleep and, if she woke up, take her out. At 10 weeks, Sadie woke up and had to go out around a. Within a couple weeks, her a. Then she started sleeping until about a. I wondered if the Snuggle Puppy would be a bedtime distraction i. Our Goldendoodle loved it! Snuggle Puppy recently introduced their version of a Doodle Snuggle Puppy. Here are a couple things we did to start setting our puppy up for a lifetime of positive, happy Goldendoodle grooming sessions. Since the puppy hair is so easy to manage at this stage, just getting into the habit and building a positive association around brushing and grooming was job number one. We focused on making sure we were having fun together, and she was happy and comfortable. We let our puppy approach the comb on her own terms not the other way around , and we let her sniff it. And we rewarded her with lots of positive praise. We decided evenings would be the best time for grooming. This was a time when our puppy was sleepy and relaxed. While she was comfortable on the couch, we gently combed the hair. At this age, it literally took just a few minutes. As an aside, for our adult Goldendoodle, we tried a lot of brushes before finally finding the best brush for Goldendoodle grooming. But at 10 weeks, we chose a dog comb as our grooming tool of choice. And let me just say, those Goldendoodle toe beans paw pads are so cute! Then over time, we started placing our favorite dog nail clippers out on the coffee table while combing her hair or massaging her paws. This way, she could become familiar with the dog nail clippers too. Eventually, we gently held her paws and lightly touched the nail clippers to her nails so she could get the idea of nail clipping without us actually clipping the nails. Throughout our mock nail trims, she got lots of praise and sweet talk. At first, we hand fed her rather than using a dog food bowl so that we could use mealtime to bond with her. Also, Sadie had a voracious appetite. Speaking from experience, both of our Doodle dogs have eaten too fast and sometimes the food comes back up. Through sharing our experience, we hope that you have a better idea of what to expect. At 10 weeks of age Goldendoodle puppies are a bundle of love, smarts, energy, and curiosity. Like all puppies, they are also a lot work. But with your time, attention, love, and companionship, they will be eager to please you and want to become a part of your pack. Need supplies for every age and stage of your Goldendoodle? Take a look at our Goldendoodle supplies list. All products in the store have been used and recommended by us and our Doods. However, as your puppy transitions to his forever family and home, socialization is more important than ever now. To help reduce the fear of the unfamiliar as he grows older, your job is to start helping your new companion meet a variety of beings, including babies and children, men, dogs, cats, and birds. It is also a good idea to introduce him to: People of all ages, including kids and older people. People of all appearances, including men and women. Different kinds of attire, including hats, sunglasses, and coats. Unfortunately, I know from experience that if he grows up without meeting kids when he is young, he may never feel comfortable around them as an adult. As a result, they may act out of fear and potentially hurt kids. As such, he may develop irreversible behaviors leading to antisocial behavior, fear, or aggression. Rather, it should just begin before that time. A good rule of thumb is to have puppy meet different people by 12 weeks of age. Expect your puppy to react with fear in different situations, which is a very normal part of puppy development. Offer them a variety of new experiences and reward your puppy for exploring them. By 12 weeks of age or so, they will begin teething. By the end of this month, he should have better control of his bladder and bowels. He may begin to sleep through the night without accidents or potty breaks — yay! Your Dood will need more and more food as he grows. Be sure to feed him times a day right now to support his rapid brain and body development. Before bringing your 2-month old puppy home, find out what food the breeder was feeding him and use that same food as he adjusts to his new home. After a few days, you can start making the switch to a different puppy food if you want. Feed your 2-month old puppy an appropriate amount of food. On the other hand, if he often leaves leftovers in his bowl, reduce how much you give him. Use our feeding calculator if you need and be sure to keep track of his growth using our awesome growth tracker! Related Content. There might be days or even weeks when it seems to regress, but as long as you stay calm and stick to the training schedule and daily routine, your doodle puppy will thrive. Remember, the younger your pup is, the shorter its attention span and the less it understands. A lot of the earliest work involves planting seeds for the future and maintaining that consistent routine. Many goldendoodles respond best to one or more of the following methods: Positive Reinforcement Your number one tool as a puppy parent is positive reinforcement. Scolding and punishment will make it fear you, which might garner very short-term results but will ultimately lead to long-term problems like destructive behavior, biting and excessive barking. Use a mixture of praise and toys as your primary rewards, with food used as big rewards and treats very occasionally. Clicker Training Many puppies respond best to clicker training, and many professionals use it. It combines positive reinforcement with a handheld clicker that you press whenever you reward your pet for following a command or behaving well. Very quickly, it starts associating the click with a reward, until the clicker itself becomes the reward and a treat is no longer required. Animals are territorial by nature, and giving your pup a little island of its own in your home is a great way to prevent unwanted behaviors. Remember, the crate is not a punishment. However, like every breed, they have their character quirks. Below is a list of the main issues doodle owners encounter and how to approach them. Jumping All dogs have the potential to get excited and jump up on people when they meet or greet them, but this can be scary for strangers and children. Teach your doodle puppy that it only gets a reward if it sits when greeted and this behavior will eventually become second nature. Stealing Food Every dog loves to eat. A clicker can be particularly good for this behavior. Mouthing and Biting Biting is natural for dogs, and they might use it as a way to get your attention in addition to it being a sign of aggression. Check out our training program to find out more. Also, check out our Goldendoodle puppy weight calculator — a tool that gives you an idea of how big your puppy may get based on a few factors. About the F1 Goldendoodle The Goldendoodle is a crossbreed that only recently captured the hearts of dog lovers. Both the Golden Retriever and the Standard Poodle are a medium- to large-size breed, thereby creating a medium- to large-size breed in the Standard Goldendoodle. In comparison, F2 Goldendoodles have two F1 parents. Either way, this designer breed is active, a good companion, intelligent, social, easily trainable, and can also make a good guide or therapy dog. Our veterinarian, Dr. Jennifer Coates, emphasizes the importance of keeping puppies lean. The abdomen and waist should show a noticeable tuck when viewed from the side and top of the dog. Work with your veterinarian to figure out the best size for your Goldendoodle as she grows into adulthood. Using roughly 50, healthy dogs as a reference, the Waltham puppy charts show the target range for a healthy growing puppy. Moving lower on the chart could be associated with unhealthy weight loss. What Age do Goldendoodles Stop Growing? A Goldendoodle puppy goes through a typical puppyhood, consisting of multiple developmental stages. Those stages make up the first to second year of life. For instance, a Standard Goldendoodle puppy will, on average, grow at about the same rate as other medium to large dogs like the German Shepherd and Collie. A Medium Goldendoodle may take a couple of more months to reach most of his adult size. A Standard Goldendoodle is a large-size dog and typically takes just over a year to become fully grown. But this is an average and some dogs can take up to 2 years to become full-grown adult dogs. The AKC estimates a large dog who weighs anywhere from 51 to pounds reaches full size at around 18 months old. How big your puppy gets depends on which type of Goldendoodle you have or are going to get — mini, medium, or standard. Across the three types, adult dogs can weigh anywhere from 15 to 90 pounds. Even then, knowing how big your Goldendoodle will get is not exact. For a guide, check out our Goldendoodle weight chart, which breaks down the weight range for each type of Goldendoodle puppy, from 8 weeks old to fully grown. The Miniature Goldendoodle weighs approximately 15 to 30 pounds in adulthood. He stands about 13 to 15 inches high at the shoulders. The Medium Goldendoodle weighs around 30 to 45 pounds in adulthood and stands roughly 15 to 20 inches at the shoulder. The Standard Goldendoodle weighs approximately 45 to 90 pounds in adulthood, and measures about 20 to 24 inches at the shoulders. Coates, advises the numbers are a general gauge. Goldendoodle Puppy Size and Weight Calculator Goldendoodle puppies sport a variety of coat types and colors, never mind sizes. If you want to keep your furniture dog-hair free, check special pet hair removal tools to keep your home tidy. No matter which Goldendoodle graces your life, or might soon, your new puppy is sure to bring you lots of smiles. Take care of your puppy, monitor her growth, and keep close tabs on her health. Refer to our Goldendoodle puppy growth chart to see the average growth rate for puppies 8 weeks old and up. Beginning with the Mini Goldendoodle growth chart and ending with the Standard Goldendoodle growth chart, we provide you with the average weight ranges per month across the three different-size Goldendoodles, for males and females. For instance, a 3-month-old Miniature Goldendoodle puppy typically weighs between 6 and 12 pounds, while a 3-month-old Medium Goldendoodle puppy weighs between 12 and 18 pounds. Also included in the chart is the average height for the full-size Miniature, Medium, and Standard Goldendoodle. You can also use our puppy size predictor to find out how big your Goldendoodle might get as an adult. Predicting the mature size of a puppy is by no means an exact science, especially with a hybrid breed like the goldendoodle. How big will my goldendoodle puppy be? From birth until the gotchya day, puppies have fluctuated back and forth in terms of who weighs the most. Even though adult weight is a bit of a guess for a young puppy, expect mini goldendoodles to weigh 4lbs-9lbs at 8 weeks of age. A medium puppy and standard puppy may both weigh 9lbs at 8 weeks old, but the standard puppy with gain weight at a quicker rate than the medium. Like most dog breeds, goldendoodles generally do the majority of their growing in the first six months of life. In fact, many mini goldendoodle puppies reach half of their adult weight by four months. Standard goldendoodles may take a month or so longer to reach that halfway mark. The larger the dog, the longer growing takes. For mini goldendoodles, expect the weight to start leveling off between months of age. Standard goldendoodles, like other large dog breeds, will grow for a longer period of time. While this rule may work for many standards, it is not accurate with smaller-sized goldendoodles who finish growing at a younger age. When will my goldendoodle stop growing? Dogs can finish growing anywhere between years of age, but generally reach their maximum height by a year of age and spend the remaining months filling out. This means your dog might hit a growth spurt right after her first birthday — she might not get any taller but she could thicken up. Golden retrievers grow at a slower rate in terms of height than standard poodles, but fill out more quickly. Golden retrievers tend to finish growing and filling out between months while standard poodles can take up to 2 years to accomplish the same. Established breeds generally reproduce naturally, whereas first-generation mini goldendoodles require artificial insemination. Subsequent generations of hybrid breeds i. F1b, F2b, etc. F1b goldendoodles can potentially have a slightly more predictable size range if the parents are similar sizes. Our 19lb F1 goldendoodle and 24lb poodle produce F1b mini goldendoodle puppies ranging in weight from lbs as adults. History The Boxer derives from two central European breeds of dog that no longer exist: the larger Danziger Bullenbeiser and smaller Brabenter Bullenbeiser. Bullenbeiser means bull-biter, and these dogs were used to chase large game through the forest. This required a strong but agile dog with a broad powerful jaw and a recessed nose. In England, the Bulldog was the favored breed for the sport, whereas in Germany large mastiff-type dogs were used. Around the s, German hunters began a concerted effort to create a new breed, crossing their Bullenbeisers with mastiff-type dogs for size, terriers for tenacity, and, finally, Bulldogs. The result was a tough agile dog with a streamlined body and strong grip. By , an entirely new breed, the Boxer, had been established. Although the exact origin of the name Boxer is obscure, it may have been derived from the German Boxl. The Boxer was one of the first breeds to be employed as a police and military dog in Germany. By , the breed had become established as a general utility dog, family pet, and even show dog. The AKC recognized the breed soon after, but only in the s did the breed begin its steady rise to the top of the popularity charts, eventually peaking as the fourth most popular breed in America. Related Content. Life Span Did You Know? The Boxer is one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. It has been recognized by the AKC since .Although the Boxer dog breed originated in Germany, their ancient ancestry can be traced back to the Assyrian empire war dogs of BC. The modern Boxer breed we know and love today was originally developed in Germany in the late s. English-bred Bulldogs and the Bullenbesiier were crossed to create an energetic and agile hunting dog to chase wild game. The Boxer is a popular family companion and a versatile working dog. As a member of the Working Group, Boxers can be found competing in dog sports like agility, obedience, and herding. They also make great service and assistance dogs, as well as therapy dogs, and can be found working as search and rescue dogs, drug detection dogs, police dogs, and military dogs. The Boxer is a muscular and energetic dog that tends to have a happy, friendly disposition. They bond closely with their families and tend to get along well with children and other dogs. They can even do well with other pets despite their high prey drive if they are socialized and trained with them. As long as they are well-socialized, Boxers are generally upbeat, playful, and friendly. Although they have a natural instinct to protect their family from unwanted visitors, they do tend to warm up once introduced and are happy to make a new friend. They can be prone to barking a lot if you do not work on socialization and training your dog to stop barking early on. Boxers can be highly adaptable dogs. Although they have a lot of energy and are better suited to homes with yards where they can run, they can adapt to apartment living as long as they get the daily exercise, attention, and mental stimulation they need. As with any non-arctic dog breed, they are sensitive to very cold temperatures. Boxers are also a brachycephalic breed, which means they are even more sensitive to heat than other dogs. A Boxer is also one of the most affectionate dog breeds. Because they bond so closely with their families and get bored easily, they should not be left alone for long periods of time. Potential health conditions to be aware of in a Boxer include hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy, thyroid issues , and heart conditions like aortic stenosis and cardiomyopathy. Good breeding practices make a big difference and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking the breeder about the health and genetic history of the parents and about any health tests that have been done. Boxers are intelligent dogs that are eager to please their owners. Despite their energetic personality, they are one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners and are highly trainable dogs. They tend to excel at almost any task put before them! Because of their open, friendly nature and high energy, they have a tendency to jump up at people in excitement and playfulness. Since they grow into powerful dogs, you will want to make sure you train your dog not to jump up. Boxers have smooth and short coats that will shed a little year-round and require minimal grooming. A brush-down once or twice a week and the occasional bath as needed will keep their short coat healthy and looking great. Nail trims once or twice a month are usually enough to keep nails from growing too long. Checking ears weekly and carefully cleaning as needed can help prevent ear infections. Checking and wiping their facial wrinkles weekly or a few times a week if your dog is prone to getting into things can help keep their wrinkles clean and free of irritation. Dental diseases, like gum disease, are the most common health issues in older dogs because dental care is often overlooked; and, it can lead to other serious health issues. Brushing daily, plus cleanings at the vet when needed, is ideal. The Boxer is a high-energy dog breed that needs plenty of daily exercise to stay happy and healthy. Due to their high prey drive and urge to chase, they should only be let off-leash in secure areas. Boxers tend to get bored with repetition, are excellent problem solvers, and are naturally exuberant. A fully-grown Boxer usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs pounds. Boxers generally live years on average. In Germany, the Boxer was one of the first dog breeds chosen for police training. Featured Boxer Article. Ready for their homes last week of September. Animals have always been one of my greatest loves and I feel blessed to have been part of the dog world for most of my life. My work with dogs eventually led me to become a breeder, raising English Labradors of the highest caliber, all from champion lines and bred for the best possible health and temperament. It was a wonderful venture, and now I am applying all that I have learned to breeding what I believe are some of the healthiest, happiest, and most beautiful Labradoodles anywhere. My interest in the breed was sparked when I heard of their hypoallergenic qualities a few years ago, at a time when my own grandson was having a hard time dealing with his allergies. Thus began my quest to acquire the best F1 foundation dog, first generation Labradoodle I could find. I wanted one that could measure up to the same standards as my Labradors, with thoroughly health-tested parents and grandparents and a gentle, loving, and trainable temperament. After a year of doing my homework I bought a gorgeous F1 from a breeder who I thought had incredible dogs, and introduced her into my home. We were thrilled.I put my Labs into guardian homes and only had my F1 at home. I was sold on Labradoodles! No sneezing! Not only was my grandson not allergic, the dog herself was amazingly smart, kind, gentle and athletic. We could play all day and when it was time to come home and chill out she could switch gears effortlessly. I continued my experiment and had every test done on her required by the Goldendoodle-Labradoodle Premium Breeders List of which we are now a proud member , and found she passed every tests with flying colors, in fact, with some of the best hip scores Tufts University had ever seen. That piece of advice convinced me to follow the path I've been on ever since, and resulted in the birth of Tango Wool Labradoodles. My dogs live in the house with me or outside in our beautiful fenced-in backyard, using the kennel actually a mini-apartment inside the main house only occasionally if I need to be away for the day. Some of my dogs are also placed in Guardian Homes where they get plenty of love and attention, only coming back to Tango Wool to have their puppies. Tango Wool is a small operation, and it's going to stay that way.I intend to continue to hike, swim, kayak, and love my dogs! Thanks for visiting! We raise high-quality Mini Labradoodles as well as a few other breeds. We also have partnered up with several other reputable breeders that raise mini labradoodle pups that meet our strict genetic criteria and testing. The father is a Mini Poodle and the mother is an F1 Labradoodle. The F1B Minature Labradoodles usually have soft hair that is usually wavy or curly. Thes puppies are considered semi-hypoallergenic since they shed minimally. These puppies can be a good fit if a person that has mild pet allergies. Once F1B Mini Labradoodles reach 6 months old they require to be groomed once every 8 weeks or so to keep their fur healthy and to stop matting. Adult F1B Mini labradoodle dogs range in size from 14 inches in height and pounds in weight. The average life span is typically years of age. The F1BB puppies usually have curlier coats and will be totally hypoallergenic. Once the F1BB pup is 6 months they will need regular grooming every 6 to 8 weeks. F1BB Puppies are usually slightly smaller than F1B puppies and range from 12 inches in height and pounds in weight. I pretty much changed my mind and wanted her immediately. She was introduced to a 6 year old cocker spaniel with and IVDD condition and they became best friends. Great Temperament, Incredibly smart and absolutely beautiful addition to my family. Mike has been following up since I got her checking to see if I had any issues. His training packet was detailed and if you follow the crate training and feeding regiment you will have no problems. Angelica I brought home an F2 labradoodle from here. My pups has already learned several commands within a few weeks of having him. The breeder has plenty of space for the pups and you can tell that there is a lot of care put into the environment. My dog has a great temperament and deals with people well. Upon the first meeting my pups was excited to greet people you can tell he had been socialized well. Mike does well with communication and answers any questions. Highly recommended! Javier Sanchez Got my black lab from Mike trained. He is very good and is comfortable with a crate, walking and great temperament. Overall an awesome dog from a great breeder! Maura Eaton My 12 year old son did all the research on Mike and his company. He had 5 star reviews across the board. Once we saw the picture of Zoey, a Chocolate Labradoodle, we knew we had to meet her. Mike's business is clean, the dogs are all loved by him and well trained. Zoey was Stage 1 trained. This is my first dog as an adult and Mike was excellent in providing advice and recommendations. After we adopted Zoey, Mike would periodically check-in on how Zoey was adjusting to her new family and home. As you can see in the pictures, she is very happy. Mike knew her personality well - smart, sweet and social. A perfect fit and addition to our family. He worked on training with the puppy before we brought him home, which was a big help in the adjustment! I would recommend Mike to anyone looking for a labradoodle puppy. Our puppy has been the best addition to our family and we have enjoyed working with Mike. John Schmadeke We were looking for a labradoodle puppy from a reputable and experienced breeder. Mike was super helpful, and we really appreciated that he cared so much about things like genetics and DNA testing for the dogs. Mike has always been available to answer our questions and to give advice. Tom Riniker We found Mike to be very professional, knowledgeable, and helpful when we purchased a puppy from him. His kennels are clean and organized, and his puppies are well cared for. He really loves his career and it shows! He has followed up with us on numerous occasions regarding the health and well-being of our puppy, and I always know I can reach him if I have questions. Thanks for everything, Mike! Yunhua Chen I have bought a stage 2 F1 labradoodle from Mike. His name is Zen, and just like his name, he is a well-behaved and well-trained little man. He only cried about 15 - 30 minutes during the first few nights and later he was sound asleep. I highly recommend Mike as a breeder because not only he deeply cares about the dogs, but also he has the expertise to make the dog the perfect match for you. Michelle Balchunas Mike was absolutely wonderful to deal with and very helpful with adding a new puppy to our family. If you are looking for a lab to add to your family we would highly recommend working with Mike. Charles Arnold Mike was a great help with our new puppy, Archie. Great experience… and a great dog. Junie is gentle, kind and very loving. She's also extremely athletic and smart. Working with Mike was a very smooth process and his "dog siting" service has proved helpful as I do travel on occasion. Having someone I could trust to care for Junie is super helpful. Mike James I recently had the fortunate privilege of working with Mike to find my next pup. For multiple reasons, the breed is perfect for me - the temperament, lifestyle often on the water , and hypoallergenic fits a tough lifestyle. I without hesitation recommend you work with Mike if you are looking for an amazing pup and great support network. Charlie is so gentle. He was just outside getting petted by his fan club, the neighbors. He licks. I got him the week of July 4th he was outside during that noise. He looks at noise. One of his other puppies was the same way, gentle. Day one he knew the trail through the woods back to our house. Charlie is a beautiful Chocolate lab with the softest hair. I got him at 16 weeks. You have no idea how helpful that is. Of course you want a healthy dog. Took the shots like a champ. The Vet remarked how firm his joints were. Yes he lets you brush his teeth! He goes to the door when he has to go. Another reason I wanted a 16 week pup. Peanut butter to continue gentle licks on my fingers. He always gets small chicken or liver for COME. You should see him come. Is Charlie gentle because some hunting dogs have a gentle mouth or is he gentle because Mike treated him right? Oh do exactly as Mike says on the take home instructions, he knows his dogs! Highly recommend! We brought our pup home with all the documentation of his superior genetics. Mike also sends several handouts which help prepare you for puppy ownership and ensure a smooth transition for your pup to his new home! In addition to his exceptional breeding he is exceptionally well-trained. We opted for a stage 2 puppy and not only does he sit, lay down, stay, he has an incredibly calm demeanor and his additional exposure to other dogs was also incredible. He is so well-tempered and well-behaved due to his additional training. We are so happy and in love with our sweet boy! Brent Viditz-Ward We were looking for a chocolate lab puppy for a long time from a reputable breeder and our experience with Mike was wonderful. He took time to get to know us and make sure that the dog was going to a good home and is always available to answer questions, give advice, etc. I highly recommend Mike and his puppies! M Fowkes Mike is a fantastic breeder. We got an F1 puppy from Mike. She is a sweet beautiful girl. Before she was born Mike knew what the puppies would look like generally, and was really easy to communicate with. He is very responsive when I had a lot of questions. He is like that even now that my puppy is 4 months old…available to answer questions and be supportive. Josie Palma-Aurelio We stumbled on this website when we were looking for our next fur baby. All the reviews speak truthful about Mike. He calls us to check on Nala for updates and gives us pointers on how to take care of her. Nala is such a lovable puppy and we are so happy to have her. We highly recommend! Juan Tellez Mike was a great helping my family and puppy get adjusted to our home. You can tell Mike has a lot of dedication and love towards his dogs. Snoop has been a great addition to our family! We are first time pet owners and Mike handheld us through the entire adoption process. His reference material, responsiveness and his genuine care for the puppies has helped us navigate the critical period of 12 weeks smoothly. The puppy is super smart outwitted me in a game of hide n seek when he was 10 weeks old! He is a bundle of joy! We are first time pet owners and had a lot of questions! He is always enthusiastic in answering any questions we have and supporting us before and after getting the pup! He cares about his dogs and pups and it shows in the research he has done and the knowledge he has about them! He has a lot of information on his website about the breed, food, toys and snacks! He also gives a couple of handouts when we book a pup with him and some when we take them home! Those helped a lot in the preparation for our pup! When you take them home, he also gives you details about the breed, vaccination records, and DNA testing done for the litter! Our girl, Shuri, is very energetic and curious! She does really well when we train her and has already learnt so much! For anyone looking for a labradoodle, Mike is the best! Jocelyn I highly recommend Mike. We are first time dog owners and he made the process so easy for us. Our labradoodle has made an excellent addition to our family! If you click and purchase, we may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. Fortunately, Massachusetts has many great breeders that do their job with the purest intentions. However, not all of the breeders strive for the same quality and ethical breeding practices. To achieve this, they conduct extensive health and genetic testing to minimize the risk of the puppies inheriting any serious genetic conditions. That being said, ethical breeders also provide at least a two-year health guarantee that covers any major and life altering genetic conditions that the breeding dogs have been tested for. All of those organizations are focused on ethical breeding practices and require their member breeders to adhere to their highest health testing standards. Additionally, if any of your friends, family members, or neighbors has recently adopted a Labradoodle, reach out and ask about their own experiences with Labradoodle breeders in Massachusetts. They breed both American and Australian Labradoodles in all sizes. Tango Wool Labradoodles is a small breeder and all of their pups are home-raised. Most of their breeding dogs live with loving guardian families so that the breeder has plenty of time to focus on each puppy during their first 8 weeks. What Makes This Breeder Unique?

On your first visit to the vet, the vet will suggest a range of tests and health screenings for your dog. This will include the basics such as physical examination, fecal sample tests, vaccines and parasite prevention treatments. The vet will request further testing and schedule follow-up visits based on the test results. Ideally, a large breed dog like the English Cream Retriever is ready for sterilization when it is closer to 12 months of age. Some veterinary clinics will perform the procedure for a lower cost without any post-op care. So be mindful of what you choose. Note that spaying or neutering your dog is an optional cost. So you can choose to do it when you want or not do it all. But performing this surgery can prevent any reproductive-related issues from developing. Veterinary Care During the Adult Years Visiting the vet during the first year to ensure your puppy is alright and returning to the vet only when your dog gets sick again is not how proper veterinary care works. You have to commit your time and finance to veterinary care. This will ensure your dog is maintained in a healthy state. For an average dog in good health condition, the vet will recommend around follow-up visits throughout the year. These visits will cover the basics like physical examinations, vaccine updates and any required blood work. Depending on the findings, your vet may request further testing if required. Pet Insurance Pet insurance is one of the most essential investments you make for your pet. Pet insurance will cover major medical bills due to emergencies and expensive medical procedures. Many companies offer affordable and extensive plans for accident and illness coverage. Some even extend to complete health coverage which will cost much heavier. No matter what breed your dog is. Grooming Cost English Cream retrievers are easy to groom dogs. Every months, it is recommended that you get a professional grooming session to trim your Retrievers coat at the ears, feet, neck and tail to keep them smart. Training Cost English Cream retrievers are sociable and friendly dogs who are relatively easy to train. Although they have a friendly nature, we recommend professional training sessions for house manners, potty training, basic behavior and command training during the early stages. English Cream Retrievers rarely need private sessions. They are ideal for dogs who lack socialization around other dogs. Other Potential Costs Apart from the basic costs listed above, it would be best if you were also prepared to face additional costs in raising your English Cream Retriever. You may not necessarily be in a situation where you have to incur some of these expenses. But at the same time, some of these costs are unavoidable in certain circumstances. Microchip Microchipping your dog comes in super handy if your dog happens to get lost. When your dog is found and returned to a shelter, a vet can easily identify the owner using the microchip scanner. Dog License A dog license serves a similar purpose as a microchip. Dog Walking Your English Cream retriever will definitely benefit from exercise as they are energetic and playful dogs. So on days, you cannot take your dog for a walk, you can hire a dog walker. If you expect to use this service in the long run, you can multiply and add the respective cost to the annual basic total cost. Traveling If you want your dog to accompany you on your travels, there are options for that too. Many airlines, train companies and hotels do allow the facility of accommodating your pet with you. But this will no doubt come at a hefty price. So check ahead of time and plan your travels accordingly. Training tools dog owners must have for their dogs:. One or both of this puppy's parents have undergone genetic testing. One or both of this puppy's parents are hip certified. One or both of this puppy's parents is OFA Heart certified. This puppy has had early neurological stimulation exercises. Size: inches tall and lbs— so essentially a very large Teddy bear. Lifespan: of the best years of your life! Energy Level: Active Coat: Thick, silky, and luxurious. Shedding: Moderately heavy. Hypoallergenic: Unfortunately, English Cream Goldens are not hypoallergenic. Galen has been connecting quality Golden Retriever breeders with loving families since and is the founder of My Golden Retriever Puppies. He and his wife have four children and love spending time together, traveling lived oversees for 4 years , enjoying the outdoors and connecting Golden families. Be the first to know when we have new puppies! All Rights Reserved. One or both of this puppy's parents have undergone genetic testing. One or both of this puppy's parents are hip certified. One or both of this puppy's parents is OFA Heart certified. This puppy has had early neurological stimulation exercises. It is also important to understand there are different types of golden retrievers which may affect pricing. For example, if you decide to choose the lowest golden retriever cost option, those puppies almost never have the necessary 3rd-party assurances or veterinarian procedures like dewormings, vaccinations, health-tested parents, or a thorough health checkup. These missing costs and services will be your responsibility, making the total cost ultimately the same. Not to mention the added stress on you these extra expenses and issues create! Adopting vs. Please note that depending on the shelter, you may have to pay additional costs for your Golden certain shots and procedures. Depending on if the golden retriever is a boy or a girl may affect the price as well. Some male vs female golden retriever differences may make you prefer one over the other. This will ultimately save you time and money on your golden retriever price because breeders often pay lower veterinary rates than individuals do. Distemper, for example, is a highly contagious disease that attacks the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and nervous systems of dogs. Unfortunately, there is no cure — just a lot of expenses and stress which really adds to the overall cost of your Golden Retriever puppy. It is wise to ask your vet for guidance on this decision. Talk with your vet about the procedure, when you should get it done, and how much it might cost. Dental Care for Your Golden Retriever Golden Retrievers, like many dogs, can be prone to dental issues such as plaque buildup, gum disease, and tooth decay. These cleanings typically involve scaling, polishing, and potentially extractions if necessary. Some insurance providers offer optional dental coverage as an add-on or as part of more comprehensive plans. If dental coverage is included in the policy, it typically covers a portion of the costs associated with dental cleanings, extractions, and other necessary dental treatments. This typically includes services such as bathing, brushing, trimming, nail clipping, ear cleaning, and sometimes additional services like de-shedding or dematting. Some groomers may offer package deals or discounts for regular appointments or bundled services. This monthly expense may seem like an additional cost, but it can be a worthwhile investment when considering the potential savings on veterinary bills for treatments, surgeries, and medications. By having pet insurance in place, you can ensure that your Golden Retriever receives the necessary care without straining your finances in the event of unexpected health issues. Puppy Training and Socialization Classes Attending puppy training and socialization classes is highly recommended for the comprehensive development of your Golden puppy. These classes provide structured learning environments, social interaction, and essential obedience training. By enrolling your Golden Retriever puppy in these classes, you ensure they receive the necessary foundation for good behavior, social skills, and overall well-being. The cost for food will depend on the size, age, and activity level of your companion. Fortunately, the cheaper brands of dog food can be just as good as the more premium brands as long as they meet the standards of AAFCO and are made with minimal processing. When making your decision, make sure to avoid artificial ingredients and preservatives where you can, since they could cause health problems for your dog. As the name suggests, these dogs are more popular in the UK. Because of their rarity and the specificity of the bloodline, these dogs are very expensive. There are some outliers on either end of this range. This is far more than most other breeds costs. This covers everything, including food, grooming, preventative vet care, and microchipping. Optional things are not included, like pet insurance and dog walking. Your costs can vary widely depending on where you get your dog from. When you compare this to a breeder that charges thousands, the huge savings are pretty obvious. Occasionally, you may be able to find these dogs advertised on places like Craigslist. However, there are many problems with going this route. However, they may occasionally. Generally, dogs on Craigslist are not produced by breeders; this causes a variety of different problems. Firstly, the adult dogs are usually not health tested, which means that they may pass on a variety of different conditions to their puppies. Secondly, most of the puppies do not receive the proper health care. As you might imagine, this can be an obvious problem. Some of these puppies are produced by puppy mills. These focus on producing as many puppies as possible or as cheaply as possible. Typically, this translates into taking many different shortcuts, such as not giving the dogs any medical care and spending very little time socializing with them. As you might imagine, puppies from these breeders are not particularly healthy or well-behaved. Most have never been in a home before their adoption. Some puppy mills produce a number of different breeds, so you might even end up with a mix instead of a pure-bred English Cream Retriever. Your puppy might be a Goldendoodle or similar cross. Getting a puppy from a rescue These dogs are much too rare to be common at rescues. There is simply no other place to find them. The majority of these breeders have contracts with buyers that require them to return the dog if they can no longer take care of it. Therefore, the dogs never end up in an animal shelter. The cost is sometimes based on the amount of vet care that particular dog had to receive. Puppies are usually more expensive than adults, as they tend to be adopted faster. Getting a puppy from a breeder While getting a puppy from a breeder can be expensive, this is mostly because you get a lot with your purchase of the puppy. Most puppies receive their first vaccinations and vet exam before being adopted. Quite a few puppies also come with some basic training before they are adopted out. This may include house training and simple commands. Some breeders do this themselves, while others hire a trainer. All of these extras add to the cost of your puppy. You may end up spending less on these puppies overall when you factor in all of these savings. Plus, many breeders also get their dogs health tested. This lowers the chance that an adult dog will pass on genetic issues to their puppies, resulting in a healthier litter. Costs of health tests One of the main reasons puppies from breeders are so expensive is due to health testing. A big factor in the cost is geographical location, as well as whether or not the dog needs sedation. This issue is common in all large dog breeds, especially retrievers. Flat-Coated Retrievers and Labradors also often show hip dysplasia. Many breeders also do testing for progressive retinal atrophy. This causes the eye to break down over time, which eventually leads to blindness. It simply depends on how the disease progresses. Other eye tests may be done as well, depending on the particular breeder. Their costs are very similar to other Golden Retrievers. A large portion of this will be the supplies your puppy needs when you bring them home, such as a dog bed and bowl. Of course, puppies also need quite a bit of vet care and training as well. All preventative vet care is included in this estimate, as is food, toys, grooming, and other regular costs. This includes all the preventative care your dog will need, like a physical exam, vaccinations, and basic blood tests. Puppies will need to visit the vet more often during their first year to receive all of their vaccinations. The first visit is usually around eight weeks and may be covered by your breeder. If this is the case, you can likely expect to pay on the lower end of the range for vet bills. Adults will only need one preventative appointment a year, but more work will need to be done at this single appointment. Therefore, you probably will pay about the same for adults and puppies. Often, vets will recommend certain diagnostic tests on older adults to catch potential health problems early. Food and toys Because these pups grow to be large dogs , they will require more food. Older dogs are simply larger and eat more, hence the increased cost as your dog ages. This covers high-quality food with plenty of meat and protein. You can save a bit of money by purchasing lower-quality foods, but this is not recommended. Just like people, dogs are what they eat. Because these dogs are quite active, you will be spending quite a bit on toys. While you may save a little bit upfront by purchasing lower-quality toys, your dog will typically be able to tear those up quite quickly. Training costs While these dogs are easy to train, we still recommend taking them to a professional — at least in the beginning. This is likely all that your dog needs. This breed rarely needs private lessons. Private lessons are great for dogs that cannot be around other canines due to a lack of socialization. However, the aim is always to get them into a group class. This breed is very sociable, so they usually have no problem being around other dogs. We highly recommend skipping the private classes, therefore. This assumes your dog is okay being around other canines, of course. Factors influencing the price These dogs vary a bit in pricing. They are all quite expensive, but some are more expensive than others. If a dog is more expensive, it is likely because they have more champions in their bloodline and will perform better in the show ring. Puppies with a direct lineage back to England are also usually more expensive. The amount of training and socialization a puppy also receives matters. Some breeders will charge a few thousand dollars extra for training — which you may or may not be able to opt-out of. All breeders socialize their puppies within their homes. But some will provide more socialization than others. Medical expenses also play a role. If the puppy has already received their first vaccinations, then you will likely pay extra for that puppy. However, you will not have to pay for these vaccinations, so you may end up spending less in the long run. Health testing can be expensive, so these puppies will likely be more expensive as well. Price considerations These dogs can be extremely expensive to adopt. For this reason, your main budgeting will be towards the actual price of a puppy. However, you should also budget appropriately for the annual price of a puppy. The bottom line Due to their rarity, this breed is very expensive to adopt. This includes annual costs and one-time purchases for the puppy. This will cost you a few more thousand dollars a year. Be sure you budget appropriately for this breed before you decide to purchase one. Author: Kristin Kristin was born in Tennessee and currently lives there with her husband and children. Are White German Shepherds Rare? There are historical reasons for that. As mentioned earlier, the white coat gene is recessive in GSDs. That made it hard for breeders to produce litters of all White German puppies. Over time, whiteness became an undesirable trait in the GSD. Any surviving White GSDs were summarily slaughtered. In the s, the American Kennel Club disallowed the participation of American White Shepherds in conformation shows. Twenty years later, the Canadian Kennel Club would do the same thing. Despite or possibly because of the restrictions on white GSDs, breeders kept the dog alive. They both have erect ears, a square-cut jaw, a curvy yet athletic body, and a long brush-like tail. Males stand between 24 to 26 inches at the shoulder, while females are slightly smaller at 22 to 24 inches. Eye color is usually dark brown but can be anywhere between light amber to dark mahogany. White GSDs can be long-haired or short-haired. Since they have different hair lengths, they each have their unique grooming requirements. At the very least, a White German Shepherd should be able to exercise for two hours a day. Anything that a German Shepherd can do, he can do too. And hey, you have the added bonus of turning heads whenever this dog walks down the street. When properly socialized, the White German Shepherd makes for a loyal and protective companion. In front of strangers, he can be wary. But in front of his family, he can be a total sweetheart. See, the White German Shepherd is a pack animal. Like all pack animals, he has a tendency to look to a pack leader i. Teach him the house rules once he reaches the age of 8 to 14 weeks — old enough to be weaned, young enough to be trainable. But before you make him jump through hoops literally and figuratively , be sure to master the basics first. Start with the thing that everyone loves most: The sound of their own name. Rinse and repeat until he does what you want him to do. Also, use consistent and positive reinforcement. Whenever he does something right, make sure to reward him in some way. As for the short-haired white GSD, he has the same grooming requirements as standard German Shepherds. Unlike his long-haired cousins, he has an undercoat that protects him against the elements. He also has natural oils that keep debris off his fur, so be careful not to bathe him too much and risk stripping off those oils. Both long-haired and short-haired White German Shepherds are heavy shedders, especially during the warm season. To prevent matting and tangles that could potentially cause skin infections, give your white GSD a brush at least once a week. Check his ears for smelly discharge and other signs of infection. Gently wipe any dirt around his eyes, nose and other parts of his body. Brush his teeth at least once every other day. Remember that those numbers do not include the cost of vaccinations, food, supplies, toys, training and other essentials for a healthy dog. Be aware, however, that you will get what you pay for. For example, the dog might come from an inferior lineage. Dog shelters are also great places to look for all White German Shepherd puppies. Of course, the Internet is a great source of white GSD sellers. Wherever you get your dog from, make sure you do a background check on both the seller and the puppy. Does the seller genuinely care about breeding dogs, or are they just popping out puppies for profit? Does the puppy himself have a history of aggression? These are just a few of the questions you should ask when deciding whether a dog is right for you. Is this the breed for you? Bear in mind that, while each breed has their general characteristics, every dog will have an individual personality. Your white GSD can be outgoing and lively, or shy and withdrawn. Are you a dog lover? If so, take just a moment to share this beautiful breed with others on your preferred social media platform. Our Puppy Test A high scoring, happy puppy, completes her puppy test! At six and eight weeks of age we start testing our puppies for intelligence and temperament. Our unique test which we formulated based upon several for the German Shepherd breed is the reason our dogs are "Rock Stars" in the dog world. Part of our philosophy is based upon the fact that virtually ALL dogs have one of three motivations; food, toys, or human motivation. To qualify as a true "Polarbear" and future parent of our puppies, our dogs must be highly human motivated. Our test evaluates and grades each puppy for stability, sociability, willingness to work, touch and sound sensitivity, and response to various incentives. Puppy results are published on each of our litters on a special "Private" page of our website for those who have already been approved for one of our puppies. Follow our Weaver Dairy Goldens Facebook group for updates on this and upcoming litters. These dogs are eager to please, and can adapt to many different environments. Goldens have a very pleasant personality. The Golden Retriever's coat ranges in color from light to dark gold, with varying shades of red. Their easy-going temperament makes them one of the most popular breeds in America. Our breeder obtained Goldens from these lines and has been breeding the lines since .Pups from this bloodline have been known to live up to 18 years we sold a pup in April to a family whose male pup from these lines lived to be 18, and several others to families whose pups from these lines lived to be years. We moved to Bessemer City, North Carolina in .As a profession, Ken is a truck driver and I am a Legal Nurse working from home. We have owned dogs and cats for as long as we have been together. She looked like a black Golden Retriever, and had the best personality and temperament ever. He is our pride and joy. School and his fiancee', Hannah, keep him very busy. They have the perfect little family. Mags and Baley are even more spoiled with the kids than when they lived with us, which I never guessed would be possible. After researching both breeds, we chose the Golden because they are a little less energetic, but still have a great personality and are eager to please. Our first Golden, Zoe, was on the higher end of the energy spectrum for a Golden. We didn't realize how laid back the breed could be until we got our next Goldens, Baley and Maggie Mae litter mates. Then Baxter, who came from the same breeder but a different bloodline, showed us just how chill these wonderful dogs can be. The fact that this is the best breed ever has been confirmed with each Golden we have had the pleasure of owning over the years. We will likely never own another breed. Hobbies: Our Goldens are our main hobby and our passion. We are constantly learning better ways to take care of them. We love have puppies once or twice a year.We also enjoy spending time together as a couple and with friends, riding our Harley Davidson motorcycle in the mountains. It is a great stress reliever. Our Location. Helms family .We are conveniently located about an hour outside of Charlotte, in Norwood, North Carolina, in the small community of Cottonville also just 15 minutes from Albemarle, NC. teacup red poodle puppies for sale - It is a sad reality that many dogs who have spent years as a member of the family wind up in shelters. But it is not necessarily a sad ending for some of these loving dogs. Beth Burstein sent in this wonderful story about a Pug named Peanut. The minute I met him I was enamored with him. It was a combination of his personality, his adorable face, and…that tongue! His story also really touched me. We had recently lost our senior Yorkie and were very lucky to contact Randolph Shelter. Peanut was very thin, needed major dental work and general healthcare, but he is a sweet lovable fellow who recently celebrated his 11th birthday. He is now a healthy and happy member of a new family. Definitely a rags to riches story! I loved watching him enjoying his home, especially knowing his history. He takes his time getting around, so I photographed him wherever it was shady outside of his house — as you can see he was tuckered out at the end of our brief shoot! I think the heat and humidity had something to do with that…I was pretty tuckered out that day too! For more adorable pets and wildlife photography, be sure to follow Beth on Facebook.
