The presence of the dilute coat gene in a Lab makes it likely that the dog was bred with Weimaraners or another non-Labrador. Although this can be a major obstacle to producing Silver Labradoodle puppies, the American Kennel Club accepts dilute-coated Labradoodles on the register. The Silver coat gene is recessive. Tweet on Twitter This complete guide to the silver Labradoodle has everything you need to know about the coat, health and temperament of a Labrador Poodle mix with shimmering grey fur. The description silver Labradoodle can reasonably be applied to dogs in several genetically distinct colors. The exact type of silver Doodle dog you pick may even affect how trainable they are, and how often they get sick. What is a Silver Labradoodle? Silver Labradoodle is a surprisingly ambiguous term! It sounds like it could mean any light grey Labradoodle, right? And that is indeed how a lot of people use it. And if so, which one! Silver Labs Part of the problem is that silver Labrador Retrievers and silver Poodles are very specifically defined colors, but they are not the same color. A silver Labrador is a brown dog with a dilute coat. That is, they possess two copies of a recessive dilution gene, which suppresses pigment production in their fur. Since the dilution gene is recessive, a Labrador must inherit a copy from both of their parents for it to take effect. Silver Labradors are born silver colored. Silver Poodles On the other hand, a silver Poodle is a black dog with two copies of a progressive greying gene. The progressive greying gene is incompletely dominant, which means that Poodles only need to inherit one copy from one parent in order for it to take effect. Different versions of the gene behave more and less powerfully as well, depending on their exact molecular structure. So there is a scale of possible color outcomes for fading Poodles, depending on how many copies of the greying gene they inherit, and how powerful each copy is. The bright platinum color described by the Poodle community as silver is the most extreme possibility. So it is likely that all silver Poodles have two copies of the greying gene and powerful ones at that! Other shades of grey On top of all this, there are other shades of grey in both breeds, which owners or observers without an interest in the finer details of color inheritance might also casually describe as silver. What cross produces silver Labradoodles? Someone using the term silver Labradoodle could mean a black or brown coat that is either: dilute faded by the progressive greying gene or both! They are all legitimate combinations. But, some are limited to particular Labradoodle generations. On the other hand, 2nd, 3rd, or multigen Labradoodles can express color dilution, progressive fading or even both, depending on their ancestry! To tell them apart, remember that dogs with color dilution are born already dilute, and dogs with the progressive greying gene start densely pigmented, and fade as they mature. To distinguish between dilute or faded coats with either a black or brown base, you might also come across the terms silver blue Labradoodle black-based dilution or fading or a silver beige Labradoodle brown-based dilution or fading. Why is my chocolate Labradoodle turning silver? They were born densely pigmented, but now the greying gene is starting to take effect, and their coat is clearing. This process starts around 6 weeks old, and takes up to two years to complete. Are silver Labradoodles rare? The genetic balance of probabilities is not stacked against them! This means the availability of silver Labradoodle puppies is driven partly by trends, and demand. Beware of breeders who tell you that a silver coat is rare, and use it to justify a silver Labradoodle cost. Silver Australian Labradoodles Australian Labradoodles are a multigenerational breeding project to turn Labradoodles into a new pedigree dog in their own right. Despite, or perhaps because of, all the ways a Labradoodle can inherit a coat that can be described as silver, none of the officially recognized colors for Australian Labradoodles are known as silver. The closest equivalent is lavender, which is a brown coat with the fading gene. Silver Labradoodle temperament So there are several different ways that grey Labradoodle puppies for sale can end up being described as silver. But do any of them make a difference to their personality? Is one kind of silver Doodle any friendlier or more trainable than another? At the time of writing, there is no known direct genetic link between coat color and temperament. But, an indirect link has developed in some Labrador breeding lines, which could also be reflected in their Labradoodle offspring. Among Labrador Retrievers, black Labs are traditionally much preferred for working gundog roles. As far as we know, black color and working aptitude are genetically independent of each other, but for many generations breeders have gone out of their way to select in favor of both together. Today, this means chocolate Labs are more likely to be described as agitated when ignored, excitable and scared of loud noise than black Labs, and less likely to be described as trainable. These traits could be reflected in a silver beige Labradoodle from chocolate Labrador lines, compared to a silver blue Labradoodle from black Labrador lines. But, there are so many other influences at work such as the individual temperament of both parents, the training they receive from an early age, the amount of physical exercise they get that it would be nearly impossible to quantify exactly how much impact coming from brown Lab lines has had. What you can be sure of is that your Labradoodle will be smart, energetic, and people-focussed. Silver Labradoodle Health Next, what about health? Labs and Standard Poodles are remarkably similar in terms of overall health and life expectancy. They both live for around 12 years on average, and during their lifetime the most common health problems they have are: Hip dysplasia Joint problems in the knees and elbows Thyroid disease Ear infections Autoimmune skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis and sebaceous adenitis Choosing a puppy from health tested parents is the best way to beat avoidable health problems like these. But yet again, the poor chocolate Lab is likely to compare unfavorably to their black and yellow cousins. Health studies of Labradors indicate that chocolate colored dogs are diagnosed with ear infections and dermatitis more frequently than black and yellow dogs, and live on average one year less. Chocolate Labs used to breed silver or silver beige Labradoodle puppies could pass these vulnerabilities on to their puppies. Your Silver Labradoodle Puppy So there you have it — one silver Doodle dog may not be strictly the same color as the next, and silver Doodles from chocolate Labrador parents may have a markedly different temperaments, health profile and lifespan too. If you already have a silver Labradoodle, please tell us about them in the comments box down below! Were they silver when you picked them up, or did they fade as they matured? More Labradoodle Photos And Resources. They are friendly, loving and loyal dogs, with a high activity level and full of fun. People considering adopting a silver Labradoodle puppy also need to be aware of how their heritage influences their temperament, and their health. What Is A Silver Labradoodle? Labradoodles are a cross between Labrador Retrievers and Poodles. They inherit characteristics from both parent breeds, including coat color. Silver Labradoodles actually have a very pale brown coat. Silver coat color is common in all three types of Poodle: Standard, Miniature, and Toy. Some Labradors are silver too, but they are much less common than silver Poodles. In fact, neither parent of a litter needs to have a silver coat to produce silver Labradoodle puppies. Color dilution genes inhibit the amount of pigment produced in fur, so that it looks pale and ethereal. For a Labradoodle to have a silver coat, they need to inherit color dilution genes from both parents. They also need to inherit the genetic recipe for a brown coat compared to, say, a black or red coat. Which brings us back to why silver Labradoodles are unusual… Silver Poodles This curly canine can have many different coat colors. These include brown, and several dilute colors including silver which is diluted brown , gray which is diluted black and apricot which is diluted red. But Poodles in other colors like black might also carry these genes silently, and pass them on to their offspring. They need the same genes from their Labrador parent too, and this is where it gets controversial. The traditional coat colors of the Labrador Retriever are black, yellow, and chocolate. A lot of Labrador fans believe the presence of color dilution genes means that a Lab comes from breeding lines that have been mixed with Weimaraners in the past. Silver Labradoodle breeding There are a couple of ways Labradoodle breeders can get around this obstacle if they particularly wish to produce silver Labradoodle puppies. One is to breed F2 Labradoodles. F2 Labradoodles are the result of breeding two first generation Labradoodles. In other words, their parents were Labradoodles, but their grandparents were Poodles and Labradors. If both of the Poodle grandparents had dilute coat colors, then statistically one quarter of their grandpuppies will do too. Another way to increase the odds of silver Labradoodles without using a silver Lab is to mate a Labradoodle from a dilute colored Poodle parent to another dilute Poodle. As beautiful as silver Labradoodles are though, the true hallmark of a good breeder is one who prioritizes the health and temperament of their puppies over their color. Silver Labradoodle Temperament Labradoodles of all colors can take very much after one of their parents, or inherit a mix of characteristics from both. Labs and Poodles are both clever and energetic. They love working closely alongside people, which makes them highly responsive to training. They both share an affinity for water, and a fondness for retrieving games. However, the Poodle can sometimes be more wary of unfamiliar people than Labradors. However, brown Labradors have a reputation for being more excitable and less successful at elite level field training than black and yellow Labs remember that silver is dilute brown — silver Labradoodles usually comes from chocolate Labrador lines. The most reliable way to predict what kind of personality a silver Labradoodle puppy will have when they grow up is to meet both of their parents, and decide if you get on with them. A good Labradoodle breeder will be happy to help arrange this. Silver Labradoodle Health Reputable Labradoodle breeders also produce healthy puppies by only using breeding dogs which have been screened for known hereditary conditions. For Labradors that means: hip dysplasia. We already know that the silver Labradoodle is a beautiful dog just by the sound of his name! If you have your sights set on the silver Labradoodle, then this article is for you. What Is A Silver Labradoodle? The silver Labradoodle as the name suggests, is a Labradoodle that has a grey or silver coat. Sometimes known as a grey Labradoodle, the silver Labradoodle is a mixed breed, crossed between a purebred Labrador Retriever and a purebred Poodle. Importantly, both the silver Labradoodle parents must be carriers of the recessive silver-haired gene. It all comes down to genetics. Well, not just genetics. There is also a bit of chance thrown in. You see, Labradoodle colors can vary quite a bit. For example, the purebred Labrador comes in three standard colors: chocolate, black, and yellow. The Poodle also comes in three colors: white, black, and apricot. As we said, the gene that makes a silver Labradoodle silver is a recessive gene. This means both parent breeds must carry and pass on this recessive gene in order for their offspring to inherit a silver coat color. If either purebred parent passes on a dominant gene to their Labradoodle offspring instead, then the dominant gene will win. As a result your Labradoodle will not be silver. So, just how rare is the silver Labradoodle? Is the Silver Labradoodle Rare? While not completely uncommon, the Silver Doodle could be considered one of the rarer doodle crosses in regard to coat color, especially since the genes that create this shade are recessive. These foundation colors are the root of any and all colors that stem from them. Both doggy parents of your Silver Doodle will have to carry and then pass on the recessive genes that make the silver coat color. This is because, dominant genes are, well, dominant! They will win out over recessive genes. As we mentioned above, the Labradoodle is a cross between the Labrador Retriever and the Poodle. This is a mix between two intelligent, affectionate, and energetic breeds who also both happen to be family favorites around the globe! The combination of the two has led to overwhelming popularity in the Labradoodle mix. On the other hand, figuring out how to get a silver Labradoodle can be a bit trickier. Silver Labradoodle genetics, as we discussed, mean that both the Labrador Retriever and the Poodle need to carry and pass on the recessive genes that lead to silver coats. There are silver Labs and Labradoodles who turn out silver due to both their parent breeds carrying the gene. So, it is possible. To get a Silver Labradoodle, most experts recommend going through reputable breeders who specialize in the color and who are also careful not to sacrifice the quality of their pups. We will touch more on how you can go about finding responsible breeders for the silver Labradoodle further down. The Labrador, for example, has a dense, double-layered coat that sheds often, lies flat to his skin, and is weather resistant. The Poodle, on the other hand, has a thick, curly coat that sheds much less and produces less allergy-inducing dander, making him an excellent choice for those who suffer from allergies. Unfortunately, there is no way to determine what type of coat you are going to get with the first-generation crossbreed like a Labradoodle, and this is one of the reasons that the practice can be somewhat controversial. However, for the most part, grooming your Labradoodle is going to require consistent brushing to keep mats and tangles at bay as well as occasional baths. But what about the silver Labradoodle? Will grooming maintenance be more difficult? The only thing that may be different when it comes to grooming a silver Labradoodle is that lighter colored dogs can be more prone to tear staining and can show dirt easier. Your Labradoodle will also need to have his nails trimmed or ground down regularly. This will keep them from breaking or cracking. Additionally his floppy ears will need to be checked and cleaned often. This will keep water and debris from building up and causing ear infections. The silver Labradoodle size will typically depend on the size of his parent breeds. Again, it is all up to genetics and chance. On average, the Labrador Retriever stands around .The Poodle, on the other hand, comes in three sizes: standard, miniature, and toy. Your typical Labradoodle is a cross between the Standard Poodle, who is 15 inches or taller and weights 40 to 70 pounds, or a miniature Poodle, who is 10 to 15 inches and weighs only 10 to 15 pounds. So, how do you prepare yourself? If at all possible, the best way to get an idea of just how big your silver Labradoodle puppy will get will be to find out how big his parents are. Is your Silver Labradoodle going to be shiny and silver like his name suggests? In some cases, yes! A quick Google Images search will show you a variation of silver and grey Labradoodle shades, and they are all beautiful. However, not all silver Labradoodles are going to share the same shade, pattern, or even coat type. Some silver Labradoodles will be lighter than others and some will be darker. Others will have patches of different colors on their chest or paws. However, for the most part, your Silver Labradoodle will have a silverfish coat that can be pale or deep charcoal. He will also have floppy ears, brown eyes, a dark nose, and a long tail. Lifespan and Health Concerns for A Silver Labradoodle Since the Silver Labradoodle is a crossbreed, determining any specific health concerns is going to be difficult. We should note that there is some debate regarding crossbreeds and whether or not they are healthier than purebreds. With that being said, we think it is best to do your research whenever you are preparing to get a new dog or puppy. We also recommend that you have your silver Labradoodle health screened. Some of the most common health issues your Labradoodle could face will be those that affect his parent breeds. The Labrador, for example, is most prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, obesity, Bloat, ear infections, and heart disease. The Poodle can be most prone to progressive retinal atrophy, epilepsy, thyroid issues, hypoglycemia, collapsed trachea, Bloat, hip dysplasia, and elbow dysplasia. If you are worried about your Silver Labrador suffering any of the above inheritable health issues you can always have him health screened. Keep in mind that reputable breeders will have already health screened their litters. They will be able to provide you with certificates proving that your puppy is healthy and ready to go home with you. What is the Silver Labradoodle Temperament Like? Labrador Retrievers are friendly and outgoing while Poodles are athletic and proud. Both breeds are affectionate and eager to please and will need plenty of exercise every day to stay happy and healthy. Best of all, both breeds are incredibly intelligent! With that being said, you can expect your silver Labradoodle to share many of these wonderful traits. He is surely going to be a family-friendly dog who does excellent with children and enjoys partaking in any family activity or outing he is invited on! However, a prospective owner should note that the silver Labradoodle comes from two parent breeds with hunting pasts. As a result, he could be prone to taking off after squirrels or rabbits just out of instinct. This crossbreed will be the safest walking on a leash and will thrive in homes with owners who are able to offer him a good, long walk each day and lots of free play time in a securely fenced backyard. The silver Labradoodle is also going to be a social dog who will enjoy the company of his family. A lonely Labradoodle or a Labradoodle who is not consistently trained, socialized, and exercised can become bored, depressed, and even destructive. If you are in the market for a family-friendly dog who is as clever as he is adorable, then the silver Labradoodle may just be the perfect match for you! She aims to produce puppies that are stunning, well-tempered, and above all, healthy family companions that you certainly would love to have around. They raise standard and miniature-sized Bernedoodles. They operate a kennel facility in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. This is a very large facility with over acres of space fitted with 2 creeks that presents a lot of opportunities for the puppies to explore. The puppies are raised with a mix of both the Badass Breeder curriculum and Puppy Culture. Although it is a kennel facility, the puppies get to roll and play around with the members of the family, as well as other animals on the farm. Their breeding line is fitted with mainly championed sires and dams that further help in improving the breed. Being a Vet tech, Autumn Kissinger does have a great understanding of the importance of genetically testing the chosen adult dogs. They are given a full panel DNA health testing and even tested for orthopedic defects that could affect the quality of life that each new Bernedoodle puppy would experience. Your puppy should go home with a 2 years health guarantee. They should be given their full dewormings and vaccinations and should go home with a puppy starter kit. They should also be microchipped and come with a puppy collar. Our Bernedoodles are from excellent bloodlines and all Pedigree information traces back to their AKC lineage. Our Dams and Sires have obtained extensive health clearances prior to being bred. These dogs will have a higher success rate for non-shedding, and are recommended for families with allergies. F1 Bernedoodles all have loose wavy coats that are typically minimal to light shedding, while F1B Bernedoodles coats can be loose wavy just like the F1 or curly and there are both coat types within the F1B litter. The F1B Bernedoodle is typically minimal to non-shedding. The coat of a Bernedoodle can vary from straight, loose wavy or curly. An F1 Bernedoodle will have a loose wavy coat, while an F1B Bernedoodle litter has both curly and loose wavy coats within the litter. The coat colors of Bernedoodles can vary based on the color genetics of the parents. We will also have Parti Bernedoodles. Daily walks are a must if you don't have a safely enclosed area for them to run freely. The Bernedoodle can be independent and does great being with family engaging in play, then happily laying on their own with a toy. It is still unknown how long Bernedoodles will live as it is a newer cross. The expected lifespan is hoped to be years. As with any dog, socialization and training should start while the dog is still a puppy and continue throughout its life. Look for a puppy kindergarten class locally or join the AKC S. Puppy Program , training based on positive techniques. You do not have to be an AKC purebred puppy to participate in their S. Puppy Program. Find a class here. This is a great place to start socializing and training. A well-socialized, well-trained Bernedoodle makes a wonderful family companion. Early socialization and training establishes those lifetime bonds between the family and puppy as these programs teach you how to communicate with your new puppy and get started on the right foot. This location lends itself to inspire a very desirable temperament in dogs; so that we have both "nature and nurture" going for us. The Bernedoodle is a mix between a Bernese Mountain dog with a Poodle. Click here to learn more about terminology concerning levels of cross breeding. Our Bernedoodle puppies are intelligent, friendly, playful, and goofy. Best of all they are loyal and loving. All our puppies are raised in our home and are highly socialized; we raise our puppies on the principles of puppy culture and Badass Breeder programs. We start crate training and potty training before any puppy goes to their forever home. We mainly focus on breeding F1b standard size bernedoodles. All WT Bernedoodles come from genetically cleared parents, and with a two-year health guarantee for inherited diseases. Go to our "parents" page to see the genetic reports of our parent dogs Again, our dogs are raised in our home, not in kennels. To ensure the best life for every dog in our program we keep a limited number of dogs in our house because we want to be sure each puppy receives the attention they need. We do utilize guardian homes also as are program is growing. We also will be rehoming our retired females when it's time. Please visit our FAQ's page for more details about guardian home opportunities and Retired dogs. Many times folks that are looking for goldendoodles, labradoodles, sheepadoodles, or aussiedoodles will often decide to adopt from us, mainly because they haven't yet heard of Bernedoodles! About us We are Matt and Sara Rigdon. Matt has been a landscaper, heavy equipment operator and builder. Sara is a Registered Nurse of 25 years but is now working full time with the bernedoodles and cabin rentals. We built and own a log cabin rental business in the mountains of NC where it is a great place to visit year-round. If you need a place to stay when you come to pick up your puppy just let us know and we will try to make sure a cabin is available for you. You are also invited to come visit the puppies at 7 weeks of age. Our website to reserve a cabin is www. Besides our cabin rentals we are also are parents to 2 biological children and foster parents. Our Current foster children are big helpers with the care or our dogs and puppies. We love people and animals. Our dogs were purchased not only to have hiking buddies and loving companions but to share their puppies with others because they are such great dogs. Our dogs and puppies also serve as therapy to the foster children that come into our home. Foster children are traumatized due to unfortunate circumstances and when they leave the only family they know they find great comfort in the love that our dogs and puppies give them. We cannot say enough good things about our Poodles and Bernedoodles. Sara Phone Text, email or call between 9am and 9pm daily except text messages or email only on Sundays.
How healthy are english bulldogs? We are very picky about what genetics and pedigree we allow in our program and all of the parents are health tested before breeding to ensure the best quality of life for our bulldog babies. In the 14 plus years we have been breeding we can honestly say the only problem we have came across is the common Cherry eyes. We have never experienced any of the horror stories you read about online as from the gate when we started we knew we wanted the best quality and health and that never came cheap!! Looking for a cheap bulldog will save you money on the purchase price but it can go over ten fold in vet bills from not buying from the correct breeder that knows his lines and does his part of proper health testing. Are French Bulldogs healthier than an English Bulldog? They can both have similar issues. The main difference is one is full of energy and the other is way more laid back. How long Have you been breeding and raising Bulldogs for? We have been breeding and raising Bulldogs since we started with our pet Scooby and the love and the bulldog fever just grew for us to be able to provide families with a bulldog of their own to love and enjoy life with. Can Bulldogs live an active lifestyle? If you are looking for a jogging partner the answer is NO!! They can go for a brisk walk for a few blocks late or early mornings as long as the temperatures are good for them. Every now and then you will find a crazy bulldog that just goes crazy and can go for a good walk no problem but that is very rare especially with their flat faces. What Vet should I take my bulldog too? You should look for a veterinarian that has experience with the bulldog breed and your local vet office might be just fine. When we see that we run with all honesty. When should I breed my female? You should breed your female when she has had her second heat cycle and is fully mature in the sense of her overall look. Breeding her at a young age can stun her growth and that is something that can not be reversed. Some breeders say that you should wait so the female is a good mother but that is irrelevant as they go through C sections and its highly unlikely the mom would want them right away. It takes a few days for them to really warm up to them. How do I stud out my bulldog? First and foremost you should produce your own male if you are a so called breeder and not just a dog pimp. After you have the male with the traits you envision is a great representative of the breed and what you strive to produce you must have some great offspring to show off what this stud is capable of doing with his genetic traits and dna. If your male is providing what you say others will contact you on their own but there is a few places you can offer your services like K9stud. Questions about French Bulldog puppies for sale in Northern California? We have answers. How does French Bulldog puppies for sale in Northern California work? All over the net, as well as with the Uptown network, you will see many prices for French Bulldog puppies. Puppy prices are determined by the experience of the breeder, coat color, pedigree as well as a few other factors. But, we aim at matching you with the absolute perfect puppy, and one that suits your pocket too! What kind of dog is a French Bulldog? French Bulldogs are actually descendants of English Bulldogs that were bred, specifically, to be smaller and sweeter and cuter than their great big English cousins. They are very goofy and look like they could fall over at any time with their large heads. Today, they are especially popular around the world. Why are Northern California French Bulldogs so expensive? There is a big difference in French Bulldogs from most other breeds for many reasons. They have exceptionally narrow hips making reproduction very difficult. Because of this, breeders have to actually artificially inseminate their dogs - yes you read right! Second, also because of their very narrow hips, puppies have to be delivered through C-section. Because of all of this very necessary added work, Frenchies will cost more than the average dog. Do you only match me with French Bulldog breeders in Northern California? No way! The majority of breeders in the Uptown network are complete professionals when it comes to the shipping of Frenchies. They can also organize travel for your new French Bulldog puppy to any major airport nearby. As the Uptown network is expanding, you may even be able to pick up your brand new best friend right around the corner! How do you screen French Bulldog breeders Northern California? We are contacted on a daily basis by prospective breeders and businesses. Uptown has extremely strict standards when it comes to factors such as animal care, breeding experience, facility quality, and more. Anything and everything happens on the internet making it easy to find puppies online in a snap. Unfortunately, it gives breeders that are inexperienced, as well as puppy mills, the opportunity to sell sick dogs as well. Our simple goal is to connect the best breeders with loving families and give you the Frenchie of your dreams. What is a puppy mill like for French Bulldog puppies Northern California? Professional breeders give puppies an oasis to grow up in. Puppy mills are terrible little prisons for dogs. At the mills, all the dogs have a job to breed, and breed, and breed. They breed, more often than not, unhealthy puppies that develop terrible behavioral and health problems. These problems can cost you thousands of dollars and these puppies often die very young. Are there any French Bulldog puppies in Northern California right now? We will then do all the hard work for you and connect you with the perfect breeders to give you the French Bulldog puppy of your dreams! Ever wonder who cares for the seniors or unwanted bulldogs when a family no longer has time for the bulldog that has been a family member for a number of years? These senior Bulldogs depend on other people that take the time, to show concern and open their hearts for these Bulldogs that are no longer puppies — but just as adorable nonetheless. The need for help with senior Bulldogs and unwanted bulldogs far outstrip homes that can take them in or be willing to accept them as part of their families. Help is needed for seniors: Foster homes to care for them and not have them in kennels. Rethink your relationship with your bulldog. It is a choice when you got your bulldog and a choice when you give them up. NorCal Bulldog Rescue is in desperate need of foster homes! If you can help out, even if only for a short time, please contact us. The Bulldogs do not have to be integrated into your family of dogs, many of them need to be placed as only dogs so they need to be kept separate. If you have the ability to gate them off, this would be a tremendous help. You shop. Amazon Gives. Amazon donates 0. AmazonSmile is the same Amazon you know. Same products, same prices, same service. Life Span Did You Know? The Boxer is one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. It has been recognized by the AKC since .Although the Boxer dog breed originated in Germany, their ancient ancestry can be traced back to the Assyrian empire war dogs of BC. The modern Boxer breed we know and love today was originally developed in Germany in the late s. English-bred Bulldogs and the Bullenbesiier were crossed to create an energetic and agile hunting dog to chase wild game. The Boxer is a popular family companion and a versatile working dog. As a member of the Working Group, Boxers can be found competing in dog sports like agility, obedience, and herding. They also make great service and assistance dogs, as well as therapy dogs, and can be found working as search and rescue dogs, drug detection dogs, police dogs, and military dogs. The Boxer is a muscular and energetic dog that tends to have a happy, friendly disposition. They bond closely with their families and tend to get along well with children and other dogs. They can even do well with other pets despite their high prey drive if they are socialized and trained with them. As long as they are well-socialized, Boxers are generally upbeat, playful, and friendly. Although they have a natural instinct to protect their family from unwanted visitors, they do tend to warm up once introduced and are happy to make a new friend. They can be prone to barking a lot if you do not work on socialization and training your dog to stop barking early on. Boxers can be highly adaptable dogs. Although they have a lot of energy and are better suited to homes with yards where they can run, they can adapt to apartment living as long as they get the daily exercise, attention, and mental stimulation they need. As with any non-arctic dog breed, they are sensitive to very cold temperatures. Boxers are also a brachycephalic breed, which means they are even more sensitive to heat than other dogs. A Boxer is also one of the most affectionate dog breeds. Because they bond so closely with their families and get bored easily, they should not be left alone for long periods of time. Potential health conditions to be aware of in a Boxer include hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy, thyroid issues , and heart conditions like aortic stenosis and cardiomyopathy. Good breeding practices make a big difference and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking the breeder about the health and genetic history of the parents and about any health tests that have been done. Boxers are intelligent dogs that are eager to please their owners. Despite their energetic personality, they are one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners and are highly trainable dogs. They tend to excel at almost any task put before them! Because of their open, friendly nature and high energy, they have a tendency to jump up at people in excitement and playfulness. Since they grow into powerful dogs, you will want to make sure you train your dog not to jump up. Boxers have smooth and short coats that will shed a little year-round and require minimal grooming. A brush-down once or twice a week and the occasional bath as needed will keep their short coat healthy and looking great. Nail trims once or twice a month are usually enough to keep nails from growing too long. Checking ears weekly and carefully cleaning as needed can help prevent ear infections. Checking and wiping their facial wrinkles weekly or a few times a week if your dog is prone to getting into things can help keep their wrinkles clean and free of irritation. Dental diseases, like gum disease, are the most common health issues in older dogs because dental care is often overlooked; and, it can lead to other serious health issues. Brushing daily, plus cleanings at the vet when needed, is ideal. The Boxer is a high-energy dog breed that needs plenty of daily exercise to stay happy and healthy. Due to their high prey drive and urge to chase, they should only be let off-leash in secure areas. Boxers tend to get bored with repetition, are excellent problem solvers, and are naturally exuberant. A fully-grown Boxer usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs pounds. Boxers generally live years on average. In Germany, the Boxer was one of the first dog breeds chosen for police training. Featured Boxer Article. Questions about Boxer puppies for sale in New York? If you love dogs, this will be great practice. From the flat face and curly tail to the wrinkles throughout his blocky body, you will find this pug irresistible! So, what are you waiting for? Erase the top half. Curve the sides out and put a straight line at the top of the curves. Round the edges. This will be the head, so make it large. Draw two rounded intersecting lines as the top wrinkles. Erase the tops so they don't touch. There should now be two curves facing the top. Do two more curvy lines, facing the opposite direction. You should have a wavy diamond-like shape, but with no lines touching. Put two more curvy lines next to the diamond bottom, above the curves you just drew but a little shorter. None of the curves should touch the sides of the head. Do two curvy lines don't worry, these are your last ones! They should look like two candy canes facing opposite each other, curving up just a little bit. There should be a space in between. Put a short line halfway in between. Put some circles in between. Put a circle inside the circle, taking up most of the space, and a circle inside the circle you just drew. Broaden the mustache lines on the right side of the shoe-shape. Draw an upside down rainbow directly under the rounded mustache and then a curve sticking out. Draw a line where the curve cuts in half. Learning to draw a pug for kids 1 option Learn to draw pugs for kids and draw two ground balls for the head and body of the dog. In this step, draw the eyes, then the nose and mouth for the pug. All you need to do here is to draw a large figure with a short neck, then a chest and front legs. Now the rest of the body, which consists of the hind legs and the tail rolled into a ring. Drawing a pug 2 option First, we will make the border of the future head and body. To do this, draw a circle and hook it to the corner of the rectangle. On the circle draw the sides of the triangles — ears. At the center of a round figure at a great distance we have large and round eyes. In the middle of the pupil make a concentric circle and sketching the pupil, leaving a small bright point. This will make the game alive. At the same level with the eyes, we draw a broad nose, on the sides of which we place the cheeks. Outline the design of the curve, delineating the area of wrinkles. Wrinkles above the eyes and on the forehead will help look at grief. We make the back and end up with a small tail up. From it, we go down and draw a little paw. It remains to finish the lower part of the belly and legs. We delimit the plane of the earth. Work with hatching — sketched ears pug. Do the same with the area of the nose and pupil. We give the picture volume with a few strokes on the paws and tail, near the head. Make a shadow under the dog. Drawing a face pug On one line we make 2 points. Then we circle them. We restrict the circles to oblong figures. Fill the remaining space with black. These are the eyes. Circle them with a curve. We draw a nose. Leaving two oblong lines, paint over the nose with black. Circle it and go down. This will be the cheeks, which draw on 3 points. Under the nose, you need to make a tongue, circle the mouth. Now make out the lower part of the head. For the top set 2 points above the eyes. We carry smooth lines to the eye. We connect on the forehead. On the sides, we draw ears. Focus on the shape of the head, the position of the ears, the length of the legs, and the overall body structure. Follow the steps illustrated in the below collage, and soon you will be able to draw a realistic pug. Step 1: Draw the Body of Your Dog Drawing Begin your easy dog drawing by drawing a tilted oval shape to represent the main body of the dog. Step 2: Draw the Head Attached to the main body, draw a circle to represent the head of the pug. Step 3: Add the Ears Attached to either side of the head, draw the overlapping oval shapes to represent the ears. Within the center of the head, draw a narrow oval shape to represent the nostrils. Step 4: Draw the Legs of Your Easy Dog Drawing Again, overlapping the body, draw two narrow vertical oval shapes to represent the front legs. Continue to draw a larger oval shape to represent the rear leg of your dog drawing. Step 5: Add the Paws Beneath the previously drawn leg shapes, draw the construction lines of the paws underneath each leg. These can be represented by small ovals. Continue to draw two horizontal lines across the center line and an additional two shorter horizontal lines at the bottom of the center line. Between the two horizontal center guidelines, draw a circle on each end to represent the eyes of the pug. Use the previously drawn construction lines to aid you in outlining the top and bottom neckline of the pug leading onto the oval shape of the body. Step Outline the Paws of Your Easy Dog Drawing Begin to outline a more realistic paw shape for each leg, using the previously drawn ovals in step five. Step Continue to Outline Your Simple Dog Drawing In this step, you are going to outline more realistic-looking dog ears in your simple dog drawing. Continue the step by drawing the connecting line between both ears which represents the top of the head. Finish this step by drawing the final bottom neckline. Step Outline the Eyes Use the previously drawn circles to aid you in outlining more curved and realistically shaped eyes. Within each eye, draw a half-moon shape to represent the iris. Once you have completed this step, you can erase any construction lines that are still visible. Step Draw the Mouth and Nostrils Within the face, draw the triangular-shaped mouth on the bottom area of the center guideline. Finish the step by drawing the curving nostril shape on the center axis. Make sure these lines curve around the eyes, nostrils, and mouth. Once you have completed this step, you may now erase the visible guidelines. Step Apply the First Color Coat Select a regular brush and light brown paint, and evenly coat the pug, however, leave the ears blank. Step Continue to Color Your Simple Dog Drawing With a fine, sharp brush and dark gray paint, paint the ears, eyes, and the bottom area of each paw. Step Highlight the Body Begin by lightening the first color coat throughout the body and face area of the pug, using a soft brush and white paint. Repeat using a fine, sharp brush for finer and sharper highlight lines. Switch to a blending brush to spread and fade the white paint over the first color coat. Step Contour Your Dog Drawing With a soft brush and dark bronze paint, begin to enhance the first color coat. To do this, simply follow or trace the guidelines added in step .Switch to a blending brush to soften and fade the contouring. Step Shade Your Easy Dog Drawing In this step, add shading around the facial and body contouring lines with a soft brush and black paint. Use a blending brush to soften and spread the shading between the existing color coats. Complete the step with a fine, sharp brush and black paint, and add fine brushstrokes along the bottom neckline area. Step Texture Your Simple Dog Drawing Select a fine, sharp brush and a combination of black, white, and bronze paint, and add fine brushstrokes creating a furry texture along the body of your pug. Step Continue to Texture Your Drawing Continue onto the nostril and mouth area, using a thin brush and a combination of black and white paint, and create a furry texture. Surround the eye patches with fine brushstrokes. Follow this by tracing the structure lines on the face and head with fine brushstrokes and black paint. Finish this off using white paint to enhance the fur coat. Continue onto the ears, and add fine brushstrokes using a thin brush and black paint. Repeat once more using white paint to add a fine highlighted coat within each ear. Step Color the Eyes With a fine, sharp brush and black paint, fill in both eyes. Continue onto the iris and outline it using brown paint. Finish off using white paint, and add fine brushstrokes within each paw. Step Highlight the Eyes Continue with the eyes by adding a subtle highlight within each iris using a thin brush and white paint. Complete the step using white paint to add fine whiskers to your dog drawing. Step Add a Furry Outline In this step, extend the fur coat beyond the solid outline of your dog drawing, using a fine, sharp brush and the corresponding colors. Step Apply a Ground Shadow Add shading underneath each of the paws with a small, soft brush and black paint. Switch to a blending brush to spread and soften the ground shadow. Step Finalize Our How to Draw a Dog Tutorial To achieve a realistic final result of a pug drawing, select a fine, sharp brush and matching colors and trace any harsh outlines. Congratulations on learning how to draw a dog step-by-step! Try drawing dogs in action, like running or jumping, to bring your drawings to life. Experiment with different textures and shading techniques to give your drawings depth and dimension. Remember, each artist has their unique style, and your dog drawings are a reflection of your creativity and imagination. Pinterest Email Have you ever wanted to learn how to draw a dog? Some of you may have abandoned artistic pursuits, assuming them to be a pastime of childhood, while others may protest that you lack the ability or talent. This is all errant nonsense. The only real question is what kind of dog we should draw. I started with these two stock photos for reference. I boiled them down to their most basic components and devised simple step-by-step approaches. Step 1: Start your dog drawing with simple shapes The hardest part of any drawing exercise is putting pencil to paper. Our step-by-step approach to drawing a Pug starts with very simple figures. Try one dog or the other and see which method you like the best! Look below each image for the instructions for the right-hand Pug. Our first dog drawing the Pug on the left begins with a square and a rectangle. Step 1: Drawing starts with simple shapes. Did you select the dog on the right? Start by sketching a fig, tear drop, or foil-wrapped chocolate treat. If someone is, ask them to join you! Step 2: Add and subtract lines from your art The next steps in our quest to draw a Pug are easy as well. Lucky for us, a Pug is a nice and blocky breed of dog. All you have to do is add three diagonal lines. You can erase the corners or leave them. Step 2: Eventually, our drawings will look like Pugs. The next step is just as easy for the second Pug drawing. Step 3: Puppy legs for one Pug, a crown for the other dog Our left-hand Pug needs some little legs. The legs closest to us extend right out of body, and the others come out of the chest and stomach. The legs and feet are just modified triangles. This is accomplished by drawing three lines. This is the most complicated step for our first Pug. Start with the eyes and eyebrow ridges. Draw two lemon shapes on the same level as the spine. One is above the front leg, the other split by the outside of the square. Next is the nose, which is a little oval or rectangle just below and between the eyes. Now for the tongue, an arch leaning right underneath the nose. Draw a under the tongue for a mouth, and the chin is below that. The muzzle is like a little tent wrapped around the nose. Step 4: Drawing the Pug faces. Our other Pug drawing needs cheekbones and jowls. These are nothing more than two sets of curved lines connecting the top of the head with the muzzle. I started next to the eyes on either side of the face. The more squiggly your lines, the more character your Pug drawing will have. I needed to condense both Pug drawing lessons into six steps, so this one ended up being the most complex. I broke it down further for your convenience! For the right cheek, draw a line connecting the eye and muzzle. The right ear is a little triangular shape between the eyebrow ridge and the tongue. Draw the left ear triangle. Finish with the jaw line. I tried to draw triangles for the ears on this Pug sketch. The left ear worked out fairly well, but as you can see, the right ear is more of an awkward quadrilateral. Your ear-triangle quality may vary! Draw a curly line, or the best part of a number six, from the base of the spine to the top of the rear leg. Two tiny circles for irises complete the eyes! If you desire a fawn-coated Pug, color in the muzzle and the ears. Color in the whole thing if you prefer a black-coated Pug! Step 6: Adding the final details to our dog drawings. Little circles in the eyes for the irises. Put them wherever you like! Draw half an oval into the top of the mouth triangle for a tongue! Sketch squiggly lines at the top of the head and at the base of the eyes for a nice wrinkly Pug. Color in the ears and muzzle for a fawn-coated Pug, or the whole thing for a black-coated Pug. See, anyone can draw a dog! There are tons of step-by-step lessons to be found online, and plenty of books to buy or checkout at your local library. These books are marvelous guides for people of all ages and skill levels. I hope you found these to be fun distractions from your normal routine. Let us know if you enjoyed drawing one or both dogs; if you clamor for it, maybe we can try another dog breed in the near future! Which Pug did you try to draw? How did it come out? Share pictures of your dog drawings in the comments. He enjoys making art, hiking, and concert-going, as well as dazzling crowds with operatic karaoke performances. He has a one-year-old female Bluetick Coonhound mix named Idris, and his online life is conveniently encapsulated here. Also, work on a solid surface. An H pencil has hard graphite, and it will keep a sharp point for fine lines and writing. A soft graphite or B pencil will give you nice, dark lines, but the point will wear down or dull easily. The higher the number before the H or B, the lighter or darker the lead. If you do have a budget, Blackwing pencils are what I use. Blackwing pencils have special Japanese graphite that lets you do everything from sharp lines to deep, dark shading, all with one pencil. Whatever you have on hand, pick it up and try a sketch. It is the best way to learn as you go. If you want something a little better quality, Strathmore is a great economical option with lots of different weights and sizes to choose from. For pencil drawing, you want to go with smooth paper as opposed to textured. Any paper will do to get you started. Tortillion Shading techniques. A tortillion is the fancy name for a blending stump. This makes shading so easy and fun! You can even use it to shade other areas, as you will see in the video. So, stay with me! Eraser An eraser is a very versatile tool! There are all kinds of erasers you can try. Kneadable erasers can be molded like playdoh depending on what you need. You can add texture to a kneadable eraser, like this one by Faber Castell , and roll it across your shaded areas to create inverse texture. Try an eraser pen, like the Mono Zero by Tombow , for fine areas like whiskers on a cat or those tiny highlights. This model comes with a couple extra replacements erasers. The stiff rubber nibs are great for clean outlines and sharp highlights. Also, if you have a latex allergy, polymer erasers may give you the same results without the skin reaction! Even if an artist draws from a picture or photo, they will inevitably put their own stamp on any piece of art they produce. Like a fingerprint that is unique to each human being, every artist has their own signature style. Unless they are asleep. For me, the easiest solution is to draw from a reference. That way, I still get creative, and I have good references to capture unique features. So, I say pick a photo or many and go from there. Either way, have fun! And, just as a side note — this is also my first art step-tutorial ever! How to Draw A Pug Step 1 — Outline Video: — For our pug drawing, we are going to start with an outline using very light strokes. I learned drawing pretty much on my own, so I have a method that works for me. You can find every kind of drawing tutorial out there, and learn really cool techniques from different artists, so try as many as possible. The first step is to find the center of your page. You can also draw light guidelines. Now, find the center of your subject. Symmetrical Features Next, I like to begin with the face. If you can visualize a line down the middle of that pug dog face, start there. Since this will be a quick sketch of the details, you can eyeball the distance from this centerline to each…eyeball. Almost too easy. Keep in mind that an eyeball is a sphere and not a flat circle. That means each highlight on the surface of the eye will also be curved. Remember to sketch lightly so you can erase if you have to. From the eyes, you can move down to the nose, folds of the chin, up to the forehead, and out to the ears. Measure the space between each new object or shape as you go. Outline Shade Variations Video: I also find it helpful to outline the differently shaded areas. The video might do a better job of explaining this. The forehead wrinkles, for example, are really just fine lines with a darker background. Outline those areas in preparation for shading them. We are about to turn a simple line drawing into a 3-dimensional fur baby so, stay with me. Time for some details! Begin by darkening the outline of each eye. Remember to keep referring to your photo for details. The eyes are the most important creature feature. If one eye seems a little bigger or smaller, let it be! Those quirky details make each living thing unique and are very important if you want to capture them well. That means the light reflected in them will also not be reflected symmetrically. Capturing that will give you those characteristic pug dog eyes. Do you see a circular dark area? Shade a circle in that spot. If you see two tiny triangles for nostrils, shade those in with the depth of color you see. The filling in and shading is kind of like a foundation color layer that we are adding underneath. This will help make the details pop! If your portrait now looks a little like a cute dog emoji pug, you are doing great! If you decide you need to go darker, shade another layer and blend until you get the tone you want. Natural Shadows Video: A good thing to keep in mind as you shade is where the natural shadows are. They are important! At this point in the video, I started shading in the torso, and the difference in shade between the forelegs and the hind legs helped to place them at the right distance. The darker hind legs look further away. Also, note that each paw is different in terms of the direction the toes are facing. Pay attention to those details as well. It might look weird at first, but it will all come together as you shade and fill. A bit of tissue or regular paper will give you similar results. The only difference is blending stumps can be sharpened to blend tiny areas as well. Work In Sections Video: It helps to work in small sections. Repeat steps in small areas, darkening, shading, and blending until your background is shaded. A Little Free Therapy On a personal note: art is therapy. I actually did this project at a really low point. That worried little face materializing over chipper and upbeat music made me realize that maybe I take life too seriously sometimes. The answer might be much simpler than we think — like focusing on doing what you love. This might be why I prefer pencil drawing. You can erase if you make a mistake! As Norah took shape, there was something a little off about her hind leg. This is why the outlines should be drawn lightly. They are very forgiving and easy to erase and redraw. Erasers also come in handy for adding a highlight here and there. Okay, maybe I enjoy adding detail a little too much, but those tiny, painstaking details are what bring the entire drawing to life! That said, the thousands of little hairs on this velvety pug lady looked daunting at first! BUT, I just started at one spot and went for it. If I did it, you can do this! The end result will be so worth it. Keep in mind the direction the hairs are facing refer to your photos. How long are they, how thick, and how close together are they? As unimportant as it might seem, these little unique and almost invisible details decide the final outcome. Details make something one-dimensional come alive! Yes, I said that again for effect. And there you have it! You drew a pug! If this was your first time drawing something, I am so proud of you! Keep going! Like any other skill, learning to draw will just get better the more you practice. As always, I like sharing something about the process that inspired me. But that painstaking process gave me a new understanding of the God who created all creatures, great and small. He not only designed and created every hair, but He has also numbered every hair on every head! No wonder He is jealous of His creation. I would be pretty jealous if someone tried to claim my artwork as their own after all that work! Every time you look in the mirror, learn to love those unique details He included in your design. You are one of a kind created for a beautiful purpose! I hope you enjoyed my first-ever art tutorial. I loved having you along on the journey! Stay tuned for more art videos and tutorials. Looking for a unique gift or home decor? See below for a few of our favorite picks. It almost looks like a smaller version of a bulldog! They may be mischievous and stubborn, but they can also be affectionate and loving. Because of its adorable and distinct physical features , the pug is not only one of the top choices when choosing a pet dog, it is also an appealing subject to draw. We created a step-by-step process on how to draw a pug, made easier with 9 basic steps and simple illustrations. Have fun drawing a charming and playful pug! Emphasize the chubby cheeks of the pug by making it a bit wider than the rest of the face, as shown in the illustration. Avoid pressing down too hard with your pencil when drawing the outline. It is crucial to draw with a light hand so you can easily erase any lines from the outline that you no longer need later on. Remember, when drawing a rough sketch or outline, draw with light strokes. Simply draw an uneven shape with a tapered top and wide bottom to form the right ear that is fully visible. Then, draw a similar shape halfway through on the opposite side to create the left ear. Step 3 — Then, Outline the Body of the Pug Draw an elongated shape with a round bottom right underneath the head to create the body. As you can see in the illustration, the body of the pug is relatively smaller than its head. This forms both front legs of the pug. This creates the appearance of a folded hind leg. Afterwards, draw the foot with three paws at the bottom of the hind leg. Since the pug is facing sideways, only its left hind leg is visible. In the illustration shown above, the tail is simply raised upwards. However, you can also draw it in a spiral form if you like! Create the snout by drawing a sideways oval shape at the bottom middle inside the face of the pug. This is where you will be drawing the nose and the mouth of the pug later in the following steps. Starting from the top to the bottom, proceed by drawing a curved eyebrow above each eye. Then, draw a sideways oval shape with a slightly pointed bottom paired with a W-shaped curved line inside the snout. It all depends on the glimmer of the eyes. Inside the outline of the eyes, draw a circle shape on either side depending on which direction you want the pug to be looking at. In this case, we drew the pupil on the right side. Afterwards, draw a smaller circle inside the pupil to create the iris. Then, draw two more tiny circles inside the iris. Now, shade the entire iris except for the two tiny circles. In this step, we will now be adding colors on our drawing—so exciting! Pugs come in four primary colors: black, fawn, silver fawn, and apricot. Any other color is a variation of any of these or a combination of two. Have fun playing with colors until the pug ultimately comes to life! For this pug drawing, we created such a cute cartoon version of this famous dog breed. We love the style it is drawn in, but if you want to create your own take then you could change the design a bit. You might want to make the pug look a little more realistic or maybe even simplify the design even more! Everyone knows that pugs are super cute. The only thing cuter than a pug is more pugs! For the complete list please see our Listings of Maltipoo Breeders page. The cost of a Maltipoo puppy is determined by several factors. First, the reputation of the breeder you choose to purchase your new pup from will always play a role in how much they charge for their dogs. Reputable breeders tend to be more expensive than those who are not as well known or who breed their dogs on small scale with an emphasis on raising happy and healthy pets. If you want documentation that the dog is purebred i. There are many benefits to owning a Maltipoo. These dogs have been known to live as long as 16 years, so your investment in a pet is one that will last a lifetime. Their small size makes them ideal for smaller living spaces and individuals looking for a lap dog. Maltipoos are sensitive pups which means they can be easily hurt by harsh words or actions on the part of their owner. The biggest drawback to owning a Maltipoo is its small size. These little dogs are quite fragile and can easily be injured by rough playing or even the slightest fall. You should also meet the mother of your pup so you can see how big she is and check for any health issues like arthritis or hip dysplasia which could be passed on to her pups. If you want more than one dog, then make sure the breeder will guarantee their health if they end up having the same father i. Look for clean conditions, healthy pups, and knowledgeable breeders who will be able to answer all of your questions without making you feel rushed or intimidated. Visiting your potential breeder will also allow you to see the parents of your pup. Follow up with these reference calls so you can find out more about their experience with each breeder and how smooth the transaction was. These conversations will also help you avoid people who only have bad things to say about working with them in the past or those who have shady business practices like selling sick animals or refusing refunds once puppies are born. References will hopefully tell you that it was wonderful working with that specific breeder. You can use these customer referrals to get a better idea of what type of temperament your pup will have, how healthy it is, and if its habits are normal for an animal of its breed. This will give you a chance to ask them about their experience and see if there were any negative consequences long after the dogs were born. When meeting past customers, try to figure out how similar their lifestyle is to yours so you can see if a dog from this breeder will be a good fit for you. You should also meet with the parents of your pup since this will give you more insight into what type of temperament and personality your Maltipoo will have. Meeting these dogs in person can give you an idea of what to expect so you can prepare yourself if anything goes wrong after bringing your new best friend home. Since you want to make sure your dog is healthy from the day you bring them home, you should ask the breeder if they have a veterinarian they use to take care of their animals. You should also find out if there are any long-term health conditions this particular breed has and what type of preventative measures need to be taken in order to keep your pup safe and healthy for as long as possible. An unethical dog breeder will likely try to rush you into making a decision because it means more money in their pockets. They may even call or email repeatedly trying to convince you that this is the right pup for you without ever answering any of your questions directly. Sometimes these breeders will tell you whatever you want to hear just so they can get new customers through the door. Even the best breeders have to deal with sickly pups, temperamental adult dogs, and a variety of other issues that may require a return visit to the vet or additional treatments. Treatments for your pup should be discussed before you bring it home so you know what to expect if anything goes wrong after coming home from the pet store or breeder. Ask The Michigan Breeder if Your Maltipoo Puppy Has Any Health Problems Some unethical dog breeders in Michigan may try to hide the fact that your pup has any health problems by only providing you with a list of their best dogs rather than including potential issues. The right breeder will welcome these types of conversations and be completely honest if there are any health risks involved with your pup or its parents. You should also ask about any guarantees offered by this breeder in case something happens shortly after you bring your pup home. For instance, a Maltese or poodle may be more relaxed around the house while a terrier will get into antics if bored. Each Maltipoo is unique but all of them need plenty of playtime with their owners, toys, and regular exercise in order to stay healthy and out of mischief. They make excellent companions but only when they get the attention and exercise that an active family needs to provide on a daily basis. Puppy proofing is essential because these little guys love to chew on anything and everything they can find. The last thing you want is your Maltipoo swallowing something toxic or getting hurt because it was left unsupervised for a few minutes. Mistakes will happen even with the best puppy training techniques so expect some accidents throughout this process. Remember, patience and encouragement are the keys to success when potty training your Maltipoo. I love animals and love helping people adopt a pet. It all started when attending Missouri State University and I began volunteering at an animal shelter. See the Expecting page for more info on the pups and breedings. Call if you have any questions Coming this wintere should be Maltipoos, morkies and poodles. Contact me if interested. If you would like to put a deposit on an expecting litter please contact me. BOY - VS - GIRL One reason people sometimes consider getting a girl is that they feel a girl will be sweeter or more loving however, females are usually more independent and stubborn than the males. Females are much more intent upon showing their dominance by participating in behaviors such as fighting to establish who is in charge. I have had to occasionally break up a tussle or two and they were between girls not boys. Males, on the other hand, are usually more affectionate, outgoing, attentive, and seek your attention more often. .They are very attached to their people but are also very loving to others as well. Girls usually have their "favorite" and snub the rest. Boys can also be more accepting of other pets. Most boys are easily motivated by praise, and are very eager to please which makes training easier. Neutered males rarely exhibit secondary sexual behavior such as "marking" or lifting their leg. Boys who are neutered early by 5 months of age usually don't ever raise their leg to urinate since they no longer have the higher testosterone level of an "intact" dog. The house training of a neutered male is no different than the house training of a female. One reason a female is sometimes chosen is so that it can wear bows and can be dressed up. There is now a variety of choices of clothing and accessories for both boys and girls at pet stores and pet boutiques. A puppy of either sex will be a wonderful friend for many years, bringing you joy and unconditional love. Airline fees paid by buyer. Diamond puppy kibble food for small dogs is the food the pups are eating. Please have a heating pad under your pups sleeping area as well. Bell Training is a good way to house train. Look into washable potty pads rather than disposable. Maltipoo vs Poochon Comparison Doodle breeds are the stars of the 21st century. These delightful dogs are hypoallergenic, effortless to train, and easy to love. If your choice comes down between the two, read on to find out which one fits your lifestyle best. Vet visits, injections and health checks are all too often in the early stages and, following all that, the final decision you have to make is whether or not to have your Boxer spayed or neutered. Spayed or Neutered? The procedure usually involves cutting a small incision in the abdomen. Whilst recommendations vary, vets typically suggest that you should have your Boxer spayed or neutered between the ages of four and nine months. This is thought to have long-term health benefits, as well as helping to prevent behavioural traits, such as marking and aggression. Whilst some recommend spaying before first heat as young as five months , others suggest that this can increase the risk of mammary tumours. We would always recommend consulting your vet for a personalised opinion. Most studies have said that spaying a dog can calm them down in most cases. However, it should not be seen as a cure-all for puppy problems. There are many reasons why you should have your Boxer spayed or neutered, not least of all because it will likely improve their quality of life and stop you from worrying about a litter of puppies. Spaying is proven to reduce the risk of breast cancer and uterine infections, and neutering similarly prevents testicular cancer. So, if you want to prevent these major Boxer killers, neutering and spaying is a sure fire way. Neutering your male Boxer will also ensure that he is on his best behaviour at all times. Neutering prevents aggressive and territorial behaviours, and also means that he wont be spending his entire walk hunting for a partner. So, if you want to prevent these embarrassments, get your Boxer neutered early on! See also Is Your Boxer Bored? Millions of animals are euthanised every year because there are simply not enough willing owners to cater for endless litters of puppies. Having this done will prevent unwanted litters and ultimately save the lives of millions of baby Boxer that would end up in shelters. Remember… No, the procedure is not painful. Female Boxers can reproduce as young as four months old, and male Boxers can as of six months. JingleBell: What is the best age to have a male boxer neutered? My male boxer puppy is 6 months old. What is a good age to have him fixed? I'm afraid to stunt his growth. I also have a female boxer that is spayed. He has started being aggressive towards her. Nothing serious, just rough houses a bit too much. Will getting him fixed help this? Answers and Views: Answer by rescue member Way time — get him neutered. The younger the dog, the less it bothers him, and the faster he recovers. I've had young dogs like yours neutered by the dozen, they are up and running the same day — the hard part is keeping them relatively calm they usually feel so recovered in a matter of a day. This is a very long answer to what most people think is a great question that only needs a short answer. But, it is not that easy. I am 47 until recently with new research I would spay or neuter my dogs male or female at 4 to 6 months. Often on the very day, they turned four months old. Many say the earliest the better because of this or because of that. Now I see things differently. First only spat or neuter if you in no way whatsoever want puppies. Let me explain. Wanting a puppy is different from wanting puppies. A puppy, you get from a reputable breeder. Littered are generally more than one puppy. No one else. IMO a reputable breeder does not have to show the dog or get any titles in it. A reputable breeder does all. Not all breeders must show dogs. If the breeder cannot get a home for all the puppies, then they should not have bred the dogs. .The more I have seen about this subject from reputable studies the more confident I am in saying the only cancers it really lessens the chance of from what I have read are the ones connected to the items being removed because they are not there to get uterine or testicular cancer. Chances for prostate and breast cancer are lessened since the sex organs removed create hormones that can lead to those cancers. What are the Outcomes of Neutering my Pug Puppy? Fixing a dog is not a solution to straying, aggression, or any one of the many things that many people including vets claim. It is not a wonder cure. Proper training hopefully positive training is what makes for a well-behaved, well-mannered dog of either gender. Rough play is just that, play. Again, if you think it is too rough, correct it. When you adopted the dog, you became its parents. I have seen many people adopt a dog at 8 weeks old and either expect it to be completely trained including ere and poop at that time. I've seen others who flat-out do no training and expect the dog to be obedient. Most often I have seen this in owners of small dogs. All dogs can be trained and bad behavior is bad behavior. If you had two children who played like that, would you just sit back and watch or would you discipline them? Do you oh I have a habit of saying you when I mean a person or owner, I'm not talking specifically about the person answering the question, but everyone have a child and then teach him or her nothing? Do you expect the child to learn not to put their hand in a fire, walk in front of cars, stay with you in a store, or even play nice with siblings and friends from the day they are 8 weeks old and forever without intervention, teaching, and discipline? Okay, the same thing with a dog. You don't take a misbehaving boy to the doctor and say I'm having problems with him and have great difficulty controlling him, please take off his balls. Not funny but I know some readers are now cringing or laughing. It is not good for all dogs to get fixed early in life. Well, some of those hormones are necessary for development. Sometimes it does affect the size. Some dogs get larger and others don't grow as much when they are snipped not all but some , but the hormones for muscle development, tendons, and connective tissue are not all present at the time they are needed if they are fixed too soon. Females get an extra umph of the hormones in their heats seasons, earthen, or whatever you want to call it that is why it is so important to allow a female to have their first heats before breeding the first time. Without these hormones, the joints and related tissues do not develop as well as they can, especially in larger breeds! In the smaller breeds, who generally do not have hip dysplasia problems, it is not as important, so they can generally be snipped earlier. This allows proper development. The development could be key to functioning longer in life without pain…running with their human jogging partner, playing with friends, etc. If you cannot do the 2 years, then try your best for one year. This is done to improve behavior and prevent reproduction. Neutering can be done as early as 8 weeks of age. This is a very important surgery that should only be done by a veterinarian who has experience performing this type of procedure. The surgery involves removing the testicles so that sperm production will cease and no more hormones will be produced by these glands. It also helps with behavioral problems in dogs that originate from sexual frustration, such as mounting and humping. Yes, boxers do calm down after being spayed or neutered, but this is not the whole picture you should know. It may help reduce some unwanted behaviors such as roaming and marking, but there are many other factors that can contribute to these behaviors as well. You see, boxers are a very active breed. They need lots of exercise and playtime in order to release the energy that comes with being young, active dogs. Benefits of Neutering a Boxer Dog While it does seem cruel, there are actually a number of benefits when you neuter your boxer, most health-related. A study has concluded that the lifespan of dogs increased after being neutered. Its findings suggest that dogs will live an average of .When dogs are neutered, they are less likely to develop prostate cancer, which can be a serious condition in older dogs. Neutering your pup also reduces his risk of contracting a urinary tract infection, which can be painful and inconvenient. It can also help prevent your boxer from developing testicular cancer. This reduces the risk of contracting a contagious disease like canine herpes, which can be easily transmitted during mating season. Neutering your boxer dog also makes him less aggressive and less likely to bite, or start humping when they are young puppies. Cons of Neutering a Boxer Dog There are a few cons to neutering your boxer dog, and these should be considered carefully before making a final decision. The first one is that there is a slight risk of your dog developing a joint disorder as a result of neutering. This frequently occurs in large breed dogs when they are neutered too young before one year old. Hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and cranial cruciate ligament injuries are examples of common joint issues that can develop. The fact that a change in behavior is not always assured after neutering your boxer is possibly another drawback. After surgery, some dogs actually become more aggressive, but this is more of an anomaly than the rule. It rarely happens to most dog breeds except spaniels such as the Cocker Spaniel, and it is not a health risk but rather just an aesthetic one. Also: best age to spay a female boxer The best age to neuter a male boxer or spay a female boxer is after 2 years old. Most veterinarians will advise neutering a Boxer between the ages of 6 and 12 months as they have not reached sexual maturity and can be easily trained to be housebroken. In fact, this also becomes commonly regurgitated around the internet in articles which is not that accurate. A study discovered that this is not always the case and should be looked at on a breed-to-breed basis just like Dobermans need to be neutered after 1 year of age. Neutering your male boxer does not affect his ability to fight or bite, but it does reduce his aggression toward other dogs. It also reduces the risk of prostate disease and testicular cancer later in life. There are some articles and comments out there that talk about neutering your dog before 6 months, which is very dangerous advice to follow. There runs a high risk of your boxer experiencing significant side effects of neutering. Neutering your boxer dog before 6 months of age can result in his height and growth being stunted and may also affect his ability to develop strong bones and muscles, which can be problematic if he is expected to put on a lot of weight as an adult. They will be able to tell you precisely when your boxer is ready to be neutered and help you determine whether the benefits outweigh the risks. Now, thanks to technology, you can speak to one without leaving your home. When should we neuter dogs? March 01, When should we neuter dogs? It depends By R. Scott Nolen Published on February 18, Spaying and neutering pet dogs and cats not meant for breeding has long been the standard in veterinary medicine. Yet, recent research linking gonadectomy to higher incidences of certain diseases in neutered dogs is raising questions about a procedure once thought relatively safe. Earlier this year, the AVMA House of Delegates devoted a portion of its Veterinary Information Forum to this issue after two studies published in the journal Frontiers in Veterinary Science in July reported associations between neutering and higher rates of joint disorders and cancers in some mixed-breed dogs and dogs of particular breeds. The team of veterinary researchers from the University of California-Davis also reported certain dog breeds were at greater risk of disease if spayed or neutered before 1 year of age and, especially, if spayed or neutered before 6 months of age. For instance, the recovery time is longer and the procedure is more expensive for older dogs than for younger dogs undergoing ovariohysterectomy. Retention of deciduous teeth is not uncommon in toy dog breeds, and retained teeth have frequently been removed at the same time the dog was neutered. That may not be possible if gonadectomy is delayed until after the first year. Science says? Veterinarians and the animal shelter community have long promoted neutering pet dogs and cats not meant for breeding, most notably to prevent litters of unwanted puppies and kittens. Although various alternatives to gonad removal exist, such as vasectomies and hysterectomies, gonadectomy is by far the most common procedure practiced by veterinarians. Still, the relationship between sex hormones and canine health is not well understood. But there is reason to suspect that absence may contribute to negative health outcomes as well. Benjamin Hart led the research teams that produced the recently published studies. The first, published July 7, looked at joint disorders, cancers, and urinary incontinence associated with spaying and neutering in 35 dog breeds. The second, published July 31, covered joint disease and cancers in mixed-breed dogs of various weights. Each individual animal must be considered, and veterinarians should inform the client about all the issues and let them make an informed decision about their pet. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Both reports provide guidelines for minimizing disease risks associated with spaying and neutering. For example, the recommendation for female Golden Retrievers, given the increased occurrence of cancers regardless of age at the time of spaying, is to leave females intact or spay them at 1 year of age and remain vigilant for cancers. Hart explained. As with all studies linking gonadectomy with higher disease rates, the UC-Davis studies have been criticized. During the HOD information forum, Dr. The American College of Theriogenologists and the Society for Theriogenology maintain that companion animals not intended for breeding should be spayed or neutered unless the procedure is contraindicated. Moreover, any potential consequences to the individual animal must be weighed against the necessity for population management. Kendall Houlihan, an AVMA assistant director of animal welfare The simple fact is that there is no single recommendation concerning gonadectomy that is appropriate for every dog. There are just too many variables to account for, including breed, sex, age, and body type. Whether to spay or neuter must therefore be decided on a case-by-case basis. During the HOD reference committee discussions, Dr. Rens van Dobbenburgh, president of the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe, said similar talks were taking place across the Atlantic, where opinions on the timing of spay or neuter are mixed. The good news is there is no shortage of resources to help veterinarians in that decision-making process. Its purpose is to provide WSAVA members the latest information to aid them in making recommendations as to the most appropriate approach to neutering in their patients.

We do not focus on one venue of competition but strive to surround ourselves with Goldens that will be multi-functional — dogs that can warm your lap during the week but then become serious competitors on the weekend. Although we are not currently breeding, we have always given careful consideration to our choices in the hopes of producing dogs of exceptional quality. We also have dogs working as therapy and service dogs. All of the dogs that have been used in our breeding program are screened for hereditary diseases common in the Golden Retriever. Puppy pads Create a Schedule Golden Retriever pups would do well with a schedule. Dogs live with a routine, and they are easy to train by having one. For this reason, make a schedule of the things you need to do regularly. Eventually, your pup will learn the routine events and will make itself adept at them. It will help you prepare for your pet, especially in the first few days of living together. As you allow your pet to adjust, do your best to create a stress-free environment for it. Always supervise it as it familiarizes itself with its new home. It can even grow louder as they age. Moderate Training Golden Retrievers responds well, especially to positive reinforcement. Squeaky Toys Out of all toys, your pet will love the squeaky ones. For this reason, prepare for a lot of loud squeaks every time your pet is active. Thus, in picking your pet, you may want to consider getting it from the best. Tells you any health problems A good breeder will tell you any significant health problems in any of the dogs he or she bred. Asks more questions than you A good breeder would ask for more items from you than you would for him or her. Not in a hurry to send off A good breeder is not in a hurry to send the puppies off and get your money. He or she will even show you other breeders and veterinarians caring for their dogs. Requires expectations on both sides A good breeder will create a contract that offers not only what he or she expects from you. More than that, he or she will also show what you can expect from him or her. Sends puppies properly A good breeder will never send a puppy in a compartment and without any responsible person to go with it. Works only with one or two breeds A good breeder works only with a single or a couple of species. Shows breeding experience A good breeder shows her dogs in recognized confirmation shows.
