As my website states, I am not like other breeders in many ways. First, I want to explain how the average Labrador breeder raises their pups the first few weeks of their life. They expect these tiny pups without their senses fully developed to find their way to a nipple without being smothered. I understand that this is what dogs do in the wild, but this is also why many puppies die in the wild. .Then, on top of that they hope that each of the pups will get enough milk on it's own to make it through the 1st week of life. They expect the Lab mom to do all the work, so they don't have to lose a wink of sleep. This is all very sad to say but it's true. I, on the other hand, care about each individual pup's life, I care that each and every one of them survive so that they can live a full and happy life. So, I make sure that each individual pup is given outstanding care. How do I do this? I began with hand raising each one of my pups the first 3 weeks of its life. What do I mean by hand raise my pup? It means I personally make sure each individual pup is fed every 2 hours- 24 hours a day, the first 2 weeks of its life. At feeding time, I make sure each puppy gets on a nipple so they don't have to struggle to find one. I make sure that each puppy gets an adequate amount of milk. Then, once I see that they have been well fed. I pick up one pup at a time and have the mom lick it to go potty. And then I put them in their little crib to ensure they are safe and not smooth by the mother until the next feeding 2 hours later. At three weeks, we feed the pups every 4 hours. But at this point, even though the pups eyes and ears are open. I still supervise the feeding to ensure that each pup is adequately fed and again not smothered by it's mother. I believe in giving these pups outstanding care. Even if that means that I lose a lot of sleep, and even if it ends up just saving one pups life. That one pup could be the next Labrador that I get a testimony about how it brought so much joy into one person's life! So, in the end, all the work and lack of sleep is worth it. I am up now about to give my pups their 3 am feeding. Hope this helps you all understand what is put into each litter. She is from our breeding between Cash and Bella, both parents are health certified. Sugar is overnight crate trained and has some other training. When the pups are 6 to 7 weeks of age, I will contact you to set up an appointment for you choose and pick up your pup at 8 weeks of age. If you had first deposit in for a male pup you will have first choice of all the males available. If you have second deposit in, you will have the next appointment to choose from the males that are left and so forth. This order of reserving pups would also apply to the females as well. We honor all reservations on a puppy by not selling the puppy to anyone else. So if you are interested in a litter and don't want to make a reservation until "you see the litter". An appointment can be made to view the left-over puppies when they are 10 weeks old, and no sooner. No appointments will be allowed at a younger age, except for the families that made a prior reservation. We will not allow our baby puppies to be exposed to potential life threatening viruses from people that are just "shopping". We wait until all puppies that have been reserved are safely home, before we show any left-over puppies. Any left-over pups will be at least 10 weeks of age before any viewings are allowed, to insure they have at least had 2 sets of shots in. It is sensitive to the tone of one's voice and will not listen if it senses that it is stronger minded than its owner, however it will also not respond well to harsh discipline. Owners need to be calm, yet possess an air of natural authority. It are not the type of dog to live outside in a kennel, as it enjoys being with its owners and dislikes being alone. It is generally friendly toward strangers, and is excellent with children. The Standard Poodle is good with other dogs. Some can make good guard dogs. Make sure you are this dog's firm, consistent, confident pack leader , providing daily pack walks to avoid separation anxiety and other unwanted behavior issues. The Standard Poodle is over 15 inches at the highest point of the shoulders. Health Problems A long-lived breed, Poodles are, nevertheless, subject to many genetic diseases. Runny eyes, cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy, which may cause blindness. Hip dysplasia and ear infections are also common. They are prone to Von Willebrand's Disease. Brown Poodles tend to become prematurely gray. Prone to bloat , so it is wise to feed your Standard small meals a day, rather than one large one. Living Conditions If given enough exercise, Standard Poodles are relatively inactive indoors. They will be okay in an apartment if they are sufficiently exercised. A small yard will suffice. Exercise The Standard Poodle needs to be taken on a daily walk. Although they adore water and love to go for walks, Poodles are not demanding as far as exercise goes, so long as they get their walk in. They however, will keep in better spirits and be fitter if given regular opportunities to run and play off the leash in a safe area. The Standard retains its sporting instincts, has great stamina, and needs more activity than the smaller varieties. Life Expectancy About or more years Litter Size About puppies Grooming Extensive grooming is needed if the dog is to be shown. Poodles must be bathed regularly and clipped every six to eight weeks. Clean and check the ears frequently for wax or mites or infection and pull out hairs growing inside the ear canal. The teeth need regular scaling. Since the coat does not shed it needs to be clipped. There are several different types of Poodle clips. The most common for pet owners is an easy care clip called a "pet clip," "puppy clip" or "lamb clip," where the coat is cut short all over the body. Popular show clips are the English saddle and the Continental clip, where the rear half of the body is shaved, bracelets are left around the ankles, and pom-poms are left on the tails and hips. The AKC standard allows for a dog under a year old to be shown in a show-style puppy clip which has special requirements such as a pom-pom on the end of the tail. Other clip styles are the modified continental clip, town and country clip, kennel or utility clip, summer clip, and the Miami of bikini clip. Poodles shed little to no hair and are good for allergy sufferers. Origin The Poodle has been known throughout Western Europe for at least years and is depicted in 15th century paintings and in bas-reliefs from the 1st century. France has taken a claim on the origin, but the AKC gives the honor to Germany, where they say it was used as a water retrieval dog. Other claims have been Denmark, or the ancient Piedmont. What is certain is that the dog was a descendant of the now-extinct French Water Dog, the Barbet and possibly the Hungarian Water Hound. The name "Poodle" most likely came out of the German word "Pudel," which means "one who plays in water. They would leave hair on the leg joints to protect them from extreme cold and sharp reeds. The hunters in Germany and France used the Poodle as a gundog and as a retriever of waterfowl and to sniff out truffles laying underground in the woods. The French started using the breed as a circus performer because of the dog's high intelligence and trainability. The breed became very popular in France, which led to the common name "French Poodle," but the French people actually called the breed the "Caniche," meaning "duck dog. In the 18th century smaller poodles became popular with royal people. The three official sizes are the Toy, Miniature and Standard Poodle. They are considered one breed and are judged by the same written standard but with different size requirements. Some of the Poodle's talents include: retrieving, agility, watchdog, competitive obedience and performing tricks. Life Span Did You Know? Although the Poodle is the national dog of France, they actually originated in Germany over years ago where they were commonly used as a duck hunter. Their curly coat protected them from the elements and they were bred for their excellent swimming skills, high intelligence, and incredible retrieval skills. The Poodle comes in three sizes — Standard, Miniature, and Toy. Throughout history, this dog breed has served many purposes. From living in the lap of luxury as companions to nobility to working out in the field as a valuable hunting companion to entertaining people in circuses around the world, the Poodle is right at home. Although they are more popular as a companion dog, the Poodle still maintains their athleticism and working dog instincts. Poodles are known for their intelligence, cheerful disposition, and sensitive nature. They are versatile dogs that make great family companions. They tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Due to their sensitive nature, they tend to be a better fit for older children who understand how to approach and interact with a dog appropriately. The Standard Poodle also tends to be quite energetic until they are about two years old and may be prone to knock over small children in their excitement. Standard Poodles also tend to make great watchdogs and have some protective instincts. Without proper socialization, they can become skittish, nervous, and wary of strangers. Making sure any puppy is socialized early and often helps them grow into a confident, well-rounded dog. Standard Poodles are highly adaptable dogs. Their energy level tends to make them better-suited for larger homes with room for them to run. But, they can adapt well to apartment living as long as they receive the exercise, mental stimulation, and affection that they need. They tend to do well in most climates. As with most dog breeds, they are sensitive to very hot and very cold weather. These dogs are in-tune with their owners and thrive on human companionship and affection, so they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. Poodles are a relatively healthy dog breed, but there are some potential health concerns to be aware of. Because of their larger, barrel-chested body type, the Standard Poodle is also at risk for bloat. Responsible breeders will screen and test their stock to ensure the genetic propensity for breed-related conditions is not passed along to the puppies. Poodles are highly intelligent, sensitive, and eager to please their owners. They are highly trainable, pick up things quickly, and are a good fit for owners of any experience level. Because they are sensitive and in-tune with their owners, they respond best to consistent, positive training techniques focused on rewards and praise. Poodle coats are curly or corded and come in a wide variety of colors. Although Poodles are known for their low-shedding, hypoallergenic coats, their coats still require a lot of maintenance. Keeping your Poodle in a short clip can help reduce daily maintenance, but still requires regular professional grooming every four to six weeks to maintain it. A longer coat requires daily brushing in order to prevent matting in addition to professional grooming every four to six weeks. Regular professional grooming often helps with this as nail trimming should be done monthly, at least, to keep nails from growing too long. Dental care for dogs , like brushing their teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day, is essential to protecting them from painful dental diseases like gum disease and tooth decay. You, your dog, and your groomer will thank you for it! Who knows? If you ensure these experiences stay positive, they could even become a bonding time that your dog enjoys. But whatever you call them, the Goldendoodle is an adorable, affectionate, intelligent, and lively breed of dog. These codes refer to the genetic makeup of your dog. How do you trim a Goldendoodle's face? For around the eyes, start with blunt-tipped scissors, gently trimming away the hair above them. Cut at an angle, like a downward V. Since the cut line will be blunt, a pair of thinning shears will help it look shaggier. Next, tackle the beard by brushing your dog's fur downward and creating an oval shape with the blunt-tipped scissors. Again, fluff up anything too blunt with the thinning shears. Then, brush the top upwards and trim away anything too long. Finally, brush her ears and trim away scraggly fur, finishing with the thinning shears. How long does a Goldendoodle live? Like their poodle parents, Goldendoodles are fairly long-lived dogs, with an average lifespan of 10 to 15 years. The Golden Retriever is well known for their mellow, happy go lucky personality and their intelligence. The Poodle is known as a very intelligent dog with a very loving personality. When careful breeding practices are implemented, the English Goldendoodle makes the perfect companion. They are typically a mild mannered dog with a moderate energy level. Their ears are well placed as well which gives the English Goldendoodles a rounder look in their face. This is a large part of why we have chosen to go with the English Golden Retrievers in our breeding program. Every breeder creates their own look and we focus on bringing you the prettiest English Goldendoodles possible. Every puppy has a unique and different look but in general, they have that round face, stocky body and beautiful stance with the tail set similar to that of an English Golden Retriever. They typically have a fluffy, to wavy coat that is low to non shedding. We have been breeding English Goldendoodles for many years now and we know the combinations of parents that work well to produce stunning puppies. Breeding is an art and creating that great look without compromising on temperament and health is key to bringing you a beautiful puppy with a great personality. Finding a breeder who produces the look you are wanting in your Doodle is critical. Sizes We breed a variety of different Doodle sizes. The estimated size of your Doodle is determined by the size of both parents. Standard Doodles pounds and inches tall - This is the result of breeding a full sized Standard Poodle with an English Golden Retriever or an English Goldendoodle. Medium Doodles pounds and inches tall - We have Moyen Medium Poodles here that we breed to full sized Doodles or Retrievers. This results in a nice medium sized companion. They come in either F1, F1b or Multigen generations. Mini Doodles pounds and inches tall - This is the result of any number of combinations depending on the size of the parents. It is not possible to have an F1 Tiny Doodle because breeding the smallest Poodle possible to a full sized Golden Retriever will still give no guarantees that the puppy will be in the pound range. Tiny Doodles only come in the F1b generation at Doodle Creek. These dogs typically have low to non shedding coats. Some will have the straighter coats with a loose wave to it. These coats will sometimes be low shedding. Others will have the fleecy coats and will shed very little to nothing at all. If you are wanting strong Retriever characteristics and you are okay with possibly some shedding, this would be a great option. If you have allergies, you may want to consider the F1b or Multigen breedings. These dogs will quite often look very similar to the F1 English Goldendoodles in that many still keep that nice, fleecy coat type. The litters normally have a few with the fleecy coat types and a few with the curly coat types. The fleecy coat typed F1b puppies are typically extremely low to non shedding. The F1b is an excellent choice for those who suffer from allergies. Multigen English Goldendoodles - Through our years of experience, we have now come to the point where we use our trusted genetics and we will breed two totally unrelated Goldendoodles together. We do all the proper DNA testing to ensure that we are getting the low to non shedding offspring from these matings. We have found that the Mulitgens are just as good as the F1b for those with allergies as they are also low to non shedding. The advantage of breeding Mulitgen English Goldendoodles here at Doodle Creek is that we are able to get more of the colours we are looking for in our puppies such as the tri colour, black and white, brown and white, or the merle. Coat types Our English Goldendoodles have several different coat types. Most are very low to non shedding. They turn into a loose curled coat as an adult and have a very soft feel. They are low to non shedding. The curly coat is similar to that of a poodle. They are typically non shedding and are wonderful for allergies. They get that beautiful, messy look to them and are very attractive looking as adults. They will often be low shedding but shed much less than a Golden Retriever. In the photos below we have posted the puppy photo on the left and one as they became adults on the right. This will give you an idea of what to expect when you get a puppy from either coat type listed here. Goldendoodles with sparkle, from Colorado Australian Goldendoodles What are they? A Goldendoodle is the dog born of a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. They are also known as "North American Retrievers". Why are they? These breeds have been growing in popularity since the mid's. They have what is known as "hybrid vigor". When two healthy dogs of different breeds are bred together the resulting puppies tend to be healthier more vigorous than either parent. This is because even with good breeding practices, purebred dogs are more likely to carry the same recessive genes which can lead to genetic disorders such as hip dysplasia. Also, in Goldendoodles, the combination of the calm, sweet golden retriever and the non-shedding, intelligent poodle creates what some have called the perfect dog. Combining a well bred Goldendoodle with a well bred Labradoodle also produces a wonderful, healthy dog. History First there were the Australian Labradoodles which were developed in Australia in the late 's as a service dog especially for people with allergies who couldn't have a Labrador due to their shedding. Golden Retriever lovers began developing the Goldendoodle in the mid's, producing a soft and shaggy coated dog that has won people's hearts the world over. These dogs have joined the Labradoodle as being intelligent, competent, low to non-shedding working service dogs, and field dogs as well as family companions. At Aspen Hill Doodles, we began breeding Goldendoodles in .We are one of the first reputable breeders of Goldendoodles in Colorado. We have developed several strong lines over the years. Grandparents and Great-grandparents etc. What do they look like? Goldendoodles, Double Doodles and Australian Goldendoodles typically have a shaggy-dog look and can vary in color, size and coat quality. We call the look of this type of goldendoodle the "goldendoodle" type. In some generations, the pups look more like their Golden Retriever relatives see our F1 Goldendoodle Retriever section , we call the look of this type of goldendoodle the "retriever" type. When a Golden Retriever is crossed with a Poodle, it is called an F1 cross first generation hybrid , or an F1 Goldendoodle. The coat will vary between looking like a wavy coated retriever to a relaxed-curl poodle. This cross has a typical "shaggy-dog" look. Most first generation Goldendoodles either don't shed or shed lightly. Some people with mild allergies are OK with F1 Goldendoodles. Here are two of Penny's F1 Goldendoodle pups, showing examples of size, color and coat. On the left is "Gucci", she's a 35 pound, apricot colored, wavy coated Medium. Her coat is unclipped. On the right is "Bogie", he's a 60 pound, cream colored, wavy coated Standard. His coat has been clipped. The B is for Backcross because the Goldendoodle has been bred back to one of it's parent breeds. It's considered first generation F1B because one parent is one of the parent breeds. F1B Goldendoodles will have a generally curlier coat than F1 Goldendoodles and are usually non-shedding. They are recommended for families with mild allergies to dogs. People who have moderate to severe allergies to dogs, would probably be safest getting a pure poodle. Rocket is an example of a white colored, wavy coated medium F1B Goldendoodle. Bindi and Cloudy are his parents. He weighs about 30 pounds. Finley is an example of a cream colored, curly coated mini F1B Goldendoodle. Bindi and Ximo are her parents. She weighs about 20 pounds F1 Goldendoodle Retrievers Technically a Goldendoodle crossed back to a Golden Retriever is also a Backcross Goldendoodle hybrid dog bred back to one of the parent breeds , but in the Goldendoodle world the name of F1B is reserved for Goldendoodles bred back to Poodles only not bred back to Golden Retrievers. We call the pups F1 Goldendoodle Retrievers. They are considered first generation F1 because one parent is one of the parent breeds. When we select the F1B parent for an F1 Goldendoodle Retriever litter, we select a dog with many of the coat characteristics a poodle. We select a dog whose body build and temperament are similar to a Golden Retriever. Our F1 Goldendoodle Retrievers come in two types. The first type look very similar to Golden Retrievers, but they enjoy the hybrid vigor of Goldendoodles. The second type look very similar to wavy coated F1 Goldendoodles. We have found that the F1 Goldendoodle Retrievers that resemble Golden Retrievers Retriever types are just as likely to be low to non-shedding as their F1 Goldendoodle Retriever Goldendoodle type littermates. They are medium F1 Goldendoodle Retrievers. April and Botza are their parents. They all weigh between 30 and 45 pounds. Stella and Lucy are the Retriever type of Goldendoodle Retriever. Moose is a Goldendoodle type of Goldendoodle Retriever. This cross goes back to the parent breed of Poodle, so we are able to use the "B" for backcross. The puppies from this cross will be very similar to a "regular" F1B Goldendoodle, although they may not be quite as curly and they may shed slightly more. Occasionally a litter of this generation will have both Goldendoodle type and Retriever type puppies see F1 Goldendoodle Retrievers. F2 Goldendoodles Some breeders breed two F1 Goldendoodles together. This combination is called an F2 cross and produces the most variation in coat, from a coat that looks almost completely like a Golden Retriever's, to a coat that looks almost completely like a Poodle's. Multigenerational Goldendoodles The general rule for naming generations of Goldendoodles is that a pup will be considered 1 generation higher than its parent with the lowest generation. For example an F1 crossed with an F2 would be an F2 1 generation higher than the F1 parent. If two Goldendoodles are bred together and one parent is an F1B, or a Multigen, the puppies are considered Multigenerational, or Multigens. Usually Multigenerational Goldendoodles are low to non-shedding and can have wavy or curly coats, depending on the parents. Some people with mild allergies are OK with Multigenerational Goldendoodles. An F1 litter is the first generation cross between these two breeds. Each breeding will depend on the parents we have chosen. Generally we're aiming to breed litters with excellent genetic diversity and look for complimentary characteristics in both parents to produce beautiful, healthy pups with sound temperaments which will become outstanding companion dogs. The litters we have produced have been fantastic! Casey Bear left and Kiedis right are littermates. They both weigh just under 30 pounds. As with the F1 Australian Goldendoodles, the size and color of each breeding will depend on the parent dogs. We continue to breed with good health and temperament being our primary goals. We consider them F1 because they're being bred back to a Golden Retriever. Because they have Australian Labradoodle in them, they will also have genetic material contributed from the Australian Labradoodle parent breeds listed at the top of this page. This generation has very similar characteristics as the F1 Goldendoodle Retriever generation see above. Their coats will be low to non-shedding. Their size and color will depend on the parent dogs. They will have the cheerful, obedient temperament of our other generations of goldendoodles. They will have the cheerful, trainable temperament of our other generations of goldendoodles. Goldendoodle Colors The color will depend largely on the poodle genes, and can be almost any color including white and black and in between. Some may have other markings such as being "abstract" which is a solid colored dog with one or more small white markings, "parti-colored" spotted , or "phantom-colored" which have markings like a Doberman. Our abstract pups' white markings, are usually on the center of the chest, sometimes on the paws and sometimes on the center of the face or head. Well, it is a year later.And we have gotten far more that what I had hoped for. Physically, he is an amazing example of a German Shepherd. He is a solid pounds, with incredible muscle tone, and a massive head. He has yet to start filling out. I expect him to be at least pounds. In all honesty, I have been a bit startled by how quickly he grew, and how large he has become. My veterinarian, who has been practicing for 35 years, has remarked that she has never seen another dog like him. She is very impressed with his bone structure, his stance, and how proportional he is. His strong, straight back; his massive head, his size, and his strength are all things that she has noted. She has suggested that I breed him, because she believes that it would be a shame not to pass his genetics on.He is, quite simply.When we take him out in public, he creates quite a stir. People routinely approach us to compliment him, and how beautiful he is. He has been described as "gorgeous", "regal", and "majestic". The fact that our eight year old can control him in public only adds to people's fascination with him. He is very obedient, and was easy to train.He is very intelligent. He is affectionate, very loving, and very playful. Despite his size, he is quite gentle with those he loves. His protective drive is very appropriate. He is wary of strangers until properly introduced. He physically places himself between my children and other people. After being taught by our older shepherd, he now regularly patrols the perimeter of our property. I have included a few pictures. This may be why silver grey dogs are less common. Washed out colors, including blues and livers, are considered a serious fault. The white coat color is undesirable within the official description, and even leads to disqualification from the show ring. Where Do They Come From? The black and silver German Shepherd is essentially the same as any other color of German Shepherd Dog. The history of the German Shepherd Dog, of course, can be traced back to Germany. The Genetics of the Silver German Shepherd Coat color genetics are complex, with the exact genes responsible for silver coloration yet to be fully identified. Within the German Shepherd breed, the gene for sable is dominant over all other colors and patterns. The first registered German Shepherd Dog was sable in color. While you may see a working silver sable Shepherd, that would be a very unusual color combination. Different colors Bear in mind as well that the final color of a puppy will only be clear once the outer coat has fully developed. This means that a relatively dark coated puppy could develop into a mature black and silver German Shepherd Dog. They are large dogs, weighing between 50 — 90 pounds and standing between 22 — 26 inches tall. And have a muscular, strong body, with pointed ears and a dense double coat. You may have seen parent dogs advertised as black saddle silver German Shepherds, but what does that actually mean? Any German Shepherd Dog with silver coloration is less likely to have a silverback German Shepherd pattern. Grooming The double coat of the German Shepherd does require brushing every few days to remove loose hairs. They will also shed twice a year, leaving a significant amount of hair behind! Color vs Temperament There is no link between the gene for silver fur and the typical temperament traits of the dog. German Shepherds have a reputation for being fiercely intelligent, intensely loyal, and enthusiastic about work or exercise. This is a brave and courageous breed, as well as being more aloof than some others. They are good around children they know, and often take on a guardian role for those within their own family. Training and Activity All German Shepherds are intelligent dogs, regardless of their coat patterns. Their high level of intelligence means they are a joy to train, and enjoy positive, reward-based training methods. These are active dogs, and require regular daily exercise. Mental stimulation is just as important as physical exercise for German Shepherds. Be sure to challenge yours with activities such as agility, or learning tricks, as a way to keep both their mind and body stimulated. Unfortunately, all German Shepherds can be prone to a range of health conditions. Hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia are both common in the breed. Parent dogs should have been given a score for their hips and elbows. By selecting parent dogs with high scores, you can reduce the chances of your puppy developing these conditions. This is the result of abnormal cartilage growth. Other health conditions that can affect this breed include: Degenerative myelopathy. How does silver relate to black and tan? Black and tan German Shepherds come in three varieties. Tan with a black extended blanket Black and tan bicolor — Tan markings are minimal at points of eyes, at the shoulders, and minimal streaks on the toes. Some dogs have markings more like Rottweilers, with tan or silver on the front of the chest and extending up the insides of the hind legs. Genetic testing may distinguish Shepherds with extended blankets versus bicolor dogs. Blanketed dogs have the RALY gene present. Experts discovered a separate gene, one they call RALY, that is responsible for the saddle pattern in black and tan dogs like the German Shepherd and Lakeland Terrier. Creeping tan affects silver the same as it would brown or red. Some tan-pointed dogs end up with little brown or silver creeping and thus have extended blankets. Others have a very small saddle. Since many of the coat variations in German Shepherds act on the dark pigment or eumelanin, you will describe dilutions and other modifications just as you would a black and tan German Shepherd. Therefore, blue dogs can be blue and tan, solid blue, and blue bicolor. Sable dogs can also be blue, where dilution affects the black banding. The liver acts exactly the same as blue, whereby chocolate brown or lighter browns replace areas of black. Silver is a modification of reds and tans or phaeomelanin pigmentation, so dogs are black and silver. Silver bi-colors are predominantly black with minimal points of silver. Silver and black dogs can have extended saddles and blankets, just like their tan counterparts. Just as there are not fawn German Shepherds, silver does not usually present as a solid color. Solid gray dogs have a separate gene at work and are blue, not silver. A rare individual may show minimal black markings and may appear solid gray. If you look closely at these dogs, you will see the faint hint of a saddle or black banding or ticking of a sable or agouti German Shepherd. You can distinguish cream and silver versus blue or Isabella dogs by looking at their eyes. Silver dogs have no disruption of eumelanin and will have dark eyes. Blue and Isabella Shepherds, on the other hand, have light-colored eyes. Can you register and show a silver German Shepherd? You register silver dogs with the AKC as black and silver dogs. They have full access to all conformation exhibitions and other shows that the American Kennel Club offers. However, silver is a dilute color, and judges penalize it as a fault. Even without penalties, judges consistently show a preference for bright and rich colors encouraged by the breed standard. Silver is an accepted color variation of the German Shepherd Dog. Silver can infiltrate sable, but the AKC simply classifies those dogs as sable. They do not distinguish the various shades of sable or the presence of brown versus pale tans or creams. A fancier may use the term silver sable. But throughout the registries and show circuits, silver mostly refers to the black and silver dog. However, the AKC does differentiate black and silver from black and cream, which may be difficult for most people to do. In the end, black and silver are quite different from black and tan, but its distinction from black and cream is much more subjective. Black and silver dogs may more closely approach white with less of the reddish or yellowish hue that cream-colored Shepherds have. How do silver German Shepherds differ from the breed standard? Black and silver Shepherds are 22 to 26 inches tall and weigh 50 to pounds. Females should be somewhat finer in their overall impression. Silver Shepherds, like all Alsatians, have a distinctive head with upright ears and a domed forehead. White Shepherds often have much less of a stop. Otherwise, all colors of Shepherds have a moderately long body length to height ratio, a short to medium dense double coat, and a long, plush tail. Silver Shepherds are usually aloof with strangers, using inherent discretion and degree of socialization to detect threats. They should be polite, only attacking when they have exhausted all other means of intimidation. A silver German Shepherd is rare. Silver shepherd work in the police force, search and rescue, and the military, where the emphasis on silver German Shepherd appearance is not a factor. As family dogs , German Shepherds are loyal and affectionate. They have a tendency to bond with one person, although they extend their protection to the entire household. Persistent work will help German Shepherds bond with multiple family members and handlers. Like any German Shepherd, silver Shepherds are intelligent and bold with excellent guarding instincts. They require a trainer who can carry out commands and positive reinforcement consistently and confidently. German Shepherds may challenge an individual who shows uncertainty or otherwise fails to gain their respect. They do not have any more health challenges than Shepherds of other colors.
