Near-white Golden Retrievers also known as English Golden Retrievers are increasingly sought-after by dog-lovers because of their stunning sheen and easy-going temperament. Still, why do some Golden Retriever puppies pop out nearly white while others remain a traditional golden-yellow? And are lighter variants legitimate to the history of the breed? The short answer bears good news: White-coated Golden Retrievers are true to the breed because the American Kennel Club does officially recognize them. What is an English Golden Retriever? The latter color is typically associated with American Golden Retrievers, while the former links back to English lineage. Though bloodlines become blurry with time and cross-breeding, most genetic experts can trace light-golden Retrievers back to the U. Do not yell at your puppy or chase him. If you are busy and cannot totally supervise your puppy, put him in a contained area, where he won't make a mistake, or tie him to the door knob of the room you are in. When supervision is not possible gone to work all day? Provide a small area to contain your puppy IE a crate or small bathroom or fenced off corner of the garage. Do not leave food and water with your puppy and do not load your puppy down with a lot of doggie cookies. If you are gone 8 hours, it would be good to find someone who would take him for a walk and give him some water. Take Your Puppy Out Take your puppy out to the desired toilet area and stand quietly while your puppy investigates the area for the "right" spot. This is not play time! Do not distract your puppy by trying to talk to him into hurrying up. If he does not go potty during that time , return him to the house and contain him in a crate for a half hour, then try again. When he does start to potty, quietly and calmly praise him while he is in the process of going potty. Use the word you have chosen for this IE "Good Potty", when he is done, you can praise him with more enthusiasm. Learn your puppy's habits. Some puppies need to potty 2 or 3 times in one outing. Urination is often followed by a BM. If the weather is foul and you aren't happy about taking out your puppy, it is very important not to let your puppy sense this. You may create a dog that does not like using the outside to do his business in foul weather. While you are learning your puppy's habits, take him out, every time he wakes up, after he has eaten, and after all play sessions. Help your puppy get outside to the appropriate potty area; follow the preceding instructions for taking your puppy out. Clean the mess with an odor neutralizer. Your puppy's sense of smell is far superior to ours. If it smells like a toilet area to him, he will continue to use that area for a toilet. Do not clean up the mess in front of the puppy. Put the puppy on a leash and calmly bring him to the scene of the accident. Keep the dog to your side, not in front of you. While your puppy is watching.Blot up some of the urine on a tissue and take it and your puppy out to the appropriate toilet area. Place the tissue with the potty on it on the ground, with the puppy watching; Praise the tissue for being in the right area, then leave the tissue there. Clean up the remaining mess as previously stated. Toilet Training How do we toilet train our puppy? Start by taking your puppy to an outside grass or gravel area which is acceptable to you. The puppy will soon learn that this place and the word mean you want it to go to the toilet. Reward your puppy when they use this area for toileting and your puppy will very quickly learn this is where they should go. Praise them every time they toilet outside. I recommend taking your puppy out every hour during the day for the first week. Do spend the time toilet training to get it right. DO NOT chastise accidents. Your puppy is already used to toileting outside on the lawn and has had newspaper and artificial grass as a backup in their pen overnight before they came home with you. Use a crate at night - dogs usually like to be clean and sleep in a clean area so using the crate at night teaches them very quickly to learn to hold on. Stick to a routine - Consistency and Repetition are the key to all training. Be patient and consistent from the start and puppy will learn quickly.
