Look for a boxer puppies for sale McAllen Texas? Here is a brief background of this protective dog with a good sense of humour. History of the Boxer The Boxer dog breed is a descendant of the now-extinct Bullenbeisser a fighting dog with Mastiff ancestry and the Old English Bulldog. He was developed in Germany in the 19th century as hunters of deer, wild boar, and bear. Later on, he was used to guard and drive cattle. The man responsible for the creation of the Boxer breed was Georg Alt, who was from Munich. He crossed a brindle-coloured female Bullenbeisser named Flora with a local dog of unknown breed. In , the first German Boxer dog named Flocki joined a dog show in Munich. After winning the dog show, he was the first-ever Boxer dog to be listed down in the German Studbook. Modern Boxer dogs were believed to be the descendants of Flocki. He was then imported to the United States in and was accepted by the American Kennel Club the following year. The American Boxer Club was established in .In both world wars, various military tasks were given to Boxer dogs including guard dogs, attack dogs, and messenger dogs. The British Boxer Dog Club was then formed in .The Boxer breed was recognised by the Kennel Club shortly thereafter and classified under the Working Group. Versatile and hard-working, these dogs are capable of carrying out different canine work. Boxers are good choices for protection dogs, police dogs, service dogs, and guide dogs for the blind. Temperament and Intelligence of the Boxer puppies McAllen for sale Extremely patient and gentle, the Boxer breed is good with children. But he is recommended for families with older children as he may accidentally knock over toddlers. Befriending other pets is possible if the Boxer dog is properly socialised at a young age. It will keep him from viewing small animals as prey and reduce his tendency to dominate same-sex dogs. Is a Boxer a good family dog? Yes, the Boxer breed is a good family dog. He may look noble and intimidating, but he is actually considered the Joker of the Dog World. Boxer dogs are playful and fun-loving. They love to be part of family activities and be the centre of attention. Are Boxer dogs dangerous? Boxer dogs may be tough-looking, but they are not generally aggressive. They are intelligent but tend to be independent and stubborn. Due to this, they are not suited for first-time owners. Boxer dogs respond better to people that are firm and consistent. The Boxer breed has low-maintenance grooming needs. As an energetic working dog, he has high exercise needs. Boxer dogs tend to be destructive when they are left alone or unable to let off steam. Are there miniature boxers? Yes, but they are rare. While some of these minis may closely resemble their larger counterparts, they may not act similarly. Are boxers hypoallergenic? Unfortunately, boxers are not hypoallergenic. What problems do Boxers have? Boxer dogs are brachycephalic, which means they have flat faces. This trait narrows their airway and causes breathing problems. As a result, Boxers should not be out in the sun for a long time as it can lead to heatstroke. Overexercising them must be avoided too to avoid triggering breathing difficulties. How long do Boxer dogs live? The Boxer dog breed has a short lifespan compared to other dogs. He can only live up to 9—10 years, and this is due to the prevalence of health issues in the breed. When buying a Boxer puppy, look for a reputable breeder whose breeding stock and litters are health-screened. This will help you determine how likely is your chosen Boxer puppy going to develop certain health conditions. They are loyal and devoted, have adoring personalities, and are always ready for a cuddle session. Poochon puppies are joyful little fluffs with bouncy paws and wiggly tails. They are lively and happy pups who love to jump around and they are excellent training students. Sturdy and small, Poochons have an average height between 9 to 15 inches and an average weight between 6 and 17 pounds. This mix results in an intelligent, loving, and outgoing dog who enjoys being around people. They enjoy the company of both humans and other animals. They are generally good with children, although they may become overly excited if not properly socialized from an early age. Overall, Bichpoos make wonderful pets for families and individuals alike. The Bichpoo breed tends to have the best traits of both parent breeds. This makes them easy to train for tricks and obedience. They are also low-shedding, making them a good choice for people with allergies. These pups enjoy spending time with their owner and do not like being left alone for long periods of time. They make great companions for family life or individuals who are looking for an affectionate furry friend. Bichpoo Puppies Health Considerations Though generally very healthy and long-lived — with an average lifespan of around 12 to 14 years — our Bichpoos for sale are not without their unique health concerns. Like every breed of dog, there are a few conditions you should be aware of before you consider purchasing one of our Bichpoo puppies for sale. Understanding the risks allows you to know the signs and prevent small health concerns from turning into big ones. While these conditions can be costly to treat, the good news is that they can often be effectively managed with proper care. Finding a Bichpoo puppy for sale from a reputable breeder can dramatically — although, not eliminate — the risk of your dog developing some of these conditions. The coat is hypoallergenic and does not shed, making the Bichpoo an ideal choice for people with allergies. Although the coat does not require much maintenance, it is important to brush it regularly to prevent mats and tangles from forming. In addition, the coat should be trimmed every few months to keep it looking its best. Meet Bichpoo Puppies for Sale. It is considered a designer dog breed. The mix originated in Australia and started appearing in the late s. The goal was to breed a low or non-shedding dog that was sturdy and active with a temperament for families with children. The Bich-Poo is charming, affectionate, highly intelligent, and eager to please. They tend to get along well with other pets and with children, which makes them a great fit for families. Bich-Poos are also alert watchdogs. They can be prone to excessive barking, but training and socialization as a puppy can curb this tendency. Although they will alert you as a watchdog, they are more interested in making friends, so will not make a good guard dog. Bich-Poos are highly adaptable. They do well in apartments or larger homes as long as they get enough exercise and fit right in with families with children, other pets, or both. They do well in most climates and, as with most dog breeds, caution should be taken with extreme heat or cold. With this first generation cross, many of the health issues associated with the parent breeds are often not a concern. However, there is always the potential for inherited issues. Some of the potential breed-related health concerns are allergies, patella luxation, and progressive retinal atrophy. Because they are a small dog breed, they are also prone to breaks and fractures if dropped. This designer dog breed tends to be highly intelligent. That, paired with their eagerness to please their owner, makes them quick learners and fairly easy to train. They tend to be a good fit for owners of any experience level. Novice owners may want to enroll in obedience and training classes to ensure training and socialization is going as it should. A professional trainer can also help you put a plan in place to eliminate any potential issues with separation anxiety or the nipping that can become a common fear or anxiety response in small dogs. A Bich-Poo will often have a soft and curly coat. If their coat takes on Poodle properties, then it will be low-shedding and hypoallergenic. Common coat colors are typically light, like white or apricot, but can appear in other colors like tan, brown, black, or gray. Professional grooming every six to eight weeks is also a good idea for a healthy coat. You will also want to trim their nails monthly and clean their eyes and ears regularly. Although small, these dogs are robust and energetic. They tend to have bouts of high energy and require regular exercise throughout the day. Although they are active dogs, moderate levels of exercise will be enough to tire them out. Regular exercise, like daily walks and active playtime, will help immensely when your pup gets a sudden spike of energy and starts racing. Some of their energy bursts can seem endless, but, due to their smaller size, they do tend to tire quickly, so these bouts of energy will likely be on the shorter side. After that, your Bich-Poo will likely be ready for a nap and some cuddles. Keeping your dog well-exercised and engaged is key. A bored dog is one that can become restless and start to whine, chew, or bark. This designer dog breed usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and can weigh between pounds. A Bichpoo will generally live between years. Featured Bich-poo Article.

Buy a larger crate so that it continues to comfortably house your dog as they grow. A full-grown German Shepherd needs space to stand, sit, lie down, and stretch. Not to mention, turn around with ease. And most inch crates come with a wire divider for keeping your German Shepherd puppy in a smaller area as they potty train. This can cause joints and muscles to stiffen. An area too small can lead to tightness and stiffness, increase anxiety, and cause long-term joint damage if excessively used. But an area that is too large just takes up extra space. Contrary to what others may say, a puppy or smaller dog will go into a larger crate. You can easily use this metal divider to block off an area that is too large if it bothers you or your German Shepherd. All of the wire kennels on this page are recommended since they have free dividers included except the heavy-duty cage model. Is crating your German Shepherd cruel? For some owners who are new to the notion of crate training, confinement in such a small space might seem cruel or even a punishment. But free-roaming dogs in the wild seek shelter in small, covered spaces for safety from predators and environmental harm. Using the natural history of wild dogs, you can see how German Shepherds can easily be trained to view their kennel or crate as a safe cave or their own private home away from home. You can help them maintain this cozy space since you can take most crates with you wherever you and your German Shepherd go. Your German Shepherd puppy can even be trained to sleep quietly in their crate at night, giving them a warm spot that keeps you from accidentally tripping over them if they were left out and got under your feet. Do you want to learn how to easily crate train your dog using toys? The most common crate varieties are wire crates, plastic crates, and metal reinforced crates for escape artists. Wire crates are great for dogs to travel in or for camping. Keep in mind that wire crates are larger, so they tend to need more space for set-up. I prefer wire crates, as they fold flat for storage and are more economical to purchase. They also tend to last longer and stand up to the wear and tear of life with a German Shepherd. Plastic crates may feel more secure for your dog, as the walls are largely solid compared to the wire crates. But, plastic crates large enough for a German Shepherd tend to be more expensive, not last as long, and are better suited to short times during travel than for more frequent home use. Both plastic and metal crates can be strengthened using strategically placed zip ties to prevent rambunctious puppies and adult dogs from pushing apart the frame. For an escape artist, a rugged not collapsible reinforced preferably welded metal crate is best. These cages are humane when used for short periods of time to keep your German Shepherd from escaping and hurting themselves while unsupervised. They are bulky and need more space than wire or plastic crates, but will last you a lifetime. Some owners are inclined to choose a large-sized crate to give the dog lots of room, but they fail to remember to also make sure they have a wire divider to make the sleeping space smaller. Always opt for a wire divider that you can adjust and move as your German Shepherd grows into her larger crate. Once your dog is fully potty trained a larger crate will prove more useful as they have more room to stretch out and enjoy their comfortable private bedroom. Crate Location I advise placing the crate in an area of your house where both you and your German Shepherd can access it effortlessly at any time needed. I usually place a crate right beside my bed when I have a new puppy. I set another crate in a corner of my living room where I spend the most time during the day working or relaxing. Using two different locations for a crate is not only convenient, but it gives your German Shepherd the opportunity to find a spot away from family and noise should they want time to themselves. In particular, you must immediately clean their space when they soil the area or are sick in their crate. Step 1: Remove their toys, beds, blankets and all of the objects from their crate. Set the items to the side and wipe down their toys, cleaning them regularly with pet-safe disinfectant if they have any urine or feces on them. You can find some great toys for German Shepherds to replace the old, worn-out ones. Step 2: Wash their soft bedding materials. This is especially important if they have an accident in the crate, and it should be done as soon as possible to avoid cross-contamination to other items in the crate or house. Be sure the bedding is fully dry before replacing it back into the clean crate. Your dog should also have a German Shepherd bed to relax on when outside of their crate, and a crate mat or pad when inside their crate. Step 3: Dry the crate outside or in a well-ventilated area. I suggest washing the crate outside, with your garden hose. If you are unable to go outside, choose a room with tile floors that are easier to mop up, such as your kitchen, bathroom, or mud and laundry room. The room needs proper ventilation so that the cage can dry quickly. Use clean cloth towels or paper towels to wipe down the parts to help dry the crate quicker. Step 4: Finding the right cleaning solution. This is critical as some cleaning solutions are harmful and can make your dog sick if they are exposed to it. Never clean their crate with ammonia because ammonia tends to smell like urine to dogs. You could unintentionally encourage them to urinate in the crate if you clean it with ammonia. Here are a couple of good do-it-yourself cleaning solutions that you can mix up at your own home to save some money. Place the following in a spray bottle to make your own homemade crate cleanser: Squirt one part dish detergent to ten parts of warm water Use half a cup of white vinegar to one-gallon warm water Add half a cup of bleach to a gallon of cool water Always take safety precautions when mixing your own chemicals at home. Your GSD needs to have a soft place to rest, enough space to relax, and a comfortable temperature. Place the crate in an area out of busy zones. A quiet corner in the living room is good. Make sure the area has plenty of ventilation, but no cold drafts. Use a cover if needed. Use treats and praise when your dog is in the crate. Let your dog enjoy his meals in the crate while supervised. This creates a positive feeling with the kennel. Offer your dog a special toy to chew or play with when in the kennel. Make sure the toy is safe and supervise his toy time. Their collar can get caught between the bars or wire and cause significant damage to your dog! Use a PetSafe Breakaway Collar to prevent any unforeseen accidents! The breakaway collar stops your dog from hanging themselves by releasing them automatically. Dogs are more agile in their crates than you could imagine, especially puppies, and they get themselves in problems with their collars when you least expect it. Hit, kick, or strike the crate. With or without your dog in it, this creates a fear of the crate. Keep your dog in its kennel for more time than needed. Long times in a kennel can cause anxiety. Leave the kennel in the sun. Your home can get hot enough to cause overheating problems if left in a sunny spot for too long! Your dog could have problems eating the treat or tear the toy and eat it. Yell at your dog when in the kennel or use the area as punishment. A kennel is a safe spot, not a bad zone. German Shepherds are natural den animals source. They prefer and want a safe place to hide or even relax. A crate provides both safety and relaxation for your pet. They prevent unforeseen accidents, like the destruction of your property. Or worse, harm to your dog from staying alone all day left to their own devices. Items to consider when buying your dog a crate: Escape artists need a model made from solid steel While the average dog can get away with a heavy gauge wire kennel Remember, the lower the number on the wire gauge, the greater the strength. They are a great tool for house training and traveling. Need an easy step-by-step guide to teaching your German Shepherd to love their new den? Then follow this helpful guide to crate train your German Shepherd to help save yourself time and stress of using a kennel with your dog. Answering these questions before buying allows you the best outcome: Will you need the crate to be lightweight enough to take for holidays or hotel travels? Does your German Shepherd escape traditional wire kennels? Will you need a crate with two doors to allow multiple entrances? What size will you and your dog feel most comfortable with? Crates are also useful training aids to help puppies learn to be left alone or to encourage house training — but crates should never be used as a punishment. The best crates for a German Shepherd are:. If you will be gone for hours a day at work, a larger kennel system is a good idea. My girl Aura loves her crate which is like a little den for her. I leave the door open and she goes in it often when she wants to get away from it all. She has the 48x32x35 Petmate Ultra Vari listed above. I work from home and she is rarely locked up in it. What is the best material for a German Shepherd crate? The sliverylake is steel and the Zinger Winger is heavy duty aluminum. The aluminum crate is lighter weight. My girl Aura uses the Petmate crate which is plastic. This kennel breaks down into two pieces. If she just pressed her back against it it would fall right apart and she would be free. Which crate is best for travel? I have a truck and the Petmate crate travels easily for me. I just break it down into two pieces which sit inside of eachother and throw them in the bed of the truck and off I go. Before that I used a folding metal crate. Our other car is an SUV with plenty of room although this will not fit into the trunk of a Honda Accord. Final thoughts on German Shepherd Crates: Crates should always be a happy and safe place for your dog. Never use the crate as a punishment. When I had puppies, they would fight over who got to use the crate and these days my 8 year old German Shepherd goes in and out of her crate several times per week whenever she feels like it. Crates are also amazing tool for potty training puppies. Size and Space — One of the biggest considerations when buying a dog crate for your German Shepherd is size. The American Kennel Club writes on their website that the typical height range for a German Shepherd is 22 to 26 inches. The breed can weigh between 50 and 90 pounds. Durability and Material — German Shepherds are powerful, strong dogs that serve commendable purposes in society, such as military dogs, police dogs, service dogs and more. We considered crates that have a clever design to prevent your German Shepherd from doing harm to themselves or causing damage to the crate. Portability and Weight — The type of crate that you require will likely depend on your lifestyle. If your German Shepherd is predominantly a guard dog or family dog, you may be satisfied with a stationary crate. Security and Safety Features — German Shepherds are athletically built with a lot of power. They shed all year round but tend to blow out their coat at least twice a year at the changing of the seasons. The Collapsible Crate is simple to set up — it takes less than 60 seconds to put together. My 5ft 2ins wife was able to move it around our home. It has ample ventilation thanks to the diamond-shaped holes that are designed to prevent your German Shepherd from sinking their teeth in or doing damage. It comes with a lifetime guarantee should any part prove faulty. The Revol is a collapsible crate so it offers plenty of portability and versatility. Inspired by baby industry standards, the Revol has an ergonomic design to make all elements of the crate easy to use. We can offer helloBARK! It has a zinc-plated steel paddle latch which provides a robust mechanism for added security against the toughest escape attempts. There are four additional butterfly latches, providing maximum strength and security. Impact write on their website that the small circle ventilation holes are specifically designed to prevent dogs from getting their K9 teeth in and potentially harming themselves. They only offer this coverage on their High Anxiety Crate. It has a thoughtful design with 20 ventilation holes on either side to provide adequate ventilation. However, it does come at a significantly cheaper price. Last Updated: July 12, Do you have a sweet little german shepherd puppy or an adult one? German shepherds, also known as Alsatians, belong to one of the large breeds of dogs. As they are medium to large dogs, they always need a large space to live. So what can be best for them, rather than a large-sized dog crate? To train your German Shepherd puppies, crates can be very helpful and supportive. In addition, they can also be great for older dogs and heavy breeds. As the dogs always need a small space where they can stay safe and feel protected, a crate can best serve the purpose. According to most veterinarians, dog parents should keep their puppies in crates from a very young age. Because of this, the puppy can learn how to feel comfortable in their own space where they can enjoy their treats and play with their favorite toys. German shepherds are loved all around the world because of their loyal nature and intelligence. Are you looking for the best crate for your german shepherd puppy? If you have recently adopted a new german shepherd puppy, you must be thinking of buying a small size crate for him. Is it better to buy a small crate until your pup becomes an adult? Or should you buy a large one that will fit even the large size when he grows? The answer to this question can be difficult because all the puppies have different requirements. However, every dog owner needs to buy a crate in which the puppy will feel more secure. A large enough crate will allow your German Shepherd puppy to stand up and turn around comfortably for him to mature into an adult. But there can be control problems if you try to potty train a puppy in a crate that is too large. A good rule of thumb is that the crate should be no larger than the backside of your German Shepherd puppy. Because soon, your GSD will go from a lap-sized dog to a dog that can crush your lap. If you choose a crate that is the proper size for your dog, crate training will go much more smoothly. For example, the right crate for a german shepherd will be the one in which your pup can rest but not large enough to initiate behavioral issues. Dividers are now included in many large crates on the market, which are a major advantage over the size issue. However, you will need to remove the crate divider and use the entire capacity of the crate at some point. Disadvantages of a Large Dog Crate Some people complain about a lack of space in their homes. Another disadvantage of using a crate that is too large for your dog is that it can be difficult to clean. Instead of sleeping in a large pet crate while housetraining your dog, he may use half of the crate as a toilet instead. Benefits of a Dog Crate for a German Shepherd The ideal crate size for a German Shepherd has now been determined, and it is time to consider the various purposes for which crates are used. Not all pet parents use German Shepherd crates to train their dogs, but there are a lot of them who do. Using the crate is even more helpful for a puppy as you can use the crate for their potty training. So, before buying the right size crate for your pup, make sure to consider these major factors. The best training rate for a german shepherd must have incorporated all the below-mentioned features. Material The crates are created using different materials, including plastic pans, metal door frames, wire or metal crates, and soft-sided crates made with soft fabric. Plastic pan crates are more reliable and good for dogs who love to scratch or chew because they are strong enough to withstand even a heavy chewer. While, a wire crate is easy to fold, inexpensive, and relatively durable. Soft crates are comfy, but they are not durable. Space The dog crate you choose should not be too small to make your pup feel restricted and full of anxiety. On the other hand, a crate that is too small will be harmful to their health. The crate should be big enough for a large breed dog to stand and lay down easily. Of course, your dog will be more comfortable standing, turning, and sleeping in a crate designed specifically for them. But it should not be too long to make him feel stray. Also, the inclusion of dividers in some crate brands allows you to adjust the space in the crate to your specific requirements. Durability It would be best if you buy a crate that can withstand the weight of powerful dogs like german shepherds. Additionally, if you do not complete crate training your dog, there might be a risk of him attempting to escape. Number of Doors Some brands also offer crates with two doors, which can be opened from either side. When deciding where to place the crate in your home, you will have more options with double doors. Dog parents should not use ammonia to clean their dog kennel because it has a smell similar to the urine of dogs. In addition, if you use ammonia to clean the crate, you may accidentally encourage your pup to urinate there. Also, take protective measures when preparing chemicals before cleaning. For example, keep your German Shepherd out of the way when cleaning their crate, rinse it to remove any inorganic chemicals, and dry the crate thoroughly before putting their toys back in. Different Types of Crates Crates for large dogs such as German shepherds are available in several types, including wooden crates, wire or metal crates, soft crates, plastic crates, etc. Plastic Portable Dog Crate As the name suggests, these crates are designed with strong plastic material to work best for small to medium dogs. These crates are lightweight and therefore portable. The plastic crate includes a swing door for easy entrance and exit. As these crates are portable, they contain an easy-to-grip handle for dog owners. According to their specifications, you can use these crates while traveling in cars or airplanes. These crates are easy to move around because they are foldable. Wire crates are available in several sizes, and all of them have an open wireframe design so that your pup can easily get a view of the surroundings. In addition, they are all easily cleanable and well-ventilated, and you can put on a soft cushion or extra blanket to make it comfier for your little friend. These crates work best for larger German Shepherds with aggressive chewing habits or other behavioral issues because they are indestructible. Soft-sided Dog Crate The dog crates with soft padding are the most comfortable and lightweight, great for traveling. However, these crates are made with soft nylon and mesh material, so they are destructible and not good for heavy chewers or aggressive dogs. Unfortunately, these crates are not easily portable. Heavy-duty Dog Crate Heavy-duty dog crates are best for large breeds like adult german shepherds, who usually try to destroy their crates during training. In addition, your dog will no longer try to escape from the crate if you teach him to like it and see it as his personal space. A dog should consider the crate a safe place, and you, as his caring parent, will have to ensure this. You are undoubtedly concerned about health issues or health problems that may arise. Did you know that there is a big difference between puppy food and adult dog food? It may be hard to know where to start, but I will break it down for you! In their full size, they are big dogs. At their full height, they are also very tall. Their looks can be deceiving. Even though they are larger dogs, they may not need more food than a typical dog. You want to be prepared with this knowledge before you decide if this dog is right for you. How do you ensure a healthy lifestyle for your pup? It is important to learn how much food is necessary in their different life stages. The Reasoning Behind the Puppy Food New dog owners have several choices to make when it comes to food. It can be overwhelming, but there are a few simple things to keep in mind for a balanced diet. Your main goal is a healthy, happy dog! Adult dogs and puppies have different nutritional needs. Puppy food is specifically designed for growing pups. As they grow, they are burning more calories. This means that they need more calories per pound of body weight to sustain their developing bodies. Bernedoodle puppies need more fatty acids and high protein diets. These puppies complete a majority of their growth within two or three years. In these first few years, they will need higher amounts of protein calories. Veterinarians will say that it is, however, not toxic for your puppy to eat adult dog food. They may suggest that you do your best to stick to these separate kinds of dog food for optimal health. This type of food is typically referred to as adult maintenance for day-to-day living. It should be clearly labeled on the packages. Once they have reached their adult weight, they can maintain the health benefits from their simpler diet. The transition from puppy food to adult dog food should be seamless. Bernedoodle dogs are laid back and not picky! Most of the time, they will eat what is put in front of them. Now that we have covered the difference between the types of dog food, we will get right to specific amounts for Bernedoodle puppies. Our Penny had a very sensitive stomach as a puppy, and we have stuck with this puppy food and been very happy with the choice. She seems to be happy and thriving on it. Specific amounts of Food for Bernedoodle Puppies Young puppies that are two to six months of age typically eat three different times a day. The daily amount of puppy food depends on weeks of age and how much they weigh. It will also depend on how much exercise they receive. I will break that down specifically. But, it is important to keep in mind that their food intake will increase as they grow. At around six months of age, Bernedoodle puppies can eat twice a day. This schedule may continue for adult Bernedoodles. They are growing very quickly. Setting your puppy up with proper nutrients will benefit growth, brain health and a long lifespan. It is helpful to stick to designated eating times for your puppy. Do not forget that It is a good choice to check the directions of the healthy dog food you purchase. On the back of each package, there should be a suggested serving size. As always, contact your veterinarian if you are concerned about how your Bernedoodle is developing. Interestingly enough, adult Bernedoodle dogs tend to only eat one serving a day. They can finish their larger amount of food in one sitting. When they reach an even older age it may be difficult for them to finish this serving in one feeding. It is helpful to spread these servings out for older dogs while it gets harder to finish a meal. At this point you will be in tune to what your Bernedoodle dog needs. Bernedoodles are known for their love of food! It is easy to over-feed your puppy. A general rule is to check their ribs. You should be able to feel the ribs easily but not be able to see them at a glance. This is a great way to check on your Bernedoodle dogs and their weight gain. It can be tempting to feed your pup food from the table. This seems innocent but can create poor eating habits down the road. It can also disrupt their digestive systems. You have worked hard to create a healthy diet and want to keep it that way. If a Bernedoodle puppy is hungry, they will eat from their designated spot and will not need anything extra. Do not forget that although the feeding schedule is important, we cannot forget about giving our dogs plenty of exercise! Long walks will encourage a healthy life for your Bernedoodle and for you. Overall health includes diet and exercise. This is another reason why Bernedoodle puppies are a wonderful family dog. They have plenty of energy to keep up with toddlers. It is also a helpful way to encourage your teens to get outside and away from their technology. Bernedoodle Puppy Food — Dog Food Options With a growing amount of dog food brands, it can be hard to pick the best food. As you browse the isles, it is obvious to note that wet food is more expensive than dry food. However, they are both great options! The standard Bernedoodle loves to eat and they are such large breeds that they can eat a lot. Fortunately for dog owners, many dogs love dry food. Wet or raw dog food has less carbohydrates than dry food and can be more hydrating. Many veterinarians suggest that either kind is a great choice! I would find a brand and type that fits into your grocery budget. Bernedoodles tend to eat what they are given. If only this trait would rub off on the human puppies we have. There is nothing wrong with the dry kibble choice! Each type of dog food has the nutrients it needs to help your dog grow. The biggest difference between dry and wet dog food may be the way it is digested. Keep in mind — that as with kids and yourself there may be adjusting to find what is best for your puppy. Start with a small bag the first time you purchase puppy food, and if you are changing them from what they were on at a breeder or in a shelter mix the new food with the previous food for a slower change on their gut. Now that you have been prepared with nutrition knowledge, you are ready to welcome that pup in to the family. Giving them proper puppy and adult dog food will help create a healthy dog. More than food, your Bernedoodle needs love and affection. This will not be difficult at all. Bernedoodles are easy to create a bond with. Frequency Of Feeding Bernedoodle puppies have different nutritional requirements compared to adult dogs. Puppies need more frequent meals as their stomachs are smaller, and they require regular energy to fuel their growth. Generally, Bernedoodle puppies that are two to six months of age typically eat three times a day. It is essential to maintain a consistent feeding schedule when raising a Bernedoodle puppy. Choosing The Right Type Of Food When it comes to choosing the right type of food for your Bernedoodle puppy, there are several factors to consider. First and foremost, you will want to make sure that the food you select is appropriate for their size and nutritional needs. Soaking Kibble For Easier Digestion One of the recommended feeding guidelines for Bernedoodle puppies is soaking their kibble in raw milk. Soaking kibble can make it easier for them to digest and absorb nutrients from their food. When puppies eat dry kibble, they tend to swallow large pieces whole, which can lead to digestive issues such as bloating and constipation. For example, by the time Bernedoodles are weeks old, they will be eating one raw meal per day and two kibble meals per day soaked in raw milk. Raw milk contains probiotics that can help promote healthy gut flora and improve overall digestion. It is also high in protein, calcium, vitamin D and other essential vitamins and minerals that support growth development at this stage of life. Factors To Consider When Feeding A Bernedoodle Puppy When feeding a Bernedoodle puppy, age, weight, activity level, and nutritional requirements should all be taken into account to ensure that they are getting the proper amount of food for their growth and development. Age As your Bernedoodle puppy grows and develops, their age plays a crucial role in determining the appropriate feeding regimen. Each stage of growth has specific nutritional requirements to ensure healthy development and weight maintenance. For example, at eight weeks to 12 weeks old, these fluffy pups need about one cup of food three times a day to fuel their rapid growth. Around four months of age, it is important for owners to establish a regular feeding schedule with meals served at consistent times each day. This helps develop good eating habits and prevents potential gastrointestinal issues caused by erratic meal timings. Weight One of the most important factors to consider when determining how much to feed your Bernedoodle puppy is their weight. Activity Level The activity level of a Bernedoodle puppy plays a significant role in determining the appropriate amount and type of food they require. Puppies with higher energy levels will burn more calories throughout the day, thus needing increased caloric intake to support their growth and development. A common rule for puppies is providing 5 minutes of exercise per month of age, times per day; this can help you estimate how much food your pooch needs. Additionally, consulting with your veterinarian about tailoring meal portions can further aid in promoting healthy weight gain and avoiding overfeeding issues. These adorable pups require high-quality, animal-based protein in their diets for optimal growth and development. Additionally, Bernedoodle puppies need higher amounts of calories than adult dogs due to their growth stage. As they grow older, the caloric requirement will decrease gradually before reaching adulthood at around two or three years old. It is recommended to weigh your Bernedoodle at least once a month, preferably more frequently during their growth stage. Moreover, regular weigh-ins can also prevent obesity, which is a common problem among dogs. Overfeeding or underfeeding can lead to various health issues such as joint problems, heart disease, and diabetes. Here are some signs of overfeeding or underfeeding your Bernedoodle puppy: Weight gain or loss: Sudden and drastic weight changes can indicate an imbalance in their diet. Ensure that you keep track of their weight regularly. Low energy levels: Overfeeding can lead to lethargy and low energy levels, while underfeeding can make them restless. Digestive issues: Overfeeding may cause digestive problems such as diarrhea, vomiting, or constipation. Behavioural changes: Overfed puppies may show lack of interest in activities, become irritable or overly aggressive, while underfed puppies tend to become anxious and overly active. Dull coat: Both overfed and underfed puppies may have a dull-looking coat due to poor nutrition. Increased thirst and urination: Overfeeding can lead to excessive water intake resulting in frequent peeing while underfeeding can cause the opposite effect where they drink less water than required. Reduced appetite: Underfed puppies often lose interest in food altogether leading them with a reduced appetite. As a general rule of thumb, the amount of exercise should be limited to 5 minutes per month of age until they reach maturity. Overfeeding can lead to obesity, which can adversely affect their health and cause other problems down the line. Also, be sure to measure out the exact portion sizes recommended for each meal as free-feeding or guessing can lead to overconsumption. Importance Of High-Quality Ingredients Choosing the right type of food for your Bernedoodle puppy is crucial, and one of the most important factors in ensuring their health and wellbeing is selecting high-quality ingredients. High-quality dog food should provide your pup with a balanced diet that includes all the necessary nutritional requirements, such as protein, vitamins, minerals, healthy fats and carbohydrates. When choosing a dog food brand for Bernedoodles puppies or dogs, look out for products that use real meat such as chicken or lamb rather than by-products. Additionally, avoid foods that contain artificial preservatives and fillers like corn gluten meal or wheat flour. This dog food brand also has wholesome grains like brown rice and barley which are easy to digest sources of complex carbohydrates; it maintains energy levels throughout long playtime sessions spent outdoor exercising while supporting digestive health thanks to fiber content from fruits and vegetables plus probiotic strains supplements found within each kibble bite-sized piece they consume. Consider the benefits and drawbacks of dry, wet, and raw food options to make an informed decision. Type of Food. Use tab to navigate through the menu items. Mini Bernedoodles planned for, loved on, and prepared for forever families. If you want to give your dog a treat, then get a treat that is meant for your dog and not for you. The best kinds of treats for your dog are freeze dried meat or fish. This is strictly meat, no additives, no coloring. Chews are good for your dog but do not give your dog rawhide because it comes off in big chunks and can choke your dog. Other chews you should avoid are any sort of treats or chews made in China, buy local as much as possible. Go to your local butcher and ask for raw meaty bones, specifically for dogs. Bully sticks, pig ears, chicken feet, and cow hooves are all very good options. If you would like to get your puppy on a good potty schedule you need to offer your puppy food at least three times a day until it is at least 4 months old or over 3 pounds. After it is 4 months old and eating well and weighs over 3 pounds you can offer it food twice a day, in the morning and evening. Put the food in the pen and leave it for approximately 15 to 20 minutes and then take it up again. Pay attention to see if your puppy does it and just take note that they are eating regularly twice a day. Once you dog is potty trained and if it is not a glutton, you may leave food out for longer periods of time if you prefer. Nutrition The idea that canine diets should be grain free may have come about due to some allergy concerns as well as the realization that dogs are carnivores and should be eating a diet with a substantial amount of meat. Of course, many manufacturers were quick to promote this new fad diet and eager to capitalize on sincerely concerned pet owners. The problem is that there have been no significant studies conducted on these grain free diet feeding plans for dogs. In fact, many veterinarians and even the FDA are now realizing that grain free dog food is actually causing more harm than good. The concern is that when grains are taken out of the food, another filler must be added to take the place of these grains. These fillers are usually high in carbohydrates like peas and lentils, which have been linked to Dilated cardiomyopathy DCM , diabetes, and other serious health issues in dogs. When you are looking for dog food be sure that you do your due diligence and check ingredients, do your research. Look for a reputable brand, which is generally one you can't get at the grocery store. Your local feed store is an excellent source of high quality dog food that often comes with some great advice. Keep mixing and giving more and more of the new food, little by little. In this way you can avoid tummy upsets for your dog. Use tab to navigate through the menu items. How Much to Feed a Bernedoodle One of the most common questions we get is how much to feed their puppy, teenager and adult bernedoodle. Great question and unfortunately many do not understand the needs and requirements of an F1 standard bernedoodle bernese mountain dog x standard poodle that has Bernese mountain dogs in them. So to expect a bernedoodle to have a waist line like a Great Dane will put your bernedoodle into hunger mode and if young will lead to potential behavioral challenges and this is a time when they need calories due to them being a fast growing mixed breed. We shoot for always having a little bit of food left over and we let them have access to food for about minutes but this can be adjusted based on your schedule. We only do this for the breakfast. We will begin adding about tablespoons of different types of lightly cooked meats can go raw as well and sardines to the above topper along with a little bit of cut up or shredded carrots, blueberries and can add other dog friendly fruits and veggies but make sure you check before using. We would also add dog-based salmon oil according to the instructions about a tsp. Often in the morning we would do sweet potato, yogurt, and a meat and dinner some of the other ingredients. Lunch we keep plain. Be sure you are washing your food and water bowls once per day with hot soapy water. Lastly we recommend starting with TLC adult all life stages dog food for large growing breeds like bernedoodles and even for the puppies. The adult food exceeds AAFCO requirements for puppies and has glucosamine and chondroitin which is important for joint development. Many vets compare bernedoodles to what they consider a typical healthy dog build high thin waist line, etc but that is not the case for F1 standard bernedoodles as they will have a thicker build. Dogs need a well-balanced diet to support a healthy immune system and proper growth like all living things. As omnivorous animals, dogs need a diet of animal and plant proteins. Malnutrition, or failing to supply any nutrients, can result in serious health complications for a Bernedoodle. Protect your pup with a varied, high-quality diet rich in protein, grains, vitamins, and minerals. Each has its own set of pros and cons. Wet dog food can ease the transition for a weaning puppy, but the prolonged feeding of wet foods particularly canned versions can lead to digestive problems. Dogs who consume a diet primarily of wet foods also tend to have more dental problems, such as plaque buildup and tooth decay. While you can counteract this effect by offering whole bones to your dog, it may not be sufficient in helping them avoid dental issues. Kibble dry dog food is generally the preferred feeding method for dogs, particularly among large dog breed owners. It is often because kibble tends to be less expensive per pound than other dog foods. Kibble also typically lasts longer than raw or cooked food, so there is less potential for waste. The hardness of kibble can also protect a dog from dental issues, as it helps to wear away plaque, the leading cause of tooth decay. If you choose this feeding method for your Bernedoodle, take some time to research and compare the various brands. Pay special attention to major recalls. Opt for a trusted and reputable brand. Consider using dog brand comparison sites for an in-depth look at the ingredients. Avoid by-products and focus, instead, on kibbles that contain mostly whole-food ingredients. Cooked and raw dog food diets have emerged as a trend over the past few years. These diets typically involve the preparation of human foods like liver, eggs, cottage cheese, sweet potatoes, chicken, and beef cuts. However, there are commercial selections available for purchase. The potentially large size of a Bernedoodle can make raw and cooked food diets cost-prohibitive for some owners. Even those that can afford it should talk to their vet. Should it be administered incorrectly, a raw or cooked diet can lead to serious nutrient deficiencies. This can lead to long-term and even life-threatening health problems for your Bernedoodle. Regardless of the age or size of your Bernedoodle, a feeding schedule should be used to prevent overeating and obesity. The only exception is when the pup is weaning during its first three months. Grazing can be permitted during this stage to help them adjust to regular dog food. When Bernedoodle puppies reach four months of age, owners should move to a regular feeding schedule. The pup should be fed at the same time each day, three times daily. At around six months of age, the growth of a Bernedoodle begins to slow, and obesity becomes more of a risk. To minimize it, Bernedoodle puppies should be transitioned to twice-daily feedings once they reach six months of age. Older senior dogs may sometimes need to return to grazing, as they may struggle to eat their entire serving in one sitting. Just be sure to watch your dog for excessive weight gain. Bernedoodles tend to be voracious eaters, so they can quickly become overweight when allowed to graze. Puppies can be especially prone to bone problems if permitted to gain weight too quickly, so watch them closely for any signs of excessive eating. Also, be sure to feed your Bernedoodle the right amount of food. Larger Bernedoodle dogs will need more. However, the amount of dog food should not be determined through charts alone. They are only guidelines. Health, age, exercise and activity levels, and sub-breed can alter the amount of food a Bernedoodle needs — sometimes significantly. Healthy Bernedoodle pups can eat as much as three times the food as an adult dog of the same weight. As such, Bernedoodle owners should start at the minimum amount of food and then monitor the dog for weight loss and weight gain. An observation journal can help you note small changes over time while also allowing you to keep track of how much your Bernedoodle is eating. Dogs getting the appropriate amount of food usually have visible ribs and a tucked tummy. This is when viewed from the side. When viewed from above, they should have a visible waist. If your dog continues to appear underweight, despite increases in food intake. You may need to schedule a trip to the vet to rule out parasites or underlying health conditions. Should you start noticing a rounded stomach, a waist disappears when viewing your dog from the side. Reduce their food amount slightly until their shape returns. You can also take your Bernedoodle out for more exercise to reduce their weight. Bernedoodle Treats — Yes, No, or Sometimes? Treats are often used to train young Bernedoodles. Of course, senior dogs love treats, too! Yet, because Bernedoodles can be prone to overeating, avoiding excessive treat giving with this breed is important. Bernedoodles rarely mind. Give only limited amounts of commercial dog and protein-dense treats to minimize the risk of obesity in your Bernedoodle. Bones with marrow should only be given on occasion. Keeping Your Bernedoodle Healthy Diet is not the only health consideration that Bernedoodles owners need to make, as it is not the only pillar to good health. Depending on their age or specific health needs, your dog may also need additional vitamins or supplements; your vet can advise you further. Such as malnutrition, tooth decay, excessive weight gain, sluggishness, unusual shedding, or other alarming symptoms. Regular check-ups and vaccinations are also important for ensuring good health in your pet. From puppy to senior, you can keep your Bernedoodle happy and healthy. Whereas by feeding them a well-rounded, high-quality diet rich in nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. Good health allows them to be a loved member of your family for years to come. They can vary in size from 10 pounds to 50 pounds because poodles come in different sizes toy, miniature and standard. Their personalities can vary quite a bit as well, making each Bernedoodle unique! It really depends on which parent breed they take after. They can differ even more the original litter is bred with other Poodles or Bernese Mountain Dogs. Additionally, the Bernedoodle is a newer breed so people are still learning about them with each generation. They usually have curly or at least wavy coats that tend to shed less and cause fewer problems for allergy sufferers. They do not like to be left alone and can develop separation anxiety. Good training can help to prevent this, however, and this quality makes them wonderful canine friends anyway. Feeding Your Bernedoodle Puppy Thorough knowledge of puppy feeding can help deter bad behavior and potential health issues down the road as your puppy blossoms into an adult. Your puppy needs a well-balanced diet just like a human baby. It should contain a combination of proteins from both plant and meat sources, as well as some grains. Also, puppy food and adult dog food are not the same. Puppies require more nutrients and more calories than adult dogs because they are growing so quickly. You can choose between dry food, canned food, cooked food, or raw food. Dry and canned foods are designed to provide all of the nutrients that your puppy needs to grow and be healthy. There are also size-specific food types you can choose from that contain different nutrient amounts or smaller kibble. As puppies transition from nursing to puppy food, it may be easier to feed them a mixture of wet and dry food. This will help them adjust to eating just kibble as they get older. Bernedoodle puppies tend to overeat, so they must be kept on a feeding schedule. Puppies younger than four months can be allowed to graze as needed as they transition from nursing to puppy food. At four months old, Bernedoodle puppies should be fed three times per day, at the same times each day. At six months old, you should transition your Bernedoodle puppy to feedings twice per day instead of three times. Be sure to feed your Bernedoodle puppy early enough in the evening that he has time to digest and go potty or he may have accidents overnight. The amount of food you feed your Bernedoodle puppy can vary greatly based on the size of poodle the Bernese was bred with toy, mini, or standard. Smaller Bernedoodle puppies, those that were bred from toy or miniature poodles, will require much less food than the larger Bernedoodle puppies. Keep an eye on the shape of your puppy. You should be able to see his ribs slightly and his tummy should tuck upward. You should not be able to see his hips, however. Begin feeding your Bernedoodle puppy the smallest amount for their weight, but if he looks underweight, increase that amount gradually. If he looks overweight, decrease his food intake. The first step to determine how much to feed your puppy is to figure out approximately what your puppy will weigh once he is an adult. The following chart show approximately how much to feed your puppy based on weight and age range: Bernedoodle Puppy Feeding Chart 6 weeks to 3 months 4 — 5 months. This is important for all dogs but especially for a growing puppy. Protein is what essentially determines the quality of dog food. When you read the label, you will see one or more of the following protein types: Meat protein. As the name implies, this type of protein comes from other animals. It is usually made up of muscle or organ meat and is the closest protein to human quality. It is superior to other types of protein for dogs. Animal by-products. This protein type is made up of the parts of the animal that are not included in meat protein. It can be made of hair, hoofs, lips, and even eyelashes. Vegetable and grain proteins. These are mostly soy- or corn-based. The goal is to provide a diet with more animal protein than veggie protein, which you can do by choosing a food with at least two animal sources of protein listed within the first five ingredients on the bag. Carbohydrates Just like humans, Bernedoodle puppies get energy and dietary fiber from carbs. Many different types of carbs can be found within puppy food. High-quality carbs include rice, barley, and oats, while lower-quality carbs include corn or wheat. Fats and Preservatives Of all the ingredients in puppy food, fats are the most expensive. Because they are harder to extract and more challenging to preserve. The best usable fats for puppies are those from chicken, sunflower, or canola oil. Other fats you might see include fish oil and lactose-free dairy fats. Remember that vitamins are nothing more than organic additives that help give the puppy anything it needs that it is not getting from its food. If the food is of high quality, then there should not be a need for a significant amount of calories coming from vitamins. That said, some vitamins should be included within the food to allow your Bernedoodle puppy to digest it properly. There are two main types of vitamins: Fat-Soluble. Examples include A, D, E, and K, and these types of vitamins are stored in the liver and fatty tissue. Water Soluble. Examples include B and C. You will find plenty of foods with long lists of added vitamins. This might look impressive, but, again, if the food is of high quality, then less is more when it comes to vitamin additives. Consider the Ease of Obtaining Puppy Food Another factor to consider is how easily you can get a food. When it comes to ease of access, you will find three main options: Brands you can find anywhere. These are the most popular brands you have likely heard of, and they can be found at just about any grocery store, big-box store, and even some drug stores. These are also generally the least expensive options. However, they often choose meat from 4-D categories, which means the animals that make up the protein are dead, dying, or diseased. It is also common for the fats used in these brands to be of lower quality and not as easily digestible, which might require your Bernedoodle puppy to eat more to get the nutrients they need. Premium brands. Historically, they were found in specialty pet stores and animal hospitals. They generally use a higher grade of meat and higher quality fats, which means that puppies generally need less of these foods than those that are more commercially available. Holistic foods. These are only found in specialty pet stores or online. These are the cream of the crop and generally have human-grade meats and highly digestible fats. Even the grain carb mix will be made from high-quality foods. You will find many of these to be free from hormones and steroids. Of course, this quality comes with a high price, and they can be harder to find. Once again, the high quality means less food is needed compared to lower-priced options. Balancing Cost and Quality Not everyone can effort to pay for holistic food. The key is to find the best quality you can for the price you can afford. You do not need to spend that much money to keep your puppy in good health. Adult Bernedoodle Nutrition As your Bernedoodle ages, it no longer needs the extra calories for growth. Most dogs will become less active once they leave the puppy stage between 18 months and two years, which further reduces their need for calories. The type of Bernedoodle affects its total expected weight: Standard Bernedoodles get to pounds Miniature Bernedoodles get to pounds Tiny Bernedoodles get to 10 — 24 pounds If you are not sure how much your particular dog is likely to end up weighing, you can talk to your vet. Smaller Bernedoodles might be at their adult weight by six or seven months old, while standard Bernedoodles often grow well beyond 12 months of age. Once again, look at the package for its breakdown of nutrients. The two main options for adult dogs are adult maintenance all-stages. Adult maintenance is generally the better choice for dogs that are overweight or not as active, while all-stage food contains extra nutrients for more active dogs. Senior Bernedoodle Nutrition As your Bernedoodle becomes a senior dog, its nutritional requirements will change. Many senior dogs deal with a wealth of health issues , including obesity, arthritis, and cognitive issues. Meanwhile, they can also suffer from appetite loss. The opposite is actually true. A healthy senior Bernedoodle will need more protein to fuel their muscle. As dogs age, they begin to lose muscle mass — sometimes so much that they cannot move around with assistance. Find the Right Calorie Balance Younger senior Bernedoodles are often overweight, but as they get older, they tend to become underweight. You will need to know the calorie content of the food you are feeding and adjust it accordingly if your dog gains or loses weight when you do not want them to. Because many of the elements that you want a lot of — or none of — vary widely or are not listed at all on regular senior dog food. For example, a dog with heart or kidney disease should have low sodium food, but the amount of sodium on the most popular senior dog food brands ranges from 33 to mg per kcal. Likewise, a dog with kidney disease would need a diet that is low in phosphorous, but no dog food label notes how much phosphorous is in a diet. If your senior Bernedoodle develops a health condition that requires strict control over specific elements of their diet, a prescription diet might be the only place to achieve that goal. You Will Need to Find a Food That Your Dog Likes When it comes to feeding younger Bernedoodles, unless your dog is particularly picky, you can likely feed them whatever is healthiest, and they will be happy to eat it. The same cannot be said for senior dogs, who often do not have a healthy appetite. In addition to loss of appetite, senior Bernedoodles might have dental issues that make it hard to chew their food, or digestive issues that make them uncomfortable after eating certain food types. At this stage, you might choose canned or soft food that they enjoy eating more. You can also help your dog eat more easily by feeding them on a raised platform or while they are lying down so that they do not have to bend down. Bernedoodle Treats When your Bernedoodle is still a puppy, you will need treats for training. You will need to experiment to determine what this is for your puppy. One of the most popular options is freeze-dried liver. Your dog might prefer small pieces of chicken or other proteins. For training, treats should be very small so that your dog can quickly eat them and move on to the next part of the training. If you are training for an extended period and offering a significant number of treats, then you should reduce the amount of kibble you give your puppy to balance the calories they received via treats. As your dog grows, you might still want to treat them from time to time, but you will not be offering them as many treats as you did when they were training. Feeding Schedules for Bernedoodles The amount of food you feed your Bernedoodle will depend on the food you choose for them. Look at the bag to see the recommended number of cups. If you have a puppy, there will be a chart with weeks or months of age along with weight. Find where your puppy fits and feed based on that amount. Note that these are just starting places. Your food might suggest 3 cups of food, but if you find that your puppy is constantly hungry and not gaining weight as quickly as they should, then they might need more. Feeding Frequency Until six months of age, puppies should eat three times per day. After they reach this mark, feeding them twice per day is recommended for the rest of their life. However, if you cannot feed your puppy three times per day, trust that your puppy will adapt. The number of times you feed them is not nearly as important as feeding them the correct amount. If your lifestyle allows for it, feed your puppy or dog at the same time every day. This helps comfort the pup because it will learn that food is coming. It also helps keep their digestion regular and makes it easier for you to notice if your dog is eating more or less than they usually do. If their appetite varies slightly from day to day, there is likely nothing wrong. However, if your Bernedoodle suddenly loses its appetite or changes its diet preferences for several weeks, it is time to call the vet. Post navigation.

Goldendoodles sport the signature scruffy Doodle-look with hypoallergenic coats. And their high intelligence levels can leave us completely baffled. So, where can you find reputable Goldendoodle breeders in Virginia and what are the key things to look for? Some offer Standard Goldendoodles while others specialize in smaller, Mini Goldendoodle pups. Unfortunately, Doodle scammers and puppy mills also want their piece of the pie while resorting to unethical breeding practices and borderline torturing the animals. So, how can you avoid supporting a puppy mill and what should you look for in a responsible Goldendoodle breeder in Virginia? Why is that important? Because extensive health testing helps breeders screen the parent dogs for any hereditary diseases, which can be carried onto the puppies. Not only will it cost you a ton of money in the long run, unhealthy puppies with genetic conditions often struggle with pain and severe discomfort throughout their lives. In addition to rigorous health testing, you want to double-check if a breeder provides a health warranty for their puppies. Most commonly, breeders offer a two-year health guarantee for genetic conditions. Keep in mind that even scammers and puppy mills often claim to hold certifications with the organizations we mentioned above. Please be aware of this and always check back with the organizations, as their member breeders are often publicly posted on their websites. Many Goldendoodle breeders in Virginia have customer testimonials posted on their website, but we urge you to do some more digging on online communities like Reddit, Yelp, Facebook , or here at Doodle Doods. Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. They love their dogs and show commitment to the betterment of the breed in everything they do. But how can you spot reputable breeders when you start searching for a Pug puppy? Here are some tips to help you out. A good breeder will… 1. Issue a health guarantee Make sure that your breeder of choice offers a health guarantee. A reputable Pug breeder will write up a binding health guarantee for all of their puppies. The guarantee protects you against any genetic defects or diseases. It shows that the breeder is confident that their puppies are bred according to best practices. This means if you can no longer look after your pup for some reason, you will be expected to return the puppy to the breeder rather than taking them to a shelter. Provide standard health clearances Your breeder should have full health clearances for both parent Pugs. Good breeders often provide some early health-check clearances for their pups too, although some health clearances simply cannot be carried on such young pups. Issue a written bill of sale Reputable breeders offer written bills of sale to all of their new Pug parents. This bill of sale should be signed and will outline all the roles and responsibilities to be taken on by the buyer and seller as part of the transaction. Vaccinate their puppies All puppies should be up to date on their vaccinations before being homed with new families. Your breeder of choice should be able to provide evidence of these vaccinations. Reputable breeders welcome prospective parents into their homes to see the puppies. Follow age guidelines Puppies should never leave the litter before 8 weeks of age. Any breeder offering pups for adoption before this time is not following best practices. In fact, this could be quite damaging for the puppy developmentally. A reputable breeder will keep their pups at home until eight to twelve weeks so that they can be properly socialized and spend that crucial time with their mother and litter-mates. Answer your questions Last, but not least, a reputable breeder will be knowledgeable. In most cases, they will also want to ask you plenty of questions to ensure that their precious pups are going to good homes. We have a strict selection process that takes a variety of factors into account. That way we can ensure that only the best breeders end up on our lists. This way we know that our chosen breeders offer genetically sound and healthy puppies. Health testing shows a commitment to the health and wellbeing of each Pug. Contact information Any breeder that does not offer up their contact information is a big red flag. A reputable breeder will make it easy for you to get in contact with them by providing telephone numbers, email addresses, and they will usually have a well-established website as well. It shows a commitment to breeding best practices. Event participation Breeders who also compete in doggie events are often some of the best. Because these people tend to be dog lovers par excellence. They live and breathe for their Pugs and are proud to show them off in public. They are also more likely to have a high level of breed knowledge — an excellent sign for a breeder. Breed club membership There are lots of breed clubs out there that breeders can register with. These clubs have rules, regulations, and membership fees. If your breeder is registered with the Pug Dog Club of America, this is a great sign showing commitment to the Pug breed. Recognition awards Lastly, we look out for awards! Institutions like the AKC recognize the efforts and achievements of top breeders. The very best will be awarded the AKC recognition of merit award. Vet visits, injections and health checks are all too often in the early stages and, following all that, the final decision you have to make is whether or not to have your Boxer spayed or neutered. Spayed or Neutered? The procedure usually involves cutting a small incision in the abdomen. Whilst recommendations vary, vets typically suggest that you should have your Boxer spayed or neutered between the ages of four and nine months. This is thought to have long-term health benefits, as well as helping to prevent behavioural traits, such as marking and aggression. Whilst some recommend spaying before first heat as young as five months , others suggest that this can increase the risk of mammary tumours. We would always recommend consulting your vet for a personalised opinion. Most studies have said that spaying a dog can calm them down in most cases. However, it should not be seen as a cure-all for puppy problems. There are many reasons why you should have your Boxer spayed or neutered, not least of all because it will likely improve their quality of life and stop you from worrying about a litter of puppies. Spaying is proven to reduce the risk of breast cancer and uterine infections, and neutering similarly prevents testicular cancer. So, if you want to prevent these major Boxer killers, neutering and spaying is a sure fire way. Neutering your male Boxer will also ensure that he is on his best behaviour at all times. Neutering prevents aggressive and territorial behaviours, and also means that he wont be spending his entire walk hunting for a partner. So, if you want to prevent these embarrassments, get your Boxer neutered early on! See also Is Your Boxer Bored? Having this done will prevent unwanted litters and ultimately save the lives of millions of baby Boxer that would end up in shelters. Remember… No, the procedure is not painful. Female Boxers can reproduce as young as four months old, and male Boxers can as of six months. JingleBell: What is the best age to have a male boxer neutered? My male boxer puppy is 6 months old. What is a good age to have him fixed? I'm afraid to stunt his growth. I also have a female boxer that is spayed. He has started being aggressive towards her. Nothing serious, just rough houses a bit too much. Will getting him fixed help this? Answers and Views: Answer by rescue member Way time — get him neutered. The younger the dog, the less it bothers him, and the faster he recovers. I've had young dogs like yours neutered by the dozen, they are up and running the same day — the hard part is keeping them relatively calm they usually feel so recovered in a matter of a day. This is a very long answer to what most people think is a great question that only needs a short answer. But, it is not that easy. I am 47 until recently with new research I would spay or neuter my dogs male or female at 4 to 6 months. Often on the very day, they turned four months old. Many say the earliest the better because of this or because of that. Now I see things differently. First only spat or neuter if you in no way whatsoever want puppies. Let me explain. Wanting a puppy is different from wanting puppies. A puppy, you get from a reputable breeder. Littered are generally more than one puppy. No one else. IMO a reputable breeder does not have to show the dog or get any titles in it. A reputable breeder does all. Not all breeders must show dogs. If the breeder cannot get a home for all the puppies, then they should not have bred the dogs. .The more I have seen about this subject from reputable studies the more confident I am in saying the only cancers it really lessens the chance of from what I have read are the ones connected to the items being removed because they are not there to get uterine or testicular cancer. Chances for prostate and breast cancer are lessened since the sex organs removed create hormones that can lead to those cancers. What are the Outcomes of Neutering my Pug Puppy? Fixing a dog is not a solution to straying, aggression, or any one of the many things that many people including vets claim. It is not a wonder cure. Proper training hopefully positive training is what makes for a well-behaved, well-mannered dog of either gender. Rough play is just that, play. Again, if you think it is too rough, correct it. When you adopted the dog, you became its parents. I have seen many people adopt a dog at 8 weeks old and either expect it to be completely trained including ere and poop at that time. I've seen others who flat-out do no training and expect the dog to be obedient. Most often I have seen this in owners of small dogs. All dogs can be trained and bad behavior is bad behavior. If you had two children who played like that, would you just sit back and watch or would you discipline them? Do you oh I have a habit of saying you when I mean a person or owner, I'm not talking specifically about the person answering the question, but everyone have a child and then teach him or her nothing? Do you expect the child to learn not to put their hand in a fire, walk in front of cars, stay with you in a store, or even play nice with siblings and friends from the day they are 8 weeks old and forever without intervention, teaching, and discipline? Okay, the same thing with a dog. You don't take a misbehaving boy to the doctor and say I'm having problems with him and have great difficulty controlling him, please take off his balls. Not funny but I know some readers are now cringing or laughing. It is not good for all dogs to get fixed early in life. Well, some of those hormones are necessary for development. Sometimes it does affect the size. Some dogs get larger and others don't grow as much when they are snipped not all but some , but the hormones for muscle development, tendons, and connective tissue are not all present at the time they are needed if they are fixed too soon. Females get an extra umph of the hormones in their heats seasons, earthen, or whatever you want to call it that is why it is so important to allow a female to have their first heats before breeding the first time. Without these hormones, the joints and related tissues do not develop as well as they can, especially in larger breeds! In the smaller breeds, who generally do not have hip dysplasia problems, it is not as important, so they can generally be snipped earlier. This allows proper development. The development could be key to functioning longer in life without pain…running with their human jogging partner, playing with friends, etc. If you cannot do the 2 years, then try your best for one year. This is done to improve behavior and prevent reproduction. Neutering can be done as early as 8 weeks of age. This is a very important surgery that should only be done by a veterinarian who has experience performing this type of procedure. The surgery involves removing the testicles so that sperm production will cease and no more hormones will be produced by these glands. It also helps with behavioral problems in dogs that originate from sexual frustration, such as mounting and humping. Yes, boxers do calm down after being spayed or neutered, but this is not the whole picture you should know. It may help reduce some unwanted behaviors such as roaming and marking, but there are many other factors that can contribute to these behaviors as well. You see, boxers are a very active breed. They need lots of exercise and playtime in order to release the energy that comes with being young, active dogs. Benefits of Neutering a Boxer Dog While it does seem cruel, there are actually a number of benefits when you neuter your boxer, most health-related. A study has concluded that the lifespan of dogs increased after being neutered. Its findings suggest that dogs will live an average of .When dogs are neutered, they are less likely to develop prostate cancer, which can be a serious condition in older dogs. Neutering your pup also reduces his risk of contracting a urinary tract infection, which can be painful and inconvenient. It can also help prevent your boxer from developing testicular cancer. This reduces the risk of contracting a contagious disease like canine herpes, which can be easily transmitted during mating season. Neutering your boxer dog also makes him less aggressive and less likely to bite, or start humping when they are young puppies. Cons of Neutering a Boxer Dog There are a few cons to neutering your boxer dog, and these should be considered carefully before making a final decision. The first one is that there is a slight risk of your dog developing a joint disorder as a result of neutering. This frequently occurs in large breed dogs when they are neutered too young before one year old. Hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and cranial cruciate ligament injuries are examples of common joint issues that can develop. The fact that a change in behavior is not always assured after neutering your boxer is possibly another drawback. After surgery, some dogs actually become more aggressive, but this is more of an anomaly than the rule. It rarely happens to most dog breeds except spaniels such as the Cocker Spaniel, and it is not a health risk but rather just an aesthetic one. Also: best age to spay a female boxer The best age to neuter a male boxer or spay a female boxer is after 2 years old. Most veterinarians will advise neutering a Boxer between the ages of 6 and 12 months as they have not reached sexual maturity and can be easily trained to be housebroken. In fact, this also becomes commonly regurgitated around the internet in articles which is not that accurate. A study discovered that this is not always the case and should be looked at on a breed-to-breed basis just like Dobermans need to be neutered after 1 year of age. Neutering your male boxer does not affect his ability to fight or bite, but it does reduce his aggression toward other dogs. It also reduces the risk of prostate disease and testicular cancer later in life. There are some articles and comments out there that talk about neutering your dog before 6 months, which is very dangerous advice to follow. There runs a high risk of your boxer experiencing significant side effects of neutering. Neutering your boxer dog before 6 months of age can result in his height and growth being stunted and may also affect his ability to develop strong bones and muscles, which can be problematic if he is expected to put on a lot of weight as an adult. They will be able to tell you precisely when your boxer is ready to be neutered and help you determine whether the benefits outweigh the risks. Now, thanks to technology, you can speak to one without leaving your home. When should we neuter dogs? March 01, When should we neuter dogs? It depends By R. Scott Nolen Published on February 18, Spaying and neutering pet dogs and cats not meant for breeding has long been the standard in veterinary medicine. Yet, recent research linking gonadectomy to higher incidences of certain diseases in neutered dogs is raising questions about a procedure once thought relatively safe. Earlier this year, the AVMA House of Delegates devoted a portion of its Veterinary Information Forum to this issue after two studies published in the journal Frontiers in Veterinary Science in July reported associations between neutering and higher rates of joint disorders and cancers in some mixed-breed dogs and dogs of particular breeds. The team of veterinary researchers from the University of California-Davis also reported certain dog breeds were at greater risk of disease if spayed or neutered before 1 year of age and, especially, if spayed or neutered before 6 months of age. For instance, the recovery time is longer and the procedure is more expensive for older dogs than for younger dogs undergoing ovariohysterectomy. Retention of deciduous teeth is not uncommon in toy dog breeds, and retained teeth have frequently been removed at the same time the dog was neutered. That may not be possible if gonadectomy is delayed until after the first year. Science says? Veterinarians and the animal shelter community have long promoted neutering pet dogs and cats not meant for breeding, most notably to prevent litters of unwanted puppies and kittens. Although various alternatives to gonad removal exist, such as vasectomies and hysterectomies, gonadectomy is by far the most common procedure practiced by veterinarians. Still, the relationship between sex hormones and canine health is not well understood. But there is reason to suspect that absence may contribute to negative health outcomes as well. Benjamin Hart led the research teams that produced the recently published studies. The first, published July 7, looked at joint disorders, cancers, and urinary incontinence associated with spaying and neutering in 35 dog breeds. The second, published July 31, covered joint disease and cancers in mixed-breed dogs of various weights. Each individual animal must be considered, and veterinarians should inform the client about all the issues and let them make an informed decision about their pet. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Both reports provide guidelines for minimizing disease risks associated with spaying and neutering. For example, the recommendation for female Golden Retrievers, given the increased occurrence of cancers regardless of age at the time of spaying, is to leave females intact or spay them at 1 year of age and remain vigilant for cancers. Hart explained. As with all studies linking gonadectomy with higher disease rates, the UC-Davis studies have been criticized. During the HOD information forum, Dr. The American College of Theriogenologists and the Society for Theriogenology maintain that companion animals not intended for breeding should be spayed or neutered unless the procedure is contraindicated. Moreover, any potential consequences to the individual animal must be weighed against the necessity for population management. Kendall Houlihan, an AVMA assistant director of animal welfare The simple fact is that there is no single recommendation concerning gonadectomy that is appropriate for every dog. There are just too many variables to account for, including breed, sex, age, and body type. Whether to spay or neuter must therefore be decided on a case-by-case basis. During the HOD reference committee discussions, Dr. Rens van Dobbenburgh, president of the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe, said similar talks were taking place across the Atlantic, where opinions on the timing of spay or neuter are mixed. The good news is there is no shortage of resources to help veterinarians in that decision-making process. Its purpose is to provide WSAVA members the latest information to aid them in making recommendations as to the most appropriate approach to neutering in their patients.

To all of the fur-babies I've loved. Delilah was younger and a little healthier, but very broken. But 1 day my sweet girl realized she could trust us and had a forever home and found her voice! And what a sassy old lady she became! Delilah enjoyed traveling, we bought a camper so so could always be with us. Unfortunately her health got the best of her and she went to meet up with her brother. We adopted her when she was 13, so getting to spend 3 years with her was such a blessing. She loved to play fetch even when she could barely see the ball, she loved belly rubs and peanut butter. Her favorite thing ever was getting to go to the monthly meet and greets mainly to receive pets from everybody and volunteering at other events. The hardest part about losing Nina was how quiet our house was the day after. We love you Nina and so happy we got to take care of my amazing little nugget. Please remember his as we do as a lovable, cuddly boy who loved his bed and his family. She is the sweetest dog anyone has ever met and a great companion to have around. She has this little smile and it will light up your entire day in one instant. We went on countless walks and many vet visits. She was an alpha personality and loved life. Hardly ever barked and loved to be with other dogs. I miss her daily. He will be greatly missed by his parents, brothers one dog, one human and everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. During thunderstorms, she would bark at the door, to keep her family safe. My mother loved Noli and Noli loved Mom. I miss them both. We were so fortunate to have adopted him and his brother Mugsy from a rescue in Indiana. He gave us joy and love every day and never ever forgot his 8pm treat time. Even on his last night he made his way over to my chair, sat in front of me and waited for his treats. He was regal and reserved and the leader of his grumble - the alpha dog. He was the first out the door in the morning and the first to start the daily barking - at the neighbors, at other dogs, at anything moving in the trees - and he patrolled his yard with his fast moving little legs. He could catch food in his little mouth like a circus performer and he liked nothing more than ending the day with a neck rub and a Nutter Butter. He brought a lot of happiness to the people who loved him and a lot of comfort too when times we hard, with his quiet unassuming ways. God never made a better dog. I was so happy to get my own dog. She was the best thing that ever entered my life. She would run all around the backyard everyday. One day, I noticed a change in her. I took her to the vet and they said she had mast cell cancer. She loved dressing up and running big circles around big dogs at the dog park. Her best friend was a boxer and she loved chasing the kids. She got to spend one night in our forever home and we woke up to her having trouble breathing. I took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with end-stage lung cancer. It was so abrupt and we had a hard time accepting the loss of our baby girl. We still miss her every day. I was so happy! My three kids were also happy not just for me, but to have a other dog in the house! I looked into the dog's brown and said "Welcome to your forever.I named her Lucky because.I have always wanted to have a dog named. My oldest, Lucy, 5 years old said " she looks like a Rascal! Unfortunately for him she bonded to me more and followed me everywhere, Her favorite place was on the couch, her favorite activity was eating. She developed mast cell cancer and it got bad fast. We couldn't let her suffer for our benefit so now she is gone. Pugs are the best little buddies ever! MIss you dear Stella! She brought so much joy to our family and our love for her had no boundaries. She was such a special girl and fought so hard! While her body gave out here on earth, it gives me peace knowing she's now strong, able to run and is without pain. Thanks again to all of you for loving and supporting her through her journey. He was loved so much and we are broken without him. Heaven gained a true angel and we will never ever forget him. We lost her so sudden and unexpectedly, of an unknown cause, at only 6 years old. She had passed in the night peacefully in bed with our son. She was our very first pug and was such a fun, playful, stubborn, and feisty little thing. She especially loved her alligator, Mr. Moo, and hot dog toys. Whenever we would return home from being gone she would get so excited and would howl…. She loved to lick the dishes clean while I was loading the dishwasher. Taking her to the vet or to get her nails trimmed was always quite the challenge! She often followed me wherever I went, even to the bathroom! She had the most pet-able head, and her tail was tight like a cinnamon bun. We loved how she would get so excited for Christmas and Easter mornings, just like our kids. Lily always got presents too! Lily was such a huge part of our family and was included in family photos. Although we lost her way too soon, we are deeply thankful for the short time we had with her. She will hold a special place in all of our hearts and we will be reminiscing about her often. Our special memories will carry us forward until we meet again, sweet Lily Bug. We will dearly miss him every day, he will always be in our hearts. Until I see you again Harley,R. She was the reason we rushed home after work, and the keeper of our hearts. We lost her to cancer after only 9 short years. Not a day goes by that we don't speak of her. Some people say that animals don't have souls. One day with Petunia would change their minds. My sweet girl wouldn't leave my side when I was sick. When I had a tough day she was there trying to cheer me up with cuddles and kisses. Petunia was pure love, and she is dearly missed. We all miss you Maxie Boy. We are devastated. Maya was the center of our lives. She made every day better, listened to all our problems and made us laugh at her quirky antics. We cherished her every snort, snore, rabbit hop, and attempt to eat bubbles and rain. Maya can never be replaced and will always and forever be the Pug that changed our lives for the better. She left broken hearts behind as she crossed the Rainbow Bridge but we thank god for every moment we were blessed to be her family. In a perfect world we will be with her again one day. We will love her forever. I was never able to have children. God, knew my heart and desire to be a mom, so gave me Chloe. She gave me 15 too short, beautiful years of PURE love and joy. If love, could have kept her here she would have stayed with me forever. You are forever loved and missed my precious baby, Momma. She is greatly missed. Daisy girl, I will forever cherish the happy memories we made together. Thank you for your unconditional love and for allowing me the privilege of loving and caring for you. I wish we had been able to have more time together but I am grateful for the time we had. I no longer rush home from work each day just to see you and sometimes, I forget that you're really gone. But, you still make me smile and warm my heart when I think of you. I love you my girl, my Baby Dee-Dee. He was funny, courageous, always hungry and the love of my life. We had a very special bond, we spent every minute together when I was home. We snuggled every night, and Piglet knew when I went to work, mom would be back soon. Piglet passed from an unknown illness, and it has broken my heart. She was so loyal, protective and loving. She would watch TV with me and play with me all the time, she kept me company and never left my side. At times she even went to work with me, and she loved it. She was so smart and knew exactly what I needed and I knew what she needed. She will forever be missed. I have a hole in my heart now and pray she doesn't feel like I left her at the Vet. I was on my way to pick her up so she could be home with mom, her favorite place to be when she didn't feel well, when I received the call that she had passed. I wish I would have taken her home the night before when I was visiting her and she gave me that look like mom, please don't leave me here. Piggy, I love you so much and miss you more than I could have ever imagined. Donna Williams.
