labradoodle puppies do they shed
Jug Dog Video History Although proper historical details regarding the origination of this breed is not available, the first crossing of its parents is said to take place in the s in the United States of America. Temperament The fearless, energetic and intelligent nature of the Jack Russell Terrier combined with the loving, sociable nature of the pug has made the jug dog a gentle, adorable and active breed. Being very alert, they are keen to know and be involved in all that is going around them. Some of them have inherited an obsession for digging and hunting instinct from the Jack Russell Terrier, making them bark aggressively at chipmunks or squirrels. They are loyal to their owner but may become stubborn at times. When left alone for long, these apartment dogs get destructive. Though friendly and tolerant towards other animals and family children when socialized, certain pug-like qualities endowed in them make them sensitive and jealous of the other pets and kids present in the household. Care Exercise This small, energetic breed needs at least 30 minutes of regular exercise in order to be physically and mentally fit. Provision of a large backyard or open space helps them to play and jog around freely. They even enjoy going out for family outings. Grooming The short coat of the jug dog makes it very easy to maintain. However, Jugs with longer hair and a rough coat need to be regularly brushed and maintained well. Occasional bathing and regular cleaning of their teeth and mouth ensure proper hygiene. Health Problems Certain congenital diseases inherited from both their parents are observed in them. Jug dogs that have a small muzzle like the pug develop certain respiratory disorders. Apart from this, they may also suffer from skin problems, allergies, inflamed cornea, weepy eyes, dislocation of the kneecaps, cherry eyes and so on. Therefore, the trainer is required to handle the dog in a firm and patient manner as harshness or punishment may make it shy away or react in an aggressive manner. However being quick learners, they will respond well when given rewards. Socialization and obedience training are also to be imparted since their puppy days so that they may get along well with strangers and other animals. Proper leash training is also to be given to keep their hunting instincts under control. Feeding Their diet should comprise of vitamin, protein, carbohydrates, fats and minerals. An adult dog should be given half cup of good quality dog food divided into two equal meals. The Jug dog puppies are to be fed with one-third cup of dog food three times a day when they are below six months of age. Whereas from six months to a year their feeding proportion is three-fourth cup of dog food divided into three meals. Whole proteins like lamb, turkey, eggs, chicken and beef as well as digestible carbohydrates like barley, oats and rice should also be included in their diet. Interesting facts These sturdy, healthy dogs may live up to 20 years when maintained well. They have special interest in games like tug-of-war, or fetching or hiding. It is one of the recent breeds to be registered by the American Canine Hybrid Club. If you decide to buy a puppy from a breeder, you need to find a reputable and responsible breeder to avoid dealing with a puppy mill. The Jug can be quite energetic because of its Jack Russell heritage but will also be calm thanks to the Pug. They can be easily trained because they are intelligent but might be prone to small dog stubbornness. They are overall healthy dogs with long lifespans and are very friendly and social dogs. The Jug is best for apartments or houses, depending on their nature. The Jug can be the best of both parents. The Jug has been around since the s. They are thought to have been crossbred in the s in America and are currently one of the more popular hybrid dogs. These are feisty, loving dogs that do not do well when left alone for long, and as long as the Jugs have been well socialized, they love playing with other dogs and children. They are also very courageous dogs that will stand their ground no matter the threat. Are These Dogs Good for Families? If there are younger children in the household, they should be supervised and need to be taught how to approach and play with a dog appropriately and gently. The Jug will bond well with everyone in the family and enjoys spending time and playing with everyone. They do have a strong prey drive and might attempt to chase smaller animals, but happy and positive relationships will form if they are raised with them. An average of just under 1 cup per day spread out to twice per day should be sufficient. Allowing the Jug time to run, and playtime with a ball are additional exercises that will benefit your dog immensely. Only use positive reinforcement with the Jug or aggressive and destructive behaviors might emerge. However, if your Jug has more of a rough coat taken after their rough-coated Jack Russell parent, they will need to be brushed more often. JackPug Description The Jug is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Jack Russell Terrier and the Pug. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of thecharacteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. She takes after the JRT and is very high energy and very intelligent. Jugs should have access to a fenced yard as they love to run and dig. They will chase squirrels , rabbits, etc. He has lots of curiosity and play drive, but is equally interested in lap time with Mommy. He also enjoys time with our other mixed breed dog Terra whose mother was a purebred Golden Retriever and we believe a black Lab father. In Ollie's case, he requires a lamb and rice dog food, and I must ensure no one gives him anything with pork in it. I love watching Cesar Millan's the Dog Whisperer and have taken lots of tips from the show in regards to being the pack leader. I was a dog trainer with the local county 4-H program and have been around all types of breeds for many years; Cesar's principals are phenomenal. Ollie can have an attitude when he does not get what he wants when he wants it, so I really do have to use the firm assertive-dominant role with him. He has a super high drive to watch for squirrels and chipmunks and will bark very aggressively toward them. I sometimes let him outside on the enclosed deck to chase them away, HA HA. He thinks it's great. I also developed a toy that he really has a drive to play with; it is a hard plastic ball, large enough not to get stuck in his jaws which can really be strong and it has two metal ball bearings inside it. I let him chase it all over the 1st floor of our home. I just close off sections with lots of places for it to get stuck. I also have the main play area pretty well ball proofed. If it gets stuck somewhere he will usually come and get me but you have to keep an eye or an ear out for him since he takes out his frustration on anything nearby. This includes extension cords, patio door blinds or the ottoman. Having consistency on the rules of good behavior during playtime keeps the house from being taken over by this little character. So overall, this breed is a joy to have around. He is my constant companion, loves attention from anyone and of course thinks he's the best. I really fell in love with his looks on first sight but his personality has truly taken my heart. She can do that and she can stand and spin in a circle. She loves kids and other animals; she has never hurt a fly. She loves everyone. Her name is Zoey. She was the only white Jug out of the litter. We love her very much. Bugs is four months old. His mom is a Jack Russell Terrier and his dad is a Pug. My husband bought Bugs for me as a Christmas present. Bugs is wonderful and smart, however he demands a lot of attention and exercise. When we are not working we walk Bugs a couple of miles a day. When working, we take him with us and walk him every time we are on a break. He wasn't too difficult to housebreak.I took him to the vet yesterday for his final puppy series and first rabies. He may be a small dog, but he has a big dog attitude. He fears nothing. Bugs is so very sweet. He is very affectionate, but enjoys roughhousing as well. He sometimes bites when playing and we are working on that. He does not like to be told "No. When you tell him No, he looks at you quizzically and then barks at you to express his annoyance. I love him and he is awesome. He loves going through drive-throughs at restaurants where people will tell him how adorable he is. Although, he is very hyper Jack Russell. I got Nugly when he was 3 months old from a pet store. It only took me 2 weeks to have him housebroken and 3 weeks to have him sitting, lying down on command and giving me paw. He is very intelligent. She can be quite greedy and has the tenacity of a Jack Russell Terrier. She loves to play and has been complimented on how placid she is around people. She has been a great delight to have in our home. Tootie is extremely intelligent and energetic. It was love at first sight with her and my son 4 years old. Everywhere we take her we are literally stopped by people off the street because she is just sooo CUTE. At times she can be sneaky and tries to get away with things she should not be doing. She fits in well with my kids. We love Tootie very much! Life Span Did You Know? In addition to the best characteristics from each parent breed, a Jug should also have a slightly longer nose to help alleviate the breathing problems common to snub-nosed breeds like the Pug. Although the Jug is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, they are recognized by other notable canine organizations. Jugs are affectionate, playful, and charming dogs that love their families. They tend to get along well with children and other dogs. They can inherit the high prey drive from their terrier parent, which can require extra socialization with other small pets in the household. They will be alert watchdogs and can be prone to barking a lot. Training your dog to stop barking early on can help prevent this from becoming a nuisance behavior. They can also be protective, but will warm up to strangers once introduced as long as they have been appropriately socialized. A Jug is a moderately adaptable dog. Although they can adapt well to larger homes as well as apartments, they are sensitive to weather and temperature changes. As a brachycephalic breed, they are very sensitive to heat. Their short coat and big eyes make them sensitive to the cold, so you will likely need to get some winter dog products for walks when the temperature drops. These dogs also bond closely with their families and do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. This makes them prone to developing separation anxiety if you do not work with them on this early and often. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Jug include skin conditions, luxating patella , cherry eye, and respiratory disorders. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing issues to puppies, so make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both of the patents. Like their parents, Jugs can also be prone to developing seasonal allergies. They are also still a brachycephalic dog breed, so they can still be prone to breathing problems, especially in the heat. As a small dog breed, they are also more prone to developing dental disease. Gum disease in dogs is one of the most common health problems in dogs and it can lead to other serious health problems. A Jug is an intelligent dog that picks up on things quickly and is generally eager to please. They can sometimes be stubborn if they inherit a stubborn streak from their Jack Russell parent. But, overall, they tend to be highly trainable dogs that are a good fit for owners of all levels. A Jug tends to have a short coat that will shed moderately year-round. Weekly brushing or brushing a few times a week with the occasional bath as needed is usually enough to keep a Jug coat healthy and looking great. Weekly ear checks with careful ear cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. Daily dental care plus cleanings at the vet as needed are essential for preventing painful dental diseases later in life. A Jug is a small dog with moderate exercise requirements. Although they will be energetic when they play, they are not high-energy dogs. Daily walks plus some playtime throughout the day are usually enough to keep this dog happy and healthy. These dogs can be active and athletic, but you do need to keep an eye on them to make sure they are not overheating. Taking breaks and distributing exercise into short bursts throughout the day are some safe ways to exercise flat-faced dogs. A fully-grown Jug usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. Jugs generally live for years. Although this breed is most commonly called a Jug, they are sometimes also referred to as a Jack Pug or a Jack Russell Pug. How do you treat German Shepherd skin allergies? Treating German Shepherd skin allergies involves a blend of dietary adjustments, supplements, allergy-specific medications, and topical treatments like shampoos or creams to soothe irritation. When treating skin allergies in German Shepherds, the first line of action often involves identifying and eliminating the source of the allergy. This could be certain foods, environmental factors, or specific materials like certain fabric types. A vet may conduct allergy tests to pinpoint the exact allergen. Once the allergen has been identified, it is crucial to remove it from the dog's environment or diet. If the allergen can't be completely avoided, several medical treatments are available, including antihistamines, corticosteroids, and immunosuppressants. Some German Shepherds might require a combination of these treatments to effectively manage their allergies. Along with medical treatments, dietary changes can make a significant difference. Foods rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, such as fish oil, can help reduce inflammation and improve skin health. Similarly, certain supplements can enhance the immune system, helping the dog's body better deal with allergens. Topical treatments, such as medicated shampoos or creams, can relieve itchy and inflamed skin. Regular bathing can remove allergens from the coat and skin, reducing irritation. Are skin allergies common in German Shepherds? Yes, skin allergies are quite common in German Shepherds due to their dense coat and susceptibility to immune system disorders, which can lead to allergies. Skin allergies in German Shepherds are a common health issue due to several factors. First, German Shepherds have a double coat that can trap allergens such as pollen, dust, and mold, leading to allergic reactions. Second, the breed has a genetic predisposition to autoimmune disorders, which can make them more susceptible to allergies compared to other breeds. There are several types of skin allergies German Shepherds can develop. These include food allergies, atopic dermatitis caused by environmental allergens like pollen or dust mites , and contact dermatitis caused by a reaction to certain substances like specific fabrics or types of grass. Symptoms typically include itching, redness, and inflammation; in severe cases, hair loss and skin infections may occur. If you notice your German Shepherd constantly scratching, biting, or licking their skin, or if they develop skin rashes, hives, or other skin abnormalities, it's important to seek veterinary attention to determine if allergies are the cause and to initiate appropriate treatment. By managing allergen exposure and using appropriate treatments, the allergic reactions can be controlled, contributing to a better quality of life for your German Shepherd. Do grains cause skin allergies in German Shepherds? Grains can potentially cause skin allergies in German Shepherds, but it's not always the case. Some dogs may be sensitive or allergic to specific grains leading to skin issues. Whole grains such as wheat, corn, and soy are common allergens for many dogs, including German Shepherds. It is important to understand that not all dogs will react adversely to these foods. Sensitivity to grains often manifests as a food allergy, which can cause various symptoms, including skin problems. However, a true grain allergy is less common than sensitivity or intolerance. If your German Shepherd has a grain allergy, you might notice signs such as chronic ear infections, excessive scratching, skin rashes, and gastrointestinal problems like vomiting and diarrhea. Determining a grain allergy typically involves an elimination diet, where suspected allergens are removed from the diet, and then gradually reintroduced to see if symptoms recur. However, it's important to remember that grains are not the only potential cause of skin allergies. Protein sources such as beef, dairy, chicken, and eggs are common dog allergens. Thus, if your German Shepherd is experiencing skin allergies, it's crucial to work with your vet to identify the root cause, which could be grains or other food components. Always consult a veterinarian for accurate diagnosis and treatment. Final words Dealing with skin allergies in German Shepherds can be a challenging task. Choosing the right food for a dog with itchy skin depends on the underlying cause. It could be a food allergy, environmental factors, or a skin condition. A diet high in essential fatty acids, particularly omega-3s, can help nourish and protect the skin. Hypoallergenic diets or limited ingredient diets can also be beneficial, particularly if the itching is due to a food allergy. Always consult a vet for individual dietary advice. Brands with negative reviews or recall history should also be avoided. German Shepherds thrive on high-quality, balanced diets. Foods that rely heavily on grains, low-quality proteins, and artificial preservatives or flavors can contribute to health problems, including digestive issues and skin allergies. Also, some brands have been subject to recalls due to contamination issues. Always check the ingredients and company reputation before choosing a food for your German Shepherd. Flea allergies are highly common in German Shepherds. They are allergic to the flea's saliva, leading to severe itching, redness, and discomfort after a flea bite. Flea allergy dermatitis is a prevalent issue among German Shepherds. The allergic reaction occurs when a flea bites a dog, leaving behind its saliva. The proteins in the flea's saliva can trigger an intense allergic response, causing symptoms like severe itching, inflammation, and skin lesions. Regular flea control measures can help manage this common allergy. German Shepherds' most common skin allergies are flea allergy dermatitis, food allergies, and environmental allergies, such as dust mites or pollen. In German Shepherds, flea allergy dermatitis, food allergies, and environmental allergies are the most prevalent skin conditions. These allergies can cause itching, redness, and discomfort. Identifying the specific allergen can help manage these issues effectively, reducing the severity of symptoms. The best approach to a German Shepherd's itchy skin is identifying the cause, and if it's an allergy, a hypoallergenic diet, vet-approved skin supplements, and regular grooming can greatly help. Identifying and eliminating the cause of itchy skin is essential for German Shepherds. If allergies are the root cause, a hypoallergenic diet can significantly reduce symptoms. Regular grooming helps to keep the skin clean and healthy, while vet-approved supplements can support skin health and boost the immune response. Your German Shepherd might be allergic to chicken if they show signs like itching, skin rashes, or digestive issues after consumption. Try switching to a different protein source and consult a vet. Food allergies, including chicken, can be common in German Shepherds. If your dog shows signs such as persistent itching, skin rashes, or digestive problems after eating chicken, it might indicate a food allergy. Switching to a different protein source and monitoring your dog's reaction can help identify if chicken is the problem. However, any suspected allergies should be discussed with a veterinarian for accurate diagnosis and treatment. Always consult with your vet. Hypoallergenic diets for German Shepherds typically involve food that has novel proteins, such as venison, rabbit, or duck, to which your dog has yet to be exposed. Hydrolyzed proteins are also used because they're broken down to a size less likely to trigger an immune response. Grain-free or limited-ingredient diets can also help identify and control allergens. The opposite side is giving your pup the wrong food that may lead to serious growth and digestive problems. Things to consider before choosing dog food for German Shepherds puppies 1. Their growth Puppies may need different nutrients at different stages depending on their growth rate. For instance, a puppy in the weaning stage between three to four weeks will need more antioxidants which are found in foods containing Vitamin C and E. In contrast, a teething puppy will need wet dog food which is easily digestible food on its tummy to minimize intestinal upset. For instance, a younger puppy may have difficulty eating larger food pieces than an older puppy. Teething If your dog is teething, which starts at around three weeks, you may want to consider food that contains calcium like dairy and bone broth for strong and healthy teeth. Dogs over the age of one are considered adults, except for some large and giant breeds who do not fully mature until age two. You may see variations of these nutrient profiles on dog food packaging. Step 2. Read the food label The label is the most important thing you should check when deciding which puppy food to pick. Here are the 3 things you would like to read on the packaging: a. List of ingredients The list of ingredients should have the main ingredient as the first ingredient then followed by the rest according to their percentage. For instance, in the label below the first five ingredients, are chicken as the main ingredient, ground whole grain corn, chicken by-product meal, ground whole grain sorghum, corn gluten meal and dried plain beet pulp. Feeding guidelines This will show you how much food and how many times you should feed your puppy. Watch this video if you want to better understand the wording on a dog food packaging means: Step 3. Where can you find a pug-golden retriever mix? Finding natural golden retriever pug mix puppies is uncommon. If there is a breeder, who is offering such cross-bred pups online for sale or adoption, you should always check their credentials, certifications, and reviews before committing. In all probability, you will not find AKC American Kennel Club certified breeders offering their services in situations like these. The professionals, who offer such unconventional cross breeds, are either new or experimental breeders without relevant documentation. You are more likely to find accidental cross breeds between a miniature dog and a large dog at the shelters. That can happen when people own two dogs of opposite sex belonging to different breeds at home. It can also happen when a male pug impregnates a female golden retriever in heat at the dog park or a day-care kennel. Such instances are not rare and unprepared dog parents often have to resort to giving the new puppies up at shelters. In most cases, people do not risk adopting such uncommon cross bred pups since little is known about their genetic afflictions, general health, and temper. Why are golden retrievers such popular pets? A golden retriever is a docile, playful, intelligent, sensitive and adjusting breed. They are amazing for big homes that have other pets, children, and older people. They are even kind to strangers, although they are protective and loving to their family. Golden retrievers are in no way one-master dogs. They are very obedient and easy to train. Although they require high activity levels throughout life, you will often find them lazing on their beds and on your bed, when they get the chance multiple times a day. Their love for the humans rarely trumps their love for food. They love to be pampered, and they have a penchant for staying close to their humans. How are pugs as pets? Pugs are miniature energy bombs. It is surprising how someone so small never runs out of energy. They are always running about and making mischief when they are not lying on their back snoring away to glory. They are stout, but they are never aggressive. They are super fun loving. It is a little difficult to train them since they are highly intelligent and it does not take them too much effort to fool a human. They get along great with children, other small dogs, larger breeds and other pets. They are grossly funny, and you will always find a pug busy in some antic or another throughout the day unless they have to turn their attention to food. What can be the pros of having a pug-golden retriever mix? When golden retrievers cross with pugs, you do not get golden pugs! Well, it is possible for you to get your hands on a small sized pup that looks almost like a pug and has the golden sheen of a retriever, but the physical features will be a generous mix of both breeds. Therefore, it would be wrong to call it a golden pug. You can expect the new crossbred pup to have a longer snout that is not as snubbed as that of a purebred Pug. This will eliminate the breathing problems; palate issues and regular loud snoring pugs suffer from. On the other hand, pugs shed lesser than goldies. Thus, you can expect the new pooches with short golden fur to shed lesser than their golden parent. The pup should have the happy-go-lucky attitude that its parents have along with genuine love towards the human species. Additionally, they should be incredibly intelligent and easy to train. What are the potential risks of a pug-golden retriever cross? These are the positive trait possibilities we can expect from the pug golden retriever mixes. When breeders first try out crossing two separate breeds, there is no guarantee that the resulting puppies will be the best of both parents. There have been breeding disasters in the past. Cross breeding two distinct dog breeds results in unpredictable combinations of genes that can give rise to serious health problems. For example — the new pug-golden retriever mix can inherit the palate problem of pugs and the joint problems of golden retrievers. Further inheriting the love for food and the tendency to gain weight from both breeds can exacerbate these problems significantly. The threat of potential health problems has led several pet lovers and breeders to be apprehensive about new breeds coming in the market. Unless you know about previous litters from the same parents, who have been doing well for quite a few years and you can get a veterinarian to certify the puppies as healthy, you should always be a skeptic. Know for sure that they will not receive AKC certifications, and they will not be able to participate in the first-tier dog shows. If you are only thinking about adopting cross bred pups from the shelter and giving them a home, then it should not be a problem. In most cases, people do not desire or adopt such uncommon mixes and giving them a safe and loving home will be the best thing in their life. Knowing all the pug mixes , can help you decide which ones to go for. Appearance is one thing, but the traits and temperaments matter too! Luckily, we have all these information for you. Our staff are avid fans and dedicated owners of Pugs. We hope to answer all the questions you have about Pugs. Just read and enjoy. Feel free to share if you find it valuable to others! Best regards, As pugs and golden retrievers vastly differ in their sizes, the size of a full-grown golden pug falls somewhere in the middle. Their appearance is somewhat of a short-statured golden with a face that closely resembles that of a pug. Their muzzle is longer than a pug, but not to the point of being as long as a golden retriever. They also have slightly upturned noses. They do tend to have small wrinkles around their noses. One notable characteristic of pugs is their very tightly curled tails. Golden retrievers, on the other hand, have very long elegant tails with long hair. Golden pugs have a slightly curled tail that has medium-length hair. How Big a Golden Pug Gets When creating hybrid breeds with the first generation, it can be hard to determine if the golden pug will turn out a similar size to either a pug or a golden retriever. While those two breeds vastly differ in height, a golden pug falls somewhere in between. That can provide a lot of variation as pugs are typically 14 pounds, while golden retrievers can reach up to 75 pounds. There is also the difference in height, with a pug standing at 10 inches and a golden retriever standing at 24 inches. One of the benefits of hybrid dogs is that once the first generations are created, then it no longer becomes a process of breeding a purebred pug with a purebred retriever but breeding two golden pugs together. With many hybrid dogs, you see smaller and larger versions. Depending on the demand, a breeder will select golden pugs of similar stature to continue to generate puppies around that size. While pugs have very short hair, golden retrievers sport long flowing hair. When combined, the result is that the golden pug has a single or double-layer flat coat that is of medium length. While they shed, they shed far less than a golden retriever does. With proper brushing and grooming, their coat can remain smooth and you will see less shedding. This combination produces a cute and loving canine. But what are these dogs like? This article will break down everything you need to know about the Pug and Golden Retriever mix. Stick around to find out! The short answer to this question is yes, a Pug can mate with a Golden Retriever. This combination of dog breeds has been bred many times and produces an adorable-looking dog. The typical route to achieving a Pug and Golden Retriever mix is by having one Pug parent and one Golden Retriever parent. However, this is not the only way to get to the desired dog. Hybrid breeders can have two Pug and Golden Retriever mix parents, as well, and still end up with another Pug and Golden Retriever puppy. This speaks to the variety of techniques that breeders have nowadays. Many dog owners will be wondering: what can I call these cute little dogs? Well, most owners with these dogs tend to call them Golden Pugs. This short name takes a little from both parent breeds, making for a sweet option to call these canines. Another name that has been used is Golden Retriever Pug Mix. While this name is longer, it does provide the full names of both parent breeds, making it more informative than simply Golden Pug. Another central question that avid dog owners will have on their minds is about the size of the Pug and Golden Retriever mix. How big can these bad boys get? Golden Retriever This classic breed of dog can grow to between 21 — 24 inches tall , or about 2 feet in height. Their weight can be between 55 — 75 pounds, depending on whether you have a male or a female. Pug The other parent breed in this combination is the Pug. These canines can grow to between 10 — 13 inches in height, or about a foot. Their weight tends to range between 14 — 18 pounds. We see that the two parent breeds vastly differ in size. One is pretty big, while the other is pretty small. So how does that affect the Pug and Golden Retriever mix? Pug and Golden Retriever Mix When the parent breeds differ so greatly in size, the hybrid breed can kind of fall anywhere in between the parent ranges. That means the Pug and Golden Retriever Mix can be as small as 13 inches and 15 pounds, or as large as 22 inches and 65 pounds. The variety is purely a product of genetics and chance. With traditional pure-bred parents, the range is larger so it can really be anything. The next big question about Pug and Golden Retriever mixes is about their appearance: what do these dogs look like? You can kind of imagine it if you blend the qualities of a Pug and a Golden Retriever in your mind. Rounded face The first striking quality of the Golden Pug is that it has a rounded face, similar to that of the Pug itself. This face bears a slightly longer muzzle than on a traditional Pug, but not as long as that of a Golden Retriever. Slightly wrinkled face Another key component of the Golden Pug mix is the slightly wrinkled quality of the face. Unlike the rest of their body, the nose is actually a shade of black. This is common in Golden Pugs, and makes for an especially cute canine. Coat The coats of the parent breeds involved in this mix are vastly different. While the Golden Retriever features a long, thick coat, the Pug has a much shorter counterpart. Where does this leave the mix? Well, it usually has a single or double-layer medium coat. The Golden Retriever and Pug mix does not shed as much as its parents do; with proper grooming, you can minimize shedding throughout the year. Uncovering the Mystery of the Frenchie! The final component of the Pug and Golden Retriever mix is their personality. Friendly The parent breeds in this combination are both friendly dogs towards humans and other dogs. That makes the Pug and Golden Retriever mix just as friendly. They love to spend time playing with people, and other dogs. Intelligent Another key quality of the Pug and Golden Retriever mix is that they are intelligent dogs. The parent breeds in this equation both contribute solid genes for intelligence, making for a smart canine in the mix. Take advantage of this by training your puppy early. Establish good habits early on to prevent bad ones from coming up later. Loyal The final trait we have for the Pug and Golden Retriever mix is their loyalty. They make for loving companions for life, and offer reliable company to their humans. Post Views: .Most Golden Pug mixes are short-statured, round-bellied animals, owing mostly to their pug genes. They could also have a longer tail and perhaps a longer body like Golden Retrievers. Their physical characteristics are mostly split between the breeds and are most distinguishable in their faces and their bodies. Are you looking for a way to treat your furry friend? Meanwhile, in Scotland in the 19th century, breeders were crossing the Irish Setter with Spaniels of various types to create a dog filled with speed and agility, but equally playful nature for fetching ducks from hunts, as well as being a loyal companion. However, the initial breeding for the Golden Retriever is credited to Sir Dudley Marjoribanks, who cross-bred flat-coated retrievers with Tweed Water Spaniels. We can therefore surmise that the cross between the Pug and Golden Retriever is due to a desire to breed a smaller size, lower-energy dog — the desire, perhaps, to create an animal that would be a better fit with families of all types, though as above, the precise history of the crossbreed cannot be ascertained. According to the American Kennel Club, the Golden Retriever frequently ranks among the top five most popular dogs in America. Due to their lovable and friendly nature, the Golden Retriever is widely loved among all people, old or young, single or with families. The history of the Golden Retriever can be traced back to the Scottish Isles and to Sir Dudley Marjoribanks, who needed a dog that would be quick on its feet, lightweight, and agile enough to dart through thick undergrowth and wade into the water to fetch downed ducks — and strong enough to carry them. Fast-forward nearly years and the friendliness and lovable nature of the Retriever have made it the perfect family dog. Its fierce loyalty will make it the perfect protector, though it is not by nature aggressive. They tend to bark at anything that moves, making it a great guard dog for the home. Popular Golden Retriever mixes include:. They are a designer breed that is a cross between two purebreds, which studies suggest makes them healthier than their parent breeds due to increased hybrid vigor. It is useful to look into each of the Pug and Golden Retriever characteristics to give us a good idea on how they will develop. They have a square and stocky bodies with a rounded heads and flat muzzles. Pugs also have that characteristic wrinkly face, especially around their forehead, which gives them unique expressions. The Golden Retriever is one of the most well-loved dog breeds in the world because of their gentle and kind nature. They got their name from their lush, golden coat and their mastery in finding and retrieving game birds. They have a broad head, a straight muzzle, floppy ears, and comely, intelligent eyes. Golden Retrievers are prized for their smartness and have been greatly used to assist people with disabilities and also as therapy animals. Golden Retriever history The history of Golden Retrievers Sir Dudley Marjoribanks started developing the Golden Retriever in the s in Scotland with the goal of creating a gun dog that could withstand the wet climate and rugged terrain of the Scottish Highlands. Pug history The history of Pugs Pug history dates back to ancient China where they were kept as companion dogs by the nobility and even the Buddhist monks. They were prized for their flat faces and also their wrinkly forehead which some say resembles the Chinese character for good luck. They were introduced to Europe by Dutch traders during the 16th century and became popular as well with the royalty and the nobility. Queen Victoria of Great Britain famously became an enthusiast of the breed and helped in the establishment of The Kennel Club in .Save Big On Dog Essentials! Do Pugs and Golden Retrievers get along? Golden Retrievers, in particular, has a mellow and even-tempered nature which makes them one of the friendliest dog breeds around. Can Pug breed with Golden Retriever? This is why breeders may resort to in-vitro fertilization wherein the sperm of the male Pug is injected into the female Golden Retriever. Pug and Golden Retriever Mix physical appearance Golden Retriever Mixed with a Pug will have varying physical characteristics since they are not the purebred dog which has a standard look. Typically, Golden Pugs will have a muscular-looking body with a somewhat rounded head and globular eyes similar to the Pug. Pug Golden Retriever Mix Health All dogs have the potential to develop genetic health problems as all breeds are susceptible to some things more than others. However, the one positive thing about getting a puppy is that you can avoid this as much as possible. A breeder should absolutely offer a health guarantee on puppies. A reputable breeder will be honest and open about health problems in the breed and the incidence with which they occur. Health clearances prove that a dog has been tested for and cleared of a particular condition. The Dalmatian mixed with the Pug might be prone to skin problems, allergies, joint dysplasia Note that these are just common problems in both breeds. This will probably be a more than moderate shedder with the Pug offsetting some of the more aggressive shedding from the Retriever. Get ready to invest in a good vacuum and keep your floors clean anyways. Give them baths as needed, but not so much that you dry out their skin. What are the exercise requirements? Plan on taking them for extremely long walks and hikes to keep their energy level down. This exercise will keep them from being destructive. A tired dog is a good dog. What are the training requirements? This is an intelligent dog that should be easy to train. The best thing you can do is break the sessions into shorter daily sessions to keep their attention span higher. So make sure to praise her when she does well. She is an intelligent dog who loves to please, and loves a physical challenge. The more exercise she gets the easier she will be to train. Proper socialization is imperative to all dogs and puppies. Make sure to take her to the park and doggy day care to get her around as many people and dogs as possible. Each one is unique and has different dietary requirements. Most dogs in the U. A mix like this one that is prone to hip and elbow dysplasia should really be on fish oil and glucosamine and chondroitin supplements as soon as possible. Overfeeding any dog is not a good idea as that can really exacerbate health problems such as elbow and hip dysplasia. A good diet to look into is Raw Food Diet. A raw food diet will be especially good for the Wolf background. Links to other breeds you might be interested in. The Golden Retriever Pug mix, or Golden Pug, is one such hybrid dog breed that is in development right now. One day this dog may become a new purebred dog breed in its own right. Is the Golden Pug the right next companion canine for you? This speaks to the many different layers of hybrid dog breeding. Early generation hybrid dog breeders F1 and F1b may specialize in crossing two different purebred dog breeds such as the Golden Retriever and the Pug dog. Later-generation hybrid dog breeders F2 and later may focus on crossing hybrid parent dogs to produce ever greater uniformity among puppies. This is when a hybrid dog breed usually starts taking shape as a new potential purebred dog breed in its own right. What makes the video even cuter is how the two dogs are so different in size, height, weight, and appearance and yet they look sort of the same because they both have the same beautiful golden coat! The History of the Golden Retriever and the Pug One of the best ways to learn about the potential benefits of hybrid dog breeding is to study up on each parent dog and learn about desirable traits each dog could contribute to your mixed breed puppy. In this section, we take a closer look at the history of the Golden Retriever dog and then the history of the Pug dog so you can imagine what bringing the two breed lines together might produce in a puppy. Golden Retriever history Currently, the Golden Retriever is the third most popular out of American Kennel Club registered dog breeds purebred dog breed in America today. Only the Labrador and the German Shepherd are more popular than the Golden Retriever, and this is subject to change every year when the new poll results come out. Golden Retrievers are so loving and friendly, it is easy to see why they are a popular pick for families and individuals nationwide. These dogs always seem to be smiling and are always eager for human company and attention. The Golden Retriever breed came to us by way of crossbreeding between the Bloodhound, the Irish Setter and a dog breed that is no longer with us called the Tweed Water Spaniel. Pug history The Pug is the 28th most popular out of American Kennel Club registered dog breeds purebred dog breed in America today. The Pug is one of the most ancient dog breeds known today, with a breed history that dates back at least 2, years. The Pug, with their short, cute, flat faces and wide round eyes, continues to be a popular choice for a companion canine to all ages. Golden Retriever Pug Mix: Personality and Temperament Many families, in particular, are understandably concerned about choosing a family pet that will be a great canine companion to family members of all ages and, potentially, other family pets as well. How does the Golden Retriever Pug mix stack up in this area? As long as your Golden Retriever is getting enough you-time, exercise, and activity each day, you can feel confident you are choosing to share your life with a true canine friend. Golden Retriever Pug personality and temperament From this overview, you can infer that your Golden Pug is going to be reliably friendly and loving. What will your Golden Pug be like in adulthood? As you can see, it can be hard to predict! Golden Retriever size, height, and weight The Golden Retriever can grow up to weigh anywhere from 55 to 75 pounds, with males often weighing 10 to 15 pounds more than females. Similarly, Goldens typically will reach a paw pad to shoulder height of .Golden Retrievers tend to be very proportional, with long muzzles and solid bodies. Pug size, height, and weight Adult Pug dogs are quite a bit smaller than Golden Retrievers as adults. The average Pug dog will weigh 14 to 18 pounds and stand between 10 and 13 inches tall paw pads to shoulders. These dogs tend to be top-heavy, with broad faces, broad shoulders, and narrower hindquarters. Golden Retriever Pug size, height, and weight It can be challenging to predict the adult height, size, and weight of hybrid dog breeds where the two-parent dogs are quite different in these areas. With a weight difference of 14 to 75 pounds and a height difference of 10 to 24 inches, you can expect your Golden Pug puppy to grow up to be somewhere in the middle of these ranges. By choosing to work with a later-stage hybrid breeder who breeds hybrid Golden Pugs rather than purebred Golden Retriever Pug crosses, you can have a better idea from puppyhood how tall and heavy your adult dog will become. If you are not sure what type of breeder to choose, just ask the breeder what generation they work with. If they say F1 or F1b, this means they are working with an earlier generation and there will be more variance in the size, height, and weight of their puppies. However, if the breeder says F2, F2b, or later, this means they a reworking with hybrid crossbreeding and the puppies are more likely to be more consistent in terms of their adult size, height, and weight. However, they can have very different exercise needs, as you will see. Golden Retriever training and exercise needs The Golden Retriever is a true working dog breed with a naturally high energy level. These dogs respond best to positive training and plenty of outdoor play and exercise time. Pug training and exercise needs Pugs, with their short muzzles and breathing troubles, do just fine with indoor play and short walks at cooler times of the day. Golden Retriever Pug training and exercise needs Your Golden Pug may need more or less exercise depending on the influence of each parent dog. Either way, positive training methods will get you the best results with any puppy born from these two smart, sensitive dog breeds. All dog shed. But this in turn means the owner has a lot more brushing and grooming to do to keep tangles and mats from forming. This means you will have less brushing and grooming to do but more dead shed hair to contend with year-round and especially with the changing of the seasons. Golden Retriever shedding, grooming, and coat care Golden Retrievers are true working dogs and have the water-resistant, insulating double-layer coat to prove it. Any dog with a double layer coat is always going to do more shedding year-round and seasonally. This is because the coat needs to replenish itself so it can protect the dog well all year long. Golden Retrievers have a mid-length coat and do need regular brushing to keep the skin healthy and control dead, shed hair. Pug shedding, grooming, and coat care It often surprises Pug fans to learn that Pugs do shed rather a lot given their short, sleek coats. Not all Pugs have double layer coats, but many do. With a double layer, the coat comes more shedding, especially when the seasons are changing. Your dog may be single-coated or double-coated, but either way, there will be some shedding and sweeping year-round. Golden Retriever Pug Mix: Longevity and Health Whenever you bring a companion canine into your life, you just want your dog to live as long as possible and be as healthy as possible. Unfortunately, far too many purebred dog breeds today have known genetic heritable health issues that have arisen because of too-close breeding to appearance standards for the show ring. This is where hybrid dog breeding does both purebred dog lines and owners a favor. Along with greater genetic diversity comes the renewed possibility of greater longevity and overall health. Golden Retriever longevity and health The Golden Retriever has a typical life span of 10 to 12 years. According to the Canine Health Information Center CHIC database, the Golden Retriever has the following known genetic heritable health issues that parent dogs could potentially pass along to puppies: Eye and cardiac issues. Hip and elbow dysplasia. While at first glance it may seem like Golden Retrievers do not have any particularly worrisome health issues, this is not entirely accurate. Goldens have some of the highest incidences of canine cancer — particularly hemangiosarcoma and lymphoma, in purebred canines today. The Morris Animal Foundation has undertaken to spearhead a Lifetime Study of cancer in Goldens in hopes of reducing the severity and the frequency of cancer in this beloved dog breed. Pug longevity and health The Pug has a typical life span of 13 to 15 years. According to the Canine Health Information Center CHIC database, the Pug dog has the following known genetic heritable health issues that parent dogs could potentially pass along to puppies: Hip and elbow dysplasia. Serum bile acid test tests for defective liver function. Pug dog encephalitis necrotizing meningoencephalitis. Pyruvate kinase deficiency PKD, or canine anemia. Eye issues. Many of these issues now have genetic screening tests that can help breeders sidestep passing on known genetic issues to puppies. But there is one health condition that is encoded into the breed standard itself and that is the short muzzle type the Pug is known for. The shortened or brachycephalic muzzle shape that gives the pug such a cute facial expression is also the source of chronic respiratory and sometimes gastric distress. With a shortened face comes a smaller skull, a crowded jaw and shortened, flattened nostrils and respiratory passages. Pugs can be very susceptible to some degree of BOAS, or Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome, which causes several breathing, overheating, eating, and sleeping issues. The standard practice is to wait until the dog is at least one year old before doing diagnostic testing. However, one perk of hybrid dog breeding programs is that when you cross a short muzzle dog breed like the Pug with a long muzzle dog breed like the Golden Retriever, there is less likelihood that your puppy will inherit any of the more severe BOAS symptoms. By crossbreeding the two purebred dog breeds together, this reduces the risk of both serious health issues in your puppy. The overall span with a Golden Retriever Pug mix is 10 to 15 years. Perhaps you have a Golden Retriever Pug dog mix in your future!

Due to their nature as retrieving dogs with very high energy levels, a Labradoodle requires lots of both physical and mental exercise. Labradoodles are one of the larger breeds of dogs. And as with any bigger dog, when they pull on their leash — you should be ready to hold on. If your dog is really unlucky, this can even lead to damage to its throat. When looking for the perfect harness, the main things to look for are one that fits well, is as comfortable as possible, and can help reduce the pulling behavior from your dog when training or walking with it. And not only will this be very uncomfortable and hurt your dog, but it can also result in increasing the pulling behavior as they will try and do anything they can to get away from the cause of the pain. There is a wide range of options available, from standard body-fitted versions like the Embark to all-around products like the Ruffwear. But in the end, whichever you choose to go for will very much depend on how much you are willing to spend, and which design you prefer. Each harness comes with its own pros and cons which need is something you should consider before making your final decision. Final notes As you probably know as a doodle-owner, they are very adventurous dogs who love jumping in the water or going on large adventures, so pick a harness that will definitely stay on them no matter the situation. You should also keep in mind that Labradoodles grow very fast and will quickly become too large for a lot of harnesses if you choose to get one when your dog is a puppy. You could perhaps consider test-driving a few of the cheaper options before investing in the one you really want when your Labradoodle is fully grown. But as always, do what you think is the best for your dog in terms of wear-ability, comfort, and, most importantly, safety. We hope you found our list of the best Labradoodle harness helpful. Dog Food: Every dog needs to eat correctly, and finding the best food for your dog can be challenging, as the market is absolutely flooded with products. Type of Harness You likely noticed a few different harness types on this list, but do you know which type would be best for your pup? But if your pet is calm on walks, this could fit your needs. A padded harness offers more comfort, as it prevents the harness from digging into the skin. If your pup has anxiety, it might prefer a vest type of harness. This harness fits snugly, is padded, and offers a bit of restriction, which can ease anxiety. That same restriction may turn other canines off this kind of harness, though. Harness Size Once you know the harness you want, your next focus should be getting the correct size. You can also use this handle to make it easier to pick your dog up when needed. Reflective Harnesses Do you often walk your dog in the early morning or twilight hours? This ensures your dog can easily be seen no matter how much light there is, which keeps it and you safer. Some fabrics may be more breathable or softer on the skin than others, while some might be too scratchy or chafe too much. Price Harnesses come in a wide range of prices, so you should find one that fits your budget. And because many harnesses tend to have the same sort of features, you can shop around to find the most affordable one that fits your needs. Fellow dog owners will be able to inform you whether a harness is properly sized and how quickly it might break down. She also has an array of stray cats, raccoons, and possums who like to call her front porch home. In her free time, Misty enjoys chilling with her cats, playing piano, watching indie and foreign films, photographing abandoned places, and catching up on her never-ending TBR list. Some of My Favorite Products For Dog Owners Labradoodle Collar Or Harness Some people just go to the local pet store, and pick the first equipment they spot, not giving much consideration into if they should really get a harness or a collar, but there are actually quite a lot of differences between the two. Purpose of a Harness And a Collar Both a harness and a collar serve the same purpose: when combined with a leash, they allow you to control your dog, and make it impossible for him to escape. Depending on the dog and dog-walkers temperament, there will be quite great forces pulling on the leash, harness, and collar. And that is exactly the most important detail when choosing between a harness and a collar. A study done by Anders Hallgren , a famous Swedish dog psychologist, found that there was a clear connection between neck problems and how you handle a collar. If you yank the leash, or if the dog is a heavy puller, there is a very high risk that the dog will develop neck problems. Since then, there has been a larger focus on numerous other issues that might occur on a dog that is a heavy puller, or if the owner yanks too hard on the leash when walking their dog with a collar. When you pull on the leash, the force is directly applied to the neck where you can find important organs such as the thyroid gland, larynx, trachea, and blood vessels. With a collar, the dog owner has a larger ability to impact the dog, but the cost is an added risk of injuring the dog. The latest studies have shown that the long-term effects of this lead to chronic inflammation of the spine and the thyroid gland. Some are better suited for puppies, and others are better for a dog which pulls a lot. There are 4 types of harness: Step-in harness: tightened around the body in the front in the back. Y-harness: has a focused pull on the chest of the dog. Pulling harness: used for allowing the dog to pull things. Anti-pull harness: a training device to help with proper behavior. Most dog owners will purchase a Y-harness, as they are a great fit on most dogs, and at the same time is a great harness to use for walking every single day. Which Harness Should You Get For A Labradoodle The first thing you should do before ultimately deciding on a specific harness, is go to a pet store and test all of the different products. This will allow you to see how it fits your specific dog, how your dog pulls with it, and how much control you feel you have. Some dog owners even experience their dogs start walking a lot more disciplined just by using a harness instead of a collar, which might be due to the dog no longer actively trying to get away from the undesirable pressure from a collar. But if you still prefer using a collar, I would advise that you at least get a collar that is both with and firm, without a choking mechanism. The collar should cover atleast two cervical vertebra in case the dog will suddenly start pulling. But remember, never yank the leash with a lot of power. Instead you should train it to walk while the leash is loosened, and teach it to come when called, instead of having to pull constantly. Labradoodle Collar or Harness Conclusion As stated, I would highly recommended that you use both a collar and a harness for your Labradoodle. But you should only use the collar for their ID-tag, and the harness is where you then attach the leash before going anywhere. Labs are large and lovable and invariably a big part of the family, and their dog beds tend to be a prominent part of the home. So you will want a dog bed that is perfect for your Labrador, and good for you. A dog bed that looks good and is easy to maintain. Finding your Lab a dog bed that is not just cosy and comfy, but also looks nice too and is built to last, can be a challenge. A good dog bed will be your dog's go-to spot to seek sanctuary and relaxation. It will help them recharge for the next day of fun and be and look inviting too. Ruby relaxing on a black cord dog bed made from a weighty cotton corduroy: To make sure you don't have to buy a new dog bed every year, it is worth considering a dog bed that is designed with longevity in mind. First and foremost will be the suitability of the dog bed for your Lab in terms of shape and size, but you will also want to consider the design, materials, the construction. In terms of dog bed shape and structure, the important thing is to find your Lab a bed that doesn't restrict them and allows them to comfortably adopt any sleep position they want. They will probably most comfortably suit a Hindquarters Large dog bed size, although Ruby is a small Lab and fits a Medium size. And you'll want a shape and structure that supports them whilst asleep. An oval shape echoes the shape of a dog lying flat, and they like to rest against a supportive bolster. Or use it as a chin rest to watch the world go by. The materials a dog bed is made from will influence its comfort level, how easy it is to maintain and its longevity. Your Lab will prefer a soft sleep surface made from natural materials. Thick cotton fabric is comfy to lie on, and can handle the rough and tumble of daily life and machine washing. Corduroy is notoriously comfy plus the chunky ridges make it an easy fabric to brush or hoover clean, even when it comes to slobber and mud. Another advantage of corduroy is that it is warm in winter and cooler in summer, the ridges help trap heat when it is cold and help circulate air when it is warm. Materials play a role in durability so we use thick weighty fabrics and reinforced stitching that will keep Hindquarters dog beds going for years to come. Another durabiilty feature is a water-resistant lining on the inner dog bed. Made from the technical sportswear fabric that's both water-resistant and breathable, this lining will keep the inside of the dog bed fresh. Hindquarters dog beds are generously stuffed with virgin polyester fibres which don't hold moisture or bacteria - so no smells. The central cushion is removable which means it can be regularly turned and the bed easily hoovered. The middle cushion is generously stuffed and the stuffing is secured in place with pin stitches meaning it won't clump, thin or flatten. A large size dog bed with washable denim covers and a removable central cushion: It's good idea to get a dog bed with a removable washable cover. Labradors are known for their adventurous nature and will often bring dirt, moisture and a variety of other things to bed with them. A removable washable cover helps keep things fresh, clean and healthy. Various Labrador builds may require different sized dog beds. Our Large dog beds will suit most Labs although a slight Lab like Ruby, shown languishing in these photos, fits comfortably in a Medium size dog bed. The best way to double check which size dog bed is right for your Lab is to measure them when they are lying down, both curled up and lying flat, to get an accurate picture of how much space they take up and need in order to be comfortable. Your dog's bed will need enough room for them to spread out. Labs love to stretch out after a long day and it's important to provide your dog with all the space they need to get comfortable. Labradors grow up fast and whilst it might be tempting to get them a smaller bed whilst they are a puppy, they will grow out of it quickly. It is a good idea to opt for a Medium or Large size dog bed even if you have a young dog. Hindquarters Medium sized dog beds are suitable for slight Labs and are cm by 75cm including a 20cm bolster which they will rest up against. Our Large dog beds are cm by 80cm including the 20cm bolster. A dog bed in an ovel shape with chunky bolster allows your dog to adopt any sleep position, to curl up cosily or stretch out fully supported. If you have two dogs who like to snuggle together or if you like to curl up with your dog then it'd be sensible to consider a XL dog bed. Percy - half a Lab - on a Large size Hindquarters dog bed with a green corduroy cover: Hindquarters dog beds come in a range of colours. Darker colours will work best for black and brown Labs and lighter colours for yellow Labs. Lounge on it, dream on it, sleep on it. The chewproof guarantee extends a full year. Hips and joints of these strong dogs will benefit from the orthopedic comfort of Kuranda beds throughout their lifetime. For Labs who enjoy swimming, the vinyl weave fabric bed is the perfect place to dry off. Owners of Labrador Retrievers with skin allergies appreciate how easily the beds can be wiped clean. He was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia and we wanted a bed that was "better" for him in regards to comfort with getting up. He fully lays out on this bed and sleeps the entire night on it. After all the money I wasted on them I could have bought him 2 of these. Amazing build quality and durability! I Got aluminum rails with 40oz material and it has lasted amazing. .Great bed, you wont be disappointed. Jeremy Wisconsin Unbelievable I have 5 destructive dogs, all girls, all Labs. My youngest who is 2 years old cannot destroy this bed. I used another brand and she ruined the corners because they were open. This is completely sealed and she can't sink her teeth into them. Love it love it, Love it. Extremely durable for even the toughest dog scratches. Thanks for such a great product. I should have come to you first. I would have saved a lot of money. We recommend:. Tweet on Twitter The first thing many of us want to buy for our new puppy is a bed. There is so much choice when it comes to Labrador puppy beds. Round ones, square ones, squashy ones. Beds lined with faux fur, tartans and checks. Washable, spongeable, hose able, even waterproof beds. Beds with legs, beds with sides, orthopaedic beds, baskets and blankets to put in them. Where do you begin? Perhaps the very first thing we need to consider, is what puppies do to beds. What puppies do to beds Puppies generally, are not kind to their beds. There are some pretty tough fabric beds that will resist modest attempts at chewing. But nothing will stop a really determined puppy from working his teeth through the strongest bed, given the time, and the inclination. Before you dash to your keyboard, to protest that you know of a puppy whose bed was not consigned to the dustbin within a week, I should say, that not all puppies destroy their beds. Some puppies curl up in a tousled heap of puppy gorgeousness surrounded by lovely cushions and soft toys, and never chew a single one. These puppies are rare! Chew toys for puppies Giving your puppy plenty of chew toys may help reduce the risk of your puppy devouring his bed, but most puppies still chew their beds, even if given all the right toys. So it makes sense not to spend too much on a puppy bed to begin with Puppies swallowing bedding Some puppies unfortunately rip up and actually swallow any kind of bedding. Many times, things that puppies swallow just pass through. But swallowing bedding can cause problems for the puppy if the swallowed pieces get trapped in his digestive system. If your puppy is chewing up his bedding, you need to watch him carefully. Most puppies will spit the bits out, but if your puppy swallows them, you need to take the bedding away. If you think he has swallowed quite a lot, phone your vet who will advise you on symptoms to watch out for. Contact your vet urgently if your puppy stops eating, seems unwell, or is unable to empty his bowels. Happily these puppies are quite rare too. Shopping for puppy beds The fact that your puppy will probably damage his first bed, is something you need to consider before you head off to your local pet supermarket, or start browsing the online stores. The less edges the bedding has, the less likely the puppy is to rip it up. And some bedding seems to be less appealing to the puppy to chew. Although these often look the most tempting, on the whole it is best to avoid deeply and loosely padded cushions with lots of stuffing. Or at least to save them for parts of the house where the puppy will be closely supervised. And probably sensible to wait for a few months before purchasing anything too expensive for your puppy to sleep on. Especially when it comes to crate bedding that he is left alone with during the night. There are four types of bedding to consider for your new puppy. Puppies can really snuggle into these. Puppy Blankets You can make your own perfectly serviceable puppy bedding from old towels or blankets, cut or fold to fit your crate. Or you can buy pretty puppy blankets which are soft and easy to clean. If you are using old blankets, it is a good idea to cut these into sections that will fit easily in the washing machine. Old baby blankets are ideal as they are always machine washable and usually tumble dry too. Puppy crate mats Puppy crate mats are specifically designed to fit standard crate sizes. They are reasonably priced and because they fit the crate without stray edges flapping about, they may be less likely to be chewed than blankets or cushions. Crate mats are not too bulky, and fit in the washing machine. You will need two mats, so that you have a replacement ready when one is being washed. Vet bedding for puppies Veterinary bedding makes great puppy bedding. It is made from an artificial fleece fabric. It is washable, tumble dry able, and very hard wearing. It is the ultimate puppy sleeping surface. Vet bed has a stiffish backing, and very large pieces can be awkward to fit in the washing machine. But you can overlap two smaller pieces in a larger crate, and it softens with repeated washing. You can buy vet bed on a roll, or ready cut to fit your crate or basket. Many puppies will have been whelped and raised on vet bed, so your puppy will feel nicely at home. All my puppies and older dogs sleep on vet bed. What about you? There are so many breeds to choose from; how do you know which one is right for you and your family? Boxers are a medium-sized dog that were originally bred to be guard dogs. Nowadays though, they make ideal family pets as long as you can keep up with all that energy! Generally, boxers have three main colors; white, fawn or brindle. Brindle coloring is a combination of two colors that express themselves as a pattern in the fur. Usually one of the colors is beige or brown and the pattern can be long stripes along the back or shorter, more disturbed stripes. Brindle Boxers are one of the most popular coloring there are, however, the colors and patterns of brindle Boxers can vary dramatically. There is, however, a rarer reverse brindle coloring with a dark background and lighter markings. It is sometimes referred to as an inverted brindle boxer. Sealed Brindle Boxer Now this is the rarest coloring for a Boxer out of them all. They appear black because their black stripes are sealed shut so you can see hardly any fawn at all. Some people try to sell these Boxers as having a black coat but that is not true. It is impossible for Boxers to have a true black coat; those that appear black are actually brindle with very thick, close set black stripes. Flashy Brindle Boxer Boxers often have a white underbelly and white feet. Sometimes the markings go up the neck and onto the face too. This is known as flash. However, white Boxers are not. Brindle Boxers are not rare, they are one of the three standard coloring for the Boxer breed. Certain types of markings and coloring are more rare than others though, like the sealed brindle. Brindle Boxers are prone to certain health problems Like all purebred dogs, there are some health conditions that Boxers are more prone to. To help reduce the risk of your puppy developing these conditions you should always buy from an AKC compliant breeder. They have to adhere to much higher standards than most and will undergo the necessary tests of the parent dogs to help reduce the chances of medical issues in the future. AKC registered breeders will usually cost more than private breeders but they come with more peace of mind about the genetics and the treatment of the parent dogs. Also, there are some pet insurance companies that focus on providing the best insurance for a specific breed, meaning they can cater to the likely health problems of that breed of dog. Alternatively, you could look at the American Boxer Club website. They have a specific page all about breeder referrals. There are even some organizations that specifically re-home Boxers! Wherever you go looking, make sure you have a list of questions you want to ask the breeder about how the dogs have been cared for, tests they may have had etc. If you need a hand coming up with all the appropriate questions you should check out this resource. How do you know if a Boxer is the right dog breed for your lifestyle and situation? Well, there are some common characteristics that most Boxers share which can help you get an idea of what they might be like. Life Span Did You Know? The Boxer is one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. It has been recognized by the AKC since .Although the Boxer dog breed originated in Germany, their ancient ancestry can be traced back to the Assyrian empire war dogs of BC. The modern Boxer breed we know and love today was originally developed in Germany in the late s. English-bred Bulldogs and the Bullenbesiier were crossed to create an energetic and agile hunting dog to chase wild game. The Boxer is a popular family companion and a versatile working dog. As a member of the Working Group, Boxers can be found competing in dog sports like agility, obedience, and herding. They also make great service and assistance dogs, as well as therapy dogs, and can be found working as search and rescue dogs, drug detection dogs, police dogs, and military dogs. The Boxer is a muscular and energetic dog that tends to have a happy, friendly disposition. They bond closely with their families and tend to get along well with children and other dogs. They can even do well with other pets despite their high prey drive if they are socialized and trained with them. As long as they are well-socialized, Boxers are generally upbeat, playful, and friendly. Although they have a natural instinct to protect their family from unwanted visitors, they do tend to warm up once introduced and are happy to make a new friend. They can be prone to barking a lot if you do not work on socialization and training your dog to stop barking early on. Boxers can be highly adaptable dogs. Although they have a lot of energy and are better suited to homes with yards where they can run, they can adapt to apartment living as long as they get the daily exercise, attention, and mental stimulation they need. As with any non-arctic dog breed, they are sensitive to very cold temperatures. Boxers are also a brachycephalic breed, which means they are even more sensitive to heat than other dogs. A Boxer is also one of the most affectionate dog breeds. Because they bond so closely with their families and get bored easily, they should not be left alone for long periods of time. Potential health conditions to be aware of in a Boxer include hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy, thyroid issues , and heart conditions like aortic stenosis and cardiomyopathy. Good breeding practices make a big difference and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking the breeder about the health and genetic history of the parents and about any health tests that have been done. Boxers are intelligent dogs that are eager to please their owners. Despite their energetic personality, they are one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners and are highly trainable dogs. They tend to excel at almost any task put before them! Because of their open, friendly nature and high energy, they have a tendency to jump up at people in excitement and playfulness. Since they grow into powerful dogs, you will want to make sure you train your dog not to jump up. Boxers have smooth and short coats that will shed a little year-round and require minimal grooming. A brush-down once or twice a week and the occasional bath as needed will keep their short coat healthy and looking great. Nail trims once or twice a month are usually enough to keep nails from growing too long. Checking ears weekly and carefully cleaning as needed can help prevent ear infections. Checking and wiping their facial wrinkles weekly or a few times a week if your dog is prone to getting into things can help keep their wrinkles clean and free of irritation. Dental diseases, like gum disease, are the most common health issues in older dogs because dental care is often overlooked; and, it can lead to other serious health issues. Brushing daily, plus cleanings at the vet when needed, is ideal. The Boxer is a high-energy dog breed that needs plenty of daily exercise to stay happy and healthy. Due to their high prey drive and urge to chase, they should only be let off-leash in secure areas. Boxers tend to get bored with repetition, are excellent problem solvers, and are naturally exuberant. A fully-grown Boxer usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs pounds. Boxers generally live years on average. In Germany, the Boxer was one of the first dog breeds chosen for police training. Featured Boxer Article.

Starting out with one Labradoodle, we fell in love with the breed and have since then also branched off to breed Goldendoodles and Bernedoodles. Doodles are smart and loyal, affectionate, very entertaining to watch, and not to mention beautiful! Our dogs are members of our family and with the help of local families through our guardianship program we have been able to expand our breeding program further and share the doodle love with others! We make sure that every single one of our dogs is treated as a family member and not kept in a kennel, in our opinion that is no way a dog should live. Our dogs heath, happiness, and well being comes first, and breeding these wonderful animals come second to us. We make sure that all of our doodles complete and pass health testing before they are bred and receive high quality food along with lots of daily love and attention. We now primary breed Goldendoodles but occasionally do have a litter of Labradoodles or Bernedoodles. We also offer stud services to outside breeders. We currently breed, Standard, Medium, Mini size doodles. Here at Dreaming Doodles we do our best to provide you with as much information as possible about your new puppy. Please keep in mind that predicted adult weights are just that, predictions. We estimate the adult weight based on size of the parents, and grandparents of the mother and sire as well as previous litters. Even with that information sometimes we have puppies that exceed or fall under our predictions. Most of our puppies have curly or wavy coats. Coats are usually able to be fully determined before the puppy goes home. If you have allergies we recommend that you do a t-shirt or blanket test before bringing your puppy home. If you suffer from allergies please also keep in mind that all puppies no matter what breed they are will shed their puppy coat out usually between 6 and 18 months of age. The most common ones are: Lack of registration: If a Goldendoodle breeder cannot provide registration papers or other relevant documentation, it may be a sign that they are not operating a reputable breeding program. Overbreeding: Think twice about purchasing from a Goldendoodle breeder who always has puppies available or offers an excessive amount of dog breeds. This may suggest that the breeder is overly focused on profit instead of the health and wellbeing of their puppies. Lack of health checks: A reputable Goldendoodle breeder will conduct health clearances on their breeding dogs to ensure they are free of genetic health issues that could be passed on. If a breeder cannot provide documentation of these health checks, it may be a sign that they are not prioritizing health. Further Reading.

But how can you spot reputable breeders when you start searching for a Pug puppy? Here are some tips to help you out. A good breeder will… 1. Issue a health guarantee Make sure that your breeder of choice offers a health guarantee. A reputable Pug breeder will write up a binding health guarantee for all of their puppies. The guarantee protects you against any genetic defects or diseases. It shows that the breeder is confident that their puppies are bred according to best practices. This means if you can no longer look after your pup for some reason, you will be expected to return the puppy to the breeder rather than taking them to a shelter. Provide standard health clearances Your breeder should have full health clearances for both parent Pugs. Good breeders often provide some early health-check clearances for their pups too, although some health clearances simply cannot be carried on such young pups. Issue a written bill of sale Reputable breeders offer written bills of sale to all of their new Pug parents. This bill of sale should be signed and will outline all the roles and responsibilities to be taken on by the buyer and seller as part of the transaction. Vaccinate their puppies All puppies should be up to date on their vaccinations before being homed with new families. Your breeder of choice should be able to provide evidence of these vaccinations. Reputable breeders welcome prospective parents into their homes to see the puppies. Follow age guidelines Puppies should never leave the litter before 8 weeks of age. Any breeder offering pups for adoption before this time is not following best practices. In fact, this could be quite damaging for the puppy developmentally. A reputable breeder will keep their pups at home until eight to twelve weeks so that they can be properly socialized and spend that crucial time with their mother and litter-mates. Answer your questions Last, but not least, a reputable breeder will be knowledgeable. In most cases, they will also want to ask you plenty of questions to ensure that their precious pups are going to good homes. We have a strict selection process that takes a variety of factors into account. That way we can ensure that only the best breeders end up on our lists. This way we know that our chosen breeders offer genetically sound and healthy puppies. Health testing shows a commitment to the health and wellbeing of each Pug. Contact information Any breeder that does not offer up their contact information is a big red flag. A reputable breeder will make it easy for you to get in contact with them by providing telephone numbers, email addresses, and they will usually have a well-established website as well. It shows a commitment to breeding best practices. Event participation Breeders who also compete in doggie events are often some of the best. Because these people tend to be dog lovers par excellence. They live and breathe for their Pugs and are proud to show them off in public. They are also more likely to have a high level of breed knowledge — an excellent sign for a breeder. Breed club membership There are lots of breed clubs out there that breeders can register with. These clubs have rules, regulations, and membership fees. If your breeder is registered with the Pug Dog Club of America, this is a great sign showing commitment to the Pug breed. Recognition awards Lastly, we look out for awards! Institutions like the AKC recognize the efforts and achievements of top breeders. The very best will be awarded the AKC recognition of merit award. During this time we recommend getting everything ready before your new arrival rattles through the front door. Your puppy will need: a crate for sleeping and training during the early days quality puppy-grade food a leash and harness plenty of toys You may also wish to purchase a puppy gate if there are areas of your home that you want to keep your Pug away from. This is all about making your home as safe as possible for your new arrival. Make sure anything that could potentially cause harm to your pup is removed. Clear your schedule Having a Pug puppy is a bit like having a human baby. So make sure to clear your schedule and get all of those errands done ahead of time! Once they arrive… 4. Avoid crowds Hold your excitement. That means no crowds. Try to keep the home environment as stress-free as possible so that your puppy can settle in and start to feel part of the family. Crate training is the first step. Lay down a regular routine from the get to and your Pug will be good as gold in no time. Questions about Pug puppies for sale in Atlanta GA? We have answers.
