Daisy and Brock are a beautiful mother and son pair who love to snuggle together and cuddle. They are both sweet, happy, and friendly. They adore getting attention from anyone they meet during their walks and easily draw people in with their sunny personalities and soft silky coats. They have settled into an easy routine in their foster home and relish their walks every day and visits to the dog park. During their walks Brock clocks roughly twice the mileage of foster mom and Daisy with his side-to-side walking style. Neither is true! These pups love to live it up at the dog park where they show off their speed as Brock sprints and dives after his Kong frisbee, often grabbing it taco style, while Daisy relishes fetching an orange Chuck-It ball before eventually resting to chew on it. Brock is also a master at tug-of-war who has learned to drop it sometimes after repeated requests so it can be thrown again. Brock is extra special because he was born without a tail, which causes him to be incontinent. Inside the house he wears diapers and a belly band, and his incontinence is easily managed. Allergies, pain, corneal ulcers, etc. Treatment or epiphora will depend on the diagnosis from your veterinarian. Dry eye is caused by distemper, injury, or auto-immune diseases. The eye boogers associated with dry are thick and sticky mucous. The eye is unable to produce enough tears and compensates by producing extra mucous. Dry eye is very uncomfortable for your Germans Shepherd, as you can imagine. They will have red, scratchy, and painful eyes and are at risk for developing infection and corneal ulcers. Your German Shepherd will probably be quite miserable if they have dry eye. Take them to the veterinarian for treatment. Of course, it is not the only ocular disease that can affect your dog, but German Shepherds are genetically predisposed to suffer from this degenerative condition. Pannus affects both eyes, but not to the same degree. The mass will spread over the cornea, becoming darker, and sight will eventually be impaired. Mucous eye boogers can accompany the development of the mass. Pannus is not curable, but it can be treated to halt the progression. If your German Shepherd is diagnosed with pannus, they will have to be put onto chronic corticosteroids which comes with its own issues. You will also probably have to get your dog a pair of sunglasses as UV light facilitates the progression of this disease. Alternatively, you can use a cotton pad not cottonwool as it is too fibrous or a clean, soft cloth soaked in warm water. Gently wipe away from the eye. Use a new cotton pad or fabric for each eye as one can be infected and the other not, so the infection could spread if you use the same cloth or pad. We ended up taking Claude to puppy socialisation classes which let him learn how to behave when being walked, despite the presence of other hyperactive puppies and people. We learned that whilst French Bulldogs will sleep for 12 hours a day you can see the sleeping schedule in the graphic below , when they are awake they need lot of activity. French Bulldogs are high energy when they are awake so make the most of the time in the day when they will be sleeping — which is a lot as you can see here. We take Claude for two walks a day; one in the morning and one in the afternoon for around 25 to 30 minutes each time. My son also has a laser pen and plays with Claude in the kitchen with that to further wear him out. By doing so, our Frenchie is still hyper, but at the right moments and in the right way.
