I also need to say that many ears will be a little weak right after taping but with time, they will strengthen. So when an ear does not stand perfectly after taping don't panic. Just have patience and see what happens. You will really not have an idea exactly what you have until the pup is 12 months old. When ears do not stand, there are ear implants that can be surgically added. I have no experience with this and do not know anything about them. If you are unlucky enough to have a dog whose ears will not stand, I would point you toward a vet that has some experience in this area. Who knew there could be so many areas to cover?! Which means they have the same ancestry, and a lot of shared history. In fact from the inception of the Labrador breed in the early s, all the way through to the s, black Labs were much more desirable. Chocolate Lab puppies or liver puppies as they were known at the time were frequently culled at birth. Which seems shocking to the modern dog lover! Then in the midth century, chocolate Labs started to appear in field trials and at dog shows, and gradually their star began to rise. These days, both colors are popular as working dogs, show dogs, and cherished family pets. However, the number of new black Lab puppies registered every year is still consistently much higher than the number of chocolate Lab puppies. Chocolate Lab vs Black Lab Fun Facts Black and chocolate Labradors both have the potential to become accomplished working dogs — either in the field , as search and rescue dogs, service dogs , military dogs, police dogs or narcotics dogs. Genetically, it is more likely for a Lab to be black than chocolate, because the gene for a black coat will always mask the gene for a brown coat if it is present. Generation after generation of black dogs can continue to have only black puppies if dogs with the Bb gene are only ever mated to dogs with BB genes. Now, they are still a popular choice for service, guide, and therapy dogs and are also a popular companion dog. Labrador Retrievers and Poodles are both friendly, gentle, intelligent, and affectionate dog breeds. The Labradoodle tends to be similar. They are open and friendly and crave human attention and affection. They are happiest when they are with people. Labradoodles also tend to have an energetic and playful personality. They get along well with children, other dogs, other pets, and strangers. They are alert enough to bark or let you know when someone is at the door, but they are not generally good watchdogs or guard dogs as they are more interested in making friends. A Labradoodle is a highly adaptable dog breed. They do very well in homes with space to run and they can adapt well to apartment living as long as they are given plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. They also do well in most climates. As with any dog breed, they are sensitive to extreme heat and cold. Because they enjoy being around people, they do not generally like to be left alone for long periods of time. They can also become bored if not given enough attention, exercise, or mental stimulation, which can result in destructive behavior. While the Australian Labradoodle is not considered an AKC recognized breed, we do have a breed standard that conscientious breeders work towards. We have elected to keep our stud books open which means we allow for the development of new lines using registered Labradors, Poodles and Cocker Spaniels in an effort to expand our gene pool and keep inbreeding to a minimum. These new lines are then bred into existing lines that date back to the founding dogs from Australia. This of course is an option for breeders and there are many who are only working with descendants of the dogs from Australia while others have dogs that are a combination of old and new lines. It is our breed standard and our pedigree database that dictates the breed development and breeders choose pairings to improve temperament, coat and structure working within the guidelines set out by the ALAA. The ALAA has made extensive efforts to track and verify the pedigrees of our registered dogs, therefore, an ALAA verified pedigree is the only true identifier of an Australian Labradoodle. Coats and conformation are not stable. First generations are likely to shed. They can have the personality of a poodle, lab or both. When the lines are carefully chosen their temperament can be just as wonderful as an Australian Labradoodle. All Labradoodles are NOT non-shedding or hypoallergenic. It is very important that you do your homework and know what it is you are looking for and what you are getting. Ask about the parent's testing, their pedigree, their temperaments. As a breeder, it takes a great deal of time, patience, and money to raise healthy, happy labradoodles with wonderful temperaments which is then passed down to the puppies that will go on to be your much loved family pet. General Appearance: The Australian Labradoodle will have an athletic and graceful, yet, compact body. They should not appear heavy or overly fine. A distinctive feature of this breed is their coat, which is non-shedding and easy to manage. Movement: Trotting gait is effortless, smooth, powerful, and coordinated in mature dogs. Sound free movement and a light gait are vital. The sizes are measured to the withers top of the shoulder blades. Soundness is very important. Weight range tends to be 15 to 25 pounds. Medium 17" TO 20": The "Ideal" size for a medium female is 17 to 19 inches and for a male 19 to 20 inches. Weight range tends to be 30 to 45 pounds. Standard: 21" TO 24": The "Ideal" size for a standard female is 21 to 23 inches and for a male 22 to 24 inches. Weight range tends to be 50 to 65 pounds. The following are the three kinds of coats all Labradoodles have: COATS: Coat types are also still very sporadic with many dogs showing a combination of multiple types. Both the Fleece and the Wool coat should naturally grow in "staples" and be of a soft texture. Both the "Ideal" Fleece and Wool coats spin successfully. It comes in many styles, straight open fleece, wavy fleece, to spiral fleece. This coat is easy to maintain, but must be brushed in order to remain mat-free. There should be no body odor with this coat and very little to NO shedding. WOOL: These coats are denser to the feel more like a sheep's wool. The sprung wool coat is not preferred. To keep the wool coat long and flowing will require more maintenance. If this coat is kept short, it is very easy to maintain, but also requires regular grooming to avoids matting. There is no body odor with this coat. HAIR: Hair textures shed and are unwanted. There will be some shedding with this coat, although it could be minor shedding. This is not a coat for anyone with allergies or asthma. Black noses will have black lips and dark eyes. They can come in varying shades and may fade as the dog gets older Black: Dark and rich, black, they maintain this color their entire life - black nose Blue: Blue dogs are born black but will have blue skin and undertones at a young age -black nose. Blue also belongs to the Rare Color Group. Silver: Born black but will have more of a gray skin and will develop individual silver fibers at a young age- black nose. Silver dogs can take up to 3 years to color out. Uneven layering of color in the silver is normal. Chocolate: Dark and rich, born almost Black, they maintain a dark chocolate their entire life - brown nose. Chocolate belongs to the Rare Color Group. Cafe': Born Milk Chocolate of varying shades, and have the same dilute gene as the silver dogs, often taking up to 3 years to fully color out to multi shades of chocolate, silvery chocolate and silver throughout - brown nose, they also develop stunning highlights. Parchment: Born Milk Chocolate, will pale to a smoky creamy beige. Paling usually starts from an early age often as early as 6 weeks - brown noses. Parchment belongs to the Rare Color Group. Labradoodles Litters For Sale. This is usually followed by muttering that the pedigree is unimportant anyway since the puppies are crossbred and cannot be registered with the Kennel Club anyway. Unfortunately, many puppy buyers are too trusting and believe what they are told, or simply are not aware of the ramifications of having a dog with unknown ancestry. If the puppies are truly Labradoodles, the breeder will be able to prove this by producing their pedigree. If they cannot produce their pedigree, then you must question if they are Labradoodles and why the pedigree is not available. Where do the pedigrees come from? When a Labrador is bred with a Poodle stud, a litter of first generation Labradoodles is born. The Labrador and Poodle are purebred, Kennel Club registered dogs with pedigrees. One of these Labradoodle puppies grows up and is later bred with another Labradoodle. The resulting puppies are second generation Labradoodles. There will be two generations of Labradoodles with Labradors and Poodles behind that in the generations further back. Our Australian Labradoodles have six different parent breeds, so their pedigrees are formed in exactly the same way, but with up to six different breeds in there over many, many generations. Why is the pedigree important? The pedigree is important because it shows the ancestry and serves as proof that the dog is or is not inbred. Without having a pedigree, you have no proof or evidence that the dog is not a result of breeding two closely-related dogs together. This is important because inbred dogs are more likely to genetically inherit health conditions. If you want to avoid these health conditions, you need to see the pedigree. Is health testing a substitute for a pedigree? In one short word — NO! Absolutely no amount of health testing is a substitute for a pedigree. There are many, many more health conditions out there than there are tests available. A low coefficient of inbreeding is much more beneficial than health testing — you can read why by clicking here. The most effective way to reduce the risk of buying a puppy that will suffer from genetically inherited health conditions is to buy a puppy with a pedigree so that you can see for yourself that inbreeding has not taken place. Breeding a Labradoodle with a Labradoodle, a Labradoodle with a Poodle or a Labradoodle with a Labrador without having the pedigrees for both parents is irresponsible.
