I like to encourage readers of this blog to try new recipes that have worked well for me and made my family happy. However, I also enjoy exploring the link between food and art. I recognize that some of my cupcake recipes are probably not the most practical for those of you at home to try out, but are fun to read about nonetheless. In exploring the link between food and art, I previously did a series of pop art cupcakes where I replicated different modern art paintings by putting them into cupcake designs. Over the weekend, I had a couple extra s'mores cupcakes from my most recent cupcake recipe, and decided to create a couple of one-off cupcakes that personified an important member of my family -- my dog, Dakota. I have a pug , and I absolutely adore the breed. Between the snorting, affectionate but playful antics, and the cute wrinkly faces and compact bodies, I think pugs are one of the greatest breeds of dogs on the planet. Mine is sweet and spunky and an integral part of our family. Her second birthday is coming up in April, so in honor of that, and in the spirit of creativity, I decided create pug puppy cupcakes -- which I refer to affectionately as "pupcakes. I have not made my own fondant -- yet it's a matter of time, really. However, I have a series of cupcake projects planned that require large amounts of different colored fondant that are probably going to necessitate making it myself to get the colors right. The package came with fondant in two shades of brown, black and a peach fleshy color. These are the perfect colors for making pugs! I think that my pupcakes personify what I love best about pugs - that sweet wrinkly face, the big eyes and so much dog in such a small package. Tweet Pin Kilo the Pug and I share a love of food. So what better way to celebrate his birthday than with homemade dog cupcakes from our Dog Licks Recipe Series. We started with one that looks like a pug of course. Talk about a Cupcake selfie or a Pugcake. These are easy Cupcakes for dogs and humans. Directions Preheat the oven to f or c; Lay out cups in baking tin Cream butter and sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Add flour mixed with baking powder and salt alternating with milk. Beat well until smooth. Divide evenly among cups and bake for minutes or until a light golden colour on top. The smaller ones cooked faster so you could take them out early. Let cool in pans. Decorating Roll out fondant 2 cm thick. Cut out 1 heart shape, 2 teardrop shapes, and 1 large circle from the fondant. Set aside. Frost one side of the heart and lay upside down on the bottom half of the face. Lightly spread some carob paste onto the ears and the muzzle. Stick on two blueberries for eyes and one for the nose using peanut butter. Cut a small tongue using half a strawberry and place on the cupcake using peanut butter. We love Pugs and Kilo sure loved his Pug Cake on his birthday. Because they are sensitive and in-tune with their owners, they respond best to consistent, positive training techniques focused on rewards and praise. Poodle coats are curly or corded and come in a wide variety of colors. Although Poodles are known for their low-shedding, hypoallergenic coats, their coats still require a lot of maintenance. Keeping your Poodle in a short clip can help reduce daily maintenance, but still requires regular professional grooming every four to six weeks to maintain it. A longer coat requires daily brushing in order to prevent matting in addition to professional grooming every four to six weeks. Regular professional grooming often helps with this as nail trimming should be done monthly, at least, to keep nails from growing too long. Dental care for dogs , like brushing their teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day, is essential to protecting them from painful dental diseases like gum disease and tooth decay. You, your dog, and your groomer will thank you for it! Who knows? If you ensure these experiences stay positive, they could even become a bonding time that your dog enjoys. These are high energy dogs that require a good amount of exercise and mental stimulation every day in order to be happy and healthy. They love to stay busy and may enjoy running with you, going for a swim, taking trips to the dog park , hiking with you, and more. They also tend to be a good fit for several dog sports, such as agility, dock diving, obedience, flyball, tracking, and more. A fully-grown Standard Poodle usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between pounds. They can be slightly smaller than the usual as the Standard size is denoted by being more than 15 inches tall at the shoulder. A Standard Poodle generally lives years. However, that type of coat is not accepted in the show ring. This breed sheds little to no hair. Training Highly trainable and eager to please, the Poodle requires early socialization and obedience training. With their sensitive nature they do not respond to harsh or heavy-handed methods. The Poodle does best with fairness, firmness, respect, patience, and consistency. They excel at learning tricks, including agility, retrieving, and competitive obedience. Activity The Poodle enjoys swimming, family play sessions, and securely leashed walks. They greatly benefit from regular opportunities to romp and run off lead in a safe area. Poodles will do okay in an apartment or condominium dwelling provided they are sufficiently exercised and stimulated to help curtail their tendency to excessively bark, and to keep them physically fit.
