Because they are bred to have the coat qualities of a Poodle, these pups are a popular option for owners looking to adopt a hypoallergenic dog. Their curly coat should be soft to the touch. The signature coat of pretty curls is one of the places where the Poodle ancestry truly shines through. To keep the coat looking its most beautiful, make sure to brush it two to four times per week. Not only is brushing a nice bonding experience for the pup and their person, but it also prevents tangling and matting. Owners can maintain a healthy Goldendoodle coat by bathing them every other month. Meet Mini Goldendoodles for Sale. Mini Goldendoodles are highly intelligent, and loyal companions, their affectionate and gentle nature makes them some of the finest therapy dogs. When these pups grow up, they have moderate energy levels and love long walks and spending time with their family. Goldendoodle puppies shed very little and make an excellent choice for those with allergies. If you Googled this term and ended up here, you already know how popular this pup is. The adorable mix of Miniature Poodle and Golden Retriever offers countless positive traits that make these dogs ideal for first-time owners, the elderly, and parents with young children. Goldendoodle Mini puppies are a good breed for anyone looking for a medium to smaller-sized pet to add to their household. These dogs are affectionate, intelligent, caring, and low-shedding companions. Many people also love the Goldendoodle puppy because of their soft fur and willingness to cuddle. Before searching for "Mini Goldendoodles near me," it's important that you make sure it's a good match. As always, practicing responsible dog ownership is crucial before committing to a Mini Goldendoodle for sale. Let's examine the Mini Goldendoodle's characteristics, behaviors, training, and grooming requirements to determine whether this is the right dog for you. Characteristics The standard lifespan of a Mini Goldendoodle ranges from twelve to sixteen years. The popularity of this breed stems not only from its low-shedding characteristics translation: low-maintenance and less vacuuming! These dogs are typically a lovely golden blond and it's not uncommon to find streaks of white on the head and chest. You can find a Mini Goldendoodle for sale in darker colors as well, like caramel, dark brown, and black. Incredibly cute and always friendly, a Mini Goldendoodle is an excellent choice for any household. Activity Level Looking for mini doodles for sale will mean committing to a moderately active lifestyle. Don't let this dog's small size fool you — it will follow your every move! If you purchase a Mini Goldendoodle for sale, you will have a constant companion that loves to play fetch, be chased, or just run when those zoomies hit. Expect to dedicate at least an hour of exercise for this dog daily. Since their breeding originates from two water dog breeds, Mini Goldendoodles enjoy the water, so taking them to the pool, lake, or beach will always be a hit. Disposition Opting for Mini Goldendoodles for sale is the perfect choice if you're looking for a sweet, mild-mannered, social pup. These dogs are people-oriented, love attention, and seek a lot of interaction from their owners. Get ready for lots of cuddling — they'll do anything for a belly rub! Miniature Goldendoodles are also great additions to homes that already have pets. These dogs love the companionship of other dogs as much as humans. When properly socialized from a young age, Mini Goldendoodles can even be taught to get along with cats! Training Miniature Goldendoodles are highly trainable thanks to their intelligence and desire to please. It is not uncommon for them to master new commands in just a few sessions assuming you have enough treats on hand. The main challenge of training these dogs is that they are high-energy, easily excitable, and struggle to focus for long. Maintaining short training sessions will help your dog to reach its full potential. Positive reinforcement training is by far the most effective training method for ensuring your dog is disciplined and well-behaved. Grooming Requirements As a poodle mix, this breed requires a little more hair care than most other dogs. While they're famous for low-shedding, that doesn't mean their coat doesn't need maintenance. Regularly brushing your pup's curls is essential for preventing their fur from becoming tangled and matted. It's best to brush your dog at least three times per week using a metal pin brush. The Mini Goldendoodle also has fast-growing fur. For this reason, consider taking the dog to a professional groomer every two to three months. The work of a professional also makes home grooming far less taxing. These dogs tend not to have that distinct "doggy odor" native to other breeds. However, just because your Mini Goldendoodle doesn't smell doesn't mean it doesn't need a bath. You should still regularly bathe your dog to avoid bacteria buildup and infections, and don't forget to check those ears. Why Pawrade? Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. About Our Miniature Goldendoodles Our Miniature Goldendoodles are an exceptional hybrid breed, resulting from a purebred Golden Retriever and a miniature poodle cross. At maturity, they typically average 25 lbs. Our mini puppies embody the best characteristics of their parent breeds, including the amiable temperament of the Golden Retriever and the intelligence and low-shedding coat of the miniature poodle, making them ideal allergy-friendly pets. While our puppies are generally low shedding, some shedding may occur when the puppy coat transitions into the adult coat. Our female, Paislee, has abstract pups. Our puppies are wormed at weeks 4, 5, and 6 and receive their first puppy vaccine at 6 weeks. Before leaving our possession, each puppy undergoes a veterinary check to ensure their health. If any issues are detected, we will assist you in moving your deposit to another litter, if you choose to do so. If you wish to purchase a puppy for the purpose of breeding multiple litters, the cost is double the pet price. Our Happy Clients Our puppies have found loving homes all across the country. This recessive gene dilutes any black pigment on the dog including coat color, nose leather, foot pads, toe nails, lips, etc. It also affects their eye color. Blue pups have a beautiful light gray coat as babies, as they age however is usually darkens up quite a bit, the ones that darken up are called "steel" blues. To the untrained eye, they can be mistaken for regular blacks. There is also "Powder" blues, they tend to lighten up in color and always stay a very noticeable gray color. Powder blues are not seen very often. A blue pup with sable markings We have a couple blues and a few dogs who carry the blue gene. We choose these dogs first and foremost because their temperament, structure and health aligns with the goals of our breeding program. A beautiful unique color is just icing on the cake of an already exceptional dog. Our non-traditional color lines have some of the highest hip ratings in the US! We have produced non-traditional colored GSDs that compete in obedience, agility, nose work, etc. I personally love the non-traditional colored German Shepherds. These colors are been in the breed since the beginning and our foundation girl Rose just happened to be a blue! Most of the questions are probably regarding the colors, so let me answer them. We will also touch on size, weight, some distinguishing characteristics, and why you should or should not own one. The difference is that one of the parents of a blue German shepherd had the recessive gene that caused the pigment responsible for the black color to be diluted into a lighter color. A blue German shepherd is actually gray with a bluish hue, but the eyes are piercingly light-blue. Blue German shepherd puppies are easy to spot among other colors, but the coat can drastically change once they are adults. However, there are older lines that are closer to the original German shepherd, like the working line used during the Second World War, that have slightly shorter coats and a straight back but retain the undercoat. These are more often associated with blue coat color simply because they have been selectively bred to preserve some of the traits. However, there are also show lines that produce blue puppies every blue moon. Read our article on all of the GSD colors you can imagine. The German shepherd male is usually twenty-four to twenty-six inches tall, reaching weights between sixty-five and ninety pounds. Females are slightly smaller at twenty-two to twenty-four inches tall and weigh fifty to seventy pounds. I think the most valuable trait of the blue GSD is the thrill of looking for it. They are extremely rare and thus valued as a gem among breeders. They usually cost a ton of money, and the stars have to align for you to find them at the exact moment you are looking for a dog. If you are looking for a dog that can perform almost any task given to it but want to avoid dogs with heart problems like the Great Dane or Doberman, your best bet is a blue GSD. They will outlive most other dogs in this category while looking like a million bucks. Conclusion Anyone who is feeling lucky should immediately check the websites of these blue German shepherd breeders. Finding a litter of standard colors or patterns is hard enough, let alone an unpredictable blue GSD puppy. The exclusivity of the blue GSD is fertile soil for scammers. Avoid websites that provide no photos, guarantees, references, or information other than the price and contact. The same goes for puppy mills. Do your research, and you will be safe. In this case, I did the research so you could enjoy the process of selection. When you are considering where to find blue-eyed German shepherd puppies for sale, you will want to consider your budget. Make sure your home is safe for your puppy. The puppy needs to interact with different dogs and humans every day and early. In case you have any questions regarding our German Shepherd puppies, or any questions regarding dogs generally, please get in touch with us. Puppies can be reserved beforehand. The puppy should be adequately socialized so it can easily come to be part of your loved ones. German Shepherd puppies for sale can be found on the web. The German Shepherd Dog is the most commonly recognized dog breed on earth. Some white dogs have a small bit of cream or little patches of tan. Although generally speaking you should examine the white German Shepherd dog as having the same health problems as GSDs generally speaking, there are a couple of hints that there might be a difference. But what do you know about German Shepherds? They are great companions to children and also ideal as watchdogs, and some even can detect explosives. You can always train your dog to fetch. He loves it when he has to go outside and fetch the ball. This can be quite stressful, but because of his short attention span and occasional laziness, you can make it fun. Then, with only a few minutes of training, you can teach him what to do when you throw the ball to him. You should get an older puppy from a breeder that is at least nine months old. During the breeding process, male and female dogs are put together so they could produce offspring to be bred. It is quite possible to find the puppies in crates in these shops. Make sure that they are kept as warm as possible during shipping so that they would be comfortable in the crate. If you are purchasing from a shoe shop, ask them how long they plan to store the puppy. The crate will make them feel safer as well as make them less stressed in the traveling process. Always remember to keep the puppy in the crate with you while traveling. However, if you want to travel with your puppy, please be aware that all animal laws vary from state to state and country to country. Never leave your puppy alone in the car, because you could easily fall asleep with them in the backseat. If you want to take your puppy with you, always bring a crate along to ensure that your puppy will be safe in your vehicle. Pups for sale usually arrive at the showroom on the same day. Just give them a warm bath and feed them. This should take only about an hour or two depending on how busy the showroom is. Then, the puppy should be outfitted with an identification collar and harness and will be ready to go out on the show floor in no time! Finding blue-eyed German shepherd puppies for sale is much easier now than it was in the past. That is because the market has become more competitive and that means that people are looking for more dogs. There are many breeds of dogs to choose from, but blue-eyed German shepherd puppies for sale are certainly no exception. Here are some tips on how to find your new dog. This may seem obvious, but if you are going to get a dog you want to be sure that it is going to be a long-term pet. Dogs also require a lot of exercise and time. A house pet is usually very adaptable to new situations. If you give a dog room to run around it can make a big difference in the way that he or she gets along with other animals in the household. Other dogs may need to be crate trained, so you will want to try to find a dog that can do this easily. It may take a while to teach a dog to just roll over and lie down to take a nap in a crate, but dogs need this to relax and they will thank you for taking the time to train them. A dog that is willing to sleep anywhere is a great choice. A great place to find adorable dogs is online. Many people like to find out about things before buying a puppy and that can save them a lot of money. Some great websites have blue-eyed German shepherd puppies for sale at reasonable prices. This is a wonderful idea for people who are just starting to breed dogs. You will be able to see what dogs are available and decide if you want to buy one. Some of these places have nice puppies and they might be exactly what you are looking for. In addition, you may be able to see if you like the particular dog and if you think it would be a good pet for you. Sometimes you will have to sacrifice the first puppy that you get, but that is okay because there are plenty of others waiting to be taken care of. A good idea is to check out all of the local shelters, as well as the dog supply stores and pet shops. You will find that your options for a blue-eyed German shepherd puppy are quite varied. The number of puppies available may be limited, but you should be able to find much more than what you are seeing in ads. Most likely, there is a breeder or rescue group that will help you find the perfect pup for you. If you are looking for a blue-eyed German shepherd puppy, the best place to look is online. You will have a better chance of finding the right dog for you if you try to go the route of online research rather than look at a store to see if the dog you are looking for is there. Share this:.

What is Elbow Dysplasia? The condition eventually causes pain whenever the forelimb is moved and may eventually cause arthritis. Trauma to the elbow joint can also lead to changes within the elbow that mimic elbow dysplasia, but this disease results from genetic factors that cause abnormalities in joint formation, not trauma. Symptoms of Elbow Dysplasia: Dogs who have elbow dysplasia may show signs of the disease by suffering from mild to moderate pain and lameness in their forelimbs as early as four months old or they may not have any symptoms until later in their life. Even though the disease can manifest at any age, it is commonly diagnosed when dogs are around two years old. Dog owners frequently take the dog to the vet complaining of stiffness in the front legs but both elbow joints are usually affected. How soon a dog will show symptoms is related to how severe the abnormality in the joint is. Dogs eventually develop arthritis inflammation in the joint from years of the parts of the joint rubbing against each other. On physical examination the vet may find pain when the elbow is manipulated. There may also be swelling, crepitus a crunching noise and a decrease in the range of motion the dog has. There are different types of elbow dysplasia and the vet may order a CT scan to identify which type of elbow dysplasia the dog has. In addition, arthroscopy surgery or open joint surgery is considered the best way to determine the extent of the damage in the joint. If arthritis has already set in it is more difficult to know how beneficial this surgery will be. Arthroscopic surgery surgically inserting a scope -is considered the best option for cases that are good candidates for surgical intervention. Open joint surgery — may also be the best option for some cases. Board-certified veterinary surgeons are advisable for the surgical diagnosis and treatment of all forms of elbow dysplasia. Elbow replacement surgery — is currently being researched, but still unavailable. Non-Surgical Options: We can manage pain by treating dogs with pain relieving drugs and glucosamine and fatty acid supplements. However, due to the discomfort and debilitation a dog suffers from this disease, some dogs may have increased lameness and even a decreased lifespan. Prevention: The best way to prevent elbow dysplasia is to prevent it from occurring by not breeding dogs can pass it to future generations. If you notice your puppy is limping, it could be because of a: Bone break or fracture Muscle strain, pull or tear A slipped disc A torn or damaged ligament A cut or laceration on a paw or base of the leg Any of the above injuries or body damage could be caused by rough play, falling or landing awkwardly, poor genetic, or just general day to day activity. Higher energy puppies or puppies that engage in a lot of physical activity could be more at risk. With something particularly painful like a broken bone or deep laceration, the limping could have an immediate onset. You have to remember with puppies that they are still developing physically and growing. Particularly in large dogs, if they grow too quickly, they may develop injuries more frequently. A side effect of arthritis can be lameness in a leg — which can cause limping. Arthritis in dogs can occur over time with natural wear and tear, as a result of injuries, or as a result of a disease like hip dysplasia for example. This is why you should always check the official OFA hip and elbow certification of your puppy and their parents before you buy — and get a guarantee on the health of the pup against latent defects developing. With hip and elbow dysplasia, a malformation in the joint leads to deterioration of the cartilage according to assisianimalhealth. There are also other infectious diseases, and cruciate ligament disease, neuromuscular disease, and cancers which can cause limping. The best person to let you know which legs on your GSD are affected by a cause of limping is your vet. As in with humans, a dog might have a chronic disease like arthritis for example. The joints may deteriorate and the dog might develop a limp, but the leg may simply become lame with little or no pain. More German Shepherd Limping Resources 1. Your dog may walk slowly or awkwardly, and he will generally favor one leg over the other. There are two types of limping that your German Shepherd may experience. Some forms occur gradually over time, whereas sudden lameness happens instantly, usually after an injury. Some cases are minor and can be managed at home, while others will necessitate the assistance of a medical professional. Too much of a good thing such as fetch, frisbee, intense running, or rough play with other dogs can leave your German Shepherd sore and hobbling with a muscle strain. Most dogs, though, will recover quickly after a few days of rest. Wounds on the footpads. Look out for your GSD incessantly licking his paw. Burns caused by hot sidewalks or frostbite can also cause your dog to limp. In extreme weather, hot or cold, get your GSD some booties or paw protectors. A thorn or stone stuck in the pads. Again carefully check the pads for a thorn or small stone that may have lodged between the paw pads. Remember to keep the fur around the pads and toes trim to enable you to examine the paws easier, especially as some dogs find this area quite sensitive. Toenail injuries. Examine your German Shepherd for ingrowing or overgrown toenails , as these can cause discomfort and pain if they dig into the skin. My GSD once had a dewclaw injury that required surgical removal, so make sure you also keep these trim. An insect sting or animal bite. Stings and bites can cause limping. Your GSD may raise his paw if stung by a wasp or bee. Bites from other animals can result in injury and infection. Fracture or dislocation. If the limping began suddenly, a fractured leg or a dislocated bone should be suspected. A shattered bone will prevent your dog from bearing any weight. A sprain occurs when a ligament or tendon is strained or torn. Something as simple as leaping off the couch and landing awkwardly can cause it. Your German Shepherd will be reluctant to put any weight on his leg or paw. Hip and elbow dysplasia. Dysplasia is a common hereditary condition in German Shepherds that causes hip and elbow joints to become loose and shift out of position. Sadly, .This persistent, painful condition is more common in older and larger canines. As a result of cartilage deterioration, it causes joint inflammation. Lameness, stiffness, or trouble getting up are all symptoms. Cruciate ligament injury or disease. This occurs when one or both of the cruciate ligaments that hold the knee together are damaged. Limping is the most common symptom of a cruciate injury, and it can be caused by turning awkwardly, jumping, or twisting. It can happen all of a sudden or gradually. Luxating patella dislocated knee. It is common in smaller breeds, but German Shepherds are one of the larger breeds prone to developing luxating patellas. Your dog may be in pain and reluctant to bear weight on the affected limb. An infection of the leg or paw can cause your dog to hobble. He may lick and chew the site and may need a course of antibiotics. Also, to prevent further inflammation, your GSD may be advised to wear the dreaded cone of shame Elizabethan collar. Lyme disease. This bacterial infection spread by ticks can result in intermittent lameness. Degenerative Myelopathy. This genetic condition affects the spinal cord, leading to eventual paralysis of the back end in older dogs. Weakness, lameness in the rear legs, and incontinence are all symptoms. Panosteitis Wandering Lameness or Growing Pains. Panosteitis is a condition affecting the long bones of the legs due to severe inflammation. It can affect growing large breed pups, aged months, including the GSD. It caused a shifting lameness from one bone to another and can occur over several weeks or months. Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy HOD. Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy is a bone disease occurring in quick-growing large dogs, usually between the 3 and 5 months stage. The German Shepherd is one of the breeds prone. Signs will be a slight limp and pain in the affected bone. Osteochondritis Dissecans OCD. OCD is a disease of the cartilage whereby inflammation causes it to separate from the bone. The shoulder is the most usually affected area; however, the elbow, hip, and knee can also be impacted. It occurs when large puppies develop too quickly. Symptoms include limping, lameness, and pain. German Shepherds are predisposed to OCD; however, the offending gene has not been identified. Hind limb weakness, paralysis, or urinary incontinence are symptoms of this spinal disease. It is caused by intervertebral disk degeneration and protrusion, which compresses the spinal cord. Dog breeds having a short, stout appearance are most commonly affected. Lumbosacral Foraminal Stenosis. A degenerative condition of the lower spine resembling sciatica or a slipped disc in humans. The subsequent narrowing can cause nerve compression resulting in lameness. It occurs in medium-large breeds of middle to old age. Unfortunately, German Shepherds and working dogs are susceptible to Lumbosacral Stenosis. Immune-Mediated Polyarthritis. This is an immune system condition that results in inflamed, swollen, and painful joints. Your German Shepherd will be reluctant to walk or will limp on one or more legs due to the pain. Diabetic neuropathy. If diabetes is uncontrolled, excessive glucose can cause gradual weakness or paralysis due to nerve damage. However, this condition is rare in canines. Congenital limb deformities. Abnormally developed limbs can cause your dog to limp. These are pretty rare, and a study of congenital deformities of the limbs highlighted that little is known about the causes. Osteosarcoma bone cancer. Bone tumors can grow quickly, causing limping and pain, especially in the legs. Large and giant breeds are more prone to it. Limping can range from mild to severe. However, she is doing really well with exercise modification techniques along with anti-inflammatory and pain relief medication. My vet recommended these, they get good reviews online, and they seem to be working for her. She sleeps on the Big Barker , which is the only dog bed clinically proven to reduce pain and joint stiffness. You can check out my comprehensive review here. For more severe cases such as broken bones, orthopedic surgery may be required. How to Treat a Limping German Shepherd at Home Knowing how to treat your limping German Shepherd at home by giving first aid is fundamental to help minimize any further injury or pain. Firstly, pinpoint the affected leg, evaluate its seriousness and whether your dog needs medical assistance. So, how do you treat a limping GSD at home? To treat a limping German Shepherd at home, gently examine your dog, starting at the paw. Check the pads and between the toes, and slowly work your way up, looking for cuts or foreign bodies. Gently maneuver the joints for stiffness, but do not examine if your GSD is in severe pain. Remove any foreign bodies between the toes. Clean the wound with anti-bacterial soap. Finally, apply antibiotic ointment. For cut or torn pads and broken nails. If you cannot stop the bleeding in minutes, take your pet to the vet. Apply a bandage and change daily. For burned paw pads. If the pad becomes discolored or if the tissue underneath becomes exposed, contact your veterinarian. Apply antibiotic ointment to the burned pad, bandage, and change the dressing daily. For abscesses. Apply warm compresses to the affected area or soak in a warm Epsom salts bath. If the abscess bursts, take your doggo to the vet to get the wound cleaned and some antibiotics. For swelling due to a sprain or bruising. Apply ice packs to the affected area for 15 minutes twice a day. Place your GSD in the bath, and swirl the water around his leg, or spray with a gentle hose for 15 minutes twice daily. Flowing water reduces swelling, improves circulation, and helps with healing. Confine lame dogs and restrict their activity. Your German Shepherd will have a far better chance of recovery if you provide first aid when appropriate and seek prompt veterinary care if needed. If your dog shows any outward signs of pain, discomfort, restlessness, or swelling, he should be taken to a veterinarian. Sometimes, however, a dog will show pain and it is up to the pet parent to know the signs and symptoms. Never wait when it comes to helping a dog in dire need of medical care. Any sort of sudden movement caused her pain, which she displayed by squealing aloud. Here are a few ways to move a dog with a front leg injury or pain: Blanket Stretcher Use a blanket as a makeshift sling: If you have another person to help, this is the method that I used and recommend. Position your dog on the blanket so his entire body is supported lengthwise. Stand on opposite sides of the blanket with the dog in the middle. Prevent the dog from moving or bending as much as you can, With one person on each side of the blanket, lift the corners and pull the blanket away from one another so it is taut and supportive for the dog. If you have a harder surface, use a stretcher, but if not a blanket comes in handy. If you are alone, you may have to drag the dog on the blanket gently as far as you can. Do not drag a dog down steps. It talks about spinal injuries, but the techniques are good for front leg issues, too: Carry The Dog In Your Arms If you are able to lift the dog to get him into your arms and then a vehicle, use this method. Use A Pet Carrier If your dog can be transported in a kennel, he is likely a smaller breed. A pet carrier can be used to move the dog, but ensure a blanket or soft material is placed inside the kennel first. Canine Shoulder Injuries Dogs have shoulder blades just as humans do, but they are not connected to the skeleton. How amazing is that?! The shoulder joint is called a ball and socket joint. In a dog with four legs, the shoulder joint is composed of the scapula shoulder blade bones and the humerus, or the upper bone of the front leg. Now think of all the ligaments and tendons that connect all the different parts in that shoulder joint and the shoulder as a whole. Ligaments connect bone to bone. BLB bone-ligament-bone. Tendons connect muscle to bone. Ligament and tendon injuries can happen in the front legs of a dog. Shoulder injuries can cause a dog to exhibit front leg limping or lameness, as in our situation. Dexter sustained soft tissue damage to the shoulder and neck area. Any number of activities can cause a shoulder injury in a dog, from jumping to overuse, running to swimming. If you have a chubby pooch, those extra pounds can also make him more prone to injury. For us, the dog was startled awake, jumped up, and had an awkward landing. See that scapula area and its relationship to the front legs? Dogs with a shoulder issue will often be hesitant to put pressure on one or both front legs. Sometimes, the symptoms are intermittent. The area can also swell and his neck range of motion may be limited. Only once the emergency veterinarian pointed it out did we notice our dog was not fond of moving his neck a certain way to look at us. Ah, the dreaded shoulder injury. There are a whole host of other shoulder injuries that can cause front paw limping. Biceps brachii tenosynovitis is often seen in older and athletic dogs. The biceps brachii muscle and its tendons get inflamed. In supraspinatus tendinopathy, the tendon in this muscle tears. It sounds painful because it is. Your vet may talk about calcium deposits in this area. Finally, the infraspinatus muscle is common in athletic dogs. Think about a dog who goes from zero to mach speed without warning. This injury is more disabling than it is painful. When the muscles that support the shoulder bones are overused or injured, you may see front leg limping in your dog. He was given pain medication, Tramadol, and a muscle spasm medication, methocarbamol. By the end of the first day, he was putting pressure on his leg. By day two, he showed more improvement, and this is when I decided to try a pet-friendly CBD oil. Since quality hemp oil is a strong anti-inflammatory, I went that route. I kid you not: by day three, Dexter was no longer limping. A proper diagnosis from a veterinarian is crucial followed by rest and meds as required. The little whimper sounds are normal for Dexter — he is vocal on our walks since puppyhood. Lyme Disease and Leg Lameness Does this one surprise you? The limp can change from one leg to another and dog parents are often floored when a diagnosis of Lyme disease is made. Dogs that develop Lyme disease will do so between one and five months after being bit by the infected tick. The lameness or limping is usually sudden and long after the bite, which is why it is often not associated with the tick. You may not even know a tick infected your dog, which is what happened to us. Here are some signs of Lyme disease in a dog: Limping or lameness, sometimes changing from leg to leg Warmth of the leg joints Pain in the leg joints when the vet examines your dog Pain or reluctance to rise from a laying or seated position Stiff gait.

My account Welcome to Stay Golden Kennels. Getting our first Golden was much more difficult than we would have imagined. Between online scams and large puppy mill breeders it was way too hard to find a well bred puppy to welcome into our home. After our experience we wanted to help other families find happy and healthy Goldens to welcome into their family. Our experience was that large retail breeders puppy mills produce large quantities of puppies, so many that they have to resort to isolating them in cages where the often don't receive enough love and attention. They are then shipped to retail stores where they arrive unsocialized and traumatized. Many of these puppies tend to have behavioral issues when they mature. Our puppies grow up with their Mom and Dad as members of our family in our home. They grow up playing in a yard with their pack. The result is confident, well adjusted puppies that learn to trust people and socialize with other dogs from an early age. Meet the Parents! Nala is currently 3 years old and weighs 65 pounds. What are F1, F2 Labradoodle codes? Quite a few breeders use a code method to explain how they breed their puppies and which shows which cross generation their parent dogs happen to be. Although a good idea, this method is not always that reliable. Do Labradoodles have a good Temperament? Doodles make such wonderful companions and family pets because of their intuitive and loving personalities which makes sharing a home with one of them such a pleasure whether they are first or multi-generation Doodles. They are highly intelligent and love to please which means they are a great choice for first time owners, providing they have all the time needed to dedicate to a high energy canine companion. They also need to be given a ton of mental stimulation or boredom would soon set in which could see dogs finding new and innovative ways of amusing themselves. A bored Doodle could be quite destructive around the home. They are a good choice for families where one person usually stays at home when everyone else is out of the house so they are never left to their own devices for too long at any given time. Because they love being in and around water, Doodles do tend to get a bit mucky and as such they are not the best choice for anyone who is very house proud. It also means care has to be taken whenever a Doodle is allowed to run off their leads anywhere near more dangerous water courses just in case they decide to leap in. Early socialisation is a must with Labradoodles and it should involve introducing them to lots of new situations, noises, people, other animals and dogs once they have been fully vaccinated so they grow up to be more relaxed, well balanced mature dogs. Their training must start as soon as a puppy arrives in their new home starting with the basics and then beginning their education in earnest when dogs have had all their jabs. Enrolling dogs into puppy classes is the best way to begin their training because not only does a puppy get to meet lots of other dogs and people, but their training starts in a safe and controlled environment too. They are confident, outgoing dogs by nature and this needs to be gently controlled right from the word go. If an owner allows a Doodle to get away with too much, they can become unruly and wilful which makes dogs harder to handle and live with, bearing in mind that Doodles are very smart and therefore just as quick to be mischievous and naughty as they are at being well-behaved and obedient. Are they a good choice for first time owners? Labradoodles are a great choice for first time dog owners because they are known to be so biddable by nature and being so intelligent, they are easy to train too. The downside to their intelligence is that Labradoodles are just as quick to pick up bad habits as they are the good. What about prey drive? Labradoodles do not have a high prey drive and are very social by nature. Is a Labradoodle playful? Labradoodles love to please and enjoy playing interactive games with the people they love. What about adaptability? Labradoodles are known to be highly adaptable and providing they are given enough attention, mental stimulation and daily exercise are just as happy living in town as they would in the country. With this said, Labradoodles need to have enough space to express themselves as they should and enjoy nothing more than being to romp around in a secure back garden at every opportunity. Will a Labradoodle Bark too much? Providing a Labradoodle is taught that barking for no reason is not acceptable when they are young, they quickly understand the rules. However, all dogs when left on their own for longer periods of time or are ignored will bark excessively to show they are unhappy about the situation and to get attention. Do Labradoodles like swimming? Most Labradoodles adore playing around in water and care should always be taken when walking them anywhere near more dangerous watercourses just in case a Labradoodle decides to leap in. Are Labradoodles good watchdogs? However, once a person has been introduced, they would be a Labradoodles best friend. Is a Labradoodle easy to train? Labradoodles are highly intelligent dogs and they love to please, enjoying nothing more than being around their owners and families. As such, in the right hands and environment, Doodles are easy to train and learn things extremely quickly. The downside to this is they are just as fast to learn bad habits and behaviours too which is why their training has to start early and it has to be consistent so dogs understand what is expected of them. Labradoodles are the perfect candidates to work as Therapy Dogs and Assistance Dogs for the hard of hearing. In a home environment, Doodles excel at all sorts of canine sports which includes activities like flyball, agility and obedience trials. They are sensitive by nature and as such they do not respond well to any sort of harsh correction or heavier handed training methods. They do answer very well to positive reinforcement which always brings the best out of these intelligent dogs. All too often a Doodle will outsmart their owner just for the fun of it. A Doodle puppy should be taught the following commands as soon as they arrive in their new homes because it makes life easier for them simply because they understand the ground rules and limits which they might decide to test from time to time anyway: Come. I highly recommend Pedigree Standard Poodles to anyone wanting the best bred pet they can find. They have made our family complete and are such a joy in every way. In fact after meeting mine, my aunt and a friend of mine also decided on a Pedigree Standard Poodle for their next puppy. They practically come trained from day one. You cannot do better than a puppy from Holly and Adam. I'm always leery about purchasing a pet from a breeder but I felt a lot more comfortable when they asked me a bunch of questions before giving me info on the pups. They care about their pups and want to make sure they choose the best furture pet parents for their babies. They made sure my baby was ready before sending her on her way and have been very helpful answering any questions or concerns I had since I'm new to the poodle life. Love my Dante boy! Adam and Holly are the best. Their care, compassion, well-rounded knowledge, is premiere. As new poodle owners, we had many questions and all of them were answered with patience and certainty. This is my 5th poodle and first standard poodle and has been by far the best experience yet. She fits in with the family perfect and is so chill and eager to please. I would very highly recommend them. These guys definitely put in quality into their breeding. Our Pongo is great with our kids, very calm and loving. Excellent temperament and super smart. Adam and Holly were even there for us months after we had our pup, not typical of breeders to help you after the purchase of your puppy. Probably will never buy a puppy from anyone else moving forward. Thanks for the care and compassion of our puppy and making sure our family has a great member of the family. Holly and Adam spend countless hours working with their pups and it shows! Our 12 week old puppy could already sit and shake when we picked him up, along with leash and collar trained. He is one of the most well behaved puppies I have ever seen, not to mention his coat is flawless. Great owners and great genes!! Pedigree Poodles are the best!!! So thankful to have my dream dog! Forequarters Hindquarters To show your poodle in competitions, they will not only need to exhibit quality characteristics but will need to have AKC paperwork to prove their bloodlines. Even dog owners who have no interest in showing or breeding their pets should be wary of who they purchase their poodles from. Some unethical breeders may sell mixed breed puppies at purebred pricing. Exploring the Basics of the Poodle Breed Poodles are a great breed for many families due to their energetic, yet friendly temperament and easy training abilities. However, they can be lonely dogs if left alone for too long and need a fair amount of regular care. Smaller breeds do not need a lot of space and can be great apartment dogs, but they do have moderately high levels of energy that they need to run off each day. From smallest to largest of the breed are the Toy, the Miniature, and the Standard poodle. The oldest of the three is the Standard Poodle. The basic size guide for these poodles is: Toy — 10 inches and under at the shoulder Miniature — 10 inches but not over 15 inches at the shoulder. Usually between 13 and 15 inches. Standard — Over 15 inches at the shoulder Average are 22 to 27 inches. The smallest members of the poodle breed are the toy, teacup and miniature poodles. Visit this article to learn about the history and characteristics of each. While the sizing of the breed clearly varies, they all have similar features and personality traits that most owners love. They were once thought of as prissy or regal pets, but they are actually very athletic, eager, and extremely smart. They can be trained with great success and are extremely obedient with proper care. Unless you are hoping to show or breed your pup, this does not exactly matter. However, knowing your pup is purebred can also help you get a better idea of its final size, stature, and shape. Also, you can learn more about the temperament and behavioral characteristics that your pet will have later on in life, as mixed breeds may not have the friendly demeanor most poodles do. Is Your Poodle Pup a Purebred? Luckily, each dog breed has a basic standard laid out that you can follow to learn more about what your pup should look like. The AKC website has the specifications for many breeds listed so that you can compare your dog to the breed standards. However, this can be challenging as even purebred dogs can differ slightly in appearance. We will further discuss the ways to figure out if your dog is a purebred poodle and be more certain of this. However, going by appearance alone can help you narrow down your search for a purebred poodle and can help you ensure that your pet is of full blood. Some of the key characteristics that you want to look for when analyzing your dog are: The General Appearance of Purebred Poodles Most poodles have similar personalities, as mentioned above. While this can differ from dog to dog, many poodles are very active, intelligent, and elegant appearing. You should notice a square build to their bodies, fairly well proportioned, and they usually carry themselves proudly. Head Shape Purebred poodles have a moderately rounded head with a slight but definite stop. The cheekbones and muscles are flat. Coat Texture A great giveaway of if your poodle is purebred is by its coat as these are a non-shedding breed. This makes the dog a great choice for those with allergies and most can keep poodle with no reactions. No matter the shade, your poodle should have curly, wiry hair that is fairly dense. These dogs need to be groomed regularly and if you are considering showing the dog, you will need to learn more about the different styles. Some who simply own but do not show their poodle style them in crazy ways, but the American Kennel Club only allows four shapes: Continental Sporting Puppy Clip — for dogs under a year Check out this article for much more on the different kinds of poodle hair and pictures for each. Body Unlike many other breeds, the poodle has fairly snug skin and you will not see a lot of sagging. They have a strong, muscled shoulder. They should have a topline that is level, it should not slop nor roach from the highest point of the shoulder blade to the base of the tail. There should only be as light hollow behind the shoulder. The chest is deep and should be moderately wide with ribs that stand out. The loin is shorter, broad and muscular. Also, the tail should be straight and high set, but you will want it to be docked to a length that ensures a balanced outline. Forequarter Shape As mentioned, the shoulders should be strong and muscled and the should blade is laid back and around the same length as the upper foreleg. The forelegs themselves should be straight and parallel when viewed from the front of the dog. At a side view, the elbow is directly below the highest point of the shoulder. The feet of most poodles are rather small and oval-shaped with toes that are arched. The pads on each foot should be cushioned and thick, for showing the dewclaws can be removed and nails should be groomed. The feet of the dog should not turn in or out. Hindquarter Shape The hindquarters should balance out the forequarters in shape. The hind legs are straight and parallel when viewed from behind. You will notice the dog is muscular, with stifles that are well bent. The femur and tibia are about equal in length. Where to Buy Your Purebred Poodle? While these physical characteristics can tell you a lot, it can be hard to differentiate between true purebred poodles and other breeds. This is where purchasing from a quality breeder is key. If you are buying a poodle puppy, you want to ensure you are buying the best. While there is nothing wrong with adopting a pet or rescuing a dog, if you are paying a purebred price, you want a purebred pup. There are four main ways to get a poodle puppy, these are: From a purebred dog breeder A backyard dog breeder A local rescue shelter or poodle rescue shelter Buy from a Purebred Breeder A purebred breeder is the best way to guarantee that you are getting a poodle puppy that has show quality bloodlines. These breeders usually take their job seriously and take great pride in their pets. You can find breeders who focus on standard, miniature, or toy sizes. Though these are often the most expensive puppies on the market, they are usually the safest option. You will often see these breeders divide their puppies into two categories show quality and pet quality. Show quality puppies are usually the top of the litter and can be more expensive. Most quality breeders will only sell to individuals who have been interviewed and vetted. You should be able to tell from the first time you speak to the breeder that they love poodles and want the best for their pups. It may take a while to find a poodle at your local shelter, but this does happen periodically. You can also find organizations that are dedicated to taking on poodles that no longer have homes, these are a great option if you are willing to research and maybe travel. While these dogs are not necessarily the best for showing purposes, they are great for homeowners of all types. Plus, older poodles are usually housebroken and are past the pesky puppy stage. Also, most adoption fees are lower than what it costs to purchase from a breeder. Avoid Puppy Mills or Backyard Breeder While some backyard breeders are amazing people and have great pups, these are usually accidental puppies. This means that some breeders advertise their puppies as purebred, but they may be mixed due to the accidental pregnancy. This means you may be buying a pup that you believe is full poodle but is really half poodle and half the random dog down the street. Puppy mills are something you should truly just avoid all together! These individuals are usually solely in the breeding business for money and put little care into the dogs they own. Often these poodles are not purebred, and the puppies are not cared for before purchase. Ask for a Pedigree If you are purchasing a puppy or older dog from a breeder, you should ask if they have pedigree papers. This will mean the puppy has either been KC or AKC registered and this style of pedigree is only given to purebred dogs. If your breeder gave you a pedigree upon purchases, you can almost be certain that your pup is purebred. This will show you any awards or accomplishments they may have made during their lifetimes. This is great for those who want to show the puppy later on. In the rare case that your breeder is dishonest, you may have an invalid pedigree. However, this is rare, but some breeders have lied about the parents of puppies in the past. If your puppy begins to look less like a poodle than you were expecting, this could be why. How Much do Poodles Cost? One of the best ways to ensure that your puppy is a purebred poodle is the price your breeder asks. The price for standard, miniature, and toy poodles will vary from breeder to breeder, but you can expect to pay around the same amount from reputable breeders. Of course, as mentioned, a show pup will cost more than a puppy that is pet quality. These pet-quality puppies usually lack the ideal coat color or appearance to compete in shows. However, they are still great pets if you do not have the budget or desire for a show dog. Also, some puppies that are in less demand, smaller, have a negative temperament, etc. Purebred, quality puppies can cost in the thousands. If you notice that the puppy is extremely lower in cost, this can be a sign that you are not purchasing a purebred dog. Though it may seem odd considering size, most miniature and toy-sized poodles are more expensive than standard-sized poodles. The reasoning behind this is that standard-sized poodles have much larger litters, making them more worth it for the breeder. While smaller dogs have smaller litters, making them more expensive to breed. Other Ways to See if Your Pet is Purebred Whether you just purchased your poodle pup, or you have had your dog for years, you may be interested in their true lineage. A great place to start when it comes to deciding if your pet is purebred is to take them to the vet and simply ask their opinion. Veterinarians usually see hundreds of the same breed during their time in business, they should know more about what to look for. While a simple visit to the vet cannot guarantee that your pet is purebred, they can identify a lot from their general appearance. They are more knowledgeable on the appearance of an average poodle and can compare your pet. Based on appearance alone they can usually rule out if your pet is a mixed breed or more likely to be purebred. These services differ but some vets do offer this service and can handle the collection of the DNA for you. You can also purchase an at-home DNA kit from Amazon here. These tests require you to do a bit more work by collecting and submitting the DNA samples. However, there could be significant cost savings by employing this method. These will differ but many go back to the great-grandparents which are usually enough to guarantee if they are purebred or not. If you do have a puppy, you can learn more about what other breeds they are mixed with should this be the case. Does it Matter if a Poodle is Purebred? While this may be information you want to know, at the end of the day it may not mean anything to you at all. Most good pet owners will not sell or get rid of their dog simply because it is not purebred, especially after having it for some time. However, if you are just purchasing a puppy for show purposes, it can be extremely important for your dog to be purebred. If you follow the steps previously mentioned, you are more likely to get a puppy that is purebred, and you will have no issues. If it is extremely important to you, you should have the puppy examined by a vet, DNA tested, or ask for pedigrees to guarantee its lineage before purchasing or quickly thereafter. Some breeders will take the puppy back if it is proven to not be purebred, but this is very situational. If you are just purchasing your puppy to keep as a pet, you may find that poodle mixed breeds are a great option. These dogs can still feature many of the great qualities that poodles possess and can become great pets. I hope you found it helpful. Breeders developed Toy Poodles in 18th century England as smaller versions of their German predecessors. The Toy Poodle began to represent social status, and nobles would decorate their dogs in high fashion of the time. They became so popular, in fact, that they were one of the first toy breeds recognized by the Kennel Club. Toy Poodles are smart cookies. Their intelligence is one of their predominant features, and is often showcased during obedience training. These dogs have tremendous problem-solving capabilities that make them ideal for competitions. On the other hand, this same intelligence makes for an easily bored pup. They need mental stimulation, like challenging games and toys , to keep their busy minds occupied. The Toy Poodle may also be suspicious of strangers and slow to warm up to new people. This dog breed can adapt to a wide range of living situations due to their small size. As a matter of fact, they have trouble dealing with any kind of alone time. As such, the Toy Poodle is an excellent companion animal for people who love a little company. There are a few health conditions that Toy Poodles are more susceptible to than other dog breeds. For example, they may suffer from eye disorders, like cataracts, or blood clotting disorders, like Hemophilia. Because of their size, they may also bear the risk of dental crowding, kneecap migration, or trachea instability. With regular visits to the veterinarian, many of these potential health concerns can be comfortably managed. Owners typically have an easy time during obedience training with Toy Poodles. Their intelligence often hastens the training process. However, they can present destructive tendencies when left to their own devices for too long. Toy Poodles have famously low-shedding coats. They lack undercoats, so their shedding is minimal. Their fur is hypoallergenic and mats rather than sheds. These pups will only need to be groomed to prevent matting and increase shine. Usually, brushing your Toy Poodle once or twice a week and grooming every six weeks is sufficient. As a small dog breed, they are more prone to developing dental disease so good dental care is important. Poodles are an active breed in general, and Toy Poodles in specific are just as active. After a few laps around the kitchen, the Toy Poodle will tire out and happily sit by their owners during daily activities. The Toy Poodle stands at a mighty inches at the shoulder. Their weight ranges from pounds and usually averages around 8 pounds. Toy Poodles usually live 12 — 15 years. The Poodle coat is built for the water and even the Toy Poodle tends to have excellent, practically innate, swimming abilities. Featured Toy Poodle Article. When I decided to get a poodle puppy, way back in the fall of , I looked long and hard for a situation where the puppies were well-socialized. I wanted a puppy that played well with other dogs and loved people. It never occurred to me to worry about the health of my puppy. Like most fifty-ish people, I was raised with a healthy happy dog and assumed they came that way. Like many children of that era, though, I was shocked to discover that breeders of the time culled their litters, culling being a euphemism for killing some of the puppies, presumably the ones with obvious genetic defects. Now, I wonder if that culling is what led in part to the current crisis of genetic health in purebred dogs; covering up evidence of recessive genes did not diminish their frequency in the population of purebred dogs. And I paid the price for that negligence for the almost nine years Elly was with me. She had several health problems common in poodles. She had hip dysplasia, which required both oral pain medication Rimadyl or Metacam and regular shots Adequan. She had inflammatory bowel disease IBD which required expensive diagnosis sedation and endoscopy and then a special diet for the rest of her life. She had food allergies more dietary restrictions. She had a hemangiosarcoma a common and often fatal cancer in dogs removed at age 4, which required more anesthesia and relatively minor surgery it was in the skin, thankfully. She had benign tumors removed from her eyelids at age 8. More anesthesia and more minor surgery. She may have had immune-mediated thrombocytopenia. It might have been something else entirely. The platelet count of a dog should be around , to , When I decided to get a second poodle, I knew that all that mattered to me was that I find a healthy poodle. I love standard poodles. I was lucky enough to meet Vikki Kauffman, a breeder who is as obsessed with poodle health as I am. She taught me how to read pedigrees; she explained to me about the uses of the Poodle Health Registry. She talked to me about the genetics of the most common diseases of poodles. Each win earns points; the number of points depends on the number of dogs defeated. Looking at the pedigree some more, you can scroll down to the bottom and click on the five-generation hip pedigree. In a perfect world, both parents and their parents and more will have Good or Excellent hips. Perhaps the day I picked up the puppy. Before I fell in love. Now, I need to caution that many many dogs with genetic diseases are not listed in the PHR. Only the owner can list a dog, and the disease has to be confirmed by a vet and the vet has to sign off on the listing form. If you see a dog with a genetic disease listed, you can be sure that dog has the disease. If you see a dog with no diseases listed… well, that dog might or might not be healthy. He sure had a lot of puppies. And you can, with a lot of back-and-forthing, track some genetic diseases through those puppies. One of his puppies had a puppy who had a puppy: my Moonstones Elinor. Go look at her PHR pedigree. Now, moving on to finding a healthy poodle puppy. Talk to the breeder. Ask why she chose to breed the two particular dogs that she did. Was she breeding for health? For size? For looks? For personality? Go check the pedigrees and the testing for yourself. You can go to the website of the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals OFA and check the results directly without waiting for the breeder to make you copies. No really great breeder would fail to test their dogs. Breeders need to love the breed, their dogs, the process—and be willing to give it all up at any time if there turns out to be a genetic problem with one of their dogs. Search for:.

bernedoodle puppies scotland - Bernedoodle Puppies Indiana: Conclusion Choosing a Responsible Bernedoodle Breeder These days Doodles are some of the most popular dogs around for very good reasons, we feel! Unfortunately, this is all too easy, given that breeders of these hybrid puppies are not yet subject to the same kind of standards as those of pedigree ones. The first thing you need to be on the lookout for is scammers. Not every person who says they have puppies is telling the truth. These kinds of fakers put adverts about the place using internet-sourced photos, claim deposits for the dogs left, right, and center, and then simply disappear without a trace taking all that lovely money with them. Here are a few further pointers to help you spot that you might be dealing with a scammer. On the other hand, some facilities may indeed have the puppies they are advertising, but they might not be quite as happy and healthy as advertised. Puppy mills otherwise known as puppy farms are kennels and breeding operations where profit is placed ahead of the animals. Parent pups are bred to within an inch of their lives, kept in appalling conditions, and not provided with the right food or any medical treatment. Any puppy you get here is likely to be in poor physical and mental health. Evidence of these on the website could indicate that you are dealing with a quality breeder who understands the many responsibilities involved with the ethical breeding of high-quality Doodles. Ensure Appropriate Health Checks Perhaps a more concrete way to guarantee that you are purchasing a healthy pup from a quality breeding line is to ask for evidence of genetic testing. The best breeders will do their utmost to ensure that the animals used in their program are free from the kinds of canine conditions that can easily pass on to their offspring. As usually bigger dogs, Bernies may be susceptible to joint issues, among other things. Better facilities will often display details of health checks on their websites. Look For a Health Guarantee Aside from evidence of genetic screening, a health guarantee is the holy grail for those looking to purchase a puppy. These basically give you all kinds of rights in terms of getting a new puppy or money back if any hereditary health issues arise. This makes them worth their weight in gold. Any breeder that offers a 2-year guarantee is making the ultimate statement about their trust in their parent pups and the offspring they have bred from them. If you can get this kind of guidance from a family member or friend, all the better. If not, look to trusted websites such as this one to provide information and some names to get going with. Just make sure to still keep an eye out for health screening and purchase guarantees. This will enable you to have absolute confidence in the facility you are dealing with. Read Online Reviews Another great source of information and recommendations is online reviews. With such a large community of Doodles lovers out there, social media can be an invaluable tool for potential pet parents. This goes not just for finding the right kind of breeder but also for tips on preparing your house for the arrival of your newest family member and more. Take care, though, to source reviews from independent websites. The more positive reviews a place has, the better. After all, it can be effortless to fake a few, but impossible to fake hundreds or more. For more ways to ensure you are dealing with the best quality puppy facility after all, a Bernedoodle is quite an investment! Males tend to be larger than females, but beyond that, there is not a major difference between the genders. The differences are quite subtle, and both males and females make amazing pets. We think temperament is more important than gender when matching dogs to owners. If your Bernedoodle is very active outdoors, you will likely find a shorter clip easier to maintain. But many owners enjoy the look of them in a fuller coat. A curly coat is less likely to shed but more likely to become matted if not brushed regularly. bernedoodle puppies scotland - While free-feeding is generally okay when feeding your puppy, it is wise to introduce a feeding routine at around 13 weeks old. As for adult Goldendoodles, you can feed them one meal in the morning and another in the evening. This should be enough to make them feel full throughout the day. Senior Goldendoodles, on the other hand, can be fed once in the morning or once at night. If your dog still prefers two meals, you can feed them similarly as you would an adult. While on the topic of optimal feeding time, it is also important to know when to give treats to your dog. Usually, it is best to give treats to your pooch in between meals — not right before and not right after. Preferably, you should only use treats to reward your dog. In turn, this will also affect their potty schedule and interfere with the balanced diet they should be getting. Always remember that you can tweak these optimal feeding times so that it fits your lifestyle better. However, it is best to feed them around the same time each day. They love any food and can eat almost anything you serve. However, it is still essential to know the best foods to give your Goldendoodle. Providing the best kinds of food for your dog is not only good for their health, but it also helps preserve some of their best features, such as their hypoallergenic trait and calm disposition. Wet food is easier to chew than dry food and is suitable for dogs with weak teeth, senior dogs, sick dogs, or dehydrated dogs. Wet food is arguably the best puppy food. Its flavor and softness are excellent for developing teeth. Dry Food: Dry food or kibble is the most convenient food to serve your dog. In addition, dry food is also one of the best food choices for a Goldendoodle as it is excellent for their dental health. Dry food prevents tartar buildup and gum disease and promotes stronger teeth. Kibble is best for adult Goldendoodles as their teeth are as strong as it gets. Some ingredients you should look for when choosing kibble are chicken fat, flaxseed, omega-3, and meat protein. There are also grain-free options if your dog prefers those. This consists of raw meat, bones, fish meal, and a mix of fruits and vegetables. Feeding your Goldendoodle a raw diet reduces the use of commercial dog foods that have added preservatives and unhealthy processed foods. BARF diet has been proven to bring health benefits such as healthier and shinier skin and coat, good dental health, fewer ear infections, and less odor in Goldendoodles. Plus, Goldendoodles like the taste of raw food! Homemade Diet: A homemade diet is very much acceptable for Goldendoodles. They can thrive with this diet as long as proper nutrients are provided. Also remember that Miniature, medium, and standard Goldendoodles will have different feeding needs. Goldendoodle Puppy Feeding Chart There is a lot of nuance involved in feeding a Goldendoodle puppy since their nutritional requirements change with their age, size, and degree of activity. To do so, just divide the weight in pounds by 2. With this method, you may roughly estimate how many calories your Goldendoodle need each day when at rest. Keep in mind that this is only a guideline. They need to be with the mother and the rest of the litter, putting on weight healthily. You should count on them sleeping for the most of the day and moving just for brief periods. The best way to get them adjusted to the new routine is to feed them three to four little meals a day, gradually increasing the quantity and lowering the wetness. You should begin by giving them a quarter to a half cup of a soft, moistened puppy chow every meal. You should modify the dose according to their weight and hunger levels. Understanding Goldendoodle Puppy Nutritional Needs Puppies of the goldendoodle breed should be fed a healthy, well-rounded diet to ensure their optimal development and growth. Depending on their age, height, and amount of activity, a Goldendoodle puppy typically needs to 1, calories per day. Keep in mind that there are three different sized Goldendoodles. The smaller dogs would thus consume much less food. They need to eat a balanced diet of nutritious proteins, fats, and complex carbs. Calcium, phosphorus, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids are crucial for the healthy development of Goldendoodle pups. Healthy growth of bones, the immune system, and the brain all depend on these nutrients. To avoid obesity and encourage good digestion, pups should be given three to four modest meals each day rather than one or two big ones. This aids in controlling portion sizes and facilitating proper digestion. Because of their small stomachs, puppies need regular feedings to keep them energized and healthy. As your puppy gets older, you may cut down on the frequency of feedings and boost the amount of each meal. Kibble may aid in dental hygiene by scraping plaque and tartar off the teeth while the puppy eats. Picky eaters could be more enticed by wet food, and pups with dental issues or missing teeth might find it simpler to digest. In addition, you should make sure that the food is formulated for pups and prepared with high-quality components. Switching From Puppy Food To Adult Food Depending on their size and breed, you should transition your Goldendoodle puppy from puppy food to adult food between the ages of 12 and 18 months. You should start with a little quantity of adult food and puppy food mixed together, and then gradually increase the amount of adult food while lowering the amount of puppy food. This ease of adjustment may reduce digestive issues. When a Goldendoodle puppy stops eating, the first thing to do is to rule out any serious health problems. Feeding smaller meals more often, warming the food with water or chicken broth, or trying a new brand or taste of food are all options. Overfeeding, obesity, and gastrointestinal issues are all possible outcomes of free-feeding a Goldendoodle puppy. Because of their tiny stomachs, puppies need frequent feedings to keep them energized and promote their healthy development. Picky eating may be avoided and good eating habits can be established with a regular meal plan. Instead of two big meals, Goldendoodle pups should be fed three or four smaller meals a day. The Proper Care and Feeding of Goldendoodles Feb 14 Written By Skye Parker There are a lot of different factors you should consider when you are thinking about the right food and the right amount. Like their age, how much they weigh, or what to do if your Goldendoodle is a picky eater. We will talk about the different ages of puppies and how much to feed them as they grow older. We will talk about the different options for dog food and what you should get and avoid. It's also essential to think about what to do in different situations where you have a picky eater or what to do if they ever get sick. When your Goldendoodle is younger, you will need to feed them more often than when they get older; they will eat less at a time too. Anytime you are transitioning your puppies' feeding options, whether it's giving them more, switching brands, or from puppy food to dog food, you will want to do it gradually. For a while, you will mix the two. If you make a sudden change in their diet, it could cause stomach problems for your Goldendoodle. Transitioning will usually take about days. Standard Goldendoodles will need cups per day. This is an excellent guide to follow; however, all dogs are different, and if your dog ever acts hungry or aggressive constantly, this is a sign that you should increase their eating portion. If you can ever see your Goldendoodles' ribs, that is a strong indication that they need more food. Most dogs will stop eating when they get full, but it is still better to have set feeding times throughout the day rather than having one big meal available at all times. Foods That are Unhealthy or Poisonous for Goldendoodles There are a few foods that we may eat regularly that aren't healthy for Goldendoodles. This is very important to know of the foods to be mindful of. Grapes or raisins: These can cause your Goldendoodle to choke, and they will have a hard time digesting them. This also includes prunes. Dairy Products: When dairy products are given in large amounts, it can mess with the digestive system. Dogs' bodies are not used to processing dairy, which could cause problems if they have a lot. However, even though it's best to avoid this, a small amount is acceptable. Cherries: This might seem like a weird thing to be on this list, but they are toxic to Goldendoodles as well as other dogs. Any foods that are raw or uncooked could cause salmonella and other diseases. You should also avoid raw eggs and undercooked meat. Soda: This isn't the best for humans and even worse for dogs. They don't do very well with carbonation or high amounts of sugar. Chocolate: This is the most commonly known food that is toxic for all dogs, and it is accurate. Whether dark or light chocolate, dogs don't react well to this food. Coffee, avocado, onions, and garlic are all foods Goldendoodles should avoid eating. Any salty foods are not healthy for your dog either. It can cause them to get sick and dehydrated. Foods with a lot of sugar or even constantly providing food containing sugar can cause your dog to get diabetes. You don't have to change your Goldendoodles diet when they get sick, but most vets will recommend switching to white rice and chicken for their meals when they're ill or after surgery. When you are preparing this meal for your pup, you will want to give them only white meat with all bones and fat removed. As for the rice, people will usually say brown rice is healthier because it has more grains, but white rice is easier for them to digest when they are sick. Boil the chicken like you usually would until cooked. Then drain the water, pull off all bones and fat, and cut the chicken into bite-size pieces. As for the rice, you can boil it like you usually would or use the chicken broth from the chicken earlier. However you decide to prepare it, do not use any seasonings; these can be toxic for your puppy and worsen the condition. When deciding how much to give your puppy, use a one-to-two ratio. You will also want to check the temperature of the food to ensure they don't get burnt. Feeding a Picky Goldendoodle If your Goldendoodle is a picky eater, the solution is usually a quick fix. The common reasons for being picky could be that they are fed too often, they lack physical activities, receiving too many treats, or if your dog is stressed or sick. These are reasonable causes for a picky eater; they also have easy fixes. If you follow all of the guidelines brought out in this article, you will be sure to have a healthy and happy Goldendoodle. Two portions a day are enough for this age. At this point, your mini Goldendoodle is considered an adult. If you notice that there are leftovers, reduce the portion. When it comes to determining the specific foods that meet the needs of your miniature Goldendoodle , his age matters a lot. It also helps determine the feeding quantity he needs along with other factors like his actual size, basal metabolism rate, and activity level. If he is extremely active, then you also have to provide him with more food. Basically, here is what to feed your Miniature Goldendoodle based on age: 6 weeks old Miniature Goldendoodle should eat: If you have a 6-week-old miniature Goldendoodle, then you can classify him as a baby. He still needs the support of his mother to get the nutrients his body needs for growth and development. At this stage, it would be best for the puppy to feed freely from his mother. The reason is that his mother produces all the nutrients and other good stuff he needs for survival. If for some reason the puppy gets separated from his mom before 6 weeks of age, feed him with this homemade emergency milk replacer. Preparation: Blend all of the ingredients and warm to F. Discard any unused milk 24 hours after mixing and always refrigerate between uses. This is also the right time to begin introducing delicious puppy foods into his everyday feedings. Note that this will involve a transition from a liquid to a solid diet. So, it would be ideal to try softening or smoothening the change with the help of wet canned choices. They serve as excellent transitional foods. By using these foods, the sensitive stomach of your puppy will not be drastically affected, making it possible for him to familiarize himself comfortably with the new foods introduced to him. It is also helpful in ensuring that he will have healthier stools, preventing him from causing a mess that you have to clean afterward. In case you were successful in weaning him in the past, it would be much better to apply a similar gentle approach, thereby ensuring that his digestive system will be able to adjust slowly to the new foods being introduced to him. One more thing you should keep in mind is that dry foods have less water. With that in mind, do not forget to set aside some water for your puppy, so he can always easily access it every time he needs to drink. It is also crucial in keeping him fully hydrated. I will say again, it is important to feed your Miniature Goldendoodle based on his age. In this case, it is surely the perfect time for you to check out the labels of the foods you are feeding him. That way, you can pick food or a recipe that is perfect for his specific life stage. What you should look for during this age is a dog food labeled as puppy formula. It is suitable for the needs of a 3-month-old miniature Goldendoodle since it is specifically designed to contain the nutrients needed by his growing and developing body. Keep in mind that foods labeled as adult life stages have different formulations. It does not also provide adequate support for the additional calories needed for his growth. This is also the time when you can lessen the frequency of his feedings. Two meals daily are even enough for his age. Avoid leaving foods that he can munch on during this stage as it may only cause him to overeat and gain excess weight. It means that he has reached adulthood, which also indicates that his eating frequency also gets lower. There are even instances when there are leftovers from the foods you feed him. In case you notice that then maybe it would be a good idea to reduce the kibbles you feed him during each meal. Obese puppies develop an improved risk for many types of cancer, diabetes mellitus, heart disease, and hypertension. Rickets: Rickets is a rare disorder of young, growing animals that causes soft and distorted bones. It is generally caused by poor phosphorus or vitamin D in the diet. More infrequently, calcium shortage is to blame. A quantity of calcium has caused rickets-like signs in some dogs. Allergies: In the dog, the most ordinary symptom associated with allergies is itching of the skin, either localized in one area or generalized all over the body. Occasionally, there may be watery release from the eyes or nose. How much should I feed my Goldendoodle puppy? Since puppies grow fast, the importance and frequency of meals change as they develop. Summary Feeding a Goldendoodle can both be difficult and comfortable at the same time.
