Gender is irrelevant when choosing a pet, both males and females make wonderful pets, the gender does not effect their trainability or behavior either way. Please see My Resource Page downloads for info on that and other things So it is wise to be flexible about those things, and not get fixated on one "look" or puppy in general, and focus moreon temperament, if you do not want to wait forever for a puppy. Mother Nature ultimately controls those things. The more restrictive you are with specific looks or gender the longer you may wait to often no avail. People choose Puppies in the order they have reserved a space on a particular litter, when puppies are 8 weeks of age, on the go home date. So I cannot tell you which specific puppies are available on a litter - People choose them at 8 weeks. If you wait to reserve a space, you may not have a space! I hope that makes sense - standard practice. Thank you! So it is important to choose by the description of what I write the puppies should look like, not the parents looks alone. For example a white parent may not be able to produce white puppies based on the mate with which it is paired. However two solid colored parents may produce white or parti puppies! So it is best to read the description of what I say should be produced. Ultimately specific markings are up to Mother Nature, as is Gender,and I cannot control those things please understand! Most of these puppies in all of these groups should highly resemble one another in fact! We also reserve the right to chage studs at any time, for a number of reasons for the best outcome. We do our best to estimate the month we expect to breed a girl, but heat cycles can vary, which means the availability date is simply our best estimate. You will need to be flexible on timing of receiving a puppy, if you choose to reserve from a litter that has not yet been bred. We also have a general waitlist that we we can place you upon if these litters fill up before you get your deposit placed appropriately. It is a recognised breed in it's own right by International Genetic Testing laboratories and is sometimes called Australian Labradoodle which can be misleading. Other ASDs have a wool coat which is much thicker, denser and more springy which should also be non shedding. The wool coat has less movement and resembles a Poodle coat. However, there are many different and complex allergies and sometimes people find that they are allergic to not only dog hair, but also dog saliva and urine which is a problem if you want to have a puppy. The ASD is not a hypo-allergenic dog as it's saliva or urine could still trigger an allergic reaction. The Kennel Club do not recognise this breed as Pedigree and there are therefore no KC Registration Papers available which means great care must be taken to keep the breed in good repute. The breed was created to SERVE and provide therapy, companionship and assistance to those with special needs. This procedure, as far as the ASD is concerned, has been found to be safe, ethical and highly effective against indiscriminate and unlawful breeding practises. If we want to learn anything about their offspring, we must review certain genetic facts and statistics beforehand. This is the dog that carries it. The Bichon Frise looks like a vanilla cupcake or cream puff with a height of 9 — 12 inches 23 — 30 cm and a weight of 6. It has an affectionate, playful, and cheerful temperament, with a slice of feistiness and sensitivity on the side. The primary health concerns to look out for are epilepsy, White Shaker Syndrome which causes the dog to shake uncontrollably , and dyskinesia — a type of movement disorder. But the vet will be able to make a proper diagnosis. A healthy Bichon Frise has a life expectancy of 12 — 15 years. Brief Overview Of The Poodle Poodles of all sizes toy , mini, and standard have two universal crowd-pleasing traits. The height and weight of a Poodle can be broken down into three categories. Across the mini, toy, and standard growth charts, the height fluctuates between 9 — 24 inches 21 — 61 cm. The weight between 6 — 60 pounds 3 — 27 kg. All sizes are intelligent, active, and faithful, and live between 12 years. Like the Bichon Frise, the Poodle may suffer from epilepsy at some point in its life. It may also experience the following health issues. The Poodle and the Bichon Frise have identical lifespans, so their offspring are predicted to live between 12 — 15 years as well. A full-grown Bichon Poodle should be about 9 to 15 inches cm tall at the withers with a weight of 6 — 17 pounds 3 — 8 kg. The Bichpoo can also be found in cream, black, blue, and apricot. There are certain arguments in life that will never be settled. Blonde vs. When it comes to dogs, there is no definitive, black and white answer. There will always be at least one exception. Although, the point of cross-breeding is to eliminate certain health concerns. So, what predictions can we make about hybrid dogs? The first generation of the Bichon Poodle Mix is healthier than its parent breeds. The second generation is not as healthy as the first, and any issues that arise in round two will most likely carry on in round three and so forth. With alert and active parents, the Poochon will be no different. This mix needs daily exercise preferably outside for at least 30 minutes. It has a lot of energy to burn. Keep in mind that mental and physical stimulation are different, and the Bichon Poodle Mix needs both. A bored Bichpoo will bark and whine or turn your shoes into a chew toy of its own with your permission. OK, we get it. The Bichpoo is smart, but can it be taught to play dead? Or roll over? Or give a high-5? And Yes. This breed is capable of learning a solid amount of tricks. Just make sure to have plenty of treats on-hand for positive reinforcement. Watch how well this Bichpoo gives its owner a high-5 and pay attention to how she rewards her dog! Every breed comes with at least one trait we wish we could alter. This comes from the Poodle side. If your Bichon Poodle Mix is not socialized at an early age, it can develop separation anxiety when left alone for hours. The Bichpoo can show moments of mild aggression around unfamiliar dogs. The Bichon Poodle is a loving companion for adults, children, and strangers, which makes it one of the best family dogs. Haircuts every two months are a necessity to keep its coat tame. If that sounds like too much responsibility or money, you can shave your Bichpoo in the summertime. Its coat causes minimal shedding, which makes it a good option for owners with allergies or who want a clean house. The last part of grooming requires occasional teeth brushing to keep mouth infections at bay. Bichon Poodle owner Sandy Rothra recommends feeding your mix canned dog food because it contains a higher percentage of meat protein. This counts for all dog breeds: if your pup gets sick with a kidney or heart issue, you will need to change its diet. You should never feed any dog chocolate, onions, grapes, and raisins. Multiple dogs sometimes clean each others eyes, but dogs typically do not clean their own eyes. Check their ears for debris and pests daily and clean them as recommended by your vet. They should not be clicking loudly against the floor. Your groomer can help with this. You should brush their teeth daily, as small breeds are prone to dental issues. Poochon Feeding An ideal Poochon diet should be formulated for a small breed with moderate to high energy. They have a tendency to gain weight if they are overfed, so you should stick to a regular feeding schedule and not leave food out during the day. The main colors of Poochons are cream, tan, and apricot. Usually their coats are solid, and sometimes they have blend of colors. Less common colors are black or grey. Both parent breeds are high maintenance when it comes to grooming, and you can expect the same from the Poochon. These pups will most likely require daily brushing along with shampooing every few weeks with a mild product and monthly grooming. Poochons are prone to tear stains. If you decide to adopt a Poochon, keep a cloth tissue on hand to dab their eyes regularly. It helps manage the tear staining quite a bit. Poochon Children And Other Pets Poochons adore kids and families and the endless noise and commotion that comes with them. However, because the Poochon is a small dog, they can be easily injured by overly excited children. As with every breed, you should always teach children how to approach and touch dogs, and always supervise any interactions between dogs and young children to prevent any biting or ear or tail pulling on the part of either party. No dog, no matter how friendly, should ever be left unsupervised with a child. The Poochon enjoys the company of other dogs, as long as they receive their fair share of attention from their owner. Since Poochons have a social nature, a family with lots of animals could be ideal. For an active, social person, the Poochon could be your perfect co-pilot for life. Poochon Rescue Groups It may be hard to find a breed-specific rescue for Poochons because they are a mixed breed. However, you may want to try Poodle or Bichon Frise breed-specific rescues, as they often care for mixes, as well. Here are some rescues you can try:. Low History of the Poochon The history of the poochon is not well recorded. Purebred dogs have been bred for generations following a special blueprint called the breed standard, which is the written description of the ideal physical and temperamental traits of the breed. The breed standard is what gives purebred dogs predictable height and weight, body structure, color, coat type, and temperament. The poochon is a hybrid and not a purebred dog, so it does not have a breed standard and it is not standardized. This means that there is a lot of variation in the way individual poochons might look and act. A poochon that is a cross between a purebred bichon frise and a purebred poodle might look more like a bichon or more like a poodle, or could look different from both breeds. That said, these parent breeds are more similar than different, both in looks and temperament, so poochons are likely to look and act in a similar manner to the parent breeds. Some might question the reasoning behind breeding together such similar breeds. Crossbred puppies have the potential of inheriting congenital diseases and disorders present in both parent breeds. The poochon is not recognized by any of the purebred dog registries such as the American Kennel Club or United Kennel Club. What Is a Designer Dog Breed? Poochon Care Grooming requirements for the poochon are the same as those for the bichon frise and poodle. The curly, dense coat of the poochon sheds very little or not at all, but daily brushing or brushing every other day is necessary to remove loose hair from the coat and prevent matting. Grooming Poochons with undercoats likely need more frequent brushing than poochons with single coats. Like their parent breeds, poochons need haircuts from a professional groomer every four to eight weeks. Clean the ears with a pet safe ear cleaner if they look dirty. If you see excessive dirt or redness in the ears, or if your poochon is shaking its head or scratching at the ears, schedule a veterinary visit. Exercise Both parent breeds of the poochon are lively and energetic, but poochons are small enough to get enough exercise through one or two daily walks plus playtime with you inside or outdoors. Some poochons are athletic and might enjoy training for dog sports like agility and flyball. Training Like the bichon and poodle, poochons are extremely smart and trainable. Bichons were once famous as circus dogs performing charming tricks, and poodles are considered one of the smartest breeds. Poochons respond readily to positive training methods like clicker training along with tasty treats and other food rewards. Most purebred dogs have specific inherited health issues common to the breed. Crossing bichons with poodles means that poochon puppies are at risk of inheriting any of the genetic diseases found in either breed. The bichon frise is prone to:. Lifespan Sociability Bich-Poos need a significant amount of attention and care as puppies and often grow into dogs that never care to be alone. Most live for around 14 years, but some can get as old as 18! They need light exercise each day making them great dogs for moderately active families. No one can decide on a name for the Bich-Poo. Everyone seems to have an opinion on, or their own name for, this hybrid of the Bichon Frise and Miniature Poodle. These people-oriented little dogs are happiest when they can be around their owner and family as often as possible. They get along well with most children and are friendly with everyone they meet. These companionable lapdogs are also incredibly bright! They learn tricks and obedience training with alacrity and are known for their performative nature. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Bich-Poos are affectionate, sensitive, and genuinely love being around people. They are great with children of all ages and make wonderful playmates for older kids. Do note, however, that children should initially be supervised with a small dog like the Bich-Poo. Kids and dog should get some socialization and learn mutual respect before solo playtime. They have very little hunting instinct, so even relations with cats should go smoothly. It would still be prudent not to try introducing your bunny to your Bich-Poo, however. Even something as innocent as a playful puppy can be too much for small pets and prey animals. As any prey animals knows, better to be overly cautious than dead! Firstly, stick to lean proteins like fowl, fish, and eggs. Avoid fatty meats and excessive grains. Another way to keep your Bich-Poo trim and fit is to break their food portion up into multiple feeding times per day. For bright pups like the Bich-Poo, it can be fun and exciting to add a little variety to the usual meal. Try serving their kibble with a side of cooked, unseasoned pumpkin in the autumn. If left alone or cooped up Bich-Poos, like many dogs, will begin to develop bad behavior to get your attention. Be on the lookout for signs that your Bich-Poo is bored or under-stimulated such as excessive barking or yappiness, whining, chewing on inappropriate items, rooting through the trash, or neurotic behavior like tail chasing. But have no fear, because the Bich-Poo is also one of the most trainable little dogs around! They are fast learners and incredibly eager to please. Consider the amount of exercise it gets and increase or vary if necessary. Talk to your vet or local humane society about finding a reputable trainer. Contact your local pet store and ask if they have dog training classes. Ask if they have classes for dogs and their owners so you can learn more about how to curb aggressive behavior. When a Boxer Dog Won't Listen Stubborn and Strong Willed Boxers Overview It can be very frustrating and distracting to the entire household if a Boxer puppy or older adult dog is not listening to his owner. Many owners assume that their dog will naturally and instinctively listen to them; however, this is not always so. What do you do when you come home and your Boxer is wiggling and jumping all over the place? Keep tasty treats outside the door in a jar, grab a handful of them before you walk in and toss them on the floor when you enter the house. This distracts your dog for long enough for you to get in the house without being trampled as well as breaks the jumping routine and rewards your dog for keeping all four feet on the floor. Pawing and Muzzle Punching These two Boxer behaviors go hand-in-hand because your Boxer is usually doing them for the same reason: attention! As we all know, Boxers are usually very affectionate and can be attention hogs, which I love, but sometimes they become a little pushy about it. I have a great exercise that can help your Boxer build some self-control and teach him that patiently waiting for attention will get him the attention he desires. Begin in a quiet low distraction area. Place medium grade treats in your hand and make a closed fist to present to your dog. Ignore any pawing or muzzle punching from your dog. Once your dog stops pawing or muzzle punching, open your hand full of treats and use your other hand to take a treat to give to your dog. If your dog goes toward the baited hand hand with treats when you open it, simply close it and begin the dog training session again. Continue working on this exercise until you can open your baited hand and reward your dog with each piece of food one at a time, waiting three seconds in between each treat. Sometimes, you like the behaviors in moderation, which is why working on these exercises will help you gain a little more control in these situations. Unfortunately, too often people get boxers for their looks and become frustrated with some of the behavioral issues that are common in the breed- like their world renowned stubbornness! But despite their impressive looks, that has made them popular as guard dogs , boxers are actually very sensitive. They do not respond well to too heavy of a hand, anger, or physical discipline. But with a boxer, physical-focused discipline can become dangerous. Boxers are protective by nature and when handled too roughly, they can sometimes become aggressive towards their owner. In order to achieve the best results in your boxer, provide consistent, gentle discipline and never react to your dog with anger. If you feel that you are having a difficult time controlling your temper with your boxer, it is best to separate yourself from your dog for a time and give yourself time to calm down before you attempt training again. True to their name, boxers have a habit of jumping up and punching with their front feet. This is a breed characteristic that the vast majority of boxers are likely to display. While this behavior may look very cute in a puppy, as your dog gets older, it can become very problematic. A boxer of a year or two of age that has not been taught to keep all four feet on the ground can result in a rambunctious young dog that can accidentally hurt people or knock them over with their punching. Therefore, along with the usual obedience training that you will likely want to teach any powerful, large breed dog, boxers particularly benefit from being trained to have the self-control to resist the urge to box. It is a good idea to train your boxer a command for standing up and punching out with the front feet and a command for keeping their feet on the ground. If your boxer jumps up and boxes at you, your family, or your guests despite being told not to, do not use often recommended techniques like kneeing your boxer in the chest when they jump up. Instead, use a tether or leash to prevent your boxer from displaying the undesirable behavior. However, this is a dog that was bred to have a job to do , and they can occasionally get bored with training. It is not unusual for a boxer to challenge their owner either. Make sure the entire family and anyone else who serves as a caretaker for your boxer also are very consistent in the rules. It is not as important what the rules are as that you stick to them. A boxer that is allowed to get away with things sometimes will quickly learn that they can try to challenge the rules and do things they may or may not be supposed to. Consistency from the time your boxer comes into your home is absolutely essential. If your boxer misbehaves by being overactive, refusing to obey a known command, etc, it is important that they not be allowed to get away with the undesirable behavior. As always, removing your attention is a great way to give your boxer an opportunity to calm down and stop the undesirable behavior and discipline your boxer. Socialize With People The average boxer is extremely good with their family. Boxers are especially known for being wonderful with children. They tend to be patient, tolerant, and protective of their family. On the other hand, when it comes to strangers, boxers are not necessarily as likely to get along well unless they are well-socialized from an early age. Boxers are naturally protective, and they often excel in attack work and as home and personal protection dogs. Introduce your boxer to new people frequently throughout their life. If your boxer shows aggression inappropriately, take your boxer out of the situation and calm them down by crating or tethering them. Boxers that show extreme aggression towards new people despite socialization will benefit from a certified trainer or animal behaviorist. Never punish a boxer for showing aggression by yelling at them, striking them, or handling them roughly. This kind of behavior is most likely to result in an escalation of the negative behavior since your boxer will learn that there really is something to be feared from the new person. Generally, the best way to get a boxer to accept new people is to give them lots of positive reinforcement like affection and plenty of treats when there are new people nearby. This may be especially useful for dogs that begin showing aggression despite regular socialization. Socialize With Other Animals A well-socialized boxer is typically tolerant of other dogs and animals. However, aggression may come out even in well-socialized boxers. Boxers may tend to be more likely to show aggression towards same-sex dogs, so when choosing a companion for your boxer or when picking out playmates for your pup, choosing dogs of the opposite gender is a good idea. Historically, boxers were bred to hunt big game like bear, wild boar, and bison. Boxers also were used for dog fighting until this activity was made illegal. They have also served as cattle dogs. This means that boxers may sometimes show prey drive towards large animals like livestock and aggression towards other dogs. Boxers are less likely to behave inappropriately with livestock or other dogs when they are socialized with them from a young age. However, aggression can come out even in well-socialized dogs. It is always best to socialize boxers with other animals to set them up for success in preventing prey drive from coming out and causing aggressive behavior. For boxers that do develop aggression towards other dogs or animals despite socialization, self-control training is extremely important. Your boxer needs to learn to be in the same area as other animals without showing aggression. Never punish your boxer for showing aggression towards other animals. Punishment may cause your boxer to repress their aggressive behavior, only to have it come out unexpectedly when you may not be able to control your dog. Punishment can also increase frustration, making animal aggression worse instead of better. Instead of punishing your boxer for aggression, take them out of the situation and slowly reintroduce them to it when they have calmed down. Reward your dog for calm behavior at a distance from the trigger and gradually move closer and closer to other dogs or animals, rewarding along and along, until your boxer can be calm in proximity to other dogs or animals. Not every boxer will be able to be trusted loose with other dogs or animals. This is a breed that may not end up doing well at dog parks or loose with livestock. Each boxer is an individual, so carefully observe your boxer as they get older to see what kind of instincts are likely to come out in them. What to do When Your Boxer Misbehaves Knowing how to discipline your boxer in any given circumstance can be a challenge. If they ignore your command, separate yourself from your boxer or tether them so they are unable to perform the behavior. Refusing to comply Boxers can easily get bored with repetitive training and are known to sometimes challenge their owners as well. If your boxer refuses to comply with your command, resist the urge to keep repeating the command or punish your boxer for misbehavior. Instead, give your boxer some time in a crate or on a tether with a chew toy before asking them to behave again. But make sure that the crate or tether are never seen as punishment and simply a break. Aggression towards people or other animals Remove your boxer from a situation in which they are showing inappropriate aggression. Slowly reintroduce them to the trigger, maintaining a substantial distance and rewarding them for calm behavior. Gradually increase the proximity to the trigger. For situations involving severe aggression, seek out the help of an animal behaviorist. Over-excitement Boxers tend to be very energetic dogs, and especially when they are young they may not seem to have the self-control to handle their own excitement levels. If your boxer behaves in an overly excited manner, crate or tether them until they are able to behave calmly. Using a flirt stick is a great way to help your over-excited boxer learn self-control. Testing boundaries It is normal for all young dogs to test their boundaries and see which commands are rock-solid and which they may be able to push. If they are, make sure your boxer is always supervised in these situations and firmly control their ability to misbehave in these ways by using a leash, baby gate, or some other control.
