Like any mixed breed, there is an element of unpredictability when it comes to what a Labradoodle puppy will look like. They can take on a combination of traits from either parent, and even within a single litter, puppies can vary in size and appearance. The list of colors they can come is almost endless. Labradoodle puppies with a Standard Poodle parent typically weigh between 7 and 12 lbs at 8 weeks of age. But miniature Labradoodle puppies may only weigh 4 to 7 lbs. Just like for human babies, sleep is very important for puppies. To help them settle overnight in your home, keep them in a crate or high-sided box by your bed for the first few nights. Potty Training Your 8 Week Old Labradoodle For most people, potty training is the first hurdle when they get home with a new puppy. At 8 weeks old you can expect your Labradoodle to need to pee at least every 2 hours. Young dogs have small bladders, and very little conscious control over when they go. Even the most diligent puppy parents find a few wet spots on their floor at the beginning, but visiting the backyard regularly will keep accidents to a minimum. Be consistent and praise your pup whenever he uses the toilet in the right place. Clean up mistakes quietly and without scolding. They might also overcome that fear by hiding from you to pee indoors. Feed your puppy the same food they had with the breeder for about 2 weeks. Then slowly mix it with the new food, gradually increasing the proportion of new food over the course of a week. For the time being, an 8 week old puppy needs their daily ration of food divided into four meals. But you might use most of it up as training treats! It can also trigger short spell of diarrhea. Small, regular meals prevent hypoglycemia, which is when blood sugar levels become dangerously low. Your pup also needs a food which is designed to meet the specific nutritional needs of growing puppies. This will protect him against conditions like hip dysplasia. Hip dysplasia is a malformation of the hip joint. There are hereditary and environmental factors which can make it worse — and one is if their diet causes their bones to grow faster than the cartilage in between them. An 8 week old Labradoodle will have all their baby teeth, and though tiny, they are very sharp and deliver a painful nip! Wear close fitting clothes in sturdy fabrics, and shoes without laces for the time being. If they try to chew your fingers, take your hands away and give them a suitable substitute like a chew toy. Puppy biting generally ceases at around 6 months once they have all their adult teeth. Crate Training Your 8 Week Old Labradoodle When done properly, crate training provides a safe den for your puppy to rest in. It can also help with toilet training, and keeping your puppy safe while your bring in groceries or take a shower. And 8 weeks old is a great age to start this process. To ensure he views his crate as an inviting place to be, furnish it with a cozy blanket and treats. From 3 weeks old until about 12 weeks old, puppies are in an important phase called the socialization window. They are more open forming positive impressions of the world around them than they ever will be again. So this is the time to introduce them to all the people, places and things they will encounter as adult dogs. Make sure all these introductions are happy lots of treats! And they will carry that happy association with them through the rest of their life. As Your Labradoodle Puppy Grows Labradoodles are known to be sociable, easy-going, devoted, and highly energetic. Training should be positive and consistent. But working out where to start can be bewildering. There are lots of books and online resources available, as well as puppy classes led by qualified dog trainers. Featured Sessions All of my custom pet photo sessions start with a phone call to plan the perfect session for each pet family. No two are ever completely alike, even at the same location! She said that she would love to do her photo session there because it would be such a fitting location for her two hunting dogs, Brittany Spaniels Gauge and Georgia. Both dogs were on leash for their whole session, and it was removed later, in Photoshop. We use a 30 foot lead for running shots like these! She was very concerned that her busy, active hunting dogs could not be off leash, but she really wanted to capture them being active in a natural setting that suited the breed. As you can see, the marsh absolutely delivered all we could have hoped for! It was a stormy evening with dramatic skies and even a rainbow for a little while. The actual rain was considerate enough to wait until we were heading back to our cars at the end of the photo shoot. This is one of my absolute favourite photos from this year. The sunset reflecting on the Shepody River made a perfect backdrop for this happy pair of dogs. The sunset on the river behind Gauge and Georgia almost creates an optical illusion, as though I might have been shooting up at them, with the sky behind them! I do worry about them being too excited to work with. I thought of them as a memorial. All in all, between the beautiful subjects and the incredible light we had out on the marsh that evening, this was one of my favourite sessions of this year. Acrylic top memory boxes like this one are hands down my most popular product. They hold very sturdy, rigid matted prints that are ready to be framed or display as they are on a shelf or small easel. Clients love them because they can get more images from their session, and have the flexibility to rotate which images they display, while storing the others safely. This is a room mock-up, showing the large matted prints this client chose for her walls, as they would look to scale in a room. Many dogs dislike having their feet touched as this can be a very dominant behavior or, they may have had a negative experience in the past. Getting your dog used to having its feet handled is something that is best started in puppyhood. Following are three potentially painful consequences of not trimming their nails. This is especially common if your dog has dewclaws. If they pull hard enough the outer casing of the nail can be ripped off exposing the quick and nerve endings. This can be quite painful and it is common for these types of injuries to become infected. A trip to your local Vet is usually required to treat and in worst cases your dog may need to be sedated so the wound can be cleaned and repaired. The sharp end of the nail pierces through the tough layer of skin over the pads and creates an open, ulcerated wound that is very swollen and painful as well as usually infected. The treatment and prevention for this needless injury is a simple nail trim. Pain management and antibiotics are also typically prescribed. Overgrown Nails Cause Accidents — Dogs use their nails for traction and balance when walking or running. Nails that are too long can cause a dog to slip and fall more easily. Older, arthritic dogs find these changes to be particularly uncomfortable. Nail trimming is a relatively easy way to avoid injury to your pet. If you feel uncomfortable doing it yourself your Veterinarian or Technician would be happy to help you.

Duke If you are up for adventure, then Duke is the dog for you! Duke is a stunning, dark yellow Lab, about 5 years old. He always has that big smile on his face! Duke is no couch potato. Duke loves to play fetch more than anything! He would love an owner who wants to go for hikes, play a good game of ball, maybe take a trip out to the lake. He is a good boy, but would not be an appropriate match for young kids or small dogs, due to his energy level. He will need a home with a fenced yard to play and potty. Duke loves to be with people and is happy to load up in the car for a ride with you. Duke seemed to be afraid of other dogs when he first came into our program. Now he has relaxed and met some nice dogs. He has no fear of them at all anymore. All he really wants is for his person to throw that ball! Duke came to us needing quite a bit of medical care. He is now healthy, with all veterinary care complete and ready to go! Duke is housebroken and does not chew up anything that is not his. Sage is a petite, silver Lab mix. She is about 53 lbs and 2 years old. Sage was so frightened at the local shelter and we just couldn't leave her there. Now Sage is blossoming in her foster home! Sage is a bit timid and will hold on to people that she trusts with both front feet. Once she has a chance to see that she is safe, she runs and does zoomies around the yard! Sage is more of a follower than a leader and gets pretty attached to women. We will be looking for a home with another medium to large dog for her to play with. She would probably love kids to play with. Sage is crate trained, house broken and healthy. She has been spayed, on heartworm prevention, has all of her vaccinations and is microchipped. Once you have decided on a litter, you will be placed on the website with your pick of the litter placement and deposit date. Heatherdowns Labradors may need to move a person into a litter who did not receive a pup on a previous litter who may have a deposit prior to you. At times, this 'right to reserve' may affect the pick position. What are Heatherdowns Labradors Policies? We understand that family situations and circumstances may change. Should that happen, and you are not able to take delivery of your puppy from a specific litter, your deposit may be applied to a future litter. Your Deposit is refundable within 1 year from your Deposit Date, if we have not be able to produce a pup for you based on color or gender. Your Deposit is also refundable within 1 year from your Deposit Date, if your circumstances have changed and can no longer take in a puppy. If you place a deposit with us, and in the meantime obtain a pup elsewhere, we are unable to refund your deposit. If, a deposit is determined to be refundable, an administrative fee will be deducted. Both registrations are AKC. A Limited Registration is for those families who have no intent to breed their dog in the future, and purchase their puppy as a family, hunting, or therapy companion. Limited Registrations do not allow for future litters to be registered with the AKC. Limited Registration does allow for a pup to participate and gain points in AKC events such as hunt tests, field trails, and dock events. A Conformation Event Dog Show is the only event a Limited Registered dog is unable to participate in, or gain points in that category. Litter owners Breeders generally offer Limited Registration in order to protect their breeding programs. Too many Labrador Lovers at once can be a little chaotic.
