These breeders have met certain standards of care and breeding and are more likely to be responsible than those who are not members of a club. Ask the breeder about their experience with French Bulldogs. It will also give you a chance to ask questions about the breed and the puppies. Visiting your breeder in person will also help you to determine if the breeder is responsible and ethical. If the breeder seems disinterested in the puppies or unwilling to answer your questions, it may be best to look elsewhere. A reputable French bulldog breeder will have healthy dogs and plenty of information about the breed. They will also be willing to provide references from previous buyers. Reputable breeders often have long waiting lists. They should also have health certificates for both the parents and the puppies. One of the most important things to look for when choosing a French bulldog breeder is whether or not the puppies are raised in a home environment. A reputable Missouri French bulldog breeder should have their puppies raised in a home environment, where they are socialized and handled often. If the breeder you are considering does not have their puppies raised in a home environment, it is best to avoid them. Puppies that are not raised in a home environment are more likely to be shy or aggressive. Some warning signs include: Breeders who are only interested in making money and not in the welfare of their animals. Breeders who do not health test their animals or allow prospective buyers to do so. Breeders who have a lot of puppies available and are not willing to place them with carefully screened homes. Breeders who are not registered with the AKC or any other legitimate breed registry. It is important to remember that not all breeders are created equal. How to Prepare Your Home for Your French Bulldog Puppy When you bring your French bulldog puppy home, there are a few things that you will need to do to prepare your home for him. You will need to provide your puppy with a safe place to sleep and play. The best place for this is in an exercise pen or a small room that can be blocked off from the rest of the house. You will also need to provide your puppy with plenty of toys and chew bones to keep him occupied. Be sure to provide fresh water and food at all times. In order to potty train your French bulldog puppy, you will need to set up a designated area outside where he can go potty. Be sure to praise your puppy when he goes potty in the correct area. It is also important to keep your puppy up-to-date on his vaccinations and to take him to the vet for regular check-ups. If you are not prepared to handle the energy of a French bulldog puppy, it is best to reconsider adopting one. Daily walks and plenty of playtime are essential for keeping your French bulldog puppy happy and healthy. If you do not have enough time to devote to a dog, it is best to adopt an older dog that does not require as much exercise. The best way to do this is by establishing a routine and sticking to it. Toilet training usually involves taking your puppy to the designated potty area outside several times a day and praising him when he goes potty in the correct spot. Be sure to keep an eye on your puppy so that you can take him outside as soon as he has finished going potty. If you catch your puppy having an accident inside, do not punish him. Simply clean up the mess and put him in the designated potty area immediately. This will help him learn where he is supposed to go potty. It may take a little bit of time, but with patience and consistency, you will be able to successfully potty train your French bulldog puppy. The Benefits of Purchasing A French Bulldog from A Reputable Breeder When you purchase a French bulldog from a reputable breeder, you are getting a dog that has been bred for good health and temperament. I attended the Bulldog Nationals and watched with keen interest all of the top bulldogs in the US compete for the Best of Breed title. Shortly thereafter there was a post and discussion in one of the bulldog forums I was a member of regarding a particular European bulldog Ch. Valleybull Silver Sailor at Merriveen. He was one of the most beautiful bulldogs I had ever laid eyes on! So, I started researching and studying the European bloodlines and fell in love with many of their dogs. What I noticed was that while the US bloodlines seem to have better top lines and shorter backs, the European bloodlines tend to have better heads, tails and more bone and substance. By incorporating both the US and European bloodlines into our breeding program, I am aiming to get the best from both worlds. I am very proud of our most recent addition, coming all the way from Spain, Ch. Valley Bulls Burton. Welcome to the Missouri state page on TrustedPuppies. As a medium to large breed, Labrador Retrievers need at least one year to reach their full size. A general rule of thumb suggests your Lab should be at or close to its full size by their first birthday. However, bigger-boned Lab puppies can keep growing and filling out their chest up to 18 months old. How big should a 6-month-old Labrador Retriever be? The average Lab weight at six months old is about 40 to 55 pounds for males or 30 to 35 pounds for females. Please keep in mind that these numbers are averages, and every puppy will grow at a slightly different rate. How much bigger will my Labrador Retriever get? There are three ways to predict the size of a Labrador Retriever at maturity: Age. Labrador Retrievers typically reach their full height and weight around their first birthday. Larger Labs may need up to 18 months to fill out their chest, but any weight gain after 12 months should be minimal overall. If your Lab is less than a year old, they are likely still growing and putting on muscle to reach their adult size. Paw Size. If their paws look oversized next to their legs and body, then they are probably still growing, as this is a classic puppy feature. Lastly, if you purchased your Lab through a breeder, you can contact them for a more exact height and weight estimate. What is the size of a full-grown Labrador Retriever? A full-grown Labrador Retriever weighs between 65 and 80 pounds and stands about .The average weight of a full-grown female Labrador Retriever should be about 55 to 70 pounds, standing at .Make sure to consult with your veterinarian to ensure that your Lab is maintaining a healthy weight for its body size. English nobles spotted the dogs and brought them home across the Atlantic, where breeders continued to refine the breed into its own variation. Between their friendly demeanor, adaptability, and outgoing disposition, they make ideal family members. As cherished members of our families, Labs deserve the best care. Unfortunately, like many other purebred dogs, Labrador Retrievers are more susceptible to various health issues. Some of the most common examples include:. Dubai Once again 'Humiiation at the Paws of your Labrador'.I know it well, many of us do! You are right at the time where your puppy training ,which has been going extremely well suddenley seems to have been completely forgotten and the Teenager version of your dog emerges. This is the time where you really need to stick harder than ever with your training. They are getting more independent at they same time as they are getting bigger and stronge and it can be really challenging. I went to a second set of basic obedience classes at this age just practice focus around distractions. We haven't got children so it was very easy to follow advice I was given about keeping temptation out of reach. When he did make off with something we didn't make a game of it,we just swapped for a treat.Sorry you were embarrassed at class but truly it's so common albeit frustrating when you KNOW they can do the excercise perfectly. Are you working with food rewards? If so I would really up the ante in the rewards ,take something super tasty and when Dexter used to decide not to cooperate I just used to move away from the rest of the dogs to where we had more space, ergo less distraction and try and get his focus back there before moving closer again. Good luck, keep, with it,she sounds a lovely dog x. Puppy training development after 6 months It is very tempting to get carried away with puppy training. Your young do is so willing to please and such fun to be around. It is important to go at a happy pace for you both. Positive reinforcement training is the right choice for your puppy because there are no negative consequences to getting something wrong. But you can still both suffer from burnout and frustration if you try to reach the later puppy training stages without totally aceing the earlier developments. Your Puppy Training Schedule This may not be exactly the same for each puppy, especially with retrieving which is more Labrador specific. However, it gives you a rough idea. Constantly changing direction. Stopping frequently for cuddles and rewards. This means I blow the recall whistle whenever the puppy runs towards me, no compulsion, and no whistle unless the recall is already underway. Socialisation: Lots almost daily of outings to different places rural and urban carried Visits to family and friends. Bite inhibition: Discourage hard biting, allow mouthing. Working with food: Learning how to take food gently without snatching or grabbing at the treat pot. I still give the puppy lots of encouragement by running away as soon as I blow the whistle. Socialisation: More socialisation, at least twice a week to busy public places. Bite inhibition: Discourage hard biting, allow gentle mouthing. Retrieving: Encourage chase and pick up retrieve drive. Hand touch: I teach all new puppies to touch my hand with their noses. This is a great foundation for other skills. Recall: Puppy recall continues, reduce my run to a walk, avoid any distractions. Still frequently blow the recall whenever the pup runs towards me of her own free will. Socialisation: From ground level after vaccination. No other leash walking at all Bite inhibition: No biting, gentle mouthing allowed. Retrieving: Continue to build drive. Positions: I introduce three positions — sit, stand, down. What to expect from your 3 month old puppy Most three month old puppies will be sleeping through the night. And will be having less potty training accidents in the house. There are a few potty training problems that arise at this age, and they are all covered in 15 potty training problems solved. Biting is a big shock and a big problem for many new Lab puppy parents so do check out our complete guide to biting , and join the forum for help and support. Help encourage your puppy to stay in their bed while you are eating. I have a pot of dog treats on our kitchen table, and whenever we sit down to a meal, the puppy gets a treat each time she steps into her basket. Just a treat for stepping in there. What to expect from your 4 month old puppy Your 4 month old puppy will be pretty much potty trained, but accidents still happen if they are left alone too long. Biting is usually starting to subside now, and many four month old puppies will be able to mouth at your hand without hurting you. At this point I start to discourage all mouthing. I teach every puppy to let me touch her face or approach her with my hand, food, a leash etc while holding eye contact and not grabbing at me, or at what is in my hand. This is the age at which people often start to push forward with training. Your 4 month old puppy is capable of quite a lot. There is nothing wrong with teaching your puppy different cues and even some tricks. I recommend you still avoid long duration activities at this point as they are a common stumbling point with puppies young enough to have a short attention span. A ten second sit is ample. Add mild distractions Recall: Fade additional cues. Begin to whistle the pup and stand still. Add mild distractions. Clicker train to polish this in more mouthy puppies. No commands are needed for this. Gradual introduction of distractions. Advanced puppy training begins in earnest This is where I start a programme of sporting training with my Labs. You can begin raising your standards and expectations, asking for longer and more complex behaviors. Teaching your puppy to walk to heel nicely for longer distance and past all kinds of distractions and temptations. Or teaching your puppy to sit and stay for longer periods of time, and even while you go out of sight or while other dogs play nearby. What to expect from your six month old puppy Six months is a common time for people to have a lot of questions and to be struggling with a few challenges. This is now a very bouncy, quite powerful and rapidly maturing young dog. And you may need to patch up a few holes in his training or manners. We have a great article for owners of six month old Lab puppies. Can you tell how big a puppy will get? Your puppy will be growing very fast when you first bring them home. But that growth rate slows down quite quickly. So when do dogs stop growing for good? And how will you know when your puppy has reached their adult size? Labrador Puppy Growth Chart We have a fascinating and long running thread on our forum, where members enter the weights of their puppies at different ages. The Labrador growth chart below shows the data we have collected, in a Labrador weight chart by age. Labrador dog weight chart by age and breed Each dot represents a snapshot in time of an individual puppy. You can find his or her age in weeks along the bottom of the chart and his weight in pounds up the left hand side. You can see how all the dots taken together follow a pattern, but there is still a considerable range of puppy weights at each age. When Do Dogs Stop Growing? But what about a two year old Lab, or a one year old? Well, in broad terms, dogs stop growing sometime between one and two years old. But it varies between breeds. Most dogs are fully grown by their first birthday. In general small breeds reach their adult height several months before large breeds do. Yet dog size varies greatly among individuals, even within the same breed. Larger dogs are often slower to mature than little dogs, and carry on growing for longer. Small dogs are sometimes fully grown by the time they are 9 months old. Whereas giant breeds can take up to three years to reach full size. Adult size, temperament, and coat type are all likely to affect energy requirements, and affect the rate a puppy grows. In fact even breeds which end up similar in size can grow at very different rates. There is very little scientific research — but a lot of anecdotal evidence — about when Lab puppies stop growing. In , a UK study following 37 Lab puppies through to adulthood revealed that all of them had reached their adult weight by their first birthday. But more recently, a much larger lifestyle study of over 4, UK Labradors found that their weight continued to increase between one and four years old. When Do Labs Stop Growing? The Labrador puppy growth chart finishes when the dog reaches adulthood. General wisdom from breeders, vets, and experiences Labrador owners is that Labs stop growing during their second year. In fact, he will be quite close to his final adult Labrador height at around nine months of age. Does color change the Labrador puppy growth chart? When is a chocolate Lab full grown? Is it the same time that a full grown black Labrador or yellow Lab? So your average chocolate Lab will be adult sizes at the same time as the average yellow or black Lab. How Quickly Do Labradors Grow? Our Labrador puppy growth chart shows that all Labrador puppies follow the same breed specific pattern of growth spurts and slower growth, even though the actual numbers on the scale will vary from individual to individual. The most rapid period of growth will take place in the first month or so after you bring him home. In , a study of Labrador puppies in Norway found that Labrador weight gain is most rapid at 89 days old in females, and 95 days old in males. So around the week mark. And Labradors usually reach half of their adult weight by the time they are 18 or 19 weeks old. How much do Labs grow after 6 months? Another trend you can see in our Labrador puppy growth chart is that Lab puppies gain weight much less rapidly after their 6 month birthday. Once your Lab has hit this milestone you can expect them to gain a little height, and probably continue to fill out for up to a year or so. In other words, the point when you Lab stops getting any taller. It is estimated that in the UK the average height at the shoulders of a male Lab is cm taller than the breed standard. Will my dog still grow after being neutered? Whether or not dogs should be routinely spayed or neutered is a subject which divides opinion. Labrador owners deciding whether and when to neuter usually end up with a lot of questions, few of which have straightforward answers. Many veterinary care providers and shelters advocate neutering at a young age, or even make it a requirement of the adoption contract. A study found that neutering before 37 weeks old is linked to very slightly more rapid growth, and neutering after 37 weeks leads to very slightly slower growth. How big do Labrador Retrievers get? As we all know, very few dogs fit the mathematical average — they are much more likely to occupy a range of normal sizes. But most of us like a more precise answer than that before we commit to sharing our home with a puppy. So, how big do Labs get? Labradors are remarkably variable in height and weight. The biggest male Labs can be almost twice the size of the smallest female ones. But you want me to give you some numbers, so here are some averages. Many adult female Labradors reach a weight of lbs and stand inches high at the shoulder. This will be the same whether they are a female chocolate Lab or a female black Labrador. Many adult male Labradors reach a weight of lbs and stand inches at the shoulder. But remember, your dog is probably not an average dog! Can you always predict size with a Labrador puppy growth chart? These Labrador height and weight numbers are very broad guidelines, and they may give you a rough idea of how big a pup will grow. How big your Labrador will get depends partly on his parents. Assuming that your puppy had healthy not overweight parents, their own weights will give you an idea of how big your Lab is likely to grow. But there are always surprises in any group or family of dogs! Has your puppy stalled on the Labrador puppy growth chart? It is possible that your puppy will weigh less than the average examples. Labrador puppy weight and size can vary widely depending on a number of different factors, many of which are normal and harmless. American Labrador puppy growth Labrador puppies from working stock are often less heavy than those bred for the show ring or pet homes. Dogs bred for hunting and field trials tend to be faster and lighter in build because they are expected to be agile and quick when working in the field. Small parents Size is also partly genetic. In other words, if your puppy had small parents he might well be on the small size for his age, throughout his life. Again, this is only a general guide. Even puppies from the same litter can vary quite considerably in size when plotted on a Labrador puppy growth chart. How much should my Labrador puppy weigh? But this kind of rule of thumb is of limited use, and there are problems with judging whether or not a puppy is thriving by his weight alone. Because it is so difficult to know exactly what size your puppy will be as an adult, no-one can really say what he should weigh today, or any other day. It may however give you an indication if your puppy is seriously under or overweight. It is rare for puppies to have any kind of growth disorder. Or for their families to starve them by mistake! But it is also normal to worry a little if your puppy seems on the small side. Is my puppy is too fat or too thin? The very best guide to whether a puppy is the right weight for him, is how he looks and feels. Not where he falls on an average Labrador puppy growth chart. Physically examining and observing your puppy will help you decide if they are doing ok in this respect. Just like older Labradors, puppies should not be too heavy. Most experts nowadays like to see a waist on even quite young puppies. Does it matter if my puppy is a bit plump? We all used to think that puppy fat was a good thing. When I was a child fat puppies were the norm. Perhaps this extra layer of fat was helpful in sustaining the puppy during illness before vaccinations were widely available for dogs? Nowadays, the thinking is that puppies should be slim. With a defined waist, just like an older dog. It causes their bones to grow too rapidly as well. And this may result in painful skeletal abnormalities in later life. Chubby Lab puppies might be plotted higher than average on the Labrador puppy growth chart, but if they are a shorter stature they could be following the line. You need to assess your pup by how they look and feel. Weighing your puppy If your puppy has been ill and is very thin, or if he has become rather overweight , you might consider weighing him in order to monitor his progress on a Labrador puppy growth chart of your own. If you can see his ribs, or feel them very easily just beneath his skin, your Labrador puppy is too thin. If in doubt, check with your veterinarian. You can show them your Labrador puppy growth chart too, so they have a good idea of how they are progressing. My dog weighs 35lbs at six months old. Is that OK? I mentioned above that an average Labrador might weigh around 50lbs at six months old. But there is huge variation around this figure. To illustrate how much very healthy puppies may vary, there are 6 month old Labs on our forum weighing 30lbs, and others weighing 60lbs! These are very different points on the same Labrador puppy growth chart, but could both be healthy animals. And the truth is, no-one can tell you exactly what your six month old pup should weigh, or indeed your Labrador of any age. What age does a puppy turn into a dog? When does a puppy no longer belong on a Labrador puppy growth chart but instead have reached their adult size? And when will your puppy be a fully grown up dog? There are three aspects to changing from puppy to dog: physical maturity and mental maturity. Sexual maturity in puppies People are often surprised to discover that puppies become sexually mature before they are full grown. These sexually mature pups still belong on the Labrador puppy growth chart, and will gain weight and height. Most Labradors are physically capable of breeding while still puppies. Though of course they should not be allowed to do so. Many female Labradors come into season for the first time between at between six and nine months old. Though some will be over a year old. And most male Labradors are ready and willing to mate well before their first birthday! Mental maturity in puppies Not only is your Labrador physically still a puppy when he or she reaches sexual maturity. He is also very much a puppy mentally and emotionally. In fact, many experts do not consider a Labrador to be fully grown up and mature until they are around two years old. In practice, there is no exact age at which you can definitely say your puppy is a grown up. Some puppies mature mentally and physically quicker than others. As a broad guide, you will often hear people use 18 months as the divide between Labrador puppy and adult dog. When do dogs stop growing? Most Labradors will have completed much of their growth by their first birthday and will stop growing completely before their second. Beyond this point there is no need to plot their weight on a Labrador puppy growth chart, but instead they should just be monitored physically. Weights vary greatly among individuals of this breed and puppy weight unless very extreme, is not a great guide to health. Enjoy your puppy for what he is, large Labrador or small. Just remember to check with your vet if you think he is unwell or not growing as he should. Is your Labrador puppy still growing? Do you think the runt of the litter is going to surprise you by reaching the upper end of the scale? Were your predictions at X months completely confounded? Share your anecdotes in the comments box down below! We'd like to know more about you all, such as his name, and when you can, post some photos. I agree that getting him into a training class should be helpful to you, not only to help learn how to teach him things but to have a resource who can see him and offer specific suggestions. Your wife's involvement in his care and training is so, so important. If you find another training class, it might be a good idea for her to take him to the classes so she learns to be more comfortable giving him commands and learning how to reinforce good behavior. I'll include some info for you to look over and try at home but having someone you can talk to who can see your pup and offer assistance can be super helpful. As for the whining and growling when your wife is near you, that sounds like what is called "resource guarding". You are his resource and he does not want your wife to interfere with his resource. It can happen with food, toys, and as you can see, people. This obviously isn't a good long term behavior. My first suggestion is not to allow him to sit on your lap or lean against you, however much you find this endearing. Don't let him onto the sofa or bed at all while he's learning the ropes and do not get down on the floor with him so he can sit on your lap or lean against you. By allowing him to chase your wife away, you are reinforcing to him that he is the boss of her, and of you for that matter. You are also silently communicating to your wife that you're OK with this, as you've mentioned a couple of times that it bothers her more than it bothers you. I'd make sure he learns how to "down" and "stay" and give him a place in the room where you are where he can go to lie down yet stay within sight of you guys. It could be a bed, a small rug, or a crate, but it should be a well defined spot that he learns is where he should be. You might start doing some investigation of resource guarding and what to do about it, often having a trainer come in to your home to help you is recommended. This is another way to help the dog learn that the house, the sofa, his food, his toys, yourself are controlled by you and, importantly, by your wife. These are just some introductory articles that might get you started. If so, during the times when he has been outside to go to the bathroom, play for a while, and he's had food and water and he's still acting like a nut, sometimes they just get overstimulated and putting them in their crate for some rest for both yourself and for him can calm him down and give him some rest. Not all dogs are good about regulating their own activity. Having a bazillion toys from which to choose can be also too stimulating for them. If you haven't done any crate training, let us know, there are tricks and techniques folks can help you with, you want the crate to be a safe and happy place for him to spend time, not a jail where he gets locked up every time he's in trouble. How long have you had this guy? If you've had him a few months and have been working on potty training, I'd ditch the pee pads today. I never use them at all and suspect it gives the young pup the idea that it's OK to go inside the house, not to mention when they decide to rip them to shreds and you have to clean that up. If you have him on a pretty good schedule for going outside to the bathroom, he's old enough that during the day he should be good to hold it for 8 hours or a little more if you both work outside the home. Some dogs are definitely more stubborn about learning not to go inside the house, you have to be pretty stubborn yourself and get him on a good schedule. If he's already pee'd on carpeting or rugs, make sure to clean the areas with an enzyme cleaner meant for dogs, such as Nature's Miracle, to eliminate any scent that might trigger him go in the same spot again. If he pees in the house while you're out, that's another time that being in a crate can keep him and your house safe. At 8 months, he's like an adolescent and many pups around that age seem to forget any training they already had anyway. Keep at it, be consistent, firm, and fair. Stay around and let us know how things go- he's still young and needs your guidance.

Buying Guide When it comes to finding the best toys for poodles, there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure that you are choosing the right product for your furry friend. Here are some key features to consider when your are buying best toys for poodles Size One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a toy for your poodle is the size. You want to make sure that the toy is appropriately sized for your dog. If the toy is too small, it could pose a choking hazard, while a toy that is too large may be difficult for your poodle to play with. Look for toys that are specifically designed for small or medium-sized dogs. Material The material of the toy is also an important consideration. Look for toys made from high-quality materials, such as rubber or nylon. Avoid toys that are made from cheap, flimsy materials that can easily break or tear. Functionality Consider what your poodle likes to do when choosing a toy. Some poodles love to play fetch, while others prefer toys that they can chew on. Look for toys that are designed for the specific activities that your poodle enjoys. Interactive Features Toys with interactive features can provide great mental stimulation for your poodle. Look for toys that have hidden treats, puzzles, or other interactive elements that will keep your poodle entertained and engaged. Safety Finally, safety should always be a top priority when choosing a toy for your poodle. Avoid toys with small parts that could be swallowed or toys with sharp edges that could cause injury. Always supervise your poodle when playing with toys to ensure that they are playing safely. By considering these factors, you can choose the best toys for your poodle that will provide hours of fun and entertainment while keeping them safe and healthy. I have a miniature Poodle named Olive. Pets are my passion and I love to share knowledge through writing blogs. About Us I'm Emma Olson, and love dogs so much, especially poodles. Pets are my passion and I work in the world of corporate pets. I worked at three different pet stores for about six years total and now volunteer at my local animal rescue. I love animals very much! While waiting for their forever homes, I like to volunteer to provide them with care in my spare time. What is a small dog toy and does your pup need one? At first, this might not seem like a compelling reason to buy one, until you consider this: Most dog products are made for medium to large-sized dogs. And because of this, small breeds like Shih Tzus and Pugs need their own special dog toys. A German Shepherd, for example, is basically a fur-covered ball of muscle. Compare this with your Chihuahua. Yep, two fingers are all you need to out-muscle these tiny pups. This is important to consider as some toys, especially hard-rubber chew toys designed for aggressive chewers, are surprisingly heavy. In fact, the heaviest dog toy we reviewed weighs a whopping 2 pounds. Far too heavy for a small dog to lift. The size of the toy also makes carrying it difficult. See that couch in your living room? We both know that your mini pup loves to climb up. Like Simba from the Lion King, perched atop pride rock, your dog has an amazing view of the entire room — much better than the sight of your ankles while he is down on the floor. What better place to play with your favorite dog toy? To you and me, sitting on a couch is simple. Small dogs have small mouths. It is for this reason that any toy you buy your dog should be small enough to carry easily. Dragging that oversized toy around your home is going to get old, and your tiny pup will quickly look for something more fun to do. And, it goes without saying that the toy you give to your pocket-sized pup needs to be durable. Toy Chihuahuas have small-dog syndrome. I am convinced that if Chihuahuas were the same size as a large dog, they would be the most aggressive dog on Earth. Those tiny jaws are capable of dishing out some serious damage. Plush toys, in particular, are easily shredded by the sharp teeth of small dogs. In fact, any toy that breaks is particularly dangerous to small breeds. You see… Small dogs also have small mouths and airways. A small piece of rubber or torn fabric from a broken toy can easily become a choking hazard. As always, if you notice that your pocket-sized pup has broken a toy, dispose of it immediately. Small dog toys are designed to address all these issues. Safe, light-weight and easy-to-carry, these toys are the perfect present for the miniature pooch in your life. Best toys for small dogs It might surprise you to learn that there are hundreds of small dog toys available to choose from. While some are amazing, others are downright terrible. Today, I share the best of the best. The small dog toys that outclassed all others. It was tough, but we narrowed the winners down to just 6 toys — each unique in their own way. Best squeaky toy for small dogs Squeaky Fun! The 6 Best Types of Toys for a Poodle Overview If you think of dog toys as needing to serve as tools to meet a Poodle's needs, you may be surprised at how amazingly helpful they can be. The right toys can help a great deal with everything from teething woes, to negative behavior associated with boredom. In addition, toys can serve as a method of creating a closer bond with your Poodle, encourage activity in an otherwise sedentary dog, and even boost a Poodle's brain power. Here we will take a look at the 6 types of toys every Poodle should have to meet a wide variety of canine needs. Teething begins by 3 to 4 months old and lasts until the 7 to 8 month mark. During this time, there are incredible amounts of itching and most puppies feel some level of discomfort. This causes an overwhelming need to chew to soothe those teething woes. For these reasons, one of the best things that you can do is find the right toys for your teething Poodle puppy. Qualities of effective teething toys: The oral sensations that a puppy feels can move from moment to moment. Discomfort waxes and wanes. And itching can come in waves. So, toys need to be very versatile. The best toys will have: A variety of surface textures. Cloth, rope, and hard rubber should be available to meet chewing urges at any one particular time. Rope toys are especially helpful, as the twisted strands are good 'scratchers'. Small nubs. This is of particular importance; tiny nubs work to massage gums which helps the pup feel better. A puppy needs to be able to manipulate the toy into different parts of his mouth. Proper sizing. This is most relevant to toy Poodles, since many dog teething toys are sized too big for a tiny toy's mouth. If a Poodle puppy cannot instantly find relief, he may move onto something else.Recommended teething toys: Below are our 1 most recommended toys for Poodle pups that are in the throes of teething. The first 3 are for toy Poodles, though larger options can be found for miniatures and standards. The Nylabone is just one example of great teething chews that are flavored to entice a puppy to mouth them and come in a wide range of sizes, to accommodate all Poodle varieties. If you do not see the images, try a refresh. On mobile, you may need to turn the screen horizontal to see all 4. And if this describes your Poodle, no doubt you have had a hard time finding the right toys that will stand up to aggressive chewing. A dog's urge to chew is not limited to toys; with this type of drive, nothing is off limits. If a Poodle is not happy with his toys, one of two things will happen: 1 the dog will move on to other objects in the house, which is not only destructive but also unsafe or 2 the dog will become irritable and stressed as he's unable to satisfy his urges. Qualities of the best toys for strong chewers: To meet your Poodle's needs, the goal will be to provide fun chew toys that are specifically designed to handle aggressive chewers. While no toy is literally indestructible, some come very close. The toy will need to: Be able to stand up to high bite force. Be safe - A great feature to look for is a color indicator that the toy has been chewed down too far. Some toys are guaranteed, meaning that if a color starts to show, you'll get a free replacement. Fun - If it does not have the right texture and pliability to feel good in a Poodle's mouth, it'll be of no use. Recommended toys for Poodles that are super aggressive chewers: For this, both Kongs and Doughnuts are the two best options, with Kongs being the best for toy Poodles images are below. Kongs are great because they come in a wide range of sizes that will be appropriate for toys, minis, and standards. These are color coded, with pink and blue for puppies, red for 'normal' adult chewers, and black is reserved for the strongest chewers. In other words, a puppy would never be able to bite down on a black Kong dog toy and an aggressive chewer could tear up a pink one. The 'classic' Kong is designed to be filled with treats or kibble, which draws a dog to it and encourages him to stay focused. If your Poodle likes to chew, but has not shown a history of shredding toys to bits, you may find that the Kong 'minimally stuffed' chew toys are well received. These are also great because they come in all sizes from small to large. Goughnuts are colored coded as well, with yellow, orange, and green for strong chewers PSI and black reserved for professional grinders at a whopping PSI. What is great about these is that they are guaranteed. Each has red in the middle. If you see even a tiny spot of red, you may return the toy for just the cost of shipping out a new one. There are 3 sizes as well; but these will be a bit too large for most toy Poodles. Toys are shown below. And in this sense, thinking of toys as 'stay busy' tools can make a huge difference in your Poodle's happiness level. When a puppy or dog is just sitting around without anything to do, he will reach a limit where boredom turns into frustration. And where monotony turns into depression. If your Poodle has been too bored, you may not even realize it until you hand over a super-fun, interactive toy and see him perk up. Alternatively, some Poodles are very expressive about how they feel. It must be noted that regular exercise plays a role in this as well. If your Poodle is not taken out twice per day for at least minute sessions, even the best of toys may not fix his woes. So, a good balance of getting outside for walks and offering the right toys during down-time is the best fix. Qualities of the best toys to fix boredom and keep a Poodle occupied: You'll want toys that will be perfect for both when a Poodle is home alone and also when you are home but cannot interact with your Poodle at the moment. These toys should: Allow a Poodle to play fully independently; you will not need to do anything else other than point out the toy if you are there. Call out to the puppy or dog. A huge aspect is that the toy interacts with the dog. In this way, playing is a two-way street. The dog noses the toy, the toy responds. The dog chews the toy, the toy reacts. This type of element can keep a dog busy for a long time, basically until he's completely tuckered out. Recommended 'stay busy' toys for Poodles: There ares some incredibly fun options. The Babble Balls toys are out of this world; these are super interactive toys that can keep a puppy or dog amused and busy for hours. There are 3 sizes small for toys, medium for minis, and large for standard Poodles. Also, there are two fun types. One lets out animal noises. So, as a Poodle touches the toy, engaging sounds like pigs, frogs, bears, birds, even other dogs speak to him. There are 20 different animal sounds in all. The other is just as wonderful. It lets out funny phrases such as 'Come here, puppy! There are 20 amusing, encouraging phrases in all. For both of these, the toys automatically shut off when not in use, so the batteries do not run out. The Look Who's Taking line of toys is super fun as well. There are over 15 different types of stuffed animals, and each one makes a corresponding animal noise. These are good sized quality toys that stand up to daily playing. The size of these toys range from 5" the baby chick to 7" the cow and a bunch in between. There is a parrot, frog, rooster, monkey, goat, lobster, and more. These toys are shown below. These serve two purposes in one swoop. As an added benefit, if you place your Poodle's food in this sort of toy on days that you are not home, it helps prevent bloat, a dangerous health condition fast eating is a common trigger , which is a top concern for standard Poodles and is always something to be aware of no matter what type or size dog you have. Qualities of great treat-release toys: There are a few aspects to keep in mind. For this type of toy to do its job, it should: Hold in treats enough that they are not released too easily, but at the same time allow a Poodle to smell them in order to trigger a response. Be designed to work with a variety of different dog treats so that you are not forced to purchase additional treats. Be made with safe materials. Be durable to stand up to daily use. Be easy to clean since you'll want to be able to rinse away food particles. Be sized correctly. It's not uncommon for owners of toy Poodles to have trouble finding treat dispensing toys for their tiny dogs, so for these Poodles, it must fit the needs of dogs 10 lbs. Recommended treat dispensing toys for toy, mini and standard Poodles: There are some great options for all Poodles images below. Busy Buddy makes two treat release toys. The barnacle toy is perfect for toy Poodles, even puppies. It is composed of 3 tiny separate spheres, so toy Poodle can easily mouth onto one of them at a time. If you like the looks of this one, but don't have a toy Poodle, no worries. The other type is the twist sphere, which is adjustable, so you can control how easy or hard it is for your Poodle to get to the treats. This comes in small for dogs 8 to 20 lbs. The IQ Treat Ball is a great toy for toy Poodles on the larger end, minis and standards; this is available in both 3 and 4 inch diameters. It's a neat little sphere that is adjustable and releases food as it's nudged which encourages a dog to move. The Bob-A-Lot is a good-sized toy that is best suited for mini and standard Poodles. This has a large chamber that holds a full meal, and its bright color and wobbly movements make eating fun. Distress and even panicking when owners are away is referred to as separation anxiety, and this is not uncommon with dogs. In fact, it may be even more so with breeds like the Poodle due to their instinctive sensitivity and close human bonding. So, while all toys are important in their own way, perhaps the one type that can make the most dramatic impact on a Poodle is a companion toy. These will mimic a living creature to become an instant friend. With this, a dog is no longer alone. In addition, it would be remiss to not mention webcam devices that allow you to interact with your Poodle when you're not there. These are quite amazing, though are not fitting for those on a tight budget. Qualities of best companion toys: There's no competition here and there's no comparing. The very best ones are Smart Pets; these are good-sized quality stuffed animals that emit a rhythmic, soothing heartbeat. This alone instantly swoops away heavy feelings of isolation. In addition, is an option to send out a comforting warmth. This is as close as you can get to giving your Poodle a companion without obtaining another dog, and these are just marvelous. Qualities of the best pet webcams: Not very long ago, there were some sparse choices for this; however, the features where quite limited. Now, there's some truly amazing devices. While these can be a bit pricey, if you really want to go all out and come the absolute closest you can to being with your Poodle when you're not with him, the webcam will: Have two-way audio so that you can both speak to your Poodle and hear any barking in response. Have a wide-angle view and night vision, so that you can clearly see your puppy or dog at all times and under any sort of lighting though it is always recommended to keep lights on for a dog that's home alone. Easily sync to your smartphone Hold a good number of treats, so that the interaction can be frequent and extended. Toss treats out with a tap on your phone, and at a good distance to make it clear that you're playing with your Poodle. Our 1 recommend companion toys and a super-neat interactive webcam are below. If you don't see the images, try a refresh. On mobile, you may need to turn your screen horizontal to see all 4. It's what they live for. So, no matter how busy the day may get, the best thing you can do for your Poodle is to make time each day to play. It can be as little as 15 minutes, and it will mean the world. And do not discount older adults and even seniors. The need to hold onto bonds is stronger than ever. However, it's not uncommon for a Poodle to need something colorful and interesting to get really involved with a game of fetch. You'll want it to be durable and importantly the right size so that your Poodle can easily mouth it. Another option that is great to play on rainy days are puzzle games. With this, you work together as a teacher and student. You'll teach your Poodle how to nose levers and paw buttons to find hidden treats. There is something to be said about the Poodle ranking 2 in intelligence ; this is indeed a super smart breed. However, dogs are as smart as opportunity allows. For these, you'll want to pay attention to the level typically 1,2 and 3 or beginner, intermediate, and advanced so that the puzzle is doable. Recommended super-fun fetch toys and a fun puzzle game are below this one is level 2, but there are lots of options. All rights reserved. Side note: I do not recommend getting rope toys to play tug-o-war with your dog. In my opinion, they are quite dangerous for two reasons. They invested in multiple ChuckIts and found it helped maintain their arm strength during playtime. The Chuckit itself remained durable, and users found cost-effective alternatives by using standard tennis balls. Each unstuffed toy has 3 independent squeaker zones for enhanced entertainment for small and medium dogs. Soft and durable puppy toys, machine washable for easy cleaning, ensuring longevity and fluffiness. In this pack, you will find a set of three squeaky animals. For less squeak-focused dogs, it provides enjoyment, and the lack of internal fluff prevents mess. However, some users found the squeakers not durable enough, losing their sound after moderate usage. Aggressive chewers, quickly destroyed the toy, ripping open the head and potentially posing a risk if the squeaker is swallowed. While some dogs may enjoy these toys, they are not suitable for aggressive chewers or those who prioritize squeaking ability. Lightweight, durable, weather, and water-resistant for long-lasting performance. Ideal for medium and large breeds, measuring 12 inches long. Ensured safety with rigorous testing for endless family fun. In my experience, this toy has a number of uses, for example as a tug-o-war toy or for a game of fetch. Interactive toy to cure boredom, promoting long-lasting play and calming anxiety for dogs over 6 months old. This particular toy features rotating soft brushes and treat rings, and has garnered mixed but generally positive reviews from internet users. While some dogs tend to destroy it quickly, its effectiveness when new keeps users repurchasing it. Take note though, it requires supervision, as dogs may dismantle it, and there are concerns about choking hazards and cracked plastic pieces. For some dogs, the toy provides extended playtime, with treats keeping them occupied for at least half an hour. I think this will be super beneficial for poodle owners whose dogs finish treats too quickly. Perfect for beginners, helping dogs learn tricks, commands, and strengthening the bond. Includes 1 square collapsible tunnel, 4 weave poles, and an adjustable jump, offering multiple ways to play. Convenient and portable with a lightweight set and a storage bag for easy home use. One owner liked it so much that he repurchased it multiple times for their now 2-year-old pup, who still loves the toy. While it eventually breaks down with heavy use, the toy has been durable for a few months with occasional chewing. Putting it in the freezer also worked well for some dogs, soothing their gums during teething. One of the top additions if you are a puppy owner, in my opinion. Eases anxiety during transitions and stressful events like fireworks and thunderstorms. Easy to use, made from certified safe and durable fabric, and machine washable heartbeat and heat pad removable. This has got to be one of the most highly-rated cuddling toys for dogs, whether they are adults or puppies. Just go read the reviews online! And I love it for many reasons. For new puppy owners, it proved beneficial in comforting their pups during crate training, helping them sleep through the night. It is also super durable. Why are Play and Toys Important to Poodles? Provide physical exercise Play and toys are important to poodles since they serve as the gateway for these dogs to engage in physical exercise. The time your dog spends playing with its toys keeps them moving which exercises and stretches their muscles. The exercise also helps them maintain a healthy weight, and it could even boost their cardiovascular health! Help stimulate the mind We all know that Poodles are smart dogs, constantly out and about thinking of what better to do during their free time. Letting your poodle play with toys will surely keep their intelligent minds busy. If you can see your poodle behaving bothered and looking bored, try giving him an interactive puzzle toy for dogs. Boost social skills Play and toys let poodles interact with their dog owners. Often, poodles will bring toys to their owners as a way of engaging in play. This simple act also makes poodles friendlier and more playful, which makes them even more adorable! There are teething toys out there that are even recommended by vets, especially if the poodle is still a teething puppy. Playing with chew toys and teething toys will also let your poodle remove plaque and tartar in his mouth on his own. No more constant messy toothbrushing! Hence when they get bored or anxious, they typically resort to destructive behavior. But with toys available for poodles to play with their boredom, anxiety, or stress can easily be handled. Yes, Poodles do need a wide variety of toys. You see, there are some poodles, especially the young ones, who need teething toys to alleviate their teething throes. Factors in Choosing Poodle Toys Size appropriate Poodles come in three sizes; standard, miniature, and toy poodle. Chew resistant Poodles are quite the chewers, I should say. Chew-resistant toys are widely available in pet stores and even in vet clinics. They are safer since no parts will be chewed off and swallowed by your dog. Many reputable manufacturers will indicate the material they use, especially pet-safe ones. Interactive and mental stimulation It pays to consider if a toy can provide mental challenges and games that are interactive yet fun to play. When you do so, you give them the opportunity to stimulate their minds and keep them busy for hours. Products that are proven to be durable can save you more than just a few dollars, but also the potential for loose parts to come off and pose a swallowing threat. No small parts This is really important to me — making sure that the toys for poodles have no small parts. Small parts can be torn off by your poodle, which it might accidentally swallow and choke on. Budget Having a dog can surely add a huge expense to your budget, and buying toys that are way too expensive is unwise especially if your dog will only play with them a few times. That said, I would prioritize safety and quality over anything else, and if money is indeed an issue, I rather wait to get a better one. However, some toys are durable enough to last a long time before getting destroyed. How many toys should I provide for my poodle? As a general guideline, I recommend having a variety of toys to keep your poodle mentally and physically stimulated. Start with toys and observe which types of toys your poodle enjoys the most. Rotate them regularly to keep them interesting and prevent boredom. Are some materials dangerous for my poodle? Yes, there are materials that are dangerous for your poodle, such as PVC and lead, both of which are toxic to dogs when exposed too often. Choose a reputable retailer and exercise extreme caution if you DIY your own dog toy. Why do poodles destroy their toys? Standard poodles typically destroy their toys because of their natural prey drive. But miniature and toy poodles usually destroy their dogs just out of boredom or anxiety. Regular brushing and visits to the vet are still needed. It is important to recognize these behaviors and redirect them into positive behaviors. Most Common Behavioral Problems Among Poodles Hyperactivity— It is normal for poodle puppies to be hyper, and they usually grow out of this in the first year or two. If this behavior in your poodle continues, make sure you are providing them plenty of exercise. If they feel like you are angry or frustrated, they might act out in a more hyper mood. Try to remain calm around your poodle to help them emulate your calm spirit. Too clingy- Make sure your poodle is allowed to explore all approved areas of your house, this way, they know where they can most comfortable. Introducing your poodle to new environments and situations will help them feel more comfortable in different circumstances. Always make sure you are giving your poodle the attention they need. Quality time throughout the day with their owner will allow your poodle to feel safe and secure when they are left alone. Nipping- Poodles are not naturally aggressive, and all dogs nip a little in the puppy phase as they learn to play. If this action continues into adulthood, it is vital to train and teach your poodle that this behavior is not okay. Poodles respond best to positive encouragement. Marking territory If your poodle is marking their territory, they might be trying to assert their dominance in the household, leave a mating signal, be having a response to visitors, or it might even be a response to a new family member. It is crucial in this situation to establish yourself as the head of the family with your poodle. Let them know that you are the leader. You can do this by having them sit first before you give them their food or treats. Having them sit before you enter or leave a room is also helpful in letting them know you are in charge. Another way to help them stop marking is to get them spayed or neutered. It would help if you also cleaned your home with an enzyme cleaner. Soap and water will not get rid of the smell entirely and your poodle will continue to mark when they smell it. Growling- growling is different from barking and is something an owner needs to be aware of right away. Finding the reason for the growling is important—is your poodle in pain, scared, marking their territory, or being aggressive? It is important to identify the trigger so you can help change the situation. If your poodle has begun to grow aggressively, proper training right away is vital to stop the behavior before your poodle thinks that it is acceptable to behave like that. Jumping- It is common for poodles to jump up when they are saying hello or excited to see someone. If you have a bigger poodle, this could potentially cause a problem or even frighten your guests. It is also important to make sure you are helping your poodle release their extra energy in other ways, like walks throughout the day. Disobedience- Poodles are a highly intelligent breed. They are great problem solvers and good at learning commands. Poodle owners must train their poodles with commands and rules. If you find that your poodle is continually disobeying you, it is important to understand what might be triggering them. Poodles are emotional dogs, they might be frightened or lonely, and that could be causing some of their disobedience. Understanding why they might be disobeying will help you find the right steps to take to get them back on track. Here is why: Walking is low impact and easy on their joints and muscles. All you need is a leash and harness. Puppy Poodles-The The duration of your walks or the amount of time you exercise your poodle depends on its size and type. For toy and miniature poodles, it is important not to over-exercise them as puppies. This can affect bone growth. Keeping walks shorter and at a slower pace for these small puppies is important Adults Poodles-As your poodle reaches adulthood, you can increase your walk time and pace. Most adult poodles need about 60 minutes of walk time a day, and it is best if this is done in two 30 minute sessions or three 20 minute ones. Senior Poodles-Even as your poodle reaches his or her senior years, it is vital to keep up their walking routine. Fresh air is known to help their moods. Just make sure to decrease the duration and pace of your walks. Walking Poodles in Different Weather Conditions Whether it is hot or cold outside, weather can affect your desire or ability to walk your poodle. Try morning and cooler evening walks. Always bring water and take a water break in the shade. Protect their nose with sunscreen. In the summer, swimming is another excellent exercise for your poodle. They are great swimmers, and it is an excellent low-impact activity. Make sure you wash their coat off with shampoo afterward, and if you are in an area with deeper water, a doggie life vest is always a safe option. Cold Weather Again, protect those paws. Paw wax or no-slip paw show to keep those paws warm Dress you and your poodle appropriately. A vest or sweater can help keep your poodle warm during those colder winter walks. Protect their noses from getting chapped with a nose butter. If it is just too cold to go outside, make sure to play and give your poodle plenty of playtime in the house. Playing fetch and letting them run a little more in the house will help them get out their energy. Best Treat Toys for Poodles Poodles love treats, and treats can be a useful training tool. On average, it takes around 30 months for a puppy to finally venture into adulthood. This means that you will have to tend to a puppy and handle its shenanigans even if it has physically grown. Lineage and Pedigree: Bulldogs with champion bloodlines or prestigious pedigrees often come with a higher price tag. Such dogs may have a documented lineage of excellence in conformation, temperament, or specific traits. Color and Coat Pattern: Bulldogs come in various coat colors and patterns. About Bulldog History of Bulldog The history of the Bulldog is a fascinating journey that reflects the resilience and adaptability of this remarkable breed. Bulldogs typically have a short, smooth coat that comes in various colors, including brindle, white, fawn, and combinations of these. Their short, sturdy legs and compact tails add to their unique appearance. Despite their formidable look, Bulldogs have a charming and lovable expression that melts the hearts of those who meet them. Bulldog Temperament and Activities Bulldogs are known for their delightful temperament, making them excellent companions for families, singles, and seniors alike. They are renowned for their gentle and affectionate nature, often forming strong bonds with their owners. Bulldogs are also quite adaptable, thriving in various living situations, from apartments to spacious homes with yards. While Bulldogs have a calm and easygoing disposition, they can also be a bit stubborn at times. Patience and positive reinforcement are key when training them. They are known to be good with children, making them fantastic family pets. Bulldogs also tend to get along well with other dogs and pets, provided they are properly socialized from an early age. In terms of physical activity, Bulldogs do not require intense exercise routines. They enjoy short walks and playtime in the yard but can overheat and struggle with excessive physical exertion due to their brachycephalic faces. These dogs are more inclined toward leisurely activities and are content to lounge with their owners. Bulldog Personality And Behaviour Bulldogs are known for their sweet personalities and gentle, loving disposition. Without proper socialization and training, however, bulldogs can become aggressive. So when purchasing one from a breeder, look for one that is well-trained in obedience so you can avoid any behavioral issues later on. Bulldogs love attention from their owners and will gladly sit in your lap while you work or snuggle up next to you on the couch at night! Some of these dogs may even try and succeed! Bulldog Health Issues Bulldogs are a beloved breed, but they are also known for their susceptibility to various health issues due to their unique physical characteristics. Here are some common health issues associated with Bulldogs: Brachycephalic Syndrome: Bulldogs have flat faces, which can lead to breathing difficulties. This condition, known as brachycephalic syndrome, can cause snoring, wheezing, and even more severe respiratory problems. Skin Fold Infections: The loose skin folds on Bulldogs can trap moisture and debris, making them prone to skin fold infections. Regular cleaning and drying of these areas, as well as using specialized pet-safe wipes, can help prevent infections. This can result in pain and reduced mobility. Regular vet check-ups can help detect and manage this condition. Cherry Eye: Bulldogs can develop a condition called cherry eye, where the gland in their third eyelid protrudes and becomes visible. This may require surgical correction to prevent discomfort and potential eye issues. Obesity: Bulldogs have a tendency to gain weight, which can exacerbate their breathing difficulties and lead to other health problems. Maintaining a balanced diet and providing regular exercise is essential to keep them at a healthy weight. Heart Issues: Bulldogs may be prone to heart problems, such as aortic stenosis or mitral valve disease. Regular cardiac check-ups with a veterinarian can help monitor and manage these conditions if they develop. Training and Exercise Requirements for Bulldogs Bulldogs have unique exercise and training needs that cater to their specific characteristics and temperament. Here are seven key points to consider: Moderate Exercise: Bulldogs are not highly active dogs. They benefit from short daily walks and playtime, typically 30 minutes to an hour. Avoid strenuous exercise to prevent overheating due to their brachycephalic flat-faced nature. Basic Obedience Training: Start with basic commands like sit, stay, and come. Bulldogs can be stubborn, so patience and positive reinforcement are essential for successful training. Socialization: Early and continuous socialization is vital. Expose your Bulldog to various people, animals, and environments to ensure they grow up to be well-adjusted and friendly. Potty Training: Bulldogs can be a bit challenging to house-train due to their stubbornness. Consistency and a regular schedule are key to successful potty training. Leash Training: Teach your Bulldog to walk on a leash from a young age. This will help prevent pulling and make walks more enjoyable for both of you. Mental Stimulation: Bulldogs may not require vigorous physical exercise, but they do need mental stimulation. Puzzle toys and interactive games can keep their minds engaged. Positive Reinforcement: Use positive reinforcement techniques like treats, praise, and affection to motivate and reward your Bulldog during training. Avoid harsh punishments, as Bulldogs respond better to positive interactions. Grooming for Bulldog Grooming plays a crucial role in maintaining the health and well-being of your Bulldog. While Bulldogs are not high-maintenance in terms of grooming compared to some other breeds, there are specific care routines you should follow to keep your Bulldog looking and feeling their best. Bathing: Bulldogs should be bathed regularly, typically every 6 to 8 weeks, or as needed. Use a mild dog shampoo to avoid skin irritation, and be sure to thoroughly rinse and dry your Bulldog, paying special attention to the skin folds to prevent moisture-related skin issues. Skin Folds: Bulldogs are known for their loose skin and deep wrinkles, which can trap moisture and debris, leading to skin fold infections. Regularly clean and dry these areas, using pet-safe wipes or a damp cloth, to prevent skin problems. Bulldogs have short, smooth coats, so brushing is relatively simple and serves more for cleanliness and bonding than for coat maintenance. Ear Cleaning: Due to their folded ears, Bulldogs can be prone to ear infections. Check their ears weekly and clean them with a vet-approved ear cleaner if you notice any dirt or wax buildup. Regular nail maintenance is essential, as overly long nails can affect their gait and cause joint issues. Dental Care: Bulldogs are prone to dental problems, so establish a dental care routine early. Brush their teeth regularly with dog-specific toothpaste and provide dental chews or toys to help keep their teeth clean. Bulldogs have unique dietary needs that should be addressed to ensure they maintain a healthy weight and minimize health issues. Look for options that list meat as the primary ingredient and avoid foods with excessive fillers or artificial additives. Protein and Fat Content: Bulldogs benefit from a diet that contains a balanced amount of protein and fat. Avoid Allergens: Pay attention to any food allergies or sensitivities your Bulldog may have. Common allergens include grains, chicken, and dairy. Consult your vet if you suspect food allergies and consider specialized diets if needed. Fresh Water: Ensure that your Bulldog has access to clean, fresh water at all times. Proper hydration is essential for their overall health. Special Dietary Considerations: Bulldogs are prone to flatulence and sensitive stomachs. Some owners find that feeding their Bulldogs smaller, more frequent meals can help reduce digestive issues. Bulldogs, like any other breed, require care, attention, and financial investment to ensure their well-being. Routine Veterinary Care: Bulldogs need regular veterinary check-ups, vaccinations, and preventive medications. Food: Bulldogs require high-quality dog food to maintain their health. Grooming: While Bulldogs have minimal grooming needs, occasional baths, nail trims, and cleaning of skin folds are necessary. This can help mitigate unexpected veterinary bills. According to Pet MD, female bulldogs tend to outlive male bulldogs, especially those over 10 years old. And older bulldogs are more likely to develop health problems that shorten their lifespans; Pet MD reports that health conditions such as cardiomyopathy and portosystemic shunt the latter which often causes liver disease can lead to shorter lives in senior dogs of all breeds. But when it comes down it, an estimated lifespan is just that—estimated. Learn More Labrador Retriever is a quite famous breed, topping the list of great family dogs due to their friendly and social personality. Now, what colors come to your mind when you think of the Labradors? Black, yellow, and chocolate. Silver Labrador Retriever is a beautiful color variation of traditional Labradors; because of the presence of a dilute gene. Their distinct coat color has caught the attention of many; however, not without some controversy. About the Breed Silver Labrador Retrievers are one of the rarest shades of labradors. They are a hyperactive breed with a compelling sporting nature. They respond well to training, enjoy exploring nature with you, love playing water sports, and are fond of the fetch game, making them perfect for active families. These beautiful dogs are well-known for befriending every creature they see without any degree of communication. They love being the center of attention and thrive on social interaction. A little clingy at times, but they deserve all that for their service just existing. Their agreeable personality and intelligence make them one of the most charming breeds. However, according to the breed standard set by Labrador Retriever Club, true labradors are yellow, black, and chocolate in color. Many breeders believe that the other colors are due to cross-breeding Labradors with Weimaraners. They were created in Newfoundland and were first introduced by the European to Britain settlers via the ships trading between Canada and Poole. Labs were initially bred for duck retrieving, assisting in fishing adventures, and as a hunting dog. But with time, their popularity grew more as household pets, and to this date, especially in the western world. They first started appearing, according to some sources, in , while others believe it was in the s. Now, it is clear that their distinct coat colors are due to the presence of the recessive dilute gene pair that has recently appeared in the Labrador gene pool. The source of that dilute gene is what makes their exact origin vague. This is why the profile of Silver Labs remains controversial for the most part. Silver Labrador Facts Silver Labradors have blue eyes as puppies. They are more prone to developing skin problems such as Color Dilution Alopecia than other Labradors. They are outgoing and social. They are intelligent and highly trainable Silver Labrador Appearance Just look at Silver Labrador slaying in this picture, like he was born to model. Silver Labs undoubtedly possess the most distinct silverish gray color that leaves an impact on the observer. Their eyes are a beautiful shade of yellow, on which a relatively small black pupil looks striking. They have long floppy ears that rest flat on the sides. Their nose, which is always in search of something to eat or sniffing butts , tends to be brown in color. These rare gray labradors have this indescribable charm that keeps winning people over. Owners tend to be drawn to their wide skulls and muscular build. The average height range for almost all grown Silver Labs is between .WeightThe male Silver Lab tends to have a slightly bulkier build in contrast to the female Lab. On average, the weight of a fully-grown Silver Labrador falls between 55 to 80 pounds. The weight range is 45 to 70 pounds in the case of female Labs. CoatSilver Lab has a double coat to protect them against harsh cold weather. Theirinner coatis denser and thicker as compared to their outer coat, which is thinand short. Their coat is overall smooth and shiny and feels euphoric to pet. Yellow and black are the most common coat shades in Labrador Retrievers, and silver and chocolate are the least common. Silver Lab Puppies A Silver Labrador puppy is one of the most aesthetically pleasing sights to the eyes in the world. The sparkly blue eyes and the smoky grey shade make a striking contrast. As time progresses, they tend to darken. Their eyes turn yellow after the Silver pups cross the age of 6 to 8 months. Silver Labrador Temperament and Personality Talking about Silver Lab temperament, just like other Labrador Retrievers, they too have friendly, affectionate, caring personalities. They are a very intelligent breed that makes the best companion to their human family. This high-spirited breed matures physically but remains child-like at heart, lifting the mood around the house by being jolly, goofy, jumpy, and adored by absolutely everyone. The Silver Labrador retriever has an easy-going personality, which means they enjoy every activity with you. They just want to feel your touch, no matter what you do. It is because of their attachment to their owners, which is why they are prone to exhibiting signs of separation anxiety when left alone on their own for too long. Moreover, it is a social breed that thrives on attention and being around people. These sweet creatures are the best friends of kids. Silver Labs are patient and gentle toward children; they can be their playmates for hours without getting tired. One of the best qualities of These dogs is they get along really well with other dogs and pets. On the contrary, they get excited at the sight of another human, hang out with them and try to impress them with how cool they are they actually are. They also tend to chewupon objects due to anxiety. The Silver Lab is an active breed, just like the black and yellow labs. In order to keep them away from destructive behaviors, they need to stay stimulated mentally and physically. They can be a little prone to nipping, so they do require a lot of your attention. Plus, if you enjoy outdoor adventures like hiking, then Silver Lab will prove to be an extraordinary companion to you. Due to being double-coated, they shed a fair amount of hair, especially the Silver Labrador, because of skin problems. Grooming Requirements Brushing As we mentioned above, labs shed quite a bit. And by this, we mean you will be able to collect an adequate amount of hair from all over the house, especially during peak season. Using coconut oil at least once a month can keep their coat neat, shiny, and soft. Gently massage the oil for about five minutes and then clean it with a towel. Bathing Bathing your Labrador Retriever once a month is adequate. Use lukewarm water and mild shampoo; it will keep their skin maintained. However, if you start noticing scratching of nails against the floor while running, walking, or jumping around, trim their nails immediately. Ear Cleaning Their adorable floppy ears need to be checked and cleaned frequently to prevent any potential infection. Always include ear cleaning in their grooming session. Health Complications in Silver Labrador Every breed is likely to face minor or major health complications. And we have listed all the possible health conditions your Labrador Breed could suffer from. When getting a Silver Labrador, always look for a reputable breeder. Life Expectancy Silver Labrador dogs typically have a lifespan between 10 to 14 years. It can vary from dog to dog based on health issues, environment, and other factors. It occurs due to the presence of a recessive gene. In this condition, your dog suffers from skin problems, including hair loss or thinning in the form of patches, itchiness, scaliness, or flaky skin. Vets give treatments to tackle secondary skin infections. Avoid using brushes with harsh bristles. The deficiency of type II muscle fibers causes muscle weakness, resulting in symptoms like stunted growth, trouble swallowing, stiff arched back, shrunken muscles, and low tolerance to exercise. They progressively get worse and are the most prominent in 5 months old puppy. Sadly, most puppies with CNM are subjected to euthanization due to their inability to function normally in life. No dog owner should ever have to go through this painful experience. This developmental issue in both joints causes difficulty or friction in climbing stairs, jumping, running, and even walking. Exercise Induced Collapse Labradors and their unending love for playing and exercise is not something hidden; their energy drive is high. EIC refers to the recessive autosomal inherited trait. Your Labrador Retriever, despite feeling weak, will still try to be active. Then after five to ten minutes, they collapse. Extreme exercise sessions are to be avoided in dogs with this condition. This results in excessive discharge from ears, inflammation, itching, foul odor, and head shaking. Otitis Externais one of the most common ear infections in Silver Labradors, characterized by ear canal inflammation. Ear infections are unpleasant and painful and cause discomfort for your dogs. Consult a local veterinarian right away if you notice any of the above symptoms. Over Eating Labrador Retrievers are quite popular for being foodies. Some scientists associate it with a genetic mutation. Sometimes, overeating might also indicate an underlying serious health issue like hypothyroidism. Silver Labrador Diet and Nutrition Your high-energy Labrador Retriever needs a high-quality, nutritious, and protein-rich diet to function healthily. The amount of dog food you feed them may vary a little with their size and weight. For example, your Silver Lab of 50 pounds will need about 2 and a half cups of good quality dog food daily. The calorie requirement for an pound Silver Labrador is a little higher; they will need about 3 and a half cups of dog food to fulfill their 1, calorie requirement each day. Consider getting dog food that has adequate calcium for better joint development. And remember, it is always best to divide the meals into 3 to 4 intervals for better digestion. These greedy creatures tend to unleash their inner ever-hungry beast at the sight of food, which causes bloating. In order to keep them physically and mentally stimulated, 60 minutes of exercise every day is essential. And if your Lab is super active, make it 1. Labs love playing fetch, running, going on fast-paced walking, and being goofy. Thus, their exercise session can include any activity; just make sure they get enough exercise every day! Dedicate one hour of your time daily to your dog, and give them all your attention and love. Apart from playing and exercising, you can keep them busy by getting them interactive and stimulating toys. Those toys also help them in providing comfort when you leave them alone for a while. These tiny pups are the result of selectively breeding smaller Frenchies, and they typically weigh between pounds and stand at inches tall. Micro Frenchies have all the same physical characteristics as their larger counterparts, including their bat-like ears, wrinkly faces, and short, stocky bodies. However, their petite size makes them even more adorable and irresistible to many dog lovers. While Micro French Bulldogs are undeniably cute, it's important to note that their small size can come with some health challenges. They may be more prone to health issues like respiratory problems, dental problems, and joint issues. As with any dog breed, it's important to do thorough research and talk to a reputable breeder to ensure you're giving your Micro Frenchie the best possible care. The Micro French Bulldog as we know it today did not exist in Ancient Greece, but the breed's ancestors can be traced back to the Molossian dogs of that time. These dogs were large and powerful, used for hunting and as guard dogs. Over time, the breed evolved, becoming smaller and more compact. Fast forward to the 19th century in England, and we see the emergence of the modern-day French Bulldog. These dogs were bred as companion animals, smaller versions of the English Bulldog that were popular with the upper class. They quickly became a fashion accessory, with many wealthy women carrying their Frenchies in small bags. The first records of smaller versions of the French Bulldog come from the early 20th century, when breeders began selectively breeding for smaller sizes. These early versions were known as "Toy Bulldogs" and were popular in England and France. It wasn't until the midth century that the term "Teacup French Bulldog" or "Micro French Bulldog" began to be used to describe these tiny pups. Today, they remain a popular choice for those looking for a pint-sized companion that's big on personality. How the Micro French Bulldog Gained Popularity The Micro French Bulldog has gained popularity in recent years due to its irresistibly cute appearance and charming personality. Social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok have played a significant role in increasing the popularity of this tiny breed, with many influencers and celebrities showing off their adorable Micro Frenchies to their followers. Another reason for the breed's popularity is its adaptability to apartment living. Due to their small size and moderate exercise requirements, Micro French Bulldogs are well-suited for city living and make great companions for those who live in smaller spaces. In addition, the breed's affectionate and playful nature has made them a popular choice for families and individuals alike. They are known for being great with children and other pets, making them an excellent choice for those looking for a furry friend to share their home with. Finally, the growing popularity of "teacup" or miniature dog breeds in general has contributed to the rise of the Micro French Bulldog. Many people are drawn to the idea of owning a small, cute companion that they can easily take with them wherever they go. Overall, the Micro French Bulldog's rise in popularity can be attributed to its undeniable cuteness, adaptability, and lovable personality, making it a perfect companion for many different types of households. However, the breed is recognized by some smaller kennel clubs and breed associations. This means that any Micro French Bulldog that meets the breed standard for French Bulldogs can be registered with these organizations, regardless of their size. While some people are drawn to the appeal of owning a Micro French Bulldog, it's important to note that there are potential health risks associated with breeding for extremely small size. Responsible breeders should prioritize the health and well-being of their dogs over achieving a specific size or appearance. Brush their teeth twice a week and use a dental canine rinse on some of the remaining days. Bathe them monthly or when extremely dirty with a mild canine shampoo. Highly absorbent canine towels will help you dry their wrinkles to prevent infection. It is also important to clean their ears bi-weekly with ear wipes to prevent infections. Nails should be trimmed monthly with pet clippers to prevent them from becoming too long and causing discomfort or injury. Exercise Teacup French Bulldogs are a small breed and do not require a lot of exercise. However, they still need daily physical activity for 20 to 30 minutes to keep them healthy and prevent obesity. It is important to avoid overexertion, especially in hot weather, as Teacup French Bulldogs are prone to heatstroke. Therefore, always carry a filled portable water bottle for them during walks. These dogs are eager to please, but they can also be stubborn. Here are some tips for training your Teacup French Bulldog: To train these pups, start training early in puppyhood, use positive reinforcement, and stay consistent. Socialization, obedience training, and crate training are the most important things to teach your Teacup Frenchie. You can also visit the breeder to see the exact size of the litter parents. Adopting a Teacup Frenchie Adoption can be the best way to go when getting this dog. However, due to their rarity and high prices, getting these pups in shelters or adoption agencies may be a task. Take the Quiz Crossing a French Bulldog with a smaller dog breed The first and most obvious way of creating mini French Bulldogs is by crossbreeding a standard Frenchie with another small dog breed like a Yorkie or a Toy Poodle. Naturally, the pups will be mixes of the two breeds, so the breeding needs to be repeated across several generations until the puppies have all the physical traits of a Frenchie and retain only the small size of the other breed. Breeders usually achieve this around the third generation. Crossbreeding is not a new practice although it is quite a controversial one. However, it is still considered to be the safest method to produce a mini French Bulldog, and the simple reason for that is the health of the puppies. A crossbreed mini Frenchie is less likely to suffer from any of the health issues that their parents may be predisposed to. Breeding the runts of the litter Another method that some breeders use to create mini Frenchies is breeding runts. Constantly breeding such puppies with the aim to pass down the small-size trait not only involves possible health risks but it also takes multiple generations to achieve the desired miniature size. Check out our French Bulldog Puppies Breeding Frenchies with dwarfism The last and by far the worst method is purposefully breeding Frenchies with the dwarfism mutation gene to create puppies with shorter bodies and legs. Unfortunately it comes with a number of health issues for Frenchies who already have a delicate bone structure: it may not only cause a lot of pain for them in the legs, back, and hips but also significantly reduce their lifespan. Pros Mini Frenchies are a great choice for city dwellers who live in small apartments with little space. Due to their small size mini Frenchies require less food and exercise. They of course still need a high quality dog food as well as daily playtime and walks. Predominate Frenchie canines Playing the job of god to their hands — Developing the dwarfism transformation quality in a line of French Bulldogs. Dwarfism is a skeletal problem that prompts ongoing torment in canines and medical conditions connected with abbreviated spinal vertebrae, bowed legs, unusual skull and facial bone construction. Breeding the Mini French Bulldog runts Behaving recklessly — Reproducing pipsqueaks is likely quite possibly of the most unfortunate rearing practice. Half-pints are the littlest and most fragile in a litter. Continued rearing of the littlest and most fragile is just requesting inconvenience. Not only are Frenchel Micro Mini bulldogs likely to live up to 20 years, they enjoy stellar health without breathing issues! Teacup French Bulldogs are really fun dogs. It is sad that they suffer so many of the same ills and health problems as the regular size French Bulldogs, sometimes more. They are fraught with allergies, cancer, spinal issues, knee issues, breathing problems and other health issues. Crossbreeding French Bulldogs with Chihuahuas Calculated deception — Crossbreed of a French Bulldog with an alternate, more modest canine variety then re-reproducing until the vibes of a full French Bulldog that is more modest is met, generally by second or third era. Promoted and sold as a full variety despite the fact that DNA will show the canine is certainly not a full variety. Raisers crossbreed the French Bulldog with an alternate, more modest canine variety to accomplish the little Frenchie look. Each reproducing of this crossover can result on additional attributes of either parent breed. Some will seem to be French Bulldogs, and a few additional like Chihuahuas. The French Bullhuahua is normally a little canine, and can weigh somewhere in the range of 7 lbs to 23 lbs. They normally have a stocky, strong body and the mark bat-ears that spread the word. Expected lifespan of the miniature French Bulldog: The American Pet hotel Club proposes the standard French Bulldog holds a life expectancy of 11 to 13 years. It is difficult to foresee the life expectancy of a smaller than usual Frenchie and it will rely upon what medical problems they are having concerning their qualities and rearing history. It is conceivable in uncommon events for a small Frenchie to live as long as the standard French Bulldog be that as it may, it is impossible. How much does a teacup French Bulldog puppy cost? The sticker price. Each time a raiser alludes to a canine in those terms you can expect the sticker price of the canine to twofold or triple than typical inquiring. We accept that underlying expense is just the start. Mini French Bulldog dog alternative: There are numerous options in contrast to the smaller than usual Frenchie. Before you burn through a large number of dollars for a variety that was scaled down against AKC norms and will undoubtedly have long lasting medical problems which will set you up for many sorrows kindly think about all choices. Consider a French Bulldog crossbreed with less acquired medical conditions. A French Bulldog crossbreed can be an extraordinary option in contrast to a smaller than expected Frenchie in the event that you investigate as needs be and pick a trustworthy reproducer who tests generally their rearing stock for any acquired medical issue. Crossbreedbetween French Bulldog and Yorkshire Terrier. Conjunctivitis Patellar luxation French bulldogs are also known for being a brachycephalic breed. This means that they are more susceptible to suffering from brachycephalic airway syndrome. This health issue is one that many small dog breeds with short noses and smooshed-in faces suffer from as well, like the pomeranian and shih tzu. Because of their short nose bones, Frenchies may be more prone to respiratory issues that cause changes to the lungs, breathing trouble, and reflux, among other health problems. Royal Frenchels combat many of the health issues that mini Frenchies and other varieties of the breed are known for. In fact, Royal Frenchels percentage of health issues is 10 times lower than that of French Bulldog health statistics. You can learn more about our Royal Frenchel health statistics and our commitment to percent health transparency for the breed on our website. The Royal Frenchel is a unique breed with only one official breeder. Anahata Graceland is the creator of the breed, and she began her breeding career as a boxer and French bulldog breeder. An avid French Bulldog enthusiast, Graceland was inspired to create the Royal Frenchel Bulldog to mirror some of the best Frenchie traits while creating a healthier pet. However, there are other breeds in the mix to boost health, personality, trainability, and the other incredible traits these dogs possess. Royal Frenchels evolved into what they are today through more than 15 years of breeding and dedication to creating a healthy gene pool. Size Expectations The Royal Frenchel breed is available in three size variations. They average about 26 pounds, which is similar to the average size of a standard French bulldog. Regular Royals tend to range between 24 and 28 pounds, while small Royals tend to range between 14 and 22 pounds. The micro mini Royal Frenchel is closer to the size of a mini or teacup French bulldog, ranging between 9 and 14 pounds. Mini Royal Frenchels tend to look somewhat puppyish, even as adults, with their appearance staying the same even as they make the transition from pup to adult dog. Regular Royals, also look very much in appearance from puppyhood to adulthood, similar to standard Frenchies. Age Expectations According to the American Kennel Club, the average life expectancy of a French bulldog is 10 to 12 years. Mini French bulldogs average slightly higher. The same trend holds true with Royal Frenchels, with the micro mini versions usually outlasting regular and small versions of the breed. However, Royals have a longer lifespan , on average, than the French bulldog breed, even in its mini form. Royal Frenchels are known to live between 14 and 20 years, with Micro Mini Royal Frenchels often living closer to the year mark. Still, they enjoy going outside, taking walks, and even running around in the backyard with their family members. Royal Frenchels can vary in energy and exercise needs, depending on their size. Larger Royals tend to be more into hiking and adventures than smaller Royals, but all of them do well with a moderate exercise routine that keeps them moving, agile, and fit. This trait helps their bodies stay agile and strong as they jump around and run off their energy. Personality A large-but-laid-back, lovable personality is one of the best Royal Frenchel traits. Royals are known for their intelligence and people-pleasing attitude. These traits make them exceptionally eager to learn and train. Both breeds are easy-going, fun-loving, and sweet, making them calm and nurturing around kids and other pets. Royals take these beloved traits from the Frenchie and magnify them. These dogs are loving, affectionate pups who love to play and have fun. Separation Anxiety Any dog breed can suffer from separation anxiety, but some breeds are more prone to it than others, including the standard and mini French bulldog. Award-Winning Breed Some dog breeds are fortunate enough to be recognized by companies and award programs for their outstanding features that put them ahead of other breeds in specific categories, like longevity or temperament. Farmers Insurance, a company that provides pet insurance as one of its many types of insurance policies, recognizes the Royal Frenchel for its laid-back personality, athleticism, and ability to become an excellent family dog. This award comes after Farmers Insurance considered dog breeds, making it quite the accomplishment for our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and French Bulldog along with other breeds for stabilization mixed breed to achieve. Our Royals are part of our family for life, which is why we want to see both of you succeed once you head home. We offer collaborative training to our new Royal Primary Families. The Royal family is with you every step of the way. Anahata has bred dogs for more than half a century. There is no overlooking the sweet personality and cuteness of a Frenchie dog, but when it comes to health, and a mellow fun nature dedicated to serving you Royal Frenchel is leaps and bounds better than the French bulldog breed. A Royal Frenchel is one of the best family dogs you can have. Its laid-back temperament and willing, motivated, and easy-to-train attitude make it the perfect mix for a pet family. And, because there are different sizes of Royal Frenchels, you can even choose one that will keep its puppy-like look throughout its lifetime, much like the teacup French bulldog puppy. We invite you to contact us today on our website, by email, or phone to learn more about our beautiful breed and how you can prepare to adopt one. Not only are Royal Frenchel Micro Mini bulldogs likely to live up to 20 years, they enjoy stellar health without breathing issues! Teacup French Bulldogs are really fun dogs. It is sad that they suffer so many of the same ills and health problems as the regular size French Bulldogs, sometimes more. They are fraught with allergies, cancer, spinal issues, knee issues, breathing problems and other health issues. Royal Frenchels, on the other hand, were created by a number of breeds crossing and allowing gene pools to loosen up the superglue of the traditional Frenchie genes to create an Award Winning long-lived dog with superior health and a great personality. This practice ended in with the Cruelty to Animals Act, but the name has since stuck. The Bulldog eventually made its way over to France with Normandy lace-workers who fled England after being displaced by the industrial revolution. Here in France, the Bulldog was crossed with local French ratters. Ratters were small in size and had large erect ears similar to a bat. Over the years, the size of the companion Bulldog was reduced to a mere 16 — 25 lbs. As the new, smaller French Bulldogs gained popularity in France, they became highly sought after by creatives, such as artists, writers, and fashion designers as well as society ladies and Parisian prostitutes alike! The Frenchie is a compact, muscular dog with a smooth coat, wrinkly face, and pushed in nose. The French Bulldog is a cheerful, fairly low-maintenance companion dog. They are pleasant, affectionate, sweet, and they have a propensity to be very clownish. They are alert, curious, and even-tempered. This breed usually forms a strong bond with one person. While French Bulldogs are generally accepting of strangers and other animals, some males may be aggressive toward other dogs of the same sex. The French Bulldog needs human companionship and attention. If left ignored or unattended for long periods of time, they can become mischievous and depressed. Although somewhat willful at times, they can be trained relatively easily by a patient owner. The French Bulldog is not a loud or hyper breed, but they are very enthusiastic and persistent. As a flat faced breed, the French Bulldog cannot survive outdoors. Its compromised breathing system makes it impossible to regulate its body temperature efficiently, so the French Bulldog has trouble cooling off in hot weather and can easily suffer from heatstroke. The stripes are quite subtle and blend into each other so they sometimes look like a dark brown dog. They have blue, light grey or amber coloured eyes and a pink tint on their muzzle. The lilac coat color is a result of a mutation in the MLPH gene codes for a protein called melanophilin that results in a dilution of color. You can read our full guide on Lilac Frenchies here. Merle Teacup French Bulldog A Merle Teacup French Bulldog carries the merle gene which dilutes certain sections of their coat resulting in mottled patches of different colours and patterns.
