Why us Superb Temperament Australian labradoodles are known for their amazing temperament. Our love for this breed began with our first Australian labradoodle, Georgia pictured below in the snow. She taught us what the Australian labradoodle was all about. With her intuitive connection, and sociable personality, we fell in love instantly and so did everyone who met her. She was a joy to train, willing to please, gentle, and just as funny as she was affectionate. Due to their extreme willingness to please and ability to train, a percentage of our dogs have gone on to do therapy and service work. Nourishing Environment Puppies like babies need nurturing and human interaction. We are asking them to live in our world so the more human experiences they can have before going home, the easier the transition. We utilize Early neurological stimulation, Early Scent Introduction, Puppy Culture, a 10 step handling exercise, as well as extensive socialization to raise the most well-balanced dogs. All of our dogs are fed a high quality, all natural diet, for maximum health. We believe in a holistic approach to the well being of our dogs, and they are minimally vaccinated. Excellent Health While we have a strong emphasis for temperament, having a sound, physically healthy puppy is of upmost importance. Healthy puppies begin with the parents. Our breeding dogs have to meet strict requirements to enter the program. We start with carefully selected breeding stock coming from a controlled breeding line. Our Labradoodles have allergy friendly coats that are non-shedding, and we love helping people with allergies add to their family. However, these dogs are so adorable as puppies that many people often adopt them without giving it the proper amount of thought. The food costs are exorbitant, though, and you should expect a whopper of a vet bill every now and then. They can also be prone to behavioral issues if not properly trained and socialized. Just keep in mind that your home will get smaller after you bring one into it. You better know how to swim, because these dogs drool. When you combine two breeds that are already known for having overactive salivary glands, you get a mix that can flood your entire house. It may sound adorable and it often is. They have no idea how big they are. However, they generally weigh well over pounds. Also, they have no idea where their feet are at any time, and they will definitely step on you. They love being the center of attention. They constantly crave affection — and at their size, they have no problems getting it. They make up for it by being incredibly sweet, though. Masti-Bulls are fun-loving and affectionate, but they can quickly get serious if they perceive a threat. They will not hesitate to protect their families, making them great guard dogs and equally good babysitters. Despite their agreeable nature, they have sad-looking faces, especially their solemn eyes. Are These Dogs Good for Families? However, that protectiveness can sometimes be an issue, especially if your kids have friends over who like to roughhouse. Also, these dogs have no idea how big they are. If they get rambunctious, they can easily step on or bowl over a small child. You need to teach them to be aware of their surroundings; you also need to teach your kid how to act around the dog. They have formidable barks that broadcast just how big they are; there are few criminals brave enough to risk entering a house with one of these monsters inside. However, both parent breeds were originally bred as fighting animals, and there may be residual violence left in their DNA. Also, be careful about resource guarding with these dogs. They may get along great with other animals — until somebody gets too close to the food bowl, a favorite toy, or even you. Avoid anything with animal by-products. Portion control is important with larger breeds, as many of them will eat until they run out of food. A brisk walk, lasting minutes, is often all they need. They love to play, and they can spend hours pulling you around the house with a rope toy. Be careful not to overdo any exercise regimen you put them on. That means avoiding activities like agility training or anything that involves running and jumping especially on hard surfaces. Swimming is great for them, though. Introduce them to new people and places, and build up their confidence. You need to pay special attention to their ears too. Other than that, their grooming needs are fairly basic. Brush their teeth every day , bathe them every few months, and trim their nails as needed. Unfortunately, the breed is prone to a variety of health issues, both large and small. Minor Conditions. Another American breeder John Lucero played a pivotal role in developing this breed, calling his dogs American Bandog Mastiff. Temperament This intelligent, confident, docile and loyal breed has the ability in indentifying suspicious human behavior, thereby emerging as great protection dogs, loving and protecting the family till the end. If socialized, they get along with cats and other dogs. Generally good to children, they might become their self-appointed baby sitter. Not being good to visitors when the owner is not at home, they may also howl constantly in his absence. Care Exercise With proper physical and mental exercise, they do not become lazy and destructive. Thought they live well in apartments, a home with a large fence yard is ideal. They also enjoy their daily walks with their owners. Grooming Brushing their short coat regularly with a firm bristle brush, will help removing dead hair and dandruff, whereas rubbing with a clean cloth after brushing will help in retaining the gloss. Frequent bathing is harmful for the skin, but trimming their nails and keeping their eyes and ears clean helps in preventing infection. If they have wrinkles, it should be cleaned with a wet cloth or baby wipes and dried with corn starch or baby powder. This breed has a tendency to drool, so their mouth should be wiped after meals. Health Problems Like all other cross breeds they also may acquire the ailments of their parents. Other health problems include eye diseases, hip and elbow dysplasia, epilepsy, autoimmune thyroiditis, different types of cancer and skin problems. Having a deep chest, it can suffer from gastric dilatation volvulus or bloat. Training This mighty, easy-to-train breed needs a firm, assertive trainer who can control their dominant nature. Socialization along with obedience training is needed to be given since its puppy days to make it disciplined and well-behaved. Feeding They should be given good quality dog food and artificial supplements are to be avoided. Clean drinking water should be always available as they often feel thirsty. Because of their drooling tendency, their bowl should be washed and water changed, as they do not drink the soiled water. Interesting facts The term Bandog or Bandogge originated in Middle England around to , talking about a kind of mastiff dog that was chained in the day and freed at night to guard. They are good therapy dogs. We knew she was going to be a big dog. She has a sweet personality. However, she looks extremely intimidating the first time someone sees her. She is a large muscular animal with a stare which will cause people to pause when they first see her. Because of her intense look it was imperative to me to have complete obedience from her in all situations. Simply because she is large and intimidating we were afraid some fearful person could take her from us. We also had a Phantom Poodle and a Miniature Poodle. Eventually Raji became very aggressive toward the smaller dogs. She would snap at them, push them around, drag them by their collar, and even fight with them. She was considerably larger than they were by this time, and it became apparent she could eventually kill, or severely injure, one or all of them. To this day I believe had this happened, it would have been an accident. Because she was so strong a swift sweep with her paw could have broken a leg, or worse, of one of the smaller dogs. I am huge fan of Cesar Millan and watched as many episodes as I could. This was good, but we needed more. After doing much research I developed a training program, which does not include treats, as I wanted this large powerful animal to do what she was told because I told her to, not because she was going to get a treat! Through the training methods I used she has become a very happy and obedient dog. She is never allowed to chase anything and will lay down on command from yards away! She now will sit, stay, and come on command. We saved our dog and have complete confidence in her through good parenting and an understanding of how dogs think , along with the correct amount of exercise, discipline, and affection. Vegas the Bandogge Mastiff at 4 years old "This is my boy Mr. Yanyeroo at 10 months old. He's very affectionate with a good temperament; a nice-looking dog who loves to play outdoors. One of our favorite shows is "Dog Whisperer" because it helps us understand each other a little better. He belongs to the American Bandogge group which is a cross between a Mastiff with any Bully-type breed. I think he's a well-structured dog and a good candidate for pet modeling and advertising. He'll be enrolled in training programs for obedience and guard dog in the upcoming weeks. I hope I can keep enjoying his companionship for many years to come, I love my boy! China is soon to be bred with a Cane Corso named Bruno at lbs. He is the father of China, the American Bandogge Mastiff also pictured on this site. Scar's mother was an American Bulldog and his father was a Cane Corso. Scar is owned by my friend Chuck and is the ultimate guardian. Frightened or startled When they are not socialized If you think that your American Masti-Bull is displaying aggression, it is important to seek professional help from a certified trainer or behaviorist. A twice-weekly brushing with a natural bristle brush will help remove dead hairs and prevent matting. They typically shed moderately, so regular brushing will help keep the shedding under control. An occasional bath with a mild dog shampoo will help keep the coat clean and healthy. Beyond regular brushing and bathing, the American Masti-Bull requires minimal grooming. Their short, smooth coat is easy to care for, and they are not prone to excessive shedding or matting. As a result, they are an ideal breed for busy families or individuals who do not have the time or inclination to groom a high-maintenance breed. Nails should be trimmed regularly using a canine-specific nail trimmer. Overgrown nails can cause pain and difficulty walking. Ear cleaning is also important, as American Masti-Bulls are prone to ear infections. Clean the ears weekly with a cotton ball soaked in a gentle, dog-safe cleanser. Never insert anything into the ear canal itself. Teeth should be brushed regularly using a canine-specific toothpaste. American Masti-Bulls are prone to dental problems, so regular brushing will help keep the teeth and gums healthy. Regular grooming will help your American Masti-Bull stay healthy and comfortable. American Masti-Bull — Drooling Levels The American Bulldog Mastiff is known for its heavy drooling, which can be quite irritating to their face and neck. For this reason, it is important to wipe down their face and neck daily with a damp cloth. This will help to remove any build-up of saliva and prevent irritation. The American Masti-Bull is a loyal and protective breed that makes a great family pet. They are known for their gentle and loving nature, and they thrive on human interaction. They are patient with children and other pets, and they will quickly become a cherished member of the family. While they are not typically aggressive, they can be defensive of their family if they feel threatened. For this reason, it is important to socialize them early on and to provide them with plenty of positive reinforcement. If you are considering adopting an American Masti-Bull, it is important to research the breed thoroughly and to find a reputable breeder. This will help ensure that you end up with a healthy, well-adjusted pet that will be a cherished member of your family for many years to come. The American Masti-Bull is an excellent guard dog breed. They are loyal and protective of their family, and they will quickly become attached to their human companions. They are also quick to sound the alarm if they sense something amiss, which makes them an excellent watchdog. While they are not the largest of dogs, their courage and tenacity more than make up for their size. They will stand up to much larger opponents if they feel that their family is in danger. If you are looking for a guard dog that will become a loyal and loving family member, the American Masti-Bull is an excellent choice! However, like all breeds, the American Masti-Bull is susceptible to certain health conditions. Some of the most common health issues seen in American Masti-Bulls include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and cherry eye. Hip dysplasia is a condition that affects the hip joints and can cause pain and lameness. Elbow dysplasia is a similar condition that affects the elbow joints. Both conditions are believed to be genetic in nature and can be exacerbated by improper care or nutrition. Cherry eye is a condition that causes the third eyelid to become swollen and protrude from the eye. While cherry eye is not typically painful, it can cause long-term damage to the eye if left untreated. Proper care and nutrition are essential for all dogs, but they are especially important for American Masti-Bulls. This breed is prone to dental problems, so regular brushing and dental checkups are a must. However, they do have some specific nutritional requirements that need to be met in order for them to stay healthy and active. Puppies: Puppies of this breed need food that is high in protein and fat in order to support their rapid growth. The focus should also be on food that is easy to digest, since their digestive systems are still developing. This is to maintain their muscular bodies and active lifestyles. However, they also need easily digestible food since they tend to have sensitive stomachs. Senior Dogs: As senior dogs, American Masti-Bulls need food that is easy to digest and high in antioxidants to help keep their immune systems strong. They also need food that is low in calories to help them maintain a healthy weight. In addition to high-quality food, American Masti-Bulls may also benefit from a food supplement. This is especially true if they are not getting all of the nutrients they need from their food. Some good food supplements for American Masti-Bulls are omega-3 fatty acids, glucosamine, and chondroitin. Table scraps should not be given to American Masti-Bulls as they can easily become obese. This is a health hazard for them since they are already prone to joint problems. Overall, American Masti-Bulls need a food that is high in protein and fat, easy to digest, and rich in antioxidants. A food supplement may also be necessary to ensure they are getting all the nutrients they need. Treats should be given in moderation to avoid weight gain. American Masti-Bull — Are they friendly with other dogs? When it comes to other dogs, the American Bulldog Mastiff can be both friendly and aloof. They may get along well with some dogs but be standoffish with others. Due to their size, they may be best suited to being the only dog in the household. However, with proper socialization from an early age, they can learn to get along with other dogs. American Masti-Bulls are usually not aggressive towards other dogs, but they may become territorial if they feel threatened or if their family is threatened. Small dogs may view American Masti-Bulls as a threat, so it is important to introduce them slowly and under supervision. If you have another dog in the house, make sure to monitor their interactions carefully. This cross breed may also try to dominate other dogs, so it is important to be consistent with training and discipline. Overall, American Masti-Bulls can be friendly with most other dogs if they are properly socialized from an early age. These dogs are great with children of all ages and make wonderful family pets. If you are looking for a breed of dog that is good with kids, the American Masti-Bull is an excellent choice. Very young children or the elderly might find a large American Masti-Bull to be overwhelming. If you have small children or the elderly living in your home, it is important to supervise their interactions with this breed of dog. Otherwise, the American Masti-Bull makes an excellent companion for kids and families. Excessive barking can be a sign of underlying behavioral issues that need to be addressed. This makes them an ideal choice for many families, as they can be comfortable in both hot and cold climates. In hot weather, their coat will thin out, helping to keep them cool. In relation to hot weather, the American Masti-Bull is more tolerant to heat than most other breeds of dog. They can handle being in hot weather for longer periods of time and are less likely to overheat. Overall, the American Masti-Bull is a breed that is known for its tolerance to both hot and cold weather. This makes them an ideal choice for many families, irrespective of the climate that they live in. American Masti-Bull — Life Expectancy The American Masti-Bull is a loyal and loving companion, but like all dog breeds, they are susceptible to certain health problems. On average, they have a life expectancy of 10 years, but this can be shortened by health problems such as hip dysplasia and heart disease. By catching these problems early, you can get treatment for your Masti-Bull that can help extend their life. While this mixed breed is not yet recognized by the American Kennel Club AKC , it is growing in popularity as a family pet and working dog. The American Bulldog Mastiff is a popular crossbreed in the United States, and their pup prices reflect this popularity. This price range can differ depending on the specific breeder, bloodline, and coat coloration of the pup. For example, pups with rarer coat colors or those from show-quality bloodlines may cost more than pups with more common coat colors or from working lines. In general, though, most Masti-Bull pups will fall within the mentioned price range. Since mini Golden Retrievers are hybrid breeds, they have no actual breed specifications. Their coat color can vary from light cream to dark gold or red, with extreme variations in length. Their heights vary, but most are under 20 inches tall, males and females. Their weights can vary as well, typically staying anywhere between 30 and 50 pounds. With that said, mini Goldens do not always take on the friendly, happy-go-lucky nature of purebred Goldens. Since they are crossbred, they can have attributes of other breeds. Purebred Black Golden Retrievers do not exist but can essentially be created by mixing any variation of a Golden with a black Labrador, Newfoundland, or other breeds. The coat, height, and weight of a black Golden will vary because it is actually a mixed breed. Since many Goldens are bred with Labradors, they would likely be of medium-to-large build, with males or females anywhere between 50 to 75 pounds. Some Goldens may even be mixed with Newfoundlands, which would result in a much larger dog, weighing 80 to pounds or more. She communicated regularly with us, providing so many updates and videos along the way. We are so fortunate for her and her staff! Thank you Jen and Eagleridge Golden Retrievers!! Jen was always super responsive, knowledgeable and able to answer our many questions. We have had Kevin for about a month and a half now we got him in September and he is settling in perfectly. From the adoption process to the training program, we would absolutely recommend this breeder to anyone looking for a great experience! This FL boy is definitely enjoying the Northeastern Autumn! Furthermore, being a client since , I could honestly compare the experience from four 4 years ago to this present time. It was as stress free working with Jen Francis as it could possibly be! Although this breed is very popular, it is not currently recognized by the American Kennel Club. As long as they are well-socialized, Miniature Goldendoodles tend to make excellent family companions. They tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Although they will alert you of strangers at the door, they tend to warm up quickly as they are more interested in making friends and receiving attention. Mini Goldendoodles are highly adaptable dogs. Their smaller size makes them a great fit for apartment living or for bigger homes with yards where they can run. As long as they get enough daily exercise, mental stimulation, and attention, they can adapt well. These little dogs tend to do well in just about any climate. However, like any dog, they are sensitive to heat. Due to their smaller size, you may need to gear up with some dog-friendly winter gear when temperatures start falling. Because this dog breed is loyal and people-oriented, they love to be in your company and do not like being left alone for long periods of time. This means they can be prone to developing separation anxiety if you do not work with them on it early on. Instead, make sure your new Mini Goldendoodle puppy has an active role in your life. If you do need to leave them alone for a bit, make sure they have some comforting toys or challenging puzzles to keep them from getting bored. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests and clearances that have been done. The Mini Goldendoodles is a highly intelligent dog that picks up on things quickly and is eager to please. They tend to be sensitive to tone of voice as well. As long as training is consistent and focused on positive praise and reward, a Mini Goldendoodle will strive to be obedient and impress you and tends to excel at almost any task. These traits make the Mini Goldendoodle one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners and a good fit for owners of all experience levels. Daily brushing is recommended to remove tangles and prevent mats. Bathing is occasional and can often be relegated to the dog groomer that is recommended you visit every weeks. The groomer can help handle some of this during visits, but you will still need to do some maintenance at home between visits. Nail trims once or twice monthly keep nails from growing too long. Weekly ear checks with careful cleanings as needed help prevent ear infections. Daily brushing, plus cleanings at the vet as needed, is good dental care for dogs and can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. Although the parents of this breed have a lot of energy, a Mini Goldendoodle tends to sit in a more moderate activity range. Daily walks plus some playtime and time to run are usually enough for them. But, they are also likely to match their energy level to yours, so be prepared for some bursts of energy as well as plenty of cuddling on the couch. Fully-grown Mini Goldendoodles usually stand inches tall at the shoulder. A Miniature Goldendoodle puppy can vary in size based on the generation of the dog. The result is generally a dog that will range from pounds. Looking at the size of the parents for an F1 or F1-B puppy can be a good indication of what size to expect in a fully-grown Miniature Goldendoodle. Mini Goldendoodles generally live for years on average. Featured Mini Goldendoodle Article.

I am familiar with common and uncommon health problems they may face so when my boyfriend and I decided we were ready to adopt our own english puppy finding a reputable breeder that prioritizes health was most important to us. Erica and Mitch of Bruiser Bulldogs are just that. They are experienced, ethical and quality breeders. I was referred to them by my friend that I trust after I saw their gorgeous healthy puppy. Our Puppy Primrose is the light of our lives! Bruisers was there to assist us every step of the way. We would highly recommend Bruisers Bulldogs to anyone looking for their own happy, healthy pup! Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. They are experienced, responsive and knowledgeable about all things bulldog related. They went above and beyond for us and are truly dedicated to all of their pups! We love our little girl so much and would recommend Bruiser to anyone looking for a healthy beautiful bully. Jonathan E. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T. As English Bulldog Breeders, how do you breed for a healthier Bulldog? Like all things in life, breeding for health is simply a matter of priority. We are blind to many of the breed priorities that distract other bulldog breeders from improving the health of their Bulldog. We focus on health and personality and very little else. We are not interested in winning a blue ribbon in the show ring. Rather, we test for things like elongated soft palates, narrow tracheas, stenotic nares, luxation in the patellar tendons, heart defects, cherry eye, optic cilia, entropion, ect. We focus and prioritize creating healthy bloodlines, therefore our bulldogs are typically much healthier than the breed as a whole. After breeding for health, what other priorities are you focused on? Our true desire is to create the perfect family bulldog. We also believe a bulldog bred for the correct personality is essential to the family unit as well. A Bruiser Bulldog is bred for intelligence and playfulness. We want our bulldogs to be full of personality and some quirk. We believe a full personality along with a little stubbornness is the true North star of the bulldog breed and is what makes them unique among other breeds. We look for these personality traits in our adult bulldogs and continue to create bloodlines that reflect these qualities and produce high quality English Bulldogs for sale. I have been looking for English Bulldog Puppies for sale near me. Where are you located? We are located in the Northeast corner of Indiana. We just happen to be about 2. We are also about a 30 minute drive from the Michigan and Ohio state lines. Other major cities within 2. If you are looking for an English Bulldog puppy near you and happen to be in one of these areas we are certainly within close proximity. What if I am not located locally? Do you offer delivery services? A large portion of our adopters are located on the East Coast and Southern states. While many do make the drive to pickup, we also offer a delivery service to those with extremely busy schedules or limited ability to travel. We also utilize our own flight nanny for our West Coast adopters looking to have their puppy hand delivered. Whether through pickup or through delivery service, we try to be the type of bulldog breeder that is ethical and responsible to both our bulldogs and adopters. This price range might still increase, especially if you opt for a puppy from a champion bloodline or one with rare coat color. Compared to both cousin dog breeds, purebred English Bulldogs cost more due to the extra care needed during birth. A pregnant British Bulldog must be closely monitored once it reaches its final stages of pregnancy. Female Bulldog: Which Is Better? Besides papers and registry documents, bloodline, age, and coat color are also some factors that could affect the average price of your Bulldog. Here is a detailed list of the factors that affect the price range of an English Bulldog: Age: English Bulldog puppies cost more than seniors or adult dogs because they are healthier and more active. Senior dogs often have tons of health issues that need immediate medical attention, while puppies are a joy to be with because they are at the prime of their health. Gender: Female English Bulldogs may cost you a bit more than a male because of their breeding potential. Potential owners and Bully enthusiasts also request a female pup more than males because of their better temperament. The demand pushes the price of female English Bulldogs to a higher cost. Rarer colors like tri-color , merle , and blue English Bulldogs are typically much more expensive. Bloodline: A champion English Bulldog puppy might cost three to four times as much as typical English Bulldog puppies. They are known to exhibit the best physique, temperament, and health. Plus, they are perfect for competitions. Reputable breeders often have a long history of breeding success. Their high prices are also backed by health guarantees and other safeguards. Health Screenings: Before selling their puppies, many breeders evaluate them for health problems. They sell their puppy for a higher price if it is deemed to be in excellent health. Regardless, it is still a good idea to look for an English Bulldog puppy that comes with a health guarantee. With this list, you might already have your own cost estimation for the pup you want. English Bullies that have been rescued have already been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and have complete registration documents. Before being put up for adoption, they undergo retraining and behavioral rehabilitation as well. Rescues often house more adult Bullies as puppies are more likely to be adopted immediately. To help you in purchasing, we have compiled a list of all the initial expenses for owning an English Bulldog: Food and Treats: One of the basic items you should get for your English Bulldog is high-quality dog food and a few treat packages for on-hand training. You may need to buy a few of them to see which one works best for your dog. As a fairly slobber-ish canine, you might have a hard time cleaning leftover dog food from a cheap container. Bed: To prevent your English Bulldog from abnormal physical disorders, it is best to invest in a high-quality dog bed. A crate may also be a safe haven for your dog when you are not home or when you have visitors. Leashes and Collars: Some of the first things you should get for your English Bulldog are leashes and collars. Be sure to get one that is a good fit for your dog. Metal nameplates included in these items that are less likely to corrode might cost a little extra. Toys: Chew toys that are easy to pick up and clean are ideal for English Bulldogs. Choose interactive and sturdy toys that will stimulate their high intelligence and withstand their strong jaws. Grooming Essentials: Brushing English Bulldogs a few times a week should keep them looking nice, and their shedding would be manageable. Cleaning moisture that could be trapped under their wrinkles is also a must. Nail clippers and a doggy toothbrush are good investments, too. Initial Vet Visits: English Bulldog puppies require initial vet examinations to ensure that they are healthy. Dog License: For an English Bulldog puppy, a license is a necessity. The dog microchip should have all your important contact information as the owner, increasing the chances of your Bully being returned to you as soon as possible if they get lost. Despite their ancestry, English Bulldogs are not ferocious anymore but laid back and affectionate. Bulldogs are one of the most recognizable dog breeds in the world. They are medium-sized dogs with low-hanging, thick bodies. They are perfect for inexperienced owners due to their relaxed personality, moderate exercise needs, and easy grooming. Of course, there are some negatives to owning English Bulldogs, like health problems caused by their flat muzzle and their unusual body shape. This is the English Bulldog price range for a puppy from a small-scale but reputable breeder. Gasping at these numbers is an appropriate reaction, but there are multiple reasons why Bulldog puppies are so expensive. We will cover the high costs of breeding later, but the price of English Bulldogs also depends on market laws — the popularity of the breed drives the price up. Four British Bulldog puppies on a run While the adorable Bulldog is low-maintenance in terms of grooming and exercise, various health problems can make them expensive to care for. You should also avoid buying puppies from pet shops since they usually come from puppy mills. Buying a puppy directly from a reputable breeder is the best way to go. Ethical breeders provide health screenings for their puppies and answer all your questions regarding their parents, breeding, and living conditions. Bulldogs from reputable breeders cost more due to high breeding expenses. Other breeding costs include genetic testing, vet bills, and preparation expenses. On the other hand, when you adopt from a Bulldog rescue, the dog is usually spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations. Age: Caring for a newborn Bulldogs takes time, money, and energy. Older puppies or adolescent Bulldogs will cost less than newborns. Gender: The price for female English Bulldogs might be slightly higher in some cases, but the difference is usually negligible. Coat Color: Coat color can seriously affect the price of the dog because some colors and patterns are pretty rare. Standard coat colors include white, fawn, red, brindle, and their combinations. Bulldogs with these colors and patterns fall within the average range price. Meanwhile, rarer colors and patterns are more expensive. The newest colors, like merle or lilac, are even more costly. These numbers are based on the essentials like supplies, food, grooming costs, medical expenses, training costs, with microchip and license included. Replacement costs of these types of goodies will range based on how quickly your Bulldog destroys their current supply. You can also order subscription packs from many reputable companies that give your dog new exploratory items every month. Since these dogs are at risk for many health complications, save as much as you can—erring on the side of caution. The best time for obedience lessons is between 6 months to a year, but every trainer varies in preference. Depending on the treatment, you could spend thousands of dollars in one swoop. Pet sitting is more personalized care but can rack up extra fees. If you want to save as much as possible while still giving your Bulldog the care they need, look at these money-saving tips. They mainly offer spay and neuter surgeries at reduced costs, but they can also provide basic care. You can make anything from dog toys to intricate beds. Many things you can make may not even require going to the store for materials—you can simply make them from existing items at home. Auto-Ship Dog Food If you buy your dog food from certain websites, many companies offer discounted prices if you place an automatic, recurring order. Of course, you can always save on English Bulldog costs by using low-cost services and making tons of at-home projects and toys for your pooch.
We may receive commissions from purchases made via our links. Labs with a double coat shed much more than those with a single coat, but how are you supposed to know which one your dog has? As a result, a double coat Labrador has an undercoat that makes them warmer, sheds more often, and develops dandruff. Double coat Labs wick moisture better, though. A dog with a single coat typically has thin hair rather than thick fur. This coat will show itself around your home, depending on how much shedding your dog does. You can brush your Lab and see their skin behind the comb. Please make sure they get plenty of shade on sunny days. They might not be as good of swimmers as double coat dogs. A primary evolutionary trait of dogs with a double coat is it wicks water off of their fur. What Is a Double Coat Labrador? Many dogs have two layers; The topcoat is usually made of hair, while the undercoat is made of fur. Fur mats and clumps together, whereas hair falls out in strands. A double coat Labrador has to deal with both, while a single coat Lab only has hair. Almost all Labradors have a double coat. Labradors are known to have a double coat, which is why many companies target this breed when advertising grooming kits. They can get exhausted from excess heat and exercise. I cover everything you need to know about what temperature range Labradors can handle here. Dogs with a double coat fare better in cold environments. Labradors originate from colder climates, which is why their insulation is crucial to their survival. Swimming, rainy weather, and similar conditions are no problem for a Lab with an undercoat. Read on to follow the three-step process to find out how many coats they have, why it matters, how to take care of them, and so on. Check beneath the visible layer of fur. This step can be challenging if your Lab has a short double coat because the layers blend together. Figure out the breed almost every Labrador has a double coat, so chances are your Lab is a double coat breed. If your Lab is a cross-breed with another dog with a single coat, you should check with a local vet. Orvis shows single coat dogs are better for warm weather, and double coat dogs do better in cold or mild weather. Also, remember that their undercoat can add more grooming and cleaning around the house. Owning a Lab is a lot of responsibility, and their double layer of hair and fur is part of the process. In addition, Labs are adaptive dogs and can learn to love most environments! Conclusion Now that you know the differences between single coat and double coat Labradors, you can learn how to care for your dog better. Remember to brush your double coat Lab more often and that almost every Labrador is a double coat dog. You can quickly find out which coat your pup has by looking under their topcoat. Hmm very interesting! Maisie is definitely not as super soft as she was when she was very little, and I think I noticed the softness difference maybe around 3 months. She used to be soft as a cloud, and then only her head was that soft, and I think now only her ears will stay that way for good. But she is definitely getting some sort of hair growth going on, as before it would be sleek and now has sticky out hair. She's pretty shiny but she seems to be taking after the working line in her pedigree parents weren't strictly show or working line, which I liked, but rather each were fairly moderate examples of the breed , so perhaps that's it? I'm interested to see what it will end up like because I have seen labradors with quite different coats. The sad thing about shedding where I live is that it is a "temperate" climate… so dogs like labs don't shed big twice a year and then somewhat the rest of the year… it's like they're in a constant state of losing hair, not quite as much as a moult, but not down to the level other labs might go to. But their double coats unite them. The Top Coat The first part of a double coat is the top coat. These are the hairs which are most like the coat of single coated dogs. The strands are thick and strong. For this reason, they are sometimes also called guard hairs. The purpose of the top coat is to: Repel water — whether in the rain, or swimming. Deflect things from damaging the skin, such brambles and low hanging branches. Catch dirt and debris before it can work its way into the undercoat or onto the skin, so it stays easy to brush away. The Under Coat The second layer of fur, which sets a double coated dog apart from a single coated one, is the under coat. The under coat, or base layer, of a double coat is dense and woolly. Undercoat hairs are much narrower, but more densely packed. Their purpose is to provide insulation from extreme weather conditions, so the dog can maintain a steady body temperature. Wolves — the wild ancestors of all domestic dog breeds — also have a dense under coat. So double coats are a wild feature, which double coated dogs like Labradors have retained throughout domestication. Many of the double coated dog breeds are working dogs. In particular, a lot of them are herding breeds and guardian breeds, who originally worked for long days on exposed grassland, in all seasons. Their coats protected them from rain and wind in winter, and also intense sunshine in summer. A double coat is also a feature of many retrieving breeds. Like herding dogs, they routinely spend long days outdoors. A thick double coat was especially valuable for waterfowl retrieving breeds, like Labradors. Their undercoat is so dense that they can swim into ice cold water to retrieve fallen game, and their skin will stay warm and dry. Finally, double coats even provide cushioning against some injuries. Working guardian dogs would occasionally have to see off hungry predators with sharp teeth. Retrieving dogs might have to run through tough vegetation like gorse. And the smaller double-coated terrier breeds originally had to race underground to trap or flush out prey. In all these situations, a dog with an undercoat is more padded against injuries than a dog without. Double Coated Dog Grooming Double coated dog breeds are frequently notorious shedders too. Although some, like the Miniature Schnauzer, are notable exceptions. This means that for a week or two, they shed their undercoat very profusely. The purpose is to replace it with an entirely new undercoat, more appropriate to the changing weather. To minimize the amount of shed fur which lands on your floors and furniture, double coated dogs can be brushed regularly. Some owners also use a deshedding tool such as a Furminator to take control of seasonal shedding. It also Helps to disperse oils from the root to the tip, keeping it in tip-top, shiny, waterproof condition. Removes dirt and debris. Improves your chances of spotting ticks buried deep down against the skin, before they can do much harm. It might also seem like a kindness in the height of summer. Some double coated dogs are safe to clip. For example the Miniature Schnauzer. Others should never be clipped. For example Labradors, German Shepherds and Huskies. On the contrary, it insulates their body from the sun, so their core temperature stays pleasantly cool. Do Double Coated Dogs Smell? But, if their coat does get soaked through, it traps moisture for longer. If they swim in open water, that moisture is likely to contain all kinds of algae and microorganisms too. Which can start to get a bit whiffy. So always make sure your Labrador is rinsed off and fully dry after a bath or swim. Brushing their coat will help to distribute natural oils that clear away odors too. This can upset the delicate chemical balance of their skin, causing itching and flaking. It can also make them more vulnerable to fungal and bacterial infections, which smell even worse! Are All Labradors Double Coated? Labradors are famous for having heavy shedding, double coats. According to the breed standard, all Labs should have a thick double coat. They might also need a waterproof coat to protect them from heavy rain, high winds or low temperatures. This article has some of our favorite Labrador apparel! Double coats require moderate amounts of attention and grooming. But, they make up for it by being extra cuddly too! Readers Also Liked. By Tom Massey Dec 09, A photo of shaved pets like a Husky, a Labrador, or Pomeranian may be comical because their long coats can be styled into fluffy shapes, but few things will spark outrage from knowledgeable pet owners like the topic of shaving your pets. The president of the California Professional Pet Groomers Association agrees that these stylistic shaves can be cute and funny. They also believe that shaving stops their frequent shedding. Neither is true. It could also make them uncomfortable. So, the only way to truly curb shedding is frequent grooming. Fur certainly does grow back, but the in-between can greatly irritate your pet. Labradors are notorious for being shaved, and many pet owners will passionately defend their right to shave their labs. However, the fur of any animal is an extension of their skin. It is an essential mechanism of protection from external factors such as the weather. Though Labs shed all year long, their fur will completely blow out twice a year. When Labradors blow their coats, they transition from a thick winter coat to a lighter undercoat meant to keep them cool in the heat. Conversely, in the fall, leading up to the winter, their undercoat blows out once more to make way for a warmer undercoat. The Double Coat Design Like a host of other double-coat dog breeds , Labradors have two layers of fur or hair. The primary, top layer known as a top coat is more wiry and rough or abrasive to the touch. Under this second, softer undercoat, there is a layer of fine hairs that run very close to the skin. The undercoat provides a fantastic summer cooling mechanism and winter insulation. In essence, the undercoat is protection, and when you shave your Lab, you strip them of this vital protection. Each hair follicle is attached to a muscle known as erector pili, which raises and lowers the hair in an ingenious natural ventilation system. Worse still, you could risk pulling back the follicle and opening it up to exposure through shaving. This is a prime gateway for bacteria or fungus to slip inside the skin. Fur grows back, and the soft undercoat becomes more coarse and frizzy and is more uncomfortable for your dog. Both layers are controlled by muscles that move the hair follicles up and down. Using these hair follicles, air moves through the primary and secondary coats. When you shave both layers, the quality of the fur that grows back is not as effective at conveying air in this natural cooling system. Melanin is crucial to protecting the skin from sunburns and the effects of UV rays. In fact, the reverse is true. The only solution to shedding is proper grooming. It reduces the amount of fur your Labrador will shed at home. It also helps to distribute natural oils across his fur, making it shinier and healthier over time. Share on. But those layers of fur also keep them cool in the summer, and insulate them from warm air. Their coat serves an important function when they go diving headfirst into the river. Next time you take your lab for a swim, keep an eye on how fast they dry. You would think that thick coat would act like a sponge, but because of their water repelling nature, all excess water efficiently runs off. Natural oils are what keep their coat smooth and shiny, so the last thing you want to do is to deprive them of that natural barrier. Which brings us to our next important point: bathing. The short answer: as little as possible. The long answer: bathing your lab too often can strip away those natural oils that help protect them, leaving them with dry, flaky skin that becomes itchy and uncomfortable. So the ideal time to bathe your dog is when they become a little too stinky, or rolls in something less than attractive. When it is time for a full bath to remove some stink, use a mild oatmeal or coconut based dog shampoo that helps keep skin moisturized. Labrador Shedding Do Labs Shed? Oh yes. They shed an impressive amount of coat during the entire year. But it varies from one Labrador to another, and you may get lucky and find your dog sheds considerably less than others. This is a healthy and perfectly normal response. Shedding is a natural process in which many animals including you lose old and damaged hair. So have your vacuum and lint rollers ready. These are definitely shedding dogs. If your dog is suffering from allergies, mites, or skin conditions, they may scratch their fur off. Contact your vet to determine the best course of action. Keep your dog in a comfortable environment, a stressed out dog will naturally shed more. During routine brushing, run your hands over their skin and search for any abnormal lumps or bumps. Labs are prone to developing tumors, especially as they age. These are not always cancerous, however discovering and examining these bumps early can help you and your vet determine the best course of action. Can I Shave my Lab? No, shaving your lab can be detrimental to their health and overall comfort. Some owners mistakenly believe that shaving their dog during hot weather will help them be more comfortable. However, double-coated dogs require their coat to regulate body temperature, protect them from weather, and to act as a natural barrier against harmful UV rays. Also, some allergy sufferers believe shaving your dog will reduce allergic reactions. Again, not true. Allergies are triggered from pet dander, which are particles of skin that shed all year. In fact, shaving a dog may make allergies worse, as you expose their skin even further. Do Labs Have Hair or Fur? You might see me use both terms, just know that they mean the same thing. Are Labs Hypoallergenic? Definitely not. Allergies towards dogs are developed from pet dander not hair , and labs certainly have a lot of it. There are many hypoallergenic dog breeds to choose from , but if you really want the Labrador personality but without the allergic reaction, then consider getting yourself a Labradoodle Labrador-Poodle mix. Coat Colors A yellow, chocolate, and black lab. Yellow labs come in many shades, from a deep orangey color to a faded nearly white yellow. These are sometimes mistaken as Red and White, but are essentially Yellow Labs and are still recognized colors by Kennel clubs. In very rare cases there are Brindle Labradors , again Kennel standards consider this a fault. Brindle is unique orange or tan color markings that appear due to a recessive gene. Skin problems will need to be properly addressed and treated. Labradors are especially susceptible to allergies, and red and itchy skin are common symptoms. Labs can be obsessive lickers and scratchers, which over time will cause them to scratch their own fur off, leaving bald spots or patches. What Has Your Experience Been? What do you do to keep their skin and coat clean and healthy? Related Posts. Labradors are famous worldwide for their heavy shedding double-layer Coat. However, these organizations also recognize a sparse undercoat or no undercoat at all. This, in simpler words, means that even though Labradors are meant to have a double-layer coat, there are a few of them with a single coat as well. Although Labradors with single coats are very rare, they do exist in a small recognizable number. Double Coat Vs Single Coat Labradors Comparison Labradors are double-coated dogs with a coarse outer coat and a soft yet thicker undercoat. The double-layer Coat is an asset for Labradors, and not only is it visually appealing, but it also serves many practical purposes. This outer layer has thick, strong, and coarse hair strands , which are also known as Guard Hair. During the heavy shedding season, Labs often shed the outer layer in the form of strands. At the same time, the second part of the Double layer coat in Labradors is the undercoat. This layer is more likely dense, woolly, and soft, unlike what you may observe in many dogs around. The inner layer or undercoat works as an excellent insulator that keeps Lab warm during winters and simultaneously cools during summers. During the heavy shedding season, Labs often shed their undercoat fur in the form of mats and clumps. The water-proof protection also comes in handy during weather conditions like rainfall and snowfall. Labradors are meant for surviving in colder climates, and thus their Double Layer Coat promotes insulation. It keeps the dog warm regardless of how harsh the outdoor conditions are. However, the insulation of coats keeps them protected even from heat, but in case of no grooming and brushing, their Coat can prove as a source of heating. According to the breed standards in the dog shows, individuals participating with Single Coat Labradors must be severely penalized. No breeder produces Single Coat Labradors on purpose since such dogs are regarded as inferior. Single Coat Labradors most likely show their skin under the Coat, the only layer of the Coat. It may appear similar to a human scalp with less hair. Single Coat Labradors have a longer hair growth cycle, and they do not shed very often. Single Coat Labradors are prone to UV damage and skin irritation. How do I know if my Labrador is single or double-coated? If you have got your Labrador Retriever from a reputed and certified breeder, you definitely have a double-layer coat dog. It is extremely rare that a certified breeder will ever breed a single-layer coat Labrador on purpose, given such dogs can find many surviving challenges in the real world. However, even if by any chance you get to grab your hand on a single-layer coat Labrador, you can spot the difference very evidently. Labradors with double-layer coats appear fuller and fluffier due to a denser undercoat. Whereas Labradors with single-layer coats appear weak, and you can easily spot their skin under the Coat. Despite how physically fit they are, these Labs will appear malnourished, like any street dog or abandoned dog. A single Coat means one layer of fur and nothing underneath. Such dogs often need a human-made second coat for insulation during harsh winters. At the same time, dogs with Double coats have a separate undercoat and top Coat, whereas the inner one is made of soft fur and the outer one is made of thick, coarse hair. Given their dense Coat, such dogs are well-suited for mountain regions. Example of Dogs with Single Coat Greyhound.

Use Positive Reinforcement Positive reinforcement means giving something pleasant to your German Shepherd when they perform what you want them to do so that they learn to associate the correct behavior with the reward. The more this is repeated, they will remember and do it more often. The reward is a reinforcing motivation. In the above example of redirecting your GSDs biting to a chew toy, once he accepts the toy and starts to chew or play with it, you then offer lots of enthusiastic verbal praise and reward with a treat. Again, timing is important, and this must be done instantly so that your German Shepherd will recognize or associate his behavior with the correct action. You can give other rewards, but these may be more suited to older pups, adolescent dogs, or adults. Alternatives could be giving them a special toy, playing their favorite game, such as fetch, or taking them on their favorite walk. Always use lots of verbal praise in parallel to the reward you choose. You will, no doubt, soon get to learn where your dog prefers to be pet. Go here for more guidance on where to pet your German Shepherd. This is also useful when your German Shepherd starts to put his mouth around your possessions or furniture, ready to have a good gnaw! Using a time-out can effectively discipline a German Shepherd for biting and other undesirable behaviors. A great way to do this is to grab their collar, push their bum down, and make them sit. The idea is that your German Shepherd will quickly learn to associate that the fun stops when his nipping starts! As always, timing is critical, so your pup learns what he has done wrong at the precise moment. For very young puppies, you should only put them in time-out for a few seconds, between 7 and 10, and no longer than 30 seconds. At the end of the time-out, redirect your pup back to play and use lots of verbal praise or offer a training treat for good onward behavior. You must time the click at the exact moment your pet is doing what you want to reinforce. If you quickly reward your dog with a positive experience such as a treat, he will soon learn to associate the noise of the click with great things. The idea is that you condition your German Shepherd so that when he hears the sound of the clicker, he knows he has done something to please you. In the case of puppy biting, we are simply rewarding the puppy for choosing not to bite. You can achieve this by using the distraction technique described above. When the puppy makes the right choice and starts to bite on his chew toy, he hears the click and gets his treat. Look out for other symptoms such as drooling more than usual, bad breath, loss of appetite, or sneezing. If you are consistent and patient with your methods, you will achieve great results. Be firm but fair, which also helps to strengthen the loving bond between you and your dog. It leads to fear, avoidance, hurt feelings, guilt, stress, anxiety, and lack of trust. Owners should use positive reinforcement methods as much as possible. In another year-long study by the University of Pennsylvania, researchers found that using confrontational or aversive methods to teach aggressive dogs did not work. The dogs continued to be aggressive until the training methods were changed. The same study found that punishing techniques and dominance-based training, such as hitting or kicking, growling, or yelling at your dog, can cause aggression, as stated by Meghan E. An even more recent study in companion dogs suggests that using even mild punishments like yelling and leash-jerking can stress dogs out more than dogs taught using reward-based training. This stress causes negative consequences and poorer welfare. Alpha rolling is a controversial and outdated technique that physically puts your dog on his back or side in a submissive position to show that you are dominant or the Alpha. This old-fashioned technique is a form of positive punishment and was often used to house-train pups. Many people will have used this method decades ago without success, but at the time, they believed it was the right thing to do. For a positive punishment to work, the problem is that it has to be administered during or immediately after the act within 2 -3 seconds ; otherwise, the dog will not make the connection. Sometimes puppies naturally get over-excited and overtired. When this happens, instead of using the crate as a punishment, lure him into the crate with a treat offering lots of praise and letting him go down for a nap. If you feel sorry for your German Shepherd after disciplining him, you must never reward him out of guilt. Again, this only confuses your dog. Remember to be firm but fair. While a muzzle can prevent your dog from biting, it is not a solution to the underlying behavior issue. Muzzling your German Shepherd without addressing the root cause of their biting can lead to further behavioral problems and may even make the situation worse.
