Christina Donnelly is a small animal expert focusing on dogs and writer with over 12 years of experience in animal welfare. In fact, golden retrievers have snagged the third spot for most popular dogs in the United States for the last several years! These pooches are on the larger side females range between 55 and 70 pounds, while males weigh in between 65 and 75 pounds and require lots of exercise, which may make some families shy away. But don't let their size—or high energy—deter you. Golden retrievers are highly intelligent, easy to train compared to other breeds of dogs , and incredibly friendly. Whether you're already a golden puppy parent or considering adding one to the family, read on to learn some fun facts and see some seriously cute photos! One even surmises that goldens are descendants of Russian circus dogs! These alternate theories were debunked, however, when the personal records of Lord Tweedmouth of Inverness, Scotland were made public. Lord Tweedmouth was an avid waterfowl hunter who wanted to breed a dog with some serious bird retrieving skills. So, in , he bred a yellow retriever named Nous with a liver-colored Tweed Water Spaniel named Belle. The result? A pack of puppies with the exact hunting skills he was looking for, which he dubbed golden retrievers. Golden retrievers were later brought to North America—sometime during the s—where they became hugely popular for their beautiful looks and sweet personalities. Then, in , they were officially recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club. Continue to 2 of 9 below. They can range from a very light, snowy white, to a yellow-gold, to a dark, coppery red. No matter the color of their coat, however, it's important to never cut your golden retriever's hair—doing so can put her at risk of skin cancer, among other health issues. Their coats are made up of two layers—the long, silky, waterproof outercoat and soft, warming undercoat—and act as insulators against all types of weather. So, if you think to trim your golden's coat in the summer to keep it cool, think again! It'll be much cooler and its skin will be protected from the sun with its coat intact. Continue to 3 of 9 below. Bred to fetch waterfowl, golden retrievers love a good swim session but would be just as happy with long walks, games of fetch, or even agility games. Aim for about one hour of exercise each day, but keep your dog's age and activity levels in mind—you may have to adjust accordingly. Continue to 4 of 9 below. If taken to a rescue site, for example, they can quickly learn how to perform search and rescues to help those in need. In addition to their smarts, golden retrievers' downright sweet demeanors make them the perfect pick for therapy dogs. They can bring a lot of comforts—and joy—to people who have experienced traumatic events, are living in hospitals, or are stressed out during college exams. Continue to 5 of 9 below. Their love of food can cause health problems like obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease , so it's important to feed your golden the right amount of food for her weight, age, and activity level. Not sure how much is right for your dog? Talk to your vet about a healthy diet. And take it easy on the treats! It's true that goldens love to eat, but they like to carry non-food items in their mouths, too. Their mouthy nature makes everyday stuff such as sticks, shoes, or even the remote control a highly prized possession. Because golden retrievers have very gentle mouths, challenges such as the golden retriever egg challenge—in which a golden is tasked with holding an uncooked egg in its mouth without breaking it—have popped up all over the web. Continue to 6 of 9 below. Tons of major movies, such as the "Air Bud" series, "Homeward Bound," "A Dog's Purpose," and even thrillers such as "Poltergeist" and "Friday the 13th" have goldens in the credit roll. What's more? There are a few golden retrievers in presidential history, too. Presidents Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford had goldens during their presidencies. Golden retrievers are often considered the all-American dogs, so it makes sense, right? Continue to 7 of 9 below. Todd, the sweet golden pictured here, is one of those puppy heroes. During their hike, Paula nearly stepped on a rattlesnake—and when the snake lunged at her, Todd jumped in front of her to protect her. Although Todd was bitten on the nose and had severe swelling in his face, he's expected to make a full recovery. Because of his heroic deed, the internet has hailed Todd as a very, very good boy. And believe it or not, Todd has found a way to be an even better boy: He has a GoFundMe page to help other heroic doggies who have suffered from the same injuries. Continue to 8 of 9 below. Even in their senior years, it's not uncommon for older goldens to keep up with their puppy counterparts. Continue to 9 of 9 below. And for good reason! Not only are they adorable, but they prove goldens are some of the sweetest puppers around, too. Of course, this is not entirely unsurprising when they are puppies. What do we mean when we say a dog is cute? The definition of cute is attractive in a pretty or endearing way. So, cute is a common word used with Golden Retriever puppies. How could it not be? The Golden Retriever puppy is amazingly adorable with its big goose-down fur, stubby legs, and oversized head. The Golden Retriever is a unique dog. Even in adulthood, they warrant the label of cute. That cuteness arises both from its physical attributes and from its personality. Their personalities are without comparison in the dog world. And endear themselves to us they do. Sweet Personalities To describe a Golden Retriever is to define a pleasant, kind, gentle, and charming dog. Yes, charming. Golden Retrievers are also sensitive and dislike conflict and drama. In addition, they possess a playfulness born out of there always live in the moment, positive attitudes, and love of life. It stems from his ability to charm anyone coming through the door with his sweet personality. And, like the majestic lion, when people think of a Golden Retriever, their long coats of gold are often one of the first things that spring to mind. And for a good reason. The coat is gorgeous to look at and soft to the touch, making it hard not to pet a Golden Retriever. As puppies, their fluffy fur makes them look like they just came out of the dryer. Bernard, or Golden Retriever, the best stuffies are long-haired dogs. With the Golden Retriever, their longer double furry coat made of gold imparts a fluff factor to them. And that fluff factor equates to cuteness. The fluffier the fur, the greater the cuteness factor. There are still 16 reasons other reasons why Goldens rank high on the cuteness scale. Ah, the eyes. How often do we, as humans, compliment someone based on their eyes? Golden Retrievers are highly intelligent, deep-feeling dogs. When happy, playful, or mischievous their eyes express a personality of joy and fun that, at the moment, is the epitome of cuteness. Or, it can be in a calm moment when a Golden Retriever is mellow and detached from the drama of a household. Captivating Smiles The Golden Retriever smiles when happy and relaxed, and a captivating smile it is. Smiles can be infectious, captivating, seductive, and even cute. And so it is with the Golden Retriever. And that smile, when it appears, is pretty darn cute and hard not to notice. Floppy Ears Ah, the Golden Retriever ears. Their ears look like the Golden Retriever is perpetually wearing a big pair of Golden ear muffs. No, the floppy ear may not be as expressive or reactive as ears that point or get pricked up, but make no mistake, the floppy ear group gets the nod on the cuteness scale. The floppy ears add an adorability factor. Be it that they wobble back and forth or frame the eyes, head, and mouth better, the floppy-eared dog is a hallmark of cute and adorable. As puppies, their floppy ears are unmatched in the cuteness factor. A Large, Roundish Head The cuteness factor is exceptionally high in dogs with large round heads or heads that are large in proportion to their body size. Consider human babies, which have the same big round heads, which are large in proportion to their body size. They also have big eyes. So, is it any wonder the Golden Retriever is considered a cute dog? With its oversized round head and big soulful eyes, framed with floppy ears, you have a recipe for a cute dog. Especially as puppies, the proportionally big head in relation to the body, causes the Golden Retriever puppy to be adorably uncoordinated complete with tumbles and face plants. In adult dogs, round faces are often softer and gentler looking than more pointy or well-defined heads such as a Doberman or Pitbull. Even the large St. Bernard or drooling Newfoundland dogs have a smooth, gentle aspect due to the floppy ears and big round heads. And, those floppy ears and a longer coat seem to add to the plumping of the head, softening it, which in turn ratchets up the cuteness factor. And it is something to behold and is the epitome of cute. What is the full-body wiggle? The full-body wiggle is a Golden Retriever wagging its whole body starting from the tail, moving through the butt into the front shoulders and head. Wiggle is. Typically, the full-body wiggle is accompanied by a love growl discussed later , bark, or some vocalization of joy. Yes, the full-body wiggle is an expression of pure and utter joy. There is no other word for it other than cute when you see it. Enthusiast Greetings Golden Retrievers bond closely with their owners, and they hate to be separated from their people. After being away from their Golden Retriever, most Golden Retriever owners will tell you that one of the things they look forward to is the enthusiastic greeting they get upon returning. The greeting from a Golden Retriever is a party. The dog may jump, bark, growl, and squeak in pure joy. It may run around the house, grab a toy, or roll on its back, smile, and wiggle. Usually, the full-body wiggle is combined with its freight train-like charge to greet you. The greeting is an explosion of pure energy comprised of pure joy. It almost borders on crazy. But it sure is cute!! Love Sponges According to Urban Dictionary , a love sponge is, so sweet and charming, not to mention magnetic and captivating, that they soak up and attract others, with their enchanting ways… soaking up love like a sponge. Or put another way, Golden Retrievers love, love. They love life and pretty much everything and everyone in it. They hate conflict and drama. They love giving love, and they love getting love from almost everybody, including strangers, the old, the young, men, women, children, dogs, or cats. They, indeed, are love sponges. Bailey shows some love to the cat. Yup that is a pretty apt description of the Golden Retriever. And, make no mistake, that sweetness and charm are pretty darn cute. But, consider this. You see a Golden Retriever do the trick, like roll over and play dead or dance for a treat! For example, when I take my Golden Retriever Bailey to doggie daycare, he gets so excited to go to his favorite place. Golden Retrievers are one of the easiest-to-train dog breeds. That is owed mainly to their high level of intelligence number 4 in the dog world, according to Stanely Cohen. Additionally, they are biddable willing to learn and follow instructions. So, whether you consider a nifty trick or just a well-behaved dog cute, the Golden Retriever has the smarts to be trained to rise to the occasion. Golden Retrievers love to play. That playful exuberance starts in puppyhood. Golden Retriever puppies are highly energetic and matched in cuteness only by their just-out-the-dryer fluffy fur, large heads, soulful eyes, and captivating smiles. And, make no mistake, Golden Retriever puppies have lots of energy. Golden Retrievers are a few breeds of dogs that take that playfulness well in adulthood. Lovable Brats What do you get when you take a dog that loves to play, is exceptionally smart, has an abundance of energy, and decides to put those qualities to work to entertain itself or even sometimes you? You have a mischievous dog. You have a Golden Retriever. You have a lovable brat. You may find your Golden Retriever shredding the toilet paper off the roll, stealing your shoes, or waiting out of sight beside the stairs to pounce on the cat when it comes up. Often these bratty hijinks are born from not being mentally stimulated or exercised enough, i. But often, boredom has nothing to do with it. Instead, the dog is just being silly to engage us. And they know a mischievous prank will work just fine. Or the dog knows we find it funny, just like a young child who is being silly or even mischievous because we find it endearing and adorable. Bailey kidnapped a shoe and decided it was cuddle-worthy. Those hijinks are born from a keen doggie intellect, a sweet temperament that is perpetually happy, loves life, enjoys having fun and is goofy discussed below. Yes, this happened. My niece tried to get it back from him, which escalated into a game of chase around the room with the kids laughing hysterically. While my niece was chasing him, she had the biggest smile and was trying unsuccessfully not to laugh. Golden Retrievers are sweet dogs that are love sponges. Which, as we discussed, means that they enjoy giving and receiving love. And when the time comes, which is frequently, they are masters at cuddling. Often the Golden Retriever will rest its head on your lap while gazing into your eyes. Speaking of watching TV, that can often be prime cuddle time for the Golden Retriever, as it snuggles with you on the couch. But cuddles can come anytime and be anywhere. And, when the Golden Retriever is in cuddle mode, they are adorable. It stems from the dog being in a calm and serene state combined with being in love sponge mode. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, their soft long fur makes them especially cuddly for those times you want to cuddle these golden furballs. Cuddling goes both ways, right? These same traits also play a part in their behavior when the desire to be kooky strikes them. And, when their desire to be nutty strikes, it can be very cute. And these furry goofballs can get you smiling and laughing without warning. Golden Retriever owners take no insult when others call our dogs goofy! The love growl or pleasure growling is not at all aggressive. The dog may play bow or full-body wiggle. Often, other Goldens make more of a love whine or love howl. Regardless of their own unique sound, the meaning is the same, joy! Oh, and the love growl is adorable. Their Love of Balls If you have a Golden Retriever, there is a good chance that your dog has an obsession with balls, especially tennis balls. Their love of balls can border on obsession, and watching them ga-ga over a ball is adorably cute. Why so ball nuts? It has to do with their breeding as retrievers. The dog was literally bred to play fetch things, go out and get an object and bring it back to me, in assisting hunters, which was the purpose they were bred for, downed waterfowl or game birds. Golden Retrievers love their tennis balls. For us non-hunters, that instinct is still there. And fetch aligns with that innate drive. But, where does the ball come in? The ball, in a way, mimics a small furry animal. It is fast, scoots along the ground when thrown, and has erratic motions as it hops and bounces all over the place. Plus, tennis balls have fur. Not unlike a squirrel or bunny. If you are interested in finding out in detail why Golden Retrievers are obsessed with balls, then take a few minutes to read this article: The Golden Retrievers Obsession With Balls: Solved! When Bailey wants to play, he will bring me an object and sit in front of me with it in his mouth. Bailey when he wants to play with his ball or watch him chase his ball without abandon. Sometimes, he picks the ball up and runs like a crazy dog, the ball zoomies, as I call it, and he only stops briefly to shake the ball before sprinting off again. Canine Kleptomania: Their Love of Stealing Things Rounding out the list at number 17 of why Golden Retrievers are so cute is they love to steal things. Golden Retrievers love to steal things. And their dog burglar ways are in their genes. As we previously discussed, Golden Retrievers were bred to assist hunters in retrieving waterfowl. Part of the breeding was also to gently take the birds in their mouths and softly hold them not to damage the prey while returning it. So, stealing things is the Golden Retriever expressing its deep-rooted instinct to go get things and hold them softly in its mouth. However, what makes it so cute is that it often is done in unison with trying to get attention, being playful, or being mischievous. Then to add in a good measure of cuteness, it throws in some full-body wiggles, and love grows. Because stealing things can be for purposes other than being mischievous, this cuteness trait deserved a standalone mention. For example, often, they will steal things to bring them back to you, almost like they are bringing you a gift. Or, they will steal something when greeting you — they just have to have something in their mouths. No matter the reason, stealing things and often collecting them is so adorable that it must be added to the cute list. The video below is a great summary of all the things that make Golden Retrievers so cute. The first few minutes of the video below show a Golden Retriever greeting, complete with stealing a dish towel and love growls or is it a love whine? The rest of the video is just a Golden Retriever doing all the things that make it so cute and loveable, even as adults. Final Thoughts So, there it is. Seventeen reasons why Golden Retrievers are so cute. Taken separately or as a whole, each of these seventeen traits endears the Golden Retriever to us and melts our hearts or makes us laugh. And for those reasons, Golden Retrievers are such cute dogs!! We tried to take as many pictures as possible so we could have a journal of our Golden Retriever puppy growth week by week. When raising guide and service dog puppies we usually bring home our puppies at around weeks old. On occasion we are allowed to see puppies before 8 weeks of age, but they need to stay with their mother and siblings during those important early weeks to get milk and antibodies from mama and learn how to interact properly with siblings, learning important behaviors like bite inhibition. During our days as a foster we raised two litters of puppies , but both were already weeks old by the time we got them home. We actually own the Puppy Culture DVD and Workbook which includes charts, lists, worksheets and other great information for raising your litter. Keep your eyes and ears open and absorb it all like a sponge! Birth To 1 Week Old Guess what? This was the first litter we ever whelped!? We got a lot of advise, but we were largely on our own. Large Puppy Dish — great for feeding the puppies when they moved to solid food. Whelping Mats — we ordered 2 of these mats and washed them several times a day. Whelping Box — We have a homemade whelping box built by my father-in-law, but if we continue raising litters I plan on purchasing an EZWhelp Whelping Box. Our homemade box lasted three litters. We ended up purchasing the Magnabox which was hellu expensive but if you plan on raising multiple litters we highly recommend it. We recently put together a whelping checklist with all the supplies we gathered together to help out with our second litter of Golden Retriever puppies. Check out our whelping supplies checklist here. However, none were overly huge and none were extra small. No runts and no beasts. It was my understanding that when the cord was chewed down to the base of the belly it was sometimes difficult to get it to stop bleeding. I took the hemostat and pinched the umbilical cord about 2 inches from the base of the pups belly then cut the cord rather than let Raven chew it off. I kept the hemostat on the cord for about 2 minutes to let it clout. The umbilical cord dries up quickly and then within a day or 2 it falls off. Raven was a good mama and took care of her poops. Puppy eyes and ears are closed at this stage and puppies army crawl around the whelping box looking for a teat to suckle. We did everything we could to make sure our pups stayed warm by adding a watt heat lamp to the whelping box and portable heating unit in the puppy room. As I mentioned Raven stayed in the whelping box most of week 1 and of course… the puppy piles! One thing I learned is if I had a puppy on my lap then do not let Raven lick those areas or be prepared for a little accident on your lap. While caring for Raven and her litter Raven was really blowing out her coat that first week, but as time went on it slowed down. I heard from other friends this is common and that Raven blew out her coat much less than other mama dogs. We got Probiotics for Raven before her first litter, but forgot to order them for her second litter. After an upset stomach for the first week or so we realized our mistake, got Probiotics, and no more upset tummy. Week 2 — Pups eyes are opening starting to waddle. Week 3 — First bark! Some of it is biological and some reasons have to do with training or lack of it. In moments of distress or pain, a boxer may also cry. Adult boxers may be crying for different reasons than young puppies. As such, below I will outline some of the most common reasons in both age groups. Boxer Puppies Boxer puppies cry, and they cry a lot. As you try to understand why your pup cries so much, understand you must determine his crying is for a valid reason, and once you meet all of their needs, you must teach him to self soothe. Crying and whining can go from being away for your puppy to communicating to fast becoming a nuisance habit. For boxer puppies between 10 weeks and 12 months, learning a new schedule concerning feeding walks, exercise, etc. Every dog is different, some bark loudly to vocalize how they feel, others whine or cry, and some hardly make a sound. Feeling Cold Or Uncomfortable Puppies need to feel safe, and they need somewhere warm and cozy to rest away from their play area. Senior dogs must have a quality bed, but equally boxer puppies need a quality bed. Make sure that your boxer puppy has his toys and chews close by. Feeling Claustrophobic Boxers often feel claustrophobic, and as puppies they whine or cry when placed in too small a space, putting them in a pen is a better option. If a puppy feels even a little hungry, he will make his owner aware continually in the loudest manner possible. Often puppies can feel too intimated in front of their new humans to eat. If a human stands too close to their dish, they may not eat. Background noise and even drafts can cause stress and make them lose their appetite. Adult Boxers If a boxer continues to cry into older age, then it is likely to be for specific needs that are not being met at least according to your dog. First and foremost, boxers are a very communicative and social breed. They are quick to express their voices in specific situations. Below are the most common reasons why they may be seeking your attention: Separation Anxiety — Separation anxiety is one of the most common problems found in Boxers — especially younger ones. They love being with people and it can be hard on them when they are alone. Crying is a coping mechanism for when they are alone. Stress — Boxers may alleviate their stress by crying or whining. This could be emotional or physical; so it can range from a noise to a persistent problem they may have. Appeasement — Your dog wants to make you happy and if they are not feeling that you are on their side, they may resort to crying. Uncertainty — This is likely to occur when you meet new people, other animals, or dogs for the first time. This is mainly a confidence issue. Excitement — Boxer owners often find their dogs crying when they are most excited. Sometimes this can even happen as you go for their lead prior to a walk. This is a learned behavior in which your dog recognizes whining gets them the attention they are seeking. Frustration — Boxers may also cry when they are annoyed at something that is happening to them or around them. Pain — Your dog may also be in pain, and crying is trying to alert you to this. Generally, this is most common in older dogs or those with injuries. If you suspect that your dog is in pain or has hurt themselves, you should take them to a vet at the earliest opportunity for a full examination. They will be able to provide you with an appropriate course of action. In time, and perhaps with some medication, crying may cease altogether. Trained Behavior — Boxers, like other dogs, can even be accidentally trained to communicate with their owner during particular events e. Many owners often find they have inadvertently trained their dogs to cry during these times. How To Stop Your Boxer From Crying In the previous section, we mentioned that boxers can cry for a multitude of reasons and at different times in their life. However, crying is more common and is most likely to be experienced in boxer puppies because they are adjusting to their new surroundings, and it takes time. If your boxer continues to cry after the adjustment period, you must get to the root of why they do this. You can teach them to understand you always return home by pretending to pick up your keys, leave the house for a few minutes, and come back again. In time, they will figure out that he can trust you to go back home after being away. Equally, never leave your home for too long a period of time. If you need to do so for whatever reason, consider getting a trusted neighbor, friend, or family member to pop by every couple of hours to check up on your dog, give them some attention and let them outside to stretch their legs. Provide A Safe Space For Anxiety If your dog feels uncomfortable around loud noises or too many people, you can provide them with a safe, quiet room, where they can retreat and regain their composure. An ideal spot could be your bedroom or an area of the home that is quiet and spacious. Prevent Stressors If you have owned your boxer for a long time, you will become sensitive to the situations that stress them out. Stressors could be as simple as not having enough water to drink, missing their favorite toy, being bored, etc. Build Your Dogs Confidence For Appeasement If you notice that your boxer is trying to appease you, then they are likely suffering from low self-confidence. The two most popular ways to instill confidence in a shy dog are: To enroll them in obedience training that is primarily reward-based, Play lots of fun interactive games with them. Greet Calmly For Excitement If you notice your dog is crying or whining when they see you, they are likely doing so because they are excited. In some cases, greeting crying or whining can become overbearing. You can calm your boxer by greeting them with a calm demeanor. When your dog sees how you respond, they are likely to copy you. Another strategy is to not give your dog too much fuss as you come into your home. Spend some time taking your shoes and coat off before visiting your dog. Socialize From A Young Age Socialization is the key to stopping a lot of unwanted behavior in your boxer like excessive crying. The best time to socialize with a pup is from birth to 4 months. You can begin doing this by inviting family and friends to bring their dogs to play with your pup. You must get to know their dogs before introducing them to your puppy, make sure to invite non-aggressive, friendly, and already socialized dogs. Equally, you can head to the park when your dog has had all of its vaccinations. Let them meet and greet other dogs so long as this is okay with other dog owners. Finally As you can see, boxers cry for numerous reasons. Crying is mainly a compulsion for boxers as puppies rather than adults as their life is turned upside down and the environment changes quite dramatically during this time. Thankfully, this is an ideal time to train your dog and nip this type of behavior in the bud. Many unwanted dog behaviors, such as excessive crying is a result of improper socialization from an early age. It is crucial to socialize your boxer at the earliest opportunity. Dogs that received adequate socialization from an early age display more confidence, friendliness, gentleness, and less neediness, therefore they cry a lot less. Overall, socialization improves the health and happiness of your boxer and it leads to a much better-behaved dog. With this being said, there is also the possibility that your dog is injured or is experiencing pain. If you ever suspect this to be the case; then visiting a veterinarian is the best course of action. Boxers are vocal dogs due to the way in which they were initially bred and what this breed of dog was used for. Although crying, barking, and whining are no longer required, it is still a natural instinct in this breed of dog as a way to communicate. Effective obedience training and socialization are essential to reduce the likelihood of your dog making noise unnecessarily. Why Are Boxers So Cuddly? Boxers are known to be a very affectionate breed of dog, who bond very closely with their owners. Because they develop a deep connection, they naturally feel the need to get more of your attention than what other breeds desire. Related Boxer articles you may want to see:. Boxer Puppy and Dog Whining Issues Overview Dogs have an array of vocalization and we may never understand exactly what is going through a dog's mind when he is vocal; however one of the most perplexing sounds is whining. This sort of whimpering may last for hours. Boxers of any age may do this; though puppies often have very different reasons than adult dogs. In this section we are going to discuss: Reasons why a Boxer puppy whines and steps to take to stop it Reasons why an older adult Boxer may whine When a Boxer Puppy Whines It's not a minute of whining that gets to you. It's not even 5 minutes. It's the culmination of minutes upon hours upon days. Your Boxer pups whimpers so much and so often that you've either come to the point where you're thanking your lucky stars your kids are grown or if you don't have children yet, you've sworn off ever bringing a baby into the world. You're ready to pull your hair out and if your Boxer puppy whines one more time, you're going to turn yourself in as an unfit dog owner. If you can relate to this, you'll be happy to know that there are reasons why a Boxer puppy whines and steps that you can take to stop it or at the very least drastically cut down on the whimpering while remaining a loving, caring owner. Brand New Boxer Puppies While bringing a new puppy into your household is a super happy event for you, it's a rather stressful one for a young Boxer pup. At this age, a pup is leaving his entire world behind. His life revolved around the dam and his siblings. Most of his interaction was side-by-side play, sleep and eating with his littermates. He was never alone and he was just starting to feel secure when it was all taken away. Don't feel bad - soon he'll learn that his new home - your home - couldn't be a better place. At this age, enough time has not passed for the Boxer puppy to understand his schedule. He's living minute by minute. You might wonder why he whines if he's hungry…"Doesn't he realize I feed him on time, all the time? Memory is ultra-short term at this time and there are not enough past experiences and events for him to depend on any type of care at this point. He's dealing with the stress of a new environment coupled with real needs and for this reason he does not hesitate to be vocal. The main reasons a new Boxer puppy whines is: Separation from his littermates - The bond between littermates is very close, as is the security a pup feels with his mother. Puppies do always adjust to a new home, however it is not uncommon for there to be whining the first few days simply due to feeling sad and feeling the brunt of the lost connection. He's hungry or thirsty - The environment of a new home and getting used to new humans can throw off a pup's appetite. The moment even a tinge of hungry begins, a pup may be vocal about it. Also, puppies may not eat enough to feel satiated due to one of several reasons. This may be due to many outside factors such as humans standing too close to his dish, too much background noise that's causing some stress or even a cold draft near the feeding area. In addition, pups this young may need to be led to the eating area. A quick reminder of where food and water is may be needed for the first couple of weeks. Be sure to choose a spot that is away from foot traffic and loud noise. In multiple dog households with more than one Boxer, don't expect a Boxer puppy to eat close to another dog. This can be very overwhelming and a young puppy may back down from eating if he interprets the setting to mean that an older, established dog has claimed the dining spot. Giving him his own corner, free from distractions will help him feel more secure. He's cold or uncomfortable - Puppies need a safe, warm area to spend their resting, sleeping and independent playtime or else they may whine due to a feeling of insecurity. Many owners make the mistake of thinking that only older, senior dogs need a quality dog bed. However dogs of any age appreciate a 'den' that consists of a properly sized canine bed, placed in a room that is frequently used by people but out of the way of foot traffic. If the pup feels too isolated, this can lead to whimpering and barking. The corner of a living room that is free from drafts is usually the best place to keep a Boxer puppy. Keep his toys and chews in that same area. This breed should not be crated. Boxers tend to be claustrophobic and a puppy will whine if he is put into too small of a space. A pen or gated off area works best. If your Boxer will be spending his days home alone, it can help to have this area gated off with the entrance open when you are home. This way, he'll become accustomed to 'his spot' and be more prone to accept being there once you leave the house. Boxer Puppies - 10 weeks to 1 Year It takes a couple of weeks for a puppy to start to learn his schedule of when he'll be eating, taken outside for walks and so forth; however this is still the most common age of whining. Each dog is different, some will bark to vocalize feelings and others will whimper. It's a coin toss as to which one causes more frustration for owners. But the good news is that there are some steps you can take to lessen this. The 4 main reasons a Boxer puppy won't stop whining: 1 Hunger. This is an all-too-common problem for new puppy owners. Dogs that cry in the crate at night are exhausting to deal with, and many of the solutions out there feel useless. If your dog has been crying in the crate a lot, you may be starting to wonder if crate training is worth all this agony. But crate training comes with some challenges — namely, lots of dogs cry or bark in the crate. As a foster dog parent, I expect dogs to cry in the crate for their first few nights. Just like with a new baby, expect there to be some long nights. Most dogs eventually settle down in the crate, but what can we do to help them learn to be quiet in the crate? Crying in the crate can be a very real issue, especially if you live in an apartment or are a light sleeper. Be sure to check out our complete crate training guide if you are just getting started with this process! The good news is, your dog is not actively trying to make you lose sleep or get you evicted! That said, there are a variety of reasons that dogs bark or cry in the crate. Luckily, the treatment for most of these underlying reasons is the same. Reasons why your dog might be crying in the crate include: Your dog is lonely. These dogs usually will settle eventually, but may start crying again whenever you move around. Your dog is bored. Crates can be a pretty boring place. Dogs that give steady barks at everything throughout the day are likely bored and need some stimulation. Your dog is scared. Some dogs are ok being away from you but are scared of the crate. They might not like the feeling of being confined. Your dog needs to get out of the crate. Almost all dogs that cry in the crate want to get out of the crate. But sometimes, a dog needs to get out of the crate. If your dog is normally quiet in the crate but suddenly starts to cry, look for a reason why. All of the reasons above are perfectly normal crate-training problems that can be fairly easily overturned with a bit of training and management. This is very different from true separation anxiety. Dogs with separation anxiety are thrown into a full-on panic when left alone. These dogs will need long-term management, training, and even dog anxiety medication to help with their condition. Dogs with separation anxiety need training and help. Talk to a trainer or veterinary behaviorist if you think your dog has separation anxiety — and make sure to check out our Separation Anxiety Training Plan too! Punishment gives a bored dog attention. Even negative attention could be a reward for the dog. Many dogs cry in the crate for attention, just like kids do. There are some better options for teaching your dog not to cry in the crate. How to Teach a Dog Not to Cry in the Crate Luckily, there are lots of things to work on to help stop your dog from crying in the crate. Many of these fixes are small things to change that can make a big difference for your crying, crated fur-baby. Crate training works best when you set up the crate properly. Leave treats in the crate. You can distract your dog by giving him stuffed, frozen Kongs in his plastic or wire crate. This easy fix will really help! I have four or five stuffed Kongs in my freezer at all times. That way I can just chuck a Kong in the crate with Barley whenever I run out for errands! Freezing them makes them last a lot longer. Feed dinner in the crate. I like to feed dogs dinner in the crate. Instead of putting their bowl on the kitchen floor, I just feed dinner in the crate. You can either feed the dogs their dinner when you leave in the crate, or you can let the dog out after dinner. Either way, this is an easy way to start building a good association between your dog and the crate! Put toys in the crate. My dog is a total squeaky toy nut, so at first, I kept his toys in the crate. He was rewarded for going into the crate by a quick bout of play. It was great to see him start to actually want to go into the crate on his own! Make the crate comfy. Make sure the crate is comfy with a comfortable crate mat , a safe chew toy, and something that smells like you! Ensure the crate is the right size. The crate has to fit the dog correctly. Your dog should have room to turn around and stand up comfortably, but not much more than that! Place the crate in a common area. A simple fix for these dogs is to put the crate in your bedroom at night, near the bed. They build up to that level of independence. Some trainers recommend playing crate training games to help your dog learn that the crate is a great place to be. I no longer recommend this because it may teach your dog that being in the crate is exciting, and we want the crate to be a relaxing place instead. This is especially true for teenage dogs around 6 to 18 months old. Be sure to give your dog an age- and breed-appropriate amount of exercise before even attempting to put him in the crate. For a young puppy, this might just mean running around the backyard for a few minutes. As a benchmark, my five-year-old border collie generally gets a three to ten-mile run or a twenty-minute nosework session before I leave for work. No wonder I lost weight when I adopted him! Most adult dogs will need at least a 20 to minute walk before being left in the crate. Check out our list of games to play with your dog and suggestions for activity walks to get ideas for how to properly tire out your pup. We can teach our dogs that crying in the crate gets them a potty break — and nothing else. In a way, yes. So rather than attempting to ignore your crying puppy for five hours, I want you to take your puppy out when he cries in the crate. Stand outside in one place for two minutes, tops. Just wait. If he potties, give him a treat and go inside and put him back in the crate. No talking, no playing. Just a quiet, quick potty break. This method has several major benefits for teaching dogs not to cry in the crate: It teaches your dog what to do and how to get what he needs. You avoid the risk of breaking down and letting your dog out after hours of crying which teaches your dog to cry for hours. Should you squirt your dog with water when he cries? Should you ignore him? Or should you take him out on a potty break? Whatever method you choose, stick with it. I recommend teaching your puppy that crying gets him a boring potty break. That said, if the cry-it-out method is working for you, be consistent with it. Leaving your pup for longer than he can handle. This means that you might need to get help with crate training at first to let your puppy out often enough. Teaching your puppy that crying gets attention. Ensure that you stick to the plan of taking your puppy directly outside, totally ignoring him for two minutes, and taking him directly back to the crate. Anything extra might teach your puppy that crying in the crate gets him playtime, affection, or attention! Some dogs cry it out for hours, every night, for weeks. This method is far more humane for you and your dog. Are you giving your pup enough exercise? Does he have a frozen Kong to chew on? Are you leaving him for too long? When working with dogs that have a really bad time in the crate, you may have a long road ahead of you. Go back to the basics of step one and two. Could you be using something else for the same goal? Some fantastic alternatives to crate training include: Exercise Pens. Indoor dog gates can be used to safely confine your dog to a small subsection of the house, like a laundry room or bathroom. Opt for a room with easy-to-clean flooring that still gives your pup more space to feel comfortable. This provides all the safety and contaiment benefits of a crate, but without a bulky cage! If you need to stick it out through crate training but are really struggling, consider a dog walker or doggie daycare. We love feedback! Your dog is crying because they are distressed and are uncomfortable in the crate. Crying can get the pup a potty break, but noting else. You may want to also consider adding frozen Kongs, chews, or licking mats that can help soothe your dog while inside the crate. How long should you let puppy cry in crate? Should I let my puppy cry in crate at night? If your dog is consistently crying in the crate at night, try adding extra physical exercise and mental enrichment before putting the pup in the crate for the night. Also try moving the crate next to your bed, as some pups are much more comfortable when they are physically closer to you. Should I let my puppy cry it out? No, we do not recommend letting your puppy cry it out. Some dogs will never stop crying for days, weeks, or months if you ignore them because they are in a state of extreme distress. Like it? The Golden Shepherd tends to be a friendly, energetic, and affectionate dog that is loyal to their family and tends to be protective of them. Although they are not recognized by the American Kennel Club, they are recognized by other notable organizations like the American Canine Hybrid Club, Designer Breed Registry, and more. A Golden Shepherd tends to bring the all-around friendly personality of the Golden Retriever and the intelligence and devotion of the German Shepherd into one dog. They love their families and tend to get along with everyone including children. These dogs are not necessarily suspicious of strangers, but they are alert and will tend to bark if they see something they feel you need to know about. Golden Shepherds are moderately adaptable dogs. Because they are high-energy, they tend to do better in homes with yards where they can run. They can adapt to apartment living as long as plenty of time is dedicated to giving them the daily exercise they need. They tend to do well in most climates. But, as with any dog breed, they are sensitive to heat. Because Golden Shepherds are devoted to their families and thrive on spending time with them, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. A mixed-breed dog can inherit the potential health issues common to one, both, or neither of their parent breeds. As a larger, barrel-chested dog breed, the Golden Shepherd, like their parent breeds, is also at a higher risk for bloat. The Golden Shepherd is a highly trainable dog breed. They are intelligent, eager to please, and pick up on things quickly. This makes them a good fit for owners of all experience levels. Puppy training classes can still be a great idea because they offer opportunities to socialize a puppy while also strengthening your bond with them. The Golden Shepherd will have a thick double-coat that sheds moderately year-round and more heavily twice a year as seasons change. A quick daily brushing, especially during seasonal shedding sessions, will help remove loose fur to make your dog more comfortable and also help keep more fur contained to a brush instead of everywhere else. Bathing is on an occasional, as-needed basis. Monthly nail trims are usually enough to keep nails from growing too long or causing issues. Plus, if anything is starting to happen, you can get the vet before it gets more serious. Because many dog owners overlook this, gum disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. Brushing teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day is ideal. The Golden Shepherd comes from two high-energy dogs, so they require a lot of daily exercise to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime and time to run are the minimum. But, a Golden Shepherd will likely be up for more activity if you are. A trip to the dog park for some off-leash time, playing frisbee or chasing a ball, hiking, swimming, running, and more can all help this dog expend some extra energy. You want to keep their activity low-impact as they are still growing, but once they finish growing, try different activities to see what you both love doing together. You could even try training them for dog sports! A fully-grown Golden Shepherd usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. A Golden Shepherd generally lives for years. Parent Dogs: The German Shepherds are extremely intelligent dogs with a strong desire to work, which makes them great candidates for police or working-dog duties. They were originally bred in the German state of Bavaria during the 19th century to herd sheep, guard property and act as an all-purpose farm dog. German shepherds are extremely loyal and protective of their owners; you could even say they sometimes overreact about protecting you if they sense danger. This loyalty has also turned German shepherds into popular family pets today. Golden retrievers on the other hand were developed by hunters in Scotland during the 19th century as a gundog. Golden retrievers were bred to be an obedient and loyal dog, which meant they made great companions for hunters who needed a dog that could fetch lost game and return it without damaging the meat! While German shepherds make great guard dogs and golden retrievers make great hunting and retrieval dogs, German shepherd and Golden Retriever cross breeds or German Shepherd Golden retriever mix can bring together the best qualities of both breeds — obedience, loyalty, friendliness — into one pup! If not provided with enough exercises German shepherds can become destructive and hard to handle. German shepherds are a large breed so they require a significant amount of daily exercise, but Golden retrievers have been developed as family dogs throughout the years and have retained their desire to please people which also makes them great candidates as working dogs. This breed was originally bred in Germany by crossing German Shepherds with Golden Retrievers because the dogs were used to work on police and military duty. They were later exported to America in the s but this did not stop them from becoming popular across the world. A German Shepherd Golden Retriever mix is a wonderful type of dog to have. They only sleep about 10 hours every day and will fit right into your lifestyle. German Shepherd Golden Retriever Mixes are usually very protective of their owners and will fiercely protect both children and the home front from strangers. They can be trained as police dogs, guide dogs, search and rescue dogs or as pets. Physical Appearance Golden Shepherd is a medium-sized dog with long golden fur. You might find that the Golden Shepherd has the same appearance as other dogs, but because its hair can be difficult to maintain, it should not grow too long because you will notice the difference in the physical appearance immediately. German Shepherd Golden Retriever mix is one of the most popular family pets around the world, along with Labrador retriever family pet parents. The Golden Shepherd has a nice square face that covers its nose and jaws. Its ears are small and medium in size, listening to the instructions given by caregivers closely. Golden Shepherds have a long neck with good length. When seen from above, the head of the ear is slightly pointed down towards his eyes. This shape looks like an inverted triangle when viewed from above. Their hair can be short or long depending on your preference as their caregiver. Some people say it will look better if their hair is longer because they give them an elegant look. Basically, they are one of the best family pets, caring, loving, and loyal. They are highly intelligent too which makes them always fun to play with kids or other pets in the house. Temperament of a German Shepherd Golden Retriever Mix can be easily trained as both breeds are easy to train breeds. These dogs are good-looking, friendly with children, make them the perfect choice for your family. A German Shepherd Golden Retriever Mix has a high activity level so sometimes these dogs need extra physical activities to keep them free from boredom. German Shepherd Golden Retriever Mix can be easily trained as both breeds are easy to train breeds. They are active, friendly and love both children and other dogs! A quick note about their care requirements- these pups require someone who will be with them all day due to separation anxiety which you can take steps towards solving by creating an environment that does not make the animal feel alone or suddenly abandoned when left at home for long periods such as taking them out regularly. This individual needs regular exercise such as running around with friends after work; this helps release endorphins making it more likely one would stay healthy. However, like any other dog, they can become ill and it is important that you do everything possible to ensure your pet remains healthy and happy for as long as possible. Common Health Issues Of German Shepherd Golden Retriever Mix No breed is perfect and the popularity of a certain breed only means that there will be more dogs with problems. German Shepherd Golden Retriever Mix is one of the most popular dog breeds in the US, with over 30 years ranking first among all breeds registered with the American Kennel Club. The most common problem in German Shepherd Golden Retriever Mix is hip dysplasia, which can cause lameness and arthritis later on. If possible, buy from a good breeder who has tested their animals for hip problems. You can also have your own dog tested when it is old enough. The German Shepherd Golden Retriever mix is generally a healthy breed, but there are some conditions from either side of the family that may develop. Some of these include: Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus GDV — formally known as bloat — where the stomach becomes extremely enlarged and twisted, this is fatal if not treated immediately; owners should know the symptoms and be prepared for an emergency situation or know what signs indicate this condition so they can seek medical attention at once if their pet exhibits them. The causes for this life-threatening problem are still unknown but it mostly affects deep-chested dogs like the German Shepherd Golden Retriever mix. Hip Dysplasia — dogs with this condition will walk with a peculiar gait that is noticeable once you know what to look for; they often have difficulty rising from sitting positions and seem uncoordinated. There are many possible causes but if your dog suffers from hip dysplasia it can significantly reduce his quality of life by causing him pain and discomfort, it may also shorten his lifespan. Osteochondritis Dissecans OCD — this sounds very complicated but all it really means is that the articularilage of the joints does not fully cover the ends of the bones; it is more common in large breed dogs like the German Shepherd Golden Retriever mix. You should brush your pet daily so you can find out if the problem lies with his diet because there may be no need to wash him more often than usual. Best Diet For German Shepherd Golden Retriever Mix The German Shepherd Golden Retriever Mix is a large to giant dog with an average weight of 65 pounds and 20 inches in height, but the designer dogs are known for their flexibility in terms of size. So, what kind of diet does your pooch require? Well, there are some things you should know about his age, breed, and health condition if any… which will help you decide how many calories he needs on a daily basis. Golden Shepherds are known to be more active than the average family pet. A Golden Shepherd loves to exercise- more or less- depending on its energy level. Also, keep in mind that she will need more calories as she grows older. Sometimes these foods can harm your pet. Adult German Shepherd Golden Retriever mix should be fed 3 times a day. However, if he eats very slowly, you might consider adding 1 or 2 extra meals because the German Shepherd Golden Retriever Mix has a tendency for over-eating which can lead to obesity very quickly. Obesity is harmful to any dog breed and can decrease its lifespan drastically even by 5 years. In fact, the German Shepherd Golden Retriever mix has a double coat which means he will blow his undercoat once or twice per year and lose huge amounts of hair in the process. This makes him a poor choice for those who suffer from allergies as it can be difficult to control dander and loose hair around your home. However, these dogs do tend to require less grooming than many other breeds as their coats are not as long as those on certain other working breeds like the German shepherd. Brush them only occasionally with a firm bristle brush; if you brush too often you may cause their coats to become matted. They are likely to be shy when they are young but with the right training, owners can help them become more confident in new situations. These animals will benefit from early socialization with lots of different people, dogs, children, cats, strange noises etc. Make sure you start this process as soon as possible after bringing your dog home. Exercise Needs Any dog, particularly a working breed like the German Shepherd Golden Retriever Mix, enjoys a daily exercise in the form of walks or interactive play with its owner. A German Shepherd Golden Retriever Mix will need at least 30 minutes to an hour of exercise every day with his family. This dog needs time to run off-leash in a securely fenced area where he can explore new territory and work his muscles. Owners should never let their pets roam around unsupervised even if they are believed to have a good recall off-leash. It is also advisable that you take the German Shepherd Golden Retriever mix for a long walk or hike each day to satisfy his need for exercise and additional stimulation from the environment around him. This dog will make a wonderful hiking companion as he loves being outside with his family, particularly on sunny days when he can frolic in the snow or swim in a lake. But owners should always remember to bring water along as some dogs may become dangerously overheated after an excessive amount of physical activity. Working on training new obedience commands or tricks is the perfect way to keep your pet busy while satisfying his primal instincts. First of all, know that there is no one perfect method to train every dog in the world. Each dog has its own temperament and personality, it responds better to some methods rather than others. The instruction manual for dogs does not exist because each dog is unique. Therefore, when working with your German Shepherd Golden Retriever Mix, you have to remember that even if I give you a bunch of tips here, they may or may not work for your dog. You will need to play around with the methods and see what works best for your new four-legged friend. Second, you must understand that although Golden Retrievers and German Shepherds are both known as intelligent breeds, they come from different worlds. The Golden Retriever is an English breed and was bred to retrieve birds this explains their willingness to please and obedience , while the German Shepherd comes from Germany and was originally used by shepherds hence his protective instincts. Therefore, due to their origin and original task, these 2 dogs behave in completely opposite ways. For example, retrievers such as Golden Retrievers are used for hunting for birds in the sky, so they love taking things away and playing with them. Shepherds, on the other hand, were originally working dogs who needed to be aware of their surroundings at all times. This is why you should do as much as you can to train your German Shepherd Golden Retriever mix during his first 6 weeks of life or even earlier. His behavior will form during this period and anything that is not learned by then will become more difficult to teach later. On the other hand, if he learns something now it will be harder for him to unlearn it! Even though puppies are born with their eyes closed, they can still see just like cats and they start learning everything about their environment right away. Use this time wisely… Give him some space but make sure he knows where home is! This way he will learn how to find you when you call him or otherwise he may go looking for you when. You cannot imagine how often I see dogs who are lost because they followed a car or bike and never came back! Teach your puppy to walk on a leash as soon as possible, this will come in handy when you take him for a walk. This way he will learn how to behave around other dogs and people. This is because they are intelligent and have a lot of strength. The hybrid is also very easy to train because they use positive reinforcement training. The German Shepherd Golden Retriever mix is an ideal pet for people who do not want messy fur, drool or shedding because this hybrid does not suffer from any of these issues. They are also great with kids, other pets and strangers because they are naturally protective but will get along with anyone. The German Shepherd Golden Retriever mix is an extremely smart dog that would be great for active people. This is also the perfect breed if you live in a cold climate or if you want a dog that can work in the police or military. They are strong, loyal and easy to train. These dogs are beautiful, strong and intelligent which makes them very easy to train. They use positive reinforcement training methods that most people find effective. The German Shepherd Golden Retriever mix is an extremely smart dog that would be perfect for active people who enjoy working out because this hybrid combines the best features of both their parents. One of the main pros of this breed is that they have incredible leadership skills so they are trusted by police officers on duty in some parts of the world. Cons Of Having German Shepherd Golden Retriever mix Training and Socialization is a must with this breed, if not done correctly they can become aggressive towards people or other dogs, they are very protective of their family which can make them aggressive towards friends, strangers etc. They require a lot of exercise in order to burn off the excess energy they have. They are very intelligent dogs and can be stubborn at times which makes training them more difficult, if not done correctly it could lead to aggression towards other animals or people. They require a lot of attention and most likely will not be good for you and your family if you are gone often, they do not like to spend time alone. They can also become bossy or pushy which can lead to aggression unless the owner is able to control the dog. Another con is that they shed a lot although it is not as much as a German Shepherd, if you are looking for a low shedding breed this might not be the best match. If done correctly they can become the best dogs to own but if not they can become quite destructive or even dangerous towards strangers or other animals. Keep in mind that every dog is different so what applies to one may not apply to another. Take everything you hear about breeds with caution because there are always exceptions out there. For example, you can save money on spaying or neutering fees, and your pet will already be housebroken when it gets home. Additionally, the German Shepherd Golden Retriever mix is known for being highly intelligent dogs who tend to get along well with children. It takes work, study, knowledge about genetics, and much more to produce healthy, happy dogs when crossbreeding. Unfortunately, not everyone who does their research ends up with a healthy pup. They may get a pet worthy of a loving home or a stud for a breeding program but they may also get an unhealthy hybrid whose life can be cut short by genetic problems. No one wants that. As one of the most popular hybrids, the German Shepherd Golden Retriever mix is recognized as a hybrid of the world famous German shepherd and Golden retriever. This dog is usually referred to as a breed that has many talents. By studying more about this dog you will quickly realize that this is not only an intelligent but very loyal family pet with a good temperament. The father is always a German Shepherd and the mother can be either a purebred Golden retriever or another crossbreed such as Irish Setter, Labrador retriever, Siberian Husky, Labrador retriever, or any other breed with similar characteristics. This is a very popular dog breed that gained instant fame among celebrities, professional athletes, and ordinary people alike.

Goldendoodle Adoption Advice Owning an adopted animal always requires a special touch and caring. If you are looking for a Goldendoodle, you already probably know about their size and boundless energy as well as why they make such great pets. What you may not know, though, particularly if this is your first Goldendoodle, is the unique set of skills needed to ensure your Goldendoodle ownership is as mutually beneficial for you, your family, and the dog as possible. Why Adopt Rescues? The best answer to that is because they need you and you want them. You may not know the exact dog you want or have in your mind what its exact personality will be like. You do, though, know that you want a dog to love and care for. Rescue animals, of all animals, need both of those things. Another reason is that there is a surplus of dogs in shelters and rescues across the country. Why not get one from a shelter and give it a second chance? You give the animal a new lease on life by adopting it and you ensure that it gets the love and attention it deserves. Advice Before Adopting In addition to whatever challenges your new Goldendoodle brings to the table because of the type of dog they are and their situation in life, there are also several practical things that you should know to help you give them the best life possible. Here are some tips to help you prepare for your Goldendoodle adoption. If You Have Children Goldendoodles are exceptionally patient and always up for a good time. If you have young children, you do not need to worry about the dog, as long as your children understand they need to be gentle with it. While a Goldendoodle is a patient breed with children, every animal has its limits. Additionally, when your children play with or pet the dog, they need to remember it is a big dog that frequently does not realize how big it is. While your dog will not intentionally hurt anyone, they can inadvertently knock things and people over or step on either and do damage and never quite understand how. As a parent and Goldendoodle caretaker, you need to teach your kids how to behave around the dog. You also need to learn the warning signs from the dog if it is getting irritated, upset, or anxious. Understanding when your animal is getting anxious lets you head off any potential conflicts. Set Behavior Limits Most rescue dogs will very quickly try and establish a territory in your home. Unless you are ok with the dog going where it wants, you will need to set boundaries to avoid behavioral issues. The boundaries should prevent the dog from entering the restricted area, not merely make it difficult for them to do so. If you do not set limitations very quickly, your Goldendoodle will take over the entire house. A good way of figuring out what you need to do is to follow the same type of checklist as you would when you childproof a home. Cover any electrical outlets and floor level cabinets should have safety latches, clothes picked up and put away. Goldendoodles are very inquisitive and that means that left to their own devices, they will get into lots of stuff if it is not secured. Goldendoodles will get into any food they can find, so move any food above the level where they can reach. Maintain Contact with the Rescue The personnel you interact with at the rescue know your dog. They also are experts at managing animals. If you are having issues with your new pet, call the dog rescue and ask them if they have any advice. While they will not likely train you in Goldendoodle management, they will have ideas on general animal behavior and how to mold it. Cost of Adopting Generally, every dog rescue operation will have an application fee that covers medical checkups, shots, and any other expenses related to caring for the dog while it stays at the dog rescue facility. In addition, there might be a fee to set up a visitation with a dog. The application fee varies from organization to organization but it will run you several hundred dollars. The application fees also go for the general administration of the operation. That covers transporting shelter dogs, any facilities management, and paying staff. Tips on Gaining Rescue Approval Be honest on your application and when answering any questions. If dog rescue personnel do a home visit, straighten up by all means, but no one expects your home to be pristine. A lived-in home is more desirable for a rescue dog primarily to help reduce any potential stress. Another tip to gain approval is to make your love of animals clear. Most rescue personnel and volunteers tend to animals and want them to be in homes that are a good match. Finally, give your landlord if you have one and any personal references a heads up that dog rescue personnel may call them. Advice for New Pet Caretakers Remember that as you adjust to having your new dog, they are adjusting to you and your new surroundings. That might make them stressed, irritable, or even frightened. Patience with a new pet is vital to making sure the pet acclimates correctly. Getting them into a routine as soon as possible is also a good idea. Routines give both you and your new pet structure, which will make the entire acclimation process go smoother. Take your time with introductions to other people or animals. Remember everything you encounter is new to the Goldendoodle. Ease them into social interactions and let them dictate how those go. Moreover, you can also try to look for rescues in other nearby places such as Florida Fl and Georgia Ga. Final Thoughts Did you enjoy our list? He was rescued alongside his sister, Piper, from Screven County, Georgia and both of them could not be more excited to live in New Jersey with their new forever families! Arko, being the handsome boy he is, loves to be pampered and showered with affection. He enjoys running around outside in his fosters fenced-in yard and has the perfect amount of active energy. Arko hopes to have an active forever family who will love to go on adventures just like him. He also hopes to have a fenced-in backyard at home too. Arko loves to run around outside with his foster canine friends. It's one of his favorite past times! While Arko would get along great with other playful dogs at home, his energetic personality is too much for any cat. He would do best at home with no cats and older children or those with prior dog experience. Arko enjoys going on long walks and meeting everyone in the neighborhood. Arko hopes to have his very own spot on the couch or his own dog bed at home to relax in after a nice long day of adventures and exploring. He is eager to please and cannot wait to continue his crate, leash, and house training at home. Although, Arko's foster mom says that he is a master of all three! Apply on our site today to adopt Arko - www. Arko is neutered, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and microchipped. All adoption applications must be completed on www. They will want to be with you. Have a crate or bed next to your bed for at least the first few weeks while you get them into a Puppy night-time routine. Here is how to get a puppy to sleep through the night. Alone Training Teaching your Pug puppy that they can be totally fine being left alone can be done with stuffed chew toys, time and patience. Remember to do it slowly to avoid any stress! Toilet Training Training Practically every website you read may tell you that Toilet training your Pug puppy can be a challenge. As with alone training, start sooner rather than later. Of course, if they run into any birds, butterflies and hear planes flying over, it will be great for them to get acquainted already. Have fun gathering surfaces with different textures for them to explore, like synthetic grass, tiles, and soil. Use treats! Remember to use lots of treats and praise when training. They love making your tail wag! Repeat their name to them a lot in the first week, so it really starts to click. Recall — How to teach your Pug puppy to come back when called — This is important for safety. Pugs generally stay close, but they can be very friendly and want to run up to people and other dogs for a bit of a cuddle, so a good recall will always help. But they can enjoy fetch games on a smaller scale, get on the floor and interact and play with your Pug puppy to learn what they enjoy. This will help to avoid resource guarding. Husbandry Tasks Pugs love affection but should be handled with care. Be mindful to not treat them like toys. Not going to blame children to think they are toys though — the resemblance is uncanny. To do this we want to teach them that hands will do nice things to them so use plenty of treats when handling your puppy. Week 2 — Training your Pug puppy Week 2 already! Now, I have to decide which Pug puppy to bring home. I'm so nervous that I'll choose the wrong dog. How can I possibly know I am choosing a Pug puppy that is the best one for me? They're all going to be so cute! Answer: Hi Ashley. We agree that all of the puppies are going to be adorable and cute! However, there are definitely some guidelines that you can follow when you are trying to pick out the perfect Pug pup. We are not sure if it matters to you if you have a male or female. There are not that many differences, despite what others may say. While potential health problems may not be visible, there are 3 things that everyone should do: Check the eyes, breathing and gait. The Eyes: The eyes are not only the window to the soul, they can also give you a clue about the health of the dog. Watering, squinting or a glazed film on the eyes is a sign of health issues. Breathing: Hold the puppy close to your ear and listen carefully. Do you hear rattling and rasping? This is a sign of a breathing problem. Does the puppy have to breath through his or her mouth? If the puppy is at rest, they should be able to breath fine with their mouth closed this can be a stenotic nare issue, which often needs to be corrected with a surgical procedure. Watch the puppy walk: While young pups under the age of 6 weeks may still be gaining their footing, take note of any limping or odd gait issues. If you do notice an odd gait, listen for any clicking noises coming from the hip area. This sort of issue may be caused by underdeveloped hip bones joint and socket , a health problem not uncommon with the Pug breed. Interaction and Activity Some people will tell you that you should pick the puppy that comes right over to you first. This is not the best advice. Puppies that are very bold like that may be harder to train. Their enthusiasm may be great fun for a while, but keeping up with and trying to train such a puppy may turn out to be stressful. When you are choosing a Pug puppy, it is usually best to choose one who is quiet and calm. However, you most certainly need to make sure that the pug is not too quite due to an illness or extreme shyness. You don't want to bring home an ill pup and choosing a dog that is overly shy may make for a pet that is afraid of everything and will be in need of extensive of socialization training. It is recommended to have a close look at several puppies that stay in the background. If a Pug puppy is laying listless without any energy at all, this is a warning sign that the dog may be unhealthy. A calm Pug that does respond to you when picked up is what you should be looking for. Listen to the breathing for any signs of labored breathing or rasps. If the breathing is clear, take a look at the eyes. They should be bright and clear without an excessive discharge. With 2 or 3 puppies now left for you to decide on, take a look at how each one responds to you and how they respond to each other. Wiggle a toy in front of a puppy or whistle to him or her and see if the pup shows natural curiosity. The one for you should come over to you to investigate. Allow the whole litter to play with a toy. Take notice of the ones that seem to be bossy and the ones that seem to play fair. Take note of the ones who cower in the corner if the others fight for the toys. You will want to choose a Pug puppy who falls somewhere in the middle. This will ensure you have one that has a calm, yet curious personality. Finally, when you have it narrowed down to 2, do not feel rushed. Take time to sit down with each and talk to them. Does the pup look at you when you talk? Does he or she keep their tail high or wag the tail to express happiness? At this point, you should get a good feeling about which puppy is the one that is meant for you. Please remember, that just because you have an appointment to pick up a dog does not mean that you must go home with one. If the litter seems ill, all of the dogs seem aggressive or you do not feel a bond with any of the puppies it is absolutely acceptable to relay this to the breeder. While you may be very disappointed at first, in the long run you will be happy that you waited. When you are holding the Pug puppy that is right for you, you will know it. And what a lucky guy or girl that will be! Ready to begin his or her new journey as part of your family! All rights reserved. Chinese origins[ edit ] Pugs were brought from China to Europe in the sixteenth century. The pet pugs were highly valued by Chinese Emperors, and the royal dogs were kept in luxury and guarded by soldiers. In Tibet , Buddhist monks kept pugs as pets in their monasteries. Pugs were painted by Goya in Spain, and in Italy they rode up front on private carriages, dressed in jackets and pantaloons that matched those of the coachman. They were used by the military to track animals and people, and were also employed as guard dogs. His self-portrait , which is now in London's Tate Gallery , includes his pug, Trump. Every carriage I meet here has a Pug in it. Many responded to the breed's image of anti-functionalism and diminutive size during this period. The modern pug's appearance probably changed after when a new wave of pugs were imported directly from China. These pugs had shorter legs and the modern-style pug nose. The British aristocrat Lady Brassey is credited with making black pugs fashionable after she brought some back from China in .Hogarth's painting from the 18th century depicts the originally longer muzzle, as well as the picture in a edition of Brehms Tierleben. Since there has been a trend in some countries to breed "retro pugs". Following the deaths of pugs and other brachycephalic breeds, several airlines either banned their transport in cargo or enacted seasonal restrictions. Pugs have elongated palates. When excited, they are prone to " reverse sneezing " which causes them to quickly and seemingly laboriously gasp and snort. The veterinary name for this is pharyngeal gag reflex and it is caused by fluid or debris getting caught under the palate and irritating the throat or limiting breathing. Reverse sneezing episodes are usually not harmful, and massaging the dog's throat or covering its nose in order to make it breathe through its mouth can often shorten a sneezing fit. In serious cases, it makes breathing even more difficult and puts added pressure on the larynx. If this happens, one should inquire with their veterinarian whether or not surgery is needed to open the nostrils. If the prolapse happens on a regular basis, the pug might require surgery. This condition is caused when parasitic mites, that are often present in a dog's skin without causing symptoms, are allowed to do damage because their host has a weakened immune system. It is a problem for many young pugs, although not usually a major one, and is easily treatable, but some are especially susceptible and present with a systemic form of the condition. The condition occurs when two parts of a spinal vertebra do not fuse properly while a young pug is still growing, resulting in an irregularly shaped spinal cavity which can put pressure on the spinal cord. Pug photo, ca .Note its small head and long legs. A pug by Carl Reichert. The pug that was predominantly featured in the commercials was Cheeka. A few other adverts also appeared in the following months, inspired by the idea of a dog following a boy. Life Span Did You Know? The Pug, or Pug Dog, is famous for its flat-faced appearance and large, soulful eyes. They are an ancient dog breed that originated in China over 2, years ago. They were originally developed as a refined pet of Chinese royalty along with the Pekingese and the Shih Tzu. During this time, the Pug was considered a national treasure that outsiders could only access if one was gifted to them. Dutch traders from the s can be credited with bringing the Pug onto the world stage when they brought some back to Europe with them. The Pug made its way to the United States in the s. Now, the Pug is a popular dog breed worldwide. They are a popular companion that provides their owners with plenty of love and laughter from their comedic and playful antics. The Pug is a playful and outgoing dog breed with a charming personality. They tend to be very loving towards children and also get along well with other pets and dogs. They are a companion breed at heart known for their gentle nature and sociable personality. They love to give love and receive it in return. Their sensitive nature makes them intuitive as well and Pugs will often sense the moods of their owners and react accordingly. They crave attention and affection from their owners and are big fans of napping. This dog breed is often described as an ideal house dog and they are moderately adaptable. They will do well in homes of any size, including apartments. The Pug also adapts well to city or country life and are a good fit for singles or families of any size. Although they are highly adaptable to various living situations, they are less adaptable to climates. Pugs are very sensitive to the heat and overexertion, so they are best-suited to moderate climates. They also love to be with their families and will not be happy if left alone for a long time. As with any dog breed, the Pug has some health conditions to be aware of. In particular, corneal ulcers and dry eye are some potential eye problems that can occur. Additionally, Pugs can be susceptible to hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, and encephalitis. Asking the breeder about the genetic history of the parents and to see health clearances can help allay concerns for some of these health issues. Pugs are also big foodies. They love to eat! Their love for food means this dog breed is prone to obesity. As a brachycephalic dog, their large head and short snout often cause respiratory problems, which can limit their exercise at times and contribute to weight gain. This will cause them to quickly gasp and snort, which can sound relatively alarming. These episodes are usually not harmful as your Pug is just clearing their palate and throat. The Pug tends to be easy to train and is a good fit for owners of any experience level. They are eager to please their owners and tend to pick up on commands quickly. They are sensitive souls and their feelings can be hurt easily, so they will not respond well to harsh corrections. This dog breed responds best to consistent training that focuses on positive rewards and will benefit from participation in puppy training classes. Pugs have a smooth, glossy, and short coat. Their fur is fine and soft. Although their coat is generally low-maintenance, it will shed throughout the year. Aside from brushing, Pugs only need occasional baths on an as-needed basis. Because Pugs have ears that drop down, they can be susceptible to moisture, dirt, or debris. Checking their ears regularly and cleaning as needed helps to keep them healthy and comfortable. The same goes for their iconic face wrinkles. Daily brushing is ideal, but if your Pug is not allowing you to do that, a few times a week should be sufficient. Getting your Pug used to these grooming tasks as a puppy will help make it a positive bonding experience and a much easier process throughout their life. This dog breed has a low to moderate energy level. Generally, daily walks and some play sessions are enough exercise for this dog breed. They may have short bursts of energy as they have a very playful nature, but they will tire easily. Some Pugs can handle a little more activity and even compete in some dogs sports like agility, rally, and obedience. Make sure you check with your vet first before jumping into dog sports with your dog. A full-grown Pug will usually stand 10 to 11 inches tall at the shoulders and weigh between 14 and 18 pounds. This dog breed generally lives for years. The Pug was a popular pet of the Buddhist monasteries in Tibet. Featured Pug Article.

In addition to altering base coat color, merle also modifies eye color and coloring on the nose and paw pads. The merle gene occasionally changes dark eyes to blue, or part of the eye to be colored blue. Responsible breeders who want to produce merle puppies mate a merle with a non-merle dog; and none will have the vision or hearing defects associated with double merle dogs. Some of our dogs are available world-wide, and some are only available within the USA or only available outside of the USA. This can change at any time, so please check back at any time to see the current status. A tri carrier dog is a dog that doesn't show tan points, but can produce dogs that do. A great example of a tri-carrier dog is Triple Champion King Louii. King Louii is a lilac colored dog, and does not show any tri colors at all. But if King Louii is bred to a female that is tri, they can produce full tri-colored puppies. Tri Carrier means a dog has a single copy of the Tan Point trait heterozygous. We are looking for genetic defects within our dogs that could be passed down to their puppies. Within our program, you will see 2 different results. CRD4 is an eye condition that originated with long-haired Dachshunds, and is very common within our breed. It is estimated that over half of our breed has at least 1 trait. We wrote up an article on it, so please click below to learn more! COIs also track how related dogs are further back in the pedigree. Look back 10 generations in our own family trees and you are very unlikely to see the same name twice. This is not true for dogs, though. The same names can appear many, many times.

what size collar to get golden retriever puppy - Video: Shar Pei Lab Mix Puppies Temperament and Behavior These dogs generally have an even, protective, loving temperament which they inherit from their parents. If they take mostly to the sharpei side, they might at times be independent, dominant, alert, lordly and brave. Like their parents, they would try to protect their family members. They are emotionally responsive, loving, smart and kind. Though they are not aggressive to strangers, but would warn-bark if they come across intruders, strange noises or anything suspicious. Thus they make a good watchdog as well. They are good with kids and other pets provided they get the right training, and at the right age. This intelligent dog is ready to please you. However, in return, they would expect some attention and affection from their loved ones. They can adapt and establish itself very easily with family life, and thus makes a good apartment dog. Care Exercise Because they are average to large-sized dogs, the Lab Pei needs a pretty good amount of daily exercise. They need lots of physical activity all day, and a spacious apartment is always good for them. Their exercise requirements can be fulfilled through long walks and jogging. This should keep a balance between their physical and mental health, and prevent them from being flippant and destructive. They have a high playing instinct and would enjoy if they get an open yard to run and play around. But make sure the yard is fenced and safe before you untie your dog from its leash. Grooming Because they have a short coat, the grooming requirement for these dogs is moderate to easy. Brush them once to twice a week so as to retain the natural glow. Also, note whether your dog does not enjoy water like its sharpei parent. In that case, bathe it very rarely, may be once a year, if you think they are really untidy and in need for one. Dogs with wrinkles are susceptible to skin infections. If your pet has some wrinkles, cleaning them regularly by wiping the folds with a moist cloth. Rest of the grooming part, including nail-trimming or brushing teeth, are similar to other pet dogs. Health Problems Just like most other cross breeds, no breed specific issues have been determined in the lab pei. Dysplasia is a common issue with larger dogs, and both their parents are vulnerable to this. Similarly, other problems like entropion, luxation, cherry eye, ear infections, stenotic nares, tight lips, malocclusion, hypothyrooidism, demodectic mange, oleosa, hot spots, skin odor, etc. This might tend to make them disobey the trainer. In that case, a very firm hand, and some good amount of patience is required for it to be trained. You can consult a professional trainer the moment you find your dog displays the slightest behavioral issue. Give them socialization and housebreaking trainings from the time you bring them home from the breeders. Train the puppies consistently and with firm hands. Praise your dog or give them treats whenever it finds success or displays obedience. Stick to the same routine diet like the other large-sized dogs with the same energy levels. If you would go for dry foods like kibbles, be sure that you stick to quality and that, you are providing it with the right quantity of food. I have a 7 year old Sharpei Lab named Tyson. He has black fir and big brown eyes that are just full of love when I look in them. He makes me laugh and smile. He is always by my side. Not a complaint about him. In one of these shelters, there is a possibility that one of them is a Shar Pei mixed with Labrador looking for a new lovely home. Here are some reliable shelters and rescue groups you can contact. As such, it is recommended that clothes be taken out of the way so as to prevent the hair and fur is a bit of a chore to clean. It is also possible, however, that the offspring not be totally vulnerable to these diseases. They are known to suffer from elbow or hip dysplasia. Similarly, they also develop eye problems such as cataracts or PRA blindness. They are known to face skin problems with their many folds and complicated eye problems such as entropion. Depending on its favored parent, the Labrador crossed with Shar Pei have usually been showing to be vulnerable to ailments that affect their parent such as: Eye Problems: The most common problem among these complications is Entropion. Without the proper diet and care, this can lead to taking and, worse, surgery. If not treated at the earliest instance, the Entropion can even cause permanent blindness. Skin problems: Because of its many folds, this crossbreed is prone to skin infections if not tended to properly. Avoiding skin complications means regular brushing and wiping of sensitive areas. Hip Dysplasia: A lot of crossbreeds with a Labrador Retriever parent suffer from this, and the Shar Pei crossed with Labrador is no exception. A focus on exercise and diet high in meat and glucosamine is recommended to prevent Hip Dysplasia complications. This is to prevent complications from suffering from Hip Dysplasia. With a tendency to overeat, the Shar Pei Labrador Mix are at high risk of becoming obese. You must have him do small frequent meals instead of one large meal to prevent bloating. Giving of treats and scheduled feedings must be intermixed with free-feeding of at least once per week. This is to make sure that your Shar Pei crossed with Labrador does not become obese. The proper mix of vitamins and minerals for your dog must be consulted with the veterinarian. The veterinarian will be able to assess the nutritional and essential needs of your dog according to their weight and size. Owners should focus on buying dog food rich in glucosamine or chronodotin, or both. These nutrients are vital in lowering the risk for hip dysplasia. Whether yours is big or small, avoid giving them the worst dry dog food, and opt for some of the best dry dog food options, such as:. Lifespan Sociability The Lab Pei is known to be protective of his estate and family. If he takes after his Shar-Pei parent more than his Labrador parent, there is a very high chance that he will guard his home. Although not aggressive, he will stand his ground and will not appreciate strangers coming to the house. In addition to his sometimes-overwhelming protectiveness, he can also be independent and stubborn. The Lab Pei needs a firm owner that is going to step up to the challenge of being the top dog and never allowing the Lab Pei to think he is. Training with any Shar-Pei mix is a lifelong requirement, not a quick 1-month obedience course down at your local center. But there is no doubt about it, this dominant dog is hard work and he needs an experienced dog owner. Being part Shar-Pei he will also not appreciate other animals or pets, especially other dogs. Even if he is well-socialized and the initial meet-up with other pets went swimmingly, he is known to change his mind overnight. So, if you have other pets or are planning to have other pets in the family home, you need to move on to another mixed hybrid altogether. Being the only pet also means that he will get your undivided attention. He is affectionate and loving with his family, and loves a hardcore afternoon snooze most days. He loves human companionship, but he is not over needy or anxious without you around. They usually inherit the hippopotamus muzzle. This means he will probably inherit the larger-than-life muzzle that really does look like a wrinkly hippo face. Scientific studies have shown that the Labrador can now blame his bottomless pit of a stomach on a missing gene. He may or may not inherit this genetically mutated gene, but either way, you need to keep an eye on his food intake to prevent him from becoming obese. They will be a water baby. If you can incorporate water into his exercise routine, he will love you forever. As we have already mentioned, this is exactly why you need to be an experienced dog owner who can show him the ropes and teach him the family hierarchy. If you find he challenges you as top-dog, correct him straight away, and if you still struggle, then you might need to reach out and seek professional help. He is also a confident dog both in the form of protecting his family and with strangers. Although he will be suspicious and aloof at first, as soon as his master welcomes them into the fold, he will warm up to them as well. If he takes after his Lab parent, he might even request a belly rub if they give off a friendly vibe. He is also courageous and will protect his family and estate if he feels he needs to. Full of love and loyalty, his family will be the apple of his eye. He will always be thinking of ways to impress his master, hoping for verbal praise and cheeky treats. He will always be up for a game of fetch or flyball and will spend hours and hours playing with his family. This makes him a fantastic companion for a family who loves to spend time outdoors, having fun, or adventuring. Being a well-balanced dog, he also knows when to be calm in the home. If you and your family are enjoying a relaxing Netflix evening, he will happily sit back and relax with you. The Lab Pei is a very intelligent dog, thanks to the Labrador passing on his intelligent genes. Especially if you tempt him with treats. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Firstly, he is not very tolerant of grabby, overzealous children. Like the best of us, he can get quite grumpy when annoyed, so he is best placed with older children who will know when he needs his own space. Secondly, because of his Shar-Pei genes, this pooch can be very dominant. This means that he might not respect younger children as being part of the pack or above him in the hierarchy. He needs to be with an older family that has experience with dominant dogs and can handle the potential pack challenges. Once he does understand the family dynamics, he is known to settle very well into family life. Also, many protective dogs have an affinity for the younger pack members, too, and the Lab Pei is one of these dogs. His Chinese Shar-Pei parent is famous for not liking the company or sight of other dogs, so this guy is strictly to be homed as the only dog. He extends this dislike to most other animals, so the Lab Pei really needs to be the only animal in the house. You need to bear this in mind when you are exercising him in public as well. You will undoubtedly come across other dogs and animals in the neighborhood. Socialization is key to minimalizing his dislike towards animals. You need to ensure that your yard is secured so that he cannot escape, but also because he will guard his perimeter. Coming nose to nose with another dog at the gate is dangerous, so remove this chance and secure all fencing and gates. Read through his following requirements so that you know exactly what he needs to live his best life. Feed him a high-quality dried kibble that is both age and breed size-appropriate. Dried kibbles are a great way to keep his teeth clean, as the hard kibble pieces help to break down the buildup of plaque. As tempting as it might be to feed him his favorite treats, an overweight dog is an unhappy one and obesity leads to untold health concerns. Always follow package instructions and switch him to a weight management kibble should he start piling on the pounds. Being intelligent, you should aim to mix up his exercise activities when possible. He will love to fetch and retrieve, so why not combine this with his love of water and get yourselves down to the local doggy lake? As he will probably not like other dogs, you need to keep him on a leash and be able to control him when faced with other dogs. Not only will it make walkies more enjoyable for both of you, but if he comes face to face with another dog, you know you can handle his power. This guy packs a lot of power, so you need to be a strong owner. Socialization is the most important part of his training, not only as a puppy but throughout his entire life. Keeping him cooped up all day long will only reinforce the fact that other animals are the enemy. Ensuring that he meets animals and other dogs of all shapes and sizes in a controlled environment will limit the amount of fear-aggression he displays. Obedience training is also important because of his dominant personality. If you are an experienced dominant dog owner, then you will know how important it is to maintain obedience training throughout his life. No matter how cute and squishy his face is , he needs to learn his place in the pack. It will shed moderately throughout the year and then probably experience a full blow-out during the shedding season. Brushing him 2 to 3 times a week will keep him looking fresh and healthy. Because of his skin rolls, he will need to be cleaned with a specially designed skin-fold ointment that will prevent bacteria and skin infections from developing. How often you do this will be dependent on how many folds he has. His eyes and ears will also need to be cleaned regularly and ensure that his nails are the correct length otherwise you risk paw injuries. Bathing him with a gentle shampoo once every 8 weeks or so is advised to keep him smelling clean. Take a note of the below health concerns that are most common to the Lab Pei and make yourself aware of the symptoms. Minor Conditions.

Highly recommend these lovely folks if you are looking for your newest furry family member. My husband and I are newly married and had been really wanting a furry baby to bring into our family. It had been years since either of us had a pet so you could imagine all the questions we had. Our initial contact with them was very informative. Jamie was very patient and understanding. She took the time to explain the breed, temperament of each dog and offered a meet and greet. At the meet and greet we were given time to meet with each puppy and discuss with Jamie which one suited our living and lifestyle best. It was truly a very hard decision because they were all so cute, but we chose Aster! Leading up to the day of pick-up, Jamie provided us with daily videos and pictures on how Aster was doing. She also initiated potty training and clicker training, which has worked wonders for us. On pick up day she provided us with some toys, a mommy blanket, a brush, his initial vaccine record, and an abundance of helpful information for continued training. Even days and weeks after, Jamie has always been available to answer any questions or provide her personal advice for whatever I may need. We are forever grateful to them for bringing Aster into our lives and for making the process so easy. We adopted our pup, Orion, from them and we definitely made the right decision. Jamie and Ira are very educated and really love what they do. Desert Bloom Doodles kept my family updated through the entire process and they ensured every question was answered. Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments.
