Adoption Procedure We have many wonderful rescues available. You can preview most of the rescues here on our website, but it may not be complete as we get new intakes regularly. The best thing to do is to contact Renee to discuss your particular situation and which rescue may be a good fit for you or you can just show up during our regular adoption hours to meet the rescues and we can work with you to find a good match. We have regular adoption hours most Saturday's between 8am - 11am, or by appointment. We suggest you come early as we can get quite busy as the morning progresses. You must be here at least by 10AM as it takes at least an hour to meet and get to know a dog, do an introduction with your dog and fill out the adoption paperwork. These are private appointments and must be set up with her before coming out by calling .We are not usually available on Sundays. Getting a dog is an important decision, and all members of the household must be present including children. If you have another dog, you must bring them with you in order for us to evaluate whether one of our rescues will be a good fit for your family. We suggest having them crated in the car. Proof of home ownership or a letter stating landlord permission is required. When Considering a ROF Adoption Your donation at the time of an adoption is not a fee to buy a dog; it is a donation for the service we provide. It is not refundable. Your donation may be claimed as a tax deductible donation, and furthers our efforts to do as much as we can for as many as we can. We incur significant expenses in paying redemption fees, veterinary fees, transportation costs, boarding, and food costs and ask for an adoption donation for each dog. Your donation offsets a portion of those costs, but in no event exceeds the amount of care actually provided. All donations are applied to our rescue program to further the ROF mission. Rescuing an animal is a commitment. They are not perfect, and in most cases ROF will have limited information about the dog's history. ROF makes its placements based on our evaluation of the dogs, and decades of experience handling dogs and matching dogs to appropriate owners. In addition, we rely on the information provided by our prospective adopters; honesty is the best policy when discussing a potential rescue. Despite the number of dogs in need of homes, it may be that ROF does not have a rescue suitable for your particular situation. Children and other pets are but a few factors that we consider in placing a rescue. The determination to place or not to place any animal is made in ROF's sole discretion. We are advocates for the animals, and it is our goal to do what is best for the dog. Your new companion may have accidents, bark, jump, chew or require regular exercise. No dog is perfect and even a good natured, obedient and trained dog may create stress in the home initially. Please keep in mind that you may love your new pet on Day 1, but it may take some time for your new family member to feel secure in their new environment. Be respectful that you are a stranger to them and not do too much too soon. A crate is an excellent tool for training; we recommend continued crate training as part of a successful transition into your home. These are just some of the things ROF expects potential adopters to consider before making the decision to rescue. ROF offers a six week basic obedience class that runs consecutively year round. We work on basic handling skills and the "heel", "sit", "stay", "down", and "come" commands. ROF rescues can come to the classes as often as they like, free of charge. The class is open to all breeds and is not limited to ROF rescues. ROF is available to discuss specific questions or circumstances for the life of your dog. If for some reason, you can no longer honor your commitment to the dog. They cannot be sold, given away, placed on "craigslist", or brought to a shelter. ROF is a Forever Home for these animals and in the event they must be returned they must be returned to us. Frodo came to us from a shelter having had surgery done on his cherry eye problem. So by the time Rotts of Friends received him, the surgery has been completely undone. A wonderful vet Dr Louie from Antioch offered to redo his eyes for us and with the help of a cone, his surgery was an amazing success! Frodo needs some obedience training but is a very happy carefree young dog. He loves nothing better than to pick up truck tires and move them from place to place! The first thing is to look for the best place to adopt these dogs. They should be in good health, with a stable, good, and responsible owner. Four week old puppies having their dinner in the fresh air If the weather is warm enough, puppies will be spending some time outdoors now. Mealtimes are a messy process, so feeding puppies out in the yard can be a good idea. Breeder Involvement Some mother dogs will lose interest in cleaning up after their pups at this point or soon afterwards. And many puppies will be wormed again this week. Vocalizations are becoming stronger at this puppy development stage. The litter will greet their mother noisily when she returns to them, and try hard to follow her out of the whelping box whenever she leaves. The puppies themselves are now eating solid food several times a day and gradually being weaned of their dependency on her milk. Puppies will still suckle ravenously when their mother returns and she will now often feed them standing up and only for a short time. She will also be teaching the puppies not to bite too hard. So, they should be increasingly spending time with humans and learning to be familiar with the sounds and sights of a human family environment. Puppies being raised in kennels must be brought into a home environment regularly from now on to ensure they develop into confident, friendly dogs. Six weeks old and full of mischief Puppies Still Have a Lot to Learn at 6 Weeks In some countries, puppies are taken to their new homes at this age. But this is not a good idea, and can result in a puppy that has poor bite inhibition and is challenging to manage. The puppies are learning not to bite too hard from the reactions of their mother and siblings. Growth is not quite so fast now. But the puppies will still grow strongly for the next few months. Many puppies will be wormed again this week. All that remains is for plenty of great socialization experiences to be packed into this week, with final checks on health. Many breeders will arrange for each seven week old puppy to have a vet check this week. And though some vets advise against it, some puppies are also given their first vaccinations before they leave for their new homes. Some breeders will now have the puppies trained to pee and poop on puppy pads or newspaper. And some will have been whistling to the puppies at meal times to get them used to coming to a human signal. Potty training is now underway and puppy socialization plans are being made. At this point, many of you will be thinking about training your puppy too. The next four weeks are vital in puppy development stages. Your main job is socializing your puppy. This means taking him to lots of new places and exposing him to lots of new experiences. So, life will be starting to get back to normal. Most puppies in the U. In the U. So, not all puppies will get their vaccinations at the exact same age. Socializing your puppy is still the most important job for you at this age. But, you cannot put your puppy on the ground outside until they have received their final vaccination. So, make sure you know exactly when their final jab is. And carry on introducing them to as many new people, things, and experiences as possible throughout this puppy development stage. Some people can suffer from the puppy blues at this stage too, as your life has completely changed! But, that does not mean socialization can stop. Puppies who are isolated at this point will soon lose that friendly fearlessness. You have an important job now, building on what has been achieved so far, and introducing your puppy to the world at ground level. This part of his education can begin once his vaccination cover is complete. He should be fully immunised at around this point. But check with your vet for confirmation of the actual date. Three months also marks the point at which many puppies will drop down from four daily meals, to three. This can cause problems for some puppies because the portions are larger If your puppy gets an upset tummy when you make this change, just go back up to four meals again for a few days, and give smaller portions for a few days when you try again. But, many will need another month before they can cope without frequent bathroom breaks and the occasional accident. Your puppy will begin to lose his baby teeth. This can also be a time at which biting can be most challenging. And try not to worry, this stage will soon be over! A few will need another month or two to complete the process. Remember, no two puppies are the same. That puppy fluffiness will have gone. For many puppies, five months is an awkward, gangly time. A five month old puppy may have shed the last of his soft puppy lines and be looking quite skinny. By the end of this month most puppies will have finished teething but an urge to chew may continue for another few months in some breeds, Labradors included. They start to get fully alert and aware of their environment and may recognize you and other humans that are frequently around. The Socialization Period 4 to 7 Weeks Once a puppy is around four weeks old, they start to learn the most important things in life-related to social development. They will learn to not bite all the time and how to interact with their siblings. Interactions with humans are especially important between five and seven weeks. This is also the time they will start to understand discipline thanks to their mother. She will start weaning her puppies and teaching them manners, like acknowledging she is in charge. As the owner, you can start introducing food to your puppy when they are around four weeks old. Start small and begin to give them more food as the mother continues to wean them. You should also continue handling the puppy every day. However, be sure not to separate them from their siblings or mother for over ten minutes each day, since this can lead to issues with training and socialization. Dogs who are separated too soon may also be nervous and more likely to bark and bite. During this period, let the mother dog take care of discipline; you should not correct the dog for mouthing or housebreaking mistakes until later in life. To help ease them through this process, avoid traumatic events, loud voices, or harsh discipline. You should also make sure your pooch has plenty of human contact during this stage. If you want, you can start leash training and even teach simple commands such as sit, down, stay and come. In terms of development, you will notice that your puppy can sleep through the whole night and starts to develop better control of its bowels and bladder. Work to slowly increase training and other activities. You can even work on advanced training such as agility or herding. Another option is to simply keep training them to ensure they interact in a non-aggressive and non-threatening way with other animals. It is also possible that your dog will go through another fearful period of time at some point after they reach six months. You can speed up the process with counter-conditioning and desensitization. It fits very well and is quite apt! Final Thoughts With the knowledge of how and when your new puppy will develop, you are better able to meet their needs. Provide socialization at the appropriate times and be sure to give your puppy plenty of social interactions with their siblings as well as humans and any other pets in your home. The estimated size of your Doodle is determined by the size of both parents. Standard Doodles pounds and inches tall - This is the result of breeding a full sized Standard Poodle with an English Golden Retriever or an English Goldendoodle. Medium Doodles pounds and inches tall - We have Moyen Medium Poodles here that we breed to full sized Doodles or Retrievers. This results in a nice medium sized companion. They come in either F1, F1b or Multigen generations. Mini Doodles pounds and inches tall - This is the result of any number of combinations depending on the size of the parents. It is not possible to have an F1 Tiny Doodle because breeding the smallest Poodle possible to a full sized Golden Retriever will still give no guarantees that the puppy will be in the pound range. Tiny Doodles only come in the F1b generation at Doodle Creek. These dogs typically have low to non shedding coats. Some will have the straighter coats with a loose wave to it. These coats will sometimes be low shedding. Others will have the fleecy coats and will shed very little to nothing at all. If you are wanting strong Retriever characteristics and you are okay with possibly some shedding, this would be a great option. If you have allergies, you may want to consider the F1b or Multigen breedings. These dogs will quite often look very similar to the F1 English Goldendoodles in that many still keep that nice, fleecy coat type. The litters normally have a few with the fleecy coat types and a few with the curly coat types. The fleecy coat typed F1b puppies are typically extremely low to non shedding. The F1b is an excellent choice for those who suffer from allergies. Multigen English Goldendoodles - Through our years of experience, we have now come to the point where we use our trusted genetics and we will breed two totally unrelated Goldendoodles together. We do all the proper DNA testing to ensure that we are getting the low to non shedding offspring from these matings. We have found that the Mulitgens are just as good as the F1b for those with allergies as they are also low to non shedding. The advantage of breeding Mulitgen English Goldendoodles here at Doodle Creek is that we are able to get more of the colours we are looking for in our puppies such as the tri colour, black and white, brown and white, or the merle. Coat types Our English Goldendoodles have several different coat types. Most are very low to non shedding. They turn into a loose curled coat as an adult and have a very soft feel.
