Add mild distractions Recall: Fade additional cues. Begin to whistle the pup and stand still. Add mild distractions. Clicker train to polish this in more mouthy puppies. No commands are needed for this. Gradual introduction of distractions. Advanced puppy training begins in earnest This is where I start a programme of sporting training with my Labs. You can begin raising your standards and expectations, asking for longer and more complex behaviors. Teaching your puppy to walk to heel nicely for longer distance and past all kinds of distractions and temptations. Or teaching your puppy to sit and stay for longer periods of time, and even while you go out of sight or while other dogs play nearby. What to expect from your six month old puppy Six months is a common time for people to have a lot of questions and to be struggling with a few challenges. Lab puppies open their eyes at about two weeks old. By this time, Labrador puppies will have their eyes fully open and most will be at least partly open. Ears open at this point too and your puppy will begin to hear. Period of Awakening of Senses 3 to 4 weeks At this period , a puppy develops various senses rapidly. They start to get fully alert and aware of their environment and may recognize you and other humans that are frequently around. The Socialization Period 4 to 7 Weeks Once a puppy is around four weeks old, they start to learn the most important things in life-related to social development. They will learn to not bite all the time and how to interact with their siblings. Interactions with humans are especially important between five and seven weeks. This is also the time they will start to understand discipline thanks to their mother. She will start weaning her puppies and teaching them manners, like acknowledging she is in charge. As the owner, you can start introducing food to your puppy when they are around four weeks old. Start small and begin to give them more food as the mother continues to wean them. You should also continue handling the puppy every day. However, be sure not to separate them from their siblings or mother for over ten minutes each day, since this can lead to issues with training and socialization. Dogs who are separated too soon may also be nervous and more likely to bark and bite. During this period, let the mother dog take care of discipline; you should not correct the dog for mouthing or housebreaking mistakes until later in life. To help ease them through this process, avoid traumatic events, loud voices, or harsh discipline. You should also make sure your pooch has plenty of human contact during this stage. If you want, you can start leash training and even teach simple commands such as sit, down, stay and come. In terms of development, you will notice that your puppy can sleep through the whole night and starts to develop better control of its bowels and bladder. This is also when your dog will be teething, so give them toys like frozen dog Kong toys to relieve pressure and pain. Chewing behaviors will also start growing at this point so look for some safe chew toys to keep your dog entertained. This is when hormonal changes start to occur and is the ideal time to spay or neuter your pup. Adolescence 6 to 18 Months After six months, your pup is already in the final stage of puppy development but is still young. This is a fun and exciting time for your pooch since they will be learning, full of energy, and exuberant. During this time, it is important to remember that even if your puppy now looks like a grown-up dog, they are still a puppy, at least in its mental capacity and emotional maturity. Work to slowly increase training and other activities. You can even work on advanced training such as agility or herding. Another option is to simply keep training them to ensure they interact in a non-aggressive and non-threatening way with other animals. It is also possible that your dog will go through another fearful period of time at some point after they reach six months. You can speed up the process with counter-conditioning and desensitization. It fits very well and is quite apt! Final Thoughts With the knowledge of how and when your new puppy will develop, you are better able to meet their needs. In the past, I have enforced SIT with a push down on her bottom. Now, at this age, I will start using my dog training tools and will introduce the use of a heeling stick. Each time I give a correction with the heeling stick I say the command before and after the command. Currently Bubba will sit still for around seconds before getting antsy. Sometimes she gets distracted by her own tail, which is funny. I do some movement with my body to add distraction and firm up her SIT. My movement helps Bubba learn that just because I am moving, that does not mean she can. Over time I will add a lot more distractions, but I add them slowly based on how well Bubba is understanding what I expect of her. But so vital. Getting a good consistent reaction to the HERE command will require a little more maturity. Eventually, we will use an electronic collar to achieve quick responses to our obedience commands. But we want the puppy to be a bit older for before we start with the electronic collar. For now, I must be content with taking Bubba outside on lead and using a long lead for doing fetching and marks. She is starting to understand when I am not happy with her behavior. Luckily, Bubba is very tractable. I have already seen some adjustment in her behavior just from my stern commands and corrections. While I am not a big fan of treat training, I know that it is very effective to get a puppy responsive to the HERE command. I have started working with treats I use little kibbles of her dog food to get a better response from Bubba on HERE outside. Introducing your Labrador puppy to hunting elements We continue to introduce Bubba to various hunting elements. So far, we have introduced her to water and swimming, decoys on land, and a live pigeon. These introductions have all gone well, so this week we added a few more introductions. Introducing your puppy to boat on land There are several ways to hunt ducks and geese. Some hunt from a boat and some hunt from land. We take great care to make sure our dogs are trained to hunt from both. To do this, we start with an introduction to a boat on land. The surface of a boat can be slippery, and many dogs do not like to get into the boat at first. With retrievers this is generally easy to overcome by throwing retrieves from the boat. Bubba jumped into the boat with a little encouragement. She has been well socialized with walking on top of various items and surfaces, so the boat was not a big challenge for her. While Bubba was in the boat, I threw a bumper for her to fetch. When she brought it back to me, I had her jump back in the boat and repeated this a few more times. This is a trained behavior; it is not natural for a retriever to do this. The first step toward teaching your puppy or dog this behavior is to teach HOLD as a command. You can wear a leather glove if you are worried about damaging your hand. Be prepared to have a bit of a fight on your hand. Your puppy will not like this the first few times and will likely resist strongly. After a while your puppy will not fight it so hard and may even willingly SIT and hold your hand. Oh this is a super cool dog - truly rare and spectacular! He came from a family who decided to give him to a friend who then dumped him at a shelter because they were moving to a place that only allowed small pets - yea that happens and it is very sad. He supposedly came from a breeder too but we do not DNA test. He is heartworm negative and neutered and vaccinated too! So smart and would love to go to a doggy class to learn more cool skills. Great for an active or laid back family who wants not just a super model but a gorgeous lover. Just a super cool mix and sooo handsome and gentle. Wants to love u and for u to love him badly! His rescue reports, "This guy is just a gem of a dog. He is just beyond the best. I wish my own dog was as great as this guy! He is so majestic - tall handsome and not a big barker. Watch out for too many purebred dogs: Be wary of rescues that always have a high number of popular or purebred dogs available. It could be a puppy mill disguised as a rescue. This is a very soft, gentle, easy going, loving apricot Standard Poodle who was born May 10, .Lady is a friendly and a Velcro type of Poodle who greatly enjoys following me and my husband around while being a part of our family. We are 5-month-old Standard Poodles weighing about lbs. While I love to play with my foster siblings, I really just want calm space to hang out with my humans and other fur friends. I also like to try and outsmart my foster parents when they hide my treats or sticks, I bring inside. I am very curious and love to explore, play, eat, and cuddle. Now that I am older, I can make it through the night without any potty accidents but I need to go outside as soon as I am up, usually around 7am. I eat breakfast then it's right back outside for my next potty break! I like to have a chew bone and play for a while, then naps. I like to sit on the couch next to my foster mom, or lay on my back sprawled out on the floor. I love going for walks and am learning to not pull. I bark a little at other dogs but I am very dog and people friendly. Nights are pretty low key, I may play a little before bed time, where I prefer to sleep next to my foster parent's bed. I love to cuddle if you'll allow me up too! Since I am still a puppy, I need reinforcements with potty training, proper leash walking, and learning what and what not to chew on. I am just a super sweet girl and can't wait to share my love with you!

Miniatures typically must be between eleven and fifteen inches, whereas the Standard is always over fifteen inches and can often grow as tall as twenty-two inches. Naturally, the Standard is the much heavier dog as well, with males weighing between forty-five and seventy pounds. On the other hand, Staffordshire Bull Terriers have only one available size; however, they can vary a little. Typically a Staffy would weigh between twenty-four to twenty-eight pounds and reach sixteen to eighteen inches. There are various colours, including black, white, red , blue, fawn, and each of those colours can have white markings. Poodles have a single dense coat that grows similarly to human hair. It continually grows and will need regular maintenance and cutting. Poodles also have coats that can be a solid colour or multi-coloured; there is a massive variety. In each litter of Staffypoos, you will see the many different coat lengths, types, and colours. Poodles tend to live between 12 to 15 years and Staffies between 12 to 14 years. If your Staffypoo is healthy, you could expect them to live between 12 and 15 years. After all, these dogs were trained as circus performers in the past. Poodles and Staffies are family-oriented dogs ; they enjoy spending time with family and are fun-loving and lively dogs that love to please their people. Neither dog does well when left alone for long periods and can develop some behavioural issues if left to themselves for too long. Therefore, you can expect a mix of these two to produce puppies of a similar temperament. However, if the Staffypoo mix has a Toy Poodle parent, there might be some issues with dog aggression, so something to watch out for if you prefer the smaller sized Staffypoo. Their coat can be one single color or a mix of colors. Coat Type The Poodle has a curly, long coat [9] www. It can get out of hand quickly if not properly taken care of. The Staffy has a pretty low-maintenance short coat that only sheds minimally. However, their mostly self-cleaning hair coat does leave them more prone to ticks and fleas. The combination of the two should give a medium-length coat that will require some attention. Temperament Staffypoos love people above all else. They tend to be stubborn and impulsive, but they want nothing more than to spend time with their people. If you are upset, Staffypoos will stop at nothing to make you feel better in any way that they can. They are a bright and exuberant breed who will make funny noises to get your attention or throw tantrums if they do not get their way. Oh, the joys of a stubborn and intelligent dog. Training Though stubborn, Staffypoos do very well with training and prove to be good students for a good trainer. To properly train, you must be the one to set the rules and boundaries for them to follow while still being flexible. As athletic dogs, they need a considerable amount of exercise and love to go on walks, runs, swims, and hikes. Are Staffypoos aggressive? The history of the Staffy has ensured that they are not the types of dogs to choose passiveness over action. If provoked, they will likely not back down unless taught otherwise [10] sbtca. However, the mix with the Poodle should lessen this aggression. This does not mean, though, that the majority of all Staffordshire Bull Terriers are aggressive. If properly bred, trained, and socialized, any dog can overcome streaks of aggression. It is just worth noting that half of their genes stem from a tenacious and impulsive breed that needs to be taught how to react to the unexpected [11] sbtca. Are Staffypoos good with young children? Staffypoos love people in general, but they have a soft spot in their hearts for children. Of course, correct training, supervision, and socialization are a must for those expected to spend time around children [12] sbtca. However, you would be hard-pressed to find a dog or any living thing that loves children more than a well-trained and well-bred Staffypoo. Health The Staffypoo is prone to the diseases that are found in their parents. Luckily, their risk is decreased since they are a mixed breed. Standard Poodles are at risk for gastric dilatation, epilepsy, eye disorders, and a few other issues [14] www. The most common issues found amongst Staffies are with their eyes and their joints [15] sbtca. It is also encouraged that you get your dog evaluated by an ophthalmologist, tested for hereditary cataracts, and tested for L2HGA [16] www. Cataracts and dysplasia of the hip or elbow seem to be the biggest health threats to Staffypoos [17] www. As with all dogs, they should be regularly taken to the vet for routine check-ups and vaccines. Be sure to keep an eye out! Life Expectancy The average healthy Staffordshire Bull Terrier-Poodle mix will live anywhere from 12 to 18 years of age.
