However, most are a hybrid mix between the two bloodlines. We do this in order to bring out the best in both. We also enjoy the many different shapes, sizes and colors this breed comes in. We have established a fourth generation Morrison's American Bulldog bloodline, with no future plans to retire. Like my Fly, Darkus is also just a fantastic mother to her puppies, with lots of milk, lots of patience, and doesn't become emaciated when she's nursing. This pic of Darkus was taken just the other day, less than 10 days after her puppies quit nursing, and she's already nearly all the way snapped back and tightened up again. That's a very healthy mama trait we really like around here. Dry mouth and no eye leakage whatsoever. Slim and streamlined as a serious running dog, but with hard, rippling muscle as the traditional southern catchdog he is. He's sweet, intelligent, very laid back and mellow, but a solid home protection dog nonetheless. Care Intervention: Nope. Nobody required any special aid as infant puppies. Nobody presents any form of special need or health concern. All puppies are highly robust, active, and strong. The White Dog Question: Understand, while it is true that some only some white breeds of dog, some Dogo Argentinos, some American Bulldogs, most Spitz and other breeds of white dogs do sometimes have difficulty with sun, that is not the case with these dogs, or their parents, or grand parents. All of them have been out in blazing sun for over a month, at over 9, feet, in Colorado that has over days of sun a year, puppies being tested to assure that there are no sun issues. There aren't. They love the sun. No problems whatsoever. All of them male and female will finish out at right around 24" to 27" inches tall at the withers measuring from ground to top of shoulders , with the boys taller and thicker than the girls. However, both mom and dad carry the genes for larger dogs, so it's technically possible you could get a genetic throwback to that and end up with a pound dog -- probably not, but still possible. Regarding life expectancy, assuming good protein uptake, exercise and good general health, 15 years is fairly likely. They are all very sweet, already really love and enjoy kids, and all are very, very smart, making for easy training, and years of deeply bonded relationship. Fact is I always say that we don't breed dog park candidates, and in this case, I'm thinking I actually might have. Gentlemen, if you've agreed with someone to get a female, actually wanting a male for a bit more proactive watchdogging, this girl is for you, the good Lord apparently granting you the perfect compromise. Mellow and sweet, but also a stand up girl. As it is, she still looks a lot like her mom, a very dark mahogany brindle, and same extra mellow temperament. And I'm telling you, this girl wants to learn to do tricks for you, a true look-at-me performer. She's smart and really does want to perform. Set up a social media page for her, teach her a new cool trick every week, and she'll soon have more followers than many humans. It's in no way a health issue, just a show dog thing, and you don't generally even see it but in a few positions. Smart like all the others. Handler focused like all the others. But she really, really wants to lay with someone on the couch. If you had another lonely dog, perfect match. If you like sleeping with your dogs, perfect match. If you want a dog to sleep with a child, perfect match. However, where they are all very smart, this girl is the smartest. I mean she was watching tv as if she understood the movie plot when she was 4 weeks old, as all her brothers and sisters just looked around wondering where the wierd noises were coming from. She'd make a simply fantastic therapy or hospice dog with little to no effort, and you could train her for anything. I've caught her watching human conversations closely, clearly trying to pick up on English, and she soon will. She's also the largest of the females with slightly more masculine features, so again, guys, if you were secretly wanting a male, here's a legitimatley good compromise. Some can have the taller but more slight build of the poodle, others have the stockier build of the Bernese. Their coats come in a variety of styles as well. These are NOT mutts which implies a breeding between unknown breeds or not carefully planned. These are designer breeds that are bred for a specific purpose. We produce an incredible bernedoodle that displays the qualities of both our champion line Standard Poodles and the Bernese Mountain Dog pedigrees. The Premier F1 Standard Bernedoodle is a low- to mostly nonshedding we use standard poodles that do not carry the improper coat alleles and Bernese mountain dogs that have thick wavy curly coats.If you want a guarantee on non shedding, then you should try to select an F1b or F1bb bernedoodle. Both look amazingly similar to the F1 standard bernedoodles but maybe a little smaller. Bernedoodle puppies do have energy like most puppies, and this will continue thru about years of age at which time they really mellow out. Due to the the recombination and shuffling of new genetic variations, they do show some variation in their coloration however they also all have a common morphology that tells you it's a bernedoodle. Although we do take deposits on a first come, first pick basis, we will know the puppies well, their personalities, and can help select a puppy that best fits your lifestyle and what you are looking for. We only use Standard Poodles and Bernese Mountain Dogs to produce our Premier Bernedoodles so that any dog we accept into our Premier Bernedoodle program have passed stringent health tests, display family oriented personalities, and exhibit the best of conformation so that our bernedoodles are absolutely beautiful. Be very cautious when purchasing a purebred or bernedoodle without doing your due diligence as the puppies will always be cute, but will exhibit the personalities of the bloodline used later in life.Therefore, use a reptutable breeder that has invested in the dogs they use for their breeding programs and that raise them as their own family members. They should be able to produce their pedigrees as well, and should have both parents on site so you can see how they react to you. We are very Type A when it comes to the quality of dogs which makes it more difficult to give referrals. We are always going to be biased and believe that the wait for a Premier Bernedoodle is worth it and you'll be very happy you did! Also you can visit your local humane society and help rescue a dog at the shelter.If you have young kids be sure to get a younger dog from the shelter that can adapt to your family. But if you're looking for a unique new family member, a Premier Bernedoodle will be a true delight. Colors and Fur Our Premier Bernedoodles will be traditional tri-color much like a Bernese Mountain Dog , abstract tricolor similar to a traditional tricolor with less white in the face , sable similar to a traditional tri-color but has more reddish-browns due to the poodle genetics we use , phantom, merle, merle tricolor, or bi-colored brown and white, black and white, or shades thereof. Our F1b's will consist of black and whites, traditional tricolors, abstract tricolors, and lots of variable brown and reddish brown and whites. Color never reflects temperament and personality so usually most people don't really care too much what color they are. They are all really beautiful. Although there's variation due to the hybrid vigor present as a result of the recombination of genes in many arrays, there is definitely a bernedoodle appearance that is fairly consistent. If you let the hair grow, they will look like big shaggy dogs that you can't help but to give a big hug to. And they enjoy every minute of it! Our Premier Bernedoodles will tend to have wavy curly coats due to the coat types we require in our bernese mountain dogs which helps to minimize or eliminate shedding.We do make sure that our standard poodles do not carry the genetic marker known as the "Improper Coat" allele or IC for short. Wavy curly coats do require a little more grooming as compared to straight, but many, straight coats shed more.Although they are considered to be large, they don't act like a large dog in the house. They are generally very careful and calm natured as adults however they do have some puppy-fun energy thru the puppyhood stages and thru 3 years of age. They love people and other pets! We do thorough genetic testing of our adults that we use in our breeding program to assure that you are purchasing the healthiest of bernedoodle puppies. Our Bernese mountain dogs come from very long-lived blood lines in Western Europe and these longer lifespans is one of the many reasons we obtain our Berners from several specific populations known for their longevity. Obviously we can't guarantee lifespan as there are many variables outside of our control not to mention, environment, stress, climate, food, etc. But track record seems to show a longer lifespan. What's the Difference? An F1b is an F1 standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle or could be a backcross to a Bernese mountain dog but we generally use the poodle as the backcross. An F1bb is an F1b standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle. Behaviorally they are all very similar with the F1b and F1bb's being slightly smaller than our F1 standards and tend to have slightly curlier coats to a tight wave. If you're looking for a smaller standard Bernedoodle these would be a great option. Pictures are posted below with the other pictures. I would like to think so, but if you do not plan on being with your bernedoodle and keeping it with you, in your home, as part of your home, this is definitely not the dog for you. They thrive on being with the family and not isolated we believe this is the case for all dogs, and especially bernedoodles. Any of our puppies kept in a permanent kennel situation, on a tether, or the like, will violate the terms and conditions of our puppy contract and will have to render the puppy or dog back to Premier Doodles see puppy contract in link above. We definitely support crate training, but these dogs are not meant to live their life in a crate nor kennel! If you want a pet that prefers to be in isolation, you may want to consider a nonsocial pet perhaps a Betta fish! Yes we have done a lot of the hard work the first 8 weeks as we do extensive early neurological stimulation bio-sensor and Puppy Culture program, along with starting crate training and housebreaking, BUT, they are puppies and will need your undivided attention for the next weeks as they work towards being completely housebroken and earning more privileges. They have been communicating with their siblings for the past 8 weeks using their mouth. During their normal daily interactions, you will occasionally hear a loud "yelp" in response to one biting another too hard. This yelp usually ends the mouthing behavior. Now puppies have fur and people generally do not. When you bring your bernedoodle home, they will likely display some degree of mouthing behavior toward their human family. This will usually stop this behavior. We then redirect their desire to mouth to something more appropriate like a chew toy and after a few seconds of cooperating we praise them. This is usually diagnosed via a Schirmer tear test that measures tear production and a fluorescein stain test to check for abrasions. Treatment includes artificial-tear medication, eye drops for lubrication, medication to reduce pain and inflammation, and in some cases, antibiotics. This condition is thought to develop due to a weakening of connective tissues. If cherry eye is not treated quickly, it can lead to other very serious issues. It is very rare for this to happen to both eyes at the same time, but once it happens to one eye it's very common for it to occur in the other within a few months. Signs of this include a pink or red bump that significantly protrudes out over the sclera the white part of the eye. This is treated with corrective surgery in which a small section of the nictitating membrane is removed and stitches are placed to secure the remaining tissue back into its proper place. Eyelash Abnormalities - Distichiasis and Ectopic Cilia Both of these issues involve the abnormal growth of eyelashes. With distichiasis, a condition Pugs are moderately prone to, one or more eyelash grows in an odd direction out from the eyelid. With ectopic cilia, a condition seen less commonly with Pugs, one or more eyelash grows through the inside of the eyelid toward the eye. With either condition, when an eyelash pokes into the eyeball, it is extremely painful and can lead to corneal ulcers. Although an offending eyelash can be plucked out, offering immediate relief, it is often temporary since it usually regrows within 4 to 5 weeks. For this reason, a minor procedure is often performed to remove both the eyelash and the follicle to prevent any reoccurrence. Entropion Entropion, also referred to as inverted or folded-in lid, is an inherited condition in which either the upper or lower eyelid rolls inward. This is moderately common with Pugs, usually involves the lower eyelids, and typically develops within the first year. This is mainly a genetic condition linked to tension in the ligaments of the inner eye but can also be triggered by rapid weight loss or can develop alongside chronic eye infections. While the inverted lid itself will irritate the eye, there are other issues that can develop. Eyelashes that that point inward can scratch the surface of the eye, leading to corneal ulcers. And, any scar tissue that may form after a scratch that can lead to vision problems or even vision loss in some cases. In very minor cases, and if the cornea is not ulcerated, the eyelid may be temporarily stitched back into place and artificial-tear medication given. However, in most cases, this needs to be resolved with corrective surgery to permanently reposition the eyelid back into position. Corneal Abrasions and Ulcerations The cornea is the clear, shiny membrane that makes up the surface of the eyeball and because Pugs have very prominent eyes, corneal abrasions and ulcers are not uncommon. A corneal abrasion is a scrape that only affects the epithelium 1st layer. A corneal ulcer is a scrape through the whole epithelium 1st layer and into the basement membrane 2nd layer or stroma 3rd layer. The most common cause of abrasions and ulcerations is trauma to the eye which can be anything from debris entering a Pug's eye to rubbing the head along the ground resulting in a scratch. This is also linked to entropion, chronic eye infections, keratoconjunctivitis sicca dry eye , canine diabetes, and hypothyroidism. Signs include moderate to severe pain a Pug may paw at the eye or rub the eye area against surfaces , sensitivity to light, keeping the eye closed, discharge in some cases. Exact treatment will depend on whether there is a corneal abrasion, ulcer, or descemetocele. Corneal abrasions generally are treated with topical antibiotics and often the use of a protection cone collar to prevent a dog from pawing at the eye and typically heal in 1 week or less. For corneal ulcers or descemetocele, treatment varies. For moderate cases, surgery may be performed to temporarily stitch the eyelid closed to allow it to heal. If both eyes are affected, each eye may be alternatingly treated. For more serious cases, other surgery including grafts or transplants may be required. If an ulcer does not heal as expected, there can be a buildup of dead cells on the rim of the ulcer which prevent normal cells from repairing the tear. If this happens, the dead cells are removed and surgical closing of the eyelids may follow. If there is no improvement after days of treatment, bring your Pug back to the vet to be reexamined. Pigmentary Keratitis Pigmentary keratitis refers the migration of brown melanin pigment from the iris into the sclera white area of the eye. This can range from minor which has no affect on vision to severe melanin covers the pupil, leading to blindness. Early detection plays a huge role in successfully managing and treating this. This may develop with no underlying causes, however it is frequently linked to other issues such as entropion or keratoconjunctivitis sicca dry eye. The sign of this is brown pigment seen within the sclera white part of the eye. It can vary from faint tiny brown specks to severe black patches. Because many cases are due to an underlying eye issue, treatment almost always involves resolving that underlying disorder. If the pigmentary keratitis already reached a severe level and is covering the pupil, this can profoundly affect a Pug's vision, even leading to blindness.
