Tucson On an odd rainy day in February, I met up with Cheryl at the vet's office to meet Valentino, when I saw the puppies I could not decide which one so I adopted them both as love is not for sale. There were only 3 in their litter and Romeo was already reserved. Teddy and Valentino named so due to being born on Valentines Day are the love that we needed in our family. Let me tell you, sometimes they are very mischievous, rambunctious and can be down right stubborn. With that being said, I would not trade them for the world. Valentino is the leader, he has gotten into the sink and stole a defrosting London Broil. How did he get into the sink? Maybe he stood on Teddy's back. I can imagine them doing this, they are THAT intelligent. Well dinner was a little late but I was more concerned about his sensitive stomach. Teddy loves being on my white Italian leather sofa, he loves it so much that he smelled something probably crumbs and tore a hole right into the shoulder of it. I spent a Saturday sewing it up, while arguing with Teddy. He has claimed this sofa as his own. This is the love that I speak of. No matter what they get into, just one look at those sad eyes and I am a big bag of mush. They are the cleanest babies I have ever seen. They love to play in the mud and I let them! They are my babies. They are so smart, I lock them out of the doggie door and they will clean themselves, when finished they knock on the door. They loves kids! They use to jump on them but I have trained them that babies cry. So now they walk up and allow them to pet them while they wag their stumps and drool thank goodness Walmart has an endless supply of baby wipes. They are very territorial,nthis is our fault. We have kept them all to ourselves. We love them so much. Cheryl, the cost that we paid for them is nothing to the joy that they have brought us. This breed is not just a dog but is actually another member of the family, I currently have a new puppy who is now 5 months old his name is Draco welsh for Dragon he is a typical boxer puppy into eveything and pushes the boundries every day to see how far he can go. This above all is the most important thing to control right from the start. You need to be strong yourself and not fall for those sad eyes when he knows he has over stepped the mark. Be strong, be firm he will soon learn who is actually the boss, but beware again he will always try to take back control. The boxer will always find its level in every family and will be loyal to those above him and always protective to those below him. The boxer is a great family dog although he is very strong and at times with young children can cause a threat with his inabillity to realise that his speed, strength and general happiness can be dangerous around children. Please note that a well trained Boxer like many other breeds will not bite, They also find it very hard to bark once they are mature. Another trait of the breed is that they can be deaf when they want to be, this is the stubborn side of them, this is always followed by an enormous Huff when they do not get their way. As far as their interactions with other animals I have had mixed results with all my dogs, Sheba loved Cats and allowed the next doors cat to hang on to his chops while he walked around the house. Solomon hated cats and rabbits, Max loved everything, Barkley could not be taken off his lead when out because he would always over power any size dog and then try to box them into the ground, on one occasion he took on to dobermans and when he eventually allowed them to get up watched them run away and then Huffed in disgust that they did not want to play. George was my mate and lived only a short time as he came from the rescue centre and had been badly treated by his original owners it makes me very sad to write this part. Boxers usually live to the ripe old age of between 11 and 13years, they do suffer from liver problems later in life and most of my dogs have suffered from stiffness in the back legs when there time has nearly been up all that energy expelled every day of their lives. Finally anyone thinking of having a boxer must understand that this is not just a dog it is another member of the family and for that reason must be allowed to join in with every aspect of family life, Opening Christmas presents with a boxer brings untold joys as they too like the boxes more than the contents. George died of cancer aged 8 and Barney died of mitral heart valve failure aged 4, he died playing in our garden with his brother george same litter. Lovely dogs that don't like being left on their own. They all come with a long tail now since the docking ban last year. But, their character remains the same - wonderful. They are thinking dogs and don't need to be bullied but you need to be firm with them at first. Need lots of exercise and free running to be happy. Avoid complete food - they're meat eaters like all dogs. Ours loves freeflow tripe and raw chicken wings value ones from tesco. They need lots of regularly changed fresh drinking water as it gets slobbery. They love drinking water after a bit of a run around. Like I said, they are intelligent thinking dogs. All of the Other Reindeer : Woodrow the Dalmatian is generally left out by his sisters, Francie and Madison, who are inseparable. He ends up forming a stronger bond with his mother Roxy, and in the end, is adopted by a local fireman. Maxwell the Retriever mix is a total misfit in terms of appearance and is often left behind by his littermates when it comes to socialising until close to the end of the episode. Not that he seems to mind too much. Roo the Beagle is far smaller than his sisters and generally finds himself alone when it comes to their outings. The three Pomeranian puppies are named after birds: Sparrow, Wren, and Finch. It makes more sense since they're raised on a farm full of various birds. At the end of a "Growing Up" episode, we see that one of Truly Elegant's kittens Gizmo is now the proud mother of kittens herself. Badly Battered Babysitter : Briard mom Fresco. Beware the Nice Ones : Reginald the Persian kitten can only take so much grooming. Big Eater : Eleanor the Bengal kitten. To be fair, she is the biggest in Madeline's litter. Oreo wants to know what's going on at the time. Big Fancy House : Many of the animals featured in the series live in very nice places, with some of the houses featured being so big that they're basically like mansions. Big Friendly Dog : Quite a few of them show up as either parents of puppies or as new friends to both puppies and kittens. Mari the German Shepherd in particular is so adorably eager to meet the Ragdoll kittens that she ends up accidentally scaring them by being too eager but doesn't harm any of them. She does calm down soon and eventually bonds with all the kittens, especially Snowball to the point where she stays with Mari in the end. Sinta the German Shepherd is a big but very kind Parental Substitute for Oreo the tuxedo kitten as well as welcoming toward other animals such as Nellie the skunk. And there's also Timber, another German Shepherd who not only is a good babysitter to the Cornish Rex kittens but he provides some male bonding with Tofu since he's the sole male around four sisters. Big Brother Instinct : Finn the Mini-Aussie Shepherd pup comes to Jojo's rescue after hearing her whimpering when she wanders too far away from the other pups while trying to follow Rosie. Usually when he sniffs out a treat, Xena shoves him away and snatches it from him. Until near the end of the episode, where Roo successfully fights to keep it. While it's nice to see them get new, loving homes, it's also a bit sad to see the group of animals you spent an hour watching having to go their separate ways. Book Ends : Oreo arrives at his refuge home as a defenseless little baby. By the end of his episode, the now Older and Wiser Oreo is seen befriending another baby kitten before he's properly adopted. Bratty Half-Pint : Oskar the pug puppy. Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl : A non-romantic type. Doberman Pinscher pups Bosco and Dot. Justified since he's basically a teenager , having been around 10 months old when the kitties were born. In time, he does form a bond with his son Dante where they become Birds of a Feather. Can't Catch Up : Rat Terrier pup Liam seemed to be this, except for being the only one who could catch up with Minnie the pony. Chew Toy : Peaches the Shar-Pei is this to her brother Raisin, but she takes it in stride by using brains instead of brawn to deal with him. Chocolate Baby : Siberians Solomeya and Maksim are both white-furred, but their litter is filled with black kittens.Cloudcuckoolander : Winston. In more or less the same vein as Cosmo, Atlas the Norwegian Forest kitten was this, too. Adult Boxer dogs are known for being amazingly intelligent and calm so it's hilarious to see how delightfully unhinged these dogs are as puppies.
