First, look for a pup that is of average or medium size within the litter. The smallest, weakest pups are not always healthy and can have some congenital or genetic problems that may shorten their life. Look for a pup that is friendly and not too timid. Very shy pups may be afraid and can become fear biters in the future. The primary socialization period for pups is 6 to 16 weeks of age so pick a pup in the 6 to 8 week old age range if possible. A few of the labradoodles I have dealt with are timid so look for one that comes to you readily. If you find one that you are interested in and seems to like you too, check the pup over to see if it has any discharges from the eyes or nose.
