Ella: Is a spunky, fun-loving princess with a soft, fleecy parchment coat. Also medium sized weighing 35 lbs. She is full of energy and adventure, and makes a wonderful companion. With un-bounding energy, she loves riding in the car so she can roll the window down by herself, and energetic long walks off-leash with her Great Dane brother. Conversely she is just as content to sit on the floor at our feet and watch the happenings of a busy, loving, large family. Retired Dogs Phoebe: Phoebe is a beautiful soft fleecy chocolate medium sized Australian Labradoodle. She resides here in Cardston with her guardian home who absolutely adores her! Her family consists of 2 loving parents with 5 children who provide endless hours of playtime and snuggles. She greets visitors at the door with a friendly welcome while soaking up all the attention. Night time snuggles is her favorite way to end the day. Abercrombie Abby is our little leapster. She has the grace and poise of a gazelle as she leaps around the backyard. Her beautiful fleecy apricot colored coat, innocent face and friendly disposition make her quite popular with the public when she is out for a walk. She is such a fun little girl and is immediately loved by anyone she meets. She is very intelligent and her ability to learn new tricks quickly is amazing. Playful, curious, loyal and always happy are just a few ways of describing our Abby. After a long day, she will jump up on the couch, bed, or lay on the floor beside you for a nice long cuddle. We are looking forward to meeting her first litter of puppies. Waltzing Matilda Maddy : While Maddy was with us she blessed our home with over 40 puppies in 2 years!! She certainly earned her early retirement! Because she had such large litters we retired her at 3 years. She is now enjoying the traveling life and has fulfilled many of my travel dreams right beside her wonderful family! She has puppies that are all over the world now. We've got all the answers on why dogs kick when you give them a good scratch. The answer is in how you define a tickle. In humans, there are two types of tickle sensations. The second is gargalesis, a heavy tickling that can send you into a fit of laughter. Scientists have found that knismesis is common in mammals, including dogs, as a natural reflex. This involuntary response results from neurological stimulation from the light touch of a feather or from something crawling on your skin. If a dog has fleas or other irritants on him, for instance, he needs an alert to scratch it away. Instead of human-sounding laughter, a dog might pant or sigh while being tickled, according to the American Kennel Club. The rhythmic jerking of a hind leg is known as the scratch reflex. The kicking happens automatically as the dog does not think about this. The harder your scratch, the bigger the kick. This scratch reflex evolved as a way for animals to protect themselves against irritants on their bodies, like bugs that could carry diseases. The knismesis tickle of the bug on their skin activates the reflex, allowing them to kick away the source of the itch. Where Is My Dog Ticklish? Dogs have different areas that tickle their scratch reflex. The most common areas include the belly , ears, neck, back, base of the tail, and paws. But other than a good leg kick, how can you tell if your dog is enjoying the attention? Burch says. A dog can't tell you if it likes tickling, so how do you know when to stop? More sensitive dogs can become irritated by tickling and will let you know with body language. An extreme sensitivity to touch can sometimes be an indication of a health problem, she added. Early Neural Stimulation They give unconditional love and undying loyalty in return for regular meals and an occasional pat on the head. Military developed a method on their canine program that is the basis of the Early Neural Stimulation Program here at Southern Charm Labradoodles. In an effort to improve the performance of dogs used for military purposes, a program called "Bio Sensor" was developed. The military learned that performing early neurological stimulation exercises with puppies could have important and lasting effects. The studies showed that there are specific time periods early in life when neurological stimulation has maximum results. The first period begins at the third day of life and lasts until the sixteenth day, because this interval of time is a period of rapid neurological growth and development. Each session involved handling puppies once each day. The workouts required handling them one at a time while performing a series of five exercises. The handling of each pup involves the following exercises, all performed on each pup before moving on to the next pup: Tactile stimulation - holding the pup in one hand, the handler gently tickles the pup between the toes on any one foot using a Q-tip. It is not necessary to see that the pup is feeling the tickle. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds. Head held erect - using both hands, the pup is held perpendicular to the ground, straight up , so that its head is directly above its tail. Head pointed down - holding the pup firmly with both hands the head is reversed and is pointed downward so that it is pointing towards the ground. Supine position - hold the pup so that its back is resting in the palm of both hands with its muzzle facing the ceiling. The pup while on its back is allowed to sleep or struggle. Time of stimulation seconds. Thermal stimulation - use a damp towel that has been cooled in a refrigerator for at least five minutes. Place the pup on the towel, feet down. The pup is not restrained from moving. This type of program does not replace the daily love and handling each pup receives beginning the moment it is born here at Southern Charm.
