Upcoming Miniature Englishdoodle Litters Upcoming Standard Englishdoodle Litters English-doodles are an excellent choice for those customers that are seeking temperament over popularity and color trends. When crossing the English-creme Golden Retriever and the poodle, we create a hybrid with the calm and polite, laid back temperament of the English creme golden retriever, yet we increase the lifespan with the poodle. American golden retrievers have long legs and are very athletic, but the English cremes have shorter legs and are not as strong in agility. To be in the presence of an English-creme golden retriever, customers are often struck with their politeness and how very calm they are. We feel the English-doodles are the finest puppies coming out of our program based on temperament alone. An excellent choice for those seeking a therapy dog, or those that may have children with special needs. Organizations like Domesti-pups have chosen our dogs for training therapy dogs. Several of our puppies have gone on to receive their Therapy Dog Certifications. When choosing for color, choose the bernedoodle or classic American Goldendoodle. When choosing for temperament alone, choose the Englishdoodle. There is nothing wrong with the temperaments of the Bernedoodles or Goldendoodles, nor is there anything wrong with choosing a dog for color, but we simply believe the Englishdoodles are one step above the others in regards to temperament and this is often very evident during bath time as they seem to lay in the water and handle the stress of the forced air blow dryer. Sizes: We currently offer standard and miniature English-doodles. Our standards can sometimes take on a stocky-shorter build like the English-creme parent. They tend to be heavy set and dense. Standards can weigh between 65 and 80 pounds. Our miniatures are between 28 and 35 pounds. It is important to keep in mind that in any litter each pup can take after either parent. On selection day we like to compare the pups with each other, noting which ones are husky, stocky and have the retriever build. Also which ones are leaner and longer legged like the poodle. We specialize in comparing skeletal structures. We are now offering the F1s and the F1b's. The F1 choice will be fine for those with moderate to low allergy concerns. F1s are classified as minimal shed. If you have a family member with severe allergies, you may find the F1b type just what you're looking for. These coat types are considered a high maintenance coat type and regular grooming every 6 to 8 weeks is required. Coat colors that we offer: Creme, Champagne, Apricot. Of course the high intelligence of the poodle is also passed down in the cross. Retrievers naturally desire to eliminate in long grass and potty training should be relatively easy for these reasons. Health and Life-span: As the English-creme golden retriever has a short life span of 7 to 8 years and is prone to cancer, hip dysplasia and Ichthyosis, crossing them with a poodle provides the hybrid vigor and increases life expectancy to 12 years or more. We have selected English-creme retrievers from the finest lines across Europe with World Winning pedigrees and famous lines like Dewmist Silk screen. Our Story When our 1st son was 18 months old, he was bitten by a family member's dog when he fell on her. She was a common rescue mix and even though she was kind and showed no aggression before, we had to pry her off of his head. This was a horrifying experience, and it was very hard on the family. After that happening, we knew we needed a family friendly breed for our young family. We chose a Golden Retriever puppy and she was loving, smart and affectionate. I started adding a few breeding dogs to my program and began a wonderful adventure. I have always longed for the farm experience that I grew up with. Both of us grew up in farm settings, and have always been around raising animals and puppies. I knew that breeding dogs would give me the love of the farm, at our home near Boise, Idaho. It is the perfect match for me. We started breeding Goldendoodle puppies and have never looked back. I will always be a dog breeder. It fits my personality perfectly. When we started our journey for a family dog, we were where you are. The journey you're on is not easy. If you've researched, you know that Goldendoodles are amazing with families and children. Feel free to reach out to us for support, we are here to help you in the process. Authority Check it out! I am proud to be published in the Complete Guide to Goldendoodles. I dedicate myself full-time to being a Goldendoodle Breeder. We put our heart and soul into being professional and dedicated. I am learning every single day something new about genetics, health or breeding. I network with hundreds of other breeders where we discuss changes in the parent breeds, new medications, materials, new genetic testing, and trends. I also have a handful of excellent specialized veterinarians that I work with weekly to ensure the best care of our moms and puppies. We carefully learn about genetics and commit to extensive ongoing research in health, genetics, training and breed practices for goldendoodles. We are an in-home goldendoodle breeder. We purpose to always be adding more and more health testing to our breeding program. Our Mommas We run a Guardian Program, which is on of the best breeding practices in existence. We breed full-time and therefore have lots of experience. Small breeders often make many mistakes because they only breed occasionally. They don't have the knowledge or resources to improve the breed. We average litters a year. Are we a puppy mill because of many puppies being produced? We are the farthest things from a puppy mill. Puppy mills kennel their many mother dogs and puppies for most of their lives. They re-sell their retired mothers for cheap prices, donate them to rescues, or even worse, euthanize them. Our mother dogs are pampered, and cared for with their loving families and live with no more than 1 other dog forever in the same home they were raised in. They are bred for only up to 4 times, and if they have no health issues. We are able to have many, happy dogs this way. No mother dogs are kept outdoors or in dirty, disease infected areas. In fact, they get more attention than most dogs because we hand select homes where the environment is extremely healthy emotionally and physically for a family dog. They have kids to play with, usually an adult home most of the day, sometimes another doggie playmate and of course, there are two families watching out for their health. They are groomed, exercised required , vetted, protected, and loved! Champion Lines Champion Lines means that there are close relatives of a dog that has achieved a Champion title in the show ring. We import our parent dog's lines, so they are from International Champion Lines. This is Ace for example. We raised Ace as a puppy and he now lives in Washington, DC with our sister, as a stud for our breeding program. He has 15 International Champions and 1 World Champion in his 5 generation pedigree. Several of his puppies are now grown and are currently in our Guardian Program having mini teddybear Goldendoodle puppies. She is such a wonderful example of a sweet, highly trainable mini Goldendoodle puppy. Trainability Blossom, one of our talented puppies has achieved "Trick Dog Champion. She also opens the refrigerator, gets you a drink of water and closes the fridge. She is a dock diving dog and a demo dog for a highly regarded trainer in Northern California. See her HERE. We breed our own lines of English Golden Retrievers and all of our future breeding dogs will be English Golden Retrievers. We partner with family members and choose from the very best puppies to introduce into our program. Our current American Golden Retriever mommas also have many of these characteristics. We chose them because out of the American lines, they have similar qualities. We look for blocky, mellow, and great health testing in our parent dogs. We found that most English Cream Golden Retrievers have all three of those qualities. Some American Golden Retrievers have all three, but they are hard to find. Their hip testing has significantly higher scores. The other genetic tests we do on our dogs are often much better with the English. Their temperament is the biggest difference that most people notice between the two types. They are much more mellow. We feel that because our puppies will be family and service dogs instead of hunting or agility dogs, we think that the mellow, laid back temperament of the English Golden will be best for our lines. English creams have a wonderful body style for Teddybear Goldendoodles. They are blocky and thick. This offsets the lean, athletic build of the poodle and perfectly compliments them. They are the parent dog for us! Our Puppies Our puppies are thoroughly and highly socialized. Our puppies are handled daily by children of all ages. Our Goldendoodle puppies are exposed to every household noise because they are raised in a home. They are in the dining room or living room areas so that they are close by all the daily activities in the home. This also gives everyone in the home convenient access to socialize them as part of family life. As they grow, we integrate outside playtime for the puppies part of the day, so that they learn the dog world as well as the people world. A few of our breeding females are active therapy dogs in facility settings. We have sold several diabetic alert dogs DADS and many to be trained for therapy and service. We work with local and national trainers to choose potential puppies. Golden Retrievers are known to be the all-around best family dogs in the world. They are trainable, easy going, and safe with children. That's why we initially chose a Golden Retriever when we had a young family. They are great at agility, retrieving, hunting and they have beautiful soft coats. Most of all, Golden Retrievers are people pleasers and will do almost anything to earn affection. They are one breed and so their temperaments are the same, just in different sizes. They are the second smartest dog in the world and easily trained. They are alert, and of course, non-shedding! They give the Goldendoodle their lovely fleecy and easy to groom coat. Why Goldendoodles Goldendoodles are retrievers with a soft mouth, affectionate, and highly intelligent. They have endurance and agility. Goldendoodles have what Breeders call "Hybrid Vigor. This contributes to their health and minimizes the breed specific hereditary health predispositions. Goldendoodles often grow stronger than both parent breeds. They often have better hips, eyes, and lifespan. To get a book on Goldendoodles, click here. Please reload. We are premier breeders of English Cream Goldendoodles also known as white goldendoodles or British type goldendoodles. We specialize in the miniature stature of goldendoodles using championed lines from both English Cream Golden Retrievers and long legged white Toy Poodles. When we researched our breed we discovered some important things. The intelligence of the poodle as well as the low to minimal shedding coat gave families with allergies an opportunity to welcome one of our fur babies into their homes. Lastly, the smaller size of the toy poodle produced a manageable size for all families. We decided to breed this combination to offer beautiful, healthy, mini goldendoodle puppies that give us the best of both worlds! Read our Story Our dogs come from top quality bloodlines. Our puppies are more than an adorable face. Our number one goal is providing you with a puppy that has a sound temperament and the health to back it up. We do everything possible to ensure that your puppy is with you, making a difference, for years to come. When looking through our pedigrees, you will find multiple championships in conformation, field trials, obedience and more. Each dog that is used in our program is extremely vetted. In addition to conformation, our dogs must pass health clearances — including hips, elbows, eyes, heart, and ICH testing — before admission into our program. It is important to understand that our AKC Championed sires are genetic long-legged toy poodles with patella clearances. Long-legs will ensure that your dog is proportionate in size, allowing for proper distribution of weight and healthier joints. They tend to have a wavy to straight coat. They usually have a blockier stature from the English Golden Retriever. Our F1's range from pounds. They tend to have a more wavy to curly coat. Our F1B's range from pounds. Why do German Shepherd puppies need the best dog food? German Shepherd puppies need dog food designed for large breed puppies to ensure controlled joint and bone growth. This is because large-breed puppies are prone to certain health risks like hip dysplasia and other Orthopedic conditions. The best dog food for German Shepherds will ensure your puppy grows healthy, strong, energetic, and with lovely skin and coats. Nutritional requirements for German Shepherds puppies German Shepherd puppies require a balanced diet that contains four types of nutrients below. These ingredients will ensure that your pup grows and develops optimally for a longer quality of life. Proteins Proteins help the puppies in building up their body tissues. Proteins can be found in chicken, salmon, beef, lamb, eggs, and dairy. Fats Fats are important for healthy skin, fur, brain, and vision. The recommended fat level per dry matter basis is 8. Fats can be found in fish oil, chicken fat, and beef fat. Digestible carbohydrates Because puppies are incredibly energetic, they need digestible carbs to provide them with energy. Digestible carbohydrates can be found in rice, sweet potatoes, potatoes, and whole oats. Micronutrients In addition to these key nutrients, German Shepherd puppies also need micronutrients like calcium, phosphorus, DHA, and omega-3, and vitamin A. They also need fiber to promote digestion and bowel movement and clean water to help with bodily functions. For large dog breed only: Foods specially formulated for German Shepherd puppies: Veterinarian and pet advisor Dr. Choose a dog food that is specially formulated for German Shepherds puppies or large breed puppies can ensure your pups are getting the nutritional requirements at every stage of their growth. The opposite side is giving your pup the wrong food that may lead to serious growth and digestive problems. Things to consider before choosing dog food for German Shepherds puppies 1. Their growth Puppies may need different nutrients at different stages depending on their growth rate. For instance, a puppy in the weaning stage between three to four weeks will need more antioxidants which are found in foods containing Vitamin C and E. In contrast, a teething puppy will need wet dog food which is easily digestible food on its tummy to minimize intestinal upset. For instance, a younger puppy may have difficulty eating larger food pieces than an older puppy. Teething If your dog is teething, which starts at around three weeks, you may want to consider food that contains calcium like dairy and bone broth for strong and healthy teeth. On the other hand, if the dog has teething problems, wet food may be a better option than dry food until they recover. Alternatively, you add wet canned food to their kibble to make it soft and palatable. The body weight An underweight puppy has different dietary requirements from an overweight puppy. You do not want to underfeed or overfeed your puppy. Activity Level Puppies that are extremely active require foods high in carbohydrates to keep up their energy levels. If your dog is not as active, you want to keep the carbs down to avoid obesity. With all the many dry foods out on the market, it can be hard to choose the healthiest for your pups. Step 1. The Association of American Feed Control Officials developed nutrient profiles to establish minimum and some maximum nutrient concentrations for dogs and cats. These profiles are updated when new findings from research in pet nutrition become available. They provide practical guidance for pet food manufacturers. Adult Maintenance: Dog foods formulated for adult maintenance have the nutrients adult dogs need. Dogs over the age of one are considered adults, except for some large and giant breeds who do not fully mature until age two. You may see variations of these nutrient profiles on dog food packaging. Step 2. Read the food label The label is the most important thing you should check when deciding which puppy food to pick. Here are the 3 things you would like to read on the packaging: a. List of ingredients The list of ingredients should have the main ingredient as the first ingredient then followed by the rest according to their percentage. For instance, in the label below the first five ingredients, are chicken as the main ingredient, ground whole grain corn, chicken by-product meal, ground whole grain sorghum, corn gluten meal and dried plain beet pulp. Feeding guidelines This will show you how much food and how many times you should feed your puppy. Watch this video if you want to better understand the wording on a dog food packaging means: Step 3. Are there any claims of pups reacting to the food? Do the users recommend or warn against the food? Of course, you want to go with what the majority of the reviewers say. You can also check dogadvisor. Step 4. The vet is in a better place to advise on what type of food to go for or what ingredients to avoid. Best dry foods for German Shepherds Puppies There are hundreds of dog foods out there with fancy names and ingredients, which make it so hard for dog owners to find the right food for their pups. To help you narrow down your search, we asked a couple of vets to suggest the best dog food for German Shepherds puppies. Purina Pro Plan — For sensitive skin and allergies Why do we like it? The transition should be gradual, and the puppy should be constantly monitored. More posts on feeding your German Shepherds Must read:. It also tends to be high in protein. Most puppy food also includes vitamin and mineral supplements, such as calcium and phosphorus, for healthy and strong bones and teeth. Learn More One of the many great things about Doodles is that they can come in all shapes and sizes, colors and coat types. But what do all of those things mean exactly? What Are Doodle Furnishings? Unfurnished Doodles have smooth facial hair and they resemble more of the other original parent. In fact, unfurnished Doodles are becoming more and more popular. Many people prefer flat coat Doodles, as they resemble less of the Poodle parent, but still benefit from hybrid vigour and less shedding. The easiest way to determine if your Doodle has a furnishing or an improper coat is by looking at their face. Do they have a distinguishably longer beard and eyebrows? For example, a Goldendoodle without furnishings would have a smooth face with no distinctive brows or mustache. Another thing to keep in mind is that puppies will change their coats once they reach adulthood. The most foolproof way of determining if your Doodle puppy has furnishings is by genetic testing and experience. As you might know, Doodles are a combination of at least two different breed dogs. Naturally, this means that a Doodle can end up with a variety of traits and characteristics from each parent pup. Labradoodle with a straight coat. For example, a straight coat Goldendoodle can very well have furnishings. However, a flat coat Goldendoodle will come with a smooth face with no distinctive Doodle look around the eyes or muzzle. An unfurnished Doodle does not have any coat furnishings. Also, the beard, eyebrows, and mustache are all pretty much the same length and not as distinguishable. For instance, an unfurnished Goldendoodle will resemble more of the Golden Retriever parent. Doodles carry two copies of genes that indicate either furnishing or improper coat. The furnishing gene is dominant and a dog only needs one copy of the furnishing gene to present the scruffy Doodle look. As a result, F1 Doodles almost always come with furnished coats. However, it gets trickier with subsequent generations, as both parent dogs can carry the recessive improper coat gene. Improper coat can be prevented by genetic testing. Specialized Doodle breeders who are after certain looks test their parent pups before breeding new litters. Curly-haired and furnished Doodles are loved by people who struggle with allergies. However, unfurnished Doodles have been gaining much popularity thanks to their low-maintenance coats and non-Poodle looks. All in all, it depends on the breeder and what type of puppies they specialize in. If a breeder does not do DNA testing, some puppies in the litter can end up with flat coats. Facial hair is longer with more distinctive eyebrows, beard, and mustache. Straight or slightly wavy hair that sits flat on the body. The face is smooth with shorter hair. No distinctive Doodle look. Shedding Might shed more than straight coat Doodles. Simply put, a furnished Doodle has longer hairs on the face and ears. A furnished Doodle will require regular grooming, as the hair keeps growing. However, some Doodles can end up with flat coats without furnishings. Their facial hair is smooth, much shorter, and they resemble more of the non-Poodle parent breed. In addition, flat coats only grow into a predetermined length. Many breeders do genetic testing to see if a dog carries either a fully furnished or improper coat gene. Do Unfurnished Bernedoodles Shed More? A furnished Bernedoodle would have a very Doodle-like look with longer and fluffier facial hair, and more prominent beard and eyebrows. On the other hand, an unfurnished Bernedoodle would have very smooth and short facial hair with no distinctive eyebrows or beard. Unfurnished Bernedoodles tend to shed more than furnished pups, but usually still less than their purebred parent. Both furnished and unfurnished Doodles have their pros and cons. If you suffer from allergies, you might want to opt for a furnished, curly-coated Doodle who is usually the least shedding out of them all. It all comes down to what look you prefer, and what type of upkeep is more manageable for you personally. We hope this article has helped you understand the difference between furnished and unfurnished Doodles, so you can make an educated decision before bringing your new four-legged family member home. Learn How to Upkeep Your Doodle! When people adopt Goldendoodles, they are often looking for them to have a certain appearance, and furnishings are sometimes a big part of a Goldendoodle 's appearance. So, how do you tell if a Goldendoodle puppy will have furnishings? Furnishings can be seen around the eyes, ears, and nose of a puppy. If the hair around the face is longer than the rest of the coat, the Goldendoodle puppy will have furnishings. Furnishings appear when Goldendoodles are around 6 months old, when the Goldendoodle sheds their puppy coat. To find out more about Goldendoodles and their furnishings, keep reading. What are Furnishings? Goldendoodles are known for their teddy bear-like faces, complete with a furry mustache and eyebrows. But not all Goldendoodles fit this description! Furnishings are the longer, poodle -like hairs on a Goldendoodle. Though furnishings are common in Goldendoodles, they aren't always present. The hair will also be curlier. Once they shed that puppy coat, their adult coat will have either furnishings or a flat coat. Puppy coats are thinner, softer coats meant to keep the puppy warm. Adult coats can still be soft but are usually thicker. They are coarser and built for warmth as well as protection of the skin and camouflage. Some dogs will develop a double coat, a coat of fur with a soft and fluffy underbelly close to the skin, and a thicker, coarser, longer coat on the top. Golden retrievers have this double coat that keeps them warmer through insulation. It also waterproofs their skin. Golden retrievers were bred in part to be swimmers, so the waterproofing of the coat was very important to early golden retriever breeders. Instead, they have a single thick, dense coat. Most dogs will shed when the weather gets warmer or cooler so they can grow a new coat to better protect them against the weather. Their coat is similar to human hair. When breeders breed Goldendoodles, they want that poodle hair that doesn't shed and can be styled. They work very hard to make sure that as many puppies as possible have furnishing rather than a flat coat. Do all Goldendoodles have Furnishings? Most people expect that all Goldendoodles have that warm, gold, curly hair that forms eyebrows and a mustache. There are some that have flat coats. Golden retrievers have flat coats, and poodles do not. When you breed a flat coated dog with a furnished dog, roughly three-quarters of the puppies should have furnishings. Once the puppies have shed their puppy coats and grown their first adult coat, you can watch for the fuzzy T shape down the snout and around the eyes. If the fur there is longer than the fur anywhere else, then the puppy will have furnishings. The hair will probably be curly as well, but there are straight hair puppies with furnishings as well. If the puppy does have furnishings, prepare for regular grooming to keep it all in check! The hair won't stop growing naturally, so it will have to be cut or it will start to take over your puppy's beautiful face. What Makes a Goldendoodle Have Furnishings? What gives a golden doodle furnishing is actually a question of genetics. Furnishings are a dominant gene , and flat coats are a recessive gene. So, if a dog has even one dominant furnishing gene, it will have furnishings. A dog has to have two recessive flat coat genes to have a flat coat. If a dog with two furnishing genes is bred with a dog that has two flat coat genes, all the puppies will have one furnishing gene and one flat coat gene. All the puppies will have furnishings, but their puppies could have flat coats if the puppies breed with a flat-coated dog. Statistically speaking, one of every four puppies will be flat coated and not have furnishings. They will also not be able to have furnished puppies. That being said, while flat coats are considered undesirable by dog breeders, flat-coated dogs are just as sweet and lovable as their furnished brothers and sisters. Cindy J. Welcome to the home of Previous Puppies The Furnishing and Curl Genes I would like to first start off by mentioning that many families have been led to believe that an F1b is the most Allergy friendly and or sheds less than other Generations. I can assure you that this is not the case. Allergies and shedding can have more to do with the furnishing and curl gene than the generation of the puppy. For example - Multi Generational puppies can carry the exact genes as an F1b puppy. Also keep in mind no breed of dog including doodles all do well with people that have dog allergies. The cause of the persons allergy can be based on a number of things such as the dogs coat, dander, saliva and outdoor allergens that your dog is coming in contact with on a consistent and ongoing bases, bringing those allergens into your home and to you. We have placed many puppies with families that have dog allergies very successfully. Please be courteous to your breeder, breeders are not Human Allergy Specialist nor do we have a crystal ball. It is your responsibility to meet the breed to determine if the average Goldendoodle will do well with your specific allergies. We do not offer meet and greets in our home to see how you or a family member would do, nor would you get a accurate assessment as we have pure bred Retrievers and Poodles and hopefully Bernedoodles, different Goldendoodle generations and a multi dogs household. Previous Puppies Curl Gene - Please see pictures of our dogs below for examples of what the different curl genes look like, keep in mind that the Furnishing gene also plays a role in coat. Interpretation: Straight coat Furnishing Gene - Please see pictures of our dogs below for examples of what the different furnishing genes look like, keep in mind that the curl gene also plays a role in coat. The term "Furnishings" refers to the longer mustache, eyebrows and full body coat length. However, the overall coat type of this dog is dependent on the combination of this dog's genotypes at the L, Cu, and IC loci. Interpretation: No Furnishings, improper coat. Flat coats are quite commonly seen in F2 Goldendoodles. These coats are easy to maintain when compared with curlier coated types. However, if you want a Goldendoodle that has the traditional teddy bear look, a flat-coated dog is not for you. Also, these dogs are moderate to high shedders and are, therefore, not recommended for a family with allergies. However, unlike flat-coated Doodles, the straight coat type does have furnishings and the fur tends to be fluffier in texture. Straight coat Goldendoodles are also referred to as loose coats or hair coats, and these pups have coats that are most like a Golden retriever. Also, these dogs do tend to shed quite heavily, making them unsuitable for those with pet allergies. So, if you take on one of these Goldendoodles, you must also be prepared to vacuum your carpets daily! Wavy Coat Image Source: Instagram. A wavy or shaggy coat is the most common type of Goldendoodle coat type, and they are also sometimes called fleece coats. In fact, the wavy coat occurs in all the most popular generations of Goldendoodles, including F1, F1b, and multigenerational dogs. Wavy Goldendoodles can be minimal shedders, although F1 and F2 dogs tend to be moderate to heavy shedders. So, to be certain as to whether your puppy will shed or not, always choose a reputable breeder that has had all their breeding dogs DNA tested. Curly Coat Curly coats are created when the puppy inherits a curl gene from each parent. These dogs have very dense, fleece-like coat characteristics that most closely resemble the coat of the Poodle parent. You will most commonly find curly coats in an F1B Goldendoodle or some of the multigenerational Goldendoodles. However, most owners prefer to have their dogs shaved or clipped. Curly Goldendoodles are minimal to non-shedding coats, which makes these dogs extremely sought after by people with pet allergies. If you leave the coat to grow without having your dog clipped, the curls will become very dense, making it difficult to gauge their length simply by looking at the coat. That said, eventually, the hair will stop growing. To make matters even more confusing, Goldendoodles commonly change color as they mature. Generally, if the puppy has a smooth face without furnishings, he will most likely have an improper or flat coat. Goldendoodle Coat Stages As previously mentioned, Goldendoodle puppies begin shedding their puppy coats once they reach around six months of age. By the time your puppy is eight months old or more, he will have his final adult coat. The final coat is usually not as soft and fluffy as the puppy coat. The coat change can be gradual or sudden, taking a matter of weeks or several months. Also, some super-soft adult Goldendoodle coats are virtually indistinguishable from the puppy coat. Until recently, crossbreeding dogs generally gave unpredictable results with the puppies taking more after one parent than the other. Now, DNA testing is commonly used by good breeders to determine what kind of coat their puppies will have. However, there are a few tried and tested methods of determining what kind of coat the puppy will have as an adult. That can be a good indicator for the coat type your dog will have as an adult. Generally, a prominent mustache is a clear indicator that the puppy will have a curly coat. Dogs that will go on to develop wavy coats tend to grow a shaggy beard around the muzzle. Straight-coated Goldendoodles usually have short, neat hair around their snout. If the puppy is anything other than an F1, first-generation pup, look at both the parent dogs. Generally, puppies take after one parent dog. However, genetics always have the final say when it comes to coat types. Inspiration For Names! One of the fun things about owning a Goldendoodle is choosing a name for your dog. For a few more ideas on what names you can choose for your Doodle puppy, check out this guide! Most people think of the Goldendoodle as having those classic teddy bear looks that everyone finds so adorable. However, not all puppies go on to develop that wavy or curly coat and furnishings that are so desirable. And, of all the generations, the F1B Goldendoodles are much less likely to have a significant coat change as they mature, although the coat coarseness and density are quite likely to increase. Interestingly, English Goldendoodles are more likely to have that boxy teddy bear features than American Goldendoodles. However, both kinds can develop the teddy bear appearance with the correct furnishings. Dogs with any of the three types of Goldendoodle coats can be with or without furnishings. F1 Goldendoodles are most likely to be without furnishings. That involvement entails providing access to the very latest research and expert guidance on canine reproduction, breed development, and puppy development. However, through the careful selection of mates, a good breeder can produce that adorable Teddy Bear look that people love so much. Shedding intensity can also be predicted through careful DNA research and careful breeding. The S gene that gives the dog a short coat is dominant. Doodle coats can be curly, straight, or wavy, depending on the number of curl genes that they take from their parents. What Are Furnishings? Commonly known as the F gene, the gene, RSP02 is responsible for those furnishings. Improper Coat A coat that has no furnishings is known as an improper coat or IC. Goldendoodles that have Ff or F IC or one copy of the furnishings gene tend to be lighter shedders than dogs that do have furnishings. I hope you enjoyed this guide! What kind of coat did you think your puppy would grow, and how did it actually turn out? Tell us in the comments box below. Some Goldendoodles might carry the gene responsible for facial furnishings which gives them their signature fluffy coats, while other Goldendoodles might end up carrying the improper coat gene which gives them flat coats. So, how do you tell if your Goldendoodle puppy will have furnishings? What Are Goldendoodle Furnishings? Even though the open face look is considered a breed standard for golden retrievers, it is considered an improper coat or an incorrect in Goldendoodles. Why Do Goldendoodles Have Furnishings? Since the furnishing gene is dominant, most Goldendoodles will have furnishings. When breeding first-generation F1 Goldendoodles, the puppies will inherit one gene from each parent which means they will almost always have furnishings. When it comes to breeding second-generation F2 Goldendoodles, the results can be a little more unpredictable. If one or both parents carry the dominant gene FF , then the puppies will have furnishings. You can learn more about how the breeding of Goldendoodles works in my article on the best Goldendoodles for allergies here. Breeding mixed breeds like Goldendoodles can generally give unpredictable results as the puppies will usually take more after one parent than the other. So, the most effective way for Goldendoodle breeders and owners to ensure that their puppies will have the desired furnishings is to genetically test the parent dogs before breeding new litters. The results of the test will help you determine what genes the parents are carrying and the chances of them producing a litter of puppies with furnishings. So, if the goal is to breed puppies with furnishings, you need to make sure the Poodle parent is carrying two of the dominant furnishing gene FF. At birth, a Goldendoodle puppy will not have any signs of furnishings. It will also be impossible to tell the kind of coat the dog will have as it grows older. After a few weeks, the dog will start growing its facial furnishings as well as its puppy coat which it will shed later on before growing its final adult coat. Some breeders can also determine the kind of coat the Goldendoodle will have based on the presence of furnishings. Make sure to pay attention to the areas around the eyes and mouth. Make sure to use a fine-tooth metal comb and a bristle brush. Try not to tug or press down too hard while brushing as the areas around the eyes and mouth are very sensitive and you might accidentally hurt your dog. Goldendoodles with furnishings do not shed more. Furnishings are usually an indicator that the Goldendoodle will grow wavy or curly coats which are known to shed less compared to straight coats. The main kinds of Goldendoodle coats are wavy, curly, or straight. As puppies Goldendoodles have smooth flat coats. When they get older, they will shed their puppy coats and grow their final adult coats. Keep in mind that the frequency of the brushing will mainly depend on the kind of coat your Goldendoodle has. Dogs with longer, curlier coats need to be brushed more often than dogs with short, straight coats. These are the best leashes, collars, and harnesses for the buck that you can find. By Kern Campbell Furnished Goldendoodles result from careful breeding. Breeders are often keen when choosing the right Goldendoodle parents. It is, therefore, not easy to tell whether the Goldendoodle puppy will have furnishings. However, there are a few things a breeder can observe and use to conclude. How can you tell if a Goldendoodle puppy will have furnishings? The surest way to determine whether a Goldendoodle puppy will have furnishings is to carry out a genetic test. The presence of an IC Locus gene is the best indicator. Mixed breeds make it hard to predict the traits and characters they are likely to follow. For example, some Goldendoodles are responsible for carrying the facial furnishings gene, which gives them distinct fluffy coats. However, other Goldendoodles carry the gene for an improper coat responsible for their flat coat. Ultimately, it is all about the gene composition of the dog. The parent animal whose gene is dominant will determine the coat the Goldenpuppy assumes when born. Keep reading to uncover more. Knowing whether your Goldendoodle puppy will likely have furnishings needs you to carry out a gene test. You must test the parents to see whether they have the furnishing gene. Your puppies are more likely to have this trait if the parents are first-generation Goldendoodles with the furnishing genes and not second-generation. Dogs with these types of hairs are considered highly desirable breeds of Goldendoodles because they give the dog a signature teddy-bear-like look. Flat hair coat on Goldendoodles is thus considered an improper coat and undesirable trait in these dog breeds. Most Goldendoodles will have furnishings because this gene is one of the most dominant. However, it is possible and common to find doodles with no furnishings, especially if they are from second and third-generation parents. How Does Breeding Work? Understanding the presence of furnishings in Goldendoodles needs one to look at their breeding process. This means that most Goldendoodles will have the dominant gene present and thus are likely to end up with furnishings. This happens if first-generation Goldendoodles are bred as they inherit a strong gene from either parent. However, second-generation breeding of golden doodles often results in a less predictable outcome because the dogs have both dominant and less dominant genes, so the puppies can inherit either. If the parents have dominant furnishing genes, puppies get the furnishings. However, the opposite is true; if the parents have recessive furnishing genes, the puppies will have flat coats. Ensuring Goldendoodle Puppies Get Furnishings? Mixed dog breeding can be tricky since the puppies may take genes from either parent. So there is always no guarantee unless you want to do the hard work. This means you must ensure both parents have strong furnishing genes to be confident that the puppy will also end up with furnishings. What are the Benefits of Furnishings? The primary benefit is that furnishings give the puppies a fluffy, cuddly appearance that most owners love. Your puppy will be a great cuddle buddy any time because they look like a real-life teddy bear. For instance, Goldendoodles with furnishings around the mustache or the beard area have curlier coats , while those with no furnishings come with flat coats. However, it should be noted that furnished Goldendoodles are not necessarily superior to flat coats. It is also a matter of preference. When Do Goldendoodles Develop Furnishings? Breeders can tell that their puppies will have furnishings after a few weeks. However, it is impossible to tell the kind of coat or fur your Goldendoodle will have at birth because most puppies look the same at this age. It takes a few weeks for the furnishings to grow and the coat to develop. Now that your puppy has developed its furnishings and grown into a big furry dog, it is vital to understand how best to groom them. The furnishings will make your Goldendoodle have a lot of fur on the face. Without proper grooming, these furs can get tangled and accumulate dirt. To avoid this from happening, consider the following grooming tips. Focus more on the mouth and face areas. Use a bristle brush comb. The last thing you want is to harm the dog while grooming them. Using an electric clipper, consider trimming the hairs on the cheeks, making sure not to hurt the dog. Swipe twice and go slowly to avoid hurting your dog. Use blunt-end scissors as opposed to clippers to make it safer for the dog. One other concern that you may have besides grooming is shedding. However, this is not something you have to worry about. Contrary to the expectation that more fur would mean more shedding, Goldendoodles with furnishings tend to develop curly coats and not shed. However, this does not mean you do not have your work cut out for you. Prepare for more grooming work since curly fur makes the coat more likely to tangle and suffer from matting. Are Flat Coated Goldendoodles Rare? While many breeders prefer to produce furnished doodles because they are preferred for their less shedding coats, flat-coated doodles are not a rare occurrence. Since this is a matter of chance and genetics, it is possible that despite the careful selection of the parents, puppies may turn out flat-coated. Unless genetic tests are done before breeding, taking a gamble with any parents when breeding could result in either furnished or flat-coated puppies. Either way, the Goldendoodles will still be adorable. However, the flat-coated doodles will; resemble the parents more than the furnished ones, which are hairier. Regardless of the Goldendoodle type you choose, you can be sure that the dog will be a great companion. Select the dog based on your ability to care for and groom them adequately.

They are undoubtedly one of the friendliest, most intelligent, and caring breeds you will ever come across. They are known to be extremely active, easy to train , and get along with just about anyone, or anything. It is for these reasons that Labradoodles have emerged as immensely popular pets for families, as well as people in search of a companion. Another renowned quality of a Labradoodle, is their love for sleep. However, it can be tough to tell if your dog is getting the right amount of sleep, or if their sleeping behavior is normal. Labradoodle Puppy Sleep vs Labradoodle Adult Sleep One major difference to point out is that as with any other breed, there will be a big difference in how much they sleep depending on how old they are. For example, during the puppy stage, Labradoodles can sleep for up to 20 hours in a single day! When it comes to a Labradoodle puppy, many owners are under the impression that that excited new pup you just brought into the house is going to run circles around the house. And while this is a very realistic possibility, expect them to tire out quick. When you first get any new puppy, you can expect them to sleep throughout most of the day. THis is true no matter the dog breed. This sleep pattern is called polyphasic, and is very common amongst dogs of all breeds. This is likely due to their wolf ancestors that were on alert all day and night from potential predators. So, if you ever notice your dog sleeping , only to randomly wake up in an instant with a crazy burst of energy, this is likely due to their ancestors. Though there are other reasons a dog might be hyper When do Labradoodle puppies sleep less? A cute Labradoodle takes a sleep on the couch Even though puppies sleep for 20 hours a day, this will likely decrease once they reach about 4 months of age, at which point more factors such as routine, personality, exercise, and environment will play a role. Adult Labradoodles on the other hand can vary a little more depending on the amount of playtime, and exercise the dog is getting. Once your dog matures, they will be more inclined to find new ways to have fun, and new things to explore. All of these new discoveries, and exploration can leave your dog sleeping for hours of the day. Though an adult dog will be more affected by their environment, and exercise than a puppy would. Also adult Labradoodles sleep patterns will depend more so on their personality, and exercise routine. Every dog is different, and so there is a chance that one dog will be more energetic than another. If you give your dog daily walks, and spend about minutes playing with them, they should get hours of sleep a night without a problem. All of the following tips are designed to be made into routines to ensure your dog is receiving an adequate amount of sleep. Labradoodle puppies will sleep up to 20 hours a day. Labradoodle Diet Impacts Sleep One of the first things you should consider if you ever run into sleep problems with your pooch, is to take a look at what they are eating. Mealtime is the easiest thing to regulate, as you have full control over when, and how the dog receives their meals. Exercise more, Sleep more Exercise is potentially the most vital way to ensure that your dog is getting the proper amount of sleep. Consistency is key once again when it comes to exercise, especially with an active breed like Labradoodles. The good news is that this step is fairly easy, as they typically need no more than 1 hour a day of exercise, all of which can be accomplished by playing fetch, and taking them for a walk. Teach your Labradoodle a SLEEP command Believe it or not but Labradoodles are so intelligent that they can learn to rely severely on the vocal interaction you have with them. Labradoodles are used to being around people all day, which makes them more likely to develop separation anxiety which can lead to a lack of sleep. Even simple greetings like hello in the morning, and good night in the evening can go a long way in moderating this fear. However, adult Labradoodles can be more prone to certain health conditions if they do not receive enough sleep. Be sure to keep an eye out for potential symptoms of any of these conditions, and be aware of how many hours of sleep your dog is getting. Ensuring they have a healthy, and safe sleep environment at all times. Is it bad that my adult Labradoodles sleeps all day? Can dogs then get too much sleep? Adult Labradoodles however are more affected by their environment, and other external factors, and so there is more to consider. In most cases, Labradoodles are more than fine sleeping on the ground, couch, or bed during random times of the day. And some days they may be more active than others, meaning that they will sleep more often. Do old Labradoodles sleep more? Typically, an older Labradoodle dog will sleep for longer periods the older they get. Aside from the fact that older dogs have far less energy pent up, requiring far less exercise. Senior dogs also sometimes have joint pain, and stiffness which leads to less mobility. Keep an eye out for this with older dogs, as their increased sleep is mostly normal, but at the same time may be a sign for something more serious if it persists or worsens. Because of the fact that Labradoodles are active breeds, there is a greater chance that your doodle will spend more time sleeping when compared to other breeds. Because we have worked extensively with our doodles on crate training, there should be little to no crying the first few nights with your new puppy. Deer Creek doodle puppies sleep from midnight to 6 A. M and are holding their potty during that time before going to their new homes. Before puppies are months old, house training is more about management on the human's part and the better the human does at managing mistakes in the house, the sooner the puppy will be completely house trained. Our idea of completely house trained is when a dog tells you they have to go out on their own or use a doggy door, otherwise you are still in the management phase. I know that sounds obvious, but it can be hard at times. It is very easy to give puppies the wrong signals if you pet them or baby talk them while they are being fearful, over excited, etc and in these situations you are actually telling them you like how they are behaving. Rules and discipline are just as important as rewards and a puppy likes to know their boundaries to feel safe. Make sure everyone knows the rules and is consistent on what is allowed and not allowed in the house ex: jumping on the couch, jumping up on people, etc. Having rules makes a respectful dog. Just like children, puppies thrive on structure and will live in confusion if there are no boundaries- making everyone unhappy. Most importantly, expose your puppy to everything you would want them to be a part of in your life within their first 16 weeks of age. During this age, you should continue to socialize your puppy to strangers, take them in the car and in pet friendly stores. You should also continue to get them accustomed to being examined, clipped and bathed at an early age to avoid any behavior problems in these areas in the future. Puppy Schedule: AM: The puppies wake up and are carried outside to the designated potty spot right away. They are carried in the beginning to avoid any mistakes before making it out the door. After a few days of this routine, the puppies are able to run outside on their own after being let out of their crates and no longer need carried. Do not play with your puppy outside when you are taking them out to go to the bathroom. Go back inside first and then go back outside to play. Puppies must not be allowed to roam freely in your home. You have to watch the puppies during the playtime to ensure they do not need another bathroom break. Anytime you are not feeding, holding or playing with your puppy, he should be in the crate. This is very important the first few weeks in your home to continue the crate training. If you allow a very young puppy too much time out in your house unsupervised you can expect some accidents. Once a puppy starts to potty in the house it is harder to break that pattern. Keeping an eye on your puppy at all times during this stage is very important so you can catch their signal that they need to go as soon as possible. They will usually sniff the floor in a circular pattern. Just scoop them up and head out the door to the potty spot. After they go potty outside, praise and even reward with a treat. This will speed up the house-training process. Perform this pattern throughout the day. Be sure that you puppy has finished both 1 and 2 outside before allowing them playtime. A lot of puppies will do both things more than once. Do not play with them at this time so they know they are going out for a reason. If they have not done both things outside, place the puppy back in the crate for a little while and then take them outside again before allowing any playtime in the house. Deer Creek doodles are used to sitting calmly before given each meal as instructed. This is the last time the puppies eat or drink, leaving them satisfied but also allowing enough time before bed to use the bathroom several times to limit any overnight accidents. Now is a great time to play with, exercise or teach your puppy a new trick before bed to wear them down and help them sleep. Reminder : Do not allow your puppy to roam freely around the house at any time of the day without complete supervision. The puppies go in their crates with command "In Your Bed" and are given a treat. The lights are turned out and we say "goodnight. They settle down and relax in their crates because they associate it as their beds. In a new environment, your puppy may or may not whine 30 minutes or less to test their new home, but then will settle shortly and connect the new location with their old training. It is important not to get them out of their crates when they are behaving in a way you do not like because they will associate their negative behavior to a positive "reward" that is getting out of the crate. If your puppy does continue to cry, be sure they cannot see you. Place them in another room and turn out the lights and place a blanket or towel over the crate. You can also play some soothing music or ambient noise in the room with them and give them a Kong toy with a yummy filling inside to occupy them. We do not recommend sleeping with your puppy or with the puppy sleeping in a crate in your bedroom as anytime you were to move the puppy would wake up and have to go out to potty no matter what time of night it may be. Place the crate in another room near the door they would be going out, this is best for house training. Keep in mind you are really the one who is "house trained" in the beginning, knowing when to take the puppy outside to potty, to recognize their body language of needing to potty, and to monitor them closely when they are not in their crate. The better the human does in the beginning at limiting accidents in the house, the faster the puppy will be house trained. We also recommend the poochie bells to help your puppy learn through training how to ask to go outside. Use tab to navigate through the menu items. Creating a space that resembles his environment here at Juniper Ridge will also help your puppy be successful in going potty in the right place and sleeping well. Ideally if you can set up a puppy area in your kitchen or main living area it is best. Use baby gates or an X pen links on our supply list to create a space 4X6 or larger with a bed, or an open crate with a bed inside. If you use a crate, leave the crate open when you are around, so puppy can go in and out freely and have access to his bed. Have fresh water in puppy's space, a few feet from his bed, and feed him there too. Also place a potty station a few feet away. Puppies do not want to potty on their bed or by their food and will use their station if they know where it is : There are a variety of potty stations that work well. Puppy pee pads are convenient but unless they are anchored in some fashion or covered by a grate they will be shredded! So for most families the grass mat in a tray supply list or a large shallow litter pan with wood pellets work well. Puppy does not need to stay in this area of course, but does need access to it; to retreat to when he is tired and needs a nap, or to retreat to when he simply needs to feel safe and secure. Remember that puppies are little, they can get lost in your home just like a young child in a grocery store. Remember that feeling? Therefore introduce puppy to larger spaces and different rooms gradually, over a period of several days. Puppy needs to know how to find his way back to his potty station and bed, and he may need to get there quickly : But I want my puppy to sleep by my bed. That is totally up to you! Of course puppy will love that too! But sleep lightly because puppy may still wake and need to go potty some time in the middle of the night for a few weeks: Just set up a potty station close by and direct him there if needed, no fuss and back to sleep! If your bedroom is upstairs be sure puppy is set up with a nap time retreat bed, potty station and water downstairs where he spends most of the day. It will help your puppy's little digestive system and help you to anticipate when he will need to go potty. A puppy on a consistent schedule is a relaxed and confident puppy; and a puppy that makes very few potty "mistakes". They generally sleep about 2 hours. Some may crash for a short nap from pm - Lunch and potty then play pm wake, potty and play; again some may snooze from pm pm Dinner, play and potty pm Puppies have sought out their bed and are fast asleep. Depending on activity level some puppies are asleep by .As puppies get older the play time lasts longer and the naps shorten. After 6 months puppy can eat twice a day, just breakfast and dinner. Take puppy's collar off for safety in a crate, and give a treat inside the crate when you leave. Be calm and do not fuss over puppy or treat when you return as this encourages anticipation for your return and associated unwanted behaviors. Believe us, puppy will always be happy to see you! See our puppy schedule! Take him to the place you want him to learn to go potty when you think he may need to go. Praise him when he does! We say "go potty, go potty" every time we see puppy going potty in his potty station. Puppy associates this with going potty, so pretty soon just by saying the phrase puppy will "try" to go. Say this same thing when taking puppy outside; and after a few weeks of consistently going outside you can eliminate the indoor potty station. Never, ever, ever scold puppy for going potty- even if its on your best rug. What were you thinking leaving your best rug or shoes out when you have a puppy anyway? Control your emotion and realize you have made the mistake, not your puppy. Your puppy will not associate the scolding with "where", he only will associate the scolding with his "going potty" action. He will then hide and be afraid when he has to go potty and then you have a mess - a sad and confused puppy, and poop piles behind the sofa. Set up for a Win-Win situation with praise and consistency, and be prepared for a few "oops"; don't worry, you'll get there! Obviously you did not bring your puppy home to keep him in a pen! Your puppy needs to do life with you! Take your puppy with you, share life with, play with and socialize your puppy! We recommend keeping your puppy home and just with your immediate family members for the first days after bringing your puppy home, so your puppy can begin to bond with you. Talk to your puppy, look at him in his cute little puppy eyes and have a conversation. This breed is born for this! They love to engage and will become your devoted follower for the rest of their life when they know they can count on you! After a few days have passed invite your friends over to visit and begin taking your puppy with you places; keeping in mind his eating, potting, playing and snoozing schedule. They have a very limited window of time to learn social skills, to gain confidence around all sorts of people, animals, sites, sounds activities etc. This window is often referred to as a "fear period", we like to call it an "imprinting period". This period usually lasts from 8 weeks old to 12 weeks old, but can be much shorter. During this time you may notice your puppy suddenly acting fearful towards something that he was fine with the day before, do not worry, just ignore it and move on. If your puppy was a wild dog he would be learning what is safe and what is not in order to survive. Wild dogs need to avoid people, run away from cars, loud noises, bicycles, skateboards, etc. Our domestic puppies need to learn that these things are good and a part of a happy life. So let puppy experience them - in a manner that is easy, non-confrontational and in a setting that he can obviously handle. If puppy is upset back away from the situation but keep it in the background at a further distance. DO NOT reinforce fear behavior by sheltering puppy or sympathizing "ohhh.Puppies will mimic behavior so if you are happy and okay, puppy generally will be as well, within reason. True, your puppy is susceptible to catching diseases until he is fully immunized - two weeks after his last vaccination until about weeks old so be smart about where you take him and who he touches noses with! Do not go to dog parks, do not let him walk thru pet supply stores, do not stop at dog rest stops when traveling. But still get him out and about! Try to meet " people in days", take along organic dehydrated beef liver puppy supply list and have strangers offer your puppy a piece when he engages with them : BEAUTIFUL. One big difference between humans and dogs is that dogs have to sleep in shorter bursts rather than one long stretch as humans tend to. This is also why Labradoodles are more likely to take a lot of shorter power naps instead of one long period of sleep that is usually associated with humans. The reason for this is perhaps due to their ancestral nature as predators. Labradoodles are by nature hunting dogs. They descend from wolves as every dog breed does , which are hunting-based predators and they are mostly active at night when hunting is easier for them and the temperatures get cooler. Instead, they pant, and this is also why they are much better suited for short periods of intense activity followed by rest than long trips going hunting. When any living thing goes to sleep, there are multiple stages they go through, and the most important of those stages is called REM. So while dogs seem to require less REM sleep than humans, they still have to sleep more to get the required amount of the important deep rest they need. Your Labradoodle will most likely spend more time sleeping the more active and large it is. A very active dog could need from 18 to 20 hours of sleep. Despite the fact that dogs take more frequent naps, they will often sit down for long periods of time. I time, Labradoodles will generally grow bored by themselves and will want to spend time with you, not really caring if you are awake or not. They will often lie awake beside their owners, just to be able to spend some time with you. But sometimes you can suddenly hear the scuffing of paws on the floor as your Labradoodle decides to rush across the floor, enjoying itself and being noisy. What can you do about that? Create a Routine The best possible way to establish a sleeping routine for anyone, including dogs, is to have a set schedule you can follow. You are already the one who decides when your dog will get a bowl full of delicious food, so the only thing you have to do each day is making sure that you are feeding him at the same time every day. It would also be wise to control how fast your dog is eating his food. If you think he is eating way too fast, I would recommend that you look at buying something like the Outward Hound Puzzle Toy that will slow the mealtime process, which will allow your Labradoodle to properly digest their meal. Exercise This is also some to be very aware of and consistent with. Take your furry friend out on a walk, go play fetch or anything you can do that allows your buddy to work those strong legs of his. This is exceptionally important for Labradoodles. They are from nature highly energetic hunting dogs. Just create a program for them and ensure that the schedule also works for you. This fear may lead them to not being able to sleep at all. Something simple like a small hello in the morning can hopefully moderate this fear as they will find out that even if you are all going to sleep, your dog will still see you the following morning. Sleeping Problems Found in Labradoodles Unfortunately, Labradoodles can get sleeping disorders just like humans. Similar to not getting enough sleep in humans, a lack of sleep for dogs can lead to several health problems and can often result in inactivity or generally just feeling sad. The list of sleep disorders possible in a dog including Labradoodles includes narcolepsy, insomnia, sleep apnea, and REM behavior disorder. And sadly not all of these conditions are treatable. Narcolepsy can be very dangerous for Labradoodles, as it can result in not only a loss of control but also paralysis of certain body parts. The situations where this can be extra dangerous is that when the dog is near a body of water, their body can freeze up, which can lead to them falling in and drown. So if you have a narcoleptic Labradoodle, you will want to avoid water as much as possible. For insomnia, a likely improvement to their sleep may come from a therapeutic bed , which is a product my dog has used for many years, just as a preemptive measure. Sleep apnea is most commonly seen in breeds like the English bulldog and Pugs and the reason is typical that the dog is overweight. The solution is usually a simple weight loss diet of some kind for your pet. REM behavior disorder is when your dog is being way too active while sleeping. This can end up with your Labradoodle suddenly running into walls at night or scratching at things while sleeping. This will often require a safe bed of some kind, to help prevent any harm that might happen to your dog while it is sleeping. Related Questions Why do dogs dream with their eyes open? Dogs developed the habit of having their eyes open just a bit when they are sleeping and dreaming to prevent any harm from happening to them. They keep their eyes open to help them be able to quickly react if anything dangerous is about to happen. Can Labradoodles sleepwalk? They could easily end up in a very dangerous situation if they have a habit of sleepwalking. These links are affiliate links, so if you do end up using the links, I will earn a commission. Dog Food: Every dog needs to eat correctly, and finding the best food for your dog can be challenging, as the market is absolutely flooded with products. Everyone in the family will be overjoyed to have your new addition in the household. Your puppy will appreciate all the love and care you give them, but will understandably be nervous. Bringing home a new puppy is a lot like bringing home a new baby. Puppies thrive off of their connection with humans or other dogs. Picking the right place for your puppy to sleep will determine how quickly they transition to their new life. Your small children may want the puppy to sleep in their room. This may not be the best place for your puppy to start. Your puppy might need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, so being with an adult who will let them out as needed is best. Your puppy can transition to sleeping with your children once they have adjusted to their new schedule! Getting Ready for Bedtime We all have our own bedtime rituals and so should your puppy! It is a good idea to play with your puppy a few hours before bedtime so that they are naturally tired. So head out on a walk or toss around a toy for a little bit to wear your little ball of fluff out. Your new puppy from Archview will have already begun their familiarization with crate-training so their adjustment process should be pretty smooth overall. How you handle these potty breaks determine how quickly your puppy will go back to sleep. Make this trip strictly about one thing: potty time. The more attention you give your puppy in the middle of the night, the more likely they are to just wake you up seeking that attention. It is hard to ignore those sweet and sometimes loud puppy cries, but that is the best thing to do as they adjust. Some people will lock their puppy away in a separate room, but this will only frighten your puppy even more. Give them time to understand their new routine and they will eventually settle down and go back to bed. Just make sure the first thing you do in the morning is take them back out again to start their day on the right note! Daytime Routine When you first get your puppy, plan on taking it outside to the same spot every 2 hours during the day. Using the same spot will help them associate quicker where you want them to go. They will also need to go out after eating, a rambunctious play time inside, or when they wake up from a nap. Night Time When you first get your puppy, expect to get up with them if they wake up and cry in the middle of the night for the first few weeks. To make less potty trips at night, you can put water up a few hours before bedtime. Potty on command When they go potty, use the same word or phrase i. When they potty outside, give them lots of praise and a treat. If they start going potty in a particular spot inside, remove than option. Scolding or punishing your puppy after the fact will only confuse your puppy. How much do I need to watch them? Well, the key to success is watching them and being consistent in taking them out. Knowing your puppy this well is helpful so you can take them out immediately when you see those signs, before they have an accident inside. Also, if they eat and sleep in their crate, they will naturally not potty in there because dogs do not want to go to the bathroom where they eat and sleep. However, this does not mean you can leave them in there for the entire day. No matter how much a puppy does not want to go potty in their crate, their bladder control is not developed yet to be able to hold it as long as an adult dog. When your pup is young, when letting it out of the crate, always carry it to the door to go potty outside. Remember, stay patient and consistent. Some people are more than happy to let their dogs into their own bed. But, not everyone agrees that allowing your dog into your bed is a good idea. Your Labradoodle sleeping in bed with you can help you to sleep better. But, it can also introduce nasty germs into your sleeping area. But, of course, not everyone is a fan of letting their dog into their bed. Most dog owners consider dogs members of the family. Many even see their Labradoodles as their children! This is one of the reasons more and more people are scooting over in bed to make room for their pup. As natural pack animals, dogs enjoy sleeping with their family members, too. Co-sleeping can help your dog feel safe, and provide them with a sense of warmth and comfort. Labradoodles are family oriented dogs. They bond well with their family members and will love spending as much time with you as possible. This includes at bedtime, if you let them! Pros of a Labradoodle Sleeping in Bed with You Some of the benefits of letting a Labradoodle sleep in bed with you are related to the breed themselves. Others are more general. Sleeping with your Labradoodle is a great way to improve your bond. Studies suggest that sleeping with your dog can help you sleep better, and even aid sleeping disorders. In reality, no dog breed is hypoallergenic. But, Labradoodles with Poodle-like coats may shed less. Their tight curls will also catch any shedding hair and allergy-inducing dander. This makes Labradoodle dogs the ideal companion for co-sleeping, because you are less likely to wake up with an abundance of dog fur in your bed and on your bedding. Improving Your Bond As we mentioned earlier, Labradoodles are very social dogs. They love spending all of their time with their close family. So, your Labradoodle will love sleeping in bed with you. This is a great way to improve the bond between you. Labradoodles are also highly intelligent. So, as long as you keep your Labradoodle on a good exercise, mealtime, and sleep schedule, they will be able to flow with your bedtime routine seamlessly. Helping You Sleep Better Studies have shown that sleeping with your dog can actually aid sleep. Rose showed that sleeping with your dog may actually aid in specific sleeping disorders like PTSD, recurring nightmares, insomnia, and more. This is especially true for dogs who are trained service animals or support animals. Labradoodles were originally created to be a hypoallergenic service dog. So, you may find that you sleep more soundly and comfortably alongside your Labradoodle. As long as they are sleeping soundly too! Cons of a Labradoodle Sleeping in Bed With You Despite the benefits, there are also downsides to letting your dog in your bed with you. Primarily: Higher chance of germs or parasites in your bed. Your Labradoodle may keep you awake. They can take up a lot of room. Some Labradoodles will shed. Germs in the Bed Having your Labradoodle sleeping in bed with you may be comforting, but there are associated risks. This puts you at higher risk of potential illnesses, or at least of coming into contact with those germs. It may also mean you end up having to clean your sheets a lot more! You Can Combat This Issue There are a few ways to reduce your chances of dealing with potentially dangerous germs if you want to share your bed with your Labradoodle. But, of course, make sure you only use products that are specifically designed for dogs and that are safe to use daily. Stay away from alcohol-based products. Plus, some Labradoodles snore, bark, and move in their sleep. Sleeping with an active Labradoodle can be just as disruptive as sleeping next to a human that snores or talks in their sleep at night! No Time for Privacy If your Labradoodle is used to sleeping in your bed, you may have trouble getting them to sleep elsewhere on nights where you might not want a dog around. Or nights where you just want some privacy. And, trying to get them to sleep alone in their own bed on random nights could lead to some pretty vocal objections. Taking Up Space Labradoodles are large dogs. And, this means they can also be bed hogs. Some Labradoodles Shed A final point to bear in mind is that Labradoodles are mixed breed dogs. The risk of this coat type is higher when your Labradoodle puppy is a first generation mix one Lab parent and one Poodle parent. But, the risk is lower if you have a third or lower generation mix. Prevention is the best way to stop bad habits from forming. So, keep the door to your bedroom closed. Or, use a baby gate in your doorway. This may seem a little frustrating, but it will be the best way to stop your Labradoodle from using your bed. You can also make sure that you have somewhere safe and comfy for your Labradoodle to sleep instead. Like a bed in the kitchen, or a crate as their own little den. Tips of Staying Healthy With Your Labradoodle Sleeping in Bed Transmittable parasites and diseases are some of the biggest concerns for people when it comes to a Labradoodle sleeping in bed with their owners. But, as we mentioned above, there are ways around these issues. Wipe his feet clean after walks and backyard play time each day. Check your Labradoodle regularly for parasites like fleas and ticks. You might also want to invest in a special blanket for your dog. Labradoodles are intelligent dogs that take well to training. Implement a schedule first, so your Labradoodle understands what bedtime means. References and Resources. When you first get your new pup, you can expect them to sleep, a LOT. Puppies can sleep up to 20 hours a day which is pretty amazing when you think about it. Have you ever noticed how quickly a dog wakes and leaps into action? There is no desire to hit the snooze button in the doggy world. Although they sleep for up to 20 hours a day, much of this is light sleep and not a deep sleep. Their sleep pattern is called polyphasic which means scattered periods of sleep. Dogs sleep much lighter and in shorter bursts which can perhaps date back to their wolf ancestors where they were on alert all day and all night. Puppies may sleep for up to 20 hours a day until they are around 4 months old. After this time the amount of sleep they have will depend on many factors including routine, personality, how active they are, and how quiet their days are. The world is an exciting place and your dog will likely find more ways to keep themselves entertained chasing that pesky fly on the window for instance! They may still sleep for around 12 to 14 hours a day which can still seem a lot but remember a lot of this is light and scattered over the day. Dog sleeping arrangements — Where your dog prefers to sleep will be a contributing factor to how well and often they sleep. What their personality is like — Some dogs generally have more energy than others. Anxiety — Whether you have an anxious dog or a laid-back dog can affect their sleeping patterns. Daily Exercise — How much exercise and playtime your pooch gets will help to determine how much sleep they have. Age of your dog — Puppies and senior dogs tend to sleep a lot during the day whereas younger dogs will be more active. How big — The size of your dog will factor into their sleep requirements. You are what you eat — Diet can also affect sleeping patterns, a poor diet can lead to issues including sleep. Those thick balmy days may mean your pooch is too tired to do much. Labradoodles, like all dogs, can have a very flexible approach to sleeping. Some days they will seem more active than others and this is completely normal. After all, we are much the same, and some days we just feel more tired than others. Sleeping Issues in Dogs Like humans, dogs can also suffer from sleep problems and anything like this needs to be investigated further. Pain — It could be that your dog is feeling uncomfortable or in pain which is causing them to feel agitated. Anxiety in dogs can be worse at night and overnight, and sometimes they may not sleep much at all. This can lead to more daytime napping when they feel more relaxed again. Narcolepsy — This is a rare condition in dogs but it can happen. Dogs who suffer from this find their REM cycle disturbed and it can cause momentary muscle weakness and paralysis when awake. REM Behavior Disorder — This condition can cause dogs to move around while asleep, they can even walk into furniture or walls. However, the good news is that there are some practical steps you can take to create a good sleeping environment for your Labradoodle. Make sure your dog has its own safe, comfortable sleeping place that is there consistently. You may notice when you first bring your dog home where they are most comfortable and if practical, this may be a good place to put their bed. A crate with a blanket, bed, and a few toys can make a dog feel safe and secure and they will come to see this as their own sleeping space. Be sure your dog is getting the exercise they need. An under-exercised dog can become depressed and may therefore sleep for much of the day. A well-exercised dog means a happy and healthy dog who will have a great balance between rest and activity. On top of exercise ensure your dog is being fed good quality food and they are having the required amount for their weight. Creating a calm atmosphere at home can help your dog feel relaxed too, especially if they are nervous or anxious. Simply having the radio on low can help a dog feel more at ease and keeping noise levels down when possible. Every dog has a different environment, personality, and sleeping preferences. If other symptoms are accompanying the sleeping issues, then it may be something to explore further. We have learned that dogs have much fewer periods of deep sleep than we do so although they nap a lot, most of this is very light.

The thing that makes Goldendoodles so incredibly popular as pets — especially with families that have children — is their outgoing personalities and the fact that they have a real zest for life. Vibrant, social dogs, Goldies do tend to be high-energy and boisterous pups right through their lives, which many owners love about them. You need to be prepared for this before deciding to take one of these darling dogs on. Sure, when Goldendoodles are puppies, they may run you ragged with their cheeky, mischievous behavior. After all, all dogs struggle to control their excitement when they are young. Yet, also like other dogs, Goldendoodles, too, do mellow as they age into adults. As they move from the neonatal period to the transition period to the socialization period, they will not only learn vital motor skills and start to play, but they will also begin to develop relationships with the other dogs and people around them. See Also: Click the image This stage is crucial to how your pup continues to relate to other animals and people as they grow. A top-quality breeding facility will ensure their puppies get plenty of handling and exposure to new stimulation. They will also make sure that all time spent around people is very positive for your pup. These early experiences shape how your dog will continue interacting with people throughout their lives. When you finally bring your Goldie home, they will be slap bang in the middle of the first fear stage. This often lasts from 8 weeks up until 10 weeks. Although dogs are very sensitive to new experiences, especially negative ones, during this brief period, a lot of love, delicious treats, and avoiding activities that seem to spook your pet can help them successfully navigate it. The remaining 2 weeks of these vital first 3 months are the best time to get going with their early training. This is when you are going to lock in toilet training and teach your puppy how to behave around the house. Still, they will be well on their way with the basic and most important aspects of training — the actions that will set them up for life. Depending on their Doodle type Standard, Mini, Medium… , they could be anywhere from half to most of the way to their adult size. Yet you will need to remember that they are still very much a puppy in their thinking and how they respond to things. At this time, it will still be all too common for them to become so frantic and over-excited that their good manners and their training go right out the window. See Also: Click the image You may also start to see an increase in undesirable behaviors such as chewing as their teething really ramps up. Keep this in check by providing appropriate chew toys for them to chow down on. This can help save both your belongings and your poor fingers — ouch! Make sure also that during play, you are very consistent in what you are letting your hound get away with. Mouthing behaviors are only natural, but let your dog know when they go too far with loud pain noises. Withdraw from the play altogether when they push things too far. Remember that it is far easy to train proper behavior from the beginning than correct it later in life. Your dog may try to assert their dominance over you at this time. Like teens, adolescent dogs are all about finding their place in the world. This is when that early training is really going to come into play, as you will be able to redirect their negative behavior and reconfirm the boundaries that they are already more than well aware of. Remain vigilant, though, as part of the testing of what they can get away with involves beginning to think about escape. Make thorough use of toys and games throughout this period. See Also: Click the image Adulthood Just when it feels like you have hit the end of your tether for one bouncy pup all about the place, your Goldendoodle will enter adulthood somewhere around months and start to calm down. While some days it may still feel like your cute canine has ingested an entire pot of coffee or turned into a Mexican jumping bean, especially in the first few years of their adult lives, in actuality, they will have much more control of their own behavior now. They should hit their golden years somewhere between 8 and 12 years of age, depending on their size. With that infamous Goldendoodle vivacity, this is especially vital for these pups. A garden is great for bigger dogs as they can happily chase a Kong Toy or something similar about the place, effectively keeping themselves out of trouble. Alternately you could send the kids out with them, and they could all wear each other out, resulting in a lovely peaceful evening for you. If this is not an option, games of fetch in a well-secured dog park can do the trick just as well. A dog-walker can also help take some of the strain of exercising a particularly lively Dood. Mental Stimulation Boredom can be the absolute enemy of calm, especially when something noteworthy does happen, such as the arrival of a visitor or a trip around the block. If your pup is frequently left alone for long hours, you will find that they are extra-especially lively when they finally get their family back home with them and have something to do again and someone to do it with. Again, this is where canine toys can save you a lot of hassle. These days there is an excellent variety of them with some seriously cool features. The thing about Doodles is those Poodle smarts of theirs make them particularly susceptible to boredom. Puzzle toys offer intellectual challenges whereby your pup has to figure out how to get to a tasty treat, for example. This can easily keep them entertained for hours at a time. The result is a much calmer, happier dog who may not even notice when someone does ring the doorbell. See Also: Click the image Training Training and socialization are also both so, SO necessary for helping your Dood manage their own behavior. Socialization gets your pooch accustomed to meeting new people, being in unfamiliar places, and dealing with different dogs and other animals. Training puts specific commands at your fingertips which can be employed when your pup is getting a little too over the top. Positive reinforcement is a good strategy, but be sure you are only reinforcing the behaviors you want to see continued. If you make a fuss of your fur baby when they are running around or jumping up, if you act as delighted to see them as they are to see you, then you are telling them with your actions that this is the right thing to do. Make a real effort to only pay attention to your pooch only once they have calmed themselves down. New Activities If you have the time, then helping your dog learn new tricks and skills can go a long way to keeping them both physically and mentally happy. Canine sports were practically invented for these offspring of working dogs. They excel at so many of them and will thoroughly enjoy participating. These kinds of activities also serve to reinforce and extend their basic training giving you even more commands you can use for behavior control. Goldendoodles are also big fans of the great outdoors in all its forms. Goldies, being the descendants of two water-loving breeds, will also likely love the chance to swim and hang about in streams, lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Too much of certain kinds of foods could heighten energy to unmanageable levels. Also, take care with the amount that you are feeding your dog each day. Likewise, snacks can cause issues here. A surprising number of calories can be found in even the tiniest treats. If you are using these for training, you may consider switching them out for a clicker or praise-based methods. If your food-focused friend is clearly never going to go for that, a surprising alternative is frozen vegetable treats. These seem to go down very well with most Doodles, according to their owners. A commonly held belief with canines is that getting them fixed can help them to be calmer, and there is some truth in this. Your puppy will likely be every bit as rowdy, but your older dog will be less of a puppet to their hormones. Goldendoodle puppies, like all other puppies, are feisty, fast, playful little things. This lasts a lot longer than you might think, given how quickly they grow to their adult size. Somewhere between 12 and 18 months of age, your dog will mature, and this will be when you will see them having a little more control. Although, they will likely be every bit as energetic as they ever were. This can be tempered somewhat through exercise and play. Is it normal for a Goldendoodle to be energetic? High-energy levels are a feature of the Goldendoodle breed and a trait that they inherit from their intelligent, working-dog parents. In this respect, it is perfectly normal for your Goldie to enjoy plenty of walks and fun. How often should I walk my Goldendoodle puppy? Daily walks are a necessity for every dog, although some breeds require a longer time outdoors than others. Goldendoodles have quite high exercise needs compared to some of the smaller, more sedate Doods. Although this will need to be tailored to their age, a good rule of thumb is to exercise them for five minutes per month of their age — twice a day. So, with a 4-month puppy, two minute walks a day would be sufficient to keep them happy and healthy. Although energy levels of these fine canines vary depending on age, life stage, and individual differences, they do tend to be at the higher end of the spectrum. For this reason, they do best in high-energy family homes or with people willing to take them on plenty of long hikes and with both a garden and the time to play with them. If you think that you can offer a Goldie that kind of life, then you will, no doubt, end up adoring your newest family member almost but not quite as much as they will adore you. Conclusions for when Goldendoodles calm down At what age do Goldendoodles calm down? There is light at the end of the tunnel for a worried Goldendoodle owner. There are three stages of Goldendoodle energy level to pass through. Although you should always expect an energetic and upbeat dog — the overall excitement level will lessen as they age and progress. Expect a Goldendoodle to calm down around months of age. They will be past the puppy stage and into adulthood. Expect energetic and sometimes crazy behavior until they transition into the adult phase. This can be delayed an entire year or more for some dogs also. The craziest level of energy and frantic personality will occur in the first puppy stage of development. A Hyperactive Goldendoodle puppy Most Goldendoodles are going to be more than a little energetic. Expect exciting behavior, zoomies, plenty of licking , and boundless curiosity. It is this curiosity that can lead even the gentlest and kindest Goldendoodle into becoming a bit naughty. Even if your Goldendoodle is a standard or larger size — they will still mentally be a puppy for a long time. Even if they are so tall that they can stretch upright and be taller than you! Larger sized Goldendoodles sometimes give their owners slightly more hassle with the frenetic energy. This is not because larger sized Goldendoodle is more likely to be crazy — it is because their antics and power are more destructive because of their size. We just need to expect Goldendoodle puppies to be frantic, overexcited, and sometimes to get so wound up they forget their manners. Positive reinforcement and food as a motivating treat ned to be used form early on to start the glacially slow training process for a crazy Goldendoodle. So when should you expect change? The transition from Puppy into Adult Goldendoodle in terms of behavior will occur anywhere from months. It should be noted that transitioning into the adult phase is not a magic bean solution to a hyperactive Goldendoodle expect some of the behavior to continue! But now you are through the woods if you are consistent and the training is positive — you can expect less NEW destructive or hyper behaviors to occur. Can Goldendoodles swim? Do they like pools and beaches? Tips for dealing with a hyper Goldendoodle puppy Usually, during the puppy phase, most CRAZY Goldendoodle behavior can be attributed to a single cause. The primary issue is one of over excitement. Goldendoodles have a zeal for life and an outgoing personality to match. This is one of the reasons they are so popular as a dog for families with children. Reprimanding will often not achieve the desired result. At this early stage up to the 18 months , diversion AND prevention are typically a better approach to minimize over excitement. Use Nose work to Calm Down a Crazy Goldendoodle The inability to focus and lack of concentration are primary aspects of crazy Goldendoodle behavior. There are easy things you can do with your dog at home to engage their attention and promote calmness. Got an over excited puppy? Try out nose work! It is simple and fun to get started. You can DIY it at home! For more dog videos check out our Oodle Life YouTube channel Nose work scent training is a simple and easy pastime for Goldendoodles that wears them out mentally and physically — and can easily be performed indoors. A great way to distract your crazy Goldendoodle AND get them to concentrate is to start with some nose work or sniff training. As you can see in this video of a Labradoodle puppy beginning scent training, it can initially be a straightforward scenario. Primarily you play hide and seek with the desired food treat. Dried liver snacks, boiled chicken, even capsicum or grated cheese can be used as hides Reward each find with an extra set of treats Progressively make the hides more difficult as the days and weeks progress Examples include getting the dog to reach its nose into a box Place the hides in a plastic container or something that has noise Reduce the total number of hides but put our more places to search Although Goldendoodle rarely lack confidence, the gradual increase in difficulty will help boost self-assuredness The act of sniffing is both mentally and physically tiring for a Goldendoodle. So cute! When an older Goldendoodle Acts Crazy or Hyper Once a Goldendoodle transitions into the adult phase of its life, it often sees a reduction in the total intensity of the crazy or manic behavior. Do not expect it to completely disappear, though! Goldendoodles are brimming with energy and have a zeal for life that lasts for… life. If there are learned behaviors not redirected as a puppy — you can expect these to continue later. This is why problem chewing needs to be deal with early. Another common issue is that of excessive barking. Goldendoodles can have a booming bark. Loud even for the dog of their size! All size Goldendoodles from teacup right through the bigger standard Goldendoodles or sturdily built English Goldendoodles can have a loud and alarming bark. Barking is a natural behavior, and it is not reasonable to expect a Goldendoodle to never bark. Problem barking, however, is a behavioral issue that can be addressed. If left unchecked, it will annoy neighbors and just be a general nuisance! Our Goldendoodles may be smart — but sometimes we have to baby them and play tricks like warning the postman OR blocking out windows to stop excessive barking. These are soft non harming nips that do not hurt the owner or pierce the skin. If this transitions into biting OR continues after 12 months of age — you need to quickly implement at-home training or seek advice from a professional. Play biting should drop off significantly once the puppy teeth have been replaced. This occurs by around 8 months of age. Do not tolerate biting that causes harm at any age. If the biting habit persists and it not addressed — you will have a lifetime of troubles with the dog. The ramifications to yourself, your family, — and the issues taking the dog in public will further compound into making your crazy Goldendoodle act our even more. A beautiful black Goldendoodle puppy! The conventional wisdom for a Goldendoodle is that any hyper or crazy behavior should have plateaued by three years of age. Consider 2. If you are still experiencing crazy or boisterous behavior by 2. If it is upsetting the family dynamic, you may need to consider more intense obedience training or the help of an in-home dog trainer to overcome the issues. I asked two Goldendoodle owners with older dogs. They have commented in the past their thoughts on when Goldendoodles become entirely calm. She also barked at everything and would pine whenever we left her alone. We were so worried she was a bit of a handful in those times. Thank goodness the biting and chewing stopped after she lost her baby teeth at 6 months. The rest of the crazy only really reduced at around age 2. Marlie is still very active and cheerful, but we love her, and it is very manageable. We keep him extremely active and tire him out daily to reduce the craziness. He never has been hyper too much — but was naughty till around age 3. He tested us! We had to wait so long for him to mature. Luckily there are ingenious dog toys that will distract our Goldendoodles and reduce the amount of hyper crazy moments we have. Our Oodle Life recipe for a delicious Kong treat Kong-tail You can tire your dog out with a bunch of different toys, but nothing really beats the good old fashioned Kong. A puzzle toy that then gives treats later turns into a sweet-smelling for your Goldendoodle chew toy once the frozen goodies are gone. Find out how long you should expect your particular type of Goldendoodle to live here. In their old age — expect a degree of calmness from your dog that might be a touch of surprise. After all — this calm comes only once the Goldendoodle turns ten years of age. After a decade of exuberant excitement — it would be nice to have a serene and calm final run with your beloved dog. Pamper them! Conclusions for when Goldendoodles calm down A hyper or crazy acting Goldendoodle can be a severe problem to address. The solution is going to be a combination of time, training, and patience. Redirecting problem behaviors and positive reinforcement are key. Working through each problem e. Many puppy owners are shocked, surprised or downright freaked out about the way that their cute little puppy is behaving. Check out which stage your puppy is in, and it will help explain a lot like he isn't crazy! Behaviors can be accounted for with these stages, but a lot of these behaviors are also not acceptable and you must train and lead the way. The mother of your puppy will start the process by building the foundation. This responsibility will then be turned over to you. It can not be expressed enough times how important it is for you to train and lead your puppy so that he will be a happy well adjusted member of your family for life. Puppy Toddlers Period 3 - 8 Weeks "Mom teaches dog manners" During the Toddler period, the doodle puppies emerge on their own from the litter. They venture into the surrounding environment. Puppies removed too early tend to be nervous, tend to bark a lot, tend to bite simply because these lessons a mother and littermates usually provides were missed. Training problems and long-term behavior problems can often be attributed to a puppy removed from the litter much too soon. Beginning at 5 weeks of age, what is going on: Vocalization and tempered activities dog manners usually are learned at approximately 5 weeks of age. What the Puppy's mother will do: The mother will growl, snarl and snap to communicate. With a few very clear signals and repetitions, the young puppy will learn quickly. At that point a mothers glare or low growl is all that is needed to keep a young pup in line. Littermates also learn clear signals of communication to each other. Socialization Period 7 - 12 Weeks and First Fear Imprint Period Weeks "Lasting impact, rapid learning" Dogs that are denied socialization during this critical Socialization period often become unpredictable because they are fearful or aggressive. It is during this time, that your dog needs to have positive experiences. They need to be introduced to new things and begin the groundwork to a happy, well-adjusted dog. Seniority Classification Period Weeks "You're not the boss of me! He has been watching you and the family very closely. He is picking up on human behaviors and reactions. He is learning the pecking order of the pack. As he observes and learns, he will then attempt to figure out where exactly he stands in the pack order, and to also see if moving up in the pack will work. After all, he knows who the "weak links" are and will start at the bottom and try to move right up the pack. How could such a cute little pup be such a pistol? Flight Instinct Period 4 - 8 Months "Fly like an Eagle, into the wind" Your cute little puppy has been following you around for weeks now. He has been aware of where you are and would stay pretty close. During this period that same cute little puppy will decide that he is ready to go solo and take off running quicker than lightening. During this time, teaching the puppy that he must stay close by or come when called is critical. The failure to do this will result in a dog that will not be reliable to come or to stay close by as an adult and very well could lead the dog into a life or death situation. Yes this is redundant to the above, so it must be pretty important for us to say it twice. Adolescence Period 7 - 10 months "Welcome to the Teenage Years - Enjoy the Ride" This is one of the most difficult times for pet owners. They are so surprised when their puppy turns into "devil dog" or "cujo". This often is a time when many families start to worry that maybe they made a bad decision in getting a dog. Remember: you get what you put into it. You take the time right now to teach good habits, you will have the dog you always dreamed of for many years. This work will payoff. It will help. What's up with that? But then, BAM, he refuses to walk down some stairs, he is shaking in the car, or he jumps at the sound of the neighbor's music. This is normal, but you must help your dog figure out how to deal with his fears or concerns. The skills of learning how to "shake it off and keep going" will be valuable to him for the rest of his life. It will also reduce the chances that the things he fears will not be permanently imprinted for life. He will begin to fill out a bit and develop more muscle tone. But, mentally, the dog is still working out some last details of his life and what it means to him. He IS a member of a pack and now begins to find that his turf is worthy of monitoring and protecting. Sort of sounds nice to have your dog be protective, but don't fall for it. You do not want you dog to take over these responsibilities because in no time you too will be under the rule of the King Dog. Which can lead to aggressive behaviors, protective to the point of creating fear or actually harming someone or another animal as he protects. This is bad news, and often a reason a dog is taken out of the home or destroyed. So, don't allow your dog to be the King of the Castle, assign him the role of court jester - he will be happier and so will your family. By Kern Campbell Is there anything cuter than a Goldendoodle puppy? Not much. How long do Goldendoodles stay puppies? Puppies need different levels of nutrients than adult dogs. This is especially true for Standard Goldendoodles since large breed dogs are more prone to developing bone and joint issues if they grow too quickly or without the right nutrients. When in doubt, ask your vet. Just remember to transition your Goldendoodle from puppy food to adult food slowly to avoid an upset stomach. How Big Do Goldendoodles Get? Your Goldendoodle puppy may be cute and tiny now, but how big will they grow to be? That depends on how big their parents were. Standard Goldendoodles are usually pounds when fully grown. They will typically weigh between 35 and 50 pounds when fully grown. Toy Goldendoodles are usually a cross between a Mini Goldendoodle and a Toy Poodle and weigh less than 35 pounds. Ask the breeder how much each parent dog weighs to get an idea of what to expect. Lexie, A 5 year-old fully grown F2 Mini Goldendoodle. Do Goldendoodles Have Growth Spurts? Goldendoodle puppies do a ton of growing for the first 6 months to a year of their lives. All that growth can definitely happen in spurts. Growth spurts are more noticeable in Standard Goldendoodle because they have more growing to do than Mini or Toy Goldendoodles. One reason that puppies sleep so much hours per day! Stage 1: Birth to 3 Weeks Goldendoodle puppies are born blind, deaf, and toothless. Their entire existence is basically just eating, sleeping, and growing. Puppies open their eyes around 2 weeks old. Their ears open and teeth start growing around 3 weeks. At 3 weeks, your Goldendoodle puppy was finally aware of and interacting with the world. They were learning to crawl, bark, and play with their littermates. Stage 2: 3 to 7 Weeks During this period, your puppy was growing stronger and interacting with the world more. This stage is crucial for learning bite inhibition. When a puppy bites one of their littermates too hard, the other puppy will yelp and stop playing. By the end of stage 2, Goldendoodle puppies can eat puppy food , bark, run, wag their tail, and be left alone for a little while. Stage 3: 7 to 12 Weeks Stage 3 is a crucial stage for learning. Your puppy will learn more than you could expect. However, they will also start to develop fear at some point in this stage. Puppy classes, socialization, and training basic commands are all crucial during this stage. Stage 4: 12 to 16 Weeks During this stage, Goldendoodle puppies start teething and pushing boundaries. Just remember to be gentle — harsh words or punishments can cause your puppy to fear you. Stage 5: 16 to 40 Weeks During this stage, your Goldendoodle puppy will continue to grow and may test your limits. This is a critical time for training and socialization. This may also be a good time to get your Goldendoodle puppy spayed or neutered — talk to your vet about their recommendation. Stage 6: 40 Weeks to 1 Year Smaller Goldendoodle puppies will stop growing in this period. Standard Goldendoodles may stop growing in height but will still fill out for a few more months. This stage is like the teenage years — your Goldendoodle will have the body of an adult with the attitude and energy of a puppy. During this stage, your Goldendoodle may try to assert dominance over you and the rest of your family. You must gently remind them that you are the boss while using plenty of positive reinforcement. Shouting, hitting, or otherwise punishing your Goldendoodle may cause fear aggression. Stage 7: 1 Year and Up Your Goldendoodle should reach full developmental and sexual maturity between 1 and 2 years of age. Once your Goldendoodle is fully grown, you can switch them to adult food and increase the intensity of their exercise with less risk of damaging growing bones and joints. Goldendoodle puppies have LOTS of energy. So, what can you do? As a puppy, the best way to help your Goldendoodle burn energy is to play with them. This has the added bonus of being great bonding for you and your puppy. Puzzle toys are a great way to help your puppy burn energy while using their mind. Lexie, our Goldendoodle using her dog treat puzzle toy! How Long Do Goldendoodles Live? On average, Goldendoodles live around years. As your Goldendoodle reaches their senior years, you will want to switch them from adult dog food to senior dog food. When Do Goldendoodles Calm Down? These cute pups are known for their energy and excitable nature, this is a perfect addition to your family, but you need to know how to manage the excitable moods. Like most breeds of puppies, as they age, they will become calmer. Most Goldendoodles will start to calm around months of age. People can sometimes feel confused as puppy teeth are lost at months, but you can still expect excitable behavior for months after this. When doodles are less than a year old, they generally have surplus energy, leading to intense periods of play and longer naps. So, if your doodle is larger, their puppy behavior can be harder to deal with as they have more strength; this can be difficult for an owner. Three Stages Of Aging There is a general three-stage experience that most Goldendoodles progress through. This will occur in most Goldendoodles but can vary. Do note that if your Goldendoodle is quiet and tired, this could signal something is wrong; always consult a professional opinion if this is the case. Puppy stage expect constantly high energy Adult stage still high energy, but gradually lessening Senior stage more restful These dogs tend to spend most of their lives in the second adult phase, but the most energetic stage is the first one. If you are looking for what size crate to get for your goldendoodle, click HERE Tips And Tricks Even though crazy energy is expected from your pup, you may want to find some resources or games that can help manage this behavior. Over excitement is expected from Goldendoodles, so these tips will not get rid of it. These are great ways to stop the energy from becoming undesirable behavior, though. In the early stage puppyhood , diversion and prevention are the best ways to minimize overexcitement. Most dog breeds need a healthy walk or play daily to tire themselves out; in this case, Goldendoodles have so much energy that this is one of the most important aspects of caring for one. If your doodle is overactive, it can help to take an hour of walk time daily to burn some of that energy. However, you may see an energy spike from just one missed session. A bonus tip for a good walk is to go somewhere where they can run around off-leash; this is great for an energy-filled doodle. Getting your dog active is the first step to take if you want to manage their behavior. Toys Can Be Helpful Playing fetch with sticks is a classic game and can help with overactive doodles, but consider investing in some specialized toys. If doodles are bored, they can become excited when something unusual happens, resulting in a crazy episode. Mental stimulation through toys can result in fewer overreactions and seemingly calmer behavior. Even a simple chew toy can help relieve stress, helping to reduce barking and overstressed out behaviors. Indoor dog games and toys are great, allowing doodles to play without the hassle of scheduling outside time. Good toys are rubber chew toys, tennis balls, stuffed animals, flavored toys, ropes, treat dispensers, puzzles, and squeaky toys. Note that squeaky toys are a favorite — so if you buy one, you will be putting up with additional noise! Scent Training Scent training or nose work is a simple pastime for Goldendoodles and can wear them out mentally and physically. This is also a great indoor activity. Inability to focus and lack of concentration are standard crazy doodle behavior. Scent training can be done at home to engage their attention and promote calmness. Good hides for Goldendoodles are boiled chicken, dried liver snacks, or even grated cheese; see what your dog reacts best with. Once your dog has found the hide, reward them with an extra set of treats. As you play, progressively make each hide more challenging to engage them. This could be done by placing hides in a plastic container that makes an interesting noise, getting your dog to reach into boxes with their nose, or reducing the number of hides but putting out extra boxes to search through. The increase in difficulty will help boost self-assuredness; while doodles often have self-confidence, this is still an excellent exercise for them. Sniffing is mentally and physically tiring for a Goldendoodle, which can help use up their crazy energy. However, it can help assess how you and your family react to their bouts of energy. This can reinforce the behavior, and the cycle repeats. Some even suggest practicing bringing the energy level down during playtimes. Try playing for a couple of minutes and then being calm for one. This shows your doodle the difference between play and calm and can help them get used to both. We can all be so busy with work and our lives, so scheduling in walkies can be difficult. Dog walkers are easy to find these days; thanks to the internet, try some helpful dog-walking apps, such as Rover, to connect with trusted walkers. This can take some of the pressure off of you and can keep your doodle active. A bonus to getting some help with walking is that if your doodle is extra active, you also have extra energy to play with them if someone has helped you walk them! Remember To Be Calm Sometimes if we are stressed, dogs can sense this and become anxious too. This can then lead to over-excitement, and undesirable behavior, which in turn stresses us again, and the cycle keeps escalating. Calm yourself and then calm your dog; practice just relaxing sitting around your dog. This is a great way to teach them patience and to help you not react to their energy. When your doodle sits calmly, remember to praise them for being good. Practicing a sit command is always a good way to train your dog; it helps create patience and be easy going about things that excite them. Overactive Behavior When A Goldendoodle Is Older Once the puppy stage is over, a reduction in energy levels and manic behavior is expected. Goldendoodles are fun and excitable for life! Excessive Barking Sometimes learned behaviors from puppyhood will continue later on in their lives, for example, problem chewing or excessive barking. This needs to be dealt with earlier to nip them in the bud. There are strategies and training to curb this problem, and it can be linked to learned puppy behaviors. Strategies include playing tricks and babying the doodle; you may also have to block out windows to stop excessive barking. If this action becomes painful, biting, or continues after 12 months of age, it can be time to seek advice from a professional or start at-home training. Play biting should stop significantly when the puppy teeth have been replaced; this should be at approx 8 months of age. However, the general rule of thumb is that by 3 years of age, they should not be hyper or crazy anymore. The key to addressing crazy doodles is to redirect the problem behaviors and to use positive reinforcement. Tackle each problem e. Key activities to help Goldendoodles are: Exercise daily; make sure to tire them out. These are the typical week-by-week Goldendoodles stages that you will go through with a new Goldendoodle puppy and what signs to look for that they are not developing correctly. Predicting average weights in Goldendoodles is challenging. The parent breeds are the strongest predictor of size, but hybrids can be unpredictable. Standard poodles and Golden Retrievers are both large dog breeds. However, a toy poodle or mini poodles can be bred to larger breeds like Golden Retrievers to produce a much smaller dog, like a toy Goldendoodle or even teacup Goldendoodles. Dogs with long lines registered with the Goldendoodle Association may have more predictable traits, but not as much as an AKC purebred dog. These puppies are born blind, deaf, and without teeth. These first weeks are a very critical time in their development. Your puppy will start to open their eyes at about 2 weeks of age. By the time that they are 3 weeks, their ears will be open, and you will start to notice that their teeth are pushing through their gums. At the end of this first stage, your Goldendoodle puppy will be aware of their surroundings. They will start to bark, crawl, and interact with the other puppies in their litter. At the end of this first puppy stage, they are aware of everything that is around them and are trying to crawl, bark, and interact with their littermates. During this time, they will continue to grow in size rapidly. Most importantly, they start to get more socially active with their mom, littermates, and the people in their lives. Your puppy will start to learn many new things during this stage of puppy development. Their mother will begin to teach them a few basic manners and start the weaning process. They will learn how to play with other puppies and what other puppies will tolerate. This is when they will learn how strong of a bite they have and what is okay for playing. They will usually establish a pecking order within the litter of puppies. This is the main reason why most breeders do not recommend taking the puppies from their litter and mother until they are about 7 to 8 weeks old. By 6 to 7 weeks of age, your Goldendoodle puppy will be able to be left alone for a short period of time. They will also be doing normal puppy behaviors such as eating puppy food , walking, running, and wagging their tail. This is also the time that your Goldendoodle puppy will need their first set of vaccines and dewormed. Most breeders will take their puppies to the vet for these vaccines. This way, they know that their puppies have received the vaccines that they need to get started off on the right track. Stage 3: 7 weeks to 12 Weeks After 7 weeks of age, your puppy is old enough to leave their mother and other littermates and go to their new home. This will probably be around the age when your first get your Goldendoodle. At first, try to keep everything just like the breeder had been. This helps keep your puppy on a normal routine while they are adjusting to their new house. Once your puppy has been at your house for a few days, you can slowly switch things if you want. You may already have a diet you want your puppy to eat. Also, make sure that your dog is eating large-breed puppy food. This will make sure that your Goldendoodle puppy is receiving the best nutrition needed for their fast-growing body. If you do plan on switching diets, make sure that you do this slowly; quickly changing diets can cause GI problems in your new puppy. At this age, your puppy will be ready to start learning everything and experiencing everything you are ready to teach them. They learn very fast at this age, so it is important to make sure that you are teaching them correctly. Your puppy can learn basic commands and manners by going to puppy classes. This will also give them socialization with other puppies and people during this stage. Having many different social encounters will help them become a very well-mannered dog. During this time, your Goldendoodle puppy may show signs of fear. This is a normal experience for a puppy to go through. They may be afraid of certain people, places, or things that they have never been afraid of. During this time, it is important to continue to socialize your Goldendoodle puppy and show them that these things are not as scary as they first thought they were. Make sure not to expose them to a lot of simulations at once, as these can cause them to become more afraid. Stage 4: 3 months to 4 months This is the stage of development when your Goldendoodle puppy will start to become independent. They may even start to challenge you or even ignore you. This is very similar to the terrible twos in people. Your Goldendoodle puppy will also start teething around this time. They will have very painful gums, which will cause them to want to bite and chew on anything possible. Make sure that you are providing your puppy with plenty of approved chewing toys in order to keep your shoes and furniture from becoming the next chew object. During this stage, you may find that you are telling your puppy no a lot. All this training will eventually pay off, and your puppy will be very well-mannered and do what you tell them to. Most of the time, your Goldendoodle puppy just wants to please you. All you must do is give them a little patience and love, and they will quickly learn what is expected of them. By starting obedience classes during this time, you will help your puppy become a friendly and well-behaved adult Goldendoodle. Stage 5: 4 months to 10 months During this time, your Goldendoodle puppy will continue to grow and develop very quickly. It is very important to continue teaching and training your Goldendoodle puppy. They will learn how to adapt to different social situations and what behavior is approved and what is not approved during this time. They will also continue to challenge you, so be prepared to stick to your training and not back off. During this time, your Goldendoodle may act a little bratty. There are going through their teenage years during this time. Also, during this time, do not let your dog play-bite with you, as this can teach them to be aggressive and encourage other dominant behaviors Around 6 months of age, it is advised to spay or neuter your Goldendoodle puppy. These procedures will help your puppy stay healthy and happy as well as prevent unwanted litters that end up in the shelter. Stage 6: 10 months to 1 Year During this stage, small Goldendoodles will reach their full size. They will usually reach maturity around 8 to 12 months of age. Larger Goldendoodles will continue to grow during this time and may not fully develop until they are 18 months to 2 years old. Your Goldendoodle puppy may now look like an adult dog; they usually are still developing mentally. They will have a ton of energy and usually not a lot of common sense. You will still need to monitor your Goldendoodle for any unwanted behavior and quickly correct any problems that you notice starting. Even though they are no longer a puppy, they will still need to continue training and learning commands. At this stage, your Goldendoodle will need lots of attention and exercise to keep them for getting into trouble. Always use a very firm voice and positive reinforcement when training and correcting unwanted behavior. It is best to have a loving and patient but firm voice when training your Goldendoodle Stage 7: 1 year and Older Between 1 and 2 years of age, your Goldendoodle will be fully developed and sexually mature. Your puppy will finally stop growing but may fill out in size just a little. At this point, you can now start exercising more with your Goldendoodle. They love to go for a jog, do agility training, or go for a long hike. Since their bones are now fully developed, there is less likely that they are going to have joint or stress injuries. This is also the best time to switch your puppy from puppy food to adult food. It is always best to stay with the same brand of puppy food that you fed to help decrease any GI signs from switching food. When switching food, it is recommended to switch food slowly. Also, make sure that the diet that you are feeding your Goldendoodle puppy is a high-quality diet. When will my Goldendoodle puppy need to be vaccinated? This is a common schedule most veterinarians follow when vaccinating puppies. This is usually done by the breeder before you get your Goldendoodle puppy. Most of these worms are microscopic, but some you can see in their stool. If you see worms, make sure to let your vet know. Your vet can give your Goldendoodle puppy medication to get rid of these nasty worms. Not only will your pet need vaccines, but they will also need heartworm, flea, and tick prevention. All of these parasites can cause health problems in your Goldendoodle, some of which can be fatal. If you notice something is not right in your Goldendoodle puppy, it is best to take them to the vet. Some very young Goldendoodle puppies can have problems regulating their blood sugar. If you notice that your Goldendoodle puppy has diarrhea, this can be from the stress of going to a new house, parasites, or even parvo. Any problems noticed in your puppy could be very serious, your vet can examine your pet and make sure that there is nothing that is wrong with your puppy. It would be better to be safe than sorry if your pet has something very serious going on. Both parvo and parasites can easily be prevented by sticking to the vaccine schedule and making sure that your puppy is properly dewormed. How big will my Goldendoodle puppy be? It can be hard to tell as puppies which one will be the biggest or which one will be the smallest. Usually, from the time that they are born until the day that you pick up your new puppy, all the puppies in the litter will change in size. At 8 weeks old, the smallest in the litter will usually be the smallest when they are all fully grown. The older your puppy gets, the easier it will be to determine if your puppy will be bigger or smaller. The exact adult weight can be a guess, but you can expect a miniature Goldendoodle to weigh about 4 to 9 pounds at 8 weeks old and a standard Goldendoodle to weigh over 9 pounds at 8 weeks old, and a medium-size Goldendoodle to fall between the 8 to pound range. Most dogs do most of their growing in the first 6 months of life. Smaller and miniature Goldendoodles will be half-grown at 4 months of age, with larger Goldendoodles taking a few months longer to reach this half-grown point. The larger the dog, the longer it will take them to reach adult size. When will my Goldendoodle Puppy stop growing? It may seem as if your Goldendoodle is getting bigger each day. Most Goldendoodle will be done growing by 1 to 2 years of age. They will usually reach their maximum height by 1 year of age and just fill out a little bit in the next year. Miniature Goldendoodle will be done growing by 7 to 10 months. The smaller the dog, the quicker they reach their adult body weight. Standard Goldendoodle should reach their full size by 2 years of age. After your Goldendoodle reaches 1 year of age, you need to monitor what you are feeding them. Lexie, 5-year-old fully grown F2 Mini Goldendoodle. Adult Stage Since your puppy is now over a year old, they are not growing, but there are some things that you need to consider as they start to get older. Goldendoodles that have just matured are usually very active. As your Goldendoodle gets older, they will start to slow down and sleep a little more. There are diseases that you need to look out for as your Goldendoodle gets older. If you notice any of these signs in your Goldendoodle, you need to see a veterinarian. We start Puppy Culture when the pups are only three days old - holding them in different positions and offering other tactile stimulation such as tickling toes. During this time one of the most important developments is the introduction to people and other dogs. Beginning at five weeks, puppies begin enjoying playtime and become aware of their surroundings and positive interaction with people will play a large part in how they continue to relate with humans. Establishing positive experiences and relationships with humans will help their continued development in the future. In the meantime, the eight weeks spent with their littermates are crucial for developing bonding, playing skills and other dog socialization cues. As previously mentioned, at JLDD we utilize the Puppy Culture development program during the first 8 weeks which includes among other things: LOTS of exposure to new stimulation every day, animal sounds on YouTube, introduction to other dogs, introduction to water pool day , individual time away from littermates, obstacle courses, introduction to household noises and even people wearing alternate clothing items sunglasses, hats, dangly earrings, etc. Not to worry…this short period can be helped by positive, encouraging training and your puppy will grow out of it! If a new experience such as using a blow dryer after a bath seems particularly frightening to your pup, introduce it again more gradually and reward with treats! They still need frequent naps and very frequent potty breaks potty training begins during the latter stages of our puppy culture program. Overall, they are quite manageable as they are still so snuggly and sleepy. Beginning structured training at this juncture is crucial - a stable schedule and consistent boundaries are helpful for the pup navigating the fear period and setting the framework for future obedience training. It is also when we start to hear from a lot of owners complaining about biting. Remember that this is developmentally normal and does not mean your pup is aggressive. Dogs are very wired to use their mouth—chewing and play-biting are ingrained in their DNA, especially at this age when a pup is losing his baby teeth and growing new permanent teeth. We have three words of encouragement here: patience, patience, patience! This phase will pass in a couple months! Sound familiar, parents? This behavior is actually very similar to a crawling human baby putting everything in their mouth. The good news is that just like baby humans, they will grow out of it. In the meantime, do your best to discourage it by disengaging and redirecting. Then you can re-engage and redirect with a toy. In other words, be all kinds of excited when she is chewing on a toy, but immediately end play and be a total stick in the mud when she bites you. Some pups enter a secondary fear period at this age—again, consistent positive socialization experiences will help him navigate this period and come out more confident than before. For parents of teenagers, this might feel familiar! In conclusion, remember that doodles are a fairly active breed so the puppy phase is not for the faint of heart. We recommend consistent discipline and exercise mental and physical stimulation will definitely keep your pup more settled in the house. Predicting the mature size of a puppy is by no means an exact science, especially with a hybrid breed like the goldendoodle. How big will my goldendoodle puppy be? From birth until the gotchya day, puppies have fluctuated back and forth in terms of who weighs the most. Even though adult weight is a bit of a guess for a young puppy, expect mini goldendoodles to weigh 4lbs-9lbs at 8 weeks of age. A medium puppy and standard puppy may both weigh 9lbs at 8 weeks old, but the standard puppy with gain weight at a quicker rate than the medium. Like most dog breeds, goldendoodles generally do the majority of their growing in the first six months of life. In fact, many mini goldendoodle puppies reach half of their adult weight by four months. Standard goldendoodles may take a month or so longer to reach that halfway mark. The larger the dog, the longer growing takes. For mini goldendoodles, expect the weight to start leveling off between months of age. Standard goldendoodles, like other large dog breeds, will grow for a longer period of time. While this rule may work for many standards, it is not accurate with smaller-sized goldendoodles who finish growing at a younger age. When will my goldendoodle stop growing? Dogs can finish growing anywhere between years of age, but generally reach their maximum height by a year of age and spend the remaining months filling out. This means your dog might hit a growth spurt right after her first birthday — she might not get any taller but she could thicken up. Golden retrievers grow at a slower rate in terms of height than standard poodles, but fill out more quickly. Golden retrievers tend to finish growing and filling out between months while standard poodles can take up to 2 years to accomplish the same. Established breeds generally reproduce naturally, whereas first-generation mini goldendoodles require artificial insemination. Subsequent generations of hybrid breeds i. F1b, F2b, etc. F1b goldendoodles can potentially have a slightly more predictable size range if the parents are similar sizes. Our 19lb F1 goldendoodle and 24lb poodle produce F1b mini goldendoodle puppies ranging in weight from lbs as adults.
