puppy love labradoodles calgary
She weighs about pounds and is still a puppy at heart. She is very much a 'social' dog and loves people and other dogs. She is still a great pet and is 'Queen' of our house! It is a cross between the English Bulldog and the Shar-Pei. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. She has spent the day protecting our house, chasing squirrels and lizards, and barking at passing dogs. Now she has eaten her belly full and retired for a nap! She plays hard and sleeps hard. It's not unusual for her to wake us up during the night snoring. What a face! She is a very friendly dog and loves people, dogs and even cats. She never meets a stranger and can be very entertaining. She drinks from a bird bath and loves to hang over the tub and watch it fill up with water. She was very easy to housebreak, but prefers the outside. She loves to go on walks. She has a very muscular body and a soft coat. Overall, she is a great pet and this seems to be a good combination of breeds. She has tons of wrinkles and a nice, short coat. She is one of the pups from my current litter. Yazmin the Bull-Pei puppy at 7 weeks old walking around in the grass. She is 8 weeks old in these pictures. Her mother was a purebred English Bulldog and father a purebred Shar Pei. Her coat is all black. Inside her mouth is a tint of blackish blue on her top pallet and some black spots under her tongue. I wanted an English Bulldog and my husband wanted a Shar Pei so we met in the middle hoping that she will not have any of the major health problems from either breed. Although when we go to welcome another new family member into our home I believe we will go with a breeder who is looking to better the breed itself and stick with purebred. After all the back and forth I've read on the internet of people bashing each other over the mix of the two breeds. Of course pure dedication and proper training with time will tell. We believe in giving her the best chance at life and in doing so she is on high quality food and has a vet just a few blocks down the road. I believe if its a mixed breed or a purebred you should always give them the best chance at life. Although if everyone thought that way there would be no dogs in shelters either. Also be careful what you are getting yourself into with the mix of these two breeds, you may end up with an alpha and one very stubborn little pup. With proper training and hopefully she will find her place in our home and enjoy her life. I have been watching a lot of Cesar Millan and I am using a lot of his techniques to help with training. We brought our babygirl home when she was 8 weeks old. She is amazing around children of all ages and loves playing with dogs of all sizes. Cats on the other hand not so much she cries for them and is very interested but they don't like how she snorts all over them lol. One thing is for sure, when ever I get up in the middle of the night you can be sure to find her in my spot once I return!!! She is always trying to steal my spot at night!!! They are solid build, with thick necks, muscular and triangular in shape and are energetic engaging loyal companions. They have lots of wrinkles and loose skin but not all the health issues of a purebred English Bulldog. They are stout, solid fun loving loyal pets. I love their wrinkles! So, get this dog if your ultimate canine is a chill companion who appears quite distinguished. However, it is vital to do your homework about this pup before you take it home. You need to provide proper care and provide everything it needs. They are loyal and loving, and easy to train. Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. More social dogs have a tendency to run up to strangers for pets and scratches, while less social dogs shy away and are more cautious, even potentially aggressive. If you want a dog but you are not so keen on exercise, then the Bull Pei may be for you as they do not require too much exercise. The only thing is that they are unpredictable as you never know which characteristic will be dominant. Generally, Bull Pei dogs are somewhat peaceful and not overly excitable. They can be playful and friendly like their Bulldog ancestors or tough, assured, and independent-minded like the Shar-Pei. These dogs are the happiest and content when they are around their family, so much so that they are never concerned about making friends outside the home. Bull Pei dogs are also reasonably easy to train except for some bit of stubbornness, as well as protective and highly adaptable thanks to their Shar-Pei strain. Are These Dogs Good for Families? A Bull Pei requires early socialization with owners, kids, strangers, and other pets to prevent aggressive tendencies and anxiety. An unsocialized Bull Pei is more likely to lash out towards strangers. It can also be a good companion and playmate for kids as long as you socialize them. The Bull Pei will be loving, affectionate, playful, protective, and quick to act to keep the children safe. However, their Chinese Shar-Pei parents have a dogfighting history, so your pup can instinctively challenge other dogs. Ensure you stick to a regular feeding schedule and not leave its food out throughout the day. A Bull Pei is a heavy eater and requires 2 to 3 cups of dry dog food daily. Therefore, it would be best to split the food into two to three meals a day instead of one main meal. Offer your dog sufficient proteins and limit the treats. So your dog will appreciate a short exercise session every day if you want. Plus, this dog also has no issues staying alone for long. Plus, it is bright and works hard where there are rewards and praises. However, these dogs are somewhat independent-minded, a trait that can make them stubborn. You can prevent future training struggles by socializing and training your pup early. Be just be consistent and patient, and avoid scolding and punishments. As a result, they only need moderate maintenance to continue looking good and healthy. You may need to vacuum regularly, though, as these breeds shed moderately throughout the year and increase during the shedding season. Also, ensure that you give them monthly baths using dog shampoo and dry well, especially at wrinkly places. Be careful to ensure that no moisture or grime gets trapped in the wrinkles and folds on the skin, as it may irritate their skin and cause a foul odor. Also, clip long nails or ask a vet or groomer to help. But these dogs may inherit some conditions from either side of their heritage. Here are the most common health issues you may run into with your Bull Pei: Hypothyroidism This condition occurs when the thyroid glands fail to produce thyroxine hormones responsible for efficient cellular metabolism. As a result, you may notice signs like lethargy, temperature fluctuations, weight gain, low appetite, and fur loss. Demodectic Mange Demodectic or red mange is an inflammatory condition caused by the microscopic parasites known as Demodex mites. Reverse sneezing occurs in dogs with brachycephalic skulls, where the back of the head appears flattened. Other conditions that Bull Pei dog breeds experience include eye issues, patellar luxation , hip dysplasia, heat sensitivity, cancer, ear infections, and tartar buildup on the teeth. Life Span Did You Know? The Shar-Pei is an ancient dog breed that originated in China and dates back to the Han Dynasty over 2, years ago. Unlike the Pug, they were not known as a noble companion. In particular, they were primarily used by Chinese farmers as all-around farm dogs. These wrinkly, unique dogs were prized for their intelligence, rugged versatility, and fierce loyalty. Shar-Pei could often be found working simultaneously as herders and protectors on the farm, as hunting dogs, and as family companions. Because dog ownership was frowned upon under this regime, many dogs were systematically slaughtered. And so, the breed was able to survive and then thrive. Although the first documented appearance of the Shar-Pei in the United States occurred in the mids, they did not start to gain popularity until .This was the year that Matgo Law, a breeder in Hong Kong, appealed to breeders and dog fans in the United States to help save the Shar-Pei from extinction. Dog lovers in the U. From there, the Shar-Pei truly made it to the United States and the population began to increase. The Chinese Shar-Pei is a dog that is devoted and fiercely loyal to their families. They may have an independent nature, but they do bond closely with their families and are affectionate with them. They tend to have a calm and gentle demeanor at home and also tend to do well with older children. Due to their guardian instincts, they can be wary and standoffish with strangers. Socialization and training early and often are important for any dog breed. But, as a breed with a protective instinct, they are particularly important for the Shar-Pei. A poorly socialized or poorly trained Shar-Pei can become territorial and their natural suspicion towards strangers can turn into aggression if they perceive them as a threat. The Shar-Pei is a highly adaptable dog breed. They thrive in large homes with fenced-in yards where they can patrol, play, and run. But, they can also adapt well to smaller homes and apartments as long as they get the mental stimulation, affection, and exercise they need to be happy and healthy. Chinese Shar-Pei do well in moderate climates. However, as a short-snouted dog, they do not handle heat well. They also may need to bundle up when the temperatures drop to stay warm. They do bond closely with their families and prefer to be near them. Plus, they can get bored easily and a bored dog can easily become a destructive dog. Every dog breed has some potential health concerns to keep in mind, even if they tend to be relatively healthy. Hip and elbow dysplasia, cardiovascular issues, thyroid conditions, skin issues, and gastrointestinal disorders have all been found in the breed. Reputable breeders will screen their breeding dogs to avoid passing on issues to puppies as much as possible. You can also ask about any relevant health clearances or test results to further allay any concerns you may have. As a larger, broad-chested dog breed, the Shar-Pei is also at a higher risk of bloat, which can become very serious, very quickly if gastric torsion occurs. Although the Shar-Pei is highly intelligent and picks up on things quickly, they also have an independent nature and can be quite stubborn. This can be difficult for a first-time dog owner to handle on their own. As such, puppy training classes or enlisting the help of a professional dog trainer is recommended for novice owners. Regardless of owner experience, puppy training classes can still be a good idea as they often offer opportunities to socialize a puppy on top of providing some structure and consistency for training. The Shar-Pei will shed regularly throughout the year and will probably drool too. Monthly nail trimming is usually enough to keep nails from growing too long. They may just grow quickly or your dog might not be wearing them down as much naturally. You want to make sure ears are clean, dry, and free of debris and pests. Unfortunately, many dog owners overlook this, which is why gum disease is the most common health issues in dogs. By practicing good dental care for dogs , you can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. Overall, the Shar-Pei has a moderate activity level. However, this will vary among individual dogs. You should be prepared for daily walks plus some playtime and extra activity. Oftentimes, a Shar-Pei will be up for more activity if you are. You may find that your Shar-Pei loves going on hikes, playing frisbee , or even training for dog sports. Because of their versatility, they tend to be a good fit for a variety of dog sports like agility, obedience, rally, tracking, and more. A fully-grown Shar-Pei usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. A Shar-Pei generally lives years. Also, the Shar-Pei tends to have a dark tongue like the Chow Chow. Featured Shar Pei Article. The Bulldog is a heavyset, low-slung dog, immediately identifiable for its flattened, wrinkly face, massive head, under-bite, and rolling, shuffling gait. Its history is of a fighting dog, used in bull-baiting and bear-fighting. When these sports were outlawed by the Cruelty to Animals Act of , the Bulldog started to be considered as a pet and companion. Selective breeding resulted in the modern dog that is amiable in nature and emotionally attached to its owner. The Chinese Shar Pei is distinct for its hippopotamus-shaped muzzle, blue-black tongue, and wrinkled face and body. It was named as one of the rarest dog breeds by Time magazine in .The Shar Pei was originally a Chinese fighting dog, and was also used for a variety of chores around the farm, such as hunting, and guarding and herding livestock. We are very proud to say we were one of the first breeders in the uk to breed the British Bull pei I am happy to say they make fantastic family pets. The Bull-Pei's single coat will either be smooth, flat on the skin, and fine in texture, or rough and prickly, and standing off from the body. The Bull-Pei is not a loud, gregarious dog, always looking to outshine all the company in a room and have everyone's attention on itself. It is a quiet, confident, dog, with a placid demeanour, They are very loving and utterly loyal to their family. They also retained their protective instincts, The Bull-Pei is drawn to protect children, or members of its family it perceives most vulnerable. They love to play, and can sturdily withstand rambunctious activities. The Bull-Pei will characteristically shed heavily twice a year, but has average shedding throughout, otherwise. Brushing the coat Once a week will help keep it clean and take out any shed fur caught in it. Its flattened muzzle means some difficulty in respiration, and dogs regulate body heat through respiration. Wrinkles on the face and body, more found on puppies than adults, should be wiped with a clean, damp cloth daily, to lessen the risk of infections forming. The Bull-Pei needs thorough socialization, from puppyhood until well into adolescence. It will be stubborn at times, and gentle yet firm handling will be needed from an experienced trainer or dog owner. Intelligent as it is, the Bull-Pei, with consistent, rewards-based training, will eventually be a hardworking dog that doesn't need to be shown or told twice what is needed of it. The Bull-pei needs Daily exercise of moderate degree and a duration of at least an hour is needed for the Bull-Pei. It is a heavy dog, and predispositioned to quickly gain weight and become obese if left to a sedentary lifestyle. It is not an active indoor dog, and will do with a small living space, but like any other dog, it needs to be taken out for walks, as part of its fitness routine and to let it follow its primal instinct of walking and exploring. Life Span Did You Know? The Pug, or Pug Dog, is famous for its flat-faced appearance and large, soulful eyes. They are an ancient dog breed that originated in China over 2, years ago. They were originally developed as a refined pet of Chinese royalty along with the Pekingese and the Shih Tzu. During this time, the Pug was considered a national treasure that outsiders could only access if one was gifted to them. Dutch traders from the s can be credited with bringing the Pug onto the world stage when they brought some back to Europe with them. The Pug made its way to the United States in the s. Now, the Pug is a popular dog breed worldwide. They are a popular companion that provides their owners with plenty of love and laughter from their comedic and playful antics. The Pug is a playful and outgoing dog breed with a charming personality. They tend to be very loving towards children and also get along well with other pets and dogs. They are a companion breed at heart known for their gentle nature and sociable personality. They love to give love and receive it in return. Their sensitive nature makes them intuitive as well and Pugs will often sense the moods of their owners and react accordingly. They crave attention and affection from their owners and are big fans of napping. This dog breed is often described as an ideal house dog and they are moderately adaptable. They will do well in homes of any size, including apartments. The Pug also adapts well to city or country life and are a good fit for singles or families of any size. Although they are highly adaptable to various living situations, they are less adaptable to climates. Pugs are very sensitive to the heat and overexertion, so they are best-suited to moderate climates. They also love to be with their families and will not be happy if left alone for a long time. As with any dog breed, the Pug has some health conditions to be aware of. In particular, corneal ulcers and dry eye are some potential eye problems that can occur. Additionally, Pugs can be susceptible to hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, and encephalitis. Asking the breeder about the genetic history of the parents and to see health clearances can help allay concerns for some of these health issues. Pugs are also big foodies. They love to eat! Their love for food means this dog breed is prone to obesity. As a brachycephalic dog, their large head and short snout often cause respiratory problems, which can limit their exercise at times and contribute to weight gain. This will cause them to quickly gasp and snort, which can sound relatively alarming. These episodes are usually not harmful as your Pug is just clearing their palate and throat. The Pug tends to be easy to train and is a good fit for owners of any experience level. They are eager to please their owners and tend to pick up on commands quickly. They are sensitive souls and their feelings can be hurt easily, so they will not respond well to harsh corrections. This dog breed responds best to consistent training that focuses on positive rewards and will benefit from participation in puppy training classes. Pugs have a smooth, glossy, and short coat. Their fur is fine and soft. Although their coat is generally low-maintenance, it will shed throughout the year. Aside from brushing, Pugs only need occasional baths on an as-needed basis. Because Pugs have ears that drop down, they can be susceptible to moisture, dirt, or debris. Checking their ears regularly and cleaning as needed helps to keep them healthy and comfortable. The same goes for their iconic face wrinkles. Daily brushing is ideal, but if your Pug is not allowing you to do that, a few times a week should be sufficient. Getting your Pug used to these grooming tasks as a puppy will help make it a positive bonding experience and a much easier process throughout their life. This dog breed has a low to moderate energy level. Generally, daily walks and some play sessions are enough exercise for this dog breed. They may have short bursts of energy as they have a very playful nature, but they will tire easily. Some Pugs can handle a little more activity and even compete in some dogs sports like agility, rally, and obedience. Make sure you check with your vet first before jumping into dog sports with your dog. A full-grown Pug will usually stand 10 to 11 inches tall at the shoulders and weigh between 14 and 18 pounds. This dog breed generally lives for years. The Pug was a popular pet of the Buddhist monasteries in Tibet. Featured Pug Article. Email: rockvalepuppies gmail. Stahlstown, PA Phone: Website: www. Tabitha breeds AKC Pugs and has puppies available throughout the year. They love their dogs and show commitment to the betterment of the breed in everything they do. But how can you spot reputable breeders when you start searching for a Pug puppy? Here are some tips to help you out. A good breeder will… 1. Issue a health guarantee Make sure that your breeder of choice offers a health guarantee. A reputable Pug breeder will write up a binding health guarantee for all of their puppies. The guarantee protects you against any genetic defects or diseases. It shows that the breeder is confident that their puppies are bred according to best practices. This means if you can no longer look after your pup for some reason, you will be expected to return the puppy to the breeder rather than taking them to a shelter. Provide standard health clearances Your breeder should have full health clearances for both parent Pugs. Good breeders often provide some early health-check clearances for their pups too, although some health clearances simply cannot be carried on such young pups. Issue a written bill of sale Reputable breeders offer written bills of sale to all of their new Pug parents. This bill of sale should be signed and will outline all the roles and responsibilities to be taken on by the buyer and seller as part of the transaction. Vaccinate their puppies All puppies should be up to date on their vaccinations before being homed with new families. Your breeder of choice should be able to provide evidence of these vaccinations. Reputable breeders welcome prospective parents into their homes to see the puppies. Follow age guidelines Puppies should never leave the litter before 8 weeks of age. Any breeder offering pups for adoption before this time is not following best practices. In fact, this could be quite damaging for the puppy developmentally. A reputable breeder will keep their pups at home until eight to twelve weeks so that they can be properly socialized and spend that crucial time with their mother and litter-mates. Answer your questions Last, but not least, a reputable breeder will be knowledgeable. In most cases, they will also want to ask you plenty of questions to ensure that their precious pups are going to good homes. We have a strict selection process that takes a variety of factors into account. That way we can ensure that only the best breeders end up on our lists. This way we know that our chosen breeders offer genetically sound and healthy puppies. Health testing shows a commitment to the health and wellbeing of each Pug. Contact information Any breeder that does not offer up their contact information is a big red flag. A reputable breeder will make it easy for you to get in contact with them by providing telephone numbers, email addresses, and they will usually have a well-established website as well. It shows a commitment to breeding best practices. Event participation Breeders who also compete in doggie events are often some of the best. Because these people tend to be dog lovers par excellence. They live and breathe for their Pugs and are proud to show them off in public. They are also more likely to have a high level of breed knowledge — an excellent sign for a breeder. Breed club membership There are lots of breed clubs out there that breeders can register with. These clubs have rules, regulations, and membership fees. If your breeder is registered with the Pug Dog Club of America, this is a great sign showing commitment to the Pug breed. Recognition awards Lastly, we look out for awards! Institutions like the AKC recognize the efforts and achievements of top breeders. The very best will be awarded the AKC recognition of merit award. During this time we recommend getting everything ready before your new arrival rattles through the front door. Your puppy will need: a crate for sleeping and training during the early days quality puppy-grade food a leash and harness plenty of toys You may also wish to purchase a puppy gate if there are areas of your home that you want to keep your Pug away from. This is all about making your home as safe as possible for your new arrival. Make sure anything that could potentially cause harm to your pup is removed. Clear your schedule Having a Pug puppy is a bit like having a human baby. So make sure to clear your schedule and get all of those errands done ahead of time! Once they arrive… 4. Avoid crowds Hold your excitement. That means no crowds. Try to keep the home environment as stress-free as possible so that your puppy can settle in and start to feel part of the family. Crate training is the first step. Lay down a regular routine from the get to and your Pug will be good as gold in no time.

Texas is a great place to live with an English bulldog. How do you breed for a healthier English Bulldog? Like all things in life, breeding for health is simply a matter of priority. We are blind to many of the breed priorities that distract other breeders from improving the health of the English Bulldog. We focus on health and personality and very little else. We are not interested in winning a blue ribbon in the show ring. Rather, we test for things like elongated soft palates, narrow tracheas, stenotic nares, luxation in the patellar tendons, heart defects, cherry eye, optic cilia, entropion, ect. We focus and prioritize creating healthy bloodlines, therefore our bulldogs are typically much healthier than the breed as a whole. After breeding for health, what other priorities are you focused on? Our true desire is to create the perfect family bulldog. We also believe a bulldog bred for the correct personality is essential to the family unit as well. A Bruiser Bulldog is bred for intelligence and playfulness. We want our bulldogs to be full of personality and some quirk. We believe a full personality along with a little stubbornness is the true North star of the bulldog breed and is what makes the unique among other breeds. We look for these personality traits in our adult bulldogs and continue to create bloodlines that reflect these qualities. What are the steps of your adoption process if I am located in Texas? Check out our available English Bulldog Puppies page. At times, we have available puppies but almost always have a waiting list as well. A quick look at our available puppies is the starting point to begin the process. Send us an email or give us call .If approved to adopt one of our puppies you are welcome to place a deposit to hold until your puppy is ready to go home. Greetings from the Wysongs! I am familiar with common and uncommon health problems they may face so when my boyfriend and I decided we were ready to adopt our own english puppy finding a reputable breeder that prioritizes health was most important to us. Erica and Mitch of Bruiser Bulldogs are just that. They are experienced, ethical and quality breeders. I was referred to them by my friend that I trust after I saw their gorgeous healthy puppy. Our Puppy Primrose is the light of our lives! Bruisers was there to assist us every step of the way. We would highly recommend Bruisers Bulldogs to anyone looking for their own happy, healthy pup! Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. They are experienced, responsive and knowledgeable about all things bulldog related. They went above and beyond for us and are truly dedicated to all of their pups! We love our little girl so much and would recommend Bruiser to anyone looking for a healthy beautiful bully. Jonathan E. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T. My fascination for this breed actually began as a child while growing up in Great Britain. The yearly outing with my father was one I looked forward to with much anticipation. Years later I married my husband, Gene. It was always my ambition to one day bring a boxer into our own family, to be raised together with our two young sons. In we ventured out to purchase our first American bred boxer. Both my husband and I consider ourselves very fortunate indeed to have been able to purchase a beautiful, show potential brindle bitch named Chelsea from Glenn and Zona Grupe of Glennroe Boxers. Attending shows together, Zona and I put four owner-handled majors in quick succession on our beautiful Chelsea. As our foundation bitch, she launched Telstar on its way to success. Much more, I might add, than my wildest dreams. Striving to do the very best we possibly can in every aspect of raising, breeding and showing our own dogs has enabled me to enjoy the benefits of knowing our achievements have come from our love and devotion for the Boxer. Showing and breeding has had additional perks. I have had the great fortune of meeting many wonderful people along the way. As a boxer breeder, I also derive a great deal of satisfaction when placing a pet puppy in a companion home, knowing that these buyers benefit not only from our philosophy of breeding a quality, healthy, structurally sound boxer, but also from having the joy and love of owning one. I still enjoy competing as an owner handler, and oddly enough, still feel that same overwhelming sense of accomplishment being on the other end of the leash when I finish the championship on one of my dogs. The feeling is no different than I felt in the beginning, some thirty years ago. The Fox family prefers to register their purebreds with the American Canine Association ACA and holds a 5 Star rating with them for their focus on quality bloodlines. She provided all pertinent information and more regarding the process and puppy. My dog was healthy and his veterinarian was very happy with his progress. All necessary paperwork provided by Miriam was completed and ready when I arrived. My pup is friendly and a joy to have. They were forthcoming with all the relevant information regarding their breeding process and puppy health precautions they take. The puppies were exactly as promised and given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian. They have friendly dispositions and are so observant and are adapting quickly. The whole experience was better than I could have hoped for! She was easily potty trained and at 21 months old has become the boss of the house. She was loved by hospice nursed and aides when my husband was going through vascular dementia and was at his side with me when he passed. I don't know what I'd do without her. She goes to doggie daycare when I am at work and loves it! She has her own seat in my car and loves to go anywhere. The Fox's made sure we got a healthy puppy, had her well socialized and I would definitely go to them if I was looking for another puppy. Formerly known at Micky and Misty Glenn and Miriam were wonderful to work with. Miriam was a pleasure to work with. We will definite call her in the future to adopt more pups! Thanks so much Miriam! He is so sweet and perfect! She came for us in November and is the best thing that happened in our lives. She is the best Yorkieshire ever, so sweet and passionate. So calm and lovely, she is always around me or my husband. Miriam was a pleasure to work with and Now our little dude is turning five soon we are thinking about getting him a brother at some point and we will definitely be going back to this breeder. Could not be any happier with our little Morkie dude. He's a happy healthy maltipoo and we had a great interaction with Miriam Fox and her husband. The puppy area was clean and well lit. I would highly recommend Glenn and Miriam Fox to acquire a puppy. We are in love with Ivy, previously Twinkle. She is well socialized and was obviously in good hands prior to us picking her up. Glen and Miriam were both very informative, easy to work with and gave us everything we needed prior to taking Ivy home. Miriam gave us a follow up call to make sure everything was going well. We strongly recommend them to anyone who is considering buying a puppy. We visited every week from 3 weeks old on. The first puppy we chose wasn't doing well so Miriam offered us another from the litter of 3. We named her Angel because we felt an Angel led her to us. She has been a joy. Miriam impressed us with the care she gives all her puppies. She always answered my questions honestly and was a pleasure to work with. She was recommended by the Vet we used when we had our other Yorkies so we trusted that and didn't regret it. Miriam is a jewel and I would recommend her to anyone looking for a puppy. Miriam is on point and will give you everything you need including all the necessary vet checks and paperworks before the puppy is picked up. Miriam is very communicative and gives precise instructions. We had to drive 5 hours from NYC to pick him up and all worth it. Duke has been the best addition to our family. Thank you Fox Kennels. All the best. She explained that she had a litter on the way and I would be placed on the list. I waited a month and received a call from Miriam letting me know that she had 2 females born out of 5 puppies. After a few weeks I was provided photos and updates on the female pups. We visited after the puppies were 4 weeks old, She took great measure in explaining that puppies are not released until after 8 weeks and it was under her discretion if they need an extra week to be weened away. Bubbles is so loves to be cuddled and gets along very well with our senior male dogs, Shiba Inu and Coton de Tulear. She is as healthy and happy as can be. We were truly fortunate to have gotten a puppy from Miriam. I highly recommend speaking to them about acquiring your new puppy! They were a pleasure to work with. We drove 10 hours to get her. We are in total love. Miriam is very knowledgeable and a great breeder. We highly recommend the Fox's! Molly is 1 year old and a Morkie breed. Sadie is 6 years old and a Lhasa poo. She has brought us happiness, playfulness, energy, and unconditional love. She is as beautiful as she is well behaved. We highly recommend Glenn and Miriam Fox as being exceptional in their field. They were easy to work with and helpful, as Daisy is our first family pet. They are Five Star in every category. Thank you. His name was Blitz, now goes by Chester, is in excellent health and is such a good puppy! Miriam was so nice to work with and had great communication. It was the first family dog, and he was worth the trip. In the weeks leading up to making the trip she promptly returned all my calls and patiently answered all of my many questions. Her facility is clean and you can tell how loved the puppies are. I have had Ollie for three months now and getting him was the best decision. He is smart, loving and has the best temperament. I can not say enough good things about Miriam and the amazing dogs she breeds. When none were available locally, we were directed to Greenfield Puppies by a dear friend who had been very pleased with her experience with this organization. We echo that sentiment fold! I spoke with several of the breeders; all were prompt in returning calls, polite, and helpful. She has been with us now for 6 weeks; happy and healthy, she is a joy! I have already recommended Greenfield Puppies to others and would not hesitate to look to them again in the future. She is the most amazing and smart puppy. Miriam was great with answering all my questions and being very flexible with my pick up date. She made the process so smooth and efficient which was fantastic due to our long drive back to NY. Thank you for giving me the best baby ever! Stoogie just turned 3 months and he is the most adorable, loving puppy ever.
German Shepherd Drawing Tutorial The image below is the final german shepherd sketch that you will achieve by the end of this tutorial. German shepherds have quite a unique physiology, with their sloping back legs, large ears, and long muzzle. The coloring of a german shepherd is also unlike many other dogs. Nailing these physiological and color characteristics will guarantee you a realistic german shepherd drawing. Every artist has their own unique style, and this should always show through in your final product. As such, do not expect your german shepherd sketch to look exactly like ours. You can use any medium of your choice to complete this tutorial. Whether you use a graphic tablet, or you prefer the allure of watercolor paint , you can simply adapt the instructions to suit your techniques. Step 1: Constructing the Main Body of Your German Shepherd Sketch For all of our animal drawing tutorials, we always begin by using construction lines to lay down the basic shape and proportions of our animal. Beginning with the largest part of the german shepherd, we are going to use an elongated oval to represent the main body shape. In this very first step, you need to be aware of the final shape of your german shepherd sketch. The german shepherd is facing to the left of the canvas, and as a result, this side of the oval should be higher than the other. This slope will help you nail the sloping hips in your german shepherd drawing. Our top drawing tip for this first step is to make sure that your main body construction oval is at the very center of your canvas. You will be adding legs and a head to this oval, so you need plenty of space! Step 2: Constructing the Head of Your German Shepherd Sketch This second step in our realistic german shepherd drawing tutorial is very simple. For the head, you can use a construction circle that is ever-so-slightly oval. Place this head circle just above the right end of the main body oval. You can see on our example below that our circle is slightly oval and that it is angled downwards, with one end facing the bottom left of the canvas. Step 3: Constructing the Muzzle of Your German Shepherd Drawing If you take another look at the finished drawing at the top of this tutorial, you will see that the mouth of the german shepherd is open slightly. In this step, we are going to use construction lines to lay the foundations for this muzzle. Step 4: Constructing the Ears of Your Dog One of the most characteristic features of german shepherds is their large and upright ears. The ear towards the front of the head is further away from us, and it will therefore be slightly narrower than the back one because it appears smaller and because the base will be slightly hidden by the ear closest to us. To capture the joint for this realistic german shepherd drawing, you are going to use a total of six lines for the leg closest to us, and four for the back one. Once again, we need to remember to consider the perspective of our drawing in this step. The leg that is closest to the left side of the canvas is further away from us, and it is therefore slightly shorter and the majority of it is hidden by the leg closest to us. Begin with the whole leg, which is the one that is closest to us. This line can be slightly angled, but not too much. Now, draw a smaller line that angles slightly towards the front of the german shepherd. To complete this leg, take another line down from the main body at more of an angle, and then draw a matching short line. You can separate the top and bottom parts of the leg with a single line, and then draw an oval at the end of the leg to represent the foot. For the second leg, simply draw the far-left line that curves slightly at the top as it leaves the main body oval. Start with the back leg that is further away from us, using a line that curves slightly towards the back of the canvas. Add the ankle joint using a short line that curves towards the front of the canvas, before finishing the leg with a longer foot oval, as this foot is side-on. Complete the back lines of this leg in the same way. For the very back leg, you can simply repeat these steps, making the leg thicker and more curved. The ankle joint can also be less curved towards the front of the canvas. At the end of this step, you will see the german shepherd shape coming through quite clearly. In the next step, you are going to use this basic shape to create the final outline of your realistic german shepherd drawing. Step 7: Drawing the Final Outline In this step, you can use all the previously drawn construction lines to help you outline the final body of your german shepherd drawing. Begin with the head, using a curved line to hide the ear that is furthest out, and then outlining the ears with a more realistic shape. Add some inner curved lines to create the inner eardrum. You can trace the muzzle construction lines quite closely and add a small nose patch. Add some bulges to the bottom neckline, and then take this line down to the legs and paws. You can trace the legs quite closely, but use some short strokes along the back of them to create the impression of fur. You can continue to use these short strokes to trace the belly of your german shepherd sketch into the first back leg. Use the same short fur strokes to outline the front of the very back thigh and adding in a fluffy tail between the back legs. Finish outlining the back legs in a single line and then take this line all the way up the back to join with the head. When you are finished with this step and you are happy with your outline, you can erase any of the remaining construction lines. Step 8: Adding the Detailing and Fur In this step, you are going to add fur detailing throughout the body of your german shepherd sketch. You can also add some shading details to the teeth and the edge of the tongue. To create additional realism in the face of your german shepherd drawing, you can add some shading around the eyes and in the ear curves. To draw the fur, it is important to consider the shape of your german shepherd. You want the hairlines to flow in the same direction as the body does. For example, the hair on the neck and back should flow downwards towards the back of the canvas. On the belly, tail, and back legs, you can direct the flow of the fur downwards. For the most realistic german shepherd drawing, make sure that the hair lengths on the head are the shortest, and as you move down the body, they should get longer. Step 9: Adding the First Coat of Color To get a realistic coloring for your german shepherd drawing, you need to layer up a few different shades. We begin by adding a single light base color, and then we will add a second color coat and shading, and highlights to create depth and dimension. For the base color of your realistic german shepherd drawing, choose a light shade of brown or caramel. You can use this shade to color the entire body of your german shepherd. Step Adding Shadows For this step, choose a slightly darker and warmer shade of brown to add some shading to your german shepherd sketch. Step Adding Highlights The highlight shade you want to use for this is a light beige color. Use a soft brush to apply this highlight around the top of the ears, just above the shoulder, along the back of the back leg, on the belly, and on the tops of the paws. You can also add a few patches of this highlight shade throughout the body. Step Adding the Second Coat of Color The second coat color you are going to use to create your realistic german shepherd drawing is black. Color the nostrils with a lighter shade of grey, and use this same grey to add shading to the inside and outside of the ears, and around the eye. Step Finalizing the Facial Details For this final detailing step, you are going to need a shade of light red, white, and brown. Begin by coloring the tongue with a light shade of red and adding a small highlight to the side with a touch of white. Color all of the visible teeth with your white shade, and add a little dot to the eye. Finally, for the last facial detail, use your shade of brown to color in the eyes of your german shepherd. Step Finishing Your Realistic German Shepherd Drawing For this very final step, you can make your drawing even more realistic by removing the outline and tracing over your fur strokes with your paint. Use the color that corresponds to that particular part of your german shepherd, and cover any outlines or fine lines that disrupt the realism of your drawing. Congratulations for finishing your realistic german shepherd drawing! We really hope that you have enjoyed the drawing process and that you are happy with your final sketch. Now that you know the basic process of how to draw a german shepherd, you can modify the tutorial to draw other types of dogs. Begin by drawing the dog's face. Use two curved lines to sketch each eye. Then, shade a circle within each eye to form the pupils. Draw an irregular rounded shape for the nose , and use curved lines to draw the snout around it. Connect the nose to the front of the snout with a short line. Next, draw the sides of the dog's head, complete with tufts of fur. Use long and short lines that meet at jagged points. Use a curved line for the lower jaw, and contour the nose with another curved line. Shade two small circles on the nose to indicate the nostrils. Draw the shepherd's triangular ears. Use long curved lines. Note the furry texture at the base of the ears, created using a series of curved lines that meet at jagged points. Connect the ears at the top of the head using a curved line. Then, use thick, overlapping curved lines to draw the eyebrows. Contour each ear with a long curved line and a series of short "U" shaped lines. Then, begin drawing the dog's furry chest. Outline each side using a series of long and short curved lines that meet at jagged points. Draw the dog's leg and paw using a series of curved lines. Note the jagged furry pattern at the elbow and the overlapping lines that form the toes. Then, extend a curved line on each side of the paw. This will become the pup's chew toy or dog bone. Draw the remaining leg and paw using a series of overlapping curved lines. Contour the chest with jagged series of curved lines. Draw the rear leg using a series of curved lines. Notice the furry texture on the front of the leg. Don't forget the short line between the front and rear legs that encloses the belly. Draw a long, curved line from the shoulder to outline the back and the top of the tail. Then, use a series of short curved lines that meet at jagged points to indicate the furry underside of the tail and finish enclosing the figure. Give the German shepherd a furry texture. Use a series of lines around the eyes and across the chest, side, leg, and tail. Most German shepherds are black and tan. Some are solid black or solid white. Others have patches of white, blonde, or reddish-brown. The online tutorials are easy to follow; they teach you the how to draw basics while showing you how to draw animals step by step. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods. Take your time and draw at your own pace. The Written step-by-step video tutorial: For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin. Step 1: Draw a big circle as a guide for the German shepherd dog's head. First make four small marks to indicate the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. If you're struggling to draw the circle, trace the outer rim of a glass, a bowl or any other object with a circular edge. For a more detailed guide on the different ways to draw a circle check out this tutorial: Four simple ways to draw a circle. Step 2: Draw a long, curved, horizontal line across the circle for a construction line. Draw this line slightly higher than the middle. Add a curved, vertical line on the top, left side. These lines will help you place the German shepherd dog's facial features later. Step 3: Draw a smaller circle on the lower, left side of the head as a guide for the German shepherd dog's muzzle. Use the four-marks technique to draw this circle too. Almost half of this circle should be outside of the first circle. Pay attention to the position and size of this circle. It should be about one-third the size of the first one. Step 4: On the top, right side of the head, draw a big triangle-like arc as a guide for the dog's first ear. German shepherds have big ears, so don't make this guide too small. Notice how far down it goes on the right side. Step 5: Draw another big triangle- like arc on the top, left side of the head as a guide for the dog's other ear. Use smooth lines to draw the head and then add the small torso. Depict the eyes and areas above the eyes. Draw two ovals to depict the eyes and add rounded shapes a little higher to represent the spots. Sketch out the front of the muzzle. With the help of smooth lines depict the upper and lower jaw. Add the rest of the muzzle. Depict the nose that has a triangular shape and draw the protruding tongue with smooth lines. Draw the ears. At the crown, draw two pointed erect ears and immediately add an inner outline. Depict the paws. With smooth lines, draw paws that have a wide base and taper downwards. Sketch out the tail and fingers. Add the tail that goes down and with the help of short strokes depict the fingers on all paws. Detail the color. Remove extra lines in the drawing and use jagged lines to depict large spots. Color the drawing. You will need different shades of gray or brown. Because of their gorgeous physical features, they are an extremely appealing subject to draw. Thus, it has created a huge demand for a free German Shepherd drawing tutorial. Finally, we present to you—a step-by-step tutorial on how to draw a German Shepherd in a nutshell. This tutorial consists of 9 easy and simple steps that come with visual illustrations. Have fun putting your imaginary pet dog into paper! Step 1 Starting on the upper left portion of your paper, draw a sideways oval shape to outline the head of your German Shepherd. In order to make sure that your German Shepherd will be drawn proportionally, create reference lines by drawing an intersecting horizontal and vertical line across your paper. These lines should divide your paper into four square spaces. The one on the upper left is where you should draw the oval shape. You can structure the body any way you want, and make it as thick or as thin as you want. Afterwards, get rid of the lines overlapping in the legs using an eraser to keep your drawing neat and tidy. Create the hind legs of your dog by drawing a curved line with a folded leg right underneath at the bottom of its body. Bear in mind that since the dog is facing sideways, only one leg is going to be visible. We think a furry tail looks best when drawing a German Shepherd, but feel free to draw the tail any way you like! The standing pointed ears, as seen in the illustration, is actually one of the most distinctive features of a German Shepherd. You can absolutely draw folded ears, droopy ears, or any form of ears you like! Step 8 — Add Patterns and Marks All Over its Coat German Shepherd dogs typically have more than one color, so we will be drawing lines all over its body to help us in coloring its coat later on. Draw another line across the body and the tail, as shown in the illustration. Step 9 — Finish Off by Drawing the Facial Features Finalize your German Shepherd artwork by drawing its eyes, nose, as well as the outline of its inner ear. Next, draw a pair of eyes right below its forehead. Now, complete its facial features by drawing a half upside down triangular shape on its snout to form the nose. This is the part where you can show off your artistic skills and your ability to mix and match various colors. German Shepherd dogs are generally black, grey, or sable in color. There are also some with a combination of the colors black and tan, red and black, and black and silver. This gives you a lot of color options when coloring your drawing. A purebred Akita has pointy ears, while a purebred Labrador Retriever has floppy ears, so hybrid dogs could either be a combination or a replica of the parent dogs. Color An Akita lab mix has a thick coat consisting of straight hairs that can be black, grey, brown, red, cream, fawn, white, pied, or brindle, and with short to medium in length. The Akita lab mix may wear a light or pale-colored mask on their face and have a light or white chest. The Labrakita has a big, square head, a stout frame with powerful legs, and a long tail that may curl somewhat over the back or coil all the way around like an Akita Inu tail. Because the Akita Labrador mixed breed is a cross between two complex temperaments, you're likely to get a one-of-a-kind dog. Also, be aware that predicting Labrakita puppies' future behavior may be difficult while selecting your new companion. When it comes to outsiders, this protective dog might be violent, yet it is gentle with its family. The Labrador Akita's thick double coat sheds heavily once every six months. If you bathe this designer breed too often or use too much shampoo, the dog may get a dry skin condition. Nail clipping must be done on a monthly basis, and examining the dog's ears for infections and ear mites should be done regularly as well. Training Because an Akita parent is a stubborn and independent dog , your Labrakita mix will initially require consistent and firm training as a puppy. Fortunately, the Labrador-Akita mix is an intelligent dog that is usually fairly easy to train thanks to its Labrador DNA. That means they can make an excellent guard dog when it comes to strangers, yet a cuddly, friendly dog behind closed doors that can potentially get along well with small children. With that being said, if you really want a good family dog or if you have very young children or other animals, it may be best to go for a pure Labrador Retriever instead of a Lab mix. This is because the Akita Lab mix can be quite large dogs and it can be difficult to predict their temperament due to the significant difference in personality between the Labrakita's parent breeds. One thing that can cause an issue with the Labrakita dog is their stubbornness, so you'll need to come up with the proper mix of persistence, compassion, and positive reinforcement. Plus, if you give your Labrakita more stimulation through physical challenges and exercise, it will be more receptive to training. Socialization When it comes to socializing your Labrakita, you'll have to devote time to training your companion to welcome visitors and relatives. Regrettably, it may not be a simple process. Having visitors or outsiders in its territory may irritate this dog, especially if they have more prominent Akita genes than Lab genes. But we should mention that some Akita Lab mixes can certainly learn to be a cherished family pet that will be exceptionally loyal and loving. Because this breed has natural predatory instincts, it is not recommended for households with different pets, particularly cats. We don't want their instinctive prey drive kicking in with the family's beloved guinea pig. Following slow and steady socialization with other dogs, however, could help your new friend enjoy the company of other canines. Exercise To keep fit, healthy, and content, the Lab Akita mix needs a lot of activity. If these dogs do not receive enough exercise, they can grow obese and agitated; thus, they should have at least 60 to 90 minutes of intense movement per day. Playing at the dog park, trekking, swimming, playing at the beach, brisk walks, or a jog around the neighborhood once or twice each day are just a few of their favorite activities, and they are particularly thrilled to be out and about. Akita Labs may develop negative behaviors such as nibbling on items and damaging property if they do not receive adequate exercise. Food and Diet The exact nutrition will be determined by the size, age, gender, and level of daily physical activity of the dog. The majority of these characteristics are determined by inherited parental genes. Akita Lab Mix And Families A cross between the Labrador and Akita Inu which are both family-oriented dogs, this hybrid also makes a perfect family pet. Keep in mind though that strict supervision is necessary for households with very young children. They will delight in the company of new friends or other dogs provided that they are introduced first. The Lab Akita combination is also an excellent guard dog because of their protective nature. They can become very hostile and may attack strangers aggressively. Keep in mind that early socialization helps take care of any bad habits that could develop. This hybrid combines two working breeds, one of which is a waterfowl retriever and the other a hunter of large game and devout protector. As such, Akita Lab mixes may be all about business, with an extremely loyal disposition toward their family, or they may be overflowing with friendliness toward most people, with only a slight affinity for sniffing after wild things. What Is an Akita Lab Mix? The Labrakita dog is the result of crossing a purebred Labrador retriever with a purebred Akita. The cross produces a large and big-boned dog with a thick double coat. These dogs were continuously bred with larger breeds, like the Great Dane, to enable them to track and hunt intimidating game such as wild boar, bears and deer. Over the years, the Akita became a treasured and loyal companion, often used as a guard dog and protector of land and master. Unfortunately, the breed almost went extinct, with caused Japan to launch an extensive reformation in the early s. Labradors The Labrador retriever hails from much further away, in Newfoundland, Canada. Eventually, the Lab as we know it today came to America, where the AKC accepted the breed as a member of its sporting group in .Make no mistake, Labradors are still prized hunting dogs, but they are most commonly used now as beloved family pets. Labrakita Temperament Due to its lineage, an Akita Lab mix can have one of two very different personality types, or it may have traits from each type. Akitas have a tendency to be standoffish and potentially aggressive toward unfamiliar people, and they can also be territorial around other dogs. They are very protective of their family and will not hesitate to make their presence known if they feel that their home is threatened. Furthermore, with their hunting background, Akitas also tend to chase after small animals, including other household pets like cats. If you entertain lots of guests in your house, then this will not be a good dog for that environment, either. They are usually fine with other dogs in the house, but they may also want to chase after smaller animals. They thrive on time spent with their owners and become anxious when left alone for too long. When left to their own devices, Labs can be rather destructive. Similarly to Akitas, Labs may be tempted to chase after anything that they get a whiff of while out in the yard or in public. If a Labrakita has English Lab breeding, though, then they may not have as strong of a prey drive. With all of the above being said, this will not be a dog that can spend much time off the leash, regardless of which parent they more closely resemble. If the mix has strong Lab genes, then he may be one of the following colors: Akita black Lab mix Yellow Lab Akita mix Chocolate Lab Akita mix Labs also come in dilute color formations, but these are far more rare. If a mix has strong Akita genes, then he may be one of the following colors: Black. Akita Lab mix puppies A Labrakita is likely to have aspects of each parent dog, but which traits transfer to which puppies can feel more like gambling than science in first generation crosses. Although second generations onwards have a bit more practictability when it comes to looks and personality. This hunting class dog works in packs and can bring down surprisingly large, fierce prey. Today, the Akita is a permanent part of Japanese history and culture. The Labrador Retriever hails from Newfoundland, which today is a part of Canada. This breed arose from a lineage of water dogs and has a wonderful swimming ability and natural love for water. Size, Height And Weight This mixed breed tends to be fairly large in adulthood. They can range anywhere from 21 to 28 inches tall, and weigh from 55 to lbs. This is because of certain differences in the personality and temperament of the Akita versus the Labrador. The Akita is a truly ancient dog breed that has evolved to hunt in packs of other equally large and intelligent dogs. They are intensely loyal to the point of being considered an excellent guard dog. In contrast, the Labrador is a dog that rarely meets a stranger — everyone is a friend! The Akita can be very independent and willful and so will need a positive, firm, steady, and consistent training regimen to integrate successfully into the social life of a family. The Lab also needs early and ongoing positive yet firm training to do well as part of a family and community. From this, you can already see that your Akita cross Lab puppy will need continuous socialization plus lots of positive reinforcement and training to do well as a pet dog. Both the Akita dog and the Labrador Retriever have short, thick, double-layer, water-repellent coats. The Akita has less doggy odor than the Lab, although both can benefit from an occasional bath. So you can expect at least weekly brushing and monthly bathing duties for your Labrakita, as well as a certain level of ongoing shedding and a twice-annual big coat shed. Despite being a mix, any reputable Akita Lab mix breeder will willingly volunteer results of all required and recommended breed-specific health tests. An Akita Lab mix with good socialization, from friendly parents, and positively trained has the potential to make an excellent family pet. However, there are risks of guarding behaviors, and intolerance towards rough handling by small kids. An Akita Lab mix can be a good family dog in a family with older children who can learn to handle the puppy appropriately. It is not a great dog choice if you have other vulnerable family pets. Both the Akita and the Lab have a strong prey drive from their shared background as hunting and working dogs. But try to focus more on health and personality than price, if you can. Make sure that you meet both parents. Decide whether you think either one of them or a combination of the two would fit into your lifestyle. Choose a breeder that is motivated by something more than money. Both parents should know their names, and be attached to their owner. They need to look bright, healthy, relaxed and well exercised.

puppy love labradoodles calgary - Balance Out the Entire Body There is no denying that poodles are high-maintenance canines that will require a lot of grooming. However, if you have the willingness and patience, every owner can learn the skill to groom these furballs. Read on to know about all the important steps which are necessary to groom a standard poodle at home. Prepare the Space for Grooming Kitchen counters are often considered the best spots for grooming canines. This is because they provide ample space for your dog to lay down and stay there for a while. However, you will need to create a comfortable arrangement for your pooch by using blankets and towels. Poodle Report suggests that you can also purchase a foldable dog grooming table paid link for your pup. This will make things even cozier because this product is specifically designed for this purpose. This is important because the coat should be completely clean and dry to ensure a smooth and pain-free experience. Use a pet-friendly shampoo and conditioner to bathe your pooch. Make sure that these cleaning products are removed properly from the fur. Dry your dog with a towel to absorb most of the moisture. Then, use a hairdryer to complete the drying process. Be mindful of difficult-to-reach areas, like armpits, and untangle all the knots before proceeding. Groom the Face and Neck Start by ensuring that the head of your poodle is secure and still. When the pooch is in position, start clipping the hair towards the ear. Keep the blade flat against the cheek and facing away from the eyes at all times. Once you are done with the face, shift your focus towards the neck. Start shaving from the neck towards the chin while keeping the nose upward. This will allow you to pull the neck skin taut, which is quite helpful for preventing painful nicks. Dogington Post advises the owners to use the same blade setting to get a uniform trim. Move the trimmer from the nape of the neck towards the tail while keeping the blade parallel to the back. Move to the Torso and Legs Once you are done with the back, you can start grooming the legs of your dog. If your canine friend is not willing to lie down, make sure they are well-balanced while trimming their legs. Clip downwards from the chest towards the belly and then from the base of the rib cage towards the armpits. Keep brushing the body while trimming to ensure a smooth finishing to the coat. For the legs, begin at the top of each leg and groom all the way to the ankle. You can clip the hair from these parts by gently lifting the opposite leg. Clip the Hair on the Feet One by one, hold a paw in your hand and trim the extra hair on the paws. You should also remove the superfluous fluff between the toes by separating the paw pads. Move the trimmer from the outside of the toes towards the inside. Groom the Tail The tail of your poodle can be trimmed as thin or round, depending upon your preference. Irrespective of the style you select, observe a lot of caution during this step. Balance Out the Entire Body After trimming all the body parts, you need to even out the hair of your poodle. This step is extremely important to give the desired visual appearance to your pooch. Start by setting up a standard for the length of coat you want. After that, use the trimmer to even out the entire body of your dog. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. This will be good practice for later on — for both of you! Yes, haircuts are essential for Poodles. Their thick, long, curly coats are prone to tangling and trapping debris. When will my Poodle puppy need haircuts? Then, at around four months old, they will shed their puppy coats and start to grow out their rougher adult coats. Frequency As a general rule, Poodles should have their coats clipped every weeks once their adult coats grow out, whatever your desired length. This is because they grow so quickly and can become matted just as fast! What equipment should I use? There are three main types of dog grooming scissors; straight scissors, curved scissors, and thinning shears, and they all perform slightly differently. Straight grooming scissors are a multi-task tool, they have straight blades for general, basic grooming, creating straight lines in the coat, and adding the finishing touches to haircuts. Curved dog grooming shear has a curved blade that can be used to fine-tune and shape specific areas of the coat, such as the paws and hindquarters. Thinning shears have a cutting edge on one blade and teeth on the other, and there are also double thinners that have teeth on both blades. They are designed to remove lots of hair in even sections for a natural finish, and they can also be used to blend out the harsh lines from clippers and texturize the coat. Or, if you just need something for the occasional touch-up between visits to the groomer, a simple pair of electrical motor clippers will do just fine. Electric motor clippers are also good for keeping short coats short. You should also be aware of the types of blades that come with clippers. The higher the number of the blade, the more hair that it will remove. Or, you can get guards that fit a single blade to customize the length, which is a lot more convenient. Start by showing them the equipment and getting them used to the sight and sound of it before you cut any hair. Reward them just for being around it and then try cutting a small section of hair. If they react well, reward them again, and then do another section. Keep rewarding them as you go and again after the haircut is finished. Do it in a well-lit, comfortable part of the home that your pup can stand up in. Once you get them into a routine — keep it up! Work your way down the legs first, then from the neck to the hindquarters, or vice versa, and then the tail. Take care with the feet, underside, and head, shielding their eyes from falling fur. Use long strokes and go from the neck down to the back legs. How to deal with grooming anxiety If your pup is afraid of the scissors or clippers, take it really slowly and try to make it an enjoyable experience. You can do this by breaking up the haircut into smaller sessions to make it less stressful and taking breaks in between each one. Give your dog lots of praise and a reward every time you take a break and ask another family member to comfort them during the haircut. You can start brushing your Poodle from any age. To brush them, simply go in the direction of hair growth using short strokes. Hold the fur at the base with your free hand to remove knots, and use a mat remover for any stubborn mats. Bathing a Poodle puppy As for bathing, you should give your Poodle pup their first proper bath at months old to help them shed their puppy coat, unless they get seriously dirty before that. However, you can give your pup a bath any time after weeks of age to get them used to the sensation, but avoid overbathing them, as this will strip the fur of its natural oils and make it dry and brittle. Once they have their adult coats, your Poodle pup will need a bath once a month. You can even buy shampoo that is designed especially for Poodle coats. To give your Poodle a bath, lather up their wet fur with the shampoo, massage it in, leave it for as long as directed on the bottle, and rinse thoroughly. Follow up with conditioner if necessary.
