Activity To prevent your Bulldog from gaining too much weight which can be problematic to its bone structure, ensure that it gets about fifteen minutes of exercise a day. Due to their inactive nature, they get tired easily and after those fifteen minutes, they will be ready to take a nap. Do not engage them in too much exercise though. A stroll up and down the street will serve your dog just fine. Weather Bulldogs have faces that are pushed in and as such, they do not do well in extreme temperatures. When they are exposed to high temperatures, they breathe very heavily as they are not able to dissipate heat efficiently. This makes them prone to suffering from heatstroke. How to measure your dog for crate size A lot of the crate size guides that you will see show recommendations based on the weight of a dog. However, when selecting the proper crate for your dog, the size matters more that the weight. The best way to measure this dog is with a simple tape measure. The two measurements that are important are height and length of your dog. How to measure the height of your dog Have your dog sit on the floor and face upward. This could be the forehead, nose or ears, depending on the dog. To be even more confident that your measurement is right, you can also measure your dog standing. Measure from the top of the head or ears if higher to the ground, just like you did when sitting. Take whichever of the two measurements is higher. When you have this height, add three to six inches to make sure that you are leaving enough room for your dog to be comfortable. Measure your pet from the tip of the note to the base of the tail do not include the tail, regardless of type of dog. Add the first measurement full length to one half of the second measurement arm length and that will give you your length. The reason for this is that when the pet is laying down, it can stick its arms or paws out beyond the standing length of its body. But, we know they find comfort and in their crate as an escape from the clamor of a busy house. Certainly, the crate can be a great tool and outlet for your bulldog IF used properly. As useful as crates can be they are often one of the most abused resources an adopter. There is much, unneeded controversy on using them that has stemmed from irresponsible dog owners abusing their purpose. We have found they love to snooze in their crate when road-tripping with us. Sleeping Once your bully is completely potty trained it is ok to sleep outside the crate, but we have found they often prefer their crate as a place of comfort as they grow older.
