Is there anything wrong with breeding the lightest yellow color in Labs? Absolutely not. They can be shown, they are correct. Any other color or a combination of colors is a disqualification. A small white spot on the chest is permissible, but not desirable. White hairs from aging or scarring are not to be misinterpreted as brindling. Black—Blacks are all black. A black with brindle markings or a black with tan markings is a disqualification. It is believed that some blue dogs are more prone to skin problems and perhaps allergies than dogs that are black. A DNA test on a dog can only show that a canine is a canine, that mom is mom, and Dad is dad and grandparents are the grandparents, if DNA was harvested from those dogs , and it can show the color traits and other traits it carries, as well as other traits that have been mapped. You may have heard that there are DNA tests that show what breed your dog is. Every genetic expert will tell you these tests are false and results are shady at best. One could not prove by DNA on a canine, that a dog several generations back was not a Labrador. I know other breeders who have been breeding chocolates for over 35 years, and have yet to produce it. Interestingly, the kennel who first started producing the color could only get it by inbreeding. Nothing will set a trait like inbreeding will of course it will produce negative traits as well. I can answer that for you — NONE. Because it would be considered a disqualifiable fault. They can not compete in conformation. Just because a dog was once registered as silver, does not make the color correct, or valid. The breed parent clubs do! Exhibits are judged against individual breed standards, which have been established for the AKC-recognized breeds by their parent clubs. These written standards describe the ideal size, color, and temperament of each breed, as well as correct proportion, structure, and movement. This is a misleading statement. Yes, unusual colors have cropped up throughout the history of Labradors. There are disqualifying colors and markings in all breeds. In order to maintain a standard, acceptable colors were defined, and written into the breed standards. I was there. The AKC agreed. In reality, the Silver puppies they kill have the same genetic make-up as the blacks, yellows, and chocolates they allow to survive. The only ethic these breeders are protecting is the ethical investment they have in their black and yellow bloodlines. Mismarked puppies occur all the time. This entire quote is intended to yank at your heart strings, and paint reputable breeders as heartless creatures. I have been very involved in the Labrador community nation wide for almost 30 years, and know of NO reputable breeder today who has even produced a silver, let alone euthanize it. I belong to several web forums of Labrador breeders, and when asked what they would do if it were even possible for them to produce a silver none of them had , what would they do with it? Answer — sell it just like any mismarked puppy, at a reduced price. I myself have produced mismarks as all breeders eventually will if they stay in the sport long enough , and sell them at a reduced cost to pet homes, who are thrilled to have this dog, which is a Labrador through-and-through, however, mismarked. I would not euthanize a puppy because of color, and I know of no breeder, of the thousands of breeders I am involved with who would. That was LONG ago, and long before safe spay and neuter practices, and limited registrations. And how do you get a pedigree from at least one of these kennels? Well you pay money for the privilege of having an outsourced agency send you the pedigree. How much money? Far more than the current postage of three pieces of paper can justify. A reputable breeder is more than happy to share their pedigrees, and many post them on their websites for your immediate review. This is a statement intended to mislead and misinform the unknowing reader. Well over 20 years ago, there were chocolate champions! I wonder how chocolate mutated from the yellow, when the chocolates showed up first? They were quite established long before that, and their genetics well known. So, what do the people who want to charge you more money for a non-recognized color do? Another way to determine how reputable a registry is, would be to find out how many dogs are registered annually. Tucson On an odd rainy day in February, I met up with Cheryl at the vet's office to meet Valentino, when I saw the puppies I could not decide which one so I adopted them both as love is not for sale. There were only 3 in their litter and Romeo was already reserved. Teddy and Valentino named so due to being born on Valentines Day are the love that we needed in our family. Let me tell you, sometimes they are very mischievous, rambunctious and can be down right stubborn. With that being said, I would not trade them for the world. I spent a Saturday sewing it up, while arguing with Teddy. He has claimed this sofa as his own. This is the love that I speak of. No matter what they get into, just one look at those sad eyes and I am a big bag of mush. They are the cleanest babies I have ever seen. They love to play in the mud and I let them! They are my babies. They are so smart, I lock them out of the doggie door and they will clean themselves, when finished they knock on the door. They loves kids! They use to jump on them but I have trained them that babies cry. So now they walk up and allow them to pet them while they wag their stumps and drool thank goodness Walmart has an endless supply of baby wipes. They are very territorial,nthis is our fault. At various times throughout the day or even years, a Frenchies nose will become very dry. This does not mean to say that your fury friend is sick. A crusty nose can create a fair bit of discomfort and should be addressed quickly. As with any symptom the first thing you will want to do is get a proper diagnosis from your vet so as to understand the cause and best treatment available because you want to be sure there are no other health problems. When keratin has grown a fair amount, this will cause peeling to occur. It starts to become hard and then flakes off. This can be managed by moisturising your dogs with special ointments or lotions. There are a number of products made by the Natural Dog Company that will keep the nose in optimal health by moisturising the skin for hours after application. Bread Trait Since Frenchies are prone to having a nose that can crust over aswell as having their snout pressed in Brachycephalic , it creates a breeding ground for bacteria growth. When this happens, a Vet should be consulted. The good news is that there are a number of creams and ointments available to help manage the bacteria and fungus growth. A Vet may also prescribe some shampoos to help control the bacteria. Allergies Frenchies are susceptible to allergies due to their short snout. Allergic reactions include other symptoms like persistent sneezing, itching, hives, watery fluid from the nose, and ear infections. At times you will notice a clear discharge from the nostrils. These allergies can create discomfort for your Frenchie and a Vet may prescribe an allergy medication. In addition, diet also plays an important role in managing their allergies. Therefore, it is very important that you keep a close watch on the colour of the discharge because infection can result. If you notice a yellow or green discharge, then you should consult with your Vet. Environment In the summer, exposure to sun and dry air can cause a Frenchies nose to get crusty or flaky. In Winter, the cold air can also cause a Frenchies nose to dry up. Further, those Frenchies who like to curl up in front of a heater for long periods of time will cause their nose to dry up. Using a good quality lotion can help control this. Dehydration Strenuous exercise or hot temperatures can cause severe dehydration, which then causes a Frenchies nose to dry out. As soon as you notice a dry nose, also make sure to check the gums and get in the routine of monitoring your Frenchies gums. This is particularly important if they lead a very active lifestyle. Properly hydrated gums should be pink and moist to the touch, while gums that are dry, tacky, and pale indicate dehydration. Keep fresh water available at all times and remember dogs should drink water regularly throughout the day. To give your dog the best chance at avoiding nose problems, owners should be willing to apply ointment on the nose daily, as well as making sure you watch for any breathing difficulties. When you wash your Frenchie, make sure you are cleaning under the folds of the skin, and drying in between as well. It is also wise to clean the folds with hydrogen peroxide to kill any bacteria and prevent an infection from forming. Is their nose drier during certain times of the day or year? Again, in the way that chapped lips are uncomfortable and can lead to bleeding, a dry cracked nose could be equally annoying for dogs. The last thing you want is for your dog to feel any discomfort or pain on a part of their anatomy that is so sensitive. Then there is the other issue of dogs needing their nose to smell. There is a concern that dryness and other issues around the nose could impede their ability to smell and the sensitivity of the tissues What causes French Bulldog dry noses? In order to help keep our Frenchie noses wet and healthy, it helps to understand the causes of this issue. There are a few possible causes that lead to a little dryness now and then. Other factors could cause more frequent cases or those issues of cracked skin. These include the following: 1 Weather conditions This cause is familiar to any dog owner that deals with drier skin in the winter. Colder weather can make skin conditions a lot worse, and even those of us without any diagnosed condition will need to moisturize our hands and face more often. Therefore, it makes sense that our pets go through something similar. Senior dogs may struggle to retain moisture in their skin and this is more obvious in the nose. They may also be more likely to sleep a little longer, which makes the nose even drier when they wake up. There is the possibility of a lack of moisture in the skin because of a more general lack of hydration. This could be as simple as that your dog has just woken up for a long sleep and is yet to drink. But, a disinterest in water or other symptoms of dehydration are cause for concern. Skin conditions are closely related to allergies, whether that means reactions to food, parasites, or environmental factors. There are cases where the problems with the skin are a symptom of autoimmune disorders or respiratory illness. In some cases, there may be additional symptoms to take note of. This is a condition where the body produces too much keratin, which then leads to tougher, rougher patches of skin. The likelihood of dryness in the nose makes it a common site for these rougher patches of skin. Unfortunately, this mostly happens for an unknown reason and many vets will see it as a cosmetic issue. Should you go and see your vet about your Frenchies dry nose? It depends on the extent of the problem. A little dryness now and then is normal. Extreme cracking could be the sign of something worse, so here it might help to call on an expert opinion. Your vet can perform tests and see if there is anything else going on, especially if you notice any other issues like sores around the nose, breathing issues, or other signs of poor health. Whatever the reason, they can advise you on what to do next. This includes advice on providing a better environment at home, using products to soothe the skin, and making any necessary changes that could minimize the risk of allergic reactions. What can you do to keep your Frenchies nose moist? Now you know some of the causes, you can figure out the best solution for your pet. As mentioned above, your vet should be able to help you out with all kinds of solutions. But, there is a lot that you can do yourself to provide relief and reduce the frequency of the problem. It is second nature to come home after a long walk in colder temperatures and put the central heating on. But, this can create a drier environment that damages the skin further. A dehumidifier could be a good investment, not just for your Frenchie but for the whole family. These devices will improve the air quality and lessen the risk of skin drying out. Easy access to fresh clean water is essential, whatever the season, so that dogs stay hydrated and healthy. Some pet owners that leave their dogs alone for long periods may accidentally neglect this. It is also important to use safe water bowls, especially if there is a risk of reactions to plastic. That said, does a dry nose indicate you have a sick pup on your hands? Generally, no. If you notice any combination of these symptoms, you should definitely get your Frenchie booked in with your veterinarian as soon as possible, as it could be an indicator of a more serious medical condition, such as an auto-immune disease. This is what a healthy French Bulldog puppy nose should look like. If anything, you can expect your French Bulldog to struggle with a dry, cracked, or crusty nose throughout their lifetime. If you press the gums, the skin should turn white for a second but then return to a healthy pink shortly after. If the area takes a while to return to its normal color, this is another strong indicator of dehydration. One of the most common reasons for dehydration is too much exercise. Frenchies are especially susceptible to this as it takes much less activity to wear them out, especially compared to other breeds. Frenchies need to have small bouts of exercise throughout the day to avoid over-exhaustion, and if you can, it would be worth bringing a small water bottle with you so that they can stay hydrated while out and about, especially during the summer. If you notice that your Frenchie is simply not drinking from their bowl, try giving the dish a thorough clean with soap and water before filling it up with fresh water again. Allergies A dry nose might also indicate that your Frenchie is struggling with an allergic reaction. If an allergy is the cause, you will likely see other symptoms such as: Itchiness, which can be general or localised. Inflamed skin. This may cause the dog to choke while eating or drinking, so food time should be monitored. Smell As stated above, the French Bulldog is prone to having a nose that can crust over. In addition to this crust, the snout is pushed in so there are flaps of skin that can be a breeding ground for bacteria growth. Skin fold dermatitis is extremely common for this breed and if an odor is noticed, a veterinarian should be consulted. The time when surgery should not be avoided is when the dog is unable to breathe, chokes regularly while drinking or eating, or infections become a regular thing. Conclusion If you decide to own a French Bulldog you will likely be required to keep up with a number of different maintenance challenges. They are more prone to health issues, but with proper maintenance and care, they make great pets. Keeping the nose moistened and clean prevents a majority of the breathing problems the dog may encounter. However, finding a good veterinarian that understands the health needs will help you decide if you should be concerned and contemplate surgery to offer your dog an easier time breathing.

Attributes While the breed is barrel-chested and athletic looking, perhaps the most distinguishing feature is the shape of their head. Boxers have a sturdy build and muscular body, weighing anywhere from pounds and standing inches tall, with the female members of the breed being significantly smaller than their male counterparts. Boxers come in several colors, including brindle, tan, black, and even white. However, like most white-coated animals, white Boxers do run a higher risk for deafness. There are no indications, other than the increased risk of deafness, that white Boxers are more prone to other types of health concerns or temperament issues. Giving a Boxer the exercise and energy outlets they need can go a long way toward having a well-behaved pooch. Conversely, a Boxer with high energy but no outlet can go from clownish to destructive. This, of course, can be avoided with plenty of stimulation and activity — which are also great ways to form a bond with these playful pups. Boxers, like most dogs, also need regular nail trims, teeth brushing , and an occasional ear cleaning. Your veterinarian can recommend an ear cleaning solution. And, remember: use a cotton ball to wipe the ear clean and never go down deeper than your first knuckle. Also, avoid using cotton swabs. They can actually push dirt and debris further down into the ear. And those wrinkles — make sure to clean them out with a damp towel to help avoid any possible infections.
