Please be aware that there are pet stores and websites advertising each breed of dog claiming to be a 'breeder directory' but they are actually puppymills. Just because a website has a lot of pictures does not mean that those pictures were not stolen from other breeders!! Puppymills are massive breeding facilities that only view dogs as commodities. Breeding dogs are housed in shockingly poor conditions and bred until they can no longer produce, with very little human contact and suffer from neglect, poor health, parasitic infestations, and horrific wounds because they are forced to live on their feces confined to small filthy cages. So many people own dogs that have come from puppymills and dont even realize it. Unfortunately puppymills are thriving on the internet because buyers are not aware that such cruelty exists. Making such a purchase does not "rescue" the puppy- it in fact condemns puppymill dogs to a life of torture. It is estimated that there are over 4 million dogs being bred in puppymills every single year! And this number is growing.The current laws are insufficient in protecting dogs and puppies from neglect and exploitation. We have been awarded. A Labrador retriever has a thick tail of medium length and has a relatively short fur. Their tail is not curled but straight. You can expect Labradoodles to have a varying mixture of each parent trait. Some Labradoodles who inherit a dominant part of the Labrador genes have a smooth and straight tail. A distinctive feature of this breed is their coat, which is non-shedding and easy to manage. Temperament: Extremely clever, sociable, comical, joyful, energetic when free and soft and quiet when handled. They should approach people in a happy friendly manner, keen and easy to train. Mouth: Must be a scissor bite. Upper teeth to just overlap the bottom teeth. Nose: Should be large, of square appearance and fleshy. Neck: Well proportioned of good strength, moderately long lending an air of elegance, slightly arched and flow into shoulders with no appearance of abruptness. Forequarters: Shoulders blades and upperarms to be the same length, and shoulders should be well laid back. Elbows are set close to the body. Forelegs to be straight when viewed from the front. Toeing in our out is a fault. Body: Height to wither as to length from sternum to point of buttock should appear square and compact. Deep chest and well sprung. There should be a good tuck up. Loins should be strong and muscular. Hindquarters: In profile, the croup is nearly flat, slight sloping of the croup is acceptable. Stifles should be moderately turned to propel forward movement, and hindquarters well muscled for power in movement. Hock to heel should be strong and short being perpendicular to the ground. View from the rear should be parallel to each other, must not be cow-hocked. Feet: The feet are of medium size, round with well-arched toes having elastic and thick pads. The feet should not turn in or out. Tail: The tail should follow the topline in repose or when in motion. It may be carried gaily, but should not curl completely over the back. Tip of the tail should not touch the back nor curl upon itself. Movement: Trotting gait is effortless, smooth, powerful and coordinated in mature dogs. Labradoodle tails vary in length, thickness, coat type, how high they are set, and so forth. So it usually helps to imagine a Labrador tail and an undocked Poodle, and expect anything in between. But however they look, there are some important tail facts every Labradoodle owner should know. Which is understandable, because most Labradoodles are a first generation cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle, and these two dogs have quite different-looking tails! It should be: Very thick at the base, gradually tapering toward the tip. Medium length. Covered in short, dense fur and free from feathering. Set at the same height as the end of their back, so the top line is a continuous horizontal line. Carried horizontally — not curled over the back. Set high up and carried vertically. Shaved at the base, with a pompon of fur at the tip. And the answer is that the bone structure of the tail is likely to be straight, but the fur on it is likely to be curly! However, some Labradoodles are born with short, straight hair like a Labrador. Even within a single litter of siblings, you might notice several distinct kinds of Labradoodle outline, including very horizontal tails, and very upright tails. Their breed standard says that the Australian Labradoodle tail should: Be long and not too thin. Follow the topline when in repose. Be carried high in a happy or lively manner when in motion. Remain undocked. Curly tails are acceptable, but tails that curl over onto the back are not ideal. The inclusion of permitted curled shape is a nod to some of the other breeds which also contributed to founding the Australian Labradoodle breed, that have curved tails notably the Cocker Spaniel and the Irish Water Spaniel. Do people dock Labradoodle tails? Tail docking is traditional in some working dogs, including Poodles, to protect them from tail injuries. Since the AKC breed standard for show Poodles reflects this working tradition, it has also become commonplace to dock Poodles who will never work a day in their lives. However, docking is gradually falling out of favor for pet dogs, and several animal welfare organisations have specifically called for an end to it altogether. Since most Labradoodles are kept as purely pets, it is unusual to dock their tails. The Worldwide Australian Labradoodle Association specifically says that the Australian Labradoodle tail should not be docked. Here are some Labradoodle tail problems to be aware of: Color dilution alopecia Color dilution alopecia is when the hair follicles of dogs with dilute coats self destruct, leaving bald patches. The dilute Labradoodle colors are blue, silver beige, and silver. You may need to take extra care of the exposed skin to prevent it getting dry, scaly, itchy or broken. Skin problems Dogs with dermatitis, flea bite allergies, or any other skin condition can be equally affected on the skin on their tails. But since the skin is relatively tight over their tail compared to the rest of their body, if splits or breaks it can take longer for the wound to close up again. Fractures All dogs with a full tail are at risk of fractures or tissue damage through exercise, roughhousing with other dogs, or even wagging their tail too hard into a door frame or piece of furniture. You should always take them to see a vet if you suspect this has happened. Dogs with long wavy, fleecy or curly coats can get fecal matter trapped in the fur around the base of their tail. This unpleasant problem can be cleaned up with grooming wipes bought online or from the pet store. Dried-on poop may need to be gently cut away with blunt-ended scissors. It is traditionally associated with swimming in cold water, but it can also be triggered by being kept in a too-small crate, high latitudes, and underlying genetic susceptibility. Tails with limber tail are stiff at the base, and limp along the rest of their length. Affected dogs are likely to show signs of pain walking, sitting, and toileting. Their vet can prescribe painkillers and anti-inflammatories to help them get better quickly. In between clips it needs to be brushed all the way down to the roots every day or so. This lifts out dirt and debris, and prevents matts forming at the base of the hair, which tug painfully and even interfere with blood circulation underneath the skin. This extra long growth on the tail is known as feathering. The easiest way is to have a helper feed your Doodle treats at one end, while you use a pair of sharp scissors to whip their tail down to size at the other. Labradoodle Tail Summary First generation Labradoodle tails can vary between dogs. The structure of their tail and the texture of the hair on it will depend on how much they take after each of their parents. Stop should be moderate with eyes set well apart. The head should be clean-cut and free from fleshy cheeks. The whole head must be in proportion to the size of the dog. Medium stop, length from nose to eyes should be only slightly longer than length from eyes to occiput. Skull should be slightly rounded but not domed. Forehead medium breadth, muzzle not snipey, but should have depth and breadth. Weak underjaw is a fault. Expression to be lively, curious, wise, full of fun and with an intuitive expression, seeking contact with human eyes. A sharp, piercing or expressionless eye is a serious fault. Eye colors can be darkest brown, a transparent honey color, or shades of hazel. Protruding eyes, sunken or watery eyes are a fault. Odd colored eyes each a different color to the other is a serious fault. Marble eyes such as are found in Blue Merle dogs is a serious fault. A feature of the eyes is their very long eyelashes which should never be cut. Ears: Low on the head and can not stick up or out. Leather should be of medium thickness, and leather should not hang below the lower lip line. Excessive hair in the ear canal is undesirable. Upper teeth to just overlap the bottom teeth. Gaps between upper and lower teeth are a fault. Undershot mouths where the lower teeth extend beyond the upper teeth are a fault. Overshot mouths where the upper teeth extend beyond the lower teeth are a fault. Level bite, where the biting edges of teeth meet but do not overlap are a fault but not a serious fault. Crowded teeth in the adult dog are a fault especially in Miniatures. A definite feature. Large square and fleshy in appearance. Must never be small, pinched, narrow or pointed. Elbows are set close to the body. Forelegs to be straight when viewed from the front. Toeing in our out is a fault. Deep chest and well sprung. There should be a good tuck up. Loins should be strong and muscular. Level top line, strong over loins and slightly sloping croup and with sloping shoulders flowing into firm elbows and front legs straight to the ground. Straight upright shoulders are a fault as are straight stifles. Stifles should have medium angulation and be long, with short strong hocks parallel and straight to the ground. View from the rear should be parallel to each other, must not be cow-hocked. The feet should not turn in or out. Front dewclaws may be removed although it is not necessary. It is rare for an Australian Labradoodle to have hind dewclaws but if puppies are born with them they must be removed at four days old. It may be carried gaily, but should not curl completely over the back. Tip of tail should not touch the back nor curl upon itself. But during the formative years of this breed the tail may be carried gaily and swirling over the back. Tightly curled teapot tails are a fault. Kinked tails are a fault. Tails must not be docked. Light, lithe, graceful and athletic. Looking like they are dancing and ballerina-like in motion. When galloping, they should appear to float almost above the ground. Light and airy, flowing and free moving with a complete absence of apparent effort. Hair coats and Normal Fleece coat mix Examples of the different coat types. .Any coat length is acceptable but preferable not past 4 inches in length. The coat should be even over the entire body. It should be straight, wavy or forming spirals. It should not be too thick or dense, nor should it be fluffy or fuzzy. It should be a single coat. Any sign of an undercoat is a serious fault. Can range between a fleece to wool in texture. Extremely harsh hair is highly undesirable. A light trimming might be required with scissors but usually not. The hair coat is usually only seen with the first generation F1 Labradoodles. This coat usually requires trimming one-two times a year. The coat is always a single coat with a definite absence of fluffy undercoat. With the exception of the hormonal shedding, this should not shed itself out, but needs to be stripped out with grooming. Length is around four to six inches, on body, tail, head and face and on the legs. The Wavy Fleece Coat is the ultimate coat type. Straightish and only slightly wavy as puppies more curl develops until the coat is a long swinging curtain of loose slightly wavy tendrils. The Micro Fine Fleece Coat Supper soft and fine texture in wavy or spiralling coat is an allergy and asthma friendly coat, if kept well groomed. This coat also requires trimming about three-four times a year. The coat should not appear overly groomed and any appearance of sun bleaching is acceptable. Colours of Caramel may have dark amber to pale hazel-green eyes; liver noses, eye rims and lips; and self coloured to dark nails.
