All dogs are unique and grow at their own rate. Pro Tip: Check out our complete guide to puppy care to ensure your Lab gets off to a great start. As a medium to large breed, Labrador Retrievers need at least one year to reach their full size. A general rule of thumb suggests your Lab should be at or close to its full size by their first birthday. However, bigger-boned Lab puppies can keep growing and filling out their chest up to 18 months old. How big should a 6-month-old Labrador Retriever be? The average Lab weight at six months old is about 40 to 55 pounds for males or 30 to 35 pounds for females. Please keep in mind that these numbers are averages, and every puppy will grow at a slightly different rate. How much bigger will my Labrador Retriever get? There are three ways to predict the size of a Labrador Retriever at maturity: Age. Labrador Retrievers typically reach their full height and weight around their first birthday. Larger Labs may need up to 18 months to fill out their chest, but any weight gain after 12 months should be minimal overall. If your Lab is less than a year old, they are likely still growing and putting on muscle to reach their adult size. Paw Size. If their paws look oversized next to their legs and body, then they are probably still growing, as this is a classic puppy feature. Lastly, if you purchased your Lab through a breeder, you can contact them for a more exact height and weight estimate. What is the size of a full-grown Labrador Retriever? A full-grown Labrador Retriever weighs between 65 and 80 pounds and stands about .The average weight of a full-grown female Labrador Retriever should be about 55 to 70 pounds, standing at .Make sure to consult with your veterinarian to ensure that your Lab is maintaining a healthy weight for its body size. The Labrador Retriever growth rate should be indicative of its athletic body and muscular build. Did you know. ? Their webbed paws made them strong swimmers, along with their otter tail, which acts like a powerful rudder when retrieving ducks. English nobles spotted the dogs and brought them home across the Atlantic, where breeders continued to refine the breed into its own variation. Between their friendly demeanor, adaptability, and outgoing disposition, they make ideal family members. As cherished members of our families, Labs deserve the best care. Unfortunately, like many other purebred dogs, Labrador Retrievers are more susceptible to various health issues. Some of the most common examples include:. But those first weeks of puppy development are very similar whatever the breed, and these landmarks are good general rules for any dog. Puppy development week by week, changes quickly. Newborn Puppies Newborn puppies are born at the end of nine weeks of pregnancy, with their eyes and ears tightly closed. They already have a fur coat but they cannot yet control their own body temperature. They are dependent on their mother or another heat source to keep them warm. Newborn puppies may cry if cold. But they do not have the strength to cry for long. Newborn Labrador puppies snuggle together to keep warm when their mother is away How Helpless are Newborn Pups? Although they rely on mom for a lot at this stage, newborn puppies are not completely helpless. They can use their front feet to drag themselves towards a heat source or their milk supply. This means their mom, not milk alternatives like cow or goat milk. Newborn pups have no teeth yet. But they can move their heads about to search for a nipple, and they can latch on and suck strongly. Their mother leaves them only to eat, drink and for bathroom purposes. While she is away, the puppies will crawl together to preserve their body heat, as you can see in the photo above. They may also crawl under a heat lamp source to keep warm. In every other respect newborn puppies are completely dependent on the care of their mother. Newborn pups have little control over the rear end of their bodies. The mother dog washes them and licks their bottoms to encourage elimination, licking up and swallowing anything they produce to keep her babies and their nest scrupulously clean. In fact, he may even double his birth weight! One week later and the puppies have doubled their birth weight. Changes are taking place under his eyelids to prepare them for opening. And usually begins during the second week of life. Ears open at this point too, so your puppy will begin to hear. The Labrador puppies in this picture are two weeks olds. Two weeks old and the puppies eyes are now open! You can see that their eyes are now open and the puppies are beginning to look a little more dog-like. The breeder will be handling the puppies more now. And most puppies are wormed for the first time at two weeks old. Most 3 week old puppies can stand and sit, and are beginning to totter about. They are also starting to develop their individuality. No longer are they just a row of identical little fat furry sausages! This little three week old puppy :- Can easily be distinguished from his brother: Teething and Further Development At 3 weeks old, this is also the point at which puppies start teething — cutting their first deciduous baby teeth. Obviously the teeth are appearing for a reason! Some breeders will start to offer the first tastes of solid food at this point. Especially if the litter is a large one and putting a strain on the mother dog. It is lovely to watch a litter of 3 week old puppies beginning to interact with their brothers and sisters. They are running, playing enthusiastically, and have started to wag their little tails. The puppies will start to show bowel control as they move away from the other puppies to defecate. And solid food is becoming a major part of their diet. These little pups are tucking into some puppy food. Four week old puppies having their dinner in the fresh air If the weather is warm enough, puppies will be spending some time outdoors now. Mealtimes are a messy process, so feeding puppies out in the yard can be a good idea. Breeder Involvement Some mother dogs will lose interest in cleaning up after their pups at this point or soon afterwards. And many puppies will be wormed again this week. Vocalizations are becoming stronger at this puppy development stage. The litter will greet their mother noisily when she returns to them, and try hard to follow her out of the whelping box whenever she leaves. The puppies themselves are now eating solid food several times a day and gradually being weaned of their dependency on her milk. Puppies will still suckle ravenously when their mother returns and she will now often feed them standing up and only for a short time. She will also be teaching the puppies not to bite too hard. So, they should be increasingly spending time with humans and learning to be familiar with the sounds and sights of a human family environment. Puppies being raised in kennels must be brought into a home environment regularly from now on to ensure they develop into confident, friendly dogs. Six weeks old and full of mischief Puppies Still Have a Lot to Learn at 6 Weeks In some countries, puppies are taken to their new homes at this age. But this is not a good idea, and can result in a puppy that has poor bite inhibition and is challenging to manage. The puppies are learning not to bite too hard from the reactions of their mother and siblings. Growth is not quite so fast now. But the puppies will still grow strongly for the next few months. Many puppies will be wormed again this week. All that remains is for plenty of great socialization experiences to be packed into this week, with final checks on health. Many breeders will arrange for each seven week old puppy to have a vet check this week. And though some vets advise against it, some puppies are also given their first vaccinations before they leave for their new homes. Some breeders will now have the puppies trained to pee and poop on puppy pads or newspaper. And some will have been whistling to the puppies at meal times to get them used to coming to a human signal. Potty training is now underway and puppy socialization plans are being made. At this point, many of you will be thinking about training your puppy too. The next four weeks are vital in puppy development stages. Your main job is socializing your puppy. This means taking him to lots of new places and exposing him to lots of new experiences. So, life will be starting to get back to normal. Most puppies in the U. In the U. So, not all puppies will get their vaccinations at the exact same age. Socializing your puppy is still the most important job for you at this age. But, you cannot put your puppy on the ground outside until they have received their final vaccination. So, make sure you know exactly when their final jab is. And carry on introducing them to as many new people, things, and experiences as possible throughout this puppy development stage. Some people can suffer from the puppy blues at this stage too, as your life has completely changed! But, that does not mean socialization can stop. Puppies who are isolated at this point will soon lose that friendly fearlessness. You have an important job now, building on what has been achieved so far, and introducing your puppy to the world at ground level. This part of his education can begin once his vaccination cover is complete. He should be fully immunised at around this point. But check with your vet for confirmation of the actual date. Three months also marks the point at which many puppies will drop down from four daily meals, to three. This can cause problems for some puppies because the portions are larger If your puppy gets an upset tummy when you make this change, just go back up to four meals again for a few days, and give smaller portions for a few days when you try again. But, many will need another month before they can cope without frequent bathroom breaks and the occasional accident. Your puppy will begin to lose his baby teeth. This can also be a time at which biting can be most challenging. And try not to worry, this stage will soon be over! A few will need another month or two to complete the process. Remember, no two puppies are the same. That puppy fluffiness will have gone. For many puppies, five months is an awkward, gangly time. A five month old puppy may have shed the last of his soft puppy lines and be looking quite skinny. By the end of this month most puppies will have finished teething but an urge to chew may continue for another few months in some breeds, Labradors included. Some female dogs will have their first season during this month. But, for many, it will be another three or four months before this happens. This is a major milestone for your puppy. He is now looking very much like an adult Labrador. Still a Puppy Because he looks quite grown up, people expect a lot of their 6 month old puppy. But inside, he is still very much a puppy. The beginnings of adolescence and with it an increasing independence of spirit can bring its challenges, but also a whole lot of fun.

They also need fiber to promote digestion and bowel movement and clean water to help with bodily functions. For large dog breed only: Foods specially formulated for German Shepherd puppies: Veterinarian and pet advisor Dr. Choose a dog food that is specially formulated for German Shepherds puppies or large breed puppies can ensure your pups are getting the nutritional requirements at every stage of their growth. The opposite side is giving your pup the wrong food that may lead to serious growth and digestive problems. Things to consider before choosing dog food for German Shepherds puppies 1. Their growth Puppies may need different nutrients at different stages depending on their growth rate. For instance, a puppy in the weaning stage between three to four weeks will need more antioxidants which are found in foods containing Vitamin C and E. In contrast, a teething puppy will need wet dog food which is easily digestible food on its tummy to minimize intestinal upset. For instance, a younger puppy may have difficulty eating larger food pieces than an older puppy. Teething If your dog is teething, which starts at around three weeks, you may want to consider food that contains calcium like dairy and bone broth for strong and healthy teeth. On the other hand, if the dog has teething problems, wet food may be a better option than dry food until they recover. Alternatively, you add wet canned food to their kibble to make it soft and palatable. The body weight An underweight puppy has different dietary requirements from an overweight puppy. You do not want to underfeed or overfeed your puppy. Activity Level Puppies that are extremely active require foods high in carbohydrates to keep up their energy levels. If your dog is not as active, you want to keep the carbs down to avoid obesity. With all the many dry foods out on the market, it can be hard to choose the healthiest for your pups. Step 1. The Association of American Feed Control Officials developed nutrient profiles to establish minimum and some maximum nutrient concentrations for dogs and cats. These profiles are updated when new findings from research in pet nutrition become available. They provide practical guidance for pet food manufacturers. Adult Maintenance: Dog foods formulated for adult maintenance have the nutrients adult dogs need. Dogs over the age of one are considered adults, except for some large and giant breeds who do not fully mature until age two. You may see variations of these nutrient profiles on dog food packaging. Step 2. Read the food label The label is the most important thing you should check when deciding which puppy food to pick. Here are the 3 things you would like to read on the packaging: a. List of ingredients The list of ingredients should have the main ingredient as the first ingredient then followed by the rest according to their percentage. For instance, in the label below the first five ingredients, are chicken as the main ingredient, ground whole grain corn, chicken by-product meal, ground whole grain sorghum, corn gluten meal and dried plain beet pulp. Feeding guidelines This will show you how much food and how many times you should feed your puppy. Watch this video if you want to better understand the wording on a dog food packaging means: Step 3. Are there any claims of pups reacting to the food? Do the users recommend or warn against the food? Of course, you want to go with what the majority of the reviewers say. You can also check dogadvisor. Step 4. The vet is in a better place to advise on what type of food to go for or what ingredients to avoid. Bishop hails from the streets of the south, where he was trying to make it on his own and chasing the wrong type of dames. However, his life took a turn when he ended up in a scary place called "The Shelter. Bishop weighs around 55 pounds, and he wants the ladies to know that it's all muscle. But don't let his muscles fool you, he's as sweet as sugar and listens better than most men. He has a mix of boxer, lab, and pitbull in him, but his handsome looks mostly come from his pitbull side. And yes, the ladies love his guns! Unfortunately, Bishop's previous foster home had cats, and they didn't get along well. So, he's currently back in boarding, where he enjoys the company of other dogs and a kind lady who takes him for walks and plays ball with him. Bishop absolutely loves his toys and chasing balls. He can get a bit "mouthy" when teased with toys, but he redirects nicely. He enjoys going for walks, but if he spots a bird, rabbit, or squirrel, he's off like Richard Simmons in a workout video. However, he responds well to correction. Bishop is a goofball who doesn't take much seriously, except for treats. Treats are serious business to him, and he'll do just about anything for one. He loves peanut butter in his kabobs but avoids rawhide to maintain his playboy figure. With his big smile and awesome personality, Bishop hopes to find his forever home. He's fully vetted, which means he's had his shots and is neutered. He is currently undergoing treatment for heartworms using a method called Slow Kill. Bishop is an easygoing, sweet, smart, happy, cuddly, and laid-back dude. He loves exercising, playing catch, and chasing balls, but he also enjoys relaxing and taking naps. He would be more than happy to lounge around in bed and watch TV with his humans. A perfect day for Bishop would involve the three C's: chasing balls , catch, and chill. He simply wants a best friend, someone to love him and give him the attention he deserves. A house would be preferable to an apartment, but he's open to trying out apartment life if it's a good fit. Bishop is currently in training now and is available for adoption or foster. To learn more about him and start the adoption process, reach outr to us. Wecan provide you with Bishop's portfolio and an application for his forever home. Bishop can't wait to give you wet kisses and steal all your blankets. Welcome to Guilford County Animal Services. However, this beautiful breed is more likely to suffer complications while giving birth than other dogs. Are you preparing to help your Frenchie during the birthing process? If yes, below is everything you need to know about Frenchies and giving birth. Yes, French Bulldogs can give birth naturally, but a natural birthing process is rare for this breed of dogs. Natural birth for pregnant Fnrechies is risky, with frequent complications like puppies getting stuck in the birth canal. Research by the Royal Veterinary College shows that female French Bulldogs are more likely to have a difficult birth and require cesarean surgery to have puppies. A few characteristics make a completely natural birth for Frenchies impossible. This term refers to dogs prone to difficult breathing because of their head shape, short muzzles, and throat. This trait makes a c-section the only safe and viable option for French Bulldogs when whelping. Pelvic Abnormalities The second reason Frenchies cannot give birth naturally is their pelvic abnormalities. Aside from their head shape being too big, Frenchies also have a small pelvis. Without the proper expansion, it is more painful and strenuous for a french bulldog to give birth naturally. The lack of canal expansion also increases the risk of fatalities while whelping. Breeding With plenty of breeding information about French Bulldogs, it is clear this breed came about primarily because of human interference. Not only is giving birth naturally for French Bulldogs difficult, so is getting pregnant. French Bulldog studs are mostly infertile due to low sperm count, which means female dogs need insemination to conceive. If you have a French Bulldog and are considering breeding, you should know that it is not easy, especially for amateur breeders. Breeding through insemination requires a lot of work and is expensive. Humans still breed Frenchies, knowing their bodies are too small to handle safe natural delivery. Possible Complications With Natural Births The chances of your Frenchie having a difficult birth is higher than other dogs. There are various conditions breeders, and dog owners should consider before delivering Frenchie puppies naturally. These include: Puppy Getting Stuck: the worst thing to happen when a Frenchie is whelping is for the puppy to get stuck on its way out into the world. Anasarca refers to extreme swelling right before giving birth and is common in Frenchies. Frenchies are more likely to suffer from Anasarca when giving birth due to their small body proportions. A belly full of puppies can cause breathing problems due to their small size. Dystocia: This condition is similar to when the puppy gets stuck, and a vet needs to help get it out. Dystocia is a complication that requires a vet or someone with experience whelping puppies to ensure safe delivery. It is much safer. Natural birth can endanger the lives of the mother and her puppies. When it comes to Frenchies giving birth, a C-section has many more benefits. If you are planning to go the c-section route, there is a lot you need to do, from scheduling the c-section to having your vet on speed dial in case of emergencies. Aside from assurance from the veterinarian of a safe birth, here are other reasons why you should consider a c-section for your Frenchie: Safe delivery: One thing you can be sure of is that your Frenchie will safely deliver her pups through a c-section. Despite some risks during surgery, this is a safer alternative for breeders to prevent stillbirths or abortions. With a vet checking up on your Frenchie, you can help prevent infections as well. Frenchies Uterus stays strong: Labour for French Bulldogs is stressful to their mind and body. Giving birth to a litter of puppies not only risks their health but can also prevent them from having a healthy pregnancy later on in her life. Less stress: Frenchies can undergo excessive stress while giving birth naturally. Pregnancy is already tricky for French Bulldogs because of their small body. If she naturally gives birth to two or more puppies, Her body and mind will be weak and exhausted after the delivery process. The stress on her body can mean longer after-care for the mum and possible health complications, not to mention caring for her newborn puppies. Risks With C-sections The C-section process for French Bulldogs involves prepping your Frenchie for surgery by putting her under anaesthesia because it is an invasive surgery. Although a c-section is a safer option for pregnant French Bulldogs, it also has its risks. Breathing Problems: Frenchies are prone to breathing problems because they are brachycephalic. Most dogs are put under anaesthesia while undergoing surgery which, combined with their flat face, can cause breathing issues. Breathing issues are why they need plenty of oxygen while under anaesthesia. Even experienced vets have a hard time knowing how much oxygen they are getting because they can no longer breathe on their own. Choking on Vomit: This is a common problem when a Frenchie gives birth. It is even worse with a brachycephalic dog breed like a French Bulldog that suffers from breathing problems. Unlike other dogs, Frenchies can choke on their vomit. A vet needs to step in to prevent choking, which can be fatal. First and foremost, make sure you have your vet on speed dial. Here are some telltale signs to look out for that could mean your French Bulldog is going into labour: Frenchies exhibit nesting behaviour by looking for a safe place to bring their pups into the world. It can start a week before the due date but occur more frequently on the day of or before delivery. Most pregnant dogs might stop eating days to the due date. Your Frenchie might also experience large bowel movements due to the pressure from the pups moving into position as they prepare for birth. Two consecutive drops in their body temperature most likely mean that labour will start within 24hours. Your Frenchie is shaking and trembling. Once the labour starts, your Frenchie will be trembling and lying down so that they can begin to push their pups out. After labour, you will need to clean the pups, cut their umbilical cords and clean the area where they gave birth. If the natural delivery is successful, you will have healthy French Bulldog puppies in your hands. With health risks like dystocia and the puppies getting stuck in the birth canal, it is usually much safer to schedule a c-section. Having a vet around for the whelping process ensures the safety of both your Frenchie and her pups, and while c-sections may expensive, they are often necessary to ensure the safety of your dog and her pups. Before the big day, take some time to familiarize yourself with the signs of labour, create a safe and comfortable environment, and gather necessary supplies. With the right preparation and understanding, you can ensure the health and safety of the puppies and their mother. What is French Bulldog Labour? French Bulldog labour is the process of giving birth to a litter of puppies. It is also a good idea to have the necessary supplies on hand and to understand the stages of labour and your role in the birthing process. In the early stages, the dog may display restlessness, panting, shivering, weakness, and loss of appetite. These signs may come and go in the days leading up to active labour. As the dog enters active labour, their breath becomes more laboured and they may vomit, shake and become more vocal. You may also notice that the dog is having contractions as their abdomen will become rock-hard with each contraction. If you stay calm and collected, your dog will be too. You can help the delivery progress by providing a warm and comfortable area for your dog to give birth, as well as have all the necessary supplies ready. Make sure to have a veterinarian on speed dial, in case of any medical emergencies. Preparing for the Big Day Preparing for the birthing of your French Bulldog can be a daunting process. It is important to remember that taking the right steps can make the experience go a lot smoother. First and foremost, create a safe and comfortable birthing area for the mother-to-be. This should be a quiet and private space that is both warm and easily accessible. It is also crucial to understand the process of labour so you can anticipate what is coming next. Gather all the necessary supplies ahead of time, such as blankets and towels, and have them close by. Be aware of all the signs of labour, such as decreased food and water intake and restlessness, so you can be prepared. When the big day arrives, it is important to stay calm and patient. Early labour signs may include contractions and a decrease in activity, so be on the lookout for these. Active labour signs will include an increase in panting and pushing. During the birthing process, you may need to assist the mother-to-be. This could include helping to position the puppies for delivery and clearing away any afterbirth. It is essential to prepare in advance and be aware of the process of labour. The more knowledge and understanding you have, the less stress and worry you will experience on the big day. With the right preparation, your French Bulldog will be in the best hands possible. Start by setting up a quiet, isolated area away from other pets and children. Place a blanket or bedding on the floor, as this will provide cushioning and extra comfort for your dog during her contractions. You should also make sure that the area is warm and well-ventilated. Keep the windows open slightly, as this will help your dog to feel more relaxed and help her to move around more easily. Make sure that the area is clean and free from any sharp objects, as this could cause injury to your dog during labour. If possible, have a few toys nearby to provide comfort and distraction during labour. Understanding the Process of Labour Having a basic understanding of the birthing process of a French Bulldog will help you prepare for the big day and make it a positive experience. Labour typically occurs in three stages: early labour, active labour and the final delivery. Active labour is when the contractions begin and the mother can start to push out the puppies. During the delivery stage, the puppies are born. It is important to make sure that your French Bulldog is comfortable and relaxed during the birthing process. Ensure the room is warm and quiet, and that the atmosphere is free from stress and loud noises that could startle the mother. Be prepared with a few supplies like towels and blankets to help keep the puppies warm and clean up any mess that may occur. Throughout the process it is best to be available for your pup and offer her reassurance and support. Talk to her in a soothing voice and pet her gently. You may need to help her deliver the puppies if she is having difficulty, as well as suctioning or rubbing the puppies to help them take their first breath. After the puppies have been born, clean them and assess their health. Preparing the Necessary Supplies Before your French Bulldog goes into labour, you should gather the necessary supplies, such as a whelping box or a warm, enclosed space, blankets, puppy pads, a bulb syringe, scissors, and a thermometer. Ensure that you have plenty of towels and that you have a heating pad to provide your pup with warmth. You may want to have some pet-safe cleaning products on hand, such as a pet-safe disinfectant, for post-labour clean up. It is also important to have a source of food and water available for your pup during labour. Have a bowl of clean, fresh water nearby, as well as food that is easy to digest and high in protein in case your pup needs a quick meal. It is a good idea to have some treats on hand to offer her after she gives birth. This will help her to stay calm and relaxed during the entire process. Before your pup goes into labour, it is important to call your vet and make sure they are available in case of an emergency. Having this information ready beforehand will ensure that you are prepared for any potential issues that may arise during the birthing process. Make sure you are well-educated on the birthing process and have all the necessary supplies on hand. Once in active labour, you will likely observe your French Bulldog pushing and straining, possibly even vocalising. Look out for your pup panting more than usual or being more clingy than normal, as these are both signs that labour is starting. The nipples may become slightly swollen and there may be slight discharge from them. Active Labour Signs Once active labour starts, it will become much more evident. The mother will start to pace and pant more heavily, and her cervix will dilate. The mother will also begin to push, which will be accompanied by grunts and loud breathing. Her contractions will become stronger and more frequent, and her water may break. Make sure to be prepared with supplies in case the mother needs help, such as lubricant, towels and a heating pad. Be sure to note the times when the mother begins active labour, as well as any other signs that you observe. This information can be helpful to your vet if they are needed. The Stages of Labour French Bulldog labour usually consists of three stages: early labour, active labour, and the delivery of puppies. During early labour, Frenchies may show signs of restlessness or become more clingy and vocal. They may also pant, pace, and shiver. As labour progresses, these signs will become more frequent and intense. During active labour, the French Bulldog will usually take on a nesting behavior and begin the process of pushing out the puppies. You may also notice visible contractions of the stomach and she will likely be very vocal and restless. It is important to stay calm and supportive during the labour process. You should provide a quiet, safe, and comfortable environment for the Frenchie and monitor her closely to make sure she is not in distress. If you are unsure as to what is happening, it is best to contact your vet for advice. Being too intrusive during the labour process can cause fear and anxiety in the dog, which can ultimately prolong the process. It is also important to have the necessary materials on hand before the labour process begins. This should include items such as a heating pad, clean towels, scissors, and veterinary contact information. Be prepared to act quickly if the mother has trouble delivering the puppies or if she is losing too much blood. You should also be sure to have a warm place for the puppies to rest after the delivery. All of these steps will help ensure that your French Bulldog and her puppies have a safe and successful birth. The Role of the Owner As the owner of a French Bulldog about to give birth, you play an important role in the birthing process. It is essential that you remain with your pup throughout the process. You should have a good understanding of what to expect and the signs of labour, as well as necessary supplies prepared for the big day. Be sure to provide a safe and comfortable environment for your pup and be prepared to intervene if necessary. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the stages of labour and to understand the role of the owner. Make sure you have a plan of action if there are any complications and be prepared to assist your pup through the birthing process. Ensure that you are prepared to clean, assess, and care for the puppies and mother post-labour. Immediately clean the puppies off with a warm, damp cloth and stimulate them if needed in order to help them breathe. Make sure to keep the litter away from any drafts and ensure that the mother dog has plenty of clean bedding. To monitor the health of the puppies, check their color, temperature and breathing rate. If any of the puppies appear to be struggling, contact your veterinarian immediately. Give her a warm bed away from any drafts and allow her plenty of time to rest. She may not be interested in eating or drinking, so you may have to syringe feed her during this time. Make sure to keep her area clean and watch for any signs of infection in the birthing area. If you have any concerns, again, contact your veterinarian immediately. Cleaning and Caring for the Puppies Once your French Bulldog has given birth, you should immediately tend to the puppies, ensuring they are all in good health. Start by cleaning and drying the puppies to remove any fluid or dirt left over from the birthing process. Make sure the puppies are warm and comfortable and that they have a safe place to sleep. You should also take care to feed them and provide them with plenty of fluids. You can feed them with bottle-feeding or by hand. If there are any issues, you can contact your veterinarian for advice. You should also pay close attention to the mother. Make sure she is comfortable, clean and relaxed. Give her plenty of food and water and provide her with a place to rest. Watch for any signs of infection or other health issues and contact your veterinarian if there are any concerns. As the puppies grow, make sure to provide them with plenty of social interaction and playtime to ensure they develop properly. The first step is to check their colour. Their colour should darken slightly over a few days, but if it changes to blue or yellow, this is a sign of poor health. You should also check their size; they should be the same size as each other, and you should check their breathing. Check their reflexes. If you tickle the soles of their paws, they should curl their toes in reflex. Make sure their eyes open and close properly and that they have enough energy to crawl around. All of these things indicate that the puppies are healthy and doing fine. Post-Labour Care for the Mother After the birth of her puppies, your French Bulldog mom needs some extra special care. Make sure she is still getting plenty of rest and nutrition to help her recover, and keep her in a quiet and calm environment. If mom does seem to be in distress or not attending to her puppies, she should be taken to the vet for a check-up. Post-labour care is an important step in ensuring your Frenchie and her puppies have a healthy transition into adulthood. Make sure to keep a close eye on both of them and provide any medical attention they may need. With some extra love and care, your Frenchie and her puppies will be happy and healthy in no time! However, the duration of the pregnancy may vary depending on the individual dog. It is important to keep track of the due date and consult a veterinarian if necessary. There are different methods available to determine whether your French Bulldog is pregnant or not. Some of these options include: Ultrasound Ultrasound technology uses sound waves to create images of the developing puppies inside the mother's womb. This non-invasive procedure can be done as early as 28 days after mating and provides accurate results. During the ultrasound, the veterinarian will examine the uterus for the presence of gestational sacs, which indicates the pregnancy. They will also be able to count the number of puppies and assess their overall health. Relaxin Hormone Test A relaxin hormone test is designed to detect the presence of the hormone relaxin, which is only produced in pregnant female dogs. By analysing a blood or urine sample, a veterinarian can determine if your French Bulldog is indeed pregnant. The relaxin hormone test is highly accurate and can provide reliable results as early as three weeks after conception. X-Ray Scan An X-ray scan can detect any foetal skeletons in the mother's uterus, providing a clear indication of pregnancy. The radiography method is the most renowned choice. It's a reliable and straightforward way to find out the good news and even provides an accurate count of how many little ones your pet is carrying. Palpation Palpation is a process in which a veterinarian uses their hands to feel for the presence of developing puppies in the mother's uterus. This method is usually done around day after mating, and it is important to have it done by a professional to avoid causing harm to the mother or her puppies. During the procedure, the vet will gently press on the mother's abdomen and feel for the presence of small lumps or bumps, which are the developing puppies. Signs of pregnancy in French Bulldogs It can be challenging to detect pregnancy in French Bulldogs during the early stages. However, some pregnancy symptoms to look out for include: Decreased activity level If your French bulldog seems lethargic and spends most of the day sleeping, it's likely that there's an underlying health problem. It's crucial to take your furry friend to the vet for a check-up. It's not uncommon for X-rays to reveal that your French bulldog is pregnant, so brace yourself for that possibility. Remember, taking care of your pet's health is of utmost importance! An increase in appetite A clear indication of a pregnant dog is a noticeable shift in eating habits. A pregnant French Bulldog will consume two to three times more food than she typically would, guaranteeing that her body has the necessary fuel to sustain itself and nurture the pups until they are born healthy and strong. Seeking the advice of a veterinarian is highly recommended if you suspect pregnancy in your furry friend. An experienced vet can determine whether your Frenchie is indeed pregnant and help you plan for the arrival of the puppies. Vomiting or morning sickness Did you know that French bulldogs also experience morning sickness during pregnancy, just like us humans? It generally starts around three weeks after conception and can cause them to feel nauseous or even vomit. However, don't worry, as this usually only lasts for a brief period of time, usually just a few days. Coloured discharge It's worth noting that if your bulldog is experiencing a light pink discharge, it could be a sign of pregnancy! This discharge tends to occur during the second or third week of pregnancy. Stages of French Bulldog pregnancy French Bulldog pregnancy can be divided into three stages: Stage 1: Early Pregnancy During the first few weeks of pregnancy, there may not be any visible signs. However, the body starts to prepare for the growth and development of the puppies. The mother's uterus expands, and the puppies' organs begin to form. Stage 2: Mid-Pregnancy Around week 4 or 5, the puppies' skeletons start to form, and they become more active. The mother's appetite may increase, and her nipples may become more prominent. It is crucial to provide her with a balanced diet during this stage. Stage 3: Late Pregnancy During the final weeks of pregnancy, the puppies' fur grows, and they gain weight. The mother may start to show signs of nesting behaviour, such as seeking out a comfortable spot to give birth. It is essential to monitor her closely during this stage and prepare for the delivery. French Bulldog prenatal care Prenatal care is essential to ensure a healthy pregnancy and delivery. Regular check-ups with a veterinarian can help detect any potential health issues early on. The vet may recommend vaccinations, deworming, and flea treatments to prevent any infections or parasites. French Bulldog nutrition during pregnancy A balanced diet is crucial during French Bulldog pregnancy. The mother's nutritional needs change as the puppies grow and develop. It is recommended to feed her a high-quality, protein-rich diet that is formulated for pregnant and nursing dogs. Always provide her with access to clean drinking water. In most cases, Frenchies will deliver by C-section, but there will be exceptions to that rule. Do French Bulldogs give birth naturally? There are risks with natural births including the puppies getting stuck in the birth canal. Consult with a veterinary professional for advice on natural births and labor. In this guide I am going to go into more detail on natural births, what the French Bulldog labor and delivery looks like, plus show you a video of a Frenchie delivering their puppies. This same physical trait is also one of the main reasons why natural births are so rare. French Bulldogs have narrow hips and large heads. This means puppies are at risk of getting stuck in the birth canal dystocia. This can lead to very difficult labor, with the possibility of death not just to the puppies, but also the mother. If you are thinking about breeding your Frenchie, please do consult with your vet. They will be able to give you advice on how likely it is that your French Bulldog can give breed and give birth naturally , and then create a pregnancy plan. It will be highly likely that they will recommend you get a C-section booked. Video of a French Bulldog giving birth naturally If you decide to opt for a natural labor you will find this video of a pregnant French bulldog giving birth really fascinating. You will also need to clean the area up with paper towels. After labor, your Frenchie will clean the puppies, and they should eventually start to feed from her. A healthy litter of Frenchies who are starting to feed from their mother a few weeks after labor. Do I recommend your French Bulldog giving birth naturally? I am not a breeder and I am not a vet. In fact, I have ethical questions myself over Frenchie breeding and how these dogs have developed over the years. According to the Royal Veterinary College view website Frenchies are almost 16 times likely to have a difficult pregnancy and natural birth than other dogs. As a result, French Bulldogs are 2. Many of these will have to be emergency operations when an owner opted for a natural French Bulldog birth. The potential health complications and risks are something that you should consider seriously. In addition to French Bulldogs, other pure breeds, such as Boston terriers , chihuahuas and pugs, are also at risk of suffering birthing problems. Compared to crossbred female dogs, Boston terriers are .All dogs are different and so the time it takes a Frenchie to give birth will vary drastically. Having spoken with our local vet, he said the majority of dogs will give birth from the point the puppies start to deliver between 20 minutes and a couple of hours. In the video of a French Bulldog birth I show on this page, the entire delivery took around 10 minutes. However, I would imagine this is quite a rare scenario given how difficult French Bulldog labor can be. Do I recommend you proceed with a natural birth? No, but then I am not a breeder myself, but can only go on the guidelines I have seen published by professional vets. But there is another reason why these dogs are called man-made dogs. These dogs were bred specifically for humans and they cannot continue their life without human preference. The reason behind this is because of their body structure and their sensitive nature. French bulldogs are also sensitive during their pregnancy because they are bred to be working dogs. They are known for being very protective of their puppies, and during their early stages of development, they are especially vulnerable to physical and emotional stress. This can lead to problems for the dog during their pregnancy, including contractions that are difficult to control, difficulty breathing, and even premature delivery. While some Frenchie puppies do well during delivery, others may get stuck and require help from a vet. What Are the Signs of French bulldog getting into Labor? When a dog is giving birth, there are many things you should know about it. This includes understanding the process of childbirth, knowing what to do if your dog is having difficulties, and being prepared for any possible problems. French bulldogs are notorious for giving birth with difficulty, but this behavior is not always indicative of labor. Some common signs that a French bulldog is in labor include changes in breathing patterns and a heightened sense of urgency. If you notice any of these behaviors, take your dog to the vet as soon as possible! Different complications occur during the natural process and you must know about them. Here are some common problems that you should be prepared for Anasarca Anasarca is a term used in French bulldogs to describe the swelling in the body just before giving birth. When a French bulldog is with puppies his body is big in terms of proportion and swelling makes it even bigger. When puppies are about to be born, they are filled with air and fluid. Swelling can form in these fluids and air. Some of the problems that can occur during birth with swelling include an increase in heart rate, breathing, and tiredness. This makes it difficult for the dog to eat and drink. Dystocia Dystocia is a condition in French bulldogs that can occur during delivery. It is a medical emergency that often results in the dog being born prematurely or with major defects. When a French bulldog goes through a c-section she needs a lot of time to recover. A Frenchie can go through a maximum of two to three c-sections in her life. If you want to keep the mom Frenchie in good health it would be best to pass one cycle and gives time to mom to recover. If your French bulldog recovers well from this process she will behave well in the next pregnancy. It will be really helpful if you give your Frenchie a nice comfy bed like house for Frenchie to take rest. A Frenchie can give birth to a maximum of 4 puppies in a litter. The number of puppies also affects the size of all puppies. If the size of a few puppies is large it will affect the development of other puppies. Conclusion There is not enough scientific evidence to support the claims that French bulldogs can give birth naturally, but there is enough anecdotal evidence to suggest that this may be possible. If you are thinking of getting a French bulldog pregnant, please do your research before that. A vet can give you the best advice for your pup. All things considered, French Bulldogs do often have trouble giving birth naturally. Purebred French Bulldogs are very specific and carefully bred, making them — essentially — a manmade dog breed. This is not a dog breed that ever could have existed without human interference. A fairly sensitive breed, French Bulldogs are commonly thought to have a lot of difficulties throughout pregnancy as well as in delivering puppies. Due to the physical anatomy, French Bulldogs have a narrow birth canal. This means that delivering puppies through this birth canal is very challenging, to begin with. The labor process for French Bulldogs is often long and, well, laborious. If your Frenchie does have a natural labor, you can settle in for a long day. Signs of labor to watch for include a decrease in temperature as well as obvious discomfort. This includes scratching or digging her nest and panting and general restlessness as her body readies itself to deliver. Possible complications giving birth naturally There are quite a few possible complications to know about when it comes to your French Bulldog doing so naturally. These are listed below for you to know and prepare for. Anasarca swelling require c-section This is especially common in Frenchies, which are small dogs in terms of their body proportions with a belly full of puppies! This is when there is a serious and severe swelling directly before giving birth. This can cause all sorts of complications with breathing and heart rate and also can be fatal to both mom and puppies. The puppy gets stuck Even just the sound of that is terrifying! But, a puppy getting stuck in a narrow birth canal is actually very common with French Bulldogs. This is happening if you not that she has been actively pushing for minutes with no obvious signs of delivery. Dystocia Similarly to getting stuck, this means that the puppy requires external support to help it gain access to the living world. This is typically a vet or someone experienced in births to help guide the puppy into the world safely. You should have a vet on-call or, even better, on-site to make sure everything goes smoothly. Do Frenchies have to have C sections? They are physically capable of giving birth naturally. That being said, natural birth is often dangerous and potentially fatal to both mom and pups. When it comes to French Bulldogs giving birth, a c-section has many advantages. Even if you get an ultrasound that says she has only 1 puppy, you may actually find out that you have 2 puppies. You guessed it. She effectively aborts her last puppy and this can lead to her much later passing a stillborn puppy at best, and dealing with a nasty and heartbreaking infection at worst. If you are planning on having her deliver later litters of puppies, you may find that giving birth to a litter naturally prevents her from becoming safely pregnant or having a healthy pregnancy later. Less stress on Mom Again, labor is very challenging on her body. If she pushes out 2 or 3 puppies, she is well past exhausted and can be severely weakened for a long time after delivering her puppies. This means that you will need to care for her puppies and deal with a potentially sick and struggling mama, too! Mom is anesthetized The first thing after she is prepped for surgery shaved around her tummy is to put her under anaesthesia. Her uterus is cut open and the vet removes the puppies A vet makes an incision in her uterus and beings to remove the puppies in their gestational sacs, leaving them intact if at all possible just like they would be in case of natural birth. The puppies are cleaned and stimulated Vet assistants will remove the gestational sacs and clean the puppies off. They then have to imitate a momma by carefully stimulating a puppy. This stimulation is required to get them to breathe and officially join the world of the living! The goal of a c-section, particularly with a potentially at-risk Frenchie more on that later , is to keep it as short as possible to minimize the time that she needs to be under the anaesthesia. Possible complications in a c-section Just like giving birth naturally, a cesarean section can also have its own complications that you should be aware of. While they are, of course, much less than natural birth and they are watched over by an experienced vet and their supplies, they are something to be aware of. Lack of oxygen As you may already know, French Bulldogs are brachycephalic. This flat face can lead them to breathing issues and this is no better exemplified than in a surgery where she is put under anaesthesia. Since oxygen is crucial for making sure that she can breathe while under she is no longer able to voluntarily do so , it can be challenging for even experienced vets to make sure she is getting enough oxygen. Choking on vomit Vomit is a common problem when a dog is under anaesthesia and with a dog who has breathing issues, this can be especially dangerous. They will often suffocate on their vomit much faster than an average dog, so stepping in and clearing it completely, immediately, is crucial. Conclusion There is a lot to know about French Bulldogs and giving birth. Whether you opt for a natural birth or for the safer c-section, this will help guide you in making the right choice for your Frenchie and her short- and long-term health.

Overall, Labradoodles are wonderful dogs that make great companions for people of all ages. If you are looking for a friendly, intelligent, and hypoallergenic dog, a Labradoodle may be a good choice for you. Labradoodle History Wally Conron, who was in charge of the breeding program for the Royal Guide Dogs Association of Australia, purposefully crossbred a Standard Poodle and Labrador Retriever in to develop the Labradoodle as a hypoallergenic guide dog. The first cross produced Sultan, a dog with a hypoallergenic coat, aptitude, intelligence, and personality suitable for being an effective guide dog. Sultan worked successfully with a woman in Hawaii. Other breeders saw the merit of crossing these two breeds, and the Labradoodle quickly rose in popularity like its Labrador Retriever parent. These dogs are often produced by crossing a Labrador Retriever with a Poodle, but multigenerational breeding has begun in an attempt to produce a viable and recognizable breed. The Australian Labradoodle Association and the International Australian Labradoodle Association are taking steps to move this designer breed into registered breed status in the next few years. These groups have made great efforts to bring breeders together so that they are working to achieve the same standards through multigenerational breeding. Labradoodle Size The Labradoodle comes in three size variations, depending on the size of the Poodle used for the first-generation breeding. The three sizes are Standard, Medium, and Miniature. The Standard Labradoodle should be 22 to 24 inches in height for a male and 21 to 23 inches in height for a female, while both can range in weight from 50 to 65 pounds. The Medium Labradoodle should be 18 to 20 inches high for a male and 17 to 19 inches high for a female, with both weighing from 30 to 45 pounds. The average size for a Miniature Labradoodle is between 14 to 16 inches and 15 to 25 pounds. All of that said, there is a lot of variation in Labradoodle sizes. Some can be smaller or larger than expected. Labradoodle Personality The Labradoodle is an intelligent dog who can make the ideal family pet if properly trained. They are friendly and accept and treat everyone like their best friend. They can be gentle, but they can also be joyful, showing their happiness through exuberant jumping and playing. They also tend to be easygoing, since the Labradoodle was bred not to be aggressive. Temperament is affected by a number of factors, including heredity, training, and socialization. Puppies with nice temperaments are curious and playful, willing to approach people and be held by them. Meeting siblings, parents, or other relatives of the dog is also helpful for evaluating what a puppy will be like when they grow up. Socialization helps ensure that your Labradoodle puppy grows up to be a well-rounded dog. Enrolling them in a puppy kindergarten class is a great start. Inviting visitors over regularly, and taking them to busy parks, stores that allow dogs, and on leisurely strolls to meet neighbors will also help them polish their social skills. Here are a few conditions to watch out for: Ear Infections: These can plague Labradoodles because of their floppy ears. The ears trap moisture and should be regularly checked. X-ray screening is the most certain way to diagnose the problem. Either way, arthritis can develop as the dog ages. Dogs with hip dysplasia should not be bred. Elbow Dysplasia : Similar to hip dysplasia, this is also a degenerative disease. The disease varies in severity: the dog could simply develop arthritis, or they could become lame. Treatment includes surgery, weight management, medical management, and anti-inflammatory medication. It can cause mild or severe seizures that may show themselves as unusual behavior—such as running frantically as if being chased, staggering, or hiding—or even by falling down, limbs rigid, and losing consciousness. Seizures are frightening to watch, but the long-term prognosis for dogs with idiopathic epilepsy is generally very good. Allergies: Allergies are a common ailment in dogs, and the Labradoodle is no exception. Treatment varies according to the cause and may include dietary restrictions, medications, and environmental changes. Diabetes Mellitus: This is a disorder in which the body cannot regulate blood sugar levels. The dog will lose weight because food is not being used efficiently. Symptoms of diabetes are excessive urination and thirst, increased appetite, and weight loss. Diabetes can be controlled by diet and the administration of insulin. Progressive Retinal Atrophy PRA : This is a family of eye diseases that involves the gradual deterioration of the retina. Early in the disease, affected dogs become night-blind; they lose sight during the day as the disease progresses. Many affected dogs adapt well to their limited or lost vision, as long as their surroundings remain the same. Hypothyroidism : This is a disorder of the thyroid gland. It is treated with medication and diet. They require about 30 to 60 minutes of exercise per day and would do better with a fenced yard in which to expel some energy. Some Labradoodles, especially in the first generation, can require even more exercise. The Labradoodle makes an excellent jogging companion but also needs some time off-leash to burn off steam. The Labradoodle is an intelligent and eager-to-please dog. Training should be easy as long as consistency and positive reinforcement are the methods. Socialize them from puppyhood, since they tend to hurl themselves headlong into canine situations without regard to the feelings of other dogs. This can lead to some problems if the unknown dog is aggressive. Despite their activity levels, a Labradoodle can adjust to living in suburban or city environments and can do well in rural settings. A crate is also a place where they can retreat for a nap. Crate training at a young age will help your Labradoodle accept confinement if they ever needs to be boarded or hospitalized. Never stick your Labradoodle in a crate all day long, however. Labradoodle Feeding Recommended daily amount: 1 to 2. NOTE: How much your adult dog eats depends on their size, age, build, metabolism, and activity level. It almost goes without saying that a highly active dog will need more than a couch potato dog. Keep your Labradoodle in good shape by measuring their food and feeding them twice a day rather than leaving food out all the time. First, look down at them. You should be able to see a waist. Then place your hands on their back, thumbs along the spine, with the fingers spread downward. You should be able to feel but not see their ribs without having to press hard. For more on feeding your Labradoodle, see our guidelines for buying the right food , feeding your puppy , and feeding your adult dog. Labradoodle Coat Color And Grooming Although a Labradoodle can have one of a range of coat types, the desired length is four to six inches. They have a single coat with hair ranging from straight to loose curls. There are three types of texture: The Hair coat, which is similar to fur in shedding breeds, is the least popular. Hair coats shed and usually have a normal doggy odor. This coat is seen in first generations, although breeders try to avoid it. The Fleece coat has a silky texture often described as an Angora goat texture. This coat ranges from straight to wavy. Labradoodles are considered to be non- to low shedders, especially those with a Fleece or Wool coat. Hair coats tend to shed just as they do in other breeds, ranging from very low to average shedding. The Labradoodle comes in a wide variety of colors. They can also have parti-colored coats, which consist of brindles, phantom, patched, or sable colors. Grooming requirements vary depending on the length and type of coat the dog has. Generally speaking, you can expect to brush a Labradoodle about once or twice per week. Some can be clipped or trimmed every six to eight weeks to keep the coat easy to maintain. Like Labs, Labradoodles can be prone to ear infections, so take a little extra time caring for their ears. Dry and clean them after a swim, and check them once a week for dirt, redness, or a bad odor that can indicate an infection. Then wipe them out weekly with a cotton ball dampened with gentle, pH-balanced ear cleaner to prevent problems. Daily brushing is even better if you want to prevent gum disease and bad breath. Dog toenails have blood vessels in them, and if you cut too far you can cause bleeding—and your dog may not cooperate the next time they see the nail clippers come out. Handle their paws frequently—dogs are touchy about their feet—and look inside their mouth. As you groom, check for sores, rashes, or signs of infection such as redness, tenderness, or inflammation on the skin, in the nose, mouth, and eyes, and on the feet. Eyes should be clear, with no redness or discharge. Your careful weekly exam will help you spot potential health problems early. Labradoodle Children And Other Pets The Labradoodle does well with children and can be an affectionate and gentle companion for any child. They can also be exuberant and might knock down smaller children, but they will love them with all their heart. As with every breed, you should always teach children how to approach and touch dogs, and always supervise any interactions between dogs and young children to prevent any biting or ear or tail pulling on the part of either party. No dog, no matter how friendly, should ever be left unsupervised with a child. Labradoodles usually get along well with other dogs and pets. Like most dogs, they need training and socialization for optimum success at living with and visiting other animals. Labradoodle Rescue Groups Labradoodles are often brought home without any clear understanding of what goes into owning one. Many end up in the care of shelters or rescues because of this. It may be hard to find a breed-specific rescue for Labradoodles because they are a mixed breed. However, you may want to try Labrador Retriever or Poodle breed-specific rescues, as they often care for mixes, as well. Reputable breeders are committed to breeding healthy, well-socialized puppies that will make great companions. They will screen their breeding stock for health problems, socialize their puppies from a young age, and provide you with lifetime support. On the other hand, backyard breeders are more interested in making a profit than in producing healthy, well-adjusted dogs. They may not screen their breeding stock for health problems, and they may not socialize their puppies properly. As a result, puppies from backyard breeders are more likely to have both health and behavioral issues. More Info For You. He does not have the gene to make a rose-nosed puppy. Your Pug may cost much more if it comes from a champion line and is show quality. When it comes to selecting canines for a family, puppy mills and backyard breeders should never be chosen. Puppy mills are professional breeding facilities that mass-produce puppies for sale in pet shops, advertisements, or on the web. Animals die of malnutrition or hunger due to insufficient or unclean food and water. Besides, kittens and pups are taken from their moms at such a young age, and many of them have major behavioral issues as a result. Further, there is little or no veterinary attention to the sick or dying animals. Profit is also an incentive for breeders of the backyard. Backyard breeders might appear to be your friendly neighbor next door. In Massachusetts, finding a reputable Pug breeder may be challenging. So, it is a good idea to plan ahead of time so you are not caught off guard when the bills arrive after you have bought all the necessities. Pugs are affectionate, have a cute appearance, are faithful, and have a laid-back attitude. They are a fantastic option for first-time dog owners. They adore being hugged and patted, and if your affections are concentrated on someone else, they may grow envious or offended. Their main downside is the significant clinical issues that result from that beautiful small snout, so make sure you have enough money to handle any future medical expenses. Pugs, which were bred to be lap dogs in the first place, thrive in human companionship. There are a few things to think about if you are thinking about adopting a Pug. The following are some important details about this dog breed. Pugs Shed a Lot Despite their attractive appearance and friendly attitude, Pugs shed a lot. Fawn Pugs have been found to shed substantially more than black Pugs. The reason for this is because fawn Pugs have two coats whereas black Pugs only have one. They Suffer From Many Health Issues Pugs have a variety of health issues that might have a detrimental effect on their well-being. The Pug is a brachycephalic breed, which means it has a small and compressed face and nose. This can lead to breathing difficulties, which is why Pugs snore a lot even while they are awake. Besides, Pugs are prone to skin disorders, respiration problems, vision problems, tail problems, and other health issues as well. They Crave a lot of Attention Pugs adore their owners and want to be with them as often as possible. They were bred for companionship and would be completely content to spend their days curled up on the couch with you. They Are Very Stubborn While each dog is different, it is safe to say that Pugs are stubborn and strong-willed. A Pug will go to tremendous lengths to achieve what they genuinely desire, whether it is meals or affection from their owner. Temperatures that are neither too hot nor too chilly are preferred by them. Ensure that your Pug has a comfy place to sleep and that she does not spend too much time outside during inclement weather. Pugs are excellent pets for families with children since they are usually kind and like playing games with them. They are pleasant to be around and enjoy being cuddled. Because of the shape of their mouth, which prohibits them from biting successfully, they are basically harmless. How Long Do Pugs Live? Knowing how long your fur baby may live is important to a dog owner. This is significant because it will help you estimate the number of years your pet will be there by your side. The average lifespan of a Chinese Pug is between 12 and 15 years. As a result, they are one of the longest-living dog breeds. Male Pugs have a life expectancy of .You can help your Pug live longer by making her happier and healthier. Which part of Massachusetts State are you from? Have I mentioned the area you are from? A few other factors that might influence the price are: whether the pup is male or female, whether it is a show-quality dog or not, and whether it has been spayed or neutered. How many litters do you have per year? Do you keep in touch with your puppy buyers after the sale? Are your puppies raised in a healthy environment? They should also be willing to provide references from previous buyers. Visit Your Massachusetts Pug Breeder in Person It is also important to visit the breeder in person before you buy a puppy. Some unethical breeders may seem like they are reputable and may even have websites or kennels. However, there are some telltale signs that can help you spot an unethical Pug breeder. There are many good breeders out there, and by being aware of the signs of an unethical one, you can avoid getting scammed. Be Wary of Scammers When Buying A Pug As with any breed of dog, there are scammers out there who are trying to make a quick buck by selling sick, malnourished puppies. Some common health problems that can occur in pugs include hip dysplasia, eye problems, and allergies. Health problems are common in most breeds of dogs, and the pug is no exception. Your Pug will need a place to sleep and feel safe. Buy food and water dishes and a food bowl stand. Pugs like to eat, so make sure you have enough food for them. Set up a potty area. Toys can keep your Pug entertained and help them burn off energy, while treats can be used as rewards for good behavior. Schedule a visit to the vet. Your Pug will need to get a check-up and some vaccinations when they first arrive, so make sure you schedule an appointment with your veterinarian as soon as possible. Prepare yourself for lots of love. Pugs are adorable dogs that love spending time with their families. They will quickly become a part of your family and will bring you lots of happiness. Welcome to the world of pugs. Potty Training Your New Pug Puppy One of the most important things you will need to do when you get a new Pug puppy is train them to go to the bathroom outside. Here are a few tips on how to potty train your Pug: Start off by taking your puppy outside every time they eat, drink, or play. This will help them associate going outside with doing their business. Make sure you praise your puppy when they go to the bathroom outside. Positive reinforcement is key in training your dog. This will only make it harder for them to learn where they are supposed to go to the bathroom. Clean up the mess and move on. Be patient and consistent with training your Pug. It may take a little time, but they will eventually learn where to go. By following these tips, you can successfully potty train your new Pug puppy. The breeder will have screened the puppies for genetic health problems and will only sell those that are healthy. The breeder will have given the puppies socialization and training, which will help them adjust better to their new home. The breeder will offer support after you take your puppy home. All of their Pugs are fed a healthy diet of quality food and vitamins and have the freedom to play with lots of toys. When you purchase a pup from pug-puppy. They love their dogs and show commitment to the betterment of the breed in everything they do. But how can you spot reputable breeders when you start searching for a Pug puppy? Here are some tips to help you out. A good breeder will… 1. Issue a health guarantee Make sure that your breeder of choice offers a health guarantee. A reputable Pug breeder will write up a binding health guarantee for all of their puppies. The guarantee protects you against any genetic defects or diseases. It shows that the breeder is confident that their puppies are bred according to best practices. This means if you can no longer look after your pup for some reason, you will be expected to return the puppy to the breeder rather than taking them to a shelter. Provide standard health clearances Your breeder should have full health clearances for both parent Pugs. Good breeders often provide some early health-check clearances for their pups too, although some health clearances simply cannot be carried on such young pups. Issue a written bill of sale Reputable breeders offer written bills of sale to all of their new Pug parents. This bill of sale should be signed and will outline all the roles and responsibilities to be taken on by the buyer and seller as part of the transaction. Vaccinate their puppies All puppies should be up to date on their vaccinations before being homed with new families. Your breeder of choice should be able to provide evidence of these vaccinations. Reputable breeders welcome prospective parents into their homes to see the puppies. Follow age guidelines Puppies should never leave the litter before 8 weeks of age. Any breeder offering pups for adoption before this time is not following best practices. In fact, this could be quite damaging for the puppy developmentally. A reputable breeder will keep their pups at home until eight to twelve weeks so that they can be properly socialized and spend that crucial time with their mother and litter-mates. Answer your questions Last, but not least, a reputable breeder will be knowledgeable. In most cases, they will also want to ask you plenty of questions to ensure that their precious pups are going to good homes. We have a strict selection process that takes a variety of factors into account. That way we can ensure that only the best breeders end up on our lists. This way we know that our chosen breeders offer genetically sound and healthy puppies. Health testing shows a commitment to the health and wellbeing of each Pug. Contact information Any breeder that does not offer up their contact information is a big red flag. A reputable breeder will make it easy for you to get in contact with them by providing telephone numbers, email addresses, and they will usually have a well-established website as well. It shows a commitment to breeding best practices. Event participation Breeders who also compete in doggie events are often some of the best. Because these people tend to be dog lovers par excellence. They live and breathe for their Pugs and are proud to show them off in public. They are also more likely to have a high level of breed knowledge — an excellent sign for a breeder. Breed club membership There are lots of breed clubs out there that breeders can register with. These clubs have rules, regulations, and membership fees. If your breeder is registered with the Pug Dog Club of America, this is a great sign showing commitment to the Pug breed. Recognition awards Lastly, we look out for awards! Institutions like the AKC recognize the efforts and achievements of top breeders. The very best will be awarded the AKC recognition of merit award. During this time we recommend getting everything ready before your new arrival rattles through the front door. Your puppy will need: a crate for sleeping and training during the early days quality puppy-grade food a leash and harness plenty of toys You may also wish to purchase a puppy gate if there are areas of your home that you want to keep your Pug away from. This is all about making your home as safe as possible for your new arrival. Make sure anything that could potentially cause harm to your pup is removed. Clear your schedule Having a Pug puppy is a bit like having a human baby. So make sure to clear your schedule and get all of those errands done ahead of time! Once they arrive… 4. Avoid crowds Hold your excitement. That means no crowds. Try to keep the home environment as stress-free as possible so that your puppy can settle in and start to feel part of the family. Crate training is the first step. Lay down a regular routine from the get to and your Pug will be good as gold in no time.
Fortunately, she took to her crate immediately. However, she was still skittish and terrified of people, cars, loud noises, water, and the vacuum cleaner. Goldens typically like the water, but after life in an unprotected cage, Harper had come to fear the water. Luckily, a raincoat helped ease her fear of the rain. It also helped her look a little like the Gorton's fisherman. She crouched down when they initially swarmed her, but after a few minutes she was happily sniffing butts and playing with her new pals. She loved jumping through the snowbanks near the house. Her walkers are super sweet and she loves spending time with them," she says. In fact, she chewed up this shoe right before graduating from her intermediate training class! She's still a bit leery of the water, but she seems to be getting more comfortable with it. Tried to put her to work, but she was pretty useless at anything finance-related. Unfortunately, she didn't qualify for a consulting fee. She is a spunky little thing that has so much personality and love — it's hard to imagine that she was ever destined to end up on a dinner plate," daisyintheair says. And Harper has also made her life more fulfilling and healthy. Regular walks keep me active. It's hard to get upset over little things when this little furball is rolling on the ground or chasing her tail.Having her has resulted in countless physical, mental and emotional benefits for me. Sometimes I really do wonder who rescued whom. The Telegraph reported that dogs were part of the event. Earlier on Tuesday night, the dogs gathered for a mile-long procession from Kennel Field to Guisachan House where the dogs and their owners were met by a piper and delivered a toast to their founding father Lord Tweedmouth. How the golden retriever breed evolved In a note posted to their website , the club said that the dog was originally bred at Guisachan, Glen Affric, near Inverness in by aristocrat Sir Dudley Marjoribanks, also known as Lord Tweedmouth, as a working dog, with great working ability, stamina, power and training abilities. The first litter of golden retrievers was born in to a Tweed water spaniel, a breed now extinct, and yellow flat-coated retriever. It added that over the years, the breed has branched into two distinct "styles" — the heavier built, heavily coated "show" style golden retriever and the lighter built, darker "working" style golden retriever. It is our responsibility to keep both dogs safe and happy. It is not one dog's responsibility to teach another dog 'manners' or what's appropriate and what isn't," she explained. Equally, puppies can be overwhelmed and nervous when arriving at a new home—they need time to settle into their new surroundings. Once we decided to get an Australian Labradoodle, we then set out to find the best breeder we could find. We spent several months trying to find a breeder with not only good reviews, but also one who would understand our needs having a son with autism. We thought we had found a good breeder but they were not responsive and their contract was crazy long with some pretty crazy requirements. Right from the start, Judy was very responsive to ALL our questions. She understood our concerns about getting the right dog for our son. Once we decided to go forward with it, she even let us come visit to get to know our soon-to-be new family member. She has been so responsive to our questions and concerns even after bringing little JoJo home. Her training program has made such a huge difference and has taken away so much of the normal stress of having a new puppy. Thank you Judy. We are so in love with our sweet little JoJo. We elected to do bring our pup home around 12 weeks so he could do the advanced training and it was the right choice. Our pup did amazing in his crate, adjusted quickly and was comfortable going out on a leash to learn his bathroom spot at this new house. He did great with a 18 month old and 5 year old without any nipping. Chris Beck The decision to add a dog into our family was a big one. We took our time researching, with the selection of a breeder being a huge factor. I stumbled upon Judy at Magnolia Labradoodles and was instantly intrigued. I liked that she only had one litter at a time. I knew my puppy would be getting attention and care. I liked that past customers said she was responsive and the experience was personal. My telephone conversation with her was also critical. I had lots of questions and she had answers for all of them and gave me all the time I needed to feel comfortable. I could tell she loved what she did and it was personal to her…not just a business. We opted for the additional training and felt this made the transition home for our dog go smoothly. He did not nip at us, knew his name, how to focus on us, how to sit and was happy in his crate. We had to wait quite a while to bring our dog home, but Judy kept us updated with photos and videos. She even face-timed my children twice so they could see their dog. It was a great experience and worth the wait. I highly recommend Judy and Magnolia Labradoodles. We have always had English Labrador Retrievers, but due to us getting older we wanted something a little smaller but also hardy. Lexi is everything you could ask for: intelligent, kind, loving, good with people and children, loves all dogs, loves to play with our cat, walks and hikes great and the added bonus if the above items are not enough they are absolutely gorgeous!!!! We had an amazing experience with Judy!! Judy was always there to answer all my questions and she still is a year later!! That in itself is an outstanding quality, not to mention the wonderful job Judy does getting them ready for their forever homes. If you are skeptical about doing the 3 week training…DO IT!!! It was well worth it. We put Lexi in her crate the first night and she went right to sleep. I will never forget when we went to pick Lexi up. Judy let us in and there in the living room was this gorgeous, well behaved dog that just sat there until I went over and picked her up. I started crying and as I turned around, so was Judy!! That just showed me the love and compassion she has for raising these outstanding dogs. If after reading this, if you are still unsure, please feel free to contact me. Judy has my contact information. Debbie Stierly Working with Judy was fantastic. Cadbury Harmony and Rhett is as perfect a puppy as you could imagine. From the beginning, Judy helped my daughters face their fear of dogs and see how kind and loving puppies can be. This is absolutely a much better way to ensure success. Judy treats her pups with love and kindness. She dotes on them! When we brought Cadbury home, family and friends could not get over his calm and loving personality. He adjusted immediately, slept well on the first night, and already had learned manners. While it is hard to wait the extra 3 weeks, it is so nice to have a puppy that has learned basic obedience, crate training, and potty training! If you plan to add a puppy to your family and want a dog that will be sweet, obedient, and gentle, look no further! Judy was excellent throughout the process and was responsive, organized, detailed and passionate. Lucy was the smallest in the litter of Harmony and Rhett and needed a lot of extra care just to be able to make it to our home. Judy spent many sleepless nights to make this happen. Lucy is…. She is a kind and gentle puppy with a great spirit for adventure. We are enjoying her everyday! I highly recommend working with Judy if you are looking for a great addition to your family! The puppy that we recently got from Magnolia Australian Doodles was worth the wait and cost for such a lovely little addition to our menagerie. He was introduced to numerous adults, noisy children, other dogs, a cat, sweeper, hour car ride home and multiple other stimuli and he was unfazed. And this was just during the first two days. Not to mention a huge thunder and lightening storm. He is going to one of those special dogs, you talk about. PK Pamela Kratzer Five stars are honestly not enough! Judy made the experience of getting a puppy so easy and stress free. She was always available, and answered my thousands of questions. She sent us updates and photos weekly too! You can tell Judy puts her heart and soul into caring for each litter. Our puppy is almost 3 months old, and we are so happy we chose Magnolia Australian Labradoodles! Our puppy slept the whole first night, and is the most loving and fun puppy ever! Despite the pandemic going on, Judy did her best to socialize the puppies. She sends you home with a complete binder with everything you need to raise your puppy! Duke has been a great addition to our family and I highly recommend Magnolia Australian Labradoodles if you want a caring and knowledgeable breeder!! You guys are truly incredible. Thank you. He really brings a smile to all of us, all the time. I had done a lot of research on the web of this breed. Judy welcomed my questions and answered with obvious knowledge of having done her own research. She was able to answer any question or concern that I may have had. I highly recommend Judy and Magnolia Australian Labradoodle kennel to anyone looking for a beautiful Australian Labradoodle. I would also highly recommend the additional 3 weeks with Judy as she trains and teaches confidence. Ella came to us, confident and well adjusted. She was able to be in her crate all night 9hrs without even a whimper. She was able to sit and layed down on command. She is a lovable, sweet, attentive and is so well adjusted from the minute we brought her home. Without any hesitation, I give all the credit to her first human mommy, Judy Adams of Magnolia Australian Labradoodles. We adore our Little Miss Ella!! Joyce Rusin. The love and caring that Alex and Pam put into the raising of their pups is extraordinary! My family did not anticipate having to search for a puppy; we unexpectedly lost our 16 year old Cockapoo in March. Pam, especially, made this process seamless. She answered emails within a few hours and answered ALL questions thoroughly unlike other breeders. She kept us updated when the puppies arrived and as they grew up. The amount of time and love that Green Mountain gives to each litter is incredible. They are so loved and well cared for and it shows! As a new puppy owner you are also set up for success with all the information and support you are given. We are so happy with out new addition to our family! I would highly recommend Green Mountain Australian Labradoodles! Healthy and perfect size for our family. Pam does it right, returns emails and phone calls the same day. Goes out of her way to accommodate her forever home pet owners. Thank you for Copper! I highly recommend them and their doodles! Bentley is the best puppy I have ever met!
