Many families bring their puppy home at 8 weeks old when they have recently been weaned from breastmilk and are still getting used to eating kibble. Add on top of that the stress from separation anxiety, and its highly likely to result in diarrhea. Separation anxiety is a whole other topic, so very briefly, it is a side effect of being separated from everything your puppy has ever known in his short life. The familiar faces, siblings, mother, sounds, smells, food, and area are all gone in once instant when coming home to his fur-ever family. The stress from this tremendous transition in life can cause many things, including diarrhea, and can even depress the immune system. This is one cause of diarrhea I have seen over many years of breeding and experience with my French Bulldogs. They need a stable, loving environment first and foremost. Another cause of diarrhea can be sudden change in food, eating table scraps, eating rancid food, an intolerance to any specific ingredient, or food poisoning. If you think your French Bulldog might be intolerant allergic to an ingredient, ask your vet for an allergy test. If you are thinking about switching foods, do so slowly to avoid causing diarrhea. Mix the new food into the old food, each day decreasing the amount of old food, and increasing the amount of new food until you are only using the new food. Next likely cause is parasites. Dogs like to lick their behinds, some lick other dogs behinds. Some dogs even eat feces that they find outside. No matter how clean you keep your beloved pet they are most likely carriers of parasites. Giardia a single celled parasite can be found in the water, and even on the grass. It will live for months in moist conditions so all it takes is your Frenchie going on a walk outside, coming home, and licking his paws. Your vet should have your French Bulldog on a regular deworming schedule. I personally deworm once or twice a year preventatively with fenbendazole for five days following my vets recommendation for dosage which depends on weight. Its very important to remember you must follow up with a second treatment in two weeks. This is because many dewomers only kill the live parasite, but not the eggs. Not all dewormers target the same kinds of parasites. The transmitter of tapeworms are fleas. So if your French Bulldog has fleas, treat the fleas at the same time as tapeworm. If you see blood in your dogs poop they are likely infected with coccidia another type of parasite. Your vet can take a poop sample to test for parasites and give you medicine if you are not sure what they might be infected with and what to treat with. I deworm my French Bulldog puppies preventatively with fenbendazole and albon before they come home to their fur-ever family. However, giardia particularly can be resistant to treatment and persist in the right conditions. The right conditions would be including stress, very young or very old age, during pregnancy, active disease or condition which depresses the immune system. I mentioned earlier that separation anxiety can cause so much stress to a newly rehomed puppy that it depresses the immune system. Only tender loving care, and time can help with separation anxiety. However there are other things you can do to strengthen the immune system for example feeding super premium, easy to digest food, and probiotics to help the gut. I also feed my French Bulldogs ground raw pumpkin seeds which are a natural dewormer and help to make the poop solid. Yet another cause of diarrhea can be from a virus. Parvovirus and distemper both cause diarrhea and can be fatal. It is transmitted through contamination with infected feces and can be very difficult to treat in young puppies. Your vet can quickly test for parvo with a poop sample. My puppies come home with a minimum of their first set of vaccinations including parvovirus, distemper, parainfluenza, and adenovirus. That being said, the puppy will still need booster shots so talk to your vet about what vaccines your puppy might be due for. If your French Bulldog continues to have diarrhea despite ruling out anxiety, food related issues, parasites, and virus I would talk to your vet about ordering a lab to check for pancreatitis. A friend of mine ruled this out in his Frenchie. It was an expensive test, but after finishing the meds his dog finally stopped having diarrhea. Also ask your vet for more recommendations, especially if the diarrhea is accompanied with vomiting and other symptoms you need to act fast. Bernedoodles come in a variety of sizes and colors. Color is heavily determined by the Poodle parent and what colors are in its pedigree. Their colors can be pure black, black and white, black and brown or the tri-color look that the Bernese has of brown, sable, brindle, chocolate and phantom. There are typically three types of coat. The curlier the coat the less it will shed. Most Bernedoodles have the wavy type coat that is low- to non-shedding. Straight Coat: Like the Bernese coat, it may have a slight wave to it. This coat will shed, less than a Bernese, but noticeably. It is rare to see a Bernedoodle with a straighter coat, however, the straighter the coat, the more it will shed. This type of coat is minimal- to non-shedding. Curly Coat: This is the most similar to the Poodle coat and should not shed. The curlier the coat, the less it will shed. Since most Bernedoodles shed little, they need to be brushed regularly to prevent matting For lower maintenance, you can have their hair clipped every few months, depending on the desired look. This can be done professionally or you can learn to do it yourself. Brushing your bernedoodle will make shedding less noticeable. Puppies should only be taken to the groomer after it has had its full set of vaccines. They should be taken as soon as you can, to get them use to the groomers and the process of being bathed, ears cleaned and nails clipped, or if you choose to do this yourself. There are no guarantees what type of coat a Bernedoodle will have. Bernedoodles are not fully hypoallergenic but do tend to be allergy-friendly. Most people allergic to the dog dander, usually tend to be fine with a Bernedoodle. However, this is not a guarantee. An F1B does tend to be even more 'allergy friendly'. It really depends on what size the Parents are in its pedigree. We can only estimate weights according to parents size. Females do tend to be smaller than males. These are only ranges and a puppy can be out of the expected range when crossing two different breeds. The Standard Bernedoodle is bs in weight and inches in height. The Mini is lbs in weight and inches in height. The Tiny is lbs and inches in height. Our Bernedoodles are from excellent bloodlines and all Pedigree information traces back to their AKC lineage. Our Dams and Sires have obtained extensive health clearances prior to being bred. These dogs will have a higher success rate for non-shedding, and are recommended for families with allergies. F1 Bernedoodles all have loose wavy coats that are typically minimal to light shedding, while F1B Bernedoodles coats can be loose wavy just like the F1 or curly and there are both coat types within the F1B litter. The F1B Bernedoodle is typically minimal to non-shedding. The coat of a Bernedoodle can vary from straight, loose wavy or curly. An F1 Bernedoodle will have a loose wavy coat, while an F1B Bernedoodle litter has both curly and loose wavy coats within the litter. The coat colors of Bernedoodles can vary based on the color genetics of the parents. We will also have Parti Bernedoodles. Daily walks are a must if you don't have a safely enclosed area for them to run freely. The Bernedoodle can be independent and does great being with family engaging in play, then happily laying on their own with a toy. It is still unknown how long Bernedoodles will live as it is a newer cross. The expected lifespan is hoped to be years. As with any dog, socialization and training should start while the dog is still a puppy and continue throughout its life. Look for a puppy kindergarten class locally or join the AKC S. Puppy Program , training based on positive techniques. You do not have to be an AKC purebred puppy to participate in their S. Puppy Program. Find a class here. Bernedoodle puppies do have energy like most puppies, and this will continue thru about years of age at which time they really mellow out. They are not nervous nor hyper but will need some off leash time where they can really stretch their legs and run. The old motto "a tired puppy is a good puppy" always prevails! Just make sure they have a lot of fresh water and a cool spot to cool off afterward. Due to the the recombination and shuffling of new genetic variations, they do show some variation in their coloration however they also all have a common morphology that tells you it's a bernedoodle. Colors and Fur Our Premier Bernedoodles will be traditional tri-color much like a Bernese Mountain Dog , abstract tricolor similar to a traditional tricolor with less white in the face , sable similar to a traditional tri-color but has more reddish-browns due to the poodle genetics we use , phantom, merle, merle tricolor, or bi-colored brown and white, black and white, or shades thereof. Our F1b's will consist of black and whites, traditional tricolors, abstract tricolors, and lots of variable brown and reddish brown and whites. Color never reflects temperament and personality so usually most people don't really care too much what color they are. They are all really beautiful. Although there's variation due to the hybrid vigor present as a result of the recombination of genes in many arrays, there is definitely a bernedoodle appearance that is fairly consistent. If you let the hair grow, they will look like big shaggy dogs that you can't help but to give a big hug to. And they enjoy every minute of it! Our Premier Bernedoodles will tend to have wavy curly coats due to the coat types we require in our bernese mountain dogs which helps to minimize or eliminate shedding.We do make sure that our standard poodles do not carry the genetic marker known as the "Improper Coat" allele or IC for short. Wavy curly coats do require a little more grooming as compared to straight, but many, straight coats shed more.Although they are considered to be large, they don't act like a large dog in the house. They are generally very careful and calm natured as adults however they do have some puppy-fun energy thru the puppyhood stages and thru 3 years of age. They love people and other pets! We do thorough genetic testing of our adults that we use in our breeding program to assure that you are purchasing the healthiest of bernedoodle puppies. Our Bernese mountain dogs come from very long-lived blood lines in Western Europe and these longer lifespans is one of the many reasons we obtain our Berners from several specific populations known for their longevity. Obviously we can't guarantee lifespan as there are many variables outside of our control not to mention, environment, stress, climate, food, etc. But track record seems to show a longer lifespan. What's the Difference? An F1b is an F1 standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle or could be a backcross to a Bernese mountain dog but we generally use the poodle as the backcross. An F1bb is an F1b standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle. Behaviorally they are all very similar with the F1b and F1bb's being slightly smaller than our F1 standards and tend to have slightly curlier coats to a tight wave. I would like to think so, but if you do not plan on being with your bernedoodle and keeping it with you, in your home, as part of your home, this is definitely not the dog for you. They have been communicating with their siblings for the past 8 weeks using their mouth. During their normal daily interactions, you will occasionally hear a loud "yelp" in response to one biting another too hard. This yelp usually ends the mouthing behavior. Now puppies have fur and people generally do not. When you bring your bernedoodle home, they will likely display some degree of mouthing behavior toward their human family. This will usually stop this behavior. We then redirect their desire to mouth to something more appropriate like a chew toy and after a few seconds of cooperating we praise them. But, in a second generation, these boundaries change. F1b Bernedoodle Appearance Two individual f1b Bernedoodles can look quite different from one another. The best way to predict how puppies will look is to examine the two parent dogs being used. Remember that one parent will be a first generation Bernedoodle, and the other will be a purebred Poodle. First generation Bernedoodles have equal influence from the Poodle and Bernedoodle. So, they can look very different. Some may already look very similar to Poodles, but others may resemble their Bernese Mountain Dog parent more closely. The goal of an f1b Bernedoodle is to resemble the Poodle parent more, particularly in their coat type. Generally, second generation mixes will have a more curly coat, and will be closer to the Poodle size than the giant Bernedoodle size. How Big Do They Get? Purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs are a giant breed. They usually grow from 23 to 27 inches tall, weighing from 70 pounds to as much as pounds. Most Bernedoodle mixes will use a purebred Standard Poodle. This variety will grow to at least 15 inches at the shoulder, weighing from 40 to 70 pounds on average. First generation Bernedoodles will fall somewhere in between these two sizes. It will entirely depend on the traits they inherit from the two parent breeds. Generally, they will be larger than your average Poodle, but smaller than your average Bernese Mountain Dogs. They may still be larger than your average standard Poodle, especially if your f1 Bernedoodle was closer to the Bernese Mountain Dog size. To achieve a smaller f1b Bernedoodle, breed your Poodle with a smaller first generation Bernedoodle. F1b Bernedoodle Colors There are a huge number of colors that your f1b Bernedoodle could be. Their interweaving melodies and rhythms enhance the sense of groove which underpins every Snarky Puppy tune. It was also nice to hear a violinist being featured so prominently on a Snarky Puppy song. Immediately noticeable, is how different the tone of saxophonist, Bob Reynolds is from the rest of the horn section. He enters at the beginning of the track in a call and response section with the other horn players and his sound is so smooth and laid back that it creates a really satisfying contrast, a feeling that defines the track. This is exemplified by the transition between the two excellent saxophone solos. Reynolds takes the first solo, which is fluid and controlled and accompanied only by drums and percussion. One short, textural build up later and the listener is suddenly slammed with a monster of an effects-laden tenor solo from Chris Bullock. This is one of the many elements of the song that contribute to its visceral nature. I am not one for dancing, but this track which I think is one of the best Snarky Puppy has ever produced had me dancing in my seat on a crowded bus, and I had absolutely no shame in doing so. This sentiment absolutely rings true on Culcha Vulcha. This is also the only track on the record that I doubt would work at all in a live show. There are two gripes that I have with Culcha Vulcha. The first is that some of the tracks feel a little self indulgent, in that they are longer than they should be. Culcha Vulcha is an album that achieves a lot of things. That lineup was unimaginable when ten friends enrolled in the jazz program of University of North Texas aka North Texas State in Denton, 30 miles from Dallas, first convened in .Moving into the Dallas scene we became groovier, more emotional, deeper in a sense. We focused more on communicating a clear message, understandable to a listener without dumbing things down. This was the last Wisconsin show for the pups for , and the last of this particular lineup. Shaun and Jamison were heading off back home after this one and Zach Brock and JT would join the rest of the team for the next show. This show features a lot of Maz so trumpet players and fans of his playing should hopefully really enjoy this setlist. Mike starts this off on Moog bass and Justin adds some super sparse, ambient Rhodes accompaniment. Nate uses lots of his chimes and other high-pitched percussion to experiment with texture. McQueen adds some nice tremolo to his unison melody with Bullock on flute. Justin quickly returns to the keys for the acidic sound that makes this track so iconic. He reharmonizes a few of the chords too. Bobby adds some tasty little Moog melodies and Shaun plays some piano stabs and rolls. Maz takes the solo on wah trumpet with some angular lines with lots of variation in articulation. Jamison starts it off with the regular drum groove and McQueen and Justin join in with their melody pretty soon afterwards. McQueen adds some tremolo to the chords. In the B section, Mike changes the bassline to something more staccato and displaced than usual and Jamison and Nate experiment by shifting between quaver and triplet subdivisions of the beat. Chris Bullock takes the solo on tenor sax with a ton of delay. Maz is left alone on flugelhorn to add his accompanying sustained notes. Bullock gets into some really long lines with some nice chromaticism. Justin goes for an ultra lush synth with the resonance filter cranked. Jamo and Nate pick up the energy immediately after the rest of the band stops playing. McQueen and Bobby add some staccato comping before playing the grungy melody. Mike takes a quick bass solo with the envelope filter and octaver and Shaun adds some high pitched, staccato D7 9 chords. Very Meters-esque just before the end. This was a really cool version of Chrysalis. Tarova — Justin starts this one off on synth with the smooth synth sound courtesy of the Prophet 6. So when Bobby, Shaun and Mike start playing for the trading section, there is quite an unusual clash of frequencies! Justin notices and switches to Rhodes for the last few bars before the solo melody. The groove picks up and then leads into the unison section. Shaun joins in on vocoder playing an octave higher than he normally would. Chris Bullock takes the solo and explores displaced and straight-over-swung semiquaver lines with lots of altissimo. The B section following on is more intense than usual due to a stronger bass section. Shaun adds some awesome synth comping during this as well. Nate goes ballistic with the sextuplets. Mike says hello to the audience and gives a shout out to Alina Engibaryan who opened the show. Bad Kids to the Back — Mike tells the story of how he wanted the music video for this song to be recorded through CCTV cameras at a Guitar Center store, but it ended up being too expensive and complex to do so they decided to make the video we all know today with the fancy animations and colorful lighting. This version of Bad Kids features lots more synth than usual and a more percussion-heavy mix. Mike and McQueen are super tight with their unison melody; more so than usual. Shaun takes the solo on Moog and takes his time. Justin and Bobby add some tasteful comping with a nice amount of reverb and delay and Shaun gets more motivic and chromatic. Awesome solo from Shaun. Jamo crushes the drum solo like usual. He uses lots of the snare drum with varying techniques and he gets pretty polyrhythmic. Towards the end, he sets up a New Orleans type groove and then lays out altogether for a moment before shredding with all the energy he has left for the last few measures. Jamison sets this one up with another drum solo back-to-back. He uses lots of the snare drum and gets into some cool shuffle-ly and relatively free, rubato grooves. He picks up the dynamics a lot at the 2-minute mark and starts incorporating lots of the tom-toms. He starts the main groove with a quieter dynamic and McQueen follows shortly after with an embellished take on the melody. McQueen adds some nice effect-y chords to the horn harmonies before ending on a feedback loop before the rest of the band enter. Shaun keeps the synth sound from Bad Kids for the majority of this song which gives it a fresh character. The bassline is doubled by Justin on the now in tune Prophet 6 and it gets funky quickly. McQueen leads into the solo section with a long feedback loop and Maz uses it to start his solo on wah trumpet. Maz gets into lots of out-there phrases with some very long notes adding to the atmosphere. He gets more chromatic towards the end. A lovely tasteful solo from him. There are lots of intricate rhythms going on with various percussive techniques. Justin takes the solo on Rhodes and gets motivic. He displaces lots of the phrases in different parts of the beat. He finds a nice descending phrase and repeats it enough times for Mike to copy him on Bass and use it in his comping. Jamo picks up the groove when Justin gets chordal. Mike too gets chordal on the bass and Justin plays in between his spaces. McQueen gets mega funky with some very subtle comping underneath the flute and muted trumpet melody. This section is extended. The bassline returns to how it was in the album version for the remaining sections and Shaun doubles it on the synth sound from before. McQueen takes a blistering solo on the outro under an ambient keyboard section. He gets into a nice mix of stepwise and intervallic ideas with his beloved Octave Fuzz tone. The outro chord is extended and Shaun adds a nice, rhythmic synth melody as the cherry on top. This version absolutely kills. Justin experiments on the Rhodes with some tasty little melodies. The first solo section gets a lovely, motivic and melodic trumpet solo from Maz on top of a super funky rhythm section. The two of them together hold it down. The second and main solo section sees some nice tremolo accompaniment from McQueen and some delicate fills from Justin on Rhodes. Bobby takes the solo on clavinet under a very sparse chordal and rhythmic base. He utilizes the full range of the keyboard with some insanely virtuosic phrases and expertly sequenced motifs. He turns on the heavier distortion at and starts getting a little more chordal and even more virtuosic. Jamison and Mike tighten up their groove to try and match his energy. Bobby turns on the Digitech whammy pedal for some extreme high-register stuff. Justin changes up some of the Rhodes chords before the horns enter. McQueen ends with some surf-inspired choppy tremolo chords. Mike, or maybe Bobby gets into some tasty synth bass stuff and Shaun plays some rhythmic double-stops with his comping using lots of fourths. The groove and ambience is increased just before the solos with some lush Rhodes comping from Justin and a super tight drum and percussion groove from Jamo and Nate. Maz takes another solo, this time on flugelhorn on top of a super funky solo section. The chorus is awesomely atmospheric with the blend in the washy synth textures and sounds. Mike gets funky before Shaun has a solo on the Moog. He starts right up high in his register and plays some awesome stepwise lines. Mike and Justin hold onto one of the chords a little longer than usual and McQueen adds some beautiful, sparkling clean arpeggios. Shaun continues his magic on the outro with a gentle solo on both Moog and his main keyboard switching from synth to a regular electric piano sound. He teases the audience by playing a fragmented version of the outro melody which typically signals the end of the tune. Xavi — Mike gives a polyrhythm masterclass before this one. Things start pretty regularly but Justin adds some rhythmic synth chords to the bassline. The B section is even more lush than usual with every keyboard being used! Shaun uses the same synth sound from before; it appears to be a winner. Chris McQueen takes an experimental first solo with lots of percussive techniques, whammy bar shenanigans, dissonant open strings, non-diatonic sequenced phrases and then some more traditional forms of guitar playing with some funky chordal playing. Bullock switches from tenor to soprano saxophone for his nice extended solo and he starts right out there before bringing it back home with some motivic pentatonic licks. The audience gets a few bars to test their clapping Madison was a bit messy! Bullock sticks with the soprano sax. Justin takes a polyrhythmic Rhodes solo possibly hoping that the audience will pay attention and learn! The outro is very high energy and features lots of clavinet and synth bass. Mike says thank you and introduces the band. Even Us Encore — A pretty mellow ending to an energetic show. McQueen delicately hybrid-picks, Shaun adds some subtle embellishments to the piano melody and Bobby adds some very subtle but very tasteful organ comping. After the first melody, Mike plays some simple melodic lines with his delay for a change. Jamison and Nate pick up the groove and Justin adds some ambient Rhodes chords. This piece slowly builds up and up before the enthusiastic second section at a slightly faster tempo. Bobby changes up his Moog accompaniment and Chris Bullock switches to soprano saxophone instead for the horn harmonies. The solo section sees a super melodic and middle-eastern inspired solo from Bobby on the Moog. He gets crazy with the pitch bend before picking up the pace and weirdness. He goes 8-bit towards the end and the rest of the band shifts into top gear. The solo finishes with some gentler and super washy drumming from Jamison before leading into the unison piano and guitar outro melody. A beautiful, high energy version of this amazing and typically very mellow tune.
