I'm Dixie Rae, it's nice to meet you! My foster mom says I'm the goo- rope! Is that a rope? I love ropes. Anyways, my foster mom says I'm the bounciest, goodest girl ever, even though I'm a bit easily distracted. How can you not be distracted by all of the fun things in the world?! Like ropes, and tennis balls and toys full of stuffing! Toys are my favorite, especially ones that I can pull all the stuffing out I don't eat, just toss it aside and ropes that I can play tug of war with. My foster brother and I can play tug ALL. We also like to wrestle. My two footed friends call me a helper dog because I'm really good at reading the body language of my doggy friends. I can bring my timid furriends out of their shells and back off when my furriends need a break. I make friends everywhere I go.I'm not really a fan of the cat type four footers. I learned my name super fast, and as long as there's not something better, I come when you call me. I know how to sit when you tell me, and I'm learning 'place'.Are you ready for me to move in? Their personalities are easy to love; they have a confident demeanor and are known for their almost clown-like antics when excited, making them an excellent family companion. This breed is quite family-oriented but may be distant with strangers at first. Their characteristic aloofness to outsiders helps make them great guard dogs. With consistent training and established rules and boundaries, this powerful pup can learn with the best of them. As a working breed, they were known for their wild pig and cattle catching abilities, making them indispensable on southern ranches in the US. Grooming Hurray for easy care! Make sure your vet gives your pup a professional cleaning every year, too. Be sure to put nail trimming every couple of weeks and ear cleaning monthly is usually enough on the grooming menu, too. And as for baths, plan on a bath about once a month or so. You may be able to just use your nose. If you detect an unpleasant odor eww! Training When it comes to training, an American Bulldog puppy needs a confident pup parent who uses positive reinforcement to teach various skills, such as how to walk nicely on a leash and come when called. Start training your American Bulldog puppy early to get them used to the ropes. Once you understand what works for them, training becomes easy. Remember: American Bulldogs are smart. These social interactions give your dog a chance to explore a variety of environments and social situations. Feed your puppy large-breed puppy kibble for their first 14 months to support slow but consistent growth. Skip food or supplements with calcium until your pooch is fully grown and eating an adult diet. The added calcium could disrupt healthy bone development. Treats are an essential part of training and a great way to show your pup you love them. However, too many treats can lead to a tubby pup, so check with your vet if you need help figuring out a proper treat-to-mealtime ratio. Exercise Even though they have a moderate energy level, an American Bulldog needs a lot of exercise. And exercise is important to keep your dog out of trouble. If they have unused energy, an American Bulldog will resort to destructive behaviors to release that energy, like chewing on your favorite pair of shoes. This athletic dog benefits greatly from structured walks and play to work the mind and their muscular build. As a puppy parent, strive to offer non-impact movement such as hiding balls in the yard or offering a puzzle toy, as these games lower the risk of joint and bone damage early on. Get out of the house twice a day or more if your young dog is up for it for playtime and walks that last between 20 and 30 minutes. Trainers often suggest skipping the dog park because structured play is more difficult in this setting. Instead, get creative with activities. Think: fetch, tug-of-war with a rope toy or a chewy option filled with something delicious. You may even try lower-impact dog sports like agility or nose work. Both are an excellent way to keep your pup mentally and physically engaged. Remember, a happy dog is a tired dog! Ideal Environment Both city and country homes will suit the American Bulldog as long as you can offer lots of exercise and playtime. Still, families with kids are a good match for this protective and intelligent breed. A structured day with regular walks and chances to play with a variety of toys is the best environment for the American Bulldog. Staving off boredom is paramount, and, of course, no animal likes to be home alone for a long time. When considering the American Bulldog as a pet, bear in mind that training is the key to their success, especially when adding this breed to a home with kids or other dogs. Pup parents need to be aware of some of these issues so they can help their dog live the healthiest life possible. Joint Dysplasia: This joint abnormality is seen in the hips and elbows, and a dog with dysplasia may run, jump and climb less than usual. Most often, the issue is a rupture or partial tear. Cherry Eye: Did you know dogs have a third eyelid? Bone Cancer: Often found in the long bones arms, legs , the cause for this condition is unknown, though vets feel it may have a genetic or environmental component. Deafness: Deafness, which can occur in one or both ears, may be acquired via drug exposure or infection. But deafness could also be hereditary and is linked to dogs with light coats and eyes. Acquired deafness is usually permanent but may improve over time without intervention. A special diet may be the treatment or medications, depending on the cause. Spinal Issues: Degenerative myelopathy DM is often genetic in nature and affects the spinal cord, leading to weakness and hind limb paralysis. Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis: NCL is an inherited, progressive and rare neurological disorder that starts showing up between 1 and 2 years of age. The most obvious symptom is behavioral changes in the dog, and the pup will usually lose coordination and eyesight. It can be discovered through a DNA test, and at this time, there are no treatments. This proud pup carries an imported pedigree, having been brought over from across the pond as a descendant of the English Bulldog, which was originally bred for bull baiting. Thankfully, this horrific sport was outlawed in England in .Back in the 17th century, early settlers packed these working dogs with them for service on farms and ranches. The American Bulldog became a utility player, stepping in to accomplish many tasks, such as guarding livestock and catching cattle and feral pigs. In fact, were it not for their success as an excellent catch dog in the southern states, we might not know the breed today. John D. Johnson and Alan Scott were able to breed the last few native American Bulldogs in the southern US, resulting in two types the Scott type and the Johnson type that thrive today. These breeds differ in appearance; the Johnson American Bulldog sports a bigger, stronger build, a larger head and short muzzle, and the Scott American Bulldog has more lithe features, such as an athletic, small-boned frame and a longer muzzle. Always check local laws and regulations before acquiring one of these dogs. American Bulldog History The ancestor of the American Bulldog is the Old English Bulldog, which was brought to North America by working class immigrants who wanted to keep their working dogs to help on the farms. Rather than being concerned with maintaining breed purity or certain genetic traits, early farmers bred the dogs with the best working qualities for all-around farm work. Wild pigs were an invasive species not native to the American south that had no natural predators, and the strong jaws and muscular build of the American Bulldog was perfect for hunting them down. They were originally used in the barbaric sport of bull baiting. By the end of World War II, the American Bulldog was almost extinct until a few breeders scoured the south for specimens to revive the breed. Today, the American Bulldog is in no danger of extinction and is mostly a family-friendly companion. Adorable American Bulldog puppies will grow to 20 to 28 inches in height and 60 to pounds by the time they reach adulthood. Although these sizes are considered to be standard for the breed, American Bulldogs can be quite a bit larger or smaller. American Bulldog Personality American Bulldogs are friendly, intelligent, and affectionate , though that affectionate nature often leads them to be territorial and overly suspicious of strangers. This makes them lovely family dogs and watchdogs, even for families with children, but they will need socialization training, especially as puppies to get along with unfamiliar humans or other dogs that stop by for a visit. Luckily, their intelligence makes them highly adaptable and trainable. The American Bulldog is a playful breed that has some high exercise needs, and they do well in families that are able to stay active with lots of walks and play time. They can develop in American Bulldogs and may require surgical removal for treatment. It can lead to itching, hair loss, and skin irritation. Treatment typically involves medicated baths and sometimes oral medications. This can lead to weight gain, lethargy, skin issues, and other health problems. It is usually managed with lifelong medication. It can lead to lameness and discomfort, and severe cases may require surgical intervention. Elbow Dysplasia : Elbow dysplasia is another developmental disorder affecting the elbows. It can cause pain, lameness, and arthritis in the affected limb. Treatment may involve medication, weight management, and in some cases, surgery to correct the condition. American Bulldog Care Most of the care that is necessary for the health of an American Bulldog is meeting their needs for exercise and mental stimulation. Failing to do so can result in anxiety, boredom, and destructive behavior. So long as those needs are met, the rest is fairly standard. Maintain normal vet visits, check their ears weekly, keep up with monthly nail clipping and normal dental care. One of the issues you may face is the potential for drooling that is common among bully breeds. You should take care to wipe your dog as needed unless you want a generous amount of slobber all over your home. American Bulldog Feeding An American Bulldog diet should be formulated for a large to giant breed, and their high energy level should be taken into consideration. Their needs will change from puppyhood to adulthood. You should discuss with them how to form an appropriate diet for your dog. Traditionally they are white with patches of brindle, red, or black, but there are quite a few more color variations to the breed in modern times. They may have patterns that include shades of black, red, brindle, brown, or fawn. American Bulldogs usually have black on the nose and the rims of the eyes, but they may also have shades of pink. Their eye color is usually brown. Although these are breed standards, some American Bulldogs have been known to be merle or have coats that contain shades of blue. Weekly brushing should keep it under control with baths as needed. So long as they are trained properly, American Bulldogs are great with children and are very loyal to all members of the family. It is also important to train children on how to properly handle and treat animals to avoid incident. American Bulldogs are large animals, and overly energetic play can cause injuries. The same can be said for interactions with other pets. So long as American Bulldogs are socialized and trained, they usually get along with other dogs just fine. Play should be supervised, especially with smaller dogs that can easily get hurt when playing with a large, muscular American Bulldog. American Bulldog Breed Organizations Finding a reputable dog breeder is one of the most important decisions you will make when bringing a new dog into your life. Reputable breeders are committed to breeding healthy, well-socialized puppies that will make great companions. They will screen their breeding stock for health problems, socialize their puppies from a young age, and provide you with lifetime support. On the other hand, backyard breeders are more interested in making a profit than in producing healthy, well-adjusted dogs. They may not screen their breeding stock for health problems, and they may not socialize their puppies properly. As a result, puppies from backyard breeders are more likely to have health problems and behavioral issues. More Info For You. They know how to finish a task, and they hope you'll appreciate it. They're brawny and well-built, they have incredible stamina, and they'll be at your side if you're out in the fields, in the woods, or hiking a rocky trail. They also enjoy cuddling. With a family, they're naturally loyal. Their hindquarters are narrow and lifted with sculpted haunches. They have a high, thin tail like a rudder and a long back. Standing about 2 feet at the shoulder, their broad, square head is positioned on a solid neck. With a quick glance, it's almost as though most of their 60— pounds is in the front of the body, but that's just because their burly chest ripples with strength and their forelegs are set wide apart. They have a prominent forehead, and their dainty upside-down, V-shaped ears drape on either side of their cap. They have soft, round brown eyes. Most American bulldogs are white or have a white base coat usually marked with black, brown, brindle, or tan. Their fur is short and neat. Temperament The American bulldog temperament is quite silly when excited or happy, and these dogs will clown around to make their human companions laugh. Your lap is often their favorite spot, regardless of how much oomph they have. They love to frolic and play, especially fetching and tug-of-war, and they'll spring many feet into the air after a Frisbee or another flying toy. They're so intelligent , it's easy to be enthusiastic about training to help them grow into effective hunters or well-mannered family dogs. American bulldog puppies need early socialization and consistent training , and mental and physical stimulation for bullies of all ages is a must. They were bred to do good work, and some of their job titles include feral hog wrangler, hunting dog , livestock herder, personal protection canine, and ranch hand. When a working dog is bored, their impish charm might toe the line, and they're more likely to engage in undesirable behaviors such as digging , chewing, and barking. Birt says new American bulldog owners need to be knowledgeable and vigilant! Include your American bulldog in any exercise you do. This helps them see you as the leader, and they'll jump for joy—literally! They're naturally wary of strangers and may need some extra association with your children's friends so they recognize their play together as non-threatening. Early and consistent socialization will help your American bulldog be more comfortable around new people. Living Needs As long as American bulldogs are kept active and engaged, they'll do well on a farm, in a house with a big yard, or in an apartment with a large-animal dog park nearby. As long as they're not left alone for too long, they're adaptable. Because American bulldogs crave activity and stimulation, potential owners should first talk with a veterinarian to determine if this bulldog's exercise needs match their lifestyles. All dogs benefit from early, positive socialization so they can learn to work well with their owners and children, and this is true for an American bulldog, too. Though he lives happily with animals he's known since puppyhood, Birt says he might get a little grumpy if his four-legged sibling tries to play with his toys or eat all his food. An American bulldog's temperament is so persistent, he'll probably dash through invisible fencing, especially if he's chasing a rabbit or squirrel. Tall plank fencing is a good option and hard for these dogs to jump over. Creating a maze or a busy box to provide mental stimulation is a terrific problem-solving activity to eliminate boredom and avoid undesirable behavior. Something simple, like tossing wads of crumpled newspaper across the floor with little treats hidden underneath, helps keep your American bulldog happy and engaged. When you're not around, he'll love interactive toys to keep him busy. Care There's no need to spend a lot of time spiffing up an American bulldog—he's a naturally handsome breed. Weekly brushing controls moderate shedding and spreads essential oils through his coat to keep it healthy. But you might need to give him an extra comb-through when spring and fall seasonal shedding picks up. They only need baths when they're dirty , and that's a good time to trim their nails and check and clean their ears , too. Regular home dental care is important, not only for healthy teeth and fresh breath but also because they have a tendency to slobber a lot, especially after eating and drinking. Their cute facial folds need cleaning throughout the day. Most types of bulldogs, including the American, are a bit gassy. A veterinarian can explain how their particular anatomy affects digestion and what diets minimize flatulence. Health An American bulldog's lifespan is 10—12 years, and they're generally healthy and robust. But as a brachycephalic or flat-faced breed , they're prone to overheating, and you have to take action quickly. According to the American Bulldog Association ABA , this breed can also develop elbow or hip dysplasia , a condition where the joint doesn't properly form. This results in a loose joint and, if untreated, osteoarthritis. The ABA also says American bulldogs can also develop two diseases: Ichthyosis: This is a skin disorder resulting from a genetic mutation. In less-severe cases, the dog has flaky skin and requires more frequent bathing and oiling to be comfortable. In severe cases, your pup will be itchy and need almost daily bathing and oiling. American bulldogs can also develop allergies , so talk to your veterinarian if you notice your dog excessively itching. Canine Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis NCL : This is a deadly, incurable condition where a dog loses control of his hindquarters, eventually resulting in him not being able to move. According to the ABA, signs of the condition begin appearing when a pup is about 2 years old. The good news: both of these conditions are detectable with genetic testing. Make sure your American bulldog breeder conducts all health screenings recommended by the OFA. If you're adopting through an American bulldog rescue, ask for all available health information. History American bulldogs' ancestry began in the English countryside, where they were often found in butcher shops. When laborers immigrated to the American colonies in the 17th century, they brought their stout working dogs with them. According to the ABA, this breed was originally known as the English white bulldog or the white English bulldog because of their mostly white coats, even though they didn't have the typical "sourmug" face of their English cousins. American bulldogs almost faded away after World War II, but breeders John Johnson and Alan Scott each worked to improve the animals' family sociability and guarding skills. Now, there are two primary strains of American bulldogs, and those with Johnson's traits are a little larger and more athletic than canines Scott's line. This breed is sometimes confused with pit bulls, but there are some things prospective owners need to know about American bulldogs vs. For one, the term "pit bull" in the U. But pit bulls are recognized as their own breed by the United Kennel Club. While both can be loving and rambunctious dogs, the American bulldog always has a white base for their coat, while pit bulls can be almost any color. They also have different lineages—American bulldogs descend from mastiffs , and pit bulls from various terriers, including American Staffordshire terriers and Staffordshire bull terriers —although some breed historians believe there's a little bulldog mixed in. Fun Facts American bulldogs can jump more than 3 feet in the air. Some have been known to bounce as high as 7 feet! American bulldogs have spent a lot of time on the big screen. Monte Carlo the American Bulldog puppy at 6 weeks Monte Carlo the American Bulldog puppy at 6 weeks "Marilyn is a beautiful three-year-old, pound American Bulldog with a heart of gold. Named after the "greatest female star of all time" Marilyn Monroe, she has a larger than life personality that fits her wonderfully. Marilyn is everything you could ever want out of an American Bulldog—well socialized, protective, obedient, great with children and all animals!!! She is a 7-month-old female American Bulldog who is about 45 lbs. From what I can see she appears to be from the "Scott" or performance line of American Bulls. She is very gentle and learns extremely quickly. I have never raised my voice at her to get her to obey or learn anything; she is very food and praise motivated. Roxy loves to play and run outside but she is relatively inactive and cuddly once indoors. Roxy is a wonderful dog and I am lucky to have her. I would recommend this breed to anyone who can give it the exercise and structured environment it needs to be the best it can. He likes staying very close by me. Very well socialized around people and other dogs. It was very easy to train him on several commands. He was 9 weeks old in this picture and already weighed 25 lbs.!! He has a very outgoing temperament. He already takes on the full-grown Dobermans at the dog park in tug-of-war! He is inactive in the house, but is so playful outside and around other dogs. He hates the vacuum, lol. He actually gets about 2 hours of exercise a day at 10 weeks old but he sleeps for the rest of the night following that. He loves his three brothers, a Great Dane , Chihuahua , and Poodle ; in fact the only thing he loves more is children!! He is able to have fun and run around when we go out, but when we are at home he is able to lay back and relax and chew on toys. At this young age he is already learning commands. I purchased the leashes , etc. The leash truly helps in keep the dogs walking correctly. I tried out his food, and I take the bottled water by Cesar Millan to the dog park so they don't drink the communal water. I always use his techniques, and I train myself before the dog!! Her tail can clear a coffee table in two seconds flat and she snores like the proverbial freight train, but the look of love is so clear in her eyes that all you can do is laugh. I've always had small to medium dogs, but I truly don't think there will ever be another breed for me! His biggest dislikes are the rain and very small dogs. His two best friends are yellow Labs named Bruschi and Molly. How can you not love that face???? This beautiful American Bulldog is named Roxy. Life Span Did You Know? The American Bulldog is a descendant of a generic bulldog type of dog breed brought into the region that is now the Southern United States by working-class immigrants many years ago. These were all-around working dogs used by small farmers and ranchers for several tasks around the farm. They were often found working as catch dogs, stock dogs, and overall farm guardians. When feral pigs were introduced to the New World, they had no natural predators and the population quickly grew out of control. In addition to their farm duties, the settlers found the bulldog-type dog to be the best solution they had for dealing with it. So, the bulldog continued to thrive, especially in the South. Johnson and Alan Scott that we have what we know today as the American Bulldog. Modern American Bulldogs can still be found working as all-around utility dogs, farm dogs, catch dogs, cattle drovers, and more. They can also be found competing in dog sports, working as a guardian, police, or military dog, and are also popular as a family pet. This dog breed is a sweetheart with a gentle, fun-loving nature. The American Bulldog is affectionate and adores their families. They also love children and tend to be good with other animals. The American Bulldog is a moderately adaptable dog breed. They are strong, high-energy working dogs that love being around their favorite humans. This makes them better suited to larger homes with space for them to run. They are not generally a good fit for apartment living, but they can adapt as long as they get more than enough exercise and attention. Because they do tend to bond strongly with their owners and want to be near them, they do not tend to do well with long periods of time alone. As with any dog breed, they are sensitive to extreme heat or cold, but can adapt to well to most climates. There are some health issues that can be found in specific genetic lines and are not common to the breed overall, but these can be ruled out with genetic tests. Some potential health conditions to be aware of in general with the American Bulldog include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, thyroid disorders, kidney disorders, bone cancer, and eye-related issues like ectropion, entropion, and cherry eye. Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. Free Bulldog Puppy Starter Kit! You can have different colors in Brindle English Bulldogs like red brindle, fawn brindle, etc. Some English Bulldog Brindles come with beautiful chocolate, blue, or silver brindle patterns. What is a Brindle English Bulldog? Brindle English Bulldogs are standard English Bulldogs. Brindle English Bulldogs have stripes or brindle patterns. The pattern is subtle and not distinct as seen on a zebra. Rather, it is indistinct, blotchy, and more blended with the base color. In Brindle English Bulldogs, the base color and stripe colors may not vary much. Usually, the base will be darker and the stripes will be lighter. Sometimes, the stripes are present all over including the head and belly and, at other times, they may be only present in certain areas. Red is the most common color in Brindle English Bulldogs. However, breeders also breed for unique brindles in base colors like lilac, fawn, chocolate, black, silver, and blue. Often, Brindle English Bulldogs have grey, blue, or hazel eyes. Not really. Brindle is one of the accepted standard colors in English Bulldogs. In certain dog breeds like Labradors, the Brindle pattern is rare — but not in English Bulldogs. The brindle pattern occurs because the brindle gene is recessive to the black-colored gene. Dog Pricing Welcome to Dog Pricing, your comprehensive source for all things canine! Like all things in life, breeding for health is simply a matter of priority. We are blind to many of the breed priorities that distract other breeders from improving the health of the English Bulldog. We focus on health and personality and very little else. We are not interested in winning a blue ribbon in the show ring. Rather, we test for things like elongated soft palates, narrow tracheas, stenotic nares, luxation in the patellar tendons, heart defects, cherry eye, optic cilia, entropion, ect. We focus and prioritize creating healthy bloodlines, therefore our bulldogs are typically much healthier than the breed as a whole. After breeding for health, what other priorities are you focused on? Our true desire is to create the perfect family bulldog. We also believe a bulldog bred for the correct personality is essential to the family unit as well. A Bruiser Bulldog is bred for intelligence and playfulness. We want our bulldogs to be full of personality and some quirk. We believe a full personality along with a little stubbornness is the true North star of the bulldog breed and is what makes the unique among other breeds. We look for these personality traits in our adult bulldogs and continue to create bloodlines that reflect these qualities. What are the steps of your adoption process if I am located in New York? Socialization Our retrievers are raised in our home. From birth, they are handled by multiple adults and young children many times throughout the day. Our retrievers have been exposed to many different people, animals, flooring, ground types, sounds and smells. They are exposed to the many different activities that take place in a household with multiple children and many visitors. This is all done in an effort to provide the retrievers with well rounded experiences to help prepare them for your home. As in most newer scientific movements, there are both proponents and detractors. We feel that there are significantly more benefits to the puppy, than any possible downside. According to Dr. Carmen Battagltia, and researchers for the US Military, there is a small window of a newborn puppies life that, if a specific regimen of stimulation exercises, are performed on the puppy, for a specific amount of time, the puppy will benefit in the following ways: Improved cardio vascular performance heart rate Stronger heart beats Stronger adrenal glands More tolerance to stress Greater resistance to disease. In tests of learning, stimulated pups were found to be more active and were more exploratory than their non- stimulated littermates over which they were dominant in competitive situations. Medical Our retriever pups are microchipped shortly after birth. They are then, checked and vaccinated by a vet, and wormed three times. They will continue to remain on a vaccination schedule as long as they are in our care. Additionally, they are on a schedule of Heartgard and Nexgard. Training Litter training begins with our retrievers when they are just three weeks old. They graduate to utilizing a doggy-door to relieve themselves outside at approximately five to six weeks old. This is the initial stages of potty training your retriever. Approximately four weeks of additional positive training placed on your puppy. Our retrievers are able to demonstrate several actions prior to going to their new home. They are trained to demonstrate an Automatic Sit for being a friendly greeter. Our puppies are all super adorable and all have great attitudes. Choosing your future puppy won't be easy with this batch. To help you, we will gladly provide you with some extra pics or videos, and if you have any questions, just ask. Both of these puppies have been delivered to their forever homes and have adapted very well. Articles The Golden Retriever is considered one of the most popular double-coat doggies in the world. It is known for its long and luscious coat that looks red, amber, and sometimes golden. It is known for being lovable and trustworthy and is one of the perfect breeds for dog competitions or shows. In order to keep your Golden Retriever looking dapper but also protecting their health, you should consider giving them a trim or cut. A Full Shave is recommended for Goldies with medical conditions or severe matting, while a Kennel Cut is great at keeping a Goldie looking sharp and neat. In addition, you can try out Field Cut before bringing the Goldie on an outdoor trip. There is the option of visiting a pet salon for that extra after-trim care or trying it out yourself at home. A cut does not have to be the same boring one, and we have some cool suggestions that you can try out. Puppy Cut Image from Instagram: d. It can be done on a Golden Retriever or any other pup breed you may have at home. In addition, it ensures that little to no fur is shed on your furniture and car seat. The functional role of this cut is for doggies that are part of a show, like dog shows and competitions. This cut is neatly done around the ears, private parts, and paws. Keen attention to detail is important during trimming. This cut is all about trimming your pup, leaving it with a short coat that will not weigh it down when wet. It also helps your pup to dry up much faster. This type of cut is short enough to also protect their skin from swimming pool chemicals. If the water mass that your doggie spends time in is a natural water source, you can opt for a different cut. Summer Cut Image from Dog grooming and sitting A Summer Cut is one that is presumably designed to keep your pup cool during the hot days of the year. It is more about getting rid of the top coat and keeping a short haircut all through. It means keeping the cut to an inch or shorter and can be done around the ears and personal zones. It is also important to note that a Golden Retriever has a double coat which keeps them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. To ensure that you have the best summer trim, you should consult a professional groomer. Simple Trim Image from Instagram: gldpaws If you are looking for a cut on Golden Retrievers that does not demand too much work, the Simple Trim is the best option. It is all about doing a nice trim of the long hairs as well as any dead or unmanageable hairs. This cut is done all over the body with a focus on around the neck and chest area. It is all about keeping your pup feeling cool but, at the same time, protecting them from bites, skin irritation, or the biting cold. The style makes your pup look like a large teddy bear because you have to feather the coat for that look after the cut. You can get the help of a professional groomer for that perfect teddy bear finish. The main purpose of this cut is to get rid of any excess hair that can trap dirt and other debris or get caught on branches or bushes. This cut requires you to trim the hair short throughout the body and keep it at the same length. It is much shorter than Teddy and Puppy Cuts. In fact, they last much longer than other cuts as they will grow out evenly over time. There are a few reasons why your Golden Retriever may need a full trim, and this can be useful in treating a medical condition or dermatitis, getting rid of dead hairs, and doing away with matted fur. This means it is a cut for extreme situations that may arise. It is shaved as close to the skin as possible. It is important to note that you should resist a Full Shave on long-haired doggies because they need their fur to regulate their body temperature. The fur is also responsible for preventing bug bites or skin irritation. Yes, you need to take your Golden Retriever for a regular trim. The main role of a shave is to get rid of dead hairs while regulating the body temperature at the same time. Golden Retrievers are known for their long fur and look great in their dense coats. Their coat is known to shed naturally, which is also great. There are different cuts to choose from, so you should not feel restricted to a simple shave. After shaving, a Golden Retriever will have shorter fur, which allows them to roam freely outdoors or swim without worrying about dirt or debris. They should feel cool in the summer and also warm in the winter, depending on how clean the shave you have chosen for your Goldie. You are advised to trim or lightly shave them to prevent their hair follicles from getting destroyed. This can mean their lovely coat may never grow back. Golden Retrievers have a double coat that looks great and protects their skin from external elements, such as extreme heat, skin irritation, and bug bites. Care and attention should be a priority when trimming or shaving your furry friend. Avoid shaving below an inch to the skin, and keep the trim uniform all over. As mentioned, try not to cut too close to the skin to prevent hair follicle damage, which can prevent the hair from growing back. It may not make much difference to the dog, they will still get warm and their coat will still protect them, but they will look neater and even more majestic. Show Cut The simple trim is functional and primarily benefits you, as the owner. Trim, feather the fur, and properly trim the paws, ears, and sanitary areas. Because the show cut is for dogs that are being shown, it requires a lot more attention to detail. You will need to ensure that it follows the right shape and that you do a good job of cutting areas like the paws. It may be worth getting a professional groomer to complete this trim. Summer Cut Summertime is when a lot of owners decide to shave their dogs. It makes sense in many ways—your dog is hot. Getting rid of their double coat will reduce the temperature and even the weight that they have to carry around. The summer cut is a good alternative. It is more shaped than a puppy cut but can be as short. Keep the shape of the coat but cut it down to an inch or shorter. The Teddy Cut The Teddy Cut is a professional cut that is specifically offered to breeds like the Golden Retriever that have luscious, long double coats. It helps regulate temperature and keep them cooler during the summer months without affecting the double coat itself. The body is clipped really short while the legs are scissored to their natural shape. The tail and feet are also trimmed and curved to shape. This cut makes your dog look fluffy and like a teddy, hence its name, and it will help keep them cool and minimize the risk of damaging their natural, double coat. Golden Retriever Haircuts: Final Thoughts The Golden Retriever has a long list of recognizable attributes, but they get their name from their beautiful golden locks. Whether you exhibit your Retriever, or he is a family companion, you can provide him with a haircut that keeps him cool, ensures that he looks his best, and that will not damage his incredible double coat. Featured image credit: Olena Brodetska, Shutterstock Contents. However, with numerous grooming options available, selecting the perfect cut can be overwhelming. But fret not! So instead of shaving, consider a different haircut that keeps them cool and comfortable. Summer Cut Some dog owners may believe that shaving their dogs will help them cope with the heat during the summer. Then, trim the ears, chest, feet, and personal areas for added comfort. Puppy Cut Have you ever heard of a puppy cut? The term derives from its simple approach: the fur is cut to around half an inch and is the same length all over the body. One of the benefits of the puppy cut is that it is simple to maintain, comfy for your pet, and leaves enough hair to protect them. While it will not entirely eliminate shedding, it will help lessen the amount of fur that winds up on your furniture. It allows them to regulate their body temperature in the summer without harming their natural coat. The torso is trimmed short, the legs are scissored to shape, and the tail and foot are cut in a curved shape. This cut keeps your dog looking fluffy like a teddy bear while keeping them cool and protecting its natural coat. First, remember that their double coat acts as a natural temperature regulator and shields them from the sun and other elements, so cutting it too short may cause problems. For example, a shorter cut may be suitable for a dog who spends a lot of time outside in the heat, but a longer coat may be preferable for a dog who spends most of his time indoors or in cooler weather. For a nice haircut, look for a groomer with expertise in golden retrievers who can advise you on the ideal cut for your dog. Moreover, to keep your dog healthy and happy, ensure they are up to date on their immunizations before going to the groomer. The thickness of their coat and the length of time they spend indoors versus outdoors can all influence whether a haircut is required. One thing to remember is that a complete shave is not recommended for Golden Retrievers during the summer. Instead, a skilled groomer can trim their hair to a lower length while leaving their natural undercoat intact. Protecting Your Golden Retrievers from Overheating During Summer Golden retrievers are great dogs , but their thick double coats can make them uncomfortable in hot and humid weather. It can be harmful and even dangerous when a Golden Retriever becomes overheated. Heatstroke signs in dogs include excessive panting, weakness, vomiting, and even collapsing. Fortunately, there are things you can do to keep your pet cool and healthy during hot weather. Here are some pointers: Offer plenty of fresh water: Always provide clean water for your Golden Retriever. You can also add ice cubes to the water to keep it chilled. Avoid exercising during the hottest portions of the day: It is best to exercise in the early morning or late evening in the summer. Maintain a relaxed environment: If your Golden Retriever spends time indoors, ensure the house is air-conditioned or has sufficient air circulation. Avoid walking your dog on the scorching pavement: It can burn their paws and cause them to overheat, so take shady routes or walk during more excellent times of the day. Following these tips can help prevent your Golden Retriever from overheating and keep them healthy and happy during hot weather. Get veterinarian assistance immediately if you suspect your pet is suffering from heatstroke. Benefits Of Regular Grooming For Your Golden Retriever Regular grooming has various advantages for your furry friend, including: Increased self-confidence and socializing: Regular grooming can help pets look and smell better, leading to improved self-confidence and socialization. Healthier skin and coat: Grooming helps eliminate dirt, dead skin, and loose fur, lowering the risk of skin irritation and infections. It can also encourage healthy hair growth and reduce shedding. Bonding: Grooming allows owners to bond with their pets while also building trust and affection. Improved circulation: Grooming enhances blood flow and circulation, promoting healthy skin and coat. Grooming pets regularly can help keep them healthy, happy, and looking their best. Arranging a summer haircut ahead of time might help them stay relaxed and healthy throughout the season. Also, planning ahead is usually preferable, so you do not have to stress at the last minute. Dog grooming salons can get quite busy during the summer, so make an appointment for your dog ahead of time to prevent losing out. Be sure to schedule a summer haircut and get ready to enjoy the hot weather before your pup is panting and overheating! Proper Nutrition: A balanced diet is crucial for a healthy coat. Hydration: Keep your dog well-hydrated during hot summer days. Provide fresh water at all times and consider adding wet food or water-rich fruits and vegetables to their diet. Proper hydration helps maintain a lustrous coat and prevents dryness. Protection from the Sun: Just like humans, dogs can suffer from sunburn and heatstroke. Flea and Tick Prevention: Summer brings an increase in fleas and ticks. Protect your Golden Retriever with preventive treatments recommended by your veterinarian. Regularly check for any signs of infestation and promptly address them to maintain a healthy coat. Bathe your Golden Retriever as needed to keep them clean, but avoid excessive bathing, as it can strip away natural oils. Professional Grooming: Consider scheduling regular professional grooming sessions for your Golden Retriever. Professional groomers have the expertise to trim and shape the coat appropriately, reducing the risk of overheating and maintaining a neat appearance. Stay Active: Regular exercise helps improve overall coat health by promoting good circulation and reducing stress. Engage your Golden Retriever in outdoor activities during cooler parts of the day to keep them physically active and mentally stimulated. Remember to monitor their coat regularly for any changes or signs of skin issues, and consult with a veterinarian if you have any concerns. With proper care, your furry friend will shine under the summer sun! Conclusion In conclusion, grooming your golden retriever is essential to overall health and well-being. Regular grooming can help avoid skin irritation, matting, and discomfort associated with excessive shedding. Finally, scheduling a summer cut can help ensure your pet stays comfortable and relaxed during the hot months. So go ahead and treat your pet with a decent grooming routine! While a summer cut will not prevent all shedding, it will help reduce the amount of fur on your furniture and home. Thus, while a summer haircut may not wholly eliminate shedding, it can make it more manageable for you and your pet. Will a summer cut make my golden retriever more susceptible to sunburn? To keep your dog cool and comfortable, consider using dog-specific sunscreen and offering plenty of shade and drinks. Its double coat is essential for controlling body temperature and protecting the skin from the sun and other factors. Cutting their hair too short can cause skin irritation, sunburn, and other health problems. The golden retriever , of course! With a heart of gold and a coat to match, it's no wonder how the golden retriever is known as one of the most popular dog breeds. Friendly, loyal, and intelligent, goldens make great family dogs and fur-ever companions. They love adventures and love to play, meaning, their medium-length locks will inevitably get dirty and have to be groomed. However, before you take any dog to get groomed, it's important to know what type of coats they have—a single coat or a double coat —as some haircuts may not be the best fit for your canine companion. Due to their upbringing as gundogs bred to retrieve waterfowl and upland game, golden retrievers have a double coat, or two layers of fur—a dense, water-repellent outer coat and a thick, soft undercoat. For this reason, golden retrievers shouldn't be shaved since their double coats keep them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Ready to take your playful pooch to their next grooming session? We've selected the best golden retriever haircuts to fit any pup and pet parent's preference, lifestyle, and budget. Puppy Cut The puppy cut is a fan favorite among dog parents—and for good reason! It's simple, cute, and low-maintenance. While the length can vary based on the pet parent's preference, your golden's fur is typically cut to be around half an inch in length and is trimmed to the same length all over their body, says Reda Elabd, certified master groomer and owner of Central Park Pet Spa in New York, N. Summer Cut Want to keep it easy, breezy, and beautiful for your cover dog in the summertime? The summer cut is calling your golden's name! Opting for a cut like the summer cut provides comfort for your retriever when temperatures start to rise. The summer cut keeps your dog's ears, chest, and feet well-trimmed, as well as their sanitary areas. Simple Trim If you're looking to keep your golden retriever's natural shape, the simple trim is—well, simple—and a wonderful option to keep your retriever's fur tidy. Plus, it doesn't require much cutting at all. It's a style Elabd recommends year round. The coat around the dog's neck and chest could also be thinned," he says. Show Cut Let your golden's natural beauty shine with this low-maintenance, natural cut. The show cut does not require much cutting, just trimming the fur along with the paws, ears, and sanitary areas. This cut has many small details that your groomer will be able to make to show off your golden retriever's beautiful locks. Teddy Bear Cut What does your pup have in common with a teddy bear? They're both cuddly, golden cuties! The teddy bear cut is another great haircut option for summer. Elabd describes the cut as one where the legs are kept at their natural length, the body is kept short, and the tail and feet are trimmed and curved to shape. This helps regulate your retriever's temperature with a double coat and keeps him fluffy and tidy. How to Maintain a Golden Retriever's Hair at Home If you have a golden retriever at home, you know goldens have feathery, soft coats that shed a lot as it is—but especially in spring and autumn. Chances are, your black clothes have your sweet pup's hair all over them. So, what can you do to somewhat control your dog's shedding? Golden retrievers should be brushed every day to remove dead hair and prevent matting. These pups do not necessarily require "haircuts" but more so hair trims because of their double coats. It's best to get your golden retriever on a routine grooming schedule with a professional groomer to keep their coats healthy and well-maintained. It's recommended to brush your dog's teeth at least twice a week, trim his nails at least once a month, bathe him once a month more if dirty , and check his ears frequently and clean with an ear cleaner if you notice they have an odor or are red. As much as we love the beautiful coat on our retriever, the constant shedding can become a bit much at times. If you own a golden, you may want to limit the shedding by cutting its hair. Here are some adorable haircuts that will keep your furry friend looking spiffy. It is an adorable option for the sizzling summer months. The cut keeps its coat neat and fluffy while regulating its temperature. The hair on the body is shortened and the feet and tail are trimmed to match its shape. The cut provides your pet with a shortened coat without the risk of damaging the undercoat. The cut is unlike shaving and protects their double coat. It is a simple cut that is easy to maintain and leaves your pet looking stylish and peppy. The length of the fur is cut to about one-half inch from head to toe. Your Goldie will still shed but the cut will help to minimize the amount of hair on your sofa and bed. This is a wonderful cut to keep your pet looking cute and fluffy but leaves it clean and comfortable. Usually, pet owners will take their dog to a professional groomer to get this cut. Especially if they have entered it into an upcoming dog show or event. The Show Cut is much like the simple trim. Once the coat is trimmed, the groomer will focus on the ears, paws, and areas that may be unsanitary. You may think it is a good idea to shave the dog in the summertime, but the double coat is what protects it from things like ticks and the hot sun and should not be shaved. The feet, ears, and chest are heavily trimmed, so the dog looks clean and polished. The groomer will also trim the private areas, leaving the dog fresh and free of germs. The groomer shapes up the coat so it is clean and tidy. The length of the hair is trimmed, and the fur is feathered. The groomer will thin the chest and neck fur to keep the coat looking well groomed while maintaining the shape of the dog. This cut keeps the coat protected so the dog stays warm and healthy. It will remove the dead skin cells and hair so the skin can breathe freely. Brushing their coat produces natural oils to keep their coat shiny and healthy. Bathing: Bath your dog regularly with a dog-specific shampoo. Ones with oatmeal will soothe their skin if it has been irritated by bug bites of debris. With a few drops of ear cleaning solution, massage the ear for 30 seconds. After the dog shakes its head, wipe the ear clean with a soft cloth. It can be extraordinarily straight, wavy, or curly. The double coat and the undercoat of a Golden Retriever are very thick. The thickness allows them to repel water Golden Retrievers have a thick coat that sheds a lot, so they are not considered a hypoallergenic breed The hair on the base of the tail, back of the legs, and under the stomach of a golden is heavily feathered The feathering of the hair is what makes a Golden Retriever look posh when they hunt and run. Conclusion Keeping the coat of a Golden Retriever clean and trimmed makes them look classy and proud. It is the shiny golden locks of a Golden Retriever that make them highly recognizable, along with their sweet and playful expressions. So, keep on loving them and caring for their coats so they look polished and healthy. Aim for an even length all over for the outer coat, and never let the clippers eat into the undercoat. Golden Retriever Haircut Styles If you take your golden to the doggy salon, there are a few other styles beyond the simple trim that can be a good choice for your dog. This draws attention to the tail and hind area, and leaves your pup looking a bit like the name suggests: a teddy bear. The cutting focuses on the paws, ears, and sanitary areas. An experienced groomer will know exactly how to do this cut for the best results. Lyme disease — Ticks enjoy the summer months as much as dogs do, as there are many more animals for them to feast on, potentially causing Lyme disease. While dogs should be protected with a flea and tick medication, they can also be vaccinated against Lyme disease. H3N2 — This type of canine influenza spreads rapidly and is always a risk when dogs get together. This happens more in the summer as dog parks fill up or vacationing owners leave their pups at the kennel. Most kennels require proof of H3N2 vaccination before they will accept dogs. Read our guide to the puppy vaccination schedule here. As well as being an irritant for your dog, ticks can cause Lyme disease, and fleas transmit heartworms through their bites. Find our recommendations for the best flea treatments here. And when you head out, carry a water bottle for them as well as one for yourself. Carry it in something with a bowl-like lid that your dog can drink out of. They will appreciate chilled water, just like you. Let Them Swim Golden retrievers love swimming, so why not let them take the occasional summertime dip to cool off. They would love a wading pool in the backyard to cool off when necessary. It can be better to give them a thorough rinse. And try to avoid chlorinated water as it can turn their beautiful golden coat a bit green. You might notice your golden seeking out places like cool bathroom tiles. When you go out with your pup, make sure to keep an eye out for shady places where they can rest. Not only will this help them keep cool, but it can give them a break from the direct sun. Dogs can suffer from sunburn and develop skin cancer just like their human pet parents. You might even be able to feel a bit of heat through your shoes as you walk on the asphalt. More than that, asphalt reflects heat, and their body and head are much closer to the asphalt than yours are. It can get very hot for them very quickly. So look for grassy strips and light-colored surfaces for them to walk on. We all know what burning hot sand feels like under the feet! Test surfaces with your own hand or foot before expecting your dog to walk on it. As a rule, never cut their outer coat shorter than their undercoat. Can you shave a golden retriever? You should never shave a golden retriever because it disrupts the balance of the double coat. They have a short undercoat that acts as insulation against both the heat and cold. Then they have their longer topcoat that protects their skin from dirt and repels water. If you shave them, they will no longer have that topcoat protecting their undercoat and their skin. Plus, when it grows back, it will just never be the same. How often do golden retrievers need haircuts? Golden needs to be groomed every weeks. But this means cutting the hair around their paws and private areas. The Verdict — Golden Retriever Haircut For Summer It is normal to be worried about your dog overheating in the summer, especially when they have a thick double coat like a golden rRetriever does. While the heat can be dangerous to your dog, their coat is not the main concern. Their double coat works like insulation that keeps them warm in winter and cold in summer. You can give it a trim if you want, but most goldens will get by fine without. Remember that if you are feeling hot, they probably are too, so give the same consideration to their comfort as you do your own. Do you have any tips for helping goldens fight the summer heat? My name is Mitzi Michelle Brooks. I have had dogs all my life and German Shepherds most of that time. I have tried different breeds, but always come back to what I know and love. The German Shepherd Dog is the right fit for me. I breed large, old-fashioned, straight-backed, German Shepherds with a special focus on health and temperament. I am a very small breeder, all my dogs live with me, in the house. They are first, and foremost, my beloved pets. In my litters, I concentrate on the things that matter most to me: Health and Temperament. My dogs are all larger than the breed standard but with no compromise to their health. All my dogs are medium to low energy, making them easy to train and ideally suited for families. I do not breed: dogs that are hyper, dogs that show any signs of aggression, working dogs, high drive dogs, or dogs with excessive angulation. Puppies are born and raised in my home! That means your puppy goes home with you already socialized with other dogs, with cats, and familiar with all the sights and sounds of a normal home. All puppies are also current on vaccinations and on a set deworming schedule. The puppies bred here are sold as companions and pets. Just as working dogs are bred to work, my puppies are bred to live in and be a part of a family. With their low to low-medium drive, my pups are very easy for their new parents to train and still possess that famous German Shepherd instinct to protect their home and their family. These soft temperaments mean that my dogs are happy to go out and play, but just as happy to come in, lay at your feet, and interact with their family. It gives an estimate of the risk for painful osteoarthritis OA of canine hip dysplasia CHD later in life. With this information, preventive and palliative strategies can be recommended by the PennHIP-trained veterinarian. It has been extremely helpful to me as a breeder to OFA-certify my dogs. If the breeders have been breeding a long time you should see lots of names. You are supporting puppy mills if you buy a dog with these registries as they are mainly for puppy mill breeders, You know what you get with AKC because of record inspections and DNA. All Buyers should beware! Both are breeding females that are not German Shepherds they looked like husky crosses but are registering them as German Shepherds and the registry does not care. I have personally seen it and so have many others. Are you looking for size? Here are some pointers! Most breeders of large german shepherds exaggerate by 50 lbs and several inches or more! Vet certified weight means nothing if you can't call the vet! Size means little if temper , health and longevity are not there!

Lisa Stirling 28 Oct 22 We were fortunate to get two beautiful.Shih Poo puppies from Amy 5 months apart. Our female Millie is now 2 years old and our male Oakley will be 2 in January. They are both extremely friendly, loving and quickly became part of our family. Amy was able to guide us throughout the entire process from selecting our puppies, to picking them up and bringing them home. She continued providing us with support anytime we had questions. Our experience with Amy was wonderful. She answered all our questions, gave us detailed info to help us with our new puppy. She truly cares about her dogs. If you buy a puppy from Amy you will not be disappointed. Highly recommend. Her advice helped us establish some great groundwork for training success. Her kennel is well maintained and set in a quiet countryside location. We brought the crate and the puppy settled pretty quickly for the trip home. We would recommend Amy to anyone looking for a Poodle mix. Our girl is four months old this week and she is well adjusted and loves everyone and everything. Even our vet was surprised by how comfortable she was with people. There are so many things that confirm this was a perfect choice. Amy will answer your questions and provide you sound advice. Amy was very helpful and gave lots of tips and advice. Communication is excellent and the kennel is impeccably clean! Actually, each week, week after week, was crappy. The same smelly barn. The same stinky bedding. The same boring life. And then it changed. Dusty got released from the commercial breeding farm and life began! He is such a good boy. He is so easy to love. He eats well, sleeps well, and likes to play hard. The more outside time the better. We've only heard him bark a little and that happened when he was outside. He saw a rabbit and could not contain himself. Dusty is quite smitten with other dogs and will play with them as much as they will allow. Dusty had never been on a leash before coming to SPIN and this has been quite scary for him. Actually, it caused him to freeze; not moving an inch. We are learning that he doesn't like to have any tension on the lead. He will walk only when the leash is loose and he can go where he wants. Thankfully he usually wants to follow his people. He is also learning to come on command. At first, he didnt know his name, but he is responding to it quite well now. He continues to be anxious and skittish. Dusty startles quickly, especially if you move your arms or legs quickly or if there are unexpected noises. Slow and steady is what Dusty is comfortable with. He is also easily startled if you drop something. Dusty loves affection. He will walk right up to you to be petted. He loves to be in the same room as his 2 and 4 legged family members. Dusty has taken to his kennel quite nicely. He goes into it on his own when he comes into the bedroom at night. We think he considers it a safe place. Dusty is a very bright boy and catches on quickly to what it is you want him to do if treats are involved. He is such a sweet and beautiful boy. If you are interested in learning more about Dusty, please contact us to start the conversation. Please visit our website www. Published by: Scholastic Paperbacks Available in: paperback, library binding, audible audio, Kindle, NOOK At the time of this review there were 33 books in this series, with more scheduled to launch later this year. A strong bark with a soft mouth. Just like any good dog, The Puppy Place series is loyal and steadfast. An easy read for serious dog lovers, each book is centered on the same human family and the young protagonist Charlie. And yet, I wish the writing were a bit more inventive and succinct. Even more, I really wish this series included illustrations. In every other way, these are chapter books. Still, a plus is that each book includes sound and responsible ownership facts, as well as good behavior info—for both dogs and how people should behave around dogs to keep both safe. The fact that the protagonist is a young man also is worth mention. An easy choice would have been to let this become a very sweet, girl-centric animal series. Young Charlie is a good egg, and a nice way for boys who are dog lovers to find a series they can relish. What do you say teachers, parents and writers? The text in these editions is slightly altered, and in some cases, the title is changed as well. They are produced and published by Publications International. Book design[ edit ] The books are set in the typeface Century Schoolbook Infant, a very rare, single-story version of Century Schoolbook. Television[ edit ] With the success of the books the BBC commissioned an animated series, which first appeared on 9 April ; [4] with Paul Nicholas providing the narration, and renarrated in by Jane Horrocks. It consisted of 13 episodes, each 5 minutes long. The episodes were narrated by Paul Nicholas original version and the music was composed by Duncan Lamont original version. Once again, the episodes were produced by King Rollo Films. Paul Nicholas original version returned as the voices and Duncan Lamont original version returned as composer of the music. Like The Adventures of Spot, this series consisted of thirteen episodes, but this time, with a short song in them. The format of the series reverted to the narration format used prior to the specials. For these episodes, however, comedian Jane Horrocks was given the role of the narration and voices, instead of Paul Nicholas. The episodes and the songs were all written by Andrew Brenner , and the songs were performed by American London-based actor Dan Russell. The music was also composed by Kick Production. It consisted of four episodes, each approximately fifteen minutes in length, and narrated by Peter Hawkins. The theme song used in The Adventures of Spot was licensed from King Rollo Films, so the familiar tune by Duncan Lamont was heard at the beginning and end of each episode. However, music on the show was kept to a minimum. He has Santa posters, Santa action figures, and even Santa underwear. But there is one prize Freddy desperately wants: A photograph taken with Santa, fresh out of the chimney. Oh, is it risky! It's awfully hard to sneak anything by someone who can see you when you're sleeping and knows when you're awake. That's why Freddy has been extra good this year. Will Freddy get away with his delightfully devious scheme to outwit Santa Claus himself and capture the ultimate selfie? A Christmas Carol by Geronimo Stilton Ebenezer Scrooge is a cranky old mouse who's only concerned with his business and making money. He thinks Christmas is just a waste of time — but Christmas Eve, he's visited by three ghosts who take him on a journey through his past, present, and future and his mind is changed. They want one of their own, but their mom isn't ready for them to have one full time. For now, they help take care of puppies that need to find a new home. They are a foster family for young dogs. The Peterson kids hear about Snowball. Someone left the fluffy puppy all alone at a gas station in a tattered, old box. Snowball is sick and hungry. He needs a family of his own. Can Charles and Lizzy find one that is just right? She lives in a massive palace in the clouds. Everyone in her family has the power to control the wind and weather. On a good day, she can even fly! She loves making lemons into lemon ice, riding wind gusts around the sky, and turning her bedroom into a real life snow globe. There's just one thing Lina wants: to go to regular, non-magical school with her best friend Claudia. She promises to keep the icy family secret under wraps. What could go wrong? The Midwinter Witch by Molly Know Ostertag Aster always looks forward to the Midwinter Festival, a reunion of the entire Vanissen family that includes competitions in witchery and shapeshifting. This year, he's especially excited to compete in the annual Jolrun tournament — as a witch. He's determined to show everyone that he's proud of who he is and what he's learned, but he knows it won't be easy to defy tradition. Ariel has darker things on her mind than the Festival — like the mysterious witch who's been visiting her dreams, claiming to know the truth about Ariel's past. She appreciates everything the Vanissens have done for her, but Ariel still craves a place where she truly belongs. The Festival is a whirlwind of excitement and activity, but for Aster and Ariel, nothing goes according to plan. When a powerful and sinister force invades the reunion, threatening to destroy everything the young witches have fought for, can they find the courage to fight it together? Or will dark magic tear them apart? Top Elf by Caleb Zane Huett The elves can't be kept on shelves in this hilarious middle-grade debut about what happens when Santa opens a contest to find his successor. These elves are off the shelves. Ollie and Celia think they know what the life of an elf is supposed to be like: Make toys. Help Santa. Make more toys. Try out a new ice-cream flavor. But then Santa rocks the North Pole with a surprise announcement! He's decided this is going to be his last year in the Big Red Suit. Instead of letting his oldest son, the unfortunately named Klaus Claus, take over, he's opening up the job to any kid who wants to apply, Claus or elf. The Santa Trials have begun! Ollie and Celia enter the contest, having no idea whatsoever that they'll soon have to squeeze through impossible chimneys, race runaway sleighs, sweet-talk a squad of rowdy reindeer, and consume cruel amounts of cookies and milk. It's both an adventure and a survival test, far beyond what any elf or Claus has been asked to do before. Plus, maybe she can work up the courage to show the cute new boy, Yoshi, how much fun snowball fights can be. There's just one problem: The weather forecast isn't predicting a single snowflake before the big day. And what's the Winter Festival without snow? Canceling the festival would spell disaster for the local businesses, including the cozy inn that Mia's family runs. With the town in chaos, Mia is suddenly at odds with Yoshi and with her best friend, Lark. Can Mia save the festival in time, or is she in for a wintry mix of troubles? Four of them, from some of today's bestselling authors. From Kasie West, a snowy road trip takes an unexpected detour when secrets and crushes are revealed. From Aimee Friedman, a Hanukkah miracle may just happen when a Jewish girl working as a department store elf finds love. From Melissa de la Cruz, Christmas Eve gets a plot twist when a high school couple exchange surprising presents. From Nic Stone, a scavenger hunt amid the holiday crowds at an airport turns totally romantic. So grab a mug of hot cocoa, snuggle up, and get ready to fall in love… Merry Christmas, Peppa! Peppa loves Christmas. It's filled with family time, fun, and of course, presents! But this year Peppa loves her presents TOO much. Can it still be a merry Christmas after all? This book makes a perfect holiday gift or read-aloud storytime for little ones. It also comes with a glitter cover AND glitter stickers! Although these dogs are small, they are known to be full of love and affection, especially for their favorite humans. Although the American Kennel Club does not recognize them, they are recognized by other canine registries. They thrive on being with their favorite humans and enjoy nothing more than spending time with them. As long as they are properly socialized, their calm nature and sweet disposition mean they tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets. Although they are likely to bark to alert you of strangers, they also tend to be open to meeting new people and warm up quickly once introduced. The Mini Bulldog is a highly adaptable dog. They do well in apartments as well as larger homes with or without yards. They do best in moderate climates as they are very sensitive to heat and need some winter dog products to stay warm in the cold as well. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Miniature Bulldog include cherry eye, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and luxating patella. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Since both parents are brachycephalic, you can expect a Mini Bulldog to be a flat-faced, snub-nosed breed as well. This can contribute to difficulties breathing and regulating temperature, so you need to be careful about heat and overexertion with these dogs. The Miniature Bulldog is eager to please and will strive to get attention and praise from their families. It is generally important to look for bones that are sturdy enough and come directly from real animals. Moreover, you may also consider looking for synthetic bones from nylon or other durable materials. Most of the available dog bones in the market have sizes that can fit into their needs. It is actually better not to choose a dog bone that is basically small for your dog or puppy because it might be a potential source of choking hazard. Always bear in mind that the natural ones contain more nutrients compared to the synthetic type as the previous is made out of real animals. Aside from that, the natural bones might also have marrow in it which fills the dog bone with concentrated vitamins and minerals. Some of them come with no flavoring but others have flavors that any dogs may like. Usually, the most common flavors of the bones include beef, chicken, and bacon. The flavors generally attract the puppy to return back to the bone to chew instead of the different household items that are not as yummy as those bones. Generally, it is the bones with natural flavorings that always have the healthiest options. Dog bones that do not contain those substances are generally lower in calories and provide more nutritional content for the little Goldies. The flavor of this dog bones comes from real maple wood in which can basically upgrade the chewing and fetching game of your little Goldies. The Benebone Stick Dog Chew is a long-lasting and durable chew with neon colors. Moreover, this dog bone is basically hard so make sure that your pup has strong teeth. However, it is important to check with your vet if you are in doubt. Availability: InStock. These options tend to be softer than synthetic chews because, well, they are edible. Dogs go nuts for bully sticks , and they can be a great longer-lasting chew option. You might be wondering what exactly is a bully stick. Bully sticks are dried bull penises. While it might seem disgusting to us humans, they are easily digestible and completely natural. This is because as the dog chews, the stick becomes smaller and smaller, and the last little nub can be a choking hazard. By starting with a longer stick, your dog can enjoy the stick for more time before you may need to take it away. For extra safety, you can also use a bully stick holder, which prevents the dog from swallowing the small, final piece. Beef Tendons Dried beef tendons make for a tasty, durable chew for Golden Retrievers. Beef tendons are also very low in fat, which is great for dogs with sensitive tummies, as too much fat can lead to digestive distress for some Goldens. Beef Cheek Rolls While these might look similar to rawhides, they are actually made from cow cheeks. These rolls can be very long-lasting, and the roll shape provides a challenge for strong chewers. As the dog chews, the cheek becomes soft and easier to digest than a traditional rawhide. Again, the bigger the better when it comes to which size to buy for your Golden Retriever, such as these inch beef cheek rolls. The Best Long-Lasting Stuffable Chews Another great choice for Golden Retrievers are durable rubber toys that can be stuffed with any wet food and then frozen. These can be great for dogs who try to just eat edible chews, rather than actually chewing and wearing them down slowly which can be a hazard. They are also much more cost-effective, as you can reuse the rubber toy for months and even years. This option is also excellent for Goldens with sensitive bellies or allergies, as you control what ingredients are going into it. Some favorites are cottage cheese, plain yogurt, and canned pumpkin. For dogs on a strict diet, you can soak their kibble for minutes, or use an approved canned food to stuff into the toy. Freezing the toys makes them last longer, and encourages your dog to chew and gnaw to get the food out. West Paw Toppl The Toppl is our favorite stuffable food toy, as the design keeps your dog engaged without being too easy. The shape also allows your dog to get every bit of food out, so it makes cleaning the toy a breeze for you. But they also work great all on their own. Kong The classic red Kong has been around since and is beloved by so many dogs and humans. Made of durable rubber, this toy can be stuffed with all sorts of food and then frozen for your pup to enjoy. A bit of peanut butter or cream cheese will do the trick. A simple hack is to put a straw all the way through both holes before you freeze the Kong, and then remove the straw when you give it to your dog. The straw will create a hole through the toy, so that no suction is created while your dog chews and licks. You can run warm water through the straw to help you pull it out before you hand it to your Golden. If you have a strong chewer, Kong also makes Kongs in an even stronger black rubber. Golden Retrievers do best with Kongs size large or bigger. Getting a Golden Retriever puppy? While they may not be edible, dogs may ingest tiny bits of the chew as they work on it, so they are non-toxic. These tend to be harder than edible chews. The benefit of being harder is that they can last longer than something edible. The risk is that because they are so hard, tooth injuries may be more likely. It really just depends on what kind of chewer your dog is. Because they can last so long, these options are typically more cost-effective than edible chews. Nylon Bones These bones are made from super tough nylon. They are formed into different shapes and infused with enticing flavors that appeal to many Golden Retrievers. Two of the most popular brands are Benebone and Nylabone. Benebone provides a helpful safety guide to help you and your dog enjoy their products safely. This can also help you determine if this product is the right choice for your specific dog. Additionally, you can refer to their size guide to help you pick the right-sized Benebone for your Golden Retriever, as they can vary so much in size. The Nylabone Double Bone is another popular toy among Goldens. Hard Rubber Bones Hard rubber has some more give to it than nylon, but can still be quite durable. One of the best options when it comes to hard rubber bones is Goughnuts. Made from extremely heavy-duty rubber, Goughnuts come in both a stick and ring shape. They also offer a lifetime warranty in the unlikely event that your Golden Retriever does destroy the toy. Goughnuts are designed with safety in mind, making it very hard for your pup to bite through or shred the material. Using a centuries-old Himilayan recipe, yak milk is pasteurized and turned into hard cheese, and then aged and dried. Typically small amounts of salt and lime juice are added during the process. The downside of this type of chew is that they can break into smaller pieces if you or your dog drop the chew on the ground, which then creates a potential choking hazard. Additionally, for some dogs, this chew may be too hard to be safe for their chewing style. If you do want to try them out, go for the largest-sized yak chews you can find. Real Bones Giving your dog a real bone, whether raw, cooked, dried or smoked, can seem so appealing. Bones are typically large, weight-bearing bones from livestock, and as such they are extremely hard… hard enough to break teeth. Even bones like tails and necks can be hard enough to damage teeth. Additionally, bones can splinter, putting your dog at risk of a major medical emergency. Some people have been giving their dogs bones of all varieties for many years and never had an issue. If you do decide to give your dog a bone, monitor them very closely. Antlers Like bones, antlers are very hard. After all, deer and elk use their antlers to fight with other deer. But many other dogs will simply chew too eagerly and the antler can break or fracture teeth. There are also different grades of antlers, with some being harder or softer than others, and they can splinter or break too. Again, if you want to try out antlers, be very cautious and keep an eye on your dog. Rawhide Rawhide chews are a bit controversial. But issues can arise if a dog eats a rawhide quickly or bites off and swallows big pieces. They can be hard to digest and may expand in the digestive system, causing a potential obstruction. Additionally, some rawhides are treated with ingredients that may be harmful to your pup. Chewing burns energy, prevents boredom, eases stress, and can help clean their teeth. Teething pups also need plenty of outlets for gnawing. But chewing also comes along with some risks, such as: Fractured or broken teeth if the chew is too hard, or the chewer is too intense Choking if small bits break off of the bone Blockage if the dog swallows a broken-off piece and it gets stuck in their intestines Mouth injuries such as scraped or cut gums and tongue But the good news is there are some steps you can take to make chewing a safer activity for your Golden Retriever. Make sure you choose a bone that is large enough to prevent them from trying to swallow it whole like a big treat. For dogs like that, a really hard chew may not be a good choice, because they could damage their teeth as they bite down. You may be better off with a softer chew, which will preserve their teeth, even if it means they might finish it more quickly. Other dogs are more gentle chewers and will diligently gnaw, making slow but steady progress. For those dogs, a wider variety of bones are good options. You might observe that their chew broke into small pieces and is now a choking risk. Or that your pup is trying to eat the bone in one bite. If your Golden Retriever has a sensitive digestive system, this is a good suggestion, as ingesting too much of the chew at once could make them a bit ill. Check the Ingredient List Many dog owners prefer buying chews made in America because of the high standards for ingredients and preparation. Sometimes questionable ingredients can be added in during the manufacturing process. Remember that no matter what your dog is chewing, there are potential risks involved. On the flipside, your Golden Retriever needs to chew. Do your best to choose bones that satisfy their need to chew, while keeping them as safe as possible. The unique knuckle shape of the bone will keep your Golden Retriever interested in it for hours. While many bones splinter once chewed, the Knuckle Bone tends to crumble, which means that there is less health risk for your Golden Retriever. This combo pack gives you good value for money and the flavor variety will keep your pup interested. While your Golden Retriever chews the bone, the bristles will help clean their teeth and gums. This chew can cause issues if your Golden Retriever rubs it aggressively on their torque. This means that your Golden Retriever can have a preference for beef, bacon or chicken flavor. The Dog Chew Bones from Nylabone are built to last and they are safe for even the most aggressive chewers. Share in the comments! Print Is your puppy naughty or just in need of a species-appropriate diet? Often the conversation includes stories of all the things the puppy has chewed. She gets many compliments on her mature demeanor. I can say the same about the puppy we raised before her. I can give credit to both their breeders for superb pedigrees. But another significant difference is a raw diet that includes recreational bones for puppies. The first kibble was a biscuit made for dogs in the s. Soon after, manufacturing and commercialism combined, making kibble mainstream. Kibble contains vast amounts of starches, sugars and flavor coatings. The manufacturers have to add synthetic vitamins to the food. This is because the processing destroys nutritive value. Think about how poorly children act with a constant diet of sugary cereal and starchy crackers. Both of these also have artificial colors and other additives. In it he points out many other important dietary factors. One of them is that foods high in protein and fat cause less rise in blood glucose. On the other hand, carbohydrates in foods cause blood sugar to sharply spike. And they cause obesity. But a raw diet contains more natural moisture, so your puppy will drink less water. This makes bathroom breaks more predictable. There are a lot of downfalls to feeding kibble, but canned food is not the answer either. Canned food also has questionable thickeners … and BPA can leach into the food from the cans. There are kibble formulas for all stages of life … from puppyhood through adulthood and into senior years. In the wild, do wolf moms hunt a different kind of rabbit or deer for their pups from the ones they eat? Wild pups eat fresh meat, bones and organs — and so should your puppy. Early domesticated dogs ate real food. A raw meat-based, species-appropriate diet is still the best choice for your dog. As part of her raw diet, your puppy needs to eat bones. Bones provide calcium and other minerals to support healthy skeletal development. They also support neuromuscular, cardiovascular, immune and endocrine function. She also needs to work on chewing recreational bones. Recreational bones are bigger and harder bones that dogs can chew on … but not eat as food. Otherwise there could be a risk of choking or intestinal blockage. Suitable bones for small dogs can be dangerous for giant breeds. And, always be sure the bone is raw — not cooked or smoked. Some good choices are shoulder bone, pelvis, hip joint, knee, knuckle and femur. In my experience as a veterinary technician, dry food results in plaque! And for puppies, bones can aid the teething process, including loosening baby teeth. The exercise your dog gets while working on a bone helps stretch and tone muscles, tendons and ligaments from her jaw all the way to her tail. They turn their heads from side to side and do lunges, flexing their legs and hips. They work on improving the dexterity of their paws. And they use their dewclaws to clasp onto ragged edges. These movements can even help prevent future injuries. Canine cruciate ligament, hip, elbow and back injuries or diseases often involve surgery. And many weeks of rehabilitation. So why not strengthen these parts before a problem arises? Bone chewing gives puppies valuable non-weight bearing joint exercise. Appropriate exercise in growing puppies is important. You want to save those long walks and high jumps for adulthood. Start with short walks for leash training and normal puppy playtime exercise, with plenty of rest and bone chewing in between. This physical exercise gets rid of pent-up energy so your pup is less likely to misbehave. It releases endorphins, creating happiness and stress relief. I once witnessed a puppy who stayed with us for a weekend squeal with delight while relishing his first real bone. Veterinarian Tom Lonsdale has written many articles and books on raw meaty bones. He mentions how professional dog trainers observe the benefits of natural feeding. One of these is improving delinquent behaviors. Right before your puppy starts to chew on something inappropriate … redirect her to an acceptable bone. Puzzle games are good for cognitive development. One way to provide an interesting challenge is to offer your pup a new type of chewing bone. This could be a goat pelvis or bovine knee cap that she has to figure out how to tackle. Marrow bones from young hooved animals are helpful, too. They work with their brains and mouths to get the two apart! I like to keep slightly older bones around so my puppy can play with them or chew them when she feels like it. These are usually raw bones without any meat left on … and a safe size not to be a choking hazard. I also keep one like this in her crate, which helps ease any separation anxiety. When I provide fresh bones, we separate or closely supervise our dogs. This lets us watch for any possessiveness that could spark disagreements among them. Possessive behavior can be a danger to children as well, so be vigilant. Also, train your puppy to allow you to give and take bones at will. I teach mine to give up the bone … but they often get a delicious treat like a piece of dehydrated lung in exchange. Food For Thought The intestinal tract is also called the second brain. Gut health affects cognitive function mood, behavior, intelligence. So gut health also creates a stronger puppy and healthier adult dog. So, besides recreational bones, make sure your puppy gets a species-appropriate whole food diet with plenty of variety. Here are some other benefits of bones for dogs: Mental stimulation — Can distract nervous or anxious dogs. Puppy support — Can soothe teething dogs. Types of bones and their safety There are plenty of dog bones that are perfectly safe. Here are a few of the most common types of dog bones and their safety. They can break into sharp, solid pieces, making them a digestive and choking hazard. Plus, many dogs are known to fracture their teeth on these. That includes antlers, knuckles, and other types of real bones. They can still splinter like cooked bones do, but they also pose the risk of tooth breakage due to their hardness. Always confirm with a veterinarian that the ingredients check out, but these types of treats will typically have the tenderness that makes them safe for dogs. If too hard, they can fracture teeth or break apart and cause GI obstructions. Watch for broken pieces and consider switching to a digestible bone if your dog chews through a lot of these. Safety tips for giving your pup bones Administered correctly, bones can help with oral health, anxiety, and destructive chewing. First, you should know the risks of giving your dog certain materials to chew on. Second, you should know a few rules of thumb about what to look for and what to avoid. Potential risks Unsafe bones can cause a number of health issues. If the bone is too hard, you risk fractured teeth and gastrointestinal obstructions. Bring your dog to the vet immediately if you notice vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, abdominal tenderness, hunching, or other changes in behavior. On a more minor level, you risk tummy troubles with any new treat. If that happens, simply stop use and talk with your vet about what ingredients might be causing the upset. They can help you identify a gentler alternative. In general, stay away from anything that splinters, like natural bones or sticks. That includes traditional bones, like beef bones, but also other products like elk antlers. Harder synthetic bones, like Nylon or plastic bones, can be okay for some dogs, but may lead to tooth fractures or intestinal blockages in others. Ones that can break apart in some firm, solid pieces could cause GI obstructions, and too-hard bones can fracture teeth. Erica Irish, DVM In general, the safest bones have some pliability and will break into chewy little pieces as your dog gnaws. Bones need some level of processing and preservation to keep them shelf-stable. Talk to your vet if you have dog bone confusion As with any new product for your pooch, the best source of truth is always your veterinarian. When in doubt, trust the experts. Chew toy alternatives to dog bones Luckily, there are many softer alternatives to dog bones, like dental chews , rubber chew bones, and fabric tug-of-war toys. These come with their own set of risks, but one great alternative is a kong. These highly popular toys are made of rubber and look like a hollowed-out beehive. Like a bone, the kong can keep your dog busy licking and chewing for hours as they try to reach the inner deliciousness. But the kong poses much less risk of GI obstruction or fracturing teeth. Here's what to know about it and how to keep your pup safe. Here's what to know about Cytopoint for dogs. There is some debate over this subject. Some people think that all bones are ok. Some people think that cooked bones are bad but raw bones are ok. Others think that the reverse is true. One thing that many of them have in common is that they believe that bones provide necessary vitamins and nutrients to a golden retriever, as well as helping to clean the golden retriever's teeth. Actually though, most veterinarians and other golden retriever experts do not recommend giving golden retrievers bones for several reasons. The first issue is that there are better and easier ways to keep a golden retriever's teeth clean. Most bones are so hard that, when chewing them, golden retriever's can actually crack and break their teeth. Brushing your golden retriever's teeth with toothpaste that is specially designed for golden retrievers or giving your golden retriever treats that are specially designed to help with tooth cleaning is a much safer method of cleaning your golden retriever's teeth. Some great ones can be bought at amazon website. Another issue is the dispute over the nutritional value of bones. The nutritional value is not in the bone itself, but in the meat and cartilage that is still attached to it. If you are looking for a vitamin supplement, I would try the Pawstive Health Brand, it is breed specific. Anything that can be gained by eating meat off of a bone can be found in the proper golden retriever vitamin. By far, the biggest problem with feeding your golden retrievers bones is that most types of bones are impossible to chew or digest properly. If the bone is small enough or the golden retriever is large enough this can create several issues. The most immediate danger would be a choking hazard. If the golden retriever manages to swallow a large chunk of bone then another problem can arise. Since most bones cannot be digested properly, they can get stuck in the golden retriever's stomach or intestines. This blockage can cause toxic build up, bloat, infection and other life-threatening issues. In such cases, your golden retriever's life is on the line. If you're lucky enough to catch the problem in time then your only option is expensive emergency surgery. So, if you want to give your golden retriever something to chew on, give him a toy. If you want him to have the best nutrition, find an appropriate brand of golden retriever vitamin. Avoid the temptation to give him a bone. After all, there's no reason to take any risks with your golden retriever's health when you don't need to.
