If we are lucky enough that our young golden passes, we will move forward to the next health testing stage. The next health test that we typically conduct once our young golden is 1. While they are sedated to have these x-rays we usually also have Penn Hip testing done. Also, per our vet the Penn Hip is a better test to know the overall health of the hips as they test the elasticity and movement rather then judging based on an image. Last health test we do is done at the age of 2 years old. As the dogs age their bones calcify, a dog with failing elbow or hips younger then 2 could very well change to passing once they turn 2. Under each dog there is a link from K9 data. Unfortunately K9 data will not allow preliminary testing information in the link which is the OFA elbow and hip test results if the dog is under 2 years of age when the test is conducted. However we do list the preliminary test results under each dog. Once we have the official results K9 data will be updated to reflect their latest test results. I do not conduct my own x-rays and that would require a visit to the animal hospital. To reduce stress on mom and the puppies we do not do x-rays. I get a final count upon delivery keeping mom where she is most comfortable. Delivery of puppies take place in my home around the days after being bred, unless an emergency C-section requires otherwise. Typically, all our puppies are delivered naturally. Someone is always with the mother for the entire delivery. It is very strenuous but has the best outcome for both mom and pups. When all the puppies are born, we will post pictures on the Facebook page. We will then reach out to anyone on our waiting list. If by chance, there are any extra puppies we will make an announcement on Facebook after exhausting our wait list. Sometimes people back out and puppies do come up available at various times. During the initial few days into the few weeks mom and puppies are spending a lot of quality time together. The fourth week they are starting to find their legs and moving around exploring. The Golden Pyrenees parent enjoys its food and has been seen at pounds kg if its owner does not control its food. It will probably be capable of covering a lot of ground in each stride. The well-feathered tail will probably be carried gaily. The coat will usually be mostly cream with gold, white, brown, or gray patterns. It can also be tricolor and, strangely enough, completely black, which is an arresting sight. If the Retriever parent genes dominate, it will be silkier and smoother. Either way, this mix will have a double coat with a warm and rather soft undercoat and a medium-length to slightly longer outer coat. Temperament Your Great Pytreiver will probably be extremely affectionate. They will bark, get into trouble, and even become destructive. You will have to socialize and train them well enough to accompany you to work if you live alone. They are intensely social. Left alone, it will play with toys, bark when it is bored and leave to search for you, unless you have installed robust fencing. Can Be Aggressive and Unruly If Untrained Your dog can take up to four years to mature completely and will retain its playfulness beyond that. The Pyrenees parent already has a tendency to sit and watch the world go by, and apartment living would likely turn this mix into a couch potato. This would be doing the dog an injustice. Is a Perfect Watchdog Keeping its family safe is a priority for this mix, and it will make the perfect guard dog. It will be reliably noisy in alerting you to strangers. Could Be Suitable for Senior Citizens An older person, who is fit enough for one-hour walks twice a day, could adopt an older dog and enjoy a healthy mutual companionship for years. It would not be advisable for an older person to have to deal with a puppy or an adolescent Golden Pyrenees. Both parents, and especially the Golden Retriever, are perfect candidates for this work. Both breeds have also worked as war messengers and in search and rescue. Tends to Get Along with Other Pets If Properly Introduced Its ancestry dictates that your Golden Retriever Great Pyrenees mix will get along with any animal that constitutes its family, including cats, birds, fish, gerbils, mice, and other dogs. Take care to do the first introduction to other dogs in a neutral space. Consider putting plugs in their ears if they are going to be underwater. If you are boating, be sure they are wearing well-fitting life jackets. The Pyrenees is 64th, but makes up for this in its intuition. It might be tricky to understand your dog, which could appear aloof and be seriously laid-back. Pick a high quality dog food and stick to a feeding schedule; two feedings per day could be ideal to keep this pooch happy. They also need an exercise schedule. A 30 minute hike, walk, or game of fetch, plus an hour of active running around a yard will help burn off pent up energy. Check their ears for debris and pests daily and clean them as recommended by your vet. Keeping them clean and dry is the best way to avoid doctor visits. If your dog develops a pungent aroma or is scratching their ears excessively, they may have an ear infection and will require a vet exam. They should not be clicking against the floor. Your groomer can help with this. You should brush their teeth a minimum of three times a week. Clean your dogs eyes as you would your own. You can use a cloth or your fingers to wipe away discharge or debris that collects in the corners. Boxador Feeding An ideal Boxador diet should be formulated for an active, medium- to large-sized breed. Limit their amount of treats, as well. The main colors of Boxadors are; black, brown, brindle, and white. Rarely solid, their coats typically have a blend of two or more colors. Luckily, their coats are very easy to groom. A good brushing per week will probably do. They may self groom and are considered a pretty clean dog.
