A F1b Labradoodle has been back-crossed to a poodle in an effort to insure a non-shedding coat. Even though most f1b Labradoodles shed very little or not all, it is impossible to guarantee that any dog even doodles or purebred poodles will not shed at all. Additionally, during activity, blood flow to the kidneys is decreased and diverted to the muscles. After rest, normal blood flow returns to the kidneys, and urine output is increased. High amounts of activity are normal for a Golden Retriever puppy. In fact, they can often border on crazy , because of their insane activity levels. So, be diligent because they will often stop suddenly to go pee during these times. BAR often would need to pee during exercise and play Diet What a puppy eats can impact its need to urinate. For example, diets rich in moisture-rich foods can increase fluid intake and result in more urination. For example, giving your puppy some wet or raw dog food or adding some water to its kibble increases fluid intake. Or, your puppy may be getting more moisture-rich foods in snacks. For example, cucumbers, apples, and other moisture-rich foods can increase hydration levels and peeing frequency. In contrast, if your puppy eats dry kibble and snacks, such as the freeze-dried liver, it may pee less. Regardless of the diet, always ensure your puppy has lots of fresh water. Hydration The more your puppy drinks, the more it will pee. As mentioned previously, both diet and activity levels can impact hydration levels. However, weather can also impact the amount of water consumed. For example, puppies need more water on hot summer days to cool themselves adequately, including indoors if there is no air conditioning in the home. In the winter, drier weather can also cause a puppy to drink more. Ensure your puppy is not left outside too long on summer days, and always make sure there is an adequate water supply both inside and out. Stress Stress can be in the form of fear, anxiety, or even excitement. These intense emotions can both increase or decrease urination. This form of peeing is called excitement urination, and it can happen when a puppy is excited. It is normal for puppies, and most puppies outgrow this over time. Puppies can also urinate when you are leaving due to separation anxiety. In addition, puppies may urinate from the emotional distress and fear of you leaving and them being alone. Puppies may also urinate from harsh punishments such as yelling or physical reprimands, and this stems from fear. Often submission urination in puppies or dogs is due to being fearful or highly anxious. Please keep training positive and rewarding. It will save you from behavioral problems down the road. Medical Issues While medical issues in puppies are thankfully rare, they can occur and may impact urination. A UTI is caused by bacteria. While your puppy may need to pee more frequently, very little comes out, and it may leak, strain to pee, or pee in the house. Again, most puppies are healthy and medical issues causing urination problems are mostly rare. It is important to remember that puppies under 3 months of age typically have limited bladder control and reflexes and need to be house-trained. In other words, they pee a lot, so expect accidents — a lot of them, especially early on. However, call your veterinarian if you feel your puppy is peeing more or less than usual. Often, they can determine over the phone if your puppy needs to come in for an exam. Recognizing these patterns will help you in your potty training because you can be proactive in getting your dog out quickly when it needs to do its business. Typical times when your Golden Retriever puppy will need to go out to pee include: When waking up: either in the morning or after a nap After meals Within an hour after drinking water During or after play Before bed These are the most common times your puppy will need to go pee. But, for a good reason, the first on that list is after sleeping, especially in the morning. When getting up in the morning, take your puppy out first thing. Not after a cup of coffee or your shower, but before you do anything else. Consider that your puppy has a small bladder, and if it has held it most of the night, it has to relieve itself. So if you have to go, it has to go worse. Other typical times include after meals and after drinking water. Be on the watch as puppies often go potty within 30 to 60 minutes after eating or drinking. We set BAR up for success. Taking him outside after sleeping and meals meant we could reward him easily for going potty outside This is an excellent time to keep your puppy in sight. The same applies during play. You might see your puppy suddenly stop, sneak away, and start sniffing, circling, or squatting. Then, quickly but calmly , pick the puppy up and take it outside. In this way, a puppy is tethered to you, and you are more able to catch accidents before they happen. And always take the puppy out before bed. This is a good habit to instill earlier. Allowing the dog to relieve itself before bed ensures the bladder is emptied before sleep. Golden Retrievers puppies also poop a lot. They are also eager to please and learn. So, potty training should happen quickly if you are positive, aware, and consistent. There are many great resources on how to teach your Golden Retriever puppy to go outside. Still, there are a few rules you should always follow to make it as easy as possible. In addition, to the common times noted above, ensure that you: Keep a consistent schedule; this pertains to trips outside, feeding, and exercise. Patterns are built around consistency. Provide regular exercise outside — outside exercise gives opportunities for the puppy to pee outside and for you to reward quickly for that behavior. Signs or patterns of when your puppy will need to go will become clear if you observe and supervise. Use a house line to keep the puppy visible and within reach. They can sneak away like little Golden puppy ninjas. Keep rewards with you always. One of the biggest mistakes people make when training a puppy is missed opportunities. Ensure that if your puppy does something you want, you always have treats on hand to reward behaviors you want. The puppy must learn potty time is for peeing and pooing. Golden Retriever Puppy and Housebreaking Golden Retriever Puppy and Housebreaking If you have a Golden Retriever at your home, it is understandable that you want him to do his business outside the house. Housebreaking of the new Golden Retriever puppy should begin the moment the puppy enters your house. And your foremost concern is to train your Golden Retriever puppy not to urinate all over your place. If he has to go, he will go. The puppy will most probably have the ability to control his pee when he reaches three months. In the meantime, expect the Golden Retriever puppy to urinate about six times a day. This means that housebreaking your new Golden Retriever puppy will take patience, time, and a lot of work. If you make use of proper techniques to train your dog for the same, this process will not take much time. Along with Golden Retriever house training, you should also provide him crate training. This will make them understand the fact that they do not have to soil their crate. If they are trained properly, they will never soil their crate unless they cannot help it or if they have diarrhea. The first thing you need to know about your Golden Retriever puppies is that they need to relieve themselves a lot. They tend to pee after naps, play sessions, drinking water and even otherwise. The puppy senses that it is what you want — to pee in this place only. But be patient with your pet. Rushing him will not make him understand your purpose in the first place. Dog trainers advise that you give your young Golden Retriever pet about ten minutes to complete his business. When your puppy goes out to his business, do not forget to praise him in a happy voice till the time he is finished with it. You will see your pup responding well to your happy and excited voice. While the process of golden retriever house training is still on, the pup might accidentally pee inside the house. Do not scold him for this. Prefer to say nothing. Your pup will himself understand the difference between happy praise outside and dead silence inside the house when he does his business. Crate training offers numerous and continuous benefits throughout the life of your dog. As a tool for house training, it enables you to prevent mistakes and promote positive experiences within your home. It also gives you and your puppy a much-needed break from the stresses of training and constant supervision. Constant supervision. To avoid house-training mistakes, you have to constantly watch your puppy. Because just one mistake will create a major setback for your pup and it only takes seconds for them to have an accident. Paper training. While teaching your puppy to toilet in the house may not seem like an ideal choice, I use paper training when my pups have almost no bladder control until around 8 to 10 weeks of age. I always recommend avoiding paper training if possible. It makes training your pup to toilet outside harder, and it sends a confusing message to your puppy. They will have fewer opportunities for mistakes, which will create more positive experiences. This will allow for a faster and cleaner road to success when house training, and as an added benefit, your puppy will develop impeccable house manners a lot more quickly. Dogs will instinctively keep their den clean. Start by restricting your puppy to just one room of your home. When they are reliably keeping that clean, you can slowly expand the area where your dog is allowed. Each part of your home is a separate place to your dog. Not only will this speed up the house training process, but it will also reduce the number of accidents and the number of times you have to deep clean your carpets. Who can argue with that? What and How You Feed Your Pup is Incredibly Important Not all dog food is created equal, and what you feed your puppy is one of the most important decisions you will make regarding the care of your pup. This decision has a huge impact on house training, and the overall health of your dog. They will be happier, easier to train, and more relaxed because they will know what to expect from you. A routine should include set times for eating, training, exercise, and toileting. As for house training, a schedule will make things easier for your puppy and for you. Conversely if you feed your puppy randomly throughout the day, they will defecate just as randomly. When your puppy is young, food travels quickly through their digestive system. As they grow, the digestive process takes longer and longer. If you stick to a schedule with your puppy, you can count on them using the toilet on a pretty regular basis. They will usually have to poop three to six times a day, but their urination habits might be harder to figure out. Plan on taking your puppy out to their designated bathroom spot on a consistent schedule based on their needs. Every puppy will be different. This will give you ample opportunity to praise your puppy for doing the right thing, which is a huge benefit to teaching the right habits. Do these strict routines seem like too much to handle? We all have a life to live outside of house training — your best is good enough. Keeping and following a written schedule may seem excessive, but for very little extra effort, the results are phenomenal. Try to feed them every four hours at the same time every day. Schedule the first meal of the day based on whatever time you wake up, and adjust the rest of the meals accordingly. Meals should be spaced eight to twelve hours apart. A note on drinking water: Your puppy should always have fresh drinking water available. Because drinking too much or too little water is a sign of health problems, you should monitor how much your pup drinks in a day. Your pup will usually have to go outside after any physical activity. If you schedule these bouts of playtime, exercise, or training, you will encourage predictable potty times as well. Schedule these activities to fit your schedule, just try to do them at the same time every day while your pup is learning. As your day progresses, jot down whenever your puppy uses the toilet, and what activity they were doing beforehand. Make note of when and where they have accidents in the house, and what activities they were doing before the accident. Lastly make note of all the times that you brought your dog outside, but they refused to go. As you get to know your pup, you will start to see pottying patterns that will help you and your puppy avoid mistakes in the future. This will look different for every puppy, but in general, you can start to stretch out the time between bathroom breaks about five minutes every three or four days. By the time your pup is five or six months old, they should be using the toilet every four hours during the day. Choosing and Using the Designated Bathroom Spot To make house training easier for both you and your puppy, you should choose a designated toilet area in your yard. A single bathroom area is much easier to clean than your whole yard too! Choose a spot that you can keep clean. An area with tall weeds might seem like a good idea at first, but if you neglect the spot for too long, your dog will refuse to go there. Taking Your Puppy to The Bathroom Spot In a perfect world, you would take your puppy to their designated spot, where they would empty themselves quickly and completely on command, and be ready to move on. This can be a reality most of the time , provided you follow these tips when using the bathroom spot. Use a cue word. When your pup is young, you should use the cue word whenever they use the toilet in the proper spot. When they are older and understand the word or phrase, you can say it when you want them to do their business, which will lead to faster results. Keep your puppy on a leash when toileting. Be boring, and just hold the leash until they start to go. If you get too excited when using your cue word, your puppy might not finish, and will end up emptying inside your home. Say the cue word once, and stand still while they finish up. A what? You may want to keep food rewards to a minimum when your pup is young. Remember, what goes in, must come out. I recommend staying out for up to five minutes. If your pup responds to your cue word, you can say it every thirty seconds or so. Then, bring them back to the designated spot and try again. Do not let them wander unattended — they may decide to sneak off and use your carpet. After ten minutes, head back out to your spot for another go.

I especially love using this toy for puppies who are just getting the hang of playing fetch. For puppies, picking up on how to play fetch can be tough. Balls that squeak or make noise when thrown help to make the game more exciting and help encourage young pups to chase whatever is making that high pitched sound! Leashes, Harnesses, and Collars Collars, leashes, and harnesses are important tools to help socialize your puppy. Getting your puppy used to wearing a leash, harness, and collar is an important step towards socializing them. So even though your Labrador puppy will outgrow his harness and collar quickly, I still suggest investing in these items. Here are five of my favorite leash, harness, and collar products for Labrador Retriever puppies. As I mentioned above, puppies are especially fragile so steer clear of attaching a leash to their collar and try to help them adjust to wearing a harness that is comfortable. What I like about this harness is that it is adjustable so you can use it a bit longer as your puppy grows. Best of all it is the perfect length five feet for puppy training and is a leash your Lab puppy can take with him into adulthood. It is built like a standard leash, but it offers you control over how far away your puppy can get. This is excellent for puppy parents who live in busy neighborhoods or who are working with a puppy who likes to wander. Large breed puppies like Labrador Retrievers require crates that grow with them. This is why I love crates that come with dividers so that they can grow with your Lab puppy. I also recommend playpens, as Labrador puppies are notorious for being very active and energetic. Lab puppies are also incredibly curious and tend to chew a lot in their first few months, which is why indoor dog gates will also be an important part of puppy proofing your home. Take a look at some of my favorite puppy-proofing products below. Nobody likes cleaning up potty accidents. Of course, no one wants a big, bulky pen that takes up half of their home either! These gates are also not ideal for leaving puppies unsupervised as they can sometimes find ways to knock them down. Grooming your Labrador puppy early on not only helps to socialize him and prepare him for a life of vet visits, groomer visits, and physical contact with people, but it also helps to keep him clean and healthy. Like babies, puppies are more sensitive to certain products and require products that are specifically designed to be gentle on their sensitive skin and fur. Be selective of the shampoos, dog brushes , and other grooming products you pick for your Labrador puppy and make sure you always use high-quality products. Appearance The English Lab is considered a medium to large dog breed. They stand between .Male Labradors are normally heavier than female Labradors. They also have a medium length, thick tail which was originally used for propelling them through the water like a rudder. Coat The English Lab has a single coat which is short, stiff and dense. Because they are so good-natured, they can make great playmates for children and are very loyal to their family. They have been known to come to their owners rescue and are fearless. English Labs are quite active dogs and are best suited to an active family. They love their people and can get on very well with other animals in the home too. They do need training and socialization, as do all dogs, but their intelligence makes this extremely easy! Providing you can give them lots of love and attention, the English Lab is an excellent dog to have in the home and is even ideal as a first pet or for those with no experience with dogs. Lifespan English Labradors have an average life expectancy of between 10 and 12 years. Known Health Issues Labradors are known for being a healthy dog, but they can suffer from two main health problems. The first is elbow dysplasia and hip dysplasia, which is a result of abnormal development in their hip or elbow joints. It can result in pain, discomfort, lameness and an altered gait. Fortunately, the Labrador is a very easy breed to take care of and is often recommended for first time dog owners.
