All our dogs live indoors with us we do not have kennels so our puppies are well socialised with us and our extended doggy family. We start puppies on whistle recall at 4 weeks old, which they tend to do really well at, and also start toilet training the puppies to grass outside. Naturally the puppies still live indoors, but they are given regular access to our garden weather permitting - at no point do we move them to live outside. PUPPY VISITS After prospective owners have completed a questionnaire, we begin to match available puppies with prospective homes; we find that matching puppies to owners increases the likelihood of a successful placement and therefore a forever home. However this means that if you are invited to a puppy visit you will not have the choice of the whole litter, instead you will be matched to a specific puppy that has been identified as suitable from your questionnaire answers. From our side, if when meeting you we feel you are not suitable owners for one of our puppies, then a puppy will not be sold to you. Amongst other things, we look at the puppies' energy level, confidence, drive, attitude, biddability and overall temperament to make an informed decision; this is why filling in our puppy questionnaire accurately is so important. After a puppy visit there is a 48 hour cooling off period for both parties to consider if the puppy is a suitable match. If we both decide the answer is yes, then a non-refundable deposit is required which is payable by bank transfer. This deposit will only be refunded in the case of something going wrong on our end, e. The remaining balance for the puppy must then be paid by bank transfer at least 48 hours before collection. The receipt of sale is included within the puppy contract which both parties will sign, along with both parties signing the Kennel Club's endorsement paperwork. If either party decides not to go ahead, a deposit will not be requested. Please make sure you arrive on time for your puppy visit as we plan visits around our dogs' feeding and exercise; the visit lasts for 1 hour. However please be aware that sometimes at puppy visits the puppies may have just fallen asleep, so they might not be as excited as you are to come and visit them. These pups will have the best head start available. Should I crate train my puppy? This is up to you. It is a great tool for potty training. We will have an open crate in with them and they will be familiar with them. If you will have your puppy in a crate please start as close to 8 weeks of age as possible. Our adult dogs are very comfortable going in to their crate, even if we only use them once a month, as they used them while they were younger. A crate should not ever be used as a punishment. Please read up on crate training if you would like to know more about it. It is an excellent way to potty train and our GSD loves her crate. Will my puppy cry at night? All puppies go through some sort of anxiety when they have left their mom. Expect crying or barking, especially at night. When they stop is the time to praise them or give a treat. You can leave a TV or radio on near them so that they can hear human voices during this process. The puppy must learn that you will not always be around. This can be sad, annoying, or even make you crazy. Patience is the key, you will need to wait it out and never punish the dog for this behavior. Reward when they have stopped crying and these brilliant dogs will get it. Each puppy will come with their own blanket or towel that smells like their mother and siblings. What do I feed my puppy?
