It was my understanding that when the cord was chewed down to the base of the belly it was sometimes difficult to get it to stop bleeding. I took the hemostat and pinched the umbilical cord about 2 inches from the base of the pups belly then cut the cord rather than let Raven chew it off. I kept the hemostat on the cord for about 2 minutes to let it clout. The umbilical cord dries up quickly and then within a day or 2 it falls off. Raven was a good mama and took care of her poops. Puppy eyes and ears are closed at this stage and puppies army crawl around the whelping box looking for a teat to suckle. We did everything we could to make sure our pups stayed warm by adding a watt heat lamp to the whelping box and portable heating unit in the puppy room. As I mentioned Raven stayed in the whelping box most of week 1 and of course… the puppy piles! One thing I learned is if I had a puppy on my lap then do not let Raven lick those areas or be prepared for a little accident on your lap. While caring for Raven and her litter Raven was really blowing out her coat that first week, but as time went on it slowed down. I heard from other friends this is common and that Raven blew out her coat much less than other mama dogs. We got Probiotics for Raven before her first litter, but forgot to order them for her second litter. How many times per day should my puppy be fed? We feed puppies, weeks old 3 x per day. We try to keep them on a schedule such as: a. Once the puppy reaches 12 weeks, we cut them back to eating 2 x per day, eliminating the noon feeding. Increase the amount you feed based on the recommendations you will find on the dog food bag as suggested by weight of the puppy. We do not recommend free feeding — give your puppy about 20 minutes to eat, then pick it up and put it away. Water should be provided at all times, except during the night. Most puppies that will mature to a medium size will need a large crate once they have reached maturity. Plastic crates are an option as well. If you have any questions please ask us. What type of collar and leash do I need and what size is best for my puppy? We like to buy the less expensive, adjustable-type of collars and a nylon leash. We do not care for the expandable leashes that allow the puppy to walk way out in front or way off to the side of you. The smallest setting for the collar would be about 8 inches and expanding out from there. We use small carabiners to attach the stretched chain between the collar and the leash. This will prevent your puppy from chewing your new leash. If you are reserving a small size pup then I would suggest an XS collar. Another option while they are very young is a slip leash style. Some families like to train in harnesses. This is also a tool you can use. Sizes will vary from company to company, but most go off of weight. Ask us the estimated weight of your future puppy at the time they will go home so you will have a rough idea of what to purchase. It is never a bad idea to weight to buy until you can size your puppy in person though as each harness will fit differently. You can play the radio softly if your puppy is in a different room from you as this is how they were raised with us. You have to find a system that works for you. Equal parts old food and new food on days three and four. And three parts new food to one part old food for two more days after that. Dolly, also known as "The General", is a poodle, and a near-legendary member of the Pound Puppies network. She was one of Cookie's personal heroes. Appearance[ ] Dolly looks like a stereotypical poodle. She mainly has pink fur, but some of it is light baby powder pink. Her eyes are a darker grayish-pink with two black eyelashes on each eyelid and has a black nose. She has a perm that connects to her ears. On each ear she wears two bows, one purple, the other blue. She has the light baby powder pink fur around her neck, on her rear, tufts of it on her ankles, and on the tip of her tail, in a round-like shape. She also has a purple bow on her tail. She speaks with a heavy Southern accent. Unlike regular Pound Puppies, she has a pink hexagonal gem stone on her red collar. Profile[ ] When she first arrived at Shelter 17 In " The General " , she tasked the Pound Puppies to get 67 puppies adopted, and acted very feminine and manipulative, using her looks to get the male dogs to do things for her. Cookie later confronted Dolly about this, but Dolly responded by saying it was how she motivated others. Dolly then offered to help make Cookie more feminine. The next day, Cookie, all dolled up and acting ladylike, ended up taking the act too far and disrupting their adoption scheme. Dismayed, Dolly admitted to Cookie that she was wrong to try and change the boxer, convincing her to return to her old attitude in time to save the adoption scheme. Before departing, Dolly gave Cookie a simple pink bow as a way of reminding the other dogs of her femininity. In " King of the Heap ", Dolly made a brief cameo, applying makeup to Cookie so it would look like a prospective adoptee, Tyson , had beaten her up. In " Taboo ", Dolly gave the titular puppy a bath, only to be soaked when his "bad luck" caused the bath tub to break. However, a malfunction in communications prevented her from telling them what kind of animal Rover was. In " Mutternal Instincts ", Dolly was among many international Pound Puppy operatives known collectively as "the D7 " visiting Shelter .In " Barlow ", Dolly and Dash Whippet visited Shelter 17 to see Dash's grand-pups get adopted, but the visit was not what they expected, as they ended up joining the Pound Puppies on their mission. Happy and easy-going, the Sheepadoodle has a tender heart that responds best to positive training. The luxurious, soft, non-shed coat requires regular grooming. Active without being hyper, Sheepadoodles require regular age-appropriate exercise and mental stimulation and can be an excellent choice for active singles or families that also enjoy their relaxation time. Although Sheepadoodles make wonderful family pets, it is important to note that they need a firm hand and can be prone to herding, especially small children. The Sheepadoodle Coat Sheepadoodles, and Olde English Sheepdogs are born with the black and white puppy coat with the exception of the brindles. They go through a few coat changes as they mature. After the puppy coat, you will start to see a lighter grey coming in at about months, usually starting around the back of the legs, across the shoulders then gradually turning a lighter grey. This is called the junior coat. The coat will continue to change to the fully mature coat, at around years old. However, some Sheepadoodles, as with OES do not change, and will stay black and white. It's all in the genes and we can't be sure which ones will change. We're told MOST do, but we do not ourselves have enough experience with the coats to make that claim. We will continue to ask our Sheepadoodle customers for coat updates. As a side note, we would expect that the brindles would grey out sooner than the black and white puppies because brindle is itself a fading gene. Sheepadoodles are beautiful dogs inside and out. They tend to be extremely friendly and absolutely love their families. Because they are mixed with a Poodle, there is a chance that their coat will be low-shedding. Their kind disposition and energetic personality make them a good fit for families. Although they are not purebred dogs, and therefore are not recognized by the AKC, they are recognized by other dog registries and clubs. In addition to making a great family pet, Sheepadoodles also make great therapy dogs. A well-socialized Sheepadoodle is an intelligent and active dog who tends to be naturally friendly, calm, and sociable. They tend to get along well with other dogs, pets, and children. Sheepadoodles tend to be expressive and intuitive. They seem to innately know how to be gentle and quiet with younger children. They are a combination of a companion and working dog that loves their family and is devoted to them. This dog breed is moderately adaptable. They respond best to positive ongoing training methods that are consistent. The low-shedding coat is one of the reasons why there are so many Poodle mixes. Sheepadoodle coats can vary from straight to curly and coat colors can be any combination of those common in Poodles. This means you can have a Sheepadoodle that is black, brown, gray, white, or a mix of colors. They only need to be bathed as needed, so having it done while at the groomer is usually a good fit. Floppy ears are more likely to trap dirt, debris, and moisture, which makes them more prone to ear infections. Dental disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. It is also one of the most preventable. By implementing good dental care for dogs early on, you can decrease the tartar buildup that causes gum disease and tooth decay. A Sheepadoodle is a high-energy dog breed. They need plenty of exercise and structured exercise routines to be happy and healthy. Their high energy and intelligence mean they need a lot of daily exercise and plenty of mental stimulation to avoid boredom. Giving them a job to do can help satisfy their working dog tendencies. They also tend to love water, so going swimming with your dog can be a good activity. Because they are also sociable, taking a trip to the dog park could be another great way to get rid of excess energy. Just make sure you keep activities low impact until puppies finish growing to avoid damaging developing joints. Fully-grown Sheepadoodles usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Generally, Sheepadoodles 20 inches or shorter are considered Mini Sheepadoodles. Sheepadoodles generally live for years on average. They are pretty excited to get to their food bowls at feeding time and will knock them over in a heartbeat. I like the bowls that are tip proof, and skid proof. I use the stainless steel type with a rubber ring around the bottom to keep them from sliding. Not the prettiest ones out there by any means, but they are effective less mess and the stainless is easy to sanitize. Feeding time is also a great opportunity for training. We breed only health tested parents with calm temperament. It is our belief clients can learn a lot about their future puppy just by getting know the parents. We ask all clients to visit the farm at least once to tour the farm and meet the parents of their new puppy.
