She has opened up so much since then and her true personality has finally come out. Truffle is such a character and your typical female bulldog. She can still be timid and skittish with new people but warms up pretty quick. Just needs someone patience who is willing to give her a chance. When she becomes your best friends all she wants is to be petted and be right next to you. She is selective with other dogs at first, but does well with most dogs as long as she can be the queen. Truffle does better with the calmer male dogs. No small children. When we first took Truffle in she had horrible infected ears, nasty skin, and was struggling with her breathing. Bulldogs have such a hard time breathing being a brachycephalic dog. Awareness is key. Please do your research before getting any type flat faced dog. Truffle is around 3 years old. And we get to decide who adopts the precious few who make it. We pull dogs from local shelters that would otherwise be euthanized due to an injury, kennel stress, or extreme fearfulness. We do not take on the easy dogs. We do not cherry pick the highly adoptable dogs. We take the dogs that nobody else is coming for. The dogs that would otherwise not make it out of the shelter alive. Most of the dogs that we pull are major medical dogs whose injuries are life threatening. Dogs needing an amputation or a fracture repaired. Dogs needing a rectal prolapse fixed. Or a torn ACL repaired. But our medical bills are not always posted, and donations are not always raised for many of our dogs in need. Or the dozens of times the procedures needed are smaller and not necessary to post about, but those costs still add up regardless. We also have a hefty bill every month to cover our dogs in boarding. We have anywhere from dogs there at any given time. We hardly ever raise funds for boarding costs. And when we post asking for help, the donations that come in do not cover even a fraction of the cost. The other bulldogs that come into our rescue as adults come to us from shelters who KNOW that we will find the most suitable and appropriate homes imaginable for these dogs. Because they know that bulldogs NEED homes that can afford their ongoing care, and they entrust us to find those homes. IF we were only taking on French Bulldogs and English Bulldogs as owner surrenders, and not doing any of the other many facets of rescue work that we are doing, then I would understand the criticism about our adoption fees. We are doing the hard work! These fees go to cover medical bills for the month. And they go to cover boarding costs. These adoption fees help to keep all other parts of our rescue functioning. The MAIN reason is because not everyone should own one. Even if you have insurance, you still need to have a nest egg. Insurance only reimburses you, and many times does not cover all of the charges. Air flow can be obstructed by inflammation, thickening of the airways, or by a foreign object or mass. There are a few benign causes of wheezing, such as a sudden increase in activity especially during the summer or stress that causes your dog to breathe hard enough to wheeze. However, if the wheezing is constant, prolonged, or accompanied by any signs of distress or discomfort, it may indicate a medical emergency. Infections can cause inflammation and thicken the airways bronchitis , but wheezing can also occur when mucus and phlegm buildup near the vocal cords. Heartworm can also affect how the heart functions and lead to symptoms of heart failure. Wheezing Related to Allergies Seasonal respiratory allergies are not as common in dogs as they are in humans, and wheezing during an allergic reaction in dogs is concerning because that could be a sign of anaphylaxis. Especially if the wheezing is accompanied by facial swelling or hives, a dog should be evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. Wheezing Related to Collapsing Trachea Most noted in small-breed dogs, collapsing trachea is a condition where the cartilage of the trachea is weakened. Due to the pressure changes inherent in inhalation and exhalation, the trachea will actually narrow at the weak points. Severity of these symptoms can vary. Dogs who are not severely affected can be treated with environmental management. Examples of this include avoiding strenuous activities, keeping them in air-conditioned locations, and using harnesses that avoid pressure on the neck. For those with more serious clinical signs, there are some surgical options. Wheezing Related to Heart Disease When changes in the heart lead to heart failure , fluid can build up inside or outside the lungs, causing the dog to breathe much harder to get oxygen. This increased force during breathing can lead to wheezing, though coughing is a more common clinical sign. In cases like this, wheezing is often coupled with breathing faster. You may notice your dog using their abdomen more to help them breathe. Heart failure is a medical emergency; if your dog displays these clinical signs, they should be evaluated by your veterinarian immediately. Wheezing Related to a Foreign Body An object that your dog has in their mouth can slip and get lodged in the back of the throat near the larynx, obstructing the airway and leading to severe wheezing. As a dog experiences these sudden changes it can seem like they are choking, and the wheezing is often accompanied by distress, drooling, and coughing. Getting a foreign object out of the airway is a medical emergency, so contact a veterinarian immediately. Wheezing Related to Cancer Unfortunately, airways can also be compromised by cancer. They are cuddly and sweet pups who love running around, playing, making friends and are very enthusiastic learners. The breed is divided into 3 recognized categories: Toy Poodle; Mini; Standard. Although they differ in size, one thing is for sure: they are glamorous companion pets. Once we receive your application, we will contact you so that we can learn a little about you and so that we can answer any questions you may have about our program. We'll respond with your approval or refusal. We reserve the right to deny anyone at any time if we feel that they're not the right fit for one of our puppies. We accept payments via cash or Venmo. This reservation fee goes towards your final payment for your puppy. Once received, you will be added to our master waitlist. Our waitlist is in order of reservation fee submit date. When we have litters coming up we will work our way down our waitlist and see if you would like to be assigned to an upcoming litter. If the timing isn't right for you, you could skip that upcoming litter and will be contacted again for the next litter. We try to keep our waitlist to a reasonable number so that everyone will receive a puppy in a timely manner. Once assigned to a litter, all you have to do is sit back, relax, and watch the journey of your assigned litter grow and develop throughout the time they are with me. Puppies are temperament tested at 7 weeks old and are ready for their new homes at 8 weeks old. We do puppy picking right after temperament testing. Puppy picking is in the order that reservation fee was applied. We may not aways choose to keep these spots and will move people up on the list as necessary.
