Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. As English Bulldog Breeders, how do you breed for a healthier Bulldog? Like all things in life, breeding for health is simply a matter of priority. We are blind to many of the breed priorities that distract other bulldog breeders from improving the health of their Bulldog. We focus on health and personality and very little else. We are not interested in winning a blue ribbon in the show ring. Rather, we test for things like elongated soft palates, narrow tracheas, stenotic nares, luxation in the patellar tendons, heart defects, cherry eye, optic cilia, entropion, ect. We focus and prioritize creating healthy bloodlines, therefore our bulldogs are typically much healthier than the breed as a whole. After breeding for health, what other priorities are you focused on? Our true desire is to create the perfect family bulldog. We also believe a bulldog bred for the correct personality is essential to the family unit as well. A Bruiser Bulldog is bred for intelligence and playfulness. We want our bulldogs to be full of personality and some quirk. We believe a full personality along with a little stubbornness is the true North star of the bulldog breed and is what makes them unique among other breeds. We look for these personality traits in our adult bulldogs and continue to create bloodlines that reflect these qualities and produce high quality English Bulldogs for sale. Are Puppies supposed to Breathe Fast? To answer the question, should puppies breathe fast while sleeping? Yes, puppies need a higher level of oxygen intake for proper muscle, bone, organs, and brain development. However, if the puppies are breathing fast in situations that do not involve sleeping, playing, or cooling down after physical exertions, it is best to schedule an appointment with a vet doctor immediately. How fast should a Puppy Breath while Sleeping? The respiratory rate of puppies during sleep does not remain constant. It could increase or decrease during their sleeping cycle. At its slowest, it ranges from 15 to 40 breaths per minute, and around breaths per minute at its fastest. Rapid respiratory rate should only last for a few minutes and anything lasting more than 10 minutes should be checked by a vet. Make sure they are breathing through their nose and not through their mouth, as if they are panting. With a stopwatch at hand, count the number of times their chest inhales and exhales air for 30 seconds with one in-and-out movement counted as one. Next is to multiply the result by two. That would give you the result of their breaths per minute. If you suspect that their breathing is not normal, you can check their temperature by gently touching their body to feel if they are warmer than usual. The color of their gums is also a good indicator if there is something of concern. If they are pink and moist, then it should be fine. If it is very pale or rosy, have your pup checked by a vet. A puppy who just had some playtime may suddenly decide to rest and sleep and its breathing may not return to normal immediately. It should only be of concern when their rapid breathing is prolonged and accompanied by other unusual manifestations, like lack of appetite, vomiting, and lethargy. Why is my 4 week old Puppy Breathing Fast? Puppies naturally breathe faster than older dogs. At four weeks of age, they are starting to walk, run, and play with their littermates and this increased activity makes their heart rates increase, thus, increasing oxygen intake. Fast breathing during their sleep is normal and nothing to worry about. Only when it is labored and showing signs of distress that they need to be checked. New stimulation can bring about stress which can also contribute to faster breathing during sleep. This is because heavy panting while sleeping is normal for puppies at 8 weeks of age, for as long as there are no signs like appetite loss or fever. Puppies usually breathe more heavily from 8 weeks to 24 weeks of age. A 2 month old puppy breathing fast while sleeping could be that his or her body is going through a growth spurt. This is all part of the growing process of a healthy puppy. It is possible for them to dream about their new escapades making them breathe fast while sleeping. Crate training is also introduced to most puppies around this age and this could cause stress. When exposed to uncomfortable situations, puppies could exhibit signs of rapid breathing while sleeping. They are usually lively during the morning and evening and would suddenly take a nap to rest. Heavy breathing could be exhibited while they are taking a snooze right after strenuous activity and would usually return to normal in a few minutes. Residual excitement can bring about rapid breathing while sleeping. Obsession over chewing and gnawing at random things is commonplace. They are also reaching half their adult full weight during this month. It is normal for them to toss and turn a lot during sleep with brisk breathing through the nose. It is also possible at this age for some diseases they inherit from their parents to start to appear. It is still normal for them intermittently to breathe fast while asleep, but any prolonged panting behavior during rest should be checked by a vet. Yes, stress can also be one reason your puppy is breathing rapidly during sleep. Stress or fear can take many forms. Separation anxiety, new environments, and even exposure to other pets can bring about anxiety. Signs you should look for are excessive drooling and barking, changes in posture, shaking, constant pacing, tucked ears, showing the white of their eyes, and panting. When you see a sign of stress in your puppy, gradually remove her from that situation and place her in a quiet place where she can re-group. Exercise, like walking or a game of frisbee , is another good way to release tension not only physically but also mentally. Yes, for some puppies, the fast breathing while sleeping is due to an underlying health condition such as the following: 1. If for some reason, the trachea collapses, one of the first symptoms that will manifest is rapid breathing. In most cases, tracheal collapse is hereditary. Another respiratory issue that can causes rapid breathing while sleeping is asthma. This occurs when the windpipe gets swollen or inflamed due to irritants. Lung disease There are a number of lung diseases or conditions due to certain bacteria or viruses that can affect a puppy, like pneumonia, kennel cough, and influenza. Kennel Cough Kennel Cough, or canine infectious respiratory disease CIRD , is infectious bronchitis that can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or mycoplasma. It brings about inflammation in the trachea resulting in a dry, hacking cough, especially during the night. As we can see, this is a respiratory infection that constricts the upper airways resulting in fast breathing. If it is accompanied by fever, it is most likely the highly contagious kennel cough. Pneumonia Pneumonia is a disease that causes the microscopic air sacs in the lungs to be inflamed. The common culprit is a viral infection of the lower respiratory tract, but bacteria such as Streptococcus and Bordetella bronchiseptica can also cause the disease. Influenza Canine influenza virus CIV or dog flu is caused by either the H3N8 or H3N2 strain that brings about symptoms of cough, runny nose, and fever. It is typically spread through contaminated objects and respiratory secretions from infected dogs. Diaphragmatic hernia A form of diaphragmatic hernia found in puppies is called a peritoneal-pericardial diaphragmatic hernia PPDH. Puppies with this condition present with labored breathing and an irregular heartbeat, and the only solution to ease the difficulty is through surgery. Pain Dogs are good at concealing pain. It was a survival tactic that their ancestors employed against their enemies in the wild so as not to be seen as the weaker species. One of the typical signs of puppy pain is breathing fast while sleeping and during waking hours. Exposure to pain activates the stress hormone known as cortisol which plays a role in numbing pain. Increased cortisol also results in increased heart rate and faster breathing in puppies. If you suspect that your puppy is in pain, do not attempt to give pain medicines. Instead, head out to the veterinary clinic right away. The veterinarian will conduct a series of physical examinations to pinpoint the exact location of the pain. Blood tests, ultrasounds, and radiography may also be necessary especially if the vet suspects that it is a case of juvenile hip dysplasia. Though hip dysplasia is more common among older dogs, there are cases of puppies that are seen to be suffering from this problem as early as 5 months. Genes play a major role but obesity and poor diet can also be the cause. Depending on the diagnosis, the common pain medicines prescribed for puppies in pain are non-steroidal medicines. Supplements may also be given such as glucosamine to bring down swelling. Food Poisoning Puppies are notorious for eating just about anything. If fur parents failed to remove toxic food and substances around the house, puppies will naturally devour these. Fast breathing is one of the symptoms of food poisoning. Three of the human foods that can result in food poisoning in dogs are chocolate, garlic, and onions. Chocolates also have minimal traces of caffeine. While theobromine and caffeine can be processed by humans, our dogs take a longer time to break down and excrete these two which results in chocolate toxicity. The signs of chocolate poisoning can be seen 22 to 24 hours after intake and some of the symptoms are rapid breathing and increased heart rate. Garlic and Onions toxicity Garlic and onions can cause food poisoning in our dogs because of the compound N-propyl disulfide. This is a compound that damages the red blood cells of dogs and causes hemolysis and anemia. Aside from increased heart rate and faster breathing, the signs include pale gums and lack of coordination. The Dangerous Truth! March 25, 90K It can be a bit unnerving when your dog breathes fast while sleeping. Here are a few common reasons your dog breathes fast while sleeping: Your dog is a dreamer Just like us, our dogs dream. This might also be accompanied by twitching of the muscles or eyelids, and even soft little whimpers or barks. This allows them to dream without actually moving around. So, if your dog is breathing as though their favourite Dog Walker is taking them for their daily walkie, they might just be dreaming about that very moment! The amount of time your dog spends in REM will vary, but most only stay in this phase for about five to 20 more minutes. It is possible for a dog to have an abnormally intense REM cycle, in which they are much more active than you might expect. This could be a sign of REM sleep behaviour disorder , a bit like sleepwalking in humans. Because this sleeping disorder can be dangerous, with dogs running into furniture or walls, many vets will prescribe a medication to help the dog sleep more peacefully. Your dog is a puppy Exactly why dogs dream is about as elusive as why we humans do. Dogs who spend their day playing with their Owner, exploring the neighbourhood with their trusted Pet Sitter , and meeting new friends at the dog park will likely have dreams to match their exciting daytime activities. And, this also explains why age is such a big factor in why your dog breathes fast while sleeping. Puppies, probably because they are processing so many new experiences, are likely to spend more time in REM than adult dogs. As a result of their shortened airways, these dogs tend to pant, wheeze and snore in their sleep. That said, it is important to be able to tell the difference between normal brachy breed breathing and Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome. If their breathing troubles seem to keep them from being able to sleep, make sure to talk to your vet. Aside from the brachy breeds, large dogs and small dogs may have different breathing patterns. In general, small dogs breathe faster than big ones, and they have a shorter and more intense REM cycle. When to be concerned that your dog breathes fast while sleeping Unfortunately, there are a few other reasons why your dog might be breathing rapidly during sleep, and some of them are concerning. Keep in mind that the majority of the time, when a dog breathes fast while sleeping, the cause is something benign. But, it is worth taking note of the following possible medical reasons: Congenital heart failure. Dogs with congenital heart disease may experience rapid breathing while sleeping as the heart struggles to function normally. Coughing is another common symptom of heart failure, as well as extreme fatigue and fainting. Sleep disordered breathing. A dog suffering from sleep apnea may experience an episode of breathing obstruction followed by rapid breathing. All dogs can develop sleep apnea, but it is especially prevalent in brachy breeds and obese dogs. At home breathing test To get a better understanding of whether your dog is breathing normally or not, there is a pretty easy test that you can conduct right at home. You can do this by watching the rise and fall of their rib cage over the course of a minute. Typically, anything over 30 breaths per minute could be cause for concern. But, remember, fast breathing could be a sign of normal REM sleep. If your dog breathes fast while sleeping, should you wake them up? For dogs who are experiencing a normal REM cycle, the general consensus is not to wake them up. Dogs in REM are getting some much needed rest, and disrupting them could have negative consequences for their overall health. How can you make sure your furry friend gets a good night of sleep? Our doggos need rest to be able to rebuild their muscles, commit their training to memory, and build up energy for another wonderful day with their favourite human!

Like we already mentioned, fluffy French Bulldogs are still hard to come by despite the huge demand in recent years. Why is that? Frenchies that carry only one LH gene have regular short coat, but they are still valuable for breeders. If such a Frenchie is bred to another carrier of the long hair gene, they are likely to produce fluffy puppies, although the chances of that are still quite low. Long-haired pups are only guaranteed if two visual fluffy French Bulldogs are bred together. Their size depends not only on genetics but on their lifestyle as well how many times you take them for a walk, do you have a backyard, do you have other dogs or pets and even the food that you give them. Male Frenchies are usually stronger and stockier than females, they have bigger heads and wider chests. Female Frenchies tend to be a bit smaller and less muscular. On average, they weigh about 5 lbs less than males: their adult size is around 25 lbs, while boys can go up to 30 lbs. They are insanely affectionate making them the perfect companion dogs, they just want to spend every minute of their time with their owner. They are extremely friendly with kids and other animals too; they love basically anyone they meet! Thanks to their easy-going nature, a fluffy Frenchie will adapt to your lifestyle very quickly no matter where you live. Even though fluffy Frenchies are most popular among French Bulldog breeders, any responsible dog owner can become the parent of one these amazing dogs. Another thing to consider is your financial situation. Buying a fluffy Frenchie is one thing, and maintaining them is a whole different story. Each pet has to visit the vet regularly to get the compulsory shots, which costs money. Not to mention any sickness, which can easily happen at any age. Vets are not cheap, but having pet insurance helps to lower medical costs. All French Bulldogs are prone to overheating due to their flat-faces, but fluffy Frenchies are in even more risk because of their thick long coat. So, if you live in an area with a hot and humid climate, you might want to opt for a regular short-haired Frenchie puppy instead. Their price ranges on a wide scale and is largely determined by their color and gender: standard colored fluffy puppies are valued around 10, USD while unique ones like lilac tan and merle can go up to 19, USD. Female Frenchies normally cost more than males. FAQ What makes fluffy Frenchies fluffy? Although a playful pup sounds endearing, consider how many games of fetch or tag you want to play each day, and whether you have kids or other dogs who can stand in as playmates for the dog. Click here for more information on this characteristic Havapoo Highlights Havapoos come in many different colors and combinations and can be solid, two colors, or three colors. Havapoos have medium energy, and due to their small size, it is pretty easy to manage their exercise needs. Havapoos are smart, but their intelligence can also be used for mischievous ends if your dog feels bored or neglected. Be sure to provide them with lots of stimulation in the form of affection, play, and toys. However, the natural playfulness of the Havapoo makes them a great childhood playmate or adult companion. Havapoos also tend to get along well with other animals. However, they are small and docile. Some more aggressive or rowdy animals in the house may not treat Havapoos gently enough. This particular mix likely started in the USA. The Miniature and Toy sizes , however, only came about in the 19th and 20th century, respectively. The Havanese has been around for over years, coming from, as the name suggests, Havana, Cuba. According to the American Kennel Club, this is the only dog breed native to Cuba. They were originally bred as lap dogs for nobles. They are a direct descendent of the now-extinct Blanquito de la Habana, which was a descendent of the now-extinct Bichon Ternerife. It is believed that the Blanquito was crossed with the Poodle, and possibly with other Bichon breeds Maltese and Bichon Frise to create the Havanese we know and love today. If you want to make a Havapoo part of your life, please opt to adopt! Typically, miniature or toy is used, so you will likely have a small dog, as Havanese parents are also very small. Their height is typically eight to 15 inches, and they can weigh between seven and 30 pounds. They are very easy to train, quick to learn commands, and pretty good decision-makers. That being said, that intelligence can also be used for mischievous ends if your dog feels bored or neglected. Havapoos are extremely loving little lap dogs, and they are happiest with their families. While Havapoos are playful, they also tend to be calm and gentle, not quite as hyperactive as some others of their size category. This makes them great, versatile companions for all ages. As with all dogs, early training and socialization will bring out their best qualities. These hybrids are typically friendly but can have some social anxiety if not properly socialized. Havapoo Health Havapoos are generally pretty healthy dogs. Also, small dogs tend to live longer than large dogs. However, there is a possibility of a Havapoo inheriting health issues from both Havanese and Poodles. The most common issues for Havapoos include: hip dysplasia. This Havanese -poodle mix has a low-shedding, "hypoallergenic" coat , an alert but friendly nature, and an absolutely adorable look. Pair that with the breed's bright mind and moderate exercise needs, and you've got a dog who can fit right in with nearly any home or family, including first-time dog owners. Appearance With any relatively new hybrid dog breed, including the Havapoo, everything from appearance to personality can vary widely. This is true even within the same litter—especially early on, when one parent is a purebred Havanese and one is a purebred poodle. Each Havapoo puppy's looks and temperament depend on which traits he inherits from his parent breeds, so answering questions like, "how big do Havapoos get? Size, in particular, can differ greatly, with full-grown Havapoo dogs ranging from a tiny 10 pounds to as much as 45 pounds. This is because the poodle parent can be a toy , miniature , or standard poodle. But many adult Havapoos stay under 20 pounds because miniature and toy poodle parents are more common. His fluffy tail is just the cherry on top of a practically perfect little pupper. Sometimes called a poovanese, Havadoodle, or Havanoodle, the Havapoo has a soft, shiny coat that's wavy or curly much like a poodle's , and comes in just about any color. While he needs to be brushed thoroughly a few times a week to avoid tangles and mats, it's an easy enough job to do yourself, especially if you use grooming as an opportunity to snuggle and bond. Havapoos don't shed much , thanks to those poodle roots—and that makes them a good choice for people with pet allergies. But remember that no dog is truly percent hypoallergenic , regardless of how they're marketed. Temperament A bright mind, a signature bouncy gait, and a deep and abiding love of laps describes the Havapoo temperament pretty darn well. He's not only a brainy little buddy, but he's eager to learn and show off his tricks, which may be no surprise. The Havanese is known as a trick dog , and both Havanese and poodles have long histories of performing in circuses. This is an eager-to-please dog who's a delight to train using positive reinforcement , but you need to be mindful of how many treats you're giving him as a reward—he can have a tendency to put on weight. Basically, if you have a lap and love to give, they'll be your best friend. They generally get along well with other family pets, too, including cats and other dogs. But don't assume that snuggles are all he needs; this playful breed still demands daily exercise and stimulation to be happy and healthy. While Havapoos aren't typically a yappy dog, they are alert and can be quick to bark when someone new approaches. They're generally equally quick to stop and befriend the newcomer, though, so while he'll play the watchdog, don't count on your Havapoo for any guard duties. Providing your Havapoo puppy with early socialization and training he'll do great in puppy kindergarten classes! Living Needs Do you live in a home or apartment that allows dogs? Congratulations—you have a perfect space for a Havapoo. Even the largest of Havapoos aren't terribly big dogs, and they're as happy in an apartment as they are in a home with a big, fenced yard. Just make sure you're prepared to give them the opportunity to be active each day. He says Havapoo owners should think twice about taking their pup to the dog park. Fortunately, Havapoos don't require a park full of pups to meet their social needs. As long as they have you by their side, their tails will keep wagging. The Havapoo is a quintessential lap dog and will share snuggles with the whole family, but, as with any dog, small children must be supervised around him. But, because the Havapoo's coat will vary a bit depending on how much poodle versus Havanese genes prove dominant, you may need to enlist the help of a professional groomer to keep him looking—and feeling—good, Miller says. Some experts believe this hair should be plucked regularly to prevent ear infections, while others believe that plucking itself can actually cause damage to the skin that leads to ear infections. Miller leans toward plucking, "so that the canals are more open to the air and the pet owners can more easily use ear cleaning solution routinely to keep those ears clear. The Havapoo's fur can also lead to trichiasis , or facial hair rubbing on the eye, Miller says, as well as excessive tearing, which can lead to mats and skin infections near the eye. Havapoos can get feces stuck in the hair around their rear end if this area is not kept well groomed. And like all dog breeds, your Havapoo will benefit from regular nail trims —don't let him click clack across the floor! When it comes to meeting your Havapoo's physical and mental stimulation needs, it should be a pleasure. He's a playful and intelligent dog and wants to make you happy. Using consistent reward-based training will go a long way in a short time. Some will love a certain food, while others crave praise, toys, or games. But be careful not to overdo it on the snacks, as this can impact their weight. Some dogs adapt, but others require surgery to correct the condition. Dental disease is another common issue for small dogs. Here's what you need to know: According to the Havanese Club of America , health issues you may see in this generally healthy breed include eye disorders, chondrodysplasia, deafness , heart murmurs , Legg-Calve-Perthes disease , and patellar luxation. Poodles can be prone to Addison's disease , which affects the adrenal glands, endocrine diseases such as diabetes , Cushing's disease , and bloat , according to the Poodle Club of America. History Although it's impossible to say exactly when and where the Havapoo originated, it's generally believed they came to rise in popularity in the past 20—30 years in the U. His origins may not be clear, but there's no mystery as to why this hybrid breed appealed to breeders and dog lovers alike. Pairing the Havanese's affectionate, funny personality with the poodle's allergy-friendly coat and athleticism makes perfect sense. Be particularly wary of any Havapoo breeder who claims to have mini or "teacup" Havapoo puppies and is marketing them as a unique breed. Unscrupulous breeders are quick to act when a breed—including a crossbreed—becomes popular, and they go on to breed dogs in inhumane conditions, not providing the type of care and attention that responsible breeders give to their dogs. Be smart about shopping for your best furry friend and avoid falling for a puppy mill scheme by watching out for these red flags: There are multiple mixed breeds for sale from the same breeder. The website offers specific wait times for puppies. The breeder offers to ship puppies. Havapoos aren't to be confused with the similarly named Cavapoo a Cavalier King Charles spaniel and poodle mix. Despite the different parent breeds, the two hybrids can look similar. Was this page helpful? What is a Havapoo? This small designer breed is a mixture of a Poodle and a Havanese. It is difficult to say exactly when they were first bred by dog breeders, but we can assume it is from the surge of popularity of Poodle designer dogs, caused by the Labradoodle in the s. The Poodle is originally from Germany, bred to retrieve waterfowl more than years ago. They were then favored by French nobles and aristocrats — their good looks and entertaining personality made them popular companions. The Havanese breed originated in Cuba, it was brought over by Spanish colonists and bred as lapdogs for nobles. Over years of refining the breed have resulted in what we know today as the Havanese. This new mix dog is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, but the Poodle is part of the non-sporting group and the Havanese is part of the toy group. The cost of a Havapoo pup will vary depending on the breeder and the parents. You can expect a healthy Havanese Poodle to live between years. But looking at each parent breed will help give us an idea about what your pup can look like. Some Havapoo puppies will favor their Poodle genes and others may inherit a Havanese look, or they could have a mixture of both. They will have a small roundish head, with a slight but definitive stop. They will have well-set dark eyes, most commonly brown. Their ears will be floppy and fall down onto their cheeks. Their small rectangular build and short legs will give them a toy-like look — this is exaggerated if they are bred with the Miniature Poodle. No matter the unpredictability of the Havapoo look, there is no doubt they will be cute and adorable. Height and Weight The Havapoo can range in size, it mainly depends on which Poodle their parent is standard or miniature. The Miniature Poodle can weigh between lb and stands between inches. Whereas, the Standard Poodle can weigh between lb and stand over 15 inches tall. The Havanese breed can weigh lb and stand up to .You should expect your Havapoo to weigh around lb and stand between inches tall — the smaller Havapoo is bred from Miniature Poodles. Colors Both the Poodle and the Havanese have a wide range of coat colors solids, bi-colors, and tri-colors. According to the AKC breed standard, Havanese dogs have 16 official colors. Some of these include black, black, and silver, chocolate, white, fawn, silver and gold. The Poodle breed standard states there are 10 official colors, some of these include apricot, black, blue, brown, gray, silver, and cream. So your Havapoo can have any number of colors! It is also common for the Havapoo to have white markings on their chest, face, and on their feet. Coat One thing you can almost guarantee with your Havanese Poodle is their luscious coat. They can have either a medium or long-length coat. The coat can either be wavy or curly, depending on which parent breed the Havapoo pup favors the most. Havapoo Temperament Just like their appearance, the Havapoo temperament is unpredictable as they could favor one of their parent breeds traits over the other. To understand the Havapoo dog more, we can look at each parent breed. The Poodle is famous for its intelligence. They are also very sensitive to our body language and voices, which might give them an edge when it comes to obedience and socializing. They can be shy with strangers at first, but once they are familiar they will come around. Miniature Poodles are likely to be more excitable and anxious than Standard Poodles, so this is something to consider. It should be noted that Miniature Poodles are more likely to be shy and fearful in new situations; socialization can help a Mini Poodle to become more confident. Havanese are affectionate dogs, they are more confident and outgoing than the Poodle. These pups are mischievous and playful and will make their own fun, by chewing your shoes if you have not given them enough attention. So what does this mean for your Havanese Poodle mix? The Havapoo is a friendly companion dog that will thrive in a loving home. Being a very loving and trustworthy mix breed, they are not good guard dogs. They are great with dogs and other pets. When introducing a Havanese Poodle to other pets, introduce them gradually, by presenting them with something with their scent on and then let them meet face-to-face. Your Havapoo will always need their favorite chew toy. The Havapoo is not known to be yappy, but they can and do use their voice! They will bark when playing or when they are excited. Havanese Poodle mix dog is great with kids — they love playtime and a nice cuddle session and will be gentle and loving towards children. In addition to them being eager to please, they do very well with dog training. They do best with positive reinforcement, so give your dog a reward when they follow your command or when they stop unwanted behaviors. As they are a dog that is sensitive to your body language and voice tone, your Havapoo will respond positively if you are confident and give them encouragement. If, as an owner, you are stressed out, your dog will sense this and become anxious as well. Do not punish your Havanese Poodle, it will stress them out and even encourage them to continue the behavior. Socialization is just as important as training. Even though the Havapoo is a fairly sociable dog, they still need socializing in new situations as a pup. Introduce your puppy to new experiences and situations. Being highly intelligent and energetic, the Poovanese needs to keep its mind occupied. Give them a puzzle feeder, or play games with them like hide and seek or go find the treat. Teaching your dog new and fun tricks will also keep their mind sharp. Caring for a Havapoo The Havapoo is a fairly small dog and can adapt well to apartment life. They are suited for any type of family including singles, couples, big families, or empty-nest homes. As long as you give them enough attention, including their exercise needs, they are quite happy to just be by your side. Exercise Requirements They may be small, but that does not mean they are lazy. In fact, they are very energetic and playful. With all this energy to burn, they should be getting at least 1 hour of exercise a day. They also need a couple of hours of indoor playtime, so buy them a few toys. Grooming and Shedding Grooming your Poovanese is fairly easy. A simple brush every other day to prevent tangles and matting will be plenty. Only give them a bath when they are particularly smelly or if they have been playing around in the mud. Bathing a dog too much can wash away their natural oils, leaving their coat dry and dull. General dog grooming should also be taken care of. This includes brushing their teeth twice a week, trimming their nails, and cleaning their ears. Feeding and Diet Knowing what to feed your Havapoo dog is not an exact science, you should feed them a balanced doggy diet with all their nutritional needs in check. Dogs need: Protein they are the basic building blocks for cells and tissues Dietary fats this is where they will get their most concentrated form of energy Carbohydrates Fiber this keeps their digestive system running nicely Vitamins and minerals are also a necessity Feed your Havapoo high-quality natural dog food and make sure to avoid dry food that has artificial filler ingredients like corn syrup. How much you feed them depends on their weight. If your Havapoo is 15lb they should be fed around 1 cup of kibble each day or if they are 30 lb they should have around 1. They can also be given fruit and veg, to help them get the vitamins and minerals they need. Known Health Problems Havapoos are a designer dog mix, meaning they have less chance of inheriting genetic disorders, as they have more genetic variance. They are prone to developing hip dysplasia and patella luxation — these are joint and bone issues. Patella Luxation is more likely to occur with Miniature Poodles. This is when the kneecap dislocates causing pain and lameness. With planning ahead you could get reimbursed for every vet bill from now on! Puppies vs adult rescue dogs Havanese Poodle Mix Appearance Like any hybrid dog, the Havapoo can take on any of the characteristics of either parent breed. This makes it somewhat difficult to predict the exact appearance and characteristics of the Poodle Havanese mix. To add to the unpredictable nature of this hybrid, the size and weight of a grown Havapoo will largely depend on what type of Poodle the parent pup was. Likely Traits Generally speaking, I find that adult Havapoos are small to midsized dog, usually weighing in at between 12 and 45 pounds and measuring 8 to 15 inches tall. Poodles and Havanese dogs can both range from colorful patterened pups to plain solid colors, so pretty much anything goes with a Havanese Poodle mix litter of puppies. Havanese Poodle Mix Temperament The social instincts of the Havapoo are generally agreeable, but early socialization is important. These dogs will usually get along well with strangers and other animals, so long as they are exposed to new faces from a young age. A Havanese Poodle mix should get along well with children. Although I do advise caution with very young kids, for the safety of both the dog and the owner! Their loving, trusting attitude and small size does not make them a very effective watchdog. However, it also leads to significantly less barking than many other small breeds. They are also highly intelligent — both parent breeds are among the smartest dog breeds out there. The Havapoo will respond well to positive reinforcement training using treats and other rewards. And they can be very tuned-in to your emotions and attitude. Do your best to be patient and not raise your voice. Socialization Is Key While typically a friendly breed, the Havapoo can suffer from so-called small dog syndrome. Be sure to socialize your young pup early with other dogs, other pets, and humans. They enjoy frequent walks and ideally should have 1—3 hours of activity per day. Younger dogs tend to have more energy, and this breed in particular often mellows out after a few years. Havanese Poodle Mix Health This is typically a relatively healthy breed, with an average lifespan of 10—14 years. However, just like any other dog, a Havanese Poodle mix will inherit some of the potential health concerns of its parents. One common issue with both parent breeds is skin allergies and irritation. Proper grooming and diet can help reduce the likelihood of skin issues. The Havanese breed is also prone to some developmental abnormalities, including skeletal defects and osteochondrodysplasia. Eye issues are also often observed, and cataracts are common in older Havapoos. Havapoos are known to be prone to hip dysplasia, patellar luxation and related issues. As long as they are socialized early, they tend to get along great with just about everyone — from adults to kids to other dogs and even cats! Socialization from a young age is quite important with this breed. So long as you socialize your pup and raise it with love and care, it should make for an excellent family dog! Rescue Dogs We believe that every dog deserves a loving home, that said, there are some things to be aware of. This can lead to some behavioral issues, particularly with more aggressive breeds. Havapoo Puppy Breeders Most people looking for a Havanese Poodle mix will want a puppy to join their family. Search for a breeder that has an aim beyond money in mind when they produce a litter. Health testing and good care cost a lot a of dollars. But when you meet the litter and their mother, look at how she interacts with her owner. Does she have a strong bond and know her name? Is the breeder itching to tell you what a fabulous companion she is?

Puppy guide: how to find a breeder A Kelpie Lab mix combines the protective, energetic Australian Kelpie with the friendly, affectionate Labrador Retriever. The resulting mix can vary, but generally puppies grow to be medium dogs with plenty of drive and intelligence! These dogs do best in active homes, and need daily mental stimulation to prevent destructive behaviors. What is a Kelpie Lab Mix? Breeding two purebred dogs together to create a mixed breed has become a popular trend over the past decade. And, the Labrador is a favorite for this process, thanks to their loving, family-oriented temperament. However, like all mixed breeds, the outcome of a Kelpie x Labrador can be unpredictable. And this means getting to know both parent breeds very well! When well socialized, Labs are friendly, affectionate, and loving. This temperament is partly due to generations of breeding for such a personality, but also to a history of working alongside humans in retrieving roles. The Australian Kelpie is equally energetic and intelligent. In fact, this breed is known for their ability to learn and their limitless energy. Throughout their history, Kelpies have worked as sheep-herding dogs in Australia, and many can be found in this role today. They form strong bonds with their owners, but can be reserved around strangers and other dogs when not well socialized. And, they may display herding behaviors towards young children and other pets. Importance of Socialization Socialization is an important process for all dogs. If you socialize your dog well before they reach 12 weeks of age, they will feel happier and more confident in new situations as an adult dog. Socialize your puppy to anything they might experience as an adult, like a busy school yard, people in wheelchairs, trains, busy roads, and more. Keep all experiences positive. Pairing new and potentially scary things with treats and affection is a great way to help your puppy get used to them from a distance. Over time, you can move closer. But, it can help to minimise the risk of fear-related aggression. So, be aware of the potential natural instincts in this mix before committing to one. For instance, they are both well-built, muscular dogs that suit a working lifestyle. They both also have a dense, double layered coat that sheds moderately. Both have relatively long, straight tails and a healthy muzzle that will keep them cool as they work or exercise. The Labrador comes in three colors — black, chocolate, and yellow. But the Kelpie has a wider range, including black and tan, blue, fawn, red, and red and tan. Some of these shades are dominant over others. But, modern breeders can work to increase the likelihood or certain colors. Size is another trait that can vary from one Kelpidor to the next. Adult Labradors are large dogs. Fully grown, they will stand between .Some may fall outside of this boundary, but these measurements are the most common. And, females tend to be smaller than males. Australian Kelpies, in contrast, are smaller. When fully grown, they usually stand between 17 and 20 inches tall, weighing between 35 and 50 lbs. Like Labs, females are often smaller than males. The exact size of your Kelpie Lab mix will depend on which parent it favors. Some puppies will grow to be at the upper limit of the Labrador range, but others might be as small as the smallest Kelpie. And, some might fall entirely in between, being the perfect middle ground. The best way to get an idea of potential size is to examine the parent dogs. Both dogs have a working history, and so a mix between them will be equally clever and active. Training is vital for this mix. Not only to instil good behaviors, but also to provide some mental stimulation and burn off some of that limitless energy. Multiple training sessions each day are a great idea, as is investing in some interactive toys. Positive reward training will work well for this mix. This mix will have a lot of energy. So, they are best suited to large homes with lots of safely enclosed outdoor space for them to roam in. They need energetic families that can dedicate at least an hour every day to exercise. This can include hiking, retrieving, agility, swimming, and more. If they do not get enough exercise, a Kelpie Lab mix can become bored and unhappy, which can lead to destructive and unwanted behaviors like barking, digging, chewing, and more. Kelpie Lab Mix Health Although mixed breed dogs live, on average, longer than purebred dogs, they can still be prone to the same hereditary health issues as their parents. For example, the Labrador is particularly prone to joint issues, so a Lab mix puppy may experience the same problems. Here are some of the most common problems that can impact a Kelpie x Labrador. Hip and elbow dysplasia. Friendly, active, loyal, and intelligent Suitable Environment The Kelpie Cross Labrador is an active dog that thrives in large spaces. It is suited in a house with a fenced backyard where it can roam and play around. If you live in an apartment, this dog may not be the best choice for you. Other Considerations The Kelpie Cross Labrador tends to instinctively herd everything that moves, including children and other animals. It is recommended to teach your dog basic obedience while it is still a puppy. This crossbreed tends to be hyperactive and very friendly with everyone. This dog enjoys being busy and does like being alone for a long time. How can I take good care of my Kelpie Cross Labrador? Avoid feeding it onions, chocolates, raisins, and nuts. Make sure you combine a healthy diet with daily exercise. Remember to always give your dog time to digest its food before allowing it to engage in physical activity. Grooming The Kelpie Cross Labrador has a short coat like both its parents so it does not need any major grooming. Weekly brushing is recommended to get rid of loose hair and keep its coat looking good. Recommended Grooming Tips When grooming your dog, examine its body for bumps, lumps, and parasites. Exercise Both the Australian Kelpie and Labrador Retriever have high levels of energy, so you can expect their offspring to be very active, too. Because of this, the Kelpie Cross Labrador needs plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Give your dog at least one hour of vigorous physical activity a day. This may be in the form of a long walk, run, or play. It is suggested to keep a consistent exercise schedule as well as training time. Training This hybrid is intelligent, making it easy to train. Socialisation is recommended at a young age so your dog can quickly get familiar with different people, environments, things, and animals. Obedience training is also advised, so your crossbreed matures into a well-rounded pet. Because both its parents have histories as working dogs, the Kelpie Cross Labrador can work for hours without getting tired. You can train it to help you with household chores. Use positive reinforcement and reward or praise your hybrid for every job well done. This is basic information, and it should not be used to make adoption or purchasing decisions. The Kelpie Cross Labrador is a medium-sized dog that may take after either its Kelpie parent or Labrador parent. This means, its appearance varies. Some may have speckles, while others may have brindles. In terms of colour, this hybrid is available in various shades. These include brown, yellow, black, and red.

Pug Wrinkles Overview A Pug's wrinkles are one of the amazing standout features of this incredible breed. Opposite to some breeds that were developed to have skin folds to help fend off possible wild animal attacks, this is not so with the Pug. This breed was spoiled and cherished as an indoor companion and it is believed that Pugs have wrinkles simply for aesthetic purposes, i. This article will cover: Anatomy of a Pug's Wrinkles - A look at where wrinkles are located and the thumbprint that may appear on them. Pug Wrinkle Care - The importance of keeping your Pug's wrinkles clean and dry with step-by-step instructions. Wrinkle infections - This is a common issue seen with Pugs; causes, symptoms, and treatment options. Anatomy of a Pug's Wrinkles A Pug's wrinkles are found primarily on the forehead and around the muzzle. The pattern of the wrinkles are unique to each dog and vary in exact location, length, and depth. Both black and non-black Pugs have wrinkles, though these may be more noticeable on fawns and, of course, the thumbprint is only applicable to fawns. When there is a black smudge of fur in the middle of the forehead wrinkles, this is known as a thumbprint or thumb mark and is a very desired physical traits in conformation show rings. Wrinkles on Pug Puppies vs Adults All Pugs have some level of wrinkles but this is something that develops and becomes more pronounced as a Pug matures. Most newborn Pugs do not have wrinkles; the forehead is smooth. At the 8-week mark, wrinkles may be in any state of development that ranges from not there at all to very noticeable. By the time a Pug is at the 9 to month mark, wrinkles are in place. Though the appearance of wrinkles on a young puppy is a great indication of the amount that will be present as an adult, this is not so with a lack of wrinkles. A week-old Pug with a rather smooth forehead can mature into an month old with lots of deep folds. Because wrinkles are a genetic feature, seeing the extent of wrinkles on both sire and dam can give you a good idea about how many wrinkles a Pug will have; however, genetic traits like this can jump generations. Let's look at some photo examples of Pugs at various ages and various development of facial wrinkles: This is Otis at 3 months old. Though the fur on the forehead is loose, wrinkles have not yet developed, but this will change. As you can see, he has some pronounced wrinkles on his forehead, around his eyes, and on the muzzle. There are lots of wrinkles all over the forehead and one over the top of the muzzle. The AKC breed standard states 'the wrinkles are large and deep' and the FCI states 'The wrinkles are clearly defined without exaggeration'. This said, pet Pug dogs can have wrinkles ranging from slight to heavy. Let's take a look at three different levels of wrinkles on adult Pugs: Slight wrinkles This is Boomer, at 6 years old. Though this cutie has wrinkles, they are slight when compared to some other Pugs. He has lots of large and deep wrinkles over the forehead and face. Tiny bits of food, other fine debris, and moisture often due to splashes when a Pug drinks water easily get trapped in the wrinkles. If the wrinkles are not regularly cleaned, they can start to smell funky, become irritated red inflamed areas and usually lots of itching and can develop skin infections. Simply cleaning the wrinkles during baths is not enough. At an absolute minimum, a Pug's wrinkles should be cleaned 3 times per week and ideally you will want to do this every day, up to 3 times per day after each meal. It only takes a few moments and plays a huge role in keeping the wrinkles free of odor, itching, and infections. How to Clean a Pug's Wrinkles Don't wait until you see foreign matter; get into a schedule of cleaning the wrinkles. Many owners find that doing this after each meal is a good way to remember this important grooming task. Options include a grooming wipe like Earthbath Facial Wipes for Dogs. These are gentle hypoallergenic pre-moistened cloths that are great for the wrinkle's sensitive skin with both aloe vera and vitamin E. And, another good choice is Petpost Wrinkle Wipes for Dogs which are specifically made for breeds with deep wrinkles. These are great at cleaning skin folds and have coconut oil and aloe vera to keep the wrinkles in good shape. If you choose to just use a thin washcloth, be sure to only make the cloth damp not soaked and add just a few drops of a quality canine shampoo to ensure that the pH level is correct and there are no harsh soaping agents or additives being introduced to the wrinkles. When you clean the wrinkles, this is always a good time to first make a visual inspection to look for any irritation and take note of any odd odors. If issues like this remain for more than a day or so, a topical medicated product may need to be used. This is covered next under ' Pug Wrinkle Infections '. Take your time and gently swipe down into each fold. It is important to wipe down as far as you can since bacteria, debris, and excess moisture are often found at the bottom the wrinkles. Try to make one sweeping motion. Repeat until the wipe comes out clean without any matter on it. Use new wipes as needed. If your Pug is prone to chronic wrinkle irritation or infections, it can help to use a balm or cream that creates a water-repellent barrier to keep moisture and debris from coming into contact with the skin. Essentially, this type of product is like Chapstick for the wrinkles. While you'll still want to routinely clean them, using a product like Squishface Wrinkle Paste can shield the wrinkles and help clear up irritation. Note that this is not for bacterial or yeast infections which is covered next. Wrinkle Infections Overview: Even with proper care, wrinkles can become infected. This is a common problem with Pugs since the deep skin folds are dark and moist which is the ideal environment for yeast and bacteria to grow. Some Pugs are more prone to issues than other and if a Pug has lots of wrinkles, it can be easy to mistakenly overlook one or two when cleaning them. Types of wrinkle infections: In most cases, this will be a skin yeast infection. Under certain conditions, this yeast can over-multiply. Certain health issues can trigger yeast to grow in numbers including allergies which trigger the body's immune system response. Bacterial infections can also occur, yet are seen less frequently. Signs and symptoms of wrinkle infections: Odor - This is a top sign. There may be an odd musty-type smell. Itching - A Pug may paw at his face or rub his face into surfaces like carpeting or pillows. Discharge - Though not always present, untreated infections can produce a discharge that is often clear or white. Treatment, at home: Many cases of acute wrinkle infections can be successfully treated at home using an anti-fungal and antibacterial medicated wipe. The combination of chlorhexidine gluconate and ketoconazole are typically very effective for this. The affected areas should be wiped 2 to 3 times per day for 1 week and then once per day for the second week. Discard each wipe afterward; do not re-use these. Treatment, veterinary: For stubborn infections that do not respond to at-home treatment or in the case of chronic reoccurring infections, veterinary treatment will consist of a visual inspection and a sample taken via a swab that is examined under a microscope to determine the exact cause. Once the infection clears up, there will need to be a strong focus on maintaining a strict schedule of cleaning. Do you have your book? The Pug face is one of the trademarks of this special breed of dog. It is the characteristic that catches your attention first and probably the thing that makes this dog almost irresistible. How do you begin to describe such a cute face? The eyes are probably the most prominent feature of the Pug face. They are very soft in expression and can sometimes give the impression that he is sad or worried. Not to worry - Pugs are a very happy breed of dog and make great and playful companions. The eyes are very expressive and can seem to full of mischief if your Pug is in a playful mood. This is usually quite often. Just one note of caution on the eyes, however. Because they are so prominent and this little dog can be quite active, they are prone to injury and require extra care. Any eye injury can be very painful to your Pug so you should seek medical attention right away. Another distinguishing characteristic is the abundance of wrinkles. Usually their only worry or concern is their next meal. The wrinkles give this breed a very distinctive look. The wrinkles are large, deep and are above and below the eyes. The wrinkles also require special care. Bacteria can get caught in the wrinkles so this should be a part of any grooming process. The head should be round rather than elongated and there should be no indentation of the skull. The Pug face is short and flat. This structure is sometimes categorized as a brachycephalic breed and it refers to the short snout or nose. This can cause some respiratory problems for some Pugs but certainly not in all dogs that have a short, flat face. They can be more prone to over heating on hot days because their air passages tend to be smaller. It is not unusual to have a snoring Pug either. This can be cause for annoyance or it just makes your little friend even more endearing. The ears of a Pug are small and thin and can either fall forward, which is called a button ear, or back, which is called a rose ear. On a button ear the flap covers the ear opening and the tip lies close to the skull. With a rose ear you can see the inside of the ear. The Pugs teeth are usually a little bit undershot. This means the front teeth on the bottom are actually in front of top front teeth. One thing to note is that the Pug has a lot of teeth for such a small mouth. Because of this, extra care needs to be taken with your Pug's teeth. There are markings on the Pug face that are mentioned in the breed standards that are set by the American Kennel Club. The muzzle, sometimes called the mask, should be as black as possible. This is also true for the ears and the diamond on the forehead. If you look closely at a Pug that represents the standard you will see a diamond shape on top of his head. This can also be referred to as a thumb mark. The Pug face can also be characterized by moles that should also be black. For all of these markings, the blacker they are the better they score with judges in competitions. It may mean that your Pug will not do well in conformation events or Dog Shows. But it does meet the standard of being a very lovable and adorable companion! Share this page:. The essentials Wrinkles can trap moisture and dirt — Which creates the perfect environment for skin infections. There are so many reasons to love pugs, but their wrinkles always top our list. This gave them one of the most recognizable faces in the world. With such beauty comes some upkeep, though. No abrasive materials or perfumed wipes! Tissues, gauze, or a soft, dry cloth. Small training treats. To reward your little doggo for putting up with the slight invasion of personal space! Wrinkle balm, coconut oil, or salve. Now that you have everything you need, the cleaning process should be relatively easy. Follow these six steps: 1. Go to source for any signs of redness, irritation, scabbing, or odor. These symptoms could be a sign of infection that will need to be treated with topical therapy or oral medication. Always be gentle! The skin between the folds is often much more sensitive than the rest of their body. Rubbing too hard will be pretty uncomfortable for your pug and in extreme cases, can cause injuries. Watch for redness, head shaking, brown or yellow residue, and any abnormal odors. Apply a balm if needed The trick is to create a water-repellent barrier to keep moisture and debris out, not trap anything in. Eradicates yeast and bacteria Wrinkle Balm The perfect balm for wrinkled noses, this formula fights against bacterial infections and crusty buildup. Shop on Amazon 6. Reward your dog with treats We all know pugs love food, so what better way to reward them after they let you get all up in their personal space than with some treats? A well-deserved reward can also help your pug start enjoying an otherwise not-so-fun experience. Puppy versus adult wrinkles Some pugs are born with a few wrinkles, but most are born without them. Although some experts say the amount of wrinkles a puppy has is a good sign of how many more will develop, wrinkles are a genetic trait. One pug puppy could be born with a completely smooth forehead that develops into deep folds, while another could have wrinkles from the start that develop more slowly. Because pugs are so wrinkly, any area with folded skin has the potential to trap moisture, dirt, and sweat. This can lead to chafing, irritation, and bacterial or yeast infections. Keeping your pug as dry is just as important as maintaining their daily hygiene. Try to keep their skin folds free of any trace of moisture to help prevent infections before they start. What to do if you suspect an infection The only thing more important than being able to spot the signs of infection is knowing that you need to act fast when you suspect one. Visible symptoms will likely cause your pug discomfort, so consult your vet as soon as possible for treatment. And always keep in mind that the best way to treat an infection is to prevent it in the first place! Early warning signs of an infection Excessive scratching or licking at the area. Watch out particularly for headshaking and if your pug starts rubbing their face on the carpet. Strong or foul odor. Infections usually come with a musty, yeasty, or stinky smell. Red, irritated, or inflamed skin. Advanced infections can also cause slimy skin, swelling, bumps, and sores. Due to a bacterial infection pyoderma infection , the pus can also come with excessive scaling and scabbing. A veterinarian will properly clean the infected area and recommend steps to keep your pup comfortable at home. Treatment will depend on the cause, and your vet will walk you through how to administer any medications prescribed to your dog. Treatment plans can include, depending on the type of the infection: Thorough cleaning. This can include antimicrobial or antifungal wipes, sprays, vet-approved cleaner, and shampoos — especially for pups with greasier skin. The type of bacterial infection and its severity will determine how long your dog needs antibiotics. These are the most common treatment for wrinkle yeast infections. Elizabethan collar. These collars prevent your dog from scratching, licking, and further aggravating the infected area. A new cleaning regimen. The best way to treat an infection is to prevent it! Daily cleaning is recommended for pugs especially after meals. However, routine cleanings should be performed at least three to four times a week. How often should I bathe my pug? Especially around the eyes. Use soft, vet-approved cleaning materials, and nothing with harmful ingredients or irritants. How do you clean a pug nose wrinkle? Again, gently! The nose can be extra sensitive, so be sure to give special attention not to irritate it. Wipe their nose with a soft, damp washcloth or wipe to remove any discharge or dirt, then dry thoroughly. With those wrinkles and rumples comes some cleaning needs. Here are the steps you should take to keep your pug healthy and fresh! You can trust that we maintain strict editorial integrity in our writing and assessments; however, we receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners and get approved. Read our full disclosure. Their nose folds and extra rumples on their back are cute and fluffy. Even their curly tail and funny little feet offer nooks and crannies that need to be kept clean and fresh. Just like humans, skin folds lead to chafing and provide a place where bacteria and yeast can grow. The nose wrinkle, is especially susceptible to irritation. Because their nose wrinkle is so close to their mouth, it offers the perfect place for bacteria to grow. This is harmless, but their feet should still be cleaned regularly as well. Typically a monthly bath will keep their coat healthy. Unscented baby wipes are a good choice for cleaning face folds. A soft cloth dampened with water will do the trick in a pinch. Plus, the skin in their folds is often sensitive. Rubbing hard will hurt your pug. Look for redness As you clean the folds, inspect them for redness and irritation as well. It can be hard to see redness under the fur, but note any changes. If you see scabbing, redness or the skin feels hot, take them to vet right away. You may need a specialized cleaner to treat any infection. Again, any concerns should be addressed by your vet. Dry the folds thoroughly Once the folds are clean, be sure to dry them thoroughly. Tissue paper works well for drying the folds, but you could also use a soft, absorbent cloth. Dampness can lead to bacteria growth. The folds should be kept clean and dry as much as possible. If your pug goes in the water or walks in the rain, you may want to spend some extra time and attention on drying their folds. Offer treats and praise If you want to keep your pug happy and comfortable with the face fold washing process, be sure to give them plenty of treats and lots of praise, before, during, and after the fold cleaning. Never hold your pug down or wrestle with them while you try to clean their folds. This will only make the afraid and cause them to fight the process more. Instead, work up to regular fold cleaning, slowly. Clean their folds with a simple swipe, and then offer small training treats and praise. You may have to start by simply getting them to allow you to touch their folds with your hand. Note: this process may take a few weeks. Work with your pug on a daily basis. Keep away the nose funk Pugs are prone to crusty noses. Again, this has to do with the proximity to their nose folds and propensity toward licking. To help keep their nose soft and healthy, apply some coconut oil or salve to moisturize their nose. You can use any unscented balm that you would use on your own skin-- Aquaphor, is an effective brand. Using a baby wipe or damp towel, clean their feet and wipe in between their toes. Ice-melt can contain toxic antifreeze agents that can make your dog very sick should they eat it. Your vet can help you troubleshoot this issues to keep their paws feeling great. Keep your pug looking and feeling their best by cleaning their folds regularly.

Anyway, dogs are a huge part of my life and recently my family added two more dogs to our family, two English Bulldogs. We have had bulldogs in the past, and my mom has been wanting another one for a long time. That is where Maggie May comes in. I arrived home one Sunday after work to a mother that was anxious for some reason. Needless to say, she was waiting for me to walk into the living room to see my reaction to the newest addition to the family. My reaction was like a small child's reaction on Christmas morning, I was completely surprised to see this tiny puppy sitting on my stepdad's lap and then I cried because I was so happy. Not only has my mom been wanting a bulldog for a long time, but I've been wanting another dog for just as long. The only difference is I didn't care what kind of dog we got. I was completely happy to have Maggie apart of our family. We like to call her the cow because of her black and white markings. Then Zoey Rae comes into the story, who is Maggie's sister actually. My mother got really close with the breeder she got Maggie from and found out that one of her sister's family didn't work out like it was supposed to and what does my mom do, she says we will take the dog into our family. The breeder was happy that we said that and she was also happy that Maggie and Zoey were going to be in the same family so that they could grow up together. Zoey was a little bit bigger than her sister Maggie and she had the brindle coloring instead of the cow looking fur, but we loved her just the same. I keep saying I can't wait for them to get older when they get a little fatter. We had only had Maggie for about two and a half weeks before we went to pick Zoey up and let me tell you that having two puppies in one house at the same time has not been a walk in the park. We also have another dog in the the house, a Pomsky named Koda Bear. She is almost two years old and has had a rough time adjusting to the two new pups in the house. There has been a lot of fighting, yelling, and getting mad at each other and that is just between my parents and myself. The dogs themselves have gotten into several fights and screaming matches. So what exactly is it like to live with two bulldog puppies and a little bit older Pomsky you ask? Well, it's not easy, I will tell you that. We thought it was going to be a good thing to have two puppies from the same litter in the same home, and for the most part it was a good thing but at other times it was like hell because all they did was fight and bite each other. It would be quiet for a long time and then you hear a blood hurting cry come from one of the pups, and most of the time it was coming from Zoey. Fighting isn't the only thing we have to deal with when it comes to the pups. There is also a lot more clean up when you have more than one dog. They are puppies after all and we know that they don't have strong bladders yet, so we try to take them outside as soon as they wake up from a nap and also a hour or so after they eat a meal, but sometimes we don't always get them outside in time and they pee on the floor. This makes it a little frustrating because now we have to try and tackle three dogs while trying to clean up a mess on the floor. Yet, for the most part potty training two puppies at once is a lot easier than if we would have had to train them at separate times. We are sort of killing two birds with one stone in this instance. Meal times are a little hard as well because our older dog, Koda, is used to eating whenever she wants. We call her a grazer because we used to leave her food bowl out all day and she would just eat whenever she got hungry. We couldn't exactly do that same thing with the puppies because they need to be fed a certain amount of food each day and at specific times. So we can no longer leave Koda's food bowl out for her because the puppies will go to her bowl and eat her food when they are done with their own food. We also have to be careful with the water bowl around the puppies because all they want to do is drink water all the time and with potty training them we try not to have them drink water after 8 p. Meal time training is going to take a while to get used to and it is going to take a while before we can leave the food and water out whenever. Now I know I have told you some of the hard times when it comes to having two puppies in the house but don't get me wrong there are some really good times as well. One of my favorite things since having the puppies in the house is that at night our older dog, Koda, actually sleeps in my room which is not normal for her because she normally sleeps in my parents' bed. I like having Koda in my room at night. I like the fact that I can reach over and pet her and know that I have someone with me at night. I also love all of the cute pictures that I have been able to take because of these two adorable puppies. They have also just given us more joy in our lives and have given us something to play with in our free time. I also like that they love to snuggle, at least at this point in their lives. Zoey is a bigger snuggler than her sister, Maggie but that is okay because snuggling isn't for everyone. There have been ups and downs to having two puppies in one house at one time, but I don't think we would change anything. We love both of these puppies the same and we look forward to however long these puppies are in our lives and hope to make many memories with them in the future. Golden retriever puppies originated in Scotland during the s. It was primarily developed by one man: Sir Dudley Marjoribanks, who was later known as Lord Tweedmouth. Tweedmouth, like many others during the time, was interested in breeding different types of dogs, with the goal of perfecting different breeds. With the Golden Retriever, Tweedmouth was aiming to develop a superior dog for hunting waterfowl with an even temper. To achieve this, he bred flat- and wavy-coated retrievers with Tweed Water Spaniels. The resulting breed quickly drew attention for its excellent hunting skills, and became officially known as the Golden Retriever in .Since then, the breed has established itself as a wonderful companion and working dog alike, making it one of the most popular breeds of all time. What is the Temperament of Golden Retrievers The Golden Retriever dog breed is one of the most popular dog breed in USA and there are special reasons for their popularity. Golden Retriever puppies are very affectionate, loyal and loyal to the point of breaking. Golden Retrievers are loved by all, extremely intelligent, well-mannered, adorable yet gentle with children, and they tend to get along well with other pets and strangers. They are a wonderful pet for families due to their ability to be flexible, patient and ability to adapt. A golden retriever puppy is extremely easy to train due to the way they are smart and dedicated it is towards its owners. One or both of this puppy's parents have undergone genetic testing. One or both of this puppy's parents are hip certified. One or both of this puppy's parents is OFA Heart certified. This puppy has had early neurological stimulation exercises. It is also important to understand there are different types of golden retrievers which may affect pricing. For example, if you decide to choose the lowest golden retriever cost option, those puppies almost never have the necessary 3rd-party assurances or veterinarian procedures like dewormings, vaccinations, health-tested parents, or a thorough health checkup. These missing costs and services will be your responsibility, making the total cost ultimately the same. Not to mention the added stress on you these extra expenses and issues create! Adopting vs. Please note that depending on the shelter, you may have to pay additional costs for your Golden certain shots and procedures. Depending on if the golden retriever is a boy or a girl may affect the price as well. Some male vs female golden retriever differences may make you prefer one over the other. This will ultimately save you time and money on your golden retriever price because breeders often pay lower veterinary rates than individuals do. Distemper, for example, is a highly contagious disease that attacks the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and nervous systems of dogs. Unfortunately, there is no cure — just a lot of expenses and stress which really adds to the overall cost of your Golden Retriever puppy. It is wise to ask your vet for guidance on this decision. Talk with your vet about the procedure, when you should get it done, and how much it might cost. Dental Care for Your Golden Retriever Golden Retrievers, like many dogs, can be prone to dental issues such as plaque buildup, gum disease, and tooth decay. These cleanings typically involve scaling, polishing, and potentially extractions if necessary. Some insurance providers offer optional dental coverage as an add-on or as part of more comprehensive plans. If dental coverage is included in the policy, it typically covers a portion of the costs associated with dental cleanings, extractions, and other necessary dental treatments. This typically includes services such as bathing, brushing, trimming, nail clipping, ear cleaning, and sometimes additional services like de-shedding or dematting. Some groomers may offer package deals or discounts for regular appointments or bundled services. This monthly expense may seem like an additional cost, but it can be a worthwhile investment when considering the potential savings on veterinary bills for treatments, surgeries, and medications. By having pet insurance in place, you can ensure that your Golden Retriever receives the necessary care without straining your finances in the event of unexpected health issues. Puppy Training and Socialization Classes Attending puppy training and socialization classes is highly recommended for the comprehensive development of your Golden puppy. These classes provide structured learning environments, social interaction, and essential obedience training. By enrolling your Golden Retriever puppy in these classes, you ensure they receive the necessary foundation for good behavior, social skills, and overall well-being. The cost for food will depend on the size, age, and activity level of your companion. Fortunately, the cheaper brands of dog food can be just as good as the more premium brands as long as they meet the standards of AAFCO and are made with minimal processing. When making your decision, make sure to avoid artificial ingredients and preservatives where you can, since they could cause health problems for your dog.

Television[ edit ] With the success of the books the BBC commissioned an animated series, which first appeared on 9 April ; [4] with Paul Nicholas providing the narration, and renarrated in by Jane Horrocks. It consisted of 13 episodes, each 5 minutes long. The episodes were narrated by Paul Nicholas original version and the music was composed by Duncan Lamont original version. Once again, the episodes were produced by King Rollo Films. Paul Nicholas original version returned as the voices and Duncan Lamont original version returned as composer of the music. Like The Adventures of Spot, this series consisted of thirteen episodes, but this time, with a short song in them. The format of the series reverted to the narration format used prior to the specials. For these episodes, however, comedian Jane Horrocks was given the role of the narration and voices, instead of Paul Nicholas. The episodes and the songs were all written by Andrew Brenner , and the songs were performed by American London-based actor Dan Russell. The music was also composed by Kick Production. It consisted of four episodes, each approximately fifteen minutes in length, and narrated by Peter Hawkins. The theme song used in The Adventures of Spot was licensed from King Rollo Films, so the familiar tune by Duncan Lamont was heard at the beginning and end of each episode. However, music on the show was kept to a minimum.
