However, they share many traits, so the pups are typically quite similar when considering their potential personalities. Even though its history is a gruesome one, the English Bulldog has grown into a lovable and sweet dog with a gentle disposition and loads of patience. The Golden Retriever is reputably one of the gentlest dogs out there. They are loving and intelligent. They have been trained as companion dogs and guide dogs for the blind for many years because they are so reliable. The pups will have gentle hearts, be big on cuddling and personal time, and have outgoing and fun-loving personalities. These puppies can inherit serious health issues. It quickly became popular around the world and was recognized by the American Kennel Club in .The Retrievers were bred for just that purpose: to retrieve and hunt waterfowl. Since they often spent quite a bit of time in the water, webbed feet were bred into them to make it easier for them to swim, even with all their hair. The origin country of the English Bulldog should be easy to guess from their name. They were initially bred in England and are also called a British Bulldog. They were considered a classic type of dog and were recognized by the AKC in .Their compact size and thick, muscular stature can be explained by their initial purpose, to be the perfect bull fighting dog. This sport is where the pup receives its moniker: Bulldog. They were meant to be powerful yet short enough to attack the bull from underneath. In the 19th century, the grisly sport was outlawed in England. The popularity of the English Bulldog had spread, so the breed was maintained as a family pet and sometimes a working dog. Both of the dog breeds are intelligent. Combining this with their general lack of stubbornness makes them an incredibly easy dog to train in most cases. Both of the parents are known for a desire to please their people. Loyalty is another shared trait. The devotion and attachment they show to their family cannot be outmatched in many other dogs, since this pup has a double dose. Both of these dogs show up on lists of being some of the most affectionate dog breeds. They like to spend as much time as possible around people, trying to get close to you for cuddles as often as possible. Together, this makes them a loving mix. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Both of the parental breeds have practically boundless patience. Golden Retrievers have been used as emotional support dogs and guide dogs for many years. This patience and adaptability keep them behaving well, with no aggression, even if they start to get annoyed. With any dog breed interacting with young kids who might not understand how to behave around dogs, it is a good idea to continue to monitor their time together until they get older. The best thing to do for your pup is to socialize them early on if you want their interactions with other animals to be positive. Make sure they get used to and know how to behave around strangers. Bring them to dog parks to understand social aspects within the puppy community. If you have a cat, introduce them carefully. Designer Dogs Designer mixed breeds are a relatively recent development in the history of dogs. They were created to combine the best characteristics of two different breeds. Are mixed breed dogs healthier than purebreds? You may have heard of the term hybrid vigor. This means that when two different breeds are crossed, the resulting genetic diversity will result in healthier offspring. While hybrid vigor is real, in the case of the Golden Retriever Bulldog mix, the significant health problems of the English Bulldog will play an important role in the health of the cross. They are much shorter than the Golden, with both males and females standing between 14 and 15 inches tall at the shoulder. The Bulldog coat is short and smooth. It comes in a wider range of colors than the Golden and can also have patterns and markings. Golden Retriever and Bulldog Mix Description All mixed breed dogs can inherit the physical characteristics of either parent, in any combination. Generally, the Golden Retriever Bulldog mix is a medium sized dog that falls within the Golden and Bulldog weight ranges. Height can vary, given the height differences of the parent breeds. Many Golden Retriever Bulldog mixes will have somewhat wrinkly skin on the body and face. Remember that skin wrinkles need to be kept clean and dry. Coat length can range from short to medium. Tan colored coats are often seen in this cross. Your pup may inherit the coat markings of the Bulldog parent. You can still expect to brush your dog a few times a week to keep shedding under control. Golden Retriever Bulldog Mix Temperament and Training As with physical appearance, your dog can also inherit the personality of either parent breed, in any combination. Both parent breeds have loving and loyal personalities and are known as gentle dogs that do well in families with children. Because they are obedient and eager to please, Golden Retrievers are known for their trainability. Many well trained Goldens work as service dogs. Bulldogs are also very trainable, thanks to their easygoing temperament and eagerness to please their owners. What About the Mix? Speaking of exercise, the head and body structure of the Bulldog makes many activities difficult and even dangerous for this breed. Bulldog Health Sadly, the English Bulldog has several significant health issues that potential owners of an English Bulldog Golden Retriever mix should know about. English Bulldogs suffer from a lack of genetic diversity. This inbreeding, combined with the extreme physical appearance of the dog, has led to health issues so debilitating that many dog experts warn that the breed cannot survive. Signifcant Health Issues The physical structure of the Bulldog requires breeding interventions such as artificial insemination and C-section births. The flat muzzle, called brachycephaly , leads to many chronic health problems caused by restricted airflow to the lungs. The facial structure also causes dental problems. The exaggerated skin folds can lead to infections of the skin and eyes. This is only a partial list of the many health problems of the English Bulldog. Any potential owner of a Bulldog or Bulldog mix should be aware of the significant commitment of time and money required to properly care for the dog. You may also want to consider an American Bulldog Retriever mix instead. Goldens can suffer from hereditary health problems including hip and elbow dysplasia, some eye conditions cataracts and pigmentary uveitis , and heart disease subvalvular aortic stenosis. Responsible breeders will screen their Golden breeding stock for these conditions. Elevated Risk of Cancer You should also be aware of the elevated risk for cancer in the Golden Retriever breed. The most concerning cancers in Goldens are high-grade mast cell tumors, osteosarcoma, hemangiosarcoma, and lymphoma. Researchers are conducting ongoing studies of cancer in the breed, including the genetic and environmental risk factors that may be involved. Your Golden Retriever Bulldog mix can inherit health problems from both parent breeds. How can you ensure that your puppy is as healthy as possible? Cardiac issues. Bulldogs — American, English, or French — also suffer from issues related to their short muzzle type. The pushed-in face creates an adorable infant-like facial appearance that hides concerning health issues. Among the most severe include trouble chewing and swallowing, gastrointestinal issues, respiratory and ocular issues, and BOAS. As VCA Animal Hospital explains, BOAS can cause airway obstruction, sleep apnea, respiratory difficulties, reflux, tracheal and bronchial collapse, and systemic inflammation. Mild cases of BOAS can often be controlled with medication and lifestyle modification. Severe cases often require corrective surgery. A diagnosis of BOAS also typically means the dog will not be able to travel by air. It is important to understand how purchasing or adopting a dog with BOAS may impact your lifestyle before you make the lifetime commitment to a puppy or rescue dog. Why Hybrid Dog Breeding Is Different from Purebred Dog Breeding Established purebred dog breed lines tend to consistently produce puppies with a certain appearance and temperament. This is because the genes that produce variations have been mostly weeded out. The same cannot be said of hybrid dog breeding programs, however. Because these programs are newer, it is not always easy to predict how much influence each purebred dog parent will have over the genetics of a given puppy. As Breeding Business highlights, in very early hybrid litters typically called F1 or F1b , this means two puppies from the same litter can potentially look and act quite differently from each other. For this reason, the best way to guesstimate what to expect is to take a closer look at the personality and temperament of the Golden Retriever and Bulldog parent dogs. What type of personality will your hybrid pup inherit? Will your Golden Bull be laid-back and easygoing or energetic and high-strung? The Golden Retriever is part of the sporting group of dog breeds. Bred to work as a hunting companion to humans, these dogs adore being with people. They are famously friendly, good with kids, and even good with other dogs. They do not make good guard dogs because they may fail to recognize a threat in their eagerness to greet the intruder! Bulldogs are described as friendly, calm, and courageous. They do make good but not great guard dogs with the proper training. Bulldogs love people and are good with kids. They tend to get along well with other dogs and are very social and playful. Both Golden Retrievers and Bulldogs tend to get along well with people and other dogs. They make average guard dogs at best. They are friendly and happy-go-lucky overall. So it would be reasonable to expect your Golden Bulldog to have at least some if not all of these same qualities. Golden Retriever Bulldog Mix Coat and Grooming Where you will see a lot more variation is in the coat type your Golden Bulldog may potentially inherit. Here, the variance is easy to see. The Golden Retriever has a medium to long thick wavy golden coat. The Bulldog, in contrast, has a short, flat, neat coat. Both have a double layer coat, with an insulating inner layer and a wind and water repellant outer layer. So what coat type will your Golden Bulldog grow up to have? The puppy coat is always a single layer. But once your pup passes the six-month mark, you can expect the puppy coat to start shedding out as the adult coat grows in. In either case, however, you can expect a lot of shedding, especially seasonally as the undercoat sheds out in bulk. The Golden Bulldog is definitely going to require a lot of brushing and sweeping during these times to control dead, shed hair. Golden Retriever Bulldog Mix Training and Exercise Another important aspect to consider with any hybrid dog breed is the potential for your puppy to grow up with very different exercise and training needs than what you expect. But here again, there is one thing both the Golden Retriever and the Bulldog breeds share in common. In both cases, you will need to wait until your veterinarian confirms that your puppy is done growing before allowing them to do any sustained playing or running. This is to protect the leg bones and skeletal system from harm. This is when it will be safe to let your little pup run and play more vigorously. Golden Retriever training According to the Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida , adult Golden Retrievers need at least one hour per day of moderate to vigorous exercise and play to stay happy and calm. Luckily, Goldens scores high in people-pleasing, which is a good temperament to make fast progress in dog training. Bulldog training As Castlewood Bulldogs kennel points out, Bulldogs need about half the daily exercise that Golden Retrievers do. And Bulldogs fare better when you break up the exercise into shorter increments. This helps these dogs avoid overheating and respiratory distress associated with their flattened face shape. Bulldogs can be stubborn and strong-willed. Using positive training methods with reinforcements like praise and treats is the best way to get a Bulldog to go along with training. Golden Bulldog training This gives you an overview of how much exercise your Golden Bulldog is likely to need as well as a picture of whether training will be easy or more challenging. The Golden Retriever typically weighs between 55 and 75 pounds and stands .The Bulldog typically weighs 40 to 55 pounds and stands just 12 to 16 inches tall with a stout, squat body. So you will need to be prepared for your Golden Bulldog puppy to be either a medium or a large dog breed. However, as several recent videos on TikTok have shown us, those of us with breeds made for living and working in harsher climates will often have a hard time getting our Siberian husky or Samoyed to come in just because there's a little snow on the ground. Or a lot of snow, even. Here are eight dogs who will happily trade in their swim trunks for snow shoes , no matter how much their pet parents beg them to come inside. Larry Take Larry, for instance: He's not the least bit perturbed by the cold and, even though his human needs to leave and wants him in the house, Larry's not having it. I especially like his human's frustrated barb of "you … stubborn husky. You should probably come inside. This video, captioned "When the hooman thinks she can bribe you to come inside with treats … " shows a beautiful but completely nonplussed husky refusing to budge from his snow bank, even as the leash tries to tug him towards warmth. Enzo the Pile of Snow But it's not just huskies that get in on the snowy fun. He sees no reason to budge in the middle of this snowstorm. Not only is he perfectly warm, he's got a toy with him. What else does he need?? Points For Trying! Sometimes, even dogs that we don't think of as cold weather breeds will still find more fun outside than in. Like our friend here, Blue. Blue is a golden retriever and is not nearly as good at camouflage as he thinks he is. He's got a nice bed out on the deck. Sure, it might be covered in snow at the moment, but what's that got to do with anything? Almost makes you wonder if Leo's heard of heated dog beds —we bet this dude wouldn't budge from his spot with one of those bad boys under his tush. Only Thing Missing? Finally, there are some dogs who aren't content to just be out in the snow themselves. For these social pups, the cold must be a shared experience. And they don't want to share it with anyone in the world more than their own, favored humans. Get ready to bundle up for some playtime! Who knows, maybe you and your pooch will find a new favorite winter activity to do together. Skijoring , anyone? Was this page helpful? His love and compassion for Boxers was felt by those who had the pleasure of spending time with him. Ken loved sports and spending time with friends. He also collected sports memorabilia and other collectibles like Hot Wheels. He truly loved Milo, featured in the the photo with him. Every time we received a message from him he included a picture of him and Milo. He never gave up hope that some treatment would be the ultimate cure. He worked as long as he could and made his journey to the light in late June. His weakened system just couldn't fight any longer. He will be deeply missed by WCBR, and we wish his family peace with his loss. Thank you to so many who have donated to WCBR in his memory. Ken will forever be in our hearts. We need your help. The number of Boxers being surrendered by families and in the shelters is overwhelming. We continue to receive owner surrenders a week, along with multiple pleas from surrounding shelters for Boxers in need. So many Boxer are coming from families that are no longer able to financially care for them, just don't want them, many are dealing with illness or the Boxer's pet parent has passed away, and many just are moving. Without the funding or foster homes, sadly we have to turn away these surrenders. Please Foster, Fund or be a Forever Home. Boxers are without a doubt the most loving and devoted dogs one is likely to come upon. When a friend mentored me in breeding one of my female boxers, it set in motion the world of Boxer breeding. From that point on my knowledge of the Boxer breed grew. Eventually, I entered the world of show dogs, and that was it! I had to try the show ring myself. Lottie was the first dog I attempted to show, followed by DeeDee; both were pointed by the time they retired. Apollo was my first home-bred champion. He was a delight to work with and he finished his championship at seventeen months old. In typical Boxer fashion, they keep me company throughout the day, and make me laugh so hard at their antics it makes me cry, they give comfort without knowing I needed it, and they give me a reason to go on. What would I ever do without them? General was a great family pet, guardian and playmate to my children as well as to the kids in the neighborhood. But he had heart and soul and dedication to his family that you could not help but love—and that makes boxers unique among dogs. General was the reason I fell in love with the breed, and I have had boxers ever since. Ginger integrated into the family to such an extent that each time the kids got sick, so did she—sympathy pains, said the vet. Her biggest thrill was to pull my son on the skate board. Ginger was so devoted that she never retired to her own bed until the last member of the family was home and in bed, too. Shanna was the first little girl that I bred. She had three beautiful litters. Her name should have been Lady as she was a perfect little lady from the time I brought her home. Page had those beautiful eyes that spoke volumes; with those eyes, her eyebrows and expressive face, she practically talked out loud to me. I still remember waking to those eyes peering at me as I slept, her head resting on the mattress. It seemed she just could not wait until morning to see me again and would sneak into the bedroom just to be near me. DeeDee was the ruler of all dogs in the house, social butterfly to visitors, and relentless at engaging everyone in playing ball. The epitome of a desirable obedience dog, her talent was natural and un-taught. She just automatically knew the rules, conformed to them herself—and made sure everyone else did, too. DeeDee was loving and devoted with every ounce of her being; I miss her still. Lottie was my little rescue girl. Stoic in nature but smart as can be, she lived up to her naughty Lottie self. Apollo, my first home bred champion, was my shadow, never letting me out of his site. Devoted to a fault, he would dash out the door when he knew we were going for a ride, but would stop every few feet and look back to be sure I was coming. Then he would dash again toward the car. Pilot promised to my daughter but kept by me, but he is the pet that I just could not part with. It was more that he chose me than the other way around. He has so much love to give, and I think he had no other goal in life than to be at my side. What a boy! He will soon garner his Grand Championship title only a few more points. He is happiest at night when after an exhausting doggie day, he can curl up and spoon on the floor with anyone that is down there. Sometimes he is just happy to sit on the couch and put his head in your lap. Maddie, is living with one of my best friends. She has attained her Canadian Championship and her American Championship! Cienna is my handful of trouble and joy. She came to me through Deborah Schenher of Bayridge Boxers. Cienna is my daily challenge and strength. Quite the little show girl, she has attained her Canadian and American Championship. She is now content to patrol the backyard to chase off any rabbits, birds, or squirrels—and to bark relentlessly at the deer on the other side of the fence until they decide to move on. Then, job completed, she takes up her chosen space on the couch. She is getting up there in age and I treasure each day I spend with her. She is still a beauty to behold, and a lovable soul. She is quite the kisser, she will bound over to you and if your not careful she will bowl you over with a kiss, surprise! She is special. He is sweet, silly, snuggly, and ridiculously cute. He is just about everything that is good in a dog. Petey loves to entertain himself and others with his playful attitude and his puppy-like antics. He loves to start each day with a happy morning wiggle dance, and he will perform encores throughout the day. Petey is an affectionate fellow. He only gives occasional kisses, but loves to get close to you; nuzzle you; lean; poke at you with his front feet as boxers do; and when he is feeling silly which is often! He is accustomed to sleeping in bed with a person and snuggling all night. Truthfully, he can get away without it inside the home because he is an easy, good boy to live with! However, he is overly excited out in the world, on walks, in the car, and seeing new people and animals, so he would benefit from some guidance to help him behave calmly in those situations. At this point, meeting people is extremely exciting, but meeting dogs is just too overwhelming for him to handle. Petey had a dramatic entrance into rescue, as he was pulled from the shelter while he was suffering from bloat a medical emergency fatal within hours. Pulling a dog in critical condition, when we know the cost will be tremendous and a good outcome far from guaranteed, requires a leap of faith. The shelter vet bought Petey time by puncturing his stomach to decompress the gas that was building up. Within an hour of first being contacted by the shelter, a flurry of communication had occurred, an NCBR volunteer darted to the shelter, delivered Petey to an emergency vet, and Petey was being prepped for surgery. But we are overjoyed to say that Petey made it through surgery and is now recovering in the hospital. Petey Donor Spotlight: Doreen Murotsune For many of us who give our hearts, time, or dollars to rescue, we are first inspired by the love of a single special dog. Hana belonged to friends of Doreen, but Doreen and her boxer, Benjamin, fell in love with her. Benjamin and Hana were best friends, and Benjamin was always on the lookout for Hana and ready to protect her from any yappy Chihuahua who tried to intimidate her. In addition to being an active Strut Your Mutt teammate for each of the past 5 years, Doreen browses the boxers in our care and sponsors many dogs whose stories warm her heart. She not only sponsors dogs with single or repeat financial gifts, but also inquires about dogs with prescription diet needs and then purchases those diets on an autoship schedule, having the food mailed directly to foster homes. He was a very handsome American bulldog who was only about six years old at the time. A sweet boy who just needed a stable home environment, Hercules was lucky enough to find exactly just that in a woman who had a carries a fondness for bullies. His new mum found time to write us a little bit about how Hercules, now Sherman, has settled into his new life. I have a special fondness for English bullies, as mine is now 9 years old, so I immediately went down to the local SPCA branch with full intentions of fitting this little guy into our family. As I looked into his cage, I immediately noticed that this was no English bully, but rather a skinny American bulldog of sorts. My heart sank but something made me stay and want to know more about this particular pooch. I heard that he was indeed 6 years old and that he was surrendered because apparently the new girlfriend thought he was mean, coupled with some relocation issues. Did I really want to subject my two lovelies at home to a potentially vicious dog? And was I up for the challenge? One of the ladies at the SPCA suggested that I bring my two dogs down and introduce them to see what happens. I returned a half hour later with my dogs in tow. We went into an outdoor enclosure and Hercules was brought in. Then… nothing happened. They ignored each other. They gave each other a quick sniff and then went on about their business. So the decision was made to bring Hercules home and see what happens. That was a year and a half ago, and all I can say is that my life would not have been complete without him. He is so filled with joy and wonder about what each new day will bring. He is the greatest foot warmer on the planet, and has a heart of gold. He is perfectly mannered, oh and his name is Sherman. We decided to immediately change his name to signal a fresh start to which he has readily accepted. He has two brothers and lives on an acreage where he gets lots of exercise and companionship. I write this with the sincere hopes that others will consider adopting an older dog. Puppies are all cute and cuddly but an older dog seems to know that you have saved them, and are eternally grateful for that opportunity. As well, older dogs generally know basic commands along with house etiquette. No chewed up wires, remotes, etc. Sherman was 6 years old when he came into our lives and I cannot put into words just how much love he has brought into our lives. To say that I had no concerns in the very beginning would be a lie. I am SO grateful that he was able to have opportunity to prove that he is nowhere close to the type of dog that he was portrayed to be. I went to the SPCA that day to adopt a cute little English bulldog, and what I came home with was this scrawny, goofy looking American bulldog mix with a bad rap.

Breeders VS. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. In addition to the typical concerns like his nails and his coat, bulldogs have squishy, wrinkly faces that need daily attention. Giving them a good wipe keeps your pooch happy, healthy and good-smelling. Brushing Don't be fooled by the short-haired coat. Your bulldog needs to be brushed every single day to facilitate shedding and prevent matted, lumpy fur. Your best bet is to take him outside for a brushing session, as he can lose a surprising amount of hair in a short time. Be gentle when brushing him, as bulldogs have sensitive skin. For that same reason, use a soft-bristled brush instead of a hard metal one. Bathing Your bulldog doesn't need a bath every day. In fact, he shouldn't have one every day, as bathing your dog too often can strip his hair and skin of essential oils. Instead, bathe your dog on an "as-needed" basis, such as when he is visibly dirty or starts to smell. Always use a shampoo formulated for dogs, as these are different from human shampoos. You may need to pay special attention to his rear end. Because of his stocky build, he can't always reach his backside to clean up after eliminating. If he has any lingering mess, wipe it off with a damp towel. Face and Ears Adorable as those face wrinkles are, your bulldog's face can hide a dirty secret—literally. Bacteria and grime builds up between those big, floppy folds, so you have to clean them out every day to prevent infection and odor. Your pet store sells medicated pads that you can use to gently wipe out the facial folds, but you can also use a cotton ball dipped in baby oil. The skin between the folds is even more sensitive than the rest of your dog, so he may resist a little bit. Making this part of your daily routine will help him get used to it, and both of you will be happier for it. Nails and Teeth If doggy breath gets you down, incorporate daily dental hygiene into his routine. Using toothpaste and a toothbrush designed for dogs, give his teeth a cursory scrub every day. Keep an eye on his nails, too. While no dog needs his nails trimmed every single day, they do need periodic attention. If you don't feel confident clipping them yourself, a professional groomer will take care of it. When your pooch starts to chew his nails, it's time for a trim. More Articles. Demonstrate that care through a regular commitment of proper grooming, neighbors and family will recognize this. Neat and Fresh Appearance Last but not least, A well-groomed bulldog will appear neat and attractive, making you a proud owner. Everyone will see and admire your beautiful bully, making it a highlight when going for walks or traveling around town. On the flip-side, When you have not invested quality time and energy into the grooming of your dog, this will not shine as your proudest moment. You and your bulldog may want to hide in shame. Having been convinced of the numerous benefits that come with the regular grooming of your dog, you may want to know how to properly clean your bulldog. It may also help you be able to reach all around their body easily. Bathing You may be tempted to bath your bulldog daily to have a clean coat of fur and eradicate bad odor. However, this might not be as good as your think. Daily bathing can actually remove oils that are often present on the coat of the dog. These natural oils are essential to keeping smooth skin and a shiny coat of fur. You can watch our full video on bathing bulldogs on our YouTube channel. Hence, it is recommended you bathe your bulldog every two weeks or whenever you notice excessive filth. Avoid Excessive use of Shampoo Excessive use of shampoo can also make the fur coat of your dog appear jaded. Hence, you should be moderate with the use of shampoo when grooming your dog. Anything done in excess will become harmful. Just the same way excessive use of cosmetics affects humans adversely, it is also the same for bulldogs. The issue with this is that the skin and the hair will dry out. Dry skin and hair can create an irritation, which may cause bodily scratching, and possibly sores or cut skin. Every tangle in the hair will also be effectively dealt with through this activity. Loose hairs are also removed through this process. This will help you avoid the stress of having to clean off such hairs from your carpet later on. Regular Wiping of Face and Ears The face and ears of your bully should be wiped regularly. You should have pet wipes in order to achieve this. This will also help your dog stay healthy and maintain a good appearance. You should regularly check the ears to minimize the buildup of excessive wax. Read this great article on cleaning bulldog tear stains. Trimming of the Nails Both you and your bulldog are endangered when the nails grow too long. Accidental scratching, ripping stuffed toys or furnishings, and even the possibility of breaking a nail. Such potential injuries can be avoided through regular grooming as nails are trimmed to an acceptable length. Never cut the nail all the way back to the paw. If the dog breath becomes unbearable it may be time to brush its teeth. Dog teeth can rot, become infected, and yellow when not routinely cleaned. If you are not using the tips provided, begin doing so today! You can prevent several infections just by the simple task of regularly grooming your bully. Your bulldog deserves your care and love. Your commitment to the regular grooming of your four-legged friend is a great way to demonstrate this. Post Views: 1, While you can generally do these with commonly used items like cotton swabs and washcloths, it is possible to buy particular products for this purpose. Bulldogs need to be washed and brushed, and certain body parts, like the face and ears, must be cleaned separately. Brushing An English bulldog should be brushed at least three times per week, especially when the dog is shedding its hair in the spring and summer. Do the brushing with a soft bristle or rubber brush, first against the grain of the hair and then with the grain. Washing Although a bath doesn't have to be a daily procedure, it is good to wash your bulldog often. Block the dog's ears with cotton balls before the bath and apply drops of mineral oil to its eyes. Then wash the dog with water and mild soap, or with a pH-balanced pet shampoo. Lather everywhere, including between the toes and under the tail and genitals. Rinse the soap off well and dry the dog with a towel. Ear Care English bulldogs have sensitive ears that need to be carefully cleaned to avoid damaging them. You can do this with a warm washcloth, cotton ball or, if done very carefully, a cotton swab. It is also possible to buy a solution from a veterinarian made specifically to clean the dog's ears. Face Care English bulldogs have wrinkly faces; they require special cleaning that, in some cases, has to be done daily. The older the dog becomes, the more wrinkles it has. Rub the dog's wrinkles with petroleum jelly to keep the skin soft. Clean them with a wet cloth or baby wipes and then dry them well. The nose wrinkle is particularly important, and may require the application of diaparene ointment, a form of zinc oxide. A medium-sized dog, they are not your typical lap dog, but would like to be! The Bulldog may be brindle, white, red, fawn, fallow or piebald. Breed Profile Bulldogs are recognized as excellent family pets because of their tendency to form strong bonds with children. They tend to be gentle and protective. The breed requires minimal grooming and exercise. Their short nose makes them prone to overheating in warm weather, so make sure to provide a shady place to rest. Source: American Kennel Club - www. This kind yet courageous dog can be bathed as frequently as every week up to no more than every six weeks depending on his lifestyle. With this smooth coated breed, regular bathing is essential to maintain healthy skin and coat. Lightly card the coat to help accelerate shedding. Once you have selected the best products for your Bulldog, it is bath time! One area to pay particular attention to detail is the facial area. A facial cleanser allows you to focus on the entire facial surface as well as any facial wrinkles. Any wrinkles, however minor they may be, can hold bacteria. It is imperative to pay particular attention to those areas. The facial scrub can be used in between baths in order maintain freshness and good hygiene while helping to lift fresh stains. Finishing the Dog: Tools and Finish Grooming This kind, courageous, yet dignified dog should be bathed and groomed on a regular basis. In order to keep the short, smooth coat in prime condition, it is always beneficial to use a hydrating spray following the bath and drying process. This allows the skin and coat to lock in moisture in order to maintain perfect hydration. As a finishing touch, before using a hydrating spray, use a grooming mitt and massage in a circular motion to stimulate the release of natural oils in addition to the removal of any excess loose hairs. Then finish with a hydrating spray. General Health Care Prep work is the foundation of all grooming. Prep work includes ear cleaning, nail trimming, anal glands, and proper dental hygiene. Mastering these skills sets the professional pet stylist apart from the rest. Prep work should be done before every bathing and grooming appointment. All dogs need to have their ears checked and cleaned on a regular basis. Proper nail care is also very important. Long, unsightly nails are uncomfortable for the dog, as well as anyone they might jump on. Long nails also compromise the shape of the foot. Trimming the pads of the foot helps give the dog good traction on different surfaces and can minimize the amount of dirt the dog tracks into the house. It also affords the opportunity to treat and condition the paws from cracks and abrasions. Anal glands should also be checked and expressed if they are full. Some caring pet owners prefer to have the anal glands done by their veterinarian. Good dental hygiene is essential for a healthy pet as well. Nutritional Care In order to maintain healthy skin and coat as well as overall health, it is important to provide good nutrition to your dog through a well-balanced diet, vitamins, and healthy treats. Do they require a lot of grooming? If you are not a fan of cutting hair, then you have made the right selection of choosing a Bulldog. This smooth, short haired bundle of joy requires minimal grooming. However, weekly brushing is recommended. It is important to wash their face and pay particular attention to the wrinkles at least weekly if not twice a week. What is a common problem in bulldogs? The Bulldog is a member of the brachycephalic breed class, meaning that is has a short head and snout. This physical characteristic can lead to a number of possible health challenges, including those of the nose, eyes, teeth, and respiratory system. The nostrils are narrower, and the soft palate longer in the Bulldog, creating the potential for severe breathing problems, especially when the dog is overheated or over excited. Heat is a special concern with this breed, since it is not able to cool itself efficiently through panting, as other breeds do. Some of the major health problems the Bulldog is susceptible to are keratoconjunctivitis sicca KCS , ventricular septal defect, canine hip dysplasia CHD , shoulder luxation, internalized tail, stenotic nares, and elongated soft palate. The Bulldog has also been known to suffer from urethral prolapse or vaginal hyperplasia occasionally. Some minor problems affecting Bulldogs include entropion, cherry eye, elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, distichiasis, ectropion, and demodicosis. Do Bulldogs shed or cause allergies? Bulldogs do shed, but not as much as other breeds. There are breeds that produce less dander than other breeds. However, Bulldogs are not one of those breeds that produce less dander. Are Bulldogs good with children? Bulldogs are dependable and predictable. Because of this, the make a wonderful family pet and actively solicit human attention. Like any breed, you should never leave your Bulldog unattended with small children. What if I have a show dog? Whether you have a show dog or a companion quality dog, the same basic care is given regarding nutrition, socialization, and hygiene. The difference is the conditioning of the dog and conformation training. It is always quite helpful if your breeder can help mentor you to lead you in the right direction upon entering the wonderful world of dog shows. A great place to start is with the national breed club like the Bulldog of America, www. May we suggest

Although they are not recognized by the American Kennel Club, they are recognized by other canine registries. One of the facts about Bernedoodles is that they are true companion dogs. They are cuddly companions that love nothing more than being with their favorite humans. As long as they are well-socialized and trained, Mini Bernedoodles tend to get along well with children, other dogs, other pets, and even strangers. Miniature Bernedoodles are highly adaptable dogs. They do well in larger homes as well as apartments. They are sensitive to heat and extreme cold, but do well in most climates. Because they bond so closely with their families and thrive on attention, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time and can develop separation anxiety if you do not work with them early on. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. You can ask about the health and genetic history of the parents and about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Mini Bernedoodles are intelligent dogs that pick up on things quickly and are eager to please. This makes them a highly trainable dog that is a good fit for owners of all experience levels. They can become stubborn if training is not consistent or clear. Although their coat tends to be low-shedding and will range from straight to wavy or curly, the Mini Bernedoodle coat requires some maintenance. Daily brushing is recommended to remove tangles and prevent mats. Professional grooming is recommended every weeks. Nail trims once or twice monthly keep them from growing too long and causing issues. Ear checks on a weekly basis with careful cleanings as needed help to prevent ear infections. As a small dog breed, Mini Bernedoodles are more prone to developing gum disease. Good dental care for dogs early and consistently throughout their life can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. Daily tooth brushing, plus cleanings at the vet as needed, is ideal. Although Mini Bernedoodles will be playful and have bursts of energy while playing, they are not high-energy dogs. They tend to sit in a more moderate range. Daily walks plus some playtime throughout the day are usually enough for them. But, they love spending time with you and will likely be up for more activity if you are. They may be smaller dogs, but they also tend to be relatively athletic. When puppies finish growing , you can try higher-impact activities like running, hiking, training for dog sports, and more. Fully-grown Mini Bernedoodles usually stand inches tall. They can range from pounds. F1B and F2 Mini Bernedoodles usually weigh pounds and are on the shorter side of the range. These byproducts can include organ meats or entrails, which often contain more nutrients than, say, plain chicken breast. Another misconception is that dogs should eat grain-free diets. But food labels can be a little vague and confusing, so below is an explanation of what some of these terms mean, according to the Merck Veterinary Manual and the AKC. There is one caveat though. For instance, flaked corn, ground corn, and kibbled corn could be sprinkled in an ingredient list and not be listed as the first few ingredients, but in reality, if you were to add them all up they are all corn, after all , you might find that this food is made mostly of corn. The same goes for chicken, chicken meal, and chicken byproduct. Meat vs. Meat Meal vs. The quality of these ingredients can vary widely, so be sure to talk to your vet about this and choose a reputable brand of food. Below are a few examples: Obesity. Golden Retrievers love food and they do have a tendency to become overweight if you let them. This problem can often affect these next two problems… Joint issues. Golden Retrievers are prone to hot spots and excess protein in their diets can be a factor that causes them. Many goldens suffer from food allergies. One cup of Brand X food may have calories per cup, while Brand Y has calories per cup. During a vet visit our veterinarian said he looked too small and lethargic for a puppy his age about 8 weeks at the time , and he recommended we feed him a little more. As far as how often to feed your puppy, this same rule applies. For us, we fed Oliver three times per day until he was a little over a year old. Getting a Golden Retriever Puppy? Get the gameplan for raising them right with the Golden Retriever Puppy Handbook. Those two statements may sound random, but they are related. According to the Banfield Pet Hospital , overfeeding your Golden Retriever can cause them to grow too fast and increase their risk of hip dysplasia. Since puppies are growing and adults are just maintaining their weight, they have different dietary needs. And for fats, puppy food should have at least 8. Many foods will have the same vitamins that pills have already in them, but on the other hand, some breeders require that you give your puppy vitamins for their health guarantee to be valid. First, we unknowingly started him off on one of the brands listed in the graph above that is correlated with DCM. Then we switched to another brand that he just sort of liked. If we were to have another puppy, we would definitely start with the Royal Canin Golden Retriever Puppy food. How To Switch Food Brands The other day I was talking to someone who was complaining that her puppy was having lots of stomach issues. Dogs have sensitive stomachs so if you want to switch foods, you need to do it slowly. You should take about a week to transition from the old food to the new brand. Be the first to know when we have new puppies! All Rights Reserved. They are growing quickly, so while they eat smaller quantities of food than adult dogs, they need to extract far more nutrients like protein, minerals, and vitamins, to sustain their growth and development. Different Dogs, Different Diets Nutritional needs vary from breed to breed. One only needs to look at golden retrievers to know they require a different diet than a Chihuahua! For example, joint and bone problems are much more common in big dogs than in little ones, but choosing the right puppy food can reduce the risk. Large-breed puppy food has reduced amounts of calcium and phosphorus, which helps control the rate of skeletal growth. Also, you may find puppy foods that contain glucosamine and chondroitin to support joint health and mobility. By consuming too much food, your puppy will have elevated levels of the very nutrients that should be limited. Additionally, overweight puppies may develop other health issues such as diabetes and heart disease. Good eating habits developed during puppyhood will lead to a healthy mature dog in the years to come. Nutrition For The Outside One of the most visible components of your dog is its fur. Nutrition plays a vital role in this area. A large percentage of the protein your puppy takes in goes towards maintaining its coat. Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids are also essential for healthy skin and fur. Which Food Do I Choose? There will always be those who buy the cheapest brand on the market. Some will opt for the most expensive, while others will simply go with a brand name they recognize. The key is to find the right food for your particular puppy. One thing you cannot afford to ignore is the nutritional content. Because they are still growing, puppies need more protein than adults. Proteins foster muscle growth and development in puppies and lean muscle maintenance in adults, so the more of it there is in a diet, the better it is for your growing retriever. Fats, too, are important for golden puppies because they provide the energy required for everyday activities. You should be careful, however, not to feed your golden excess calories because this will result in excess weight or obesity. Eventually, your dog will end up battling joint problems. For instance, less expensive dog foods typically have lower-quality ingredients. The contents are often inexpensive, low-grade animal protein sources, like by-products and fillers. Fillers are frequently things like cornmeal, rice flour, or seed hulls. In general, thoroughly review the nutritional content of your chosen diet. Are the ingredients wholesome and natural? Does the diet have controlled calcium and phosphorous levels? Is the calorie and fat content limited to manage growth? Does the label state that the diet is complete and balanced? This can lead to obesity and will certainly cause increased defecation. The latter of these two issues will make house training more difficult than it already is. By contrast, costlier dog foods usually have higher-quality ingredients. The scales will be tipped heavily in favor of high-grade animal protein sources and fillers will be few and far between. Price is not, however, a guarantee of quality. The best dog foods for a golden retriever puppy are made with high-quality natural ingredients and have high levels of protein. Make sure the food is complete and balanced for daily feeding and formulated to meet the nutritional needs of large breed puppies. At this point, golden retriever puppies have likely already been switched to dry puppy food and you should continue feeding your pup the same type of food the breeder used. From the day you bring them home until they are six months old, you should feed your golden retriever puppy three times a day. Ideally, your pup should have breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. A grain-free diet is the default meal for golden retrievers that are sensitive to grains, but if your dog is healthy, feeding her such a meal boils down to choice. A lot has been said about grain-free diets. Reports and studies have been carried out in recent years trying to establish any connection between it and Canine Dilated Cardiomyopathy DCM. That all starts with choosing the best puppy food for golden retrievers. Avoid low-cost foods that are more filler than substance, and look for better foods that are packed with nutrients to help your puppy grow. In particular, consider trying a large breed formula to meet the specific needs of your golden retriever puppy. Good nutrition is an essential part of any health regimen, and providing high-quality puppy food will lay the foundation for a long, and enjoyable life. You May Also Like.

Cooper is definitely one of the smartest dogs I ever met. However, he is not very obedient. He always thinks first whether he really wants to do it or not. Our dog trainer explained that this is normal for a Lab. But I will try. Cooper is a very active dog. Although he is very friendly, our Labrador does have some guarding qualities. He will bark if a stranger comes into our yard or our house and he will follow the new person around just to keep them in sight, just in case. Once he is confident that a person is our friend, he relaxes too. Yes, he is quite an attention seeker! If the guest does play with him, Cooper will keep bringing them his slobbery dog toys and chew bones and even some of the socks he stole from us. He has never been openly aggressive though, to anyone, which we really like about him. Like many Labrador Retrievers, Cooper loves many people, pretty much everybody. But he is very self-willed and really only listens to me and my husband. Speaking of kids, we had to sort of teach Cooper to behave with our son. He seems to think that Jake is only there to constantly play with him which of course Jake does a lot, but Cooper can be pretty rough. Labradors are extremely smart. They need to evaluate the situation and make their own decision before following the command. He can also be sneaky and sly. When I tell him to do something, for example, to go to his place, he will start walking, and then look back at me halfway to see if I really meant it and if I was still looking. When he was a puppy, he was absolutely wild and thought he could do anything he wanted. If we raised our voice or tried to put any force in our interaction with Cooper, he would literally get offended and look at us like we physically hurt him which we never did. So it was a careful balance. Now that he is older, it seems like Cooper understands that there are rules in the world and he has to follow some of them. His personality has become much more pliable and he is definitely easier to live with. As you have probably already understood, Cooper can be very stubborn. This is why training is so important, and from a very early age, before your dog gets the idea that they can do whatever they want. The best things about our Labrador are how affectionate and loving he is. He has a kind heart if you can say so about a dog. He definitely has a very defined and strong personality, and our job as owners is to build a good, productive relationship with this personality, which is quite interesting. Cooper is very stable. He is just calm and I have never seen him panic. When he is scared, he can growl a little but nothing more than that. He is very friendly towards people and other dogs which we also love. Overall, Labs are wonderful dogs that I would recommend to almost anyone, provided you do your research and provided you are ready for some complications and issues that will certainly arise. But that can be with literally any breed. While you are reading this post, I just wanted to say you might also like these other articles:.

How much does a Labradoodle cost when adopting a puppy from a professional, ethical breeder? Of course, there are many backyard breeders who have the best intentions in mind and only want to share the joy of this adorable crossbreed. However, oftentimes, these breeders might not conduct all the necessary health and genetic testing on their breeding dogs. Nor can they provide proper health guarantees for their puppies. Additionally, many backyard breeders do not choose new homes for the puppies as carefully as professional breeders. When a litter is born, they just sell all the puppies on a first come first serve basis. How much are Labradoodles when adopting from a backyard breeder? Puppy Mills Finally, we have the worst of the bunch — puppy mills. Unfortunately, these breeders only work for their own financial gain. More often than not, they neglect the wellbeing of their breeding dogs and puppies. Beware of pet stores, as well, as they often source their puppies from puppy mills. Puppy mills usually overbreed their mama dogs and keep them on tight schedules to produce more and more puppies. Meanwhile, the dogs and puppies are kept in unsafe and unclean environments, often in small cages and kennels. Moreover, these pups often come with serious health conditions. How much does a Labradoodle cost when adopting from a puppy mill? Above all, we urge you to avoid these breeders at all costs. As a general rule of thumb, larger, Standard Labradoodles require more calories per day compared to smaller, Mini and Medium Labradoodles. All of them are tried, tested, and recommended by Doodle owners. Training Training and early socialization both play a key role in raising well-rounded Labradoodles. Vet Visits One of the most expensive parts of owning a dog is taking your pup to regular vet visits and wellness checks. And to be prepared for those unexpected vet visits, we recommend you choose a trustworthy pet insurance company. During the first year, you should make sure that your puppy is up to date with all of its vaccinations and preventative care for worms, fleas, ticks , and heartworm. Grooming You might already know that Labradoodles are high-maintenance when it comes to grooming and coat care. Time Investment Like any other pet, Labradoodles require a lot of time and effort from your part. Other Costs In addition to all the Labradoodle costs we mentioned above, there are other everyday items that your dog will need. These include food and water bowls, dog beds, dog crate, a collar and a leash, toys and chew toys, and poop bags. So, you know with absolute certainty that the Labradoodle is the right pup for you. But how can you find quality Labradoodle breeders? As fellow Doodle owners, we know how difficult it can be to find ethical, reputable breeders in your area. Why Are Labradoodles Expensive? Ethical Labradoodle breeders charge higher prices for their pups, as they carefully screen the breeding dogs through extensive health and genetic testing. In addition to that, they provide their clients with genetic health guarantees and implement various forms of enrichment methods when rearing the puppies. How Much Does A Labradoodle Cost: Final Thoughts Adopting a dog is not just a huge emotional commitment, but also requires you to think whether or not your finances allow you to take care of another living being. Hopefully, this article has managed to answer all of your questions about the Labradoodle cost of adoption and the ongoing costs throughout their lifetime. Avoid making the mistake of choosing the wrong Doodle temperament for your family, lifestyle, or current living situation. A close up face image of Labradoodle puppy Max The price depends on many factors and can vary from breeder to breeder. While this might seem like a hefty price to pay for a puppy, the low prices that you find on social media or other ads are usually from puppy mills that try to over-breed these beloved animals in inappropriate and unethical ways. Low-quality living conditions notwithstanding, puppies from such places have a high probability of suffering from ailments and issues caused by genetic mutations occurring from rapid breeding. Labradoodle costs around the world In Australia the average prices for non-shedding Labradoodles ranged from AUD. There were some niche breeders that charged much more. Depending on how unique the coat color is, the price will vary. Parti-colored Labradoodles like Tuxedo Labradoodle or Phantom Labradoodle cost significantly more than a solid-colored cream, black, or gold Labradoodle. Sometimes, depending on your location, you may have to shell out extra dollars if you specifically want a multi-colored Labradoodle. Coat texture is another influencing factor. Shiny, sleek coats are more attractive and an indication of a superior bloodline. Hence, they are going to cost more. Curly and wavy-haired Labradoodles will be more expensive than straight-haired ones as they are almost non-shedding and hypoallergenic. Blue-eyed Labradoodles can be even more expensive, owing to their rarity and beauty. Labradoodle Size As they are crossbred, there are no specific breeding standards for Labradoodles. Most breeders classify Labradoodle puppy sizes as standard, medium, and miniature. Toy, teacup, miniature, and maxi are some other terms used to describe the size of Labradoodle dogs. The smaller the puppy size, the higher its price. This is because of the increased demand for smaller-sized dogs. Some breeders have their own standards and classifications when it comes to dog size and weight. While some breeders consider pound dogs as petite, others see them as miniature. Micro and petit are other terms that are used, both interchangeably and independently by different breeders. Usually, petit dogs fall in the pounds range, and micro dogs under 10 pounds. Age Typically, most people prefer buying a young puppy rather than a full-grown dog. Hence, prices are higher for puppies than dogs. For instance, a 6-month-old puppy is going to cost less than a 6-week-old one. A rich Apricot coat Labradoodle at the groomer. Generation Type Another determining factor is the percentage of each parent breed in the Labradoodle puppy. F1B generations have a purebred Poodle and an F1 generation Labradoodle as their parents. While this is a rarer generation, they are cheaper as their chances of being hypoallergenic is lesser than that of others. Generally, F1B Labradoodles are the most expensive generation as they have the highest chance of being hypoallergenic. Location and Demand The Labradoodle breed is one of the most popular crossbreed dogs, a close second to the Goldendoodles. This has significantly increased their value and demand. Dog breeders of bigger cities will have a large client pool and higher earnings. They usually have a hard time keeping up with the demands and hence have to increase their price. Breeders from rural areas have comparatively lower demand and charge less for their puppies. Nevertheless, the demand for low-shedding, hypoallergenic dogs is high everywhere, regardless of the size and popularity of a place. While it might be cheaper to buy your Labradoodle puppy from a rural breeder, you might still have to beat your budget to travel the extra distance or to have the puppy transferred to you. Although the low prices advertised at puppy mills might be tempting, getting a Labradoodle puppy from a reputed breeder is always a better option. Besides being spayed, neutered, and vaccinated, puppies from reputed breeders will also be appropriately socialized. This will make it easier for them to adapt to their new home. Most reputable breeders establish their prices based on their experience, investment, knowledge, credentials, and reputation with previous customers. Some breeders even incorporate training from a young age, and some puppies are potty trained at just eight weeks old. Reputed breeders also have health certificates and genetic records of both parent dogs in place. These certificates are proof that your Labradoodle is in the best of health and hygiene. Other Costs Associated With Labradoodles The preliminary cost of a Labradoodle will be substantially less than the total expenses involved throughout its life. Additionally, you might have to spend more on training foods and treats. Grooming The grooming needs of Labradoodles may vary depending on the type and length of their coat. Although Labradoodles are almost hypoallergenic, they need regular brushing and bathing. Medical Costs Most crossbreed dogs are usually less prone to ailments and diseases. Their larger gene pool also reduces their risk of inheriting diseases. One of the most common health issues with Labradoodle is hip dysplasia. And the surgical procedure to fix this is expensive, which is especially necessary for older Labradoodles. Besides this, there are other health care costs like vaccinations and regular veterinarian check-ups Ohio State Veterinary School source. It safeguards you against any unforeseen situations that may arise in the future with regard to its health. Training and Boarding Costs Although Labradoodles are very intelligent and highly trainable, it is advisable to enroll them in a professional training program to ensure their all-round development. It also helps address their excessive barking and jumping, which is common in Labradoodles. Labradoodles are high-energy dogs that can turn destructive when left alone for a long time. So whenever you go on trips, you will have to leave them at a doggie care center. Can Labradoodles smile? Ideally, you should purchase an adjustable crate whose length you can adjust as and when your puppy grows. Labradoodles are highly energetic dogs who need toys to maintain their mental stimulation and to keep them from getting destructive due to boredom. You might also have to make a one-time investment on a good quality bed as they often tend to chew and scratch at it. Labradoodle Adoption Price While you may want to get your Labradoodle puppy from a shelter, the chances are slim as Labradoodles are highly sought-after breeds that are usually kept in tight breeding groups. This is usually done to cover the cost of medical and maintenance care. Adopting a puppy from a rescue shelter is a noble idea, but you must also prepare to deal with any possible future problems with their health and temperament, as rescue dogs usually have health and behavior problems. My Miniature Labradoodle Max wearing a stylish rain coat Avoiding Disreputable Breeders The pet business has now emerged as one of the biggest industries worldwide. Unfortunately, this has also birthed unethical puppy mills, backyard breeders, and online pet stores, who have little to no knowledge about raising and nurturing puppies. Often, unsuspecting pet lovers trying to save some money fall prey to these tricks and end up with an unhealthy puppy with health and temperamental issues. This leads to them spending a lot of money on the treatment and maintenance of these puppies down the road. So, is there a way to distinguish between good and bad breeders and avoid paying exorbitant prices by accidentally supporting these puppy mills? Start by doing plenty of research on the breeder and consciously avoid backyard breeders, pet stores, and online stores. Additionally, look out for these red flags: Unusually low-priced puppies. The breeder refuses to show the living conditions of their dogs and puppies. Adult dogs are kept in harsh conditions and small cages. Puppies seem reserved, edgy, and nervous around people. The breeder has no health certificates of puppies and its parent dogs. Breeder refuses to provide any paperwork. Here are some standards and conventions practiced by trustworthy breeders: They breed puppies indoors and will take equal care of the parent dogs. They offer ample space and freedom to their puppies and dogs to run, play, sleep, and do everything they desire. They periodically clean and groom the dogs. They promote a healthy bonding of puppies with their mother and littermates. They try to gauge if you are capable of raising a particular dog breed. They offer tips and tricks on puppy care and maintenance. They have health and vaccination certificates from a licensed veterinarian. They offer proper legal protection like providing a guarantee for puppy replacement after around 1. Going through previous testimonials and customer reviews is another way of determining the credibility of a breeder. Find out how long the breeder has been in the business. Have a proper conversation with them and get all your puppy-related questions answered before you decide to get your puppy from them. With their love and affection, these bundles of joy can not only turn your bad days into wonderful ones, their high intelligence and alert minds also make them great guard dogs. Before purchasing a Labradoodle puppy, make sure to research the breeder and never get puppies from breeders who cannot provide health certificates for the puppies and their parents. My wife and I love playing with our active miniature Labradoodle Max. We want all Oodle puppies to be healthy and happy, have lots of fun and be part of the family. Load More. While this is not actually required, it is highly suggested since it covers vet bills and emergency treatments for injuries. Most of these are optional except for emergency treatments. Owners who need service dogs should be prepared to spend more on special training classes. Dog Walking: Getting a Labradoodle means you get an active dog. For times when you cannot take your dog for a walk or play with them, you can hire a dog walker instead. Medical Emergencies: Expenses for medical emergencies are preferably avoided but are to be prepared for anyway. Accessories and Clothes: If you enjoy dressing up your Labradoodle, you would also want to buy different clothes and accessories for them. There are a lot of places that sell these, so you can either save or splurge. Again, these expenses can arise at specific points in time and can be optional. They also depend on you and how you want to spend on your Labradoodle. You can actually look for this popular breed from breeders or rescue shelters. There are a number of factors which may make people willing to pay more for a Labradoodle. Breeder Good breeders are rarely in it for the money. Even if they sell their puppies for a more money than they spent on them, the profit divided by the number of hours they spent caring the dam and her litter works out in cents! All breeders have their own personal philosophy on pricing pups. They might have a reputation and a waiting list which means they can charge more than the competition. They might also charge highly to deter people from buying their puppies on impulse. Provided you ask politely, a reputable breeder will be happy to explain how they arrived at the cost of their puppies. But a breeder who refuses to discuss how they set their price at all may be attempting to cover up the fact that their puppies have been very poorly raised and are not worth the asking price. Breeding Stock Breeders who invest in meticulous health screening of their sire and dam may pass the cost of that onto their buyers, and they have every right to do so. Puppies from thoroughly health tested parents cost more upfront, but they are likely to cost less in lifetime veterinary fees. Labradoodle puppies from parents with show or field titles may also be advertised at higher prices. The puppies of Labradoodles that have been backcrossed with a purebred Poodle will have a greater chance of inheriting the Poodle coat. Other factors There are other things which might affect Labradoodle costs too. For example, in cities and urban areas, miniature Labradoodles might command higher prices than standard Labradoodles. Some factors have nothing to do with the dog at all. For example, many reputable breeders avoid producing litters around Christmas time to avoid buyers passing them on as gifts to other people, or buying them on impulse without really thinking it through.
