They were originally kept as a farm dog for herding, as a watchdog and as a general companion. Behaviour The Shar Pei is a confident, calm and devoted breed. Early socialization is absolutely crucial and should start when the dog is around 8 weeks of age. They are usually fine with other pets, though can be aggressive towards other dogs at times. Shar Peis bong very quickly with those around them and seem to crave human attention at all times, hence why they make for such a good companion. They get on well with children, but do have their limits and will not tolerate any play that hurts them such as tail pulling. They house train very quickly, usually getting the hang of it at around 8 to 10 weeks old. As can be the case with many older breeds, the Shar Pei can be stubborn at times. They do, however, respond well to fair and compassionate training. They can rebel if shouted at. Letting them meet new dogs is a must to prevent dog aggression, this socialisation should carry on throughout their lives. They were often used as palace guards in the past and as a result they make for good watchdogs, but are very wary of strangers. They only back when something is wrong. Shar Peis absolutely need to be socialized properly, meeting as many new people from a young age to prevent aggression. Within the family they will be devoted and protective. Their coat only requires occasional brushing. Temperament Chinese Shar Peis are stubborn and protective by nature. Consistency is important when training them as puppies in order for them to learn and maintain respect for their owners. Once trained, they will become devoted to their family and can become terriitorial and aggressive towards strangers and other dogs. This makes early socialization vital, as once past puppyhood it may be too late to train them. Health Problems In terms of health, the Shar Pei has one significant weakness, their skin. The skin is loose and because of this is much more prone to infection, particularly under the creases, so be sure to wash the folds of their skin at least once a week. Entropion and Familial Shar Pei Fever can sometimes be seen in this breed, but both are treatable. Other problems that may affect canine hip dysplasia CHD , ear problems, allergies and patellar luxation dislocation of the knee cap. Health and breeding information What diseases can occur in a Box-a-Shar? These mixed breeds are brave, stubborn, intelligent and loyal, which makes them excellent family dogs. Unfortunately, they can also suffer from various diseases, so it is important to be aware of any potential risks. One of the most common health problems with this hybrid breed is respiratory distress syndrome. This is a condition in which breathing becomes obstructed, which can have serious consequences. Symptoms include severe emaciation, shortness of breath, coughing, seizures and a general malaise. Treatment can be difficult, but usually there is a good prognosis with proper care. Other possible conditions in this breed include skin allergies, atopy and heart disease. Atopy is an allergic reaction to certain allergens in the environment and usually requires lifelong treatment. Allergic skin conditions such as dermatitis and eczema can be recurrent and cause severe itching. Heart disease can lead to serious complications that can go untreated and even be fatal. It is important that owners of Boxer Shar-Pei mixes have their puppy examined regularly for findings. Finding potential problems early can help manage them effectively. Additionally, it is important that dog owners follow their veterinarian's vaccination recommendations to prevent potential diseases. With proper care and vaccinations, owners can provide their dog with a happy and healthy life. What does this mongrel look like? Sometimes they also have brown spots that resemble tiger stripes. The coat is tough and it is resistant to different weather conditions. They have a prominent lion's mane around their face and a shaggy coat on their tail. What are breed characteristics of this mix dog? His body is square and muscular, with short smooth coat, short tail and a few loose folds of skin around the shoulders and middle of the back. His color ranges from deep red to light brown with white markings in various places. Fur length. To make this calculation easier, all dog foods produced and sold in the United States have a feeding guide on the packaging that will allow you to see just how much food your dog needs. You will also find that most premium brands offer a variety of age-specific products that will ensure that your pet gets the right balance of vitamins and minerals that they need to live a happy and healthy life. Typically, a nice long walk around the neighborhood or a run in the park is enough for them. If you are extremely active, your Box-a-Shar will quite happily exercise with you. Of course, you should remember that just as exercise is important for good human health, it is also an important part of keeping your dog fit and healthy, which means that a dog that exercises more frequently is likely to stay healthy longer than one who gets less regular exercise. Also, these dogs can occasionally become a little stubborn, and as frustrating as that is, the best way to move past this may be to change up what it is you are doing and try to turn the activity into a game for your dog. Ideally, you should brush them at least once or twice a week to remove any loose hair from their coat. When it comes to bathing, it is best to limit their baths to when they need it. Box-a-Shars should also have their teeth brushed once or twice a week with a canine toothpaste, their ears checked for obstructions regularly, and their nails clipped every other month to prevent them from growing too long and breaking. With hybrid breeds, it is difficult to say with any certainty whether conditions that typically affect one of their parent breeds will be passed on to your puppy, but unless you have veterinary advice to the contrary, it is always best to assume that they can. Careful and selective breeding practices can reduce the impact of many hereditary health problems. For this reason, you should always purchase a puppy from a reputable breeder. The conditions to which the Box-a-Shar is susceptible include: Minor Conditions. This complete guide tells you everything you need to know about Boxpei ownership so that you can decide whether or not this adorable breed is right for your home. Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. More social dogs have a tendency to run up to strangers for pets and scratches, while less social dogs shy away and are more cautious, even potentially aggressive. Even though Shar Peis and Boxers alone are really popular dogs, this mix is not. Because of the rarity of this breed, finding a Boxpei puppy can be a bit challenging. There is almost no chance that you will be able to find this attractive breed in a local shelter, especially if it is a puppy. Occasionally, you can find an adult Boxpei at the local shelter, but even that is not a given. In addition to paying for the puppy, you will have to pay other puppy prices, such as getting the dog vaccinated, licensed, and comfy in your new home. They are incredibly loving and loyal, even to other animals and children. At the same time, they are moderately intelligent and want to please. Together, these factors make Boxpeis one of the more loving and easier to train dogs. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They are patient, gentle with children, and like rough playing with older members of the family. These facts make Boxpeis a great addition to any family, whether the family includes adults, children, or teenagers. With that being said, socialization is really important for any dog. If you socialize the Boxpei early, it will be more likely to get along with every member of the family. Even though Boxpeis tend to be a very gentle breed, that does not mean that an individual dog will not act aggressively to a child that is pestering it. At the same time, make sure that you teach your child how to play with dogs respectfully and appropriately. In addition to being great family dogs, Boxpeis tend to be really great with other animals as well. When it comes to other dogs, they are much more friendly than other breeds of its size. For best results, get puppies at the same time so that the two dogs grow up together. For cats and other small animals, the Boxpei is likely to get along with them too. Many Boxpei owners claim that their cats love to curl up and snooze with their dog. Once again, socialization with cats and other animals is an important step to ensuring your Boxpei gets along with them. This is true in terms of exercise, training, and grooming, though they do eat a lot. These facts make it a great dog for people who want a low maintenance breed or who have never trained a big dog before. Because of their large size, you need to fuel them with the right amount and type of food. Make sure to always provide your Boxpei a lot of water. Taking your Boxpei on a walk once a day will be enough to keep it happy and healthy. At the same time, your Boxpei will be more than happy to be active with you if you are an active person. With working roots, these dogs can keep up, even though they tend to be a bit lazy by choice. This makes them a great breed for both active and moderately active families alike. These dogs are very eager to please their owners and are moderately intelligent, resulting in an easy training experience. Focusing on encouragement and praise goes a long way with these dogs. On the other hand, negative reinforcement does not work very well with Boxpeis. Because they want to please their owners so much, negative reinforcement often causes them to withdrawal from the task. Remember to be patient with your Boxpei and use as little negative reinforcement as possible. Brush their coat once or twice a week to keep it healthy and minimize shedding around your home. Only give your Boxpei a bath when they need it and use a dog approved shampoo. One thing you have to be careful about when it comes to Boxpeis is their dental help. Also, clean out their ears as necessary, and clip nails every other month. However, to unhealthy parents will often result in an unhealthy puppy. Height: 18 - 20 inches at the shoulder Weight: 40 - 65 lb. Lifespan: 9 - 11 years Boxer Shar Pei Mix - Boxpei Personality Like all hybrids, you have to look to the parents to get a good read on how they will likely behave. She responds well to positive reinforcement, like all dogs. She should be rather affectionate and enjoy spending lots of time with you. However, the one positive thing about getting a puppy is that you can avoid this as much as possible. A breeder should absolutely offer a health guarantee on puppies. A reputable breeder will be honest and open about health problems in the breed and the incidence with which they occur. Health clearances prove that a dog has been tested for and cleared of a particular condition. So make sure to praise her when she does well. She is an intelligent dog who loves to please, and loves a physical challenge. The more exercise she gets the easier she will be to train. Proper socialization is imperative to all dogs and puppies. Make sure to take her to the park and doggy day care to get her around as many people and dogs as possible. Each one is unique and has different dietary requirements. Most dogs in the U. A mix like this one that is prone to hip and elbow dysplasia should really be on fish oil and glucosamine and chondroitin supplements as soon as possible. At 15, when I produced my first litter, I started dreaming big — but not so big that I ever expected to see my pups leashed to celebrities in Hollywood magazines! I provide lifetime support to my clients, and my contract stipulates that any dog I breed is returned to me if for any reason an owner cannot keep it. This involves close observation of the puppy, temperament testing at 7 weeks using the Volhard puppy aptitude test, and careful scrutiny of detailed applications from clients. Since introducing this process, client satisfaction has soared. I developed a new hybrid in called the Bernedoodle. Now their popularity is growing around the world. I developed a new hybrid in called the Golden Mountain Doodle. SwissRidge has become the kennel of choice for Goldendoodles and Bernedoodles. When someone proposed crossing the Bernese and the Poodle, I gave it a try — with fantastic results! When people started asking for older puppies with some training, we launched the imprinting program. Listening to my clients has always served me well. As a result, I will expand our training, boarding, and other specialized services in the near future. I started a charity called SwissRidge Dogs for Kids, where I donate pups to children in need and raise money through various events and item sales to help train the dogs donated to these children. I hold an annual SwissRidge Doodle Romp, where my clients come from far and wide with their dogs to reunite. I developed a new hybrid in called the SwissRidge Doodle. Contact us The cross between our beautiful registered purebred Bernese Mountain Dog females and registered purebred Poodle males is amazing! We get the best of both breeds. The Bernese Mountain Dog is an easy going, intelligent, affectionate and loyal breed. However, a Bernese generally has a short life span and is prone to several health issues including cancer, heart disease, dysplasia, and epilepsy. This causes many purebred Bernese owners to look for a solution which is a hybrid breed. The Poodle is known as a highly intelligent breed. They are easily trained with an amazing personality; they are very playful and love to clown around! When bred with a Poodle, the result is a Bernedoodle. The hybrid results in puppies that are healthier than their parents. Therefore, they have a longer life expectancy. The combination of the Bernese and the Poodle is then an easy going dog, gentle with children and elderly, but there is also a wonderful sense of vibrancy. Coat types range from wavy to curly. The curlier the coat, the less your dog will shed. Even if the coat is wavy, it will still be classed as low shedding, especially in comparison to a purebred Bernese. To keep this beautiful coat we recommend your Bernedoodle sees a groomer times a year. They are also health tested by certified veterinarians and declared suitable for breeding. One or both of this puppy's parents are hip certified. One or both of this puppy's parents is OFA Heart certified. This puppy has had early neurological stimulation exercises. It is also important to understand there are different types of golden retrievers which may affect pricing. For example, if you decide to choose the lowest golden retriever cost option, those puppies almost never have the necessary 3rd-party assurances or veterinarian procedures like dewormings, vaccinations, health-tested parents, or a thorough health checkup. These missing costs and services will be your responsibility, making the total cost ultimately the same. Not to mention the added stress on you these extra expenses and issues create! Adopting vs. Please note that depending on the shelter, you may have to pay additional costs for your Golden certain shots and procedures. Depending on if the golden retriever is a boy or a girl may affect the price as well. Some male vs female golden retriever differences may make you prefer one over the other. This will ultimately save you time and money on your golden retriever price because breeders often pay lower veterinary rates than individuals do. Distemper, for example, is a highly contagious disease that attacks the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and nervous systems of dogs. Unfortunately, there is no cure — just a lot of expenses and stress which really adds to the overall cost of your Golden Retriever puppy. It is wise to ask your vet for guidance on this decision. Talk with your vet about the procedure, when you should get it done, and how much it might cost. Dental Care for Your Golden Retriever Golden Retrievers, like many dogs, can be prone to dental issues such as plaque buildup, gum disease, and tooth decay. These cleanings typically involve scaling, polishing, and potentially extractions if necessary. Some insurance providers offer optional dental coverage as an add-on or as part of more comprehensive plans. If dental coverage is included in the policy, it typically covers a portion of the costs associated with dental cleanings, extractions, and other necessary dental treatments. This typically includes services such as bathing, brushing, trimming, nail clipping, ear cleaning, and sometimes additional services like de-shedding or dematting. Some groomers may offer package deals or discounts for regular appointments or bundled services. This monthly expense may seem like an additional cost, but it can be a worthwhile investment when considering the potential savings on veterinary bills for treatments, surgeries, and medications. By having pet insurance in place, you can ensure that your Golden Retriever receives the necessary care without straining your finances in the event of unexpected health issues. Puppy Training and Socialization Classes Attending puppy training and socialization classes is highly recommended for the comprehensive development of your Golden puppy. These classes provide structured learning environments, social interaction, and essential obedience training. By enrolling your Golden Retriever puppy in these classes, you ensure they receive the necessary foundation for good behavior, social skills, and overall well-being. The cost for food will depend on the size, age, and activity level of your companion. Fortunately, the cheaper brands of dog food can be just as good as the more premium brands as long as they meet the standards of AAFCO and are made with minimal processing. When making your decision, make sure to avoid artificial ingredients and preservatives where you can, since they could cause health problems for your dog. Read the full disclosure here. He was a keen waterfowl hunter but he also wanted a dog that could be loyal, friendly, and even-tempered while at home. All this happened between to .Tweedmouth kept a breeding record that now shows what he was trying to achieve — a hunting dog that also had the traits of a family pet. Even though now extinct, Tweed water spaniels were ardent retrievers and in the home they were friendly, loyal, and calm. In the following years, the AKC changed the Golden Retriever breeding standards to suit the tastes and needs of Americans. Right now, goldens are a popular breed in the US, rivaling Labradors, German shepherds, and French bulldogs. How To Identify A Full Breed Golden Retriever Top on the list of ways to identify a pure golden retriever is to check whether it has the right paperwork and pedigree. Proper documentation is proof that the dog has been registered with a well-recognized kennel club or certified registry that keeps records for that specific breed. The Golden Retriever has been an AKC-recognized breed since and was commonly used as a gun dog and for retrieving small game such as waterfowl, and for companionship. The Golden Retriever originated in the Scottish Highlands. The first Lord Tweedmouth, Dudley Majoribanks, is credited with developing the breed and keeping detailed records to create the ideal gun dog for the terrain. Great discipline and a gentle spirit make the Golden Retriever a perfect retrieval breed since the goal of this task is to bring the trophy back as undamaged as possible. Golden Retrievers first appeared in dog shows in at a British dog show. They also started appearing in the United States around the same time as they were brought across the Canadian border. They gained popularity with sport hunters and in general. Their popularity really took off in the s and they are consistently one of the most popular dog breeds. If you are not the sporting type, bringing a Golden Retriever into your family as a pet is just as rewarding because they are one of the most loyal and jovial breeds out there. One of the facts about Golden Retrievers is that they are the epitome of friendly and make fantastic family dogs. Golden Retrievers are considered one of the friendliest dog breeds. They tend to be good with kids, other dogs, other pets, and even strangers. Goldens love attention and they bond closely with their families. They are affectionate with them, and also just about everyone else. Although they do tend to get along with everyone, they love being around their favorite humans the most. They will bark to alert you and can end up barking a lot if you do not train your dog to stop barking early on. Golden Retrievers are highly adaptable dogs. They thrive in homes with yards where they can run. They can also adapt to apartment living as long as they get enough daily exercise, mental stimulation, and attention. These dogs do well in just about any climate, but are sensitive to heat. As one of the most affectionate dog breeds , they are not at all happy about being left alone for long periods of time. Although super-friendly and attention-loving, Goldens can also be sensitive to their surroundings; make sure they feel included, but have a quiet place to go if things get too noisy or overwhelming. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Golden Retriever include progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts, elbow dysplasia , and hip dysplasia. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Goldens are considered one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners. They are highly trainable dogs that pick up on things quickly and are eager to please. These traits make them a good fit for owners of all experience levels. It also helps them excel at obedience competitions. As one of the smartest dog breeds , Golden Retrievers can get bored easily. Because they pick up things quickly, they can get bored with too much repetition in training. If your dog has mastered the command, move on to something more advanced or another activity. You can also enroll in puppy training classes for some variety in training and also some socialization. Golden Retrievers have a long double coat that will shed a little year-round and will be heavier twice a year as the seasons change. Brushing a few times a week and daily brushing during seasonal shedding along with a bath as needed is usually enough for at-home care. You will want to go to the dog groomer for a professional trim a few times a year, especially as the seasons change. Nail trims once or twice monthly keep nails from growing too long. Daily tooth brushing, along with cleanings at the vet when needed, is ideal. Golden Retrievers are one of the most active dog breeds. Daily walks plus some playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough to keep these dogs happy and healthy. But, they are high-energy dogs that will likely always be up for more activity if you are. Much like the Labrador , they also tend to have an extended puppyhood. They tend to start winding down a little around the age of 3 and settle into your lifestyle, but they will still be high-energy dogs that require a lot of daily activity. Goldens are known for being versatile and athletic dogs. They tend to love swimming. Once they are done growing and the vet clears them for higher-impact activities, you can try other things too. They are one of the dog breeds that make good running partners. You can also teach them how to play frisbee or play fetch. Training for dog sports is another good option. In addition to obedience, Golden Retrievers are well suited for agility, dock diving , rally, flyball, tracking, and more. Fully-grown Golden Retrievers usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Golden Retrievers generally live for years on average. With their intelligence, eagerness to please, and gentle disposition, Golden Retrievers are versatile working dogs. In addition to being one of the dog breeds that make the best service dogs , Goldens can be found working as emotional support dogs, certified therapy dogs, search and rescue dogs, military dogs, police dogs, animal actors, and more. I was sure she was just lost but after networking everywhere, realized she was probably dumped because we discovered right away that she was severely incontinent. Never claimed, I never gave her a real name, she remained Baby Girl and now answers to B. She is currently on Incurin and Proin is doing well with it, but will at times lose a few drops if she barks too much but overall, I'd consider her totally continent now. To my knowledge, B has never been around cats or small children. She is extremely jealous of my senior female who is somewhat disabled with bad arthritis in her hips. I would definitely keep her if it weren't for my senior girl nearly 12 years old but of course there's no way of knowing how long the old girl will be with me. One on one with me, B is the best dog anyone could hope for. She's extremely intelligent, understands everything, listens well, follows the commands of paw, off, come, drop it, a little iffy with leave it and stay, and follows the sit and down commands with non-verbal arm motion. If I tell her to lay down, she will lay down and roll to her back. She loves toys, playing fetch, cuddling, car rides, treats we call them cookies. She sleeps in an XL Kong crate that can go with her to a new home. B is estimated now at about 3 years, about 60lbs, spayed, microchipped, next vaccination boosters due in July. This high energy comes from their original purpose as sheep herding dogs, bred in Germany in by Max von Stephanitz. Stephanitz thought German Shepherds were everything a dog should be; intelligent, loyal, hard-working and beautiful. While no longer sheep herders, German Shepherds maintain high energy levels and muscle mass. Because of this, they are often used in police forces worldwide or as guard dogs. This breed requires proper nutrition, including protein, fats, and carbohydrates from healthy sources to maintain their health. Dog Nutrition for German Shepherds As large, active dogs, German Shepherds require lots of protein and carbohydrates to build muscle and maintain energy levels. For example, wild caught salmon dog food can provide all the protein your German Shepherd needs to maintain muscle mass. While many people give their dogs high-fat treats, other foods, such as cooked dog food , can provide the high-quality fats necessary to keep your German Shepherd healthy. These are easy to digest and provide the energy your dog needs to be playful throughout the day. Avoid foods with corn, wheat or soy as they are harder to digest and offer less nutritional value. German Shepherds suffer from various health risks, such as osteoarthritis and digestive problems. Like other dogs, they can also have an allergy to proteins , such as chicken. Try switching to healthy wet dog food if you typically use dry food. Best Food for German Shepherds with Allergies For German Shepherds with allergies, check the ingredients of all foods and treats before you buy them. Since their humble beginnings, they have taken on the task of placing Labs as family companions into forever homes. The puppies are raised among the family, making them ideal for family roles, show dogs, and even for work. These dogs possess a strong champion lineage and all puppies come with applicable health checks before placement. This family has a very personal connection with this breed, falling in love initially with a rescue Lab and then choosing to continue the breed after her passing. Also, they specifically breed the English-style Labradors rather than American. These pups are bred for show, field, and companionship. They provide American Kennel Club Labradors from strong bloodlines that come with paperwork, health certificates, and the first few weeks of housebreaking done before you even bring yours home! Plus, they show lots of interactive photos and videos so you can get to know the dogs and pups. If you have any questions, there is a list of contact information on the site. Simply email the breeder for further instruction on how to bring one of these cuties home. This breeder has only English-style Labs, which are the blockier variation of the two. This breeder sells puppies with a limited AKC registration, meaning they can be fully registered but come without breeding rights. If you want breeding rights, you must go through the process of approval beforehand. The primary focus of this breeding is to create the highest quality gun dogs around, so these pups are bred for work. This breeder has yellow, chocolate, and black labs for placement. Striving for excellent quality with emphasis on temperament, conformation, intelligence and all around health. Our dogs come from top pedigree, filled with champion lines. Our goal is to produce calm, intelligent "English" Labradors who will provide wonderful companions to you and your family. We are a small kennel, located outside of Alliance, Ohio and believe in producing the utmost quality in our pups. Therefore, we are able to make sure all of our breeding stock and pups receive lots of attention and care. We believe that Labs are at their best when they are in the companionship of people, and where they have freedom to run and play. We take great pride in the quality of the pups we produce emphasizing temperament, conformation and all around health. Our dogs have great pedigrees, filled with champions, from traditional English lines. Our pups are in homes throughout the United States and have proven to be accomplished service dogs, therapy dogs, hunters and companions to many families. You can see many, many years of our dogs, growing from pups to seniors, as well as testimonials from puppy families, on our Facebook page at Maple Creek Labradors. Our Labradors are the 'English' type, meaning they have a square or 'blocky' head, a well muscled body and thick bone. Their soft, kind expression make them instantly lovable. They are not separate color genes. We do not breed dilutes, nor do we support them.

Any puppies that qualify as a German Shepherd Mix are a cross between a German Shepherd and another dog breed. In a mixed breed, you can get any mix of characteristics in the parent breeds. German Shepherds tend to be strong-willed, intelligent, playful, and loyal. To get a full idea of what to expect in your puppy, be sure to ask the breeder about the other dog breed in the cross and check out the mother dog in-person to get a general idea about size and temperament. On the German Shepherd side, you have an independent dog with high intelligence and a playful spirit. German Shepherds make great family pets and are born protectors. Because of their protective instinct, they can be suspicious of strangers. Socialization early and often can help curb this suspicion and make them more open to new people and situations. German Shepherds also tend to be loving and have a lively personality. The German Shepherd Mix can have any or all of these characteristics plus any characteristics from the other parent breed in the mix. Before buying a German Shepherd Mix puppy and bringing them home, be sure to talk to the breeder about the other parent breed. If the puppies are being family-raised around children, you should be able to get an idea of how they will do in a family setting that includes children. The German Shepherd is a moderately adaptable working dog that was bred to guard, work, and herd. They do not tend to do well in apartments and are best-suited for houses with yards. GSDs prefer to be with their families and do not like to be alone. They also tend to prefer cooler climates as they are sensitive to heat. With a German Shepherd Mix, you could get a moderately adaptable dog that is just like a purebred German Shepherd. You could also end up with a dog that is more like the other parent breed. Talking with the breeder about the other parent breed can give you a good idea of what to expect. German Shepherds can be prone to elbow and hip dysplasia. You will need to ask the breeder about the other parent breed in the cross to get an idea of any other health concerns to be aware of in your German Shepherd Mix. Health screenings, clearances, and the genetic history of the parents can help allay concerns about potential health conditions. On the German Shepherd side, training and obedience classes are highly recommended for novice dog owners. Although GSDs are highly intelligent, pick up on things quickly, and train fairly easily, they can be stubborn with an independent streak. Regardless of the other parent breed in the cross, you should be prepared to enroll in obedience and training classes with your German Shepherd Mix. The experience will be beneficial to both you and your puppy and will also offer some opportunities for socialization. You will still want to ask the breeder about the other parent breed in the cross to get an understanding of what to expect during the training process. Professional grooming a few times a year and the occasional bath is also recommended. Regardless of the coat type, your German Shepherd Mix will need to have their nails trimmed monthly and their teeth brushed regularly. Not every dog will allow you to do this, so try to get a tooth brushing session in at least a few times a week to reduce tartar buildup. This will help prevent dental problems like tooth decay and gum disease. Plus, it will help cut down on bad breath! German Shepherds tend to have a high activity level. They were bred to run, herd, guard, and protect, so they are used to working and having a job to do. They are definitely not a lazy dog breed! Be sure to talk to the breeder about the other parent breed in the mix. You will still want to go in prepared for a high energy dog with the understanding that your German Shepherd Mix puppy may have an activity level closer to the other breed in the cross. If both are high energy dogs breeds, expect to end up with a high energy dog. A German Shepherd is a large dog breed that generally weighs between 55 and 90 pounds. They also usually stand between 22 and 26 inches tall at the shoulders. The other dog breed in the cross could result in a smaller or larger German Shepherd Mix. A German Shepherd generally lives for years. You should be able to expect a similar range in your German Shepherd Mix, but the other dog breed in the cross could affect this range. No Why is the Pug so expensive? Pugs are often considered expensive due to a combination of factors, including their popularity, demand, and the costs associated with breeding and raising them. Here are some reasons why pugs may have a higher price tag: Breeding challenges: Pugs have a unique physical structure with a short snout, which can lead to health issues. Breeding pugs requires careful selection to minimize these problems, which can increase the cost of obtaining healthy and well-bred puppies. Health concerns: Pugs are prone to several health conditions, such as respiratory problems, eye issues, and skin allergies. Responsible breeders undertake health testing and provide necessary veterinary care, which contributes to the overall cost. Limited availability: While Pugs are a popular breed, finding a reputable breeder can be challenging. Responsible breeders may have a limited number of litters each year, which increases demand and drives up prices. Popularity: Pugs have gained significant popularity over the years due to their charming appearance and friendly temperament. Increased demand for Pugs can drive prices up, as breeders can charge more when there is high demand for a particular breed. Breeding expenses: Responsible breeders invest a considerable amount of time, effort, and money into breeding and raising their puppies. This includes expenses such as health checks, vaccinations, proper nutrition, and socialization. These costs are passed on to potential buyers. So just be ready for more than the price of a puppy — unexpected vet bills, food , treats, toys, etc. This is pretty much the same price as a Pug from any reputable breeder, as you would expect to get a purebred Pug from a reputable breeder. What is the cheapest price of a Pug puppy? Adopting is also a great way to provide a home to a pet in need while also saving yourself some money in the process. What is the price of a Male Pug Puppy? However, prices are high for those with superior lineages and pure breeds. How Much Is a Pug in the Philippines? In the Philippines, different Pug breeders from different parts of the country have varying prices. However, the average price is slightly consistent compared to in the US. Below are some of the Pug prices and descriptions. A purebred 1. A purely black female Pug without papers aged between 6- and months costs PHP8, Plus, you can also negotiate the price with some breeders. In California, the cost of Pugs constantly fluctuates due to market demands. The cost of a typical puppy Pug in India lies between 5,Rs and 20,Rs. However, the average price ranges from 10,Rs and 12,Rs. Keep in mind that these prices also fluctuate from time to time. Posted on. Few people can resist the goofy smile of a Pug. However, the market price of a Pug will vary greatly based on a few important factors, such as the blood line, breeder reputation, location, and coat color. However, compared to other dog breeds, Pugs are not very cheap. Though you can certainly find one for much less, the average cost of a healthy Pug from a good breeder is not something to scoff at. There are plenty of factors that can determine how much a Pug will cost you. For instance, location, breeder reputation, pedigree and colors can all play a factor in Pug price. Location Unfortunately, the price of a Pug can vary depending on where you are. In some countries such as the UK , these dogs will likely cost a lot more. And even in the same country, the price will vary by location state, city, region, etc. If you must pick up a Pug in a certain region, then there is very little you can do. Driving for more than 10 hours one way may require an overnight stay. Pedigree and Lineage The pedigree or bloodline of a Pug will matter in regards to price. In fact, this may be the most important factor for price variation seen in all dog breeds, including Pugs. According to Business Insider , the prices of pedigree dogs such as Pugs are climbing to an all-time high. So what exactly is a pedigree dog? These dogs have at least 3 generations without any crossbreeding. Anything less is technically not a pedigree dog. However, there has been concern and controversy over the overbreeding of pedigree dogs. These dogs are bred over and over again using dogs from the same family. Inbreeding can lead to a lower life expectancy in Pugs, as well as potential degenerative diseases and mutations. Rather, the opposite is likely to happen. Pugs with a superior lineage will cost much more than a Pug without. And when I say superior lineage, I really mean champion lineage. Champion dogs are those that win an event at an AKC event. Sometimes, these dogs can command a hefty premium if they have an impressive long list of ancestors. Another great reason to go with AKC registered Pugs is that you can confirm the lineage of the pup. Reputable Pug Breeder There are two types of breeders you can purchase a Pug from: reputable and non-reputable breeders. I always highly recommend finding a reputable breeder. However, just like in every industry, reputation comes with a premium price. By reputable breeders, I really mean responsible breeders. The American Kennel Club inspects thousands of kennels each year and provide certification to those that breed responsibly. But because these breeders are recognized and recommended by the AKC, their puppies do come with a premium. These colors are fawn and black. Selling different colored dogs for different prices is frowned upon. However, even reputable breeders do this. Unfortunately, this is a classic example of supply and demand. In addition, expect the apricot, silver and apricot fawn colors also see a markup in prices. Less common dogs cost more. Personally, I think the classic fawn Pug with a black mask is the most attractive. No matter what color, all Pugs will be loving dogs and companions. To sum things up, the key is to shop around. There are so many great adoption websites with plenty of Pugs that need a new home. The first site I highly recommend is Adopt-a-Pet. With just a quick check, I already see plenty of Pugs on that marketplace! Another fantastic website is PetFinder. Have a check for yourself! Visit Your Local Animal Shelters Adopting a Pug from an animal shelter is always the best, that is, if you can find one. Do a simple Google search for shelters near you and check Yelp too! When doing your research, check to see if they have a website. It might be a good idea to check that before driving all the way there. It really depends on the shelter, but adoption fees can vary a lot. Are Pugs Worth the Price? But are they really worth the cost? Pugs are some of the most entertaining dogs you can find. My pug is definitely a handful but being able to come back from work to see her silly face every day is well worth the time and money spent. Pug Owner So, yes — Pugs are definitely worth the price! Some claim that these super pedigree Pugs are more intelligent. The truth is, all Pugs are intelligent in their own way. They may not be the most obedient dog breeds, but they show high instinctive and adaptive intelligence. How much did your Pug cost? Let us know in the comments section below! Posts you may like:. A few toys should do the trick, but make sure to provide them with at least a few puzzle toys to get their brains working. Pugs thrive on attention and most are happy with an hour or so of playtime in the yard, two walks per day, and an occasional trip to the park to socialize with other dogs. Training your Pug beyond basic obedience training is a great way to bond with them and provide mental stimulation. Pugs are eager to please and attentive to their owners, so teaching them tricks or training them in agility are excellent ways to occupy their minds and enhance your relationship. Pugs only eat about pounds of food per year and are mostly healthy, although setting aside extra cash to deal with emergencies is a good idea. Its coat is fine, smooth and short. The Pug breed is often described by the Latin phrase multum in parvo, or "much in little" or "a lot of dog in a small space", alluding to the Pug's remarkable and charming personality, despite its small size. Pugs are strong willed but rarely aggressive, and are suitable for families with children. The majority of the breed is very fond of children and sturdy enough to properly play with them. Depending on their owner's mood, they can be quiet and docile but also vivacious and teasing. Pugs tend to be intuitive and sensitive to the moods of their owners and are usually eager to please them. Pugs tend to have a somewhat lazy nature and spend a lot of time napping. They have been well known in Europe since at least the 16th Century. After gaining favor with Royalty, the breed became very popular and even more well known. The AKC recognized the Pug in .Pin it to remember the Price of Pugs Why are Pugs so expensive? So just why are Pugs so expensive? One reason is because Pugs, like most other Brachycephalic dogs with flat faces and large heads , are most often born via cesarean section. Pugs are also susceptible to numerous orthopedic and hereditary diseases—so reputable breeders will conduct testing on both parents to help ensure a healthy litter. This test screens for Hip Dysplasia and Patellar Luxation. Breeders also have the option to test for Elbow Dysplasia with this screening. This important test screens for Necrotizing meningoencephalitis NME , a fatal brain disorder that can kill Pug puppies. This metabolic disease breaks down the red blood cells of a young Pug. The price will depend on several factors: The location of the breeder. The rules of supply and demand pertain to dogs as well so larger metropolitan areas are often more expensive. The pedigree of the parent Pugs. Pugs that have participated in sanctioned competitions have more expensive litters. Whether the Pug is a show quality dog or a pet quality dog. Show quality puppies with a future in competitive dog shows and breeding are more expensive. The age of the Pug. Puppies are definitely more expensive; you may occasionally find a breeder selling a retired breeding Pug or a Pug that originated at the breeder but has been returned. The color of the Pug. AKC recognized two colors : black and fawn. The Canadian Kennel Club recognizes fawn, silver fawn and black. The Federation Cynologique Internationale and the Kennel Club of the UK both recognize silver sometimes called silver-fawn , apricot often called apricot-fawn , fawn and black. The less common the color, the more expensive the dog. Attend a sanctioned dog show and talk with Pug breeders and competitors for recommendations. Ask your veterinarian for recommendations regarding reputable breeders. Do an online search for complaints. Check the Facebook page of the breeder and read through comments. Remember, however, comments can be deleted by the page owner. When you find a breeder and want to determine if they are reputable: Ask for references. The breeder should be happy to share the name and contact information for customers. Ask questions. Lots of questions. The breeder should be glad to share the test results from the health tests and screenings. Ask how often the dogs are bred. Ask to tour the kennels. Are they well maintained? Do the dogs look healthy? Beware of operations that will not let you tour the kennels and breeders that want to meet you in a parking lot to hand over the puppy. Be prepared for questions. The breeder should ask YOU questions as well; be suspicious if the breeder has no questions about your past history with pets, your living situation, etc. Ask if the breeder will take the Pug back if necessary. Ask for a contract. If medical problems are diagnosed, the breeder should readily take the pup back and provide a full refund. Pug breeders may adopt out of the area but, nonetheless, you will want to go to the breeder to meet the parents, view the kennels and bring home your puppy in person. This will add to your expenses—but breeders that transport a puppy by air are putting the dog at risk. If you want to buy a Pug online, please think again. There are numerous scams; people spend thousands of dollars for a dog and never receive a puppy. AKC warns potential pet parents to be wary of any seller asking for payment by Venmo, in gift cards or as a wire transfer. Dogs purchased from puppy mills can mean years of heartache and expensive veterinary care. The pros of purchasing from a Pug breeder: You may be able to select a puppy—including a choice of color and gender. A reputable breeder will be passionate about Pugs and will a resource for years to come. The cons of purchasing from a Pug breeder You will pay more for a Pug from a breeder than a rescue or shelter. If you find a breeder who has Pug puppies for sale at prices far lower than you are seeing from other breeders, you must suspect you are dealing with a backyard breeder who has not done health screening, with an online seller who is operating a puppy mill or is running a scam. You will need to wait until puppies are available. You will need to do your own due diligence to select a reputable breeder. Pugs in rescues are far less expensive that those at a breeder. Pugs under a year old will be the most costly. The dogs that are up for adoption at Pug rescues may be there for a variety of reasons: Death of an owner. Lost Pugs that the rescue had seen on shelter websites. Pugs a breeder no longer wanted. Whatever the reason, the Pugs in rescue may or may not come with papers, depending on whether or not the dog was surrendered with papers. You may also find Pug rescues at pet expos and special events in your area. Rescues will often have a booth with information on the rescue and a few adoptable dogs. Most dogs at purebred rescues are pulled from shelters, often open-intake shelters that may not be no-kill shelters. You will be able to adopt a Pug for far less money than purchasing a Pug from a breeder. You will be able to talk with people who are passionate about Pugs about the individual Pug you are interested in adopting. Our most recent search brought up a healthy, 7-month-old Pug puppy so you never know. Your dog may or may not be a purebred Pug and may or may not have papers. The least expensive option when it comes to Pug prices is the shelter, either a municipal shelter or a privately-operated shelter. Are you a senior? A member of the military or law enforcement? Many shelters offer special discounts. To locate a Pug at a shelter, call your local shelter or start your search online. Click on the link of adoptable Pugs in the top left corner; you can then enter your zip code to see Pugs near you. The listings will include both rescues and shelters. Unlike adopting from a Pug rescue, dogs at a shelter will generally be housed at the shelter although an increasing number utilize foster homes whenever they can, especially for puppies. If the dog is housed at the shelter, you may not know a lot about his or her personality. Talk with the shelter staff and ask if the dog has been temperament tested and if they can tell you if the dog is skittish, shy, outgoing, has any prior training, etc. And while you may see dogs listed as a Pug at a shelter, that may or may not mean they are Pugs, purebred or mixed. Shelters use their best judgement, often while intaking many dogs, so sometimes the accuracy of the breed is questionable. Since Pugs do have such a distinctive look, however, you can use your judgement to see if the dog displays usual Pug characteristics and markings. Ask the shelter if they have any background on the dogs; you may be surprised to find a puppy whose purebred mother came in as a pregnant lost dog and gave birth at the shelter. It definitely happens. The Pros of Adopting a Pug from a Shelter You are saving a life, not only of the dog you adopt but of the next dog who will be rescued due to the kennel that is now clear. Your new dog will have received a long list of veterinary services. You will have the love of a dog whose price was far less than that of a dog from a breeder. You may not know the history of the dog. FAQ What is the cheapest price for a Pug? If you find low-cost purebred Pugs listed online, please consider that you may be supporting a puppy mill. What is the Teacup Pug price? These dogs are the result of breeding the smallest runt dog of one litter to the smallest dog of another litter, producing smaller than usual Pugs—and selling them for sometimes twice as much as a traditional Pug. As you might expect, this can mean additional health problems for the puppies. Are Pugs expensive to own? While their small size means Pugs are not as expensive to own as larger breeds, due to the potential health issues discussed above they can be expensive in terms of veterinary care. Pet insurance is a good investment to help cover vet issues as they arise. Pin it to remember the Price of Pugs Posted on Last updated:.

Rating: Miniature Poodle Breed Review by Heidi I just had to put my year-old Miniature Poodle to sleep earlier this week due to her being very sick - but she brought me 11 years of pure joy, affection, and unconditional love. I wasn't even a dog-lover until I got to know her; she won me over so quickly. I LOVE dogs now! She was absolutely brilliant, so smart - she could learn a word after just hearing it once, and she understood words with multiple syllables. She was so clever; I like to think she had a sense of humor. She LOVED to play, but she was also such a gentle and quiet dog, always so comforting, sweet and sensitive. Every single person who met her fell in love with her instantly - from my neighbors who walked their own dogs and met her, to her groomer, to her vet, to my friends. She was quite the charmer. She really was my best friend. Whenever I finish processing my heartbreak over losing my precious girl, I will undoubtedly want to get another Miniature Poodle - not only because the one I had was beyond adorable, but mostly because her personality was second to none. For now, I'll mourn the best dog in the world and cherish her memories. I will always love her, and I will always love Miniature Poodles.
