Bernedoodle Breeders California: Conclusion Choosing Responsible Bernedoodle Breeders in California So, the very first issue you could encounter when looking for a Bernedoodle breeder is scammers. These individuals set up fake social media accounts and post pictures of puppies that they source online in the hopes of tricky unfortunate hopefuls pet parents out of the cost of a deposit. Of course, just as soon as the money leaves your account, they disappear without a trace. It can be tricky to spot the difference between a real breeder and a faker. The latter often take great pains to make their operation look truly authentic. See Also: Click the image Another common issue is puppy mills. In this case, the dogs themselves are really real, but they are bred and raised in subpar facilities by people who are looking to make as much money as possible. The animals are just a means to an end for the breeders and so are often kept in appalling conditions where they are bred and bred and bred. Any puppies from these facilities will likely have numerous health problems. Puppy mills are a common problem in the States today. They can be tough to recognize if you are not able to visit your puppy before purchasing them. Make sure you thoroughly research any breeder that you deal with and carefully read all reviews. Facilities registered with these are often but not always demonstrating their commitment to safe and responsible breeding. Ensure Appropriate Health Checks One of the main responsibilities of breeders is to ensure they are using disease-free parent dogs for the continued health of the Bernedoodle line. They do this by putting the pups through comprehensive genetic screening that highlights whether they may have any genetic issues that could be passed onto their offspring. Responsible breeders will be happy to share the details of these tests with any prospective buyers. See Also: Click the image Look For a Health Guarantee The best way a breeder can demonstrate their confidence in their puppies is by providing the customers with a health guarantee. While the terms and duration of these can vary somewhat, generally, they last for around one to two years and basically state that if any issues develop as a result of genetic defects, the buyer can return the puppy for a full refund. Seek Recommendations from A Trusted Source A great way to find a breeder you can trust is to ask around. While friends and family are the best source of advice, there are also numerous reputable websites with reviews like this one and Yelp! One or both of this puppy's parents have undergone genetic testing. One or both of this puppy's parents are hip certified. One or both of this puppy's parents is OFA Heart certified. This puppy has had early neurological stimulation exercises. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. Like adopting a Golden Retriever from a pet store, there is an increased risk when adopting a pup from a rescue center or shelter as well. Both medium-to-large dogs that are highly intelligent, easy to please, and great with families, it was only a matter of time before someone created the golden shepherd by mixing these two breeds. But what can you expect if you decide to adopt one of these amazing dogs into your family? Read on as I take you through exactly what you can expect from a golden retriever-German shepherd mix, including their size, appearance, temperament, and the care they need to thrive. Is the golden shepherd the right dog for you? Learn more below! Essential Statistics Breed: Mix of golden retriever and German shepherd Height: 21 — 26 inches Coat Type: Medium-long high shedding coat Colors: Black, cream, white, gold, yellow, brown, chocolate, liver Lifespan: 7 — 12 year lifespan Temperament: Highly intelligent, easy to train, playful, friendly, does well with families Exercise: High energy and exercise needs History Of The Breed Golden retrievers were first bred in the United Kingdom to retrieve shot waterfowl. Their soft mouths allow them to retrieve ducks and other game without damaging them. As a highly intelligent breed that is eager to please and with a naturally good nature and understanding of how to act around children, goldens have been popular working dogs since the s, and you will often see them working in search and rescue and disability assistance. German shepherds , also known as Alsatians, were first bred in Germany just before the start of the 20th century as herding dogs. When natural sheep predators began to die out in Germany at the start of the 20th century, German shepherds were taught to do other kinds of work. While German shepherds are not an aggressive breed, they developed a bad reputation in the 20th century when the German Nazi army started using them as working dogs. The breed was also adopted by gangsters and bootleggers in the United States. Fortunately, today, their reputation is largely recuperated, and they are often seen working with police and in roles such as search and rescue. Golden shepherds were first bred around .The intention with this mixed breed was to create a dog with the courage, quickness, and alertness of the German shepherd but also with the good nature of the golden retriever, which is also intelligent, highly trainable, and easy to please. The results are excellent working dogs and family pets. Golden retrievers are usually 21 to 25 inches tall and will usually be the mother in a first generation golden shepherd coupling. They weigh 55 to 75 pounds. German shepherds are slightly larger, measuring 22 to 26 inches tall and weighing 50 to 90 pounds. As you would expect, their golden shepherd offspring measure 21 to 26 inches tall and weigh 50 to 90 pounds on average. Both parent dog breeds have medium-to-long coats that are known to be high-shedding, so you can expect the same from a golden shepherd. Being a mixed breed, they can come in an extensive range of colors, including black, cream, white, gold, yellow, brown, chocolate, and liver, and they will often be bicolor. The color of their coat tends to be highly unpredictable in the first generation. Because they are high-shedding, they do need regular grooming, which means brushing at least once a week to keep shedding under control. Still, there is no escaping all that dog hair, and you will definitely need to invest in a good vacuum cleaner. The way their facial features will develop is less predictable, since they are still a new breed and breeders are still learning to control for desirable features. They can also either have the pointed ears of a German shepherd or the drooping ears of a golden retriever. Either way, they are sure to be a gorgeous pup! Golden Shepherd Temperament And Intelligence Golden retrievers are known for being playful and friendly dogs that love everyone they meet and therefore make terrible guard dogs. They are playful and loyal to the family with whom they have developed a bond. While they can be wary of strangers or anything that seems out of place, they are more likely to alert you with a bark than attack. You can expect a golden shepherd to be playful and friendly, but a little bit warier of strangers than your standard golden retriever. Both parent breeds are highly intelligent and also eager to please. German shepherds, in particular, are also independent thinkers and problem solvers. This means golden shepherds are easy to train, as they learn new commands quickly and enjoy the rewards that come with completing them, but they are also good at knowing what is required of them in new circumstances. Golden shepherds, like both of their parent breeds, are incredibly loyal and will want to be around their people all the time, whether that is out and about, or curled up on the couch at home. This can lead to frustration and destructive behavior. They are naturally protective of children, and despite being large breed dogs, they are very aware of their own size and strength and know how to play gently with children. However, it could be a struggle to have this breed with very young children, as they have lots of playful energy, and this can be overwhelming for smaller folks. Golden Shepherd Energy And Exercise Golden shepherds, like both their parent breeds, are high-energy dogs. Additionally, golden shepherds need at least an hour of fairly intense exercise each day. This means running around the dog park and sniffing everything, playing catch, and going for a swim rather than just a casual walk. They should be getting less exercise as puppies, despite their apparent energy, as too much exercise can undermine their proper development. While they are growing, they should have about five minutes of exercise per day per month of age. So at four months, they need 20 minutes of exercise each day, and at six months, they need half an hour. As adult dogs, they will love joining you on longer adventures, such as hikes and boat trips and will have no problem keeping up. Bear in mind that, while they are natural swimmers, if you go out on a boat, they should be wearing a flotation vest. As well as formal exercise, they need to be able to move around and play throughout the day, and a decent-sized backyard is the best thing for this. Golden Shepherd Health Concerns Of course, when you adopt a dog into your family, you will want to closely monitor and care for their health. This means ensuring they are vaccinated for all the most transmissible canine diseases, such as Parvo , protection against fleas and ticks , and proper dental care, which ideally means daily brushing. But certain dog breeds are also more susceptible to certain health conditions than others. With mixed breeds, they could be less susceptible to some of the most common ailments of their parent breeds, or they could be more susceptible to certain conditions. The best thing to do is inform yourself about the common health issues for both parent breeds and monitor your puppy for all of them. This means for golden shepherds, you will want to be on the lookout for: Elbow and hip dysplasia, common in both parent breeds Eye conditions, common in both parent breeds Bloating gastric dilation volvulus , common in both parent breeds Epilepsy, common in German shepherds Allergies, common in golden retrievers Hypothyroidism, common in golden retrievers Degenerative myelopathy hemangiosarcoma, common in German shepherds Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, common in German shepherds Of course, just because some dog breeds are more susceptible to these conditions does not mean they will get any of them, and your golden shepherd could pass their entire 7-toyear lifespan without being affected by any of these. But if you know the symptoms, you can catch any problems early and ensure a better quality of life for your dog. One other health concern with both the parent breeds of golden shepherds is obesity. They love their food, and we love to reward them with delicious treats. Remember, every treat you give them also contains calories! Also, never feed them off your own plate. They already tend to think they are human, and this can just lead to begging at the table and food theft! Plus, a lot of the foods humans eat are toxic to dogs. This not only includes chocolate and fake sugar, but also common kitchen staples such as onion and garlic. Invest in good quality food for your dog and avoid giving them table scraps. No doubt having read my guide you are interested in bringing a fantastic golden shepherd into your family. These are the questions you should ask yourself to determine whether you are a good fit for this unique breed. Do you have an active lifestyle? Your dog is going to need lots of exercise and is happiest when they can accompany their humans in energetic activities. Are you out of the house a lot? Golden shepherds love company and need to be around their people most of the time. They need a home where there is usually someone about or where they can accompany someone to work. Do you have much space? Golden shepherds thrive when they have space to use their energy, and they are fairly big, so they can make a small apartment feel claustrophobic. Are you willing to accept dog hair as a part of life? Are you a first-time owner? Golden shepherds are easy to train and control, so they are actually great choices for first-time owners. Do you have kids or other pets? Golden shepherds are great around kids and other pets if they are properly socialized. But these big dogs with lots of energy could be challenging if you have very small children. Let these questions guide you as to whether a golden shepherd is the right dog for you. In short, if you are low on space, time, or energy, a different breed might be a better match. If you find a breeder selling for less than this, be wary, as you may be dealing with a puppy mill. You may also find golden shepherds in your local shelter , because despite being amazing and pliable dogs, their energy and attention and exercise needs often prove too much for some owners. What do you think of the golden shepherd? Does it mix the best aspects of the German shepherd and golden retriever? Is this the kind of dog you would like to adopt? Helps ease anxiety in their new home. We love using Bully Sticks to help divert these unwanted behaviors. Check out more of our favorites on our New Puppy Checklist. Colby Colby Morita has been raising and training guide and service dog puppies for over 13 years. Colby has been writing to the PuppyInTraining. I have owned both. They are remarkably similar. Goldens are far less suspicious and more outgoing. But the GSD is also very sweet and less likely to hound your guests. Goldens are only good at scaring intruders with their size and bark but unlikely to do anything about it. While the GSD may actually do something about it. Both shed but in my experience goldens shed much more contrary to what many GSD owners say. Goldens produce hair tumbleweeds weeds while GSD produce much less hair. You can actually get done brushing a GSD but you can never be done brushing a golden retriever. Pick a golden if you want a dog that will be friendly with no work. Love both of these breeds. Superior dogs for sure. October 25, at am Hey Evelyn, hope you can get your own dog! While every dog is different, golden retrievers are typically sociable. Make sure to socialize your dog early. Early socialization is one of the best ways to create a sociable dog! Sammy February 22, at am I would say that the two dogs are both really intelligent but I would rather chose the German shepherd because they are really kind and loyal. I have one of my one that is 6 months and she is already trained to sit lay down roll over play dead and stop. German shepherd is a really good dog!!!! JIll Michalski August 20, at pm Hi. Golden retrievers are also very kind. My golden was trained, gives paw, sits and lies down at a very early age. Do your research. They are both adorable dogs, depending on what you are willing to put in is what you get out of it. Connie March 23, at pm I have a white German Shepherd. He sheds a lot but nothing unreasonable. High energy and extremely playful, easy to train, but he is very suspicious of guests. He picks and chooses who he likes. I am looking to getting a dog in our family but dont have to deal with a lot of shedding. I understand dogs need to shed for many reasons and therefore wanting to know which is easier to clean, maintain, could decrease shedding, and could be inside my house without hair lying around the floor. The fur or hair was easily able to clean and spot which in comparison to the German Shepard is hard to clean and spot depending where the dog lays around and the color of the fur. I am just seeking into finding answers which breed I should get. I hope you guys can reach out to me and give me answers which fits more to my problem. They are highly intelligent as well and easy to train. We are going to move to our family farm in Minnesota as soon as my mom can find a job. We have a little family, its just me, my mom, my dad, and our tuxedo kitten Oreo. We do not know if we should get a GSD or a goldie. I have a few questions; 1. Who gets along with kittens better 2. Who sheds less 3. Who loves their humans the most 4. Who would follow their humans and take a walk with them with no leash? For your first question, a Golden would probably get along better with a kitten. German Shepherds have high prey drives and may chase the kitten, but either one could get along with it if they are introduced while the dog is a puppy. Make sure to keep the puppy on a leash during their first meeting, or keep them in separate rooms with a baby gate between them so they can get used to each other with no possibility for a fight. Make sure there is room for the cat to get away from the dog just in case there ever is a fight or the dog attacks the kitten. As for the shedding, both dogs will shed a lot. I had a golden mix and her hair was everywhere. Between loving their humans the most, both dogs would be great. German Shepherds are extremely loyal and would protect their owners from anything. They will bond to the family and be suspicious of outsiders. Golden retrievers are extremely friendly. They will love the family and love other people. If you want a dog that will love you and protect, get a GSD. No-leash walking needs to be trained. Some dogs do it naturally but they need to learn not to wander and when to come back. My golden mix was also trained to walk off-leash. You can research how to train them to walk off-leash, but you MUST train them how to walk on the leash first. Waking them on the leash will teach them how close they should stay to you and teach them how to match your pace. For the kitten question, a Goldie might be better. GSDs can have a high prey drive so they might chase the kitten, but a Goldie might too. You need to socialize them early. Make sure the puppy is on a leash for their first meeting, and keep them in different rooms separated by a baby gate so they can get used to each other with no possibility of a fight occurring. Shedding- both will shed. Brushing them a few times a week will help control the shedding and keep more of the fur off your floors. If you want a dog that will love their humans, either one will be perfect. However, they are still different. GSDs are extremely loyal and will bond closely with the family. They can have aggression issues but this should be no problem with proper training. They love everyone. If you want a dog that will love the family AND protect them, a German Shepherd is the dog to go with. As for no-leash walking, this will be trained. My German Shepherd mix and Golden retrievers mix are both trained to walk off leash. You can look up training methods to teach this. This will teach them how close they need to stay to you and not to wander or run away. Please teach them to walk on a leash first, and gradually release them for short periods of time once you are confident they will not run. I really hope this helps and you enjoy raising whichever breed you choose. GSDs are more intelligent than golden retrievers, meaning they are easier to train and excel at many jobs. GSDs are very protective of their owners. Also golden retrievers can pick up a lot of inappropriate habits when greeting visitors. GSDs are far more obedient and reliable. Both dogs are very good with children and other animals but, I would recommend the GSD because they are far more gentle and adaptable, but goldens can be a little boisterous. Goldens have high maintenance coat and shed far more than the GSDs. GSDs have medium maintenance coat, making it easier to groom. In conclusion, both are superior and lovable companions but, the GSD german shepherd is easier to care for and is more capable than the golden retriever. Two puppies, a 17 month old GSD and a 4 month old Golen. Great dogs! I like a lot of you am just a dog person. Stella is my 3rd GSD. More than what dog is a better family pet I want to talk about YOU as the pack leader. I think a avarage trained or better GSD is the best dog ever! In no way are they agressive just …. I dont know a little stand offish. If a Golden Retriever or German Shepherd? I want the dog to grow up with my little one. And to protect her n love her. Which one is the best one? Mustafa March 23, at pm The german shepherd is far more protective than the golden retriever thanks: Bradley July 20, at am If you want a dog that would love and play the goldie is the way to go. They are eager to please and very helpful. While they do shed quite a bit if you brush them a few times a week it wont be a big deal. They are also more likely to lick an intruder then hurt it but if you treat the dog right and it sees anyone in your house trying to harm your or your daughter you can count on it to be right there and getting that person away. Long or medium, water resistant Coat Colors Bi-colored, range from black, cream, sable, black, and amber. Above all, know that these dogs are by no means small! In fact, they can grow to be quite large. This mix will grow to be somewhere in between how big its parents are. Male and female German Shepherds have a better big difference in height and weight. While males grow up to 24 and 26 inches cm , females get to be about 22 and 24 inches cm. As far as weight, males can be 65 to 90 pounds kg heavy while females are only between 50 to 70 pounds kg. The Golden Retriever looks a bit different. Again, there is a difference between the sexes. Females can grow as tall as .Males are inches 58 — 61 cm tall and pounds 29 — 34 kg heavy. But what does this mean for your Golden Shepherd? As mentioned above these dogs grow to 20 to 26 inches cm tall and 60 to 85 pounds 27 — 39 kg heavy. It really is just a guessing game with this breed. Hands down, they the best out of the best when it comes to guarding. Golden Retrievers are on the opposite end of the spectrum. They are very easy going, love all strangers, and are loyal to any family members. These dogs are social and beloved because of their awesome people pleasing skills. The Golden Retriever German Shepherd Mix could inherit any combination of these behaviors from their parents, just as the same as their appearance. Their cleverness makes training easy. Kids and Golden Shepherds get along great. Your dog will always be up for some fetch or tug-of-war. Since there is hunting blood in their veins, watch them around smaller animals. Or you might witness lots of chasing. Be on the Lookout for These Possible Health Problems source As mentioned in the first paragraph Golden Shepherds have a life expectancy of around years if they receive enough love and high-quality care. However, German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers have numerous health issues that can pass down to their puppies. Work closely with your breeder to prevent this from happening to you. German Shepherd Health Risks These dogs have been bred for multiple centuries. Because of this, they run into many medical problems. However, here are the top three problems that you might run into. Hip and Elbow Dysplasia This is a pretty common disease for most, but unfortunately, the German Shepherd is more prone to it than others. In fact, 1 out of 5 German Shepherds are expected to have this. This could be blamed on their energetic personality and big stature. Regardless, hip and elbow dysplasia is when the hip or elbow joint frequently pops out of its socket. As you can expect, this can cause the bones to wear down over time and, eventually, cause lameness. Perianal Fistula In other words, doggy diarrhea. It can be particularly alarming as it is often accompanied with bloody poop. It all starts when the skin around the anus begins to gets infected. Osteoarthritis Or, when the joints begin to wear down after normal living. Most specifically for German Shepherds, it happens around the spine. If you take good care of your German Shepherd, as well as schedule regular vet visits to be proactive in their health, you can expect 11 happy years together. The most alarming of these is cancer. Aside from this, you can expect .Here are several of their other health problems: Atopic Dermatitis : Otherwise known as allergies! Most commonly, dogs can be allergic to pollen, animal dander, plants, insects, food, and medication. This breed is known to have lots of issues with this. Aortic Stenosis : This is a medical condition that affects the blood flow in the chambers of the heart. Eventually, this can thicken the heart walls and lead to serious heart issues and even failure. Just like with German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers are also prone to hip and elbow dysplasia. Many do debates whether this is true. The unfortunate side of this is that examples have shown us over time they may change into something not as healthy. A great example of this is the English Bulldog. Yet, on the other hand, mixing combines the positive traits of two types while getting rid of the negative. It takes a lot of time and hard effort, but it can happen. Regardless of this debate, whether your pup is healthy comes down to the breeder you choose and the parents. But what should you specifically work on? Make sure to socialize your Golden Shepherd early in case they adopt the nervousness around strangers from their German Shepherds parents. Have visitors, other animals, and children over often. The more experience they have around strangers, the better. Plan for many daily walks. Because of this, a house with a yard is better. But an apartment can work if given enough daily exercise. Since German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers are prone to having joint problems and your pup could inherit these issues, be cautious when exercising. As well, overeating can be a problem because extra weight increases the load on the joints. Make sure to use a brush that can reach both layers of the coat. Heading to the bathtub too often can damage their skin. As well, pay attention to how long their nails have grown and clip when necessary. Brush their teeth weekly to avoid the buildup of plaque and stinky kisses. And check their ears weekly for too much wax. This depends on where you buy from and the pedigree. The good news is that there are breeders everywhere! Also across Canada and the UK. As we mentioned before, do your research! Make sure anyone you purchase from is raising healthy and happy pups. Do a quick search in your area on sites like:. Golden retrievers are sweet, playful, family dogs. They have beautiful coats that can range from cream , to gold, to red , and have floppy ears and feathered legs and tails. German Shepherd Overview German shepherds are herding dogs that like to work. Like golden retrievers, the traits that made them great herding dogs make them both great and occasionally difficult family companions. Energy Level Golden retrievers: Golden retrievers have a lot of energy. They need hours of exercise per day and need to be both physically stimulated by playing games like fetch and tug and mentally stimulated training and puzzle toys help here. German shepherds: German shepherds are high-energy dogs, too. Both dogs have a ton of energy, so no matter which one you go with, expect to do a lot of training, playing, and working to avoid potential behavior problems and keep your dog happy. Golden retrievers: Goldens are some of the best family dogs around. German shepherds: German shepherds make great family dogs, too. But if you have kids, golden retrievers will probably be a better choice to go with. Are They Easy To Train? However, they can be easily distracted, which may make training a little more difficult. Conclusion Although both dogs are relatively easy to train, German shepherds are the winners here. Temperament Golden retrievers are some of the sweetest, most loving dogs out there. They like to spend time with their families and are very playful and often goofy. They love just about everything and everyone. German shepherds: German shepherds are loyal and loving with their families, but usually a little more suspicious or aloof when it comes to strangers. The Golden Shepherd tends to be a friendly, energetic, and affectionate dog that is loyal to their family and tends to be protective of them. Although they are not recognized by the American Kennel Club, they are recognized by other notable organizations like the American Canine Hybrid Club, Designer Breed Registry, and more. A Golden Shepherd tends to bring the all-around friendly personality of the Golden Retriever and the intelligence and devotion of the German Shepherd into one dog. They love their families and tend to get along with everyone including children. These dogs are not necessarily suspicious of strangers, but they are alert and will tend to bark if they see something they feel you need to know about. Golden Shepherds are moderately adaptable dogs. Because they are high-energy, they tend to do better in homes with yards where they can run. They can adapt to apartment living as long as plenty of time is dedicated to giving them the daily exercise they need. They tend to do well in most climates. But, as with any dog breed, they are sensitive to heat. Because Golden Shepherds are devoted to their families and thrive on spending time with them, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. A mixed-breed dog can inherit the potential health issues common to one, both, or neither of their parent breeds. As a larger, barrel-chested dog breed, the Golden Shepherd, like their parent breeds, is also at a higher risk for bloat. The Golden Shepherd is a highly trainable dog breed. They are intelligent, eager to please, and pick up on things quickly. This makes them a good fit for owners of all experience levels. Puppy training classes can still be a great idea because they offer opportunities to socialize a puppy while also strengthening your bond with them. The Golden Shepherd will have a thick double-coat that sheds moderately year-round and more heavily twice a year as seasons change. A quick daily brushing, especially during seasonal shedding sessions, will help remove loose fur to make your dog more comfortable and also help keep more fur contained to a brush instead of everywhere else. Bathing is on an occasional, as-needed basis. Monthly nail trims are usually enough to keep nails from growing too long or causing issues. Plus, if anything is starting to happen, you can get the vet before it gets more serious. Because many dog owners overlook this, gum disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. Brushing teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day is ideal. The Golden Shepherd comes from two high-energy dogs, so they require a lot of daily exercise to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime and time to run are the minimum. But, a Golden Shepherd will likely be up for more activity if you are. A trip to the dog park for some off-leash time, playing frisbee or chasing a ball, hiking, swimming, running, and more can all help this dog expend some extra energy. You want to keep their activity low-impact as they are still growing, but once they finish growing, try different activities to see what you both love doing together. You could even try training them for dog sports! A fully-grown Golden Shepherd usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. A Golden Shepherd generally lives for years. Looking for a loyal, loving canine companion? Hopefully, this will help you determine whether or not a springador would be a good fit for your lifestyle. The Springador Breed Profile: Key Takeaways Springadors are mixed-breed dogs made by crossing a springer spaniel with a Labrador retriever. Like most other mixed-breed pups, springadors frequently exhibit a combination of traits inherited from each parent breed. It is difficult to predict how any mixed-breed pup will turn out. However, there are a few traits and characteristics that seem to describe most springadors, such as a high energy level and super-friendly nature. There are also a few other breeds and breed combinations that springador fans may want to consider. This includes purebred pups like flat-coated retrievers and lovable mixes like boradors. Labradors are generally known for being energetic, smart, and loving dogs who do well with families or single owners, as long as their needs are met. Labradors make great pets, but they are also known for being adept therapy and hunting dogs due to their trainability, intelligence, work ethic, and good-natured personality. As a matter of fact, Labs were originally bird hunting dogs bred to hunt and retrieve waterfowl. These medium-sized dogs usually weigh somewhere between 50 and 80 pounds and come in golden, chocolate, or black coat variants. These dogs have a beautiful double coat that comes in a variety of colors, usually white accompanied by black or liver a deep brown color markings. The springador also has large, floppy ears that should be cleaned regularly especially after swimming to prevent ear infections. In general, the Springador does not shed much. The Springador is an energetic and active dog who will require around an hour of exercise every day. The Springador can work well with kids, although this is a mixed breed that definitely does better with older adults. If you have children and are considering adding a Springador to your family, make sure that both parties are socialized properly right from the start. In general, Springadors are fine around other household pets, though they can view smaller animals as prey. Set boundaries and supervise play. The Springador is definitely not a dog who does well being left alone all day. In fact, if the mixed breed does not receive enough attention and human contact, negative personality traits and behaviors might arise. The Labrador Retriever hails from Canada, where they were originally employed by fishermen to help bring back fish that might have escaped. These days, the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular dogs in the United States. When it comes to the Springer Spaniel, this is a breed that comes from Spain and was introduced to other European countries by the Romans. Springer Spaniels have a history of being used as a game dog charged with retrieving tasks. Even though the Springador got their start as a designer breed, some have ended up in shelters or in the care of rescue groups. Consider adoption if you decide this is the breed for you! Springador Size The Springador is a large dog. As is always the case with newer dog breeds, exact size standards might vary. Most weigh in at 50 to 90 pounds and range in height from 18 to 24 inches. Female Springadors are sometimes smaller than their male counterparts. This mixed breed is super friendly and will happily form loving bonds with the humans in their life. This is a dog who craves companionship and will want to become a focal part of your day-to-day life. The downside to this is that the Springador is definitely not a dog who does well being left alone all day. If you have an active family that also likes to spend a lot of time outside, the Springador will be a great fit for your lifestyle. Consider agility training, especially if you have a safe outdoors space to offer to the dog. Springador Health Springadors are generally considered to be healthy dogs, although the breed can be predisposed to some of the same conditions that the Springer Spaniel and Labrador Retriever face. Your vet can help you develop a care routine that will keep your dog healthy. Consider adding agility training and fetch-and-retrieve tasks to the daily outdoor routine. The Springador is definitely a mixed breed that loves a visit to the dog park—being around other canines helps add variety to their day. Wash them weekly with a damp cloth and look out for any signs of infection or a build up of dirt. Springador Feeding An ideal Springador diet should be formulated for a large dog with high energy. Springador Coat Color And Grooming The main colors that the coat of the Springador comes in are black, brown, and gold. When it comes to climate, the Springador is an adaptable dog who can live happily in most climates. But remember to dress the mixed breed up in a dog coat if it gets very cold outside, and always make sure adequate shade and fresh water is provided when the temperature spikes. Springador Children And Other Pets The Springador can work well with kids, although this is a mixed breed that definitely does better with older adults. So ensure that the boundaries between the dog and any existing household pets are laid down properly, and supervise interactions. Ultimately, early socialization really pays off with this mixed breed. Make sure to reward your Springador for good behavior and adhere to a proper training regimen when you bring them home to your family. Springador Rescue Groups It may be hard to find a breed-specific rescue for Springadors because they are a mixed breed. However, you may want to try Springer Spaniel or Labrador Retriever breed-specific rescues, as they often care for mixes, as well. Here are some rescues you can try:. He is eager to please and quite agreeable when it comes to trying new games or learning new tricks. However, he is an energetic pooch. The Labradinger craves as much attention as he will lavish on you. As you may expect, the Labradinger has a strong prey drive, especially in pups in which the Springer is dominant. That is, after all, his calling. He also has a high wanderlust potential if he finds something interesting to investigate. We recommend keeping him on a leash. The size and energy of the Labradinger mean that early socialization is imperative. Suffice to say that he is a handful. Training is just as essential. The Labradinger puppy has a moderate tendency to nip. Instead, it has a fatter part in the middle that resembles, well, an otter tail , hence, his nickname. Just be sure to watch any breakable things on the table if he stands next to you on the couch! However, he also is an excellent therapy and service dog. His keen sense of smell makes him a natural for search-and-rescue efforts. The field type is the gundog going after upland game. He has a docked tail and a lightweight coat better suited for this purpose. The bench dog is the one you see professionally groomed in the show ring. His coat is more luxurious, an excellent match for his handsome appearance. You will also have to curb any bad behaviors and cultivate his canine manners. Are These Dogs Good for Families? He has enough energy to keep up with the kids. Both parent breeds are affectionate and kid-friendly. Sometimes, he gets a bit too excited while roughhousing. Aggressiveness is even treated as a fault in the show ring. Cats and other small animals are another story. As we mentioned earlier, the prey drive runs strong in the Labradinger. If they run away, your pup will chase them. The exception to this observation is if you raise your puppy together with a cat. You may even find that the two will become best friends. Every breed has its quirks and unwelcome behavior. That makes learning what you can expect a smart idea for any prospective pet owner. The reason is that the rate of growth differs between small and large breeds. The former matures quickly, while the latter may not reach its adult size until well over 12 months. We suggest feeding your pooch a high-quality food that will ensure he gets everything he needs. Despite how active the Labradinger is, the Retriever in him has a high propensity for gaining weight. We recommend two things. First, offer treats as a training aid only. Make sure that the kids know that, too. Second, monitor his weight. Remember that the feeding instructions on the back of the bag are a suggestion only. You have his playful nature going for you on this score. An hour of playing frisbee will do the trick. This pup is quite food-motivated so that you can use it to make the lessons go down easier. Another thing to note is that this pooch is sensitive. Stick with positive reinforcement only. Occasional baths are also a good idea if there is more Labrador in your pup. Sometimes, he seems indestructible. As far as congenital issues, there are a few for which there are health screenings. We strongly encourage you to buy only from breeders who do them, given the popularity of both breeds. Minor Conditions. Also called Labradingers or Labradinger Retrievers, Springador pups often take on the colors of a Labrador — yellow, black, and chocolate — and become fairly large. They may also develop the curly hair and white markings that typify Springer Spaniels, though! Sporting Dog Roots Your Springador will definitely live up to their roots as sporting type dogs, being a workhorse Lab combined with a hard headed Springer Spaniel. But purebred dogs are your best bet if you are looking for a working dog to do a specific job. Labs were originally bred to retrieve fish from hooks or traps for their owners. Over the generations they became known for being the best dog to have with you if you were doing any kind of shooting. They are skilled at running, swimming, fighting, and following their sense of smell. Springer Spaniels are an old breed; the Romans are said to be responsible for their original European distribution. Springers are sporting dogs, bred to retrieve and flush out game. They are known for being elegant, active, and friendly — and for causing lots of trouble! Their determination to reach their prey can override their interest in listening to your commands. Sporting dog breeds have been combined for generations by game keepers and farmers. Dog handlers keen to have a dog that can do it all. The classic Lab temperament is sweet, friendly, active, easy to train, and easy to socialize, and tends to shine through in Sprinador mixes. Appearances, Size and Weight Springador dogs have even leg to back ratios, long muzzles and wide happy expressions. Their tails are long and broad, and their ears hang low around their faces. Springer puppies can weigh from lbs. They range from about .Springer spaniels are slightly smaller than Labs, at inches. They weigh around lbs. A Springador full grown, being a mix, can take on the smaller size of Springer Spaniels, or grow to be as big as Labs. You just never know with cross breed dogs! They may have white markings. They tend to have medium-to-long coats that are somewhat dense. This makes their fur more waterproof. The hair can range from straight to wiry and curly. They are high-shed dogs in-season, so if you are allergic these are not the dogs for you! Springador dogs should also be groomed frequently. They will need the long hairs on their legs and ears clipping to keep them free of undergrowth! The Springador Temperament Labradors are friendly and outgoing, and mix well with others. They do bark to sound the alert, but are even tempered on the whole. English Springer Spaniels are friendly and playful. They are also known for being hardworking, steady, and obedient to a point. Springador dogs are incredibly driven when it comes to prey, due to their working roots. Novice handlers find it hard to control them outdoors or under distracting conditions. You should avoid casual walks off leash unless you have taught them to come when called in every scenario. Recall is everything and takes a long time to proof with a dog this driven. Your Springador will have lots of energy, be prone to noise and sadly nervous aggression too in some working lines. Stamina is a key part of their personality. Springador Training All dogs can benefit from basic obedience training and socialization at an early age. They are easy to train, and react well to positive reinforcement. Springer Spaniels especially are very energetic and have a high prey drive, which means they should get recall training from a young age. Springadors can be headstrong! These dogs, because of their Labrador blood, will pull on the leash if possible, so training them not to do that will help save your arm! Also, Labradors stay puppy-like for a long time. This is another good reason to train your Springadors. You may wish to consider advanced training — agility, or therapy, for your Springador. They like to work, and their high activity levels make this good enrichment for them. Springador Exercise A small apartment may not be the best place for your Springador. With so much energy to spare, they really need space to roam. Their minds must also be exercised, so we do recommend agility training or retriever training to keep them stimulated. Springer Spaniels especially are not happy when left alone much, so you should take that into account as well. Springador Parent Health Tests Because Labs and Springer Spaniels are prone to similar inherited diseases, you might not see the health advantages as much in the Labrador x Springer cross as with others. The pups of any mixed breed dog will have similar concerns to their parents, so keep that in mind as you shop for Springadors. But it is impossible to know exactly how those health problems will manifest in a cross-bred puppy. It is important, always, to have a health screening for your dog, and to know its family health history whenever possible. Make sure that both parents have good hip scores, clear eye tests and are PRA clear. The Lab parent should also have good elbow scores. However, in general, both dogs are robust and healthy breeds. Also, purebred dogs may not live as long as mixed breeds. But the longevity of your English Springer Spaniel Lab mix depends on a number of factors, including diet, environment, and quality of life. It also depends on genetics, so when you choose your Springador, consider the health of both parents and their families. Your dog may live anywhere from years. By keeping your Springadors healthy and happy, you can ensure they live as long as possible! As with all interactions with breeders, do your research. If you can, visit the home where your potential pup is growing up. That way, you can meet the parents, see the conditions where she was raised, and view for yourself how the breeder interacts with the dogs. Remember to ask the breeder for health certification for the dogs. A breeder with integrity will have no problems with this. Always meet the mother when buying a puppy. Springador Puppies Remember that if you want to buy cross-bred puppies, they are at risk for the same health problems as their parents of either breed. You could get more Lab, or you could get more Springer Spaniel qualities. This goes for their health issues, their temperament, and their physiology. Springador Rescue If you are willing and able to rescue a Springador, rescues do exist. You may also be able to fix a mix inside a shelter, too. You will also have less choice when it comes to age, gender, and other aspects of your new dog. Training or re-training may be required. If you want to rescue a Springador, you may have to be patient to find the right animal for you and your family. The dog you want might not be waiting in a shelter yet. Colors — Black and tan Eye Color — Brown Exercise — Springador need plenty of exercise very long walks and runs and playtime in the yard several times a day. Training — The Springador is a very easy to train dog! Socialization — Positive exposure to other people and dogs daily for best socialization. The Spanador is a perfect apartment dog! The Springador is renowned as one of the best family dog breeds to own! They have medium to long hair and are small to medium-sized dog breeds. The Springer Spaniel Lab mix is also a great dog for beginners, but also beware that they can suffer from separation anxiety. If you are a hunter, then this breed is great for bird hunting retrieval services. Other than hunting, this breed is, all in all, a great family pet that wants nothing more than to follow you about wherever the family goes. Common Names for Springer Spaniel Lab Mix Springador Springer Spaniel Labrador mix Exercise Requirements of the Springador Both parent breed are working dogs; they need a medium amount of brisk walking, jogging, and or running, along with playtime in the backyard during the day. When walking, releasing the dog off the leash is inadvisable. These agile hunters could quickly take off into the underbrush to chase a bird here, a chipmunk there, a squirrel here and pretty soon, they are lost. In her youthful days, we had a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who fancied herself a hunter. She would go tearing off after something that caught her attention. She could be gone in and instant, dashing into the woods with her little bark leading us here and there. Back to the Springador, proper exercise is the key to a great life with the Springador! To teach your dog good manners will make your life with your dog much more enjoyable. So take your Springador for puppy training, which is a great way to begin socializing them. Then regular outings to town will help to acclimate them to different sounds, smells, people and animals. Avoid Dog Parks!! Avoid taking your puppy to the dog park. The dogs in the dog park can be rude and even aggressive. One bad experience can scare your puppy for life. The dog park can also be a carrier of disease and germs to your puppy. Plus puppy training time can be a fun bonding time for you and your fur baby. When training the puppy, do not give up on the commands, but rather keep repeating the same command for the same action. There are differing opinions on the different training styles. Some use clickers but never treats. Others use treats, but not clickers, and other variations. So read up on different approaches to see what fits you and your dog best. We prefer to use a combination of several simple methods, and alternate between them. For more on dog training , this might help. Read on to find out more about this playful breed and to find out whether it is a good choice of family pet for your home. Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. More social dogs have a tendency to run up to strangers for pets and scratches, while less social dogs shy away and are more cautious, even potentially aggressive. If you have dogs or children, try to have them meet the puppy before you bring it home. Ensure that they are respectful of the puppy and its mum, but also that they all get along well. This is a first meeting, so it might not be perfect, but look for signs of aggression and dominance. Give your Springador puppy a nice welcome home by having a comfy dog bed, treats and toys ready! Although it is a hybrid, we can determine a lot of likely characteristics of the resulting cross from the attitudes of the parent breeds. As such, here is what you can expect from your puppy if you buy or adopt one of this mixed breed. Are These Dogs Good for Families? With that said, it is an active breed and can be prone to moments of running around. As such, it may be too boisterous for some small children and will prefer the company of older children that know how to play well. There are usually no problems with regards to aggressiveness, however, and it should not be protective of children if they have friends around. Although this breed is very active and does require plenty of exercise, it will happily shadow its owners around the house, play in the yard, and will curl up in front of the fire or on your lap, of an evening. The Springador is a cross between two hunting dogs and may retain some prey drive. As such, there might be some issues introducing one of this breed to cats, and any smaller animal should not be left unsupervised around any dog. In most cases, though, the Springador will get along with other dogs and can become good friends with cats, especially if they are introduced at a very young age so they have time to get to know one another and bond as a family. Things to Know When Owning a Springador: Friendly, loyal, loving, and playful, the Springador will fit in well with most families and makes a great companion pet for individual owners, too. However, the breed has a strong desire to be around its family at all times and this, combined with its high intelligence and energy levels, means that it can suffer separation anxiety if left alone too long. Separation anxiety is not only distressing for your dog, but it can lead to unwanted and destructive behavior like chewing and destroying items around the house. It can also cause problems with nearby neighbors, so it may not be a suitable breed for families that are all out at work or school every day. Similarly, the high energy levels mean that the Springador usually fares better in a home with a yard or garden, rather than in an apartment. Although a potentially good family companion, it is not the most appropriate breed for all potential owners. Below, we look at some of the other requirements and needs of the breed, so that you can determine whether it is the right choice for you. The Springador is usually smaller than a Labrador but is still considered a large dog. It has a large appetite, and you will need to feed between two and three cups of a good quality kibble each day. Weight problems can be very problematic for dogs, and the Labrador is especially prone to them. They have a seemingly endless appetite that means they will hoover up any food you put in front of them, so be sure to carefully weigh the food you give. You can also feed wet food or canned food, and every food is different, so accurately weigh your dog and then follow the manufacturer guidelines on the volume to feed. If combining both wet and dry food, be careful not to overfeed. You can feed half the recommended dry food and half the recommended wet food. This will give your pet a good mixture of the two foods, ensure that they get all of their nutritional requirements, and provide some variety and excitement in feeding. You also need to take into account any treats that you give your dog. High-value food treats are commonly used in training, especially when teaching new commands and behaviors. Use low-calorie treats and reduce the amount of food you give your dog if you do use food treats. Raw food diets have become increasingly popular because they give owners total control over the ingredients and amounts that are fed. It ensures food is fresh and, if your dog has sensitivities or allergies, it also means that you can create a specialized diet. It does require more work on your part, although you can prepare and properly store the food a few days in advance. The resulting cross is no slouch, is as happy in water as it is on dry land and will benefit from a minimum of one hour of exercise each day. This can include walks and you can take the breed hiking: it will likely outlast you on most treks. It is also very intelligent, so it is beneficial to include some form of mental stimulation to prevent them from getting bored. Consider puppy classes when your dog is young because this will help lay the groundwork for future training at home. It will also allow you to socialize the dog in a positive environment where other owners are in the same boat as you. Springer Spaniels are used as sniffer dogs and tracker dogs, so if you can find some form of exercise or canine sport class that involves scent tracking, then this will fit in well with the breed. Similarly, both parent breeds enjoy time in the water and are highly skilled in their aquatic adventures. Canine sports offer a good opportunity for intense exercise, allow socialization, allow you to train your dog, and they also make a great bonding experience for the two of you. You may need to offer additional warmth in sub-zero temperatures, however, and you should always ensure that any dog has plenty of water and shade when the weather gets really hot. As a mixture of a Labrador and Springer Spaniel, the hybrid breed has medium-length hair that is usually curly and thick. It will need brushing weekly to avoid knots. The breed is a light shedder, although it does shed once or twice a year, depending on the climate. These assist in breaking down tartar and preventing plaque from building up. Poor dental health is a real problem for pet dogs, and only through regular brushing and care can you hope to avoid it. If you do see signs of the following problems, though, you should consult a vet to have checks and scans done. The quicker a problem is diagnosed, the better the outlook. Minor Conditions. Clearly, there is something special about this Springer Lab crossbreed dog. These new hybrid dogs have their fans and their critics. But then again, so do certain purebred dog breeds. For people who love dogs and are seeking a unique dog with a specific set of strengths and attributes, find out if perhaps the Springer Lab is the perfect dog for you! What is a Springador? Setting aside more complex issues of crossbred versus purebred for now, a Springador is the official nickname for the Labrador Springer mix breed dog. This means that all Springadors will have Labrador x Springer characteristics and traits. However, there is no way to predict in advance which of these characteristics and traits from either parent dog might manifest in a given puppy! For some dog lovers, this is a source of great adventure and anticipation. For others, it may be a less desirable aspect of bringing home a Springer Lab puppy. If you are one who needs a dog with a very specific set of attributes, another good option is to adopt a Springador fully grown! Springer Spaniel and Lab history While there have been crossbred dog breeds since the early 21st century and occasionally before — after all, dogs will be dogs sometimes! Since there can be a certain element of the unknown in every litter of hybrid puppies, one of the hands-down best ways to try to figure out what a puppy might grow up to be like is to learn as much as you possibly can about both parent dog breeds. We will start here with a brief overview of the Springer Spaniel and Labrador Retriever breed history. However, with a history that stretches back to A. Since there are two different Springer Spaniel breeds English Springer Spaniel, Welsh Springer Spaniel and 10 total Spaniel breeds, figuring out exactly what Spaniel breed has co-parented your Springador puppy can be very important! Springer Spaniels were bred to be flushing dogs. Their job originally was to jump and bark and flush spring small game birds and furry mammals out of the underbrush to be hunted with hounds, hawks, or guns. These dogs are tireless and very, very good at their jobs! These dogs were originally bred in Newfoundland and called the lesser Newfoundland dog, or alternately, the St. The original St. Originally, Labradors were no surprise here retrievers in the field. They were working dogs who excelled at wading or swimming to retrieve downed water birds and other prey. Their thick, waterproof coat continues forward as evidence of these early beginnings. Today, there are two distinct Labrador Retriever lines , the English show and American pet lines. There are some distinct temperament and appearance differences between the two lines. So here again, it will be important to find out precisely which line the co-parent dog your Springador puppy hails from. Springador origins No one is certain exactly when the hybrid dog breed named the Springador first arose in earnest. Since both Springer Spaniels and Labradors can be, well, determined when they want to make puppies, it is generally agreed that the earliest of these crossbred dogs was likely created purely by accident! But today, the Springador hybrid dog breed is a recognized crossbreed dog — officially in the UK and less officially in the United States. Part of the continuing resistance to the Springador, and to crossbred dogs in general, comes from a perspective in some circles that crossbred dogs dilute purebred dog lines that breeders have worked so hard to build. However, in certain cases, there can be an argument even among dedicated purebred breeders to introduce crossbreeding to strengthen very limited and fragile genetic lines. When done with care and planning, this can sometimes be beneficial for the healthy future of certain purebred dog breeds. While it is unlikely percent of dog lovers, breeders, or club leaders will ever find agreement in the ongoing debate over purebred dogs versus mutts , or mixed breed dogs, today it is at least clear that both are here to stay. Springador size Like all other aspects of a Springador pup, Springador size can take after either parent dog in the Springer Spaniel and Lab mix. So for planning purposes, it can be helpful to look at size extremes — both small and large. In both purebred parent dog breeds, the males tend to be taller and heavier than the females. Springer Spaniel size The Springer Spaniel can weigh anywhere from 40 to 50 pounds in adulthood. In terms of height shoulder to paw pads , the Springer Spaniel is a tall dog, standing between 19 to 20 inches high. Labrador Retriever size The Labrador Retriever can weigh anywhere from 55 to 80 pounds in adulthood. In terms of height, a Lab can stand anywhere from .Springador size A Springador puppy can weigh from 40 to 80 pounds — that is quite a range to plan for! But generally speaking, the majority of Springador pups are likely to fall into the middle weight range: 45 to 65 pounds. Heightwise, a Springador dog may not vary too much from either parent, since both are tall by nature. Springador temperament In most cases, your Springador puppy will be inheriting some lovely temperament genes from each parent dog. These dogs are beloved in the sporting world for their incredible work ethic and intelligence. Springer Spaniels are known to have a strong drive to please their people and an equally strong need to be with people at all times. They are not going to fare well if left alone on a regular basis! They also need lots of activity to stay healthy and happy — this is not a dog breed that will sit happily on the couch for long. Springer Spaniels are not just great hunting dogs, but also make loving family pets. They are known to be good with kids and adults. However, if you have other vulnerable pets in the family, you might want to think twice about choosing a Springador dog, since they are bred to flush and hunt small, quick game prey! So it is no surprise that so many new hybrid dog breeds choose one parent to be a Lab, and of course the Springer x Lab mix is no exception. The Lab is known to be a very friendly family dog with a great enthusiasm for being part of your life in every way. They really love running, playing, and swimming and have a high drive to please their people. Labs are also hunting dogs, so care must be taken when socializing a Lab to accept other vulnerable family pets. However, Labs make excellent family pet dogs and are known to be great with kids. Springador temperament Here, you can see that your Springador puppy is likely to have high energy, a high prey drive, and a high need to be an ongoing part of an active family life. Springadors will not fare well if left to their own devices — they really need to be with people regardless of which parent dog a given puppy takes after most. Springador training As we just learned, both Labrador Retrievers and Springer Spaniels are high energy with a need to please. What does this mean in terms of training? It means there is good news in store for you in most cases! Springador puppies are set to inherit their parents drive, which bodes well for success with daily interactive training sessions! Although the Lab in particular can grow more sedentary in middle to late life. These dogs were born and bred to work tirelessly. Labs in particular depending on the line: English or American can be late to mature. So that adds puppy immaturity to a natural high energy level, curiosity, and intelligence. Both parent dogs enjoy:.

Our emphasis here at Box Elder Creek is on doing our very best to provide families and individuals with a quality puppy; one that is healthy, well socialized, has an outstanding well-rounded disposition and has the look of a true quality Boxer. We do not have puppies all the time, as we chose to only have a few litters per year; in doing so we are able to dedicate a lot of time, care, love, and attention to each and every one of our puppies. We know that we have a very limited amount of time before our puppies will be leaving us and joining their new families; we feel it is our responsibility to get our puppies off on a great start in life while they are here with us, this helps ensure they will be ready and able to become a valued and much loved member of their new family. Boxers make wonderful family pets, they are great with kids and have excellent temperaments, but they are not for everyone. They love to be a part of the family and enjoy any activity that involves interaction with people, be that hiking, jogging, agility, games that make them think, lounging, babysitting, learning try clicker training , patrol duty, stealing children's toys to get everyone to chase after them, they are prone to collect shoes into piles they seem to think this is an important job , re-arranging the laundry is a favorite past time Boxers are always very helpful!! Life with a Boxer is never dull!!! They are silly and very much a jokester. Please make sure a Boxer is for you before purchasing one as they will test your patience at times. If you are looking for a dog that is independent, a Boxer is not for you as their family is very important to them and they tend to want to follow you around all day long. Boxers adore their family and it is very important that they be apart of it. I also highly recommend before purchasing a Boxer that you make sure you will have the time for proper training, as lack of training is the 1 reason Boxers end up in Boxer Rescue. We are delighted to welcome you to our website and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you into our Boxer family! All Rights Reserved. Intelligent Pug Characteristics Pugs are extremely playful and love to interact with their owners. They also get along well with other animals, especially cats and other dogs. They're most known for: Friendly Easy going Health Issues Because these dogs have only been bred for a few years, there has been no study on whether there are any specific health issues being produced from these crosses. In order to get a better idea of which health problems a puppy might face, you must research the parent breeds involved, and take a look at health issues that are common to them. The average reported lifespan of these dogs is between 12 to 15 years. Boxers can be prone to cardiomyopathy , bloat, hip dysplasia , and hypothyroidism , among other possible health threats. Pugs can be prone to obesity, breathing problems , eye problems, and skin problems. Boston Terriers are prone to eye problems , heart problems, epilepsy, and skin problems. Fox Terriers can be prone to Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, patellar luxation, congenital hypothyroidism with goiter, and primary lens luxation, among other health issues. Rat Terriers can be prone to allergies, dental problems, and patellar luxation. Corgis are prone to eye problems, glaucoma , and progressive retinal atrophy. Beagles are prone to epilepsy , intervertebral disk disease, and tumbling puppy syndrome. English Bulldogs are prone to a long list of health concerns, including obesity, heat stroke, elongated soft palate , heart disease, and more. Keep in mind that a particular pup might never face one of these health issues, but the possibility could be there in the gene pool, so it's good to be aware. Are you InTheKnow? The breeding procedures used to create this mix are extremely controversial. Many " miniature " dogs have been heavily inbred, so it's not uncommon for them to develop genetic disorders or become ill at a young age, even from a reputable breeder. The miniature Boxer is also a high-energy breed that requires a hands-on owner. They aren't meant for owners with sedentary lifestyles or those who reside in apartments. Because the miniature Boxer sheds, it may not be suitable for those looking for a hypoallergenic dog breed. If you understand the cons, there are many pros to this breed. Since they are smaller than Boxers, they are less expensive to feed and easier to care for. They require slightly less exercise than the original breed and can do well in smaller spaces, even if they aren't ideal apartment dogs. This mix is family-friendly, intelligent, eager to please, and easy to train. Also, they're relatively affordable to purchase as puppies. Finding Miniature Boxer Puppies for Sale When looking for a breeder of miniature Boxers, make sure you do your due diligence. Before you decide to do business, take the time to investigate the breeder fully to make sure you'll receive exactly what you're paying for. There are many unscrupulous breeders producing designer dogs, and you want to make sure the breeder can provide a health guarantee. The breeder should demonstrate that they are breeding to create dogs with excellent health and temperament. Because these dogs are not recognized by the top registry organizations and are not bred in large numbers, you may have to search for them online as well as locally through sites such as Craigslist to see if you can locate a breeder. Cost of a Miniature Boxer Puppy Because these dogs are not popular yet, they can be relatively expensive. Dog Clubs The miniature Boxer is not a recognized breed, but it may become one as some point in the future. If you'd like to register your pet with a dog club, both the American Canine Hybrid Club and the Certified Pet Registry take registrations for various crosses that produce this type of dog. Spend Time With These Dogs Before you bring one of these pups home, spend some time at several breeders' kennels so you can get to know the dogs in person. This is the surest way to find out if a Miniature Boxer will fit your lifestyle, as well as which particular cross you prefer. Getting a puppy is a commitment for the life of the dog, so be sure about your choice. His main purpose is for hunting large game. But this dog breed was also useful in guarding and driving livestock. It is said that he got his name due to using his front paws for just about anything. Boxer dogs look intimidating with their stern-looking faces and powerful bodies. But they are actually very loving family dogs that get along with children and other animals. They love being with their families, and being separated from them can lead them to develop separation anxiety. Since this working dog is highly intelligent but stubborn in nature, he is better suited for experienced owners. The average lifespan of the breed is 9—10 years. The man responsible for the creation of the Boxer breed was Georg Alt, who was from Munich. He crossed a brindle-coloured female Bullenbeisser named Flora with a local dog of unknown breed. In , the first German Boxer dog named Flocki joined a dog show in Munich. After winning the dog show, he was the first-ever Boxer dog to be listed down in the German Studbook. Modern Boxer dogs were believed to be the descendants of Flocki. He was then imported to the United States in and was accepted by the American Kennel Club the following year. The American Boxer Club was established in .In both world wars, various military tasks were given to Boxer dogs including guard dogs, attack dogs, and messenger dogs. While some of these minis may closely resemble their larger counterparts, they may not act similarly. Are boxers hypoallergenic? Unfortunately, boxers are not hypoallergenic. What problems do Boxers have? Boxer dogs are brachycephalic, which means they have flat faces. This trait narrows their airway and causes breathing problems. As a result, Boxers should not be out in the sun for a long time as it can lead to heatstroke. Overexercising them must be avoided too to avoid triggering breathing difficulties. How long do Boxer dogs live? The Boxer dog breed has a short lifespan compared to other dogs. He can only live up to 9—10 years, and this is due to the prevalence of health issues in the breed. This will help you determine how likely is your chosen Boxer puppy going to develop certain health conditions. Camp Collins was erected during the Indian wars of the mids to protect the Overland mail route that had been recently relocated through the region. Travelers crossing the county on the Overland Trail would camp there, but a flood destroyed the camp in June .Collins, suggesting that a site several miles farther down the river would make a good location for the fort. The post was manned originally by two companies of the 11th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry and never had walls. We will not send you unnecessary notices in the future. My name is Tetyana and I am glad to welcome you on the site of the breed nursery.

By neutering this puppy you are basically destroying its future Would you consider neutering this puppy? The RSPCA spays and castrates at this age, and apparently believes it is ethically and morally acceptable to do so. As do some breeders, rescue centres and a few vets. There is a breeder in Cardiff who was called Lisa Carson now remarried and so not Carson anymore but now Lisa Joyaa Rose I would recommend that no one buys any dogs or puppies from this woman. She neuters her Labradoodle pups, both standard and minis, at six to seven weeks of age. She states it is a contractual obligation from the Australian Labradoodle Association. Simple, do not be part of an organisation that suggests this horrific practice. There are only a few members in the UK and as far as I am concerned they are barbaric animal abusers. She is not the only breeder in this country to follow this disgraceful practice. I really hope she can sleep at night. However, I know of no other breed other than Australian Labradoodle where this is happening on a regular basis. She states it is to keep the bloodline pure. Unless I am sadly mistaken, Labradoodles are not pedigree dogs, they are what is euphemistically known as mongrels. The two main kennels involved in the breeding of these dogs in Australia have apparently been discredited. And I believe are no longer operating or trading. Why is it only Australian Labradoodle breeders do this? If I was a cynic, I would say they did it to limit the number of Australian Labradoodle puppies on the market. Thereby keeping the vastly inflated prices artificially high. More profit for the breeders. How dare they? Is that why these dogs are so ludicrously priced? Some for breeding purposes have been sold for far higher amounts. Choose a puppy who has been neutered at this age at your peril. See what the leading rescue charities and the Kennel Club have to say about this disgusting practice at the bottom of this page. I wrote this article in and this woman is still peddling her bundles of misery in .Neutering is one of the reasons this is happening. See my article and Video Clips on how to stop this. In nearly all cases aggression increased with neutering in both male and female dogs. The opposite of what we have regularly been told. If they imagine that it has no effect on the young pups then why is it that my records show that early neutering is the cause of high levels of medical and behavioural problems? That and the fact that many well-known vets and oncologists are stating that dogs that are neutered early can have severe medical conditions, cancer, spay incontinence, bone, hip, and knee problem are just some of them. Welfare organisation and the Kennel Club have stated their horror at learning this was done to puppies at this age. If you are concerned about this and other aspects of health, then read this as well I have recently written about the very real dangers of Annual Vaccinations. Read this and prepare to be shocked and frightened regarding the health and well-being of your dog. The picture on the right shows a three-week-old puppy. Would you 3 weeks later, take this pup from it mum and put it through a major operation? I saw some posts on a forum recently where this breeder in Wales Lisa Carson trotted out a previous client to confirm that the dogs she bought were perfectly healthy. That client was warned by many people including myself, but still went ahead and bought these puppies. She conveniently forgot to mention that one of them has Hip Dysplasia. When it was pointed out, she said her vet said it, was because of the way it was lying in the womb. If you believe that you will believe anything. She is still defending her decision to buy puppies that were neutered at such a tender age. I wonder if they have any idea why these puppies are born with three essential hormones. Progesterone, Oestrogen and Testosterone. Do they imagine those hormones are surplus to requirements, just an inconvenient extra that has been thrown in like the Sat Nav on a car? Imagine the outcry if it was done to our children at such a sensitive period in these puppies lives. Tinkering with nature at such a young age must have a cost and consequences I believe that it has severe and life-changing effects. As a Dog Behaviourist, I see the effects these actions have on the well-being, health and behaviour of these poor dogs. I kept records of all the dogs I treated for behavioural problems post onwards. The majority of the problem dogs I treated, were neutered before they reached social and physical maturity. The amount and severity of problems I saw increased exponentially the earlier the dog was neutered It beggars belief that any organisation. To put them through a major operation at such a critical and tender age is a national disgrace. In my humble opinion, I believe it constitutes serious animal abuse. I believe these actions may contravene the Animal Welfare Act of .The bill, possibly the most important legislative move on captive and domestic animals since the Protection of Animals Act of , came into effect on 6th April .It makes owners and keepers responsible for ensuring that the welfare needs of their animals are met. These requirements include the following: The need: 1. For a suitable environment place to live 2. For a suitable diet 3. To exhibit normal behaviour patterns 4. To be housed with, or apart from, other animals if applicable 5. To be protected from pain, injury, suffering and disease I believe the RSPCA needs investigating, as I feel it may be abusing its status as a charity, by what I can only describe as intimidation. Acting as if they have official status when they have no more powers than any other member of the general public. We donate to help real cats and real dogs, NOT fat cats and dirty dogs! You could be the next innocent victim of their war on pet owners Stan Rawlinson September .Updated regularly as further information on neutering is made public. Last update July Read further articles. Castration will prevent your dog from being able to mate with a female dog, resulting in pregnancy, and it also may curtail undesirable behaviour. We also recommend that your pet is protected against lungworm before his surgery and we suggest applying Advocate treatment at least one month before his surgery is booked. Benefits of neutering a male dog Eliminates the risk of your pet developing testicular cancer, which is the second most common tumour in male dogs. This is particularly important if your dog is found to have a cryptorchid undescended testicle. Castrating your pet will prevent your pet from developing this condition. However, if during the surgery we find any abnormality of the womb, we will undertake a full OVH at no extra charge and it should be noted that this may be more likely in older pets. We also recommend that your pet is protected against lungworm before her surgery and we suggest applying Advocate treatment at least one month before the date or her surgery. Benefits of neutering a female dog Spaying your dog can reduce the chance of her developing mammary gland tumour breast cancer , the most common type of malignant tumour in female dogs. This effect is directly associated with the timing of surgery, with the maximum protective effect achieved if your dog is spayed before her first season and it has been shown that this protective effect is reduced after the first season and with each subsequent season. Spaying your dog also eliminates the risk of your pet developing an infection of the womb pyometra , a life-threatening condition that often requires emergency surgery when the patient is very ill. Pyometra is a very common condition and studies have shown that one in four unspayed female dogs will develop pyometra by the age of ten years old. Although pregnancy and whelping are natural processes, just as with humans, things can go wrong and can be dangerous for your pet. Many dogs need assisted births, which can result in large veterinary bills. Neutering eliminates the risk of accidental pregnancy and its associated health risks and costs. It also avoids the necessity of finding homes for puppies, when shelter charities already have to deal with too many unwanted dogs. Unspayed dogs will come into heat, which usually happens every six months. During this time she will be attractive to male dogs and will be pursued and harassed by them for up 10 days. Neutering will prevent your pet coming into heat and the inconvenience and difficulties of keeping her separate from male dogs. Once a female dog has had a season, she will go on to produce pregnancy hormones, whether she has been mated or not. Occasionally these signs can be severe and need veterinary treatment to resolve. When to Get a Labradoodle Spayed My Miniature Labradoodle Max wearing a stylish rain coat It has been usual practice to spay your dog as soon as the animal can endure the anesthetic in recent years. However, this raises the question- How do I know my labradoodle can handle the anesthesia? There are widespread health concerns that spaying at the wrong age can lead to the development of complications. The American Animal Hospital Association advocates that you should spay puppies between 5 and 15 months old. However, it would help if you did not take this as a definite answer. Some vets recommend spaying before first heat Usually happens when the Labradoodle is around five months , while others believe this increases the risk of breast tumors. We always recommend getting a personalized assessment from your veterinarian. If you put off getting the procedure or adopt an older, unaltered Labradoodle, you must consider her heat cycle before surgery. When your dog is in heat, your veterinarian is unlikely to propose spaying. During this time, more blood flows to the area in question, complicating the surgery. As a Labradoodle owner, you should understand that this procedure has some risks. It would be best if you talked to your veterinarian about the optimum time to perform this procedure. Spend time with your veterinarian talking about your worries and aspirations for your labradoodle. Do not be hesitant to inquire. We feel that providing your veterinarian with the most up-to-date and accurate information is the best way to determine the ideal time for spaying your labradoodle. There are numerous reasons to spay your Labradoodle, the most important is that it will improve their quality of life. To begin with, you will have a happy and healthy Labradoodle. Spaying has proved to lower the risk of breast cancer, urinary incontinence, mammary tumors, joint problems, and uterine infections. Complications that are associated with pregnancy, like dystocia , are also eliminated. You can expect the behavior of your dog to be top-notch. Spaying will ensure that you will not have to relinquish your Labradoodle due to behavioral problems like aggression towards other people. Spaying a dog reduces the risk of unappealing smell associated with a dog in heat. Lastly, it will be convenient for you. You will not have to worry about raising other puppies when your pet gives birth. How a Labradoodle Gets Spayed A veterinarian will evaluate your Labradoodle and, in most cases, run a pre-anesthetic blood test. An anesthetic will be delivered if everything goes well. Most dogs will have an intravenous catheter to provide the anesthesia and offer fluid therapy during the surgery. This tube will allow oxygen and gas anesthetics to be delivered directly into the lungs. When it comes to the actual surgery, there are two options. The vet can perform an ovariohysterectomy or an ovariectomy. An ovariohysterectomy involves removing the Labradoodles ovary and uterus. An ovariectomy only removes the ovaries. Before and During Surgery A Parti Labradoodle in this cause black and white When you finally decide to spay your dog, here is what you should do before the surgery: Ensure your Labradoodle is clean before you take her to the procedure- the cleanliness of your pet can play a role in the safety of your pet during the surgery. These precautions, among other things, assist in determining whether or not your pet is ready for the treatment. During the surgery, there will be a team of veterinarians and technicians actively monitoring your pet. Surgery Aftercare You can expect your Labradoodle to take approximately two weeks to recover after spaying. Here are some pointers to help your Labradoodle recover fast and relax comfortably after spaying. At home, allow your dog to recover in a warm, quiet space of its choosing if possible to increase comfort and reduce stress. Administer food, medication , and water as directed. Limit outdoor exposure to supervised and, if required, assisted restroom breaks for at least 24 hours after leaving the hospital. Constant movement can bring about fluid accumulation under the incision. Observe the cut for signs of infection, such as redness or swelling. Do not let your Labradoodle mess with its stitches. Your veterinarian will likely send your labradoodle home with an Elizabeth collar or dog cone alternative to ensure they do not tamper with the stitches. Depending on the stitch material used, stitches will need to be removed after seven to ten days. Your veterinarian will tell you how to verify that the incision is healing correctly and when you should return for the final check. After a given amount of time, some contemporary stitches fall out on their own. In case of any complications, feel free to contact your veterinarian. On the lower end, there are low-cost spay clinics spread across the country. These low-cost facilities lack state-of-the-art monitoring equipment, which may expose your pet to more risk. If you use a low-cost service, make sure you understand what is inclusive before and after surgery. If the low-cost program only covers the surgery, you may need to see your regular veterinarian for a follow-up session. As a general rule, price should not be the controlling factor when choosing a place to spay your Labradoodle. It would help if you treated her like you would treat a companion. Talk to your veterinarian. They will advise you accordingly on your alternatives. Can Labradoodles smile? Get Started on Spaying Your Labradoodle! Spaying is a life-altering procedure. Post by Doglistener » Sun Apr 13, am Treacletoffee wrote: I can only respond on my experiences. Toffee my male dog was castrated before I bought him six weeks it was part of the contractual deal. Toffee is the most perfect dood, always has been from pup to adulthood. Very calm has his doodle dashes and playful moments , not destructive, didn't need much training all seemed to come naturally very intelligent, wasn't one for running off perfect, very affectionate loves nothing better than to lie at you feet and be fussed. I have seen other male dogs that have been castrated at a later date, one of the things I noticed is they have a developed penis. Toffees is nearly none existent. This may sound daft as I am ignorant in this field. I was wondering is there a difference in an older dog being castrated e. I hope this makes sense Hi Treacle Toffee The results of very early neutering affects dogs in many ways and some hardly at all. May I just ask a couple of questions how old is Toffee, does he cock his leg, Does he appear leggier than most of the doodles you have seen, with a narrower head and lighter bone structure and narrowed chest. Is he active or somewhat over-calm. Does he hunt or tend to mope about. Is he interested in games and the natural inclination to hunt which is inherent in these dogs. To some extent you have described the perfect dog. But one that may not be acting as this breed should be acting. I sometimes see some of these that appear almost depressed and prone to noise. Many of the females are fearful as is some of the males. I must comment that if these breeders performed tubal ligation or vasectomy to protect their line. Then I think I could accept it more readily, as it is I would never ever buy from a breeder that insists on major surgery on a puppy of this age. I have to say that to my mind they tend to put their own livelihood first and the puppies second, I also believe they have not researched the facts and the possible negative outcomes of this practice. I am not a breeder I never have been and I never will be. But if I was, I think I would have more respect for the needs of these young dogs, and allow them to reach social and physical maturity, before putting them through the trauma of major surgery when they should still be with their litter-mates and mother. I May be wrong but I personally believe these actions may be driven by financial considerations. Once again Carole G has given a measured and intelligent response and pointed out the very real risks of this operation at such an early age, coupled with the fact that the pups immune system is not up to speed at this age, and the fact we are weakening there resistance by surgery before their initial vaccination and booster. It is a medical fact that neutering can increase the risk of an adverse reaction to vaccinations. My thoughts on vaccinations especially annually is a whole different ball game. Coupled with the fact that Hypothyroidism is far more common in early neutered dogs as is infectious diseases especially when spayed or castrated before 24 weeks. I think it is a no-brainer I believe what we should be doing is trying to insist that further scientific investigations should be performed, but in the meantime whilst we are awaiting these results which could take some time then we make our voice be known that this practice should cease until further scientific and peer reviewed clinical investigations have been completed. Which will refute these finding or confirm them. It stops excessive and unacceptable sexual behaviour towards bitches, people and inanimate objects Medically it prevents testicular tumours and reduces the possibility of perianal adenoma or prostatic hyperplasia. Surgical Suit I recommend a surgical suit for a female recovery. For males a surgical suit can also be worn or a pair of boys underwear with the 'hole' for the tail. This is to ensure the breed is developed properly by committed breeders. Young dogs recover quickly from the neuter procedure wanting to play, eat and toilet, and with non of the negative effects seen on older dogs. It is a well known and accepted fact that neutering your pet is a good idea. Neutered dogs make better pets, they are less aggressive and because they are not driven to find a mate, they are more focused on you. They are also found to be much healthier with a lower risk of reproductive disorders and many cancers. Better-behaved pets. Neutered pets rarely scent mark, roam and fight. Majority of bites involve un-neutered dogs. Healthier pets. Females spayed before their first heat season are at much less risk of breast cancer, a common cause of death. They have no risk of uterine infection, or phantom pregnancy, or the many complications associated with seasons, pregnancy, whelping or raising a litter. Mortality rate is minimal and complications occur less. It completely eliminates the possibility of accidental litters or even intentional breeding by uneducated owners or worse case by puppy farmers. It allows the best puppies to continue to further the breed with the focus on temperament and health. The bottom line is fewer unwanted pets, and fewer ill-bred dogs.

labradoodle puppies for sale in rochester mn - What might a German Shepherd Labradoodle mix look like? Although this sounds like the start of a bad joke, this mix of these two popular breeds does exist. But because we are talking about a mix between two breeds of dogs, it is difficult to know the exact balance of traits you will get. After all, any type of breeding is a bit like a lottery! This is a truly unique breed combination, bringing a tendency to be hardworking, intelligent, and active all in one dog. This dog has been bred to work as a service dog, police dog, or even a herding dog. It has been proven to be an extremely loyal family dog that will never stop loving its owner. As we said earlier, pairing these two breeds together results in a hard-working dog that is both intelligent and loyal, with excellent skills to allow it to be a service or police dog. German Shepherds were originally bred in Germany and were used for a wide range of intensive work, but their primary use was herding cattle for farmers. These dogs are extremely hardworking, making them a popular choice for police dogs. With a great sense of smell and undying loyalty, they are the perfect dogs to smell out drugs, find criminals, and protect their owners. They have also been used for service dogs. Their patient, thoughtful, and helpful demeanor has made them perfect for assisting disabled people, and their sharp senses make them apt to protect them from danger at the same time. Often used to assist those who are blind or motor impaired, a properly trained German Shepherd will improve the functionality of their owner by a large margin. As far as appearance goes, German Shepherds are medium to large dogs that stand as high as 26 inches at the shoulder. They have triangular ears and more narrow heads, with thick coats that come in fairly uniform coloring. Their coats are a mix of light brown or tan areas and dark brown areas, with their snouts typically being dark brown to black in color. Originating from Newfoundland, Canada, this breed of dog was bred for the single purpose of waterfowl hunting. They assisted their owners in hunting ducks, geese, swans, or other small or large waterfowl that may otherwise be difficult to hunt. Due to their intelligence and high level of motor skill, they have since become great service dogs. Much like a German Shepherd, their patience, persistence, and intelligence make them some of the best service dogs around. Beyond these qualities, they are also known to be high-spirited, friendly, and outgoing dogs that are perfect pets for the family. They are great with children and have high energy, making them great for playing with. As far as appearance goes, these dogs are medium to large in size, standing 21 to 24 inches high at the shoulder and weighing between 55 to 80 pounds. Their coat is dense and comes in a few different colors, including yellow, black, and dark chocolate brown. With heads that are typically wide, their eyes shine with kindness, and their thick tapered tails are nearly always wagging. These are great dogs for owners who wish to stay physically fit, as they love to run, jump, and are also excellent swimmers due to their original breeding. Appearance The German Shepherd Labradoodle mix usually weighs from 50 to pounds when fully grown, their differences in size being attributed to the sizes of their parents. Standing at 20 to 28 inches at the shoulder, their height can also vary for the same reasons. Their coats are medium-long in length and will either inherit the wavy hair of their German Shepherd parent or the curlier hair of their Labradoodle parent. The coloring of their coats can be a mix of black, cream, gray, tan, or sable, giving them a beautiful and unique coloring. German Shepherd Labradoodles have heads that are somewhat wide, taking after the Lab parent, though their heads can also be narrower like their German Shepherd parent. Their paws are large and their legs more on the muscular side, as far as dog legs go. Personality This mix has high energy and the courage of the German Shepherd that is their parent. They also have a very loving and loyal nature, making them great lifelong companions. Because of its lineage, a dog of this breed will be highly intelligent, a trait that will enable them to learn and be trained much faster than other breeds. They will be ready to learn a wide array of skill and commands that not all breeds are capable of learning. Because of this propensity for intelligence and learning, they make fantastic service dogs. It is also a great family dog, as we said earlier. So, these dogs may not be the best option for owners who may be gone long periods of time for work or travel on a regular basis.
