Next up is another thing to do before you bring your puppy home… How To Puppy Proof Your House When puppy-proofing your house, think like a puppy. Crawl around on the floor and take note of what you see. Puppies will chew nearly anything, so make sure that there are no valuables down at puppy-height, or things that could be poisonous to them or be a choking hazard. Make sure there are no open cabinets or pantries where your puppy could get into food. Be careful of small trash cans that could hold some smelly trash that would be enticing to a puppy. And finally, next are a few other random tasks to do before you bring home your new puppy. Getting a golden retriever puppy? Check out the Golden Retriever Puppy Handbook! Not exactly. Find a vet. Find the closest emergency animal hospital. This is not something you want to wait until you need it before looking it up and making a plan. Find a list of local poisonous plants and animals. Talk to your vet and do some research so that you know which plants and animals to avoid. Find a puppy kindergarten class. This will help with training, socialization, and general learning how to be a puppy parent. Check your yard or house for any escape routes. This next section will cover everything from what to expect with a puppy, what to do the first 24 hours of bringing them home, how to train them, and more. A week after bringing Oliver home, it was very obvious to me why she asked me that. Puppies are hard work! Their little bladders can only hold it for a few hours, so this is expected. Chewing Puppies will try to chew any and everything. Like every thirty minutes often. Now, for the most important expectation of them all… You will miss puppyhood! Yes, you will miss the sleepless nights and puppy bites. So make sure to take lots of videos and pictures. How would you like to be treated in this situation? Here are some tips to help your puppy get comfortable in their new home. Let your puppy make decisions When you get to your house, set them at your open front door and let them choose to walk inside. Let them explore their new home on their own terms. Letting them make decisions can give them a sense of confidence, hope, and control, and ease into their new home. Limit visitors Now is the time to build the bond with your puppy and let them get to know you, not overstimulate them with a lot of people. Limit their access to your home Getting used to a new home with two rooms will be a lot easier than getting used to a new home with five rooms. Only let your puppy have access to a few rooms so that they get acclimated to their new area quicker, then as they get more comfortable you can allow them to explore new areas of the house. You can use baby gates to restrict access to sections of the house. Bonus benefit: this will also decrease the chances that they leave you a present in the guest room. In general, just keep things low key when you bring them home and let them get used to their surroundings. Training Your Golden Retriever Puppy Training your golden retriever puppy is one of the best things you can do both for them and with them. They have short attention spans and like to have fun, so short training sessions and training games work best. A lot of people think that training is just obedience training, like sit and stay , but it also includes life skills like crate training , potty training , how to not jump on people or bite them, and how to not pull on the leash. Socialization Socialization is something that is not talked about as much as it should be. It can help mitigate fear and aggression and help them become confident, well-adjusted adult dogs. You can socialize your puppy with other dogs by setting up play dates with gentle dogs that you know are vaccinated and by going to puppy kindergarten. Dog to other living beings includes humans, cats, and other animals. You can socialize them with other people by taking them to a pet-friendly store like home depot, and you can socialize them to other animals by taking a walk by the neighborhood cat with lots of distance between them, so neither animal gets overwhelmed. Dog to stuff is the broadest category, but no less important. When Oliver was very young we were on a walk and a FedEx truck drove by. He had never heard a big truck like that and was terrified. So make sure that your puppy is comfortable with trucks, cars, the garage door, buses, umbrellas, and whatever other objects they may encounter. For instance, if you live in Chicago, get them used to trains, buses and crowded streets. Every day, separate out five special treats for your puppy. For example, you might let your neighbor give your puppy a treat, or maybe you take your puppy to a bus stop and when the bus goes by you give them a treat, or maybe you introduce them to a cow and give them a treat. The treat helps them have a positive experience with these new things and people, plus it helps you easily remember to expose them to lots of these new things. Do this for the first four weeks of their life and before you know it, your puppy will have been exposed to new dogs, people, things, or environments, and will be well on their well to becoming a well-adjusted adult dog. Puppy Raising Mistakes Below are some mistakes that new puppy owners make that could make it harder to train and raise their puppy into a happy, confident adult. Not remembering how young they are Puppies are like little toddlers. Waiting to train your puppy until they have a problem Training your puppy before they have any behavior problems will make life so much easier for you. Forcing things too quickly Things like crate training and potty training take time. Setbacks hurt more than stretching their limits will help, so be patient and take things slowly. Conclusion Golden retriever puppies might just be the best living beings on the planet. However, they are a lot of work and can be quite naughty sometimes. Have any questions about golden retriever puppies? Let me know in the comments below! And if you know someone who is thinking about getting a golden retriever puppy, please share this with them. The good news is that you can start training your baby golden retriever as soon as he is home with you. This link will take you to a step-by-step guide on potty training and crate training a golden retriever puppy. Socialization As a dog trainer I get asked many questions about dog behavior and training. In this photo Samsom is being socialized to babies and also to people putting their hands in his food bowl. Always add something yummy! Unfortunately, this period is very short and closes at 3 months of age. This means you have about 4 weeks to socialize your puppy to people of all sizes, genders, colors, ages, with costumes, hats, umbrellas; dogs of all sizes, colors, ages; cars, buses, trucks, loud noises, water, hair trimming, nail trimming, etc. Take your pup to a golden retriever training and socialization class that uses only positive methods. The first four weeks with your new golden retriever pup should be the busiest ones, follow this link for a detailed list and guide on how to socialize your new baby dog. It is natural and completely normal. The good news is that you can teach them to control the pressure they make with their mouth until mouthing turns into soft kisses. Follow this link for a how-to-guide. Playing with a puppy's mouth is a great way to teach him to how control his teeth. Finally, you can also start golden retriever training obedience commands, since puppies can learn very fast many things but you need to concentrate your attention on the three topics above, because they are key factors to help your puppy become a friendly and social dog, one you can trust and trusts you. Teaching your kids to train your Golden Retriever puppy is a grat way for them to bond. Sit and stay! Do not give up. Then repeat 3 more times. This is classic adolescence behavior and may start happening when your golden is between months. Just like humans, dogs also have an adolescence period, and just like humans, they like to test boundaries. During this time it is very important that you continue training basic obedience commands: Take your golden retriever dog to an obedience class that uses positive methods only!

Labradoodles are smart, loving, child-friendly dogs. They have light to non-shedding, allergy-friendly coats, and they do not have the dog smell associated with other breeds. They are highly trainable, fun loving, family companions. Labradoodles also come in miniature, medium, and standard sizes. We breed all sizes of labradoodles, but concentrate mostly on mini labradoodles and medium labradoodles with an ocassional litter of large standard size labradoodles. He is sweet, silly, snuggly, and ridiculously cute. He is just about everything that is good in a dog. Petey loves to entertain himself and others with his playful attitude and his puppy-like antics. He loves to start each day with a happy morning wiggle dance, and he will perform encores throughout the day. Petey is an affectionate fellow. He only gives occasional kisses, but loves to get close to you; nuzzle you; lean; poke at you with his front feet as boxers do; and when he is feeling silly which is often! He is accustomed to sleeping in bed with a person and snuggling all night. Truthfully, he can get away without it inside the home because he is an easy, good boy to live with! However, he is overly excited out in the world, on walks, in the car, and seeing new people and animals, so he would benefit from some guidance to help him behave calmly in those situations. At this point, meeting people is extremely exciting, but meeting dogs is just too overwhelming for him to handle. Petey had a dramatic entrance into rescue, as he was pulled from the shelter while he was suffering from bloat a medical emergency fatal within hours. Pulling a dog in critical condition, when we know the cost will be tremendous and a good outcome far from guaranteed, requires a leap of faith. The shelter vet bought Petey time by puncturing his stomach to decompress the gas that was building up. Within an hour of first being contacted by the shelter, a flurry of communication had occurred, an NCBR volunteer darted to the shelter, delivered Petey to an emergency vet, and Petey was being prepped for surgery. But we are overjoyed to say that Petey made it through surgery and is now recovering in the hospital. Petey Donor Spotlight: Doreen Murotsune For many of us who give our hearts, time, or dollars to rescue, we are first inspired by the love of a single special dog. Hana belonged to friends of Doreen, but Doreen and her boxer, Benjamin, fell in love with her. Benjamin and Hana were best friends, and Benjamin was always on the lookout for Hana and ready to protect her from any yappy Chihuahua who tried to intimidate her. In addition to being an active Strut Your Mutt teammate for each of the past 5 years, Doreen browses the boxers in our care and sponsors many dogs whose stories warm her heart. She not only sponsors dogs with single or repeat financial gifts, but also inquires about dogs with prescription diet needs and then purchases those diets on an autoship schedule, having the food mailed directly to foster homes. Mix the two breeds, and you get the best of both worlds! Great family pets These hybrids make incredibly loyal pets that are a great choice for families with children as well as elderly owners who want a loving companion dog that is well-suited for a relaxed and comfortable lifestyle. .They are loyal and protective of their families, making them excellent watchdogs. At the same time, they are gentle and patient with children. Their gentle nature and loyal personalities make them an excellent addition to any family. They were bred for bull-baiting Originally bred in England, these dogs were used for bull-baiting, a popular sport that involved pitting a dog against a bull. But then bull-baiting became illegal However, in bull-baiting was outlawed in England and so the English Bulldog faced the very real possibility of becoming extinct. Fortunately, they were very popular in England and so they were then bred to be gentle, affectionate, and even-tempered companion dogs, instead of dangerous guard dogs. English Bulldogs are Gentle Giants In fact, despite their fierce appearance, these kind-hearted dogs made wonderful guardians for young children! They have a calm and patient temperament and are very loyal to their families. English Bulldogs were first recognized by the American Kennel Club in the s, and today they remain one of the most popular breeds in the United States. .They still have some health issues While they still have some health issues due to their breeding history, breeders have worked to reduce these problems and produce healthy and happy dogs. In the early s, English lace workers who were displaced by the Industrial Revolution moved to France and brought with them their Toy Bulldogs. These bulldogs were crossed with Parisian Ratters. The resulting breed was the French Bulldog, which became a favorite of the Parisian elite. The Frenchie we love today They were originally bred by crossing English Bulldogs and Parisian ratters to create the ionic Frenchie that we all know and love today. Their flat faces can lead to breathing problems, and they may also be prone to hip dysplasia and allergies. Frenchies are popular Did you know that Frenchies are the 2 most popular dog breed according to the American Kennel Club?! They are loved for their affectionate nature, playful personality, and adaptability to city living. You see Frenchies everywhere nowadays — it seems like everybody has one. Everybody seems to have a Frenchie nowadays.Check out the most famous celebrities that have Frenchies! However, in modern times, the explosion in the popularity of the French Bulldog English Bulldog Mix led to numerous breeders mixing the two breeds during the s in America. They have a unique type of rolling gait when they walk and although you should expect quite a bit of variation in any hybrid, the French Bulldog English Bulldog Mix always has a stubby nose and a square-shaped head. A fully grown French Bulldog English Bulldog Mix stands at around 13 to 15 inches at the shoulders and can weigh anywhere between 28 to 55 pounds. They have a short coat that comes in a wide range of colors and can have either floppy or pointy ears. This is largely due to their short muzzles and generations of breeding. This means that a French Bulldog English Bulldog Mix will also tend to be susceptible to similar types of health problems. Frenchie Health Guide An in-depth guide on nearly every health problem affecting Frenchies. Learn about Frenchie Health Lifespan French Bulldogs have a life expectancy of 10 to 12 years whereas an English Bulldog has a life expectancy of around 10 years. Consequently, a French Bulldog English Bulldog Mix has a life expectancy of between 10 to 12 years, although in some cases they can live well into their teens Common Health Problems. For fans of all types of Bulldogs, crossing a French Bulldog with an English Bulldog might seem like a good way to get the best of both breeds. But is it a good idea? When you cross two different dog breeds like the French Bulldog English Bulldog mix, the result is called a hybrid. The practice of mixed breeding comes with plenty of controversy. Hybrid vigor means the improvements in form and reduction in inherited disease associated with crossbreeding. However, many other people believe that controlled breeding and genetic testing are the best way to reduce the risk of genetic defects. Origins In 13th Century England, bullbaiting was a popular sport. In order to fight staked bulls, these dogs were ferocious with huge jaws. When bullbaiting was outlawed in , the Bulldog faced extinction. Fans of the breed began the long process of transforming the vicious bruiser into a companion dog with a sweet, mellow disposition. In the mids, a toy Bulldog that weighed about 12 to 25 pounds became popular, particularly with lacemaking artisans around Nottingham. When the industry relocated to northern France, toy Bulldogs made the journey as well. Their thick-set, well-muscled physique with wide shoulders and sturdy limbs are equally unmistakable. Even their characteristic rolling gait is distinctive. They stand just 14 to 15 inches, and males can weigh up to 50 pounds. Their short smooth coat is glossy, and comes in a variety of colors and patterns. They are considerably smaller than the English Bulldog, standing 11 to 13 inches and weighing under 28 pounds. However, since these two dogs are quite similar and have a shared history, the appearance will be a little more predictable. You can expect a medium-sized dog with an athletic build and short fur. Their heads will be square and oversized, the muzzle short, and ears can be erect or floppy. Despite their violent history and surly appearance, the English Bulldog is not prone to aggression. These breeds do have some differences. The English Bulldog has kept his propensity for courageousness, which makes for a good watchdog. The Frenchie was bred to be a lapdog, opting to play and be pampered. Both, however, can have a stubborn streak. Training Your Dog Puppies are likely to want to urinate at certain times of the day, so following a potty training schedule is a good way to reduce the number of accidents. Crate training will also help with bladder and bowel control. Despite being stubborn, the French Bulldog English Bulldog mix is also a people-pleaser, which can help with training. As with all breeds, early socialization and positive reinforcement training techniques from a young age is the best way to ensure your puppy develops into a well-adjusted adult. Moderate exercise consisting of minute daily walks will suffice for this breed. Extreme weather has a big impact on their health. Brachycephalic breeds have a tendency to overheat. They should never exert themselves in hot or humid weather because their short muzzle can make breathing very difficult. They should never be left in the sun without access to shade and water. Pools are hazards for this hybrid too, as they cannot swim. Their short legs and stocky bodies mean stairs should also be avoided to reduce the risk of back problems. Health Issues Often mixing two different breeds is a way to reduce the chance of inherited health problems. In the case of the French Bulldog English Bulldog Mix, both parent breeds share some serious health and conformation problems. Which makes them more, not less likely in their puppies. Brachycephaly Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome refers to the effects that a flat muzzle has on the respiratory system. Signs of this condition include snoring, panting, overheating, exercise intolerance and gastrointestinal problems. Over time, these symptoms can worsen and cause permanent damage. Surgery is often required to allow normal respiration. Their wide-set protruding eyes are prone to eye disorders such as corneal ulcers , which can potentially cause blindness. Dental problems are also a result of their conformation. Because they have the same amount of teeth as any dog—with less space to fit them—tooth decay is also quite common. It causes intervertebral disc disease IVDD and other spinal malformations. Both the French and English Bulldogs are predisposed to screw tail. This condition can also cause severe back problems. In some cases, it can impact anal glands. You will need to check the tail area every time your puppy poops to keep him clean and avoid infection. Grooming and Feeding The short, smooth coat of the French Bulldog English Bulldog mix is fairly low maintenance, requiring an all-over brushing once or twice a week. They will do best with a high-quality, age-appropriate dog food. As both parents are prone to obesity, be mindful of calorie consumption. Being overweight exasperates conformational issues such as joint and back problems.

On average, the Jug dog lifespan is 12 to 15 years. Want more information? Jack Russell Pug breeders One of the main reasons why there is a growing interest in designer dog breeds is because of the concept of hybrid vigor. This concept supposedly creates a new and healthier mixed dog like Jack Russell Pug with the hope of reducing the illnesses and other issues that are associated with purebred parents. Aside from DNA testing, the Jack Russell Pug breeders should also provide buyers with a puppy warranty, usually for 30 days or longer. In case the puppy of your choice gets sick, you should be given an option of whether to exchange the pup or have the breeder pay for all the vet expenses. They thoroughly screen the breeders they advertise on their site, making sure that no illegal practices are being done to the dogs. Try Douglas Hall Kennels douglashallkennels. They provide families with proper guidance and education about Retro Pugs in preparation for their pets. They are a rescue organization that are committed to giving love and attention to Retro Pugs and purebred Pugs until they find a new home. Jug puppies Take your time when choosing a Jug puppy. The Jack Russell Pug Mix puppies should approach you with wagging tails. They should play with you, perhaps tug your shoelace or pants and even crawl into you. Then evaluate the Jack Russell x Pug puppies one by one. To know which among the Pug Jack Russell Mix puppies have an easygoing personality, they would normally request belly rubs from strangers. You can also try rolling the Pug and Jack Russell Mix puppies on their backs. It is also highly recommended that even before bringing your new Jug puppy home, you should puppy proof your house. It is also a good idea to already have his supplies rolled out such as a chew-proof dog bed , a crate, water and food bowls, a retractable dog leash , and a collar. Sheds a lot. Tends to bark a lot. Comes in a variety of colors. Can be stubborn. JackPug Description The Jug is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Jack Russell Terrier and the Pug. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of thecharacteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. She takes after the JRT and is very high energy and very intelligent. Jugs should have access to a fenced yard as they love to run and dig. They will chase squirrels , rabbits, etc. He has lots of curiosity and play drive, but is equally interested in lap time with Mommy. He also enjoys time with our other mixed breed dog Terra whose mother was a purebred Golden Retriever and we believe a black Lab father. In Ollie's case, he requires a lamb and rice dog food, and I must ensure no one gives him anything with pork in it. I love watching Cesar Millan's the Dog Whisperer and have taken lots of tips from the show in regards to being the pack leader. I was a dog trainer with the local county 4-H program and have been around all types of breeds for many years; Cesar's principals are phenomenal. Ollie can have an attitude when he does not get what he wants when he wants it, so I really do have to use the firm assertive-dominant role with him. He has a super high drive to watch for squirrels and chipmunks and will bark very aggressively toward them. I sometimes let him outside on the enclosed deck to chase them away, HA HA. He thinks it's great. I also developed a toy that he really has a drive to play with; it is a hard plastic ball, large enough not to get stuck in his jaws which can really be strong and it has two metal ball bearings inside it. I let him chase it all over the 1st floor of our home. I just close off sections with lots of places for it to get stuck. I also have the main play area pretty well ball proofed. If it gets stuck somewhere he will usually come and get me but you have to keep an eye or an ear out for him since he takes out his frustration on anything nearby. This includes extension cords, patio door blinds or the ottoman. Having consistency on the rules of good behavior during playtime keeps the house from being taken over by this little character. So overall, this breed is a joy to have around. He is my constant companion, loves attention from anyone and of course thinks he's the best. I really fell in love with his looks on first sight but his personality has truly taken my heart. She can do that and she can stand and spin in a circle. She loves kids and other animals; she has never hurt a fly. She loves everyone. Her name is Zoey. She was the only white Jug out of the litter. We love her very much. Bugs is four months old. His mom is a Jack Russell Terrier and his dad is a Pug. My husband bought Bugs for me as a Christmas present. Bugs is wonderful and smart, however he demands a lot of attention and exercise. When we are not working we walk Bugs a couple of miles a day. When working, we take him with us and walk him every time we are on a break. He wasn't too difficult to housebreak.I took him to the vet yesterday for his final puppy series and first rabies. He may be a small dog, but he has a big dog attitude. He fears nothing. Bugs is so very sweet. He is very affectionate, but enjoys roughhousing as well. He sometimes bites when playing and we are working on that. He does not like to be told "No. When you tell him No, he looks at you quizzically and then barks at you to express his annoyance. I love him and he is awesome. He loves going through drive-throughs at restaurants where people will tell him how adorable he is. Although, he is very hyper Jack Russell. I got Nugly when he was 3 months old from a pet store. It only took me 2 weeks to have him housebroken and 3 weeks to have him sitting, lying down on command and giving me paw. He is very intelligent. She can be quite greedy and has the tenacity of a Jack Russell Terrier. She loves to play and has been complimented on how placid she is around people. She has been a great delight to have in our home. Tootie is extremely intelligent and energetic. It was love at first sight with her and my son 4 years old. Everywhere we take her we are literally stopped by people off the street because she is just sooo CUTE. At times she can be sneaky and tries to get away with things she should not be doing. She fits in well with my kids. We love Tootie very much!

We are so fortunate to have such great families for our puppies. We have recently lowered the price of our puppies to reflect the New Zealand market at the moment. We will re-evaluate later in the year. So a great time to get your puppy. Your new family pet and best mate is right here. Elton has a black and white non shedding coat and will be about 10kg when an adult, so on the smaller side, just perfect for the family wanting their dog to pop in the car and go everywhere with them. No doubt he will offer plenty of fun and joy to his new family. Elton is ready now. Feel free to get in touch if you are ready for a puppy to join you and yours. Meet Sash, one of our Blonde Bombshells Sash, a labradoodle, is available, now 20 months old and ready to sprinkle her own special love to her new family. She has had a great life living with us playing in the paddock or down at the estuary. Now darling Sash needs another wonderful family to go through life with. She is around .She loves touch, so is prone to getting snuggles wherever possible. Sash gets on well with other dogs and enjoys a playmate to have some fun with. She loves to run. A medium energy level, she is intelligent, loves to be involved, she is a loving girl, quirky and people focused. Sash has not been around young children so she may not suit a young family. Sash was to be part of our Guardian breeding programme however her hips are not at the standard we need for breeding. The vets comment on this is there is no expectation of her having any issues with her hips. Sash is desexed. Coco and Walters litter Born 24th August, leave us at 8 weeks of age, 19th October. Coco is a happy, affectionate, easy going girl, who loves her family, particularly loves her walks, good with children, and Walter adores his cuddles, is cheeky, intelligent and genial. A good balance of playfulness and energy, happy to chill when everyone else is, or be the fluffy bundle on your lap, he is a lapdog with attitude. We expect the puppies will be clever, cuddly and people focused with a medium energy level. Absolutely thriving on their mums milk they are now quite chunky, in a week or so their eyes and ears will slowly open and then life changes. All very exciting! These babies will be medium in size, around kg and cm to the shoulder, all have non shedding coats and are absolute treasures. We have a black a male available in this litter. Seven months old with a beautiful coat, she will be a big girl, as now already 25kg. Frida, a labradoodle is affectionate, gentle and goofy, interested in life and she is sociable, playing well with other dogs. She loves to lie on the couch with her head on your lap for cuddles and most of the time she is calm and content. She also loves people and wants to be best friends with everyone she meets. She loves her walks and off-leash runs in the paddock and zoomies round the garden. Frida is doing really well and knows many commands. Frida is clever and strong however she is jumping up and can pull on her lead, she needs someone who has experience training dogs. Being a larger girl, and strong, Frida could potentially pull her owner off their feet, so her excitement for life needs to be carefully worked with. We are looking for someone to adore this girl, who can put the time and the energy in so she can blossom. Due to her jumping we will not place her where there are children, even though she would love them. Please get in touch if you are interested. While spearheading the Royal Guide Dogs Association of Australia breeding program, he conducted the crossbreeding of a standard poodle and Labrador retriever in view of it being a hypoallergenic guide dog for blind people. The first example of this type of dog, called Sultan, went to live with a lady in Hawaii, where other breeders saw him as an inspiration and this is how Australian Labradoodle puppies started. Both the International Australian Labradoodles Association and the Australian Labradoodles Association of America are working hard to incorporate more intergenerational breeding so these dog breeders can register this type of dog as a purebred dog. Its gentle, obedient and intelligent personality combined with a hypoallergenic coat make it ideal for family members with allergies, but it also makes an excellent service or therapy dog. Labradoodle Puppies Lifespan When properly taken care of, healthy dogs tend to live anywhere from 10 to 13 years. The lifespan of our Labradoodle puppies for sale is slightly above average at 12 to 14 years. Here are the life stages of multigenerational Australian Labradoodles: Puppyhood: First five months Adolescence: Between five months and two years Adulthood: Between two and three years Middle age: Between seven years and 10 years Senior: Over 10 years Labradoodles need the most attention and care in the first and last stages of their life. During puppyhood, their minds are highly impressionable, which is ideal for training. During their senior years, Labradoodles are more susceptible to health problems, which means owners need to keep a watchful eye. Labradoodle Size The size of labradoodle puppies for sale directly relates to the size of their parents and which generation of breed Labradoodle breeders chose. The larger the puppies, the larger the adult dog will be, and the faster their growth will be coming out of the puppy stage. A standard labradoodle puppy will weigh from pounds by the time it reaches two months of age. By a year old, it will have grown dramatically to up to 80 pounds, depending on the size of its parents. Medium Labradoodles occupy a spectrum of sizes between standard and mini Labradoodles, with the specifics depending heavily on the details of the breeding pair that birthed them and the breeding program they come from. Labradoodle Puppies Temperament While Labradoodle breeders originally bred the Australian Labradoodles as therapy dogs, their fun, friendly personalities made them popular pets. Now you can find these sociable dogs in homes across the globe. Here are some of the top personality traits of our Labradoodle puppies for sale. They tend to do best in active households where they can work off all that pent-up energy. You can fulfill their needs through the following activities: Walks or jogs: Labradoodles make great walking companions and can even keep up with you during a jog. Playing in the yard: Enjoy a game of fetch with your furry friend in the yard or just let it loose on its own. Dog sports: If you stay active through sports, consider making your labradoodle a part of your routine. Bring it on bike rides, go for a run together or kick a ball around in the yard. Obstacle courses: Set up an obstacle course for your dog using household items. Scavenger hunt: Creating a scavenger hunt for your canine is a great way to exercise its body and brain. In general, Labradoodles need anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes of exercise a day. You can also enroll them later at a Labradoodle puppy alumni school for proper training. Friendliness What makes Labradoodles the perfect puppy compare to other dog breeds is their ability to get along with just about anyone. They inherit this trait from their Labrador retriever parent, a breed also known for its outgoing nature. You can trust your labradoodle to form friendships with everyone, from children and older adults to strangers and other puppies. Thanks to their affectionate, sociable personalities, Labradoodles make great pets for first-time owners, families, or anyone looking for a companion. Intelligence Thanks to their poodle parent breeds, Labradoodles are incredibly intelligent dogs. Because Labradoodles are intelligent, they often crave mental stimulation. Labradoodle Puppies Grooming Our Labradoodle puppies for sale have a variety of coat textures that dog owners enjoy, but in general, their low shedding coat needs brushing at least twice a week. Not only does this keep them tangle-free but it also removes excess debris from their coat, keeping them fresh and hygienic. Regularly trim the hair around their eyes and in between their paws to prevent these problem areas from causing irritation. Pooches with fleece coats tend to have longer fur and benefit the most from going to a professional groomer — although every dog loves getting pampered once in a while. Pride and Prejudoodles is here to help. We hope you found our guide informative. Please contact us with any other questions you have about our Labradoodle puppies for adoption. The Labrador Retriever is an active, friendly, loving dog who thrives on human companionship, wanting nothing more than to please their owners except perhaps eat and jump in any water they can find! They are ideal pets where there are children about and they get on well with other household animals. Labradors are a very happy breed, extremely affectionate, constantly wagging their tails and always on the go. They are easily trained, being eager to learn and to please and can turn their paw to just about anything. They are total foodies however - which helps with their training but not their waistlines! The Poodle is a lively, sociable and affectionate dog who is both intelligent and amusing, and makes a wonderful and fun companion. They love to be included in all family pursuits and can be good watch dogs, announcing visitors but never being aggressive. The Standard Poodle is still at heart a working dog and can easily be the start of your training class, your agility group or in the obedience ring - and thrive with a job to do where they can work with their owner. It is clear however from looking at the two breeds that make up the Labradoodle that this is an extremely active dog who needs a lot of exercise and input often more than many new owners expect - and being highly social, needs to be a part of the family. The personality of a Labradoodle seems to be more consistent when they are first crosses F1. As a line is successively bred, they can be either bred back to one of the original breeds and so strengthen either the Labrador or the Poodle personalities or else be bred to another Labradoodle - in which case there is less predictability in temperament and in-breeding becomes more of a potential issue. Responsible breeders should be prioritising behaviour as highly as health and so it is important to find a good breeder. She chose Australia because the animal health arrangements meant that a dog bred there could come straight into her home in Hawaii without having to spend time in quarantine. The Association were already using Labradors as guide dogs, and so they needed to cross one with a non-shedding breed. They imported a white Standard Poodle from Sweden that had excellent working bloodlines - and the first intentional Labradoodle litter was born. Since then they have been bred - both responsibly and irresponsibly - in the quest to find a friendly, non-shedding family dog. This has been done with varying degrees of success - and indeed some Labradooodles have excelled as assistance dogs around the world, and those who are enamoured of them hail them as the perfect large companion dog as long as they get enough exercise! The two breeds that go into the formation of the Labradoodle are the Labrador Retriever and the Standard Poodle. They were trained to bring in the fishing nets through the icy waters for the fishermen and, in the early 19th century, were brought to Poole Harbour in Great Britain. Due to their lovely personality the fishermen started getting offers from Englishmen to buy them. The breed also had working abilities which made them instantly successful as a gundog. The Earl of Malmesbury became fascinated by these dogs, known at that time as Saint John's Dogs, and he started breeding them, calling them Labrador Dogs. Today Labradors are still used as working gundogs as well as being beloved family pets. While keeping the vital organs and joints protected, much of the rest of their hair was shaved off. The Labradoodle can have any combination of the two breeds in their appearance, behaviour and temperament. Health and Common Issues One aim with crossbreeds is to dilute or eliminate any inherited health issues that may exist within one or other of the breeds. This dilution or elimination is only likely if only one parent is the carrier of any particular condition, and where this is a first cross F1. Some Labradoodle clubs also suggest that there are several potential health issues, and affected dogs should not be bred from and where possible relevant testing should be done : Progressive retinal atrophy. They were good guide dogs, Conron says, but the hopeful service dog owners on his waiting list didn't want them because they weren't purebred. Calls from around the world started coming in for Conron to breed more - and not just from people seeking guide dogs. The Labradoodle was first bred not for its cute face or scruffy hair, but to solve a problem. Many genetic deformities do not become apparent until the dog is older, resulting in unsuspecting buyers facing substantial vet bills and heartbreaking decisions. Thousands of dogs find their way to shelters every year in New Zealand. From miniature toy breeds to St Bernards. The members listed here are registered breeders in good standing with the Worldwide Australian Labradoodle Association. That's still Conron's biggest concern. Today, the Toy Poodle is one of the most popular breeds of dogs in America. Standard versus Toy poodles When it comes to Toy poodles , there are two main types: Standard and Toy. Standard poodles are the larger of the two, standing at 15 inches or more at the shoulder. Toy poodles, on the other hand, are a smaller breed, with most adults only reaching 10 inches in height. Size is the most obvious difference between standard and toy poodles. Standard poodles are also bred to be working dogs, while toy poodles were originally bred as companion animals. This means that standard poodles tend to have a higher energy level and require more exercise than their toy counterparts. Another difference between these two breeds is their coat. Standard poodles have a thick, dense coat that requires regular grooming, while toy poodles have a softer, lighter coat that is easier to care for. Finally, price is another factor that sets standard and toy poodles apart. Standard poodles cost more than toy poodles, due in part to their size and also because they are less common. They come in three sizes: Standard, Miniature, and Toy. Standard Toy Poodles are the largest of the three and can weigh up to 18 pounds. Miniature Toy Poodles are smaller, weighing between 6 and 9 pounds. Toy Poodles are the smallest of the three and only weigh 4 pounds or less. Next, think about what coat colour you would like your Toy Poodle to have. They come in many different colours including black, white, brown, cream, apricot, red, silver, grey, blue, and more. By consuming too much food, your puppy will have elevated levels of the very nutrients that should be limited. Additionally, overweight puppies may develop other health issues such as diabetes and heart disease. Good eating habits developed during puppyhood will lead to a healthy mature dog in the years to come. Nutrition For The Outside One of the most visible components of your dog is its fur. Nutrition plays a vital role in this area. A large percentage of the protein your puppy takes in goes towards maintaining its coat. Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids are also essential for healthy skin and fur. Which Food Do I Choose? There will always be those who buy the cheapest brand on the market. Some will opt for the most expensive, while others will simply go with a brand name they recognize. The key is to find the right food for your particular puppy. One thing you cannot afford to ignore is the nutritional content. Because they are still growing, puppies need more protein than adults. Proteins foster muscle growth and development in puppies and lean muscle maintenance in adults, so the more of it there is in a diet, the better it is for your growing retriever. Fats, too, are important for golden puppies because they provide the energy required for everyday activities. You should be careful, however, not to feed your golden excess calories because this will result in excess weight or obesity. Eventually, your dog will end up battling joint problems. For instance, less expensive dog foods typically have lower-quality ingredients. The contents are often inexpensive, low-grade animal protein sources, like by-products and fillers. Fillers are frequently things like cornmeal, rice flour, or seed hulls. In general, thoroughly review the nutritional content of your chosen diet. Are the ingredients wholesome and natural? Does the diet have controlled calcium and phosphorous levels? Is the calorie and fat content limited to manage growth? Does the label state that the diet is complete and balanced? This can lead to obesity and will certainly cause increased defecation. The latter of these two issues will make house training more difficult than it already is. By contrast, costlier dog foods usually have higher-quality ingredients. The scales will be tipped heavily in favor of high-grade animal protein sources and fillers will be few and far between. Price is not, however, a guarantee of quality. The best dog foods for a golden retriever puppy are made with high-quality natural ingredients and have high levels of protein. Make sure the food is complete and balanced for daily feeding and formulated to meet the nutritional needs of large breed puppies. At this point, golden retriever puppies have likely already been switched to dry puppy food and you should continue feeding your pup the same type of food the breeder used. From the day you bring them home until they are six months old, you should feed your golden retriever puppy three times a day. Ideally, your pup should have breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. A grain-free diet is the default meal for golden retrievers that are sensitive to grains, but if your dog is healthy, feeding her such a meal boils down to choice. A lot has been said about grain-free diets. Reports and studies have been carried out in recent years trying to establish any connection between it and Canine Dilated Cardiomyopathy DCM. That all starts with choosing the best puppy food for golden retrievers. Avoid low-cost foods that are more filler than substance, and look for better foods that are packed with nutrients to help your puppy grow. In particular, consider trying a large breed formula to meet the specific needs of your golden retriever puppy. They are patient and energetic dogs who are easy to train, making them excellent service animals as well as loyal companions. If you are bringing a Goldie into your family, you might also be aware of their reputation as food lovers. Your Goldie might want to eat anything and everything you put in their bowl — and maybe even anything left on an unattended plate. In this Golden Retriever feeding guide, Hypro Premium will take you through everything you need to know when it comes to food options for your pup. The best food for most young puppies is milk. If you are weaning a puppy, you can start to mix in a little dry kibble with their puppy milk to create a paste. You can feed this mix to your puppy up to four times a day, slowly reducing the amount of milk you mix in. Over time, your Goldie puppy will get more comfortable with solid foods, until you no longer need to include any milk in their diet. While chubby little puppies are cute, your Goldie should not build up too much excess fat once you start feeding them solids. Goldies go from a small 4kg puppy at 7 weeks old to an almost 30 kg adult dog in the space of only 10 months. At six months old your puppy will still be growing, but more slowly as they reach most of their body development milestones. This is why appropriate feeding in the first year of their life is vital to the overall health of your Goldie for years to come. Over time this can increase to up to 4 cups a day at 10 months old, though females should usually only need 3 cups a day. The amount you feed your puppy is often dependent on their size and sex. While they may have some growing left to do, it depends on your dog. Some Goldies will continue to experience growth spurts before their second birthday, while others will stay the same size. Large breeds can be at risk of growing too fast, which can make them more vulnerable to skeletal and weight problems when they get older. Golden retrievers are especially prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, which can be avoided through diet control. You should feed your Goldie between 3 — 4 cups of food per day over two meals. Adult dogs and puppies have different nutritional needs. This is important to take into consideration as you are establishing a feeding schedule for a Golden Retriever puppy. Puppies require more calories to support their rapid growth than adult dogs, but they also have much smaller stomachs, which means they get fuller faster. Because of this, puppies can easily overeat, especially Golden Retrievers. You can help your puppy avoid overeating by allowing them a short amount of time to eat, and then removing their bowl. All puppies grow a lot during their first year, but large breed puppies are more likely to suffer from negative health consequences as a result. In order to provide your Golden Retriever puppy with the most appropriate food to support their rapid growth, consider choosing a large breed puppy food. Goldie puppies need lots of protein, fibre, and fatty acids to support the development of their bodies and provide them with energy. These foods also take into account the difference in nutrient digestion between small and large breeds. Too much of these nutrients can cause your large breed puppy to develop skeletal abnormalities. So how much do you feed a Golden Retriever? Your adult Goldie could need anywhere between and 1, calories per day. The amount of food you feed your dog will be determined by a few important factors. The first thing to consider is the sex of your dog. On average, your male Golden Retriever will need slightly more food than a female dog. Senior dogs will usually be less active and so will need less food. Goldies in particular can have a lot of variation in the amount of food they need on a daily basis. No matter how much you feed your dog, it is ideal that you feed your adult Golden Retriever two meals a day at evenly spaced time intervals. Feeding your dog twice, once in the morning and again in the evening, can be useful for establishing a routine and avoiding overfeeding. This routine can also include exercise, and is useful for encouraging healthy behaviour around food and toilet training. Special Considerations Your Golden Retriever could be predisposed to several health conditions that are important to consider when you make decisions about their diet. Firstly, Golden Retrievers are known for their beautiful coats, but their skin can often become infected. Goldies love swimming, but this can cause problems if water irritates their skin. They can also be susceptible to atopic dermatitis, which causes extreme itchiness, resulting in licking and biting behaviours in dogs that can cause even more damage. For dogs prone to skin and coat issues, a fish-based diet can help alleviate symptoms. Fish contains plenty of fatty acids, which support coat and skin health, and rarely triggers any allergic reaction in dogs. Goldies often benefit from healthy grains in their diet, especially as avoiding them can actually leave your dog more vulnerable to nutritional dilated cardiomyopathy, or nutritional DCM. This heart disease is common in Golden Retrievers, and can be triggered by consuming too much grain-free pet food that contains legumes like lentils and peas. You should consider feeding your Golden Retriever foods that are full of grains and proteins like chicken or fish. These are the benefits and drawbacks of the three most popular options — wet food, a raw food diet, and dry food. Wet food can be a great option for dogs that need plenty of protein and fat, like working dogs or dogs with certain health conditions. It also hydrates your dog while they eat, which can be useful for dogs suffering from any illness. For dogs with highly restrictive diets, raw food prepared by you can be a great way to avoid allergens. You can have complete control over a raw diet, which does require a lot more work on your part, but can have great results. For instance, a Golden Retriever with heart issues should eat a low salt diet, which can be easier to achieve if you are preparing their meals from scratch. However, low quality kibbles tend to be made up of a lot of low quality fillers, which can be hard for your pup to digest. Whatever option you choose for your Goldie, make sure it is suitable for large breeds and contains high quality ingredients. This will help prevent degenerative health disorders in the long run. Your Golden Retriever will probably love food, and will probably try to eat anything you put in front of them, which means you need to help them avoid the negative consequences of overeating. Golden retrievers, like other large and active breeds, need plenty of exercise. Not only is this vital to their physical health, but it also ensures they grow up well socialised and mentally stimulated. As your Goldie grows from a puppy to an adult dog, the amount of meals they need a day will reduce as their digestive systems become more developed. Your dog will need two meals a day, once in the evening and once in the morning, from the age of 6 months.
