After the Puppies are Born Puppy Collars The first thing we do after the puppies are born is to place a collar on them. The puppies wear different color collars, and this is how we track their weights two times a day, how our Vet keeps track of them and how you can track them from week to week in the pictures. Puppy Announcement and Weekly Updates After the puppies are born, we send a birth announcement via email to each family on the list with the litter specifics and pictures. We send pictures and updates every week, so you can watch them grow. Matching Puppies with Families Matching puppies with families is an integral part of our process, and we feel is one of the most significant things that sets us apart. Many breeders allow families to select their puppy in order of deposit, but we feel that we are serving each family and each puppy much better by selecting based on "best fit. Choose Your Favorites The first step in our selection process is to get your opinion based purely on the look of the puppies. After we send the 6-week pictures, we ask everyone on the list for their favorites, based solely on the look of the puppies. This test uses a scoring system and consists of ten individual tests. After this conversation, you have a puppy to call your own! Visiting Your New Puppy After the selection process is complete, you are welcome to visit your new puppy. The puppies are 6 weeks old by this time, and will have had their first set of vaccinations. When visiting your puppy, we request that you do not visit any other kennels, pet stores, breeders, or places where there could be unvaccinated dogs during the same day. We will ask that you take your shoes off at the door and use hand sanitizer. We will also ask that all kids sit on the floor when holding and playing with the puppies. Taking Home Your Puppy At eight weeks, you will be invited to take your puppy home. We will assign a time for your pickup so that we can spend some uninterupted time with you going over things we think you should know and answering any questions you may have. The drive home When you pick up your puppy, we recommend bringing someone with you who can hold the puppy on their lap for the drive home. Your puppy will be unfamiliar in his new surroundings, and without his siblings. Holding the puppy on your lap on an old bath towel will keep your puppy feeling safe and happy and start him off in the best possible way to his new life. Avoid High Traffic Areas On the way home, please remember that your puppy is vulnerable because he has not yet completed his vaccines. Avoid stopping at "high traffic" dog areas, like rest stops, on your journey home. Instead try stopping at restaurants, where people with dogs in the car are less likely to stop. By avoiding areas where other dogs have been walked, you greatly reduce the chances of your puppy picking up any germs left behind. If you have to stop at a rest area, please carry your puppy to a more secluded spot, and you might even want to put your puppy on a puppy pad rather than on the grass - or for the most secure solution, simply put them in a crate lined with a puppy pad. In general, your puppy should be able to make at least a two hour trip without stopping. French Bulldogs are one of the most charming and cutest dog breeds out there, But it does not end there! There are some pretty interesting facts about these unique coats that you need to know before you get one for yourself. What Is a Brindle French Bulldog? While the French Bulldogs come in a variety of colors, the most striking ones are the ones with that special brindle coat. Brindle French bulldog has this dazzling pattern compared to a regular Frenchie. This brindle pattern is known for its darkness. The twisting stripe pattern of colors is so much darker than the typical base color of their coat, with a bit of a blend of lighter hair throughout the coat. However, the most common are the ones with darker and lighter colors, but there are other colors too with different features and mainly patterns. Brindle French Bulldogs This is the common coat color, with a darker coat with a mixture of lighter hair. Seal Brindle French Bulldogs The seal brindle is mostly comparable to a typical Brindle with a few white hairs; it mostly looks similar to a pure black french bulldog. Most of the time, the coat looks grey, though. Chocolate Brindle French Bulldogs Chocolate brindle, as the name suggests, has a chocolate brown color with a slight mixture of a milky color; they have blue eyes while the nose and nails are brown. Reverse Brindle French Bulldogs Reverse Brindles have white or cream color coats along with dark patches or even stripes. This one is considered to be much rarer than the others. The brindled pattern comes from the genes, specifically the K-Locus gene, which is responsible for the fawn, dominant black, brindle colors. If the Frenchie needs to have a Brindled pattern, both its parents should have a recessive K gene. However, not every brindle pattern is the same; each one is different from one other; some may have the brindled patterns all over them while the other will have the pattern on specific areas. Brindle French Bulldogs, like any other Frenchie tend to shed throughout the year, more so in the spring and fall. The difference here is they usually have at least one patch around their eyes. Their nose and nails are often a shade of brown while their eyes are often blue. Tiger Brindle French Bulldogs Tiger Brindles often resemble that of a tiger with their dark color coat and dense pattern of white hair. These lighter colors can sometimes go unnoticed, and they can be mistaken for one color bulldogs. Are Brindle French Bulldogs Purebred? According to the AKC, acceptable colors include fawn, white, brindle, and brindle and white. The reason they are on the more expensive side is that French Bulldogs are often difficult to breed. Common Health Problems of a Brindle French Bulldog The decision to get a French Bulldog is not one that should be taken lightly due to their complicated history with genetic health conditions. Reverse Brindle French Bulldog Reverse Brindle relates to a phenomenon where the Brindle effect appears to be in reverse due to larger areas of lighter color. Whilst this would appear as though it would be down to separate genetics it is no different to a regular Brindle. The amount of Brindle appearing on a dog can vary wildly which leads to some being described as Reverse Brindle. Whilst these parts of the Frenchie will not be Brindle it does not stop the rest of the coat from showing the Brindle effect. This can result in the darker areas of coat being Brindle with White areas. This can create a very unique look in that there are patterned spotted areas on a most white dog. Similar to other shades these can also be affected by the brindle pattern. You will however be able to note brindling of the Lilac coloring. This relates to the Brown gene also known as Testable Chocolate and the Cocoa gene. These are very similar in looks and the only way to tell the difference is usually through a DNA test. You should expect to see lighter shades of chocolate mixed in with darker in this coloring. A standard brindle Frenchie is likely to be the cheapest type of French Bulldog available. Once you start mixing in rarer colors the price is likely to rise but still be below there non brindle versions. This is due to Brindle being undesirable in the eyes of a number of breeders who are breeding purely for coloring. The below gives an idea of the prices you should expect to see from a reputable breeder. However if they were crossbred then it is perfectly reasonable that those offspring could also be Brindle. It is therefore important if you want certainty to look at the lineage and you can also find out more information through DNA testing. They were originally bred from the English Bulldog breed and were referred to as Toy Bulldogs. It was the lace industry cantered around Nottingham where they were at the height of popularity. They were largely migrated to France along with the lace industry itself where they were renamed Bouledogue Francais. From here they were popularised and often referred to in tandem with the nightlife of Paris at the turn of the 20th Century. There are many iconic images of women working in Parisian Brothels accompanied by their French Bulldogs and it was captured within postcards of the time. Eventually the popularity of this breed began to spread worldwide and has been popular amongst a range of people. They were once the pet of choice of Tatiana Romanov of the Russian Royal Family and there is even one recorded as going down sadly on the titanic. Whilst good breeding can alleviate some of the issues below is a list of common health problems, how to spot them and manage them if possible. Allergies Whilst not unique to Frenchies they are known to suffer more than other breeds. Also it can show through watery eyes, ear infections or sneezing. If you suspect allergy issues it is best to discuss with a vet around possible treatments. This usually results in snoring and noisy breathing. It can however lead to retching, regurgitaion and vomiting and it certainly lowers their tolerance to heat. Skin Fold Dermatitis Whilst we love their wrinkles and skinfolds it can lead to issues within these folds. Ear Infections Due to the shape of the French Bulldog they can have issues in keeping their ears clean. Often these areas become breeding grounds for bacteria. In order to clean them the first rule is not to put anything inside the ear, this often just compacts any dirt within the ear. It is best to use an ear cleaner to break down the dirt. Corneal Ulcers As a result of the eyes standing more predominately on their face they are at risk of eye issues. They can also be born with small amounts of tissue sticking out of their eye.
