The availability of color Doppler is valuable but not essential for most examinations. The echocardiographic examination should be performed and interpreted by individuals with advanced training in cardiac diagnosis. Board certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Specialty of Cardiology is considered by the American College of Veterinary Medical Association as the benchmark of clinical proficiency for veterinarians in clinical cardiology, and examination by a Diplomate of this Specialty Board is recommended. Other veterinarians may be able to perform these examinations provided they have the appropriate equipment and have received advanced training in echocardiography. This view is accepted world wide for detection and assessment of hip joint irregularities and secondary arthritic hip joint changes. To obtain this view, the animal must be placed on its back in dorsal recumbency with the rear limbs extended and parallel to each other. The knees stifles are rotated internally and the pelvis is symmetric. Chemical restraint anesthesia to the point of relaxation is recommended. If you do not have serious funding for vet care please do not apply to adopt her. She needs a home capable of supporting her through this for life. She is very shy at first and startles easily with loud noises. If you give her a few hours she becomes your shadow. She loves to cuddle up with you and get all the pets. She is doing great with other dogs and another confident dog in the house really helps her. We do not know how she would do with cats. She is not fostered with kids but did great at the vet with children loving on her. She does need the kids to give her space for the first few days while she adjusts. Willow is doing great with her training so far. Shes potty trained and crate trained. She will go in her crate on her own and relax if you leave the door open. Shes great in the car and does well on the leash. She has a medium energy level currently. When she settles in she gets more playful and excited but also has a lot of relaxed cuddle times. She loves you to be petting and touching her at all times. She likes running around the yard and is starting to play with toys. Due to her shy nature and her heart issues we are requiring a fenced yard for her. So far we have not seen any issues with her sharing food, treats or toys with other dogs or people. Goldens are just like other dogs. They need training, exercise and socialization. There seems to be a false narrative that they are instantly easy perfect dogs and that is just not true. Every dog needs their owner to support them with the things listed above. They also typically have a high energy level until they get a little older. Proper exercise is crucial. Repeat attempts to keep your pet confined to the yard may be frustrating, but every escape opens up the possibility of tragic consequences. If your dog is running loose, they are in danger of being hit by a car, injured in a fight with another dog, or hurt in any number of other ways. You're also liable for any damage or injury your dog may cause, and you may be required to pay a fine if they are picked up by an animal control agency. To prevent escapes, you'll need to find out how your dog is getting out of the yard, and more importantly, why they are so determined to get out. Why dogs escape Your dog may be escaping because they are bored and lonely, especially if: They are left alone for long periods of time without opportunities for interaction with you. Their environment is relatively barren, without playmates or toys. They are a puppy or adolescent under three years old and don't have other outlets for their energy. They are a particularly active type of dog like the herding or sporting breeds and need an active "job" in order to be happy. They visit places after each escape that provide them with interaction and fun things to do. For example, they may go play with a neighbor's dog or visit the local school yard to play with the children. Recommendations: Expand your dog's world and increasing their "people time" in the following ways: Walk your dog daily. It's good exercise, both mentally and physically for both of you! In addition, avoid inadvertently reinforcing a fearful behavior—such as petting a frightened dog and saying, "It's okay. If you can squirt them with a hose or make a loud noise as they are going over, under or through the fence, it might be unpleasant enough that they won't want to do it again. If they realize that you made the noise or squirted the water, however, he'll simply refrain from escaping when you're around. This type of correction is difficult to administer effectively, and won't resolve the problem if used by itself. When your puppy jumps up, turn away from them if you can, as this both prevents them from jumping up and removes your attention from them. They will have to walk on all four to position themselves in front of you if they want to try again. Every time they jump on you or appear to be about to jump up, turn and move in the opposite direction. Asking your puppy to do a desired behavior that is incompatible with the behavior to avoid is always a good option! Praise Correct Behavior: If your puppy puts all four paws on the floor, immediately give them a treat and praise them calmly. If your puppy does not respond, ignore them until they do and then reward them right away with praise or a treat. You may have to practice this several times, so they understand that jumping is not permissible. The best procedure is to practice training these good behaviors regularly, rather than waiting for the undesired behaviors to pop up.
