Manganese Manganese is an essential trace mineral that activates important metabolic processes in the body. It also helps the body detoxify harmful free radicals. If your dog is deficient in manganese, it will usually show as weakened ligaments and connective tissue that can cause joint issues such as cruciate tears. If your dog is very active, you may need to feed a little more. And if your dog is more of a couch potato, you may need to feed a little less.
