When Lola was a pup, she is 5 now, there were very few to choose from, Applaws and Orijen. She started ff on Applaws as Orijen was a bit rich for her tum as a pup and is now on two different flavours of orijen morning and evening with Nature's menu meat and veg in different flavours as well. I'm a firm believer in giving them a range of tastes and textures - they are mammals, and the thought of feeding them just kibble of the same flavour forever is awful - food is one of their main delights. So she also gets some chicken or fish mixed in several times a week. Lola is a 6. She now eats a rounded quarter cup of Orijen kibble and about an inch and a half piece from each Nature's Menu sachet morning and evening. I go by her spine, it should not be too prominent, but you should be able to feel it. Rub you fingers over her ribs - it should feel the same as rubbing your fingers over your flat hand's knuckles. If it feels the same as your hand's knuckles in a fist, you are not feeding enough. Up until now, it was assumed that all TDR breeders must uphold the same basic standard and, thus, that one TDR registered breeder is much like any other. However, in reality, there is great discrepancy between TDR registered breeders: some go above and beyond the standard protocol with regard to customer service, others focus on health testing and full disclosure of pedigrees, others aim to breed dogs with a superior appearance while others focus more on temperament, meanwhile some breeders are very 'new' while others have a wealth of experience spanning several decades. Moreover, in an ideal world, all breeders would uphold their own standards but sometimes that just isn't possible - life changes can also have a big influence, which in turn, can affect the development of puppies and the environment in which they are raised. The best way to approach this situation is by means of Breeder Reviews here on the forum to ensure a fair, honest and objective analysis of each registered breeder. Individual breeders and their breeding practices can be discussed, in public, with individual members puppy purchasers, other breeders, etc providing feedback about their experiences with that breeder good AND bad. This also provides each breeder with the opportunity to defend themselves in public if necessary and quash potential rumors before they get out of hand. It also allows each breeder to acknowledge criticisms and take them into account constructively so that changes can be made in accordance - unless breeders KNOW there are problems particularly with regard to public perception nothing will change for the better. Lately there has been a lot of 'badmouthing' going on in private via emails and PMs which may or may not be 'justified' depending on the situation but it is simply not constructive. This system will allow positive progression as we will be working WITH breeders to help them improve their practices, rather than immediately kicking them out to the curb. Some breeders may very well break the rules for their own personal gain, but it will all be presented in public and nothing will be kept hidden. A few have suggested that this is 'letting off' breeders 'too lightly' when they break the rules - but I beg to differ. During this time of transitioning to a new place, we are in much need for fundraising efforts to help our community stay involved in fun and creative ways. This volunteer position may involve our rescue animals. We're also looking for dedicated individuals who would like to lead this team! This is a great opportunity to have fun and engage with animals and our community while expressing creativity and fresh ideas. Other areas of volunteering include remote work. If you're not able to meet or are only available here and there, we have a few data inputting volunteer positions available that can really use your help!
