They all have different personalities, but they all fit with our family. Your poodle will fit with your personality too. She has completely weened them at 6 weeks. I watch the puppies so close every day. At 6 weeks old, they start to bond with me and our family. They are ready to go home and give you lots of puppy love at 6 weeks. Your puppy will be taken care of by our family until it goes home. We will weigh them almost every day and record their weight and any comments that we have. We love and play with the puppies every day. There are 4 poodle loving adults on our farm that love to socialize your puppy. We will send the records that we keep as well as my vet records and vet health check home with you. If we see a problem, we will call our local vet immediately. We will let you know if there are ever any problems. We will be very transparent with you throughout the entire process. They will have their tails docked and dew claws removed. Our vet will make sure they are up to date on their vaccinations. They will also have a vet health check. Our puppies will never see the dirt ground until they have had their vaccinations. They will be on a minimum of receiving wormer at least every 2 weeks. We start bathing your puppy at 4 weeks. They will be used to being bathed, hair dried, and brushed. We do try to have some of our friends, children come play with the puppies to have them ready for children. We will stay in touch with you even after your puppy is home to make sure everything is going well. We do have a couple of people we use to transport pets. We will transport to most places in the United States. I am happy to supply you the names and phone numbers of the transports we use. You are certainly welcome to use anyone of your choice. Feed your puppy a little amount, in the beginning, to ensure that they are ready to eat. If they are not ready, do not force the food on them. There will be no problems if you are feeding a puppy with a homemade diet but it should be prepared from prescribed recipes that are nutritionally complete and balanced. Diets consisting of an unplanned and indiscriminate mixture of human foods particularly including carbohydrates will likely result in obesity and even dietary-induced disease. When you Lab reaches 14months of age, it should be given an adult food that contains less energy and calcium. This will decrease the risk of obesity and orthopaedic conditions. And do not feed them coffee or tea as they can contain caffeine, theobromine, and theophylline. These toxic substances can dangerously affect the heart and nervous system. Onions, garlic, raisins and grapes can be severely toxic in labradors. Raw meat is potential source of parasites and pathogenic bacteria for your puppy. Eggs yokes are an excellent source of protein. Raw eggs contain an enzyme called avidin, which decreases the absorption of biotin a B vitamin. This can, in extreme cease, lead to skin and coat problems. Liver contains higher levels of protein, fats, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins. Raw liver can be a source of parasites and pathogenic bacteria. Excessive amounts of liver can cause Vitamin A toxicity. Raw bone chewing will control tartar buildup on a pups teeth. However, bone chewing can cause intestinal blockages and perforations. Never use cooked bones. Commercial Puppy Foods Most commercial puppy foods are designated for small, medium, large and giant breeds. This designation can be found on the label. Puppies of medium sized breeds are less than '25 kg fully grown adult body weight'. A full grown and lean Labrador will usually weigh between 25kg and 45kg. We feed our dogs at the 'lower' level of the recommended range. The 'Hills Body Fat Index' is a very helpful body shape indicator. The same food as the bitch You should feed your new puppy with the same brand of food as the bitch received during lactation. From 2 weeks into pregnancy, our expectant mothers are fed 'Royal Canin Labrador Puppy' food. Introducing a new brand of food If you are wanting to introduce a new brand of food to your puppy, then blend it gradually with the existing brand in increasing amounts over 3 days. This should prevent food rejection and any kind of gastric upset. It is best to choose a diet designed for large breed puppies. Selected commercial feeds should contain a limited percentage of filler compounds. Pawlinglabs uses Royal Canin Labrador as our preferred option. Growing labradors Labrador pups have a very steep growth curve, and their total daily energy needs do increase as they grow. Calculate the amount of puppy food that will satisfy that need. Appropriate food consumption and nutrition plays a critical role in bone development. Overfeeding will not increase or benefit the growth rate of young and growing labrador puppies. And it does not correlate with optimal adult size. However, it does increase the risk of skeletal abnormalities. The vast majority of skeletal disorders occur in large breeds including labradors and they are associated with consumption of table food and an excessive intake of a commercial food and supplementation. The large breeds like labradors are limited in their ability to cope with an excess of minerals such as calcium. The result of this over consumption is abnormal bone development and skeletal disorders. Nutritional management will be critical in the to prevention of bone and joint diseases. In most cases, skeletal disease can prevented by appropriate quantities of feed in a regulated diet with optimal nutrient levels. A complete and balanced commercial diet is essential. Dietary deficiencies will be of little concern if your labrador pup is fed with a complete and balanced commercial diet. Brands like Eukanuba and Royal Canin are specifically formulated for young, growing labradors. There is real potential for harm by over feeding and giving additional supplementation. Housing safety and activity levels Housing safety and activity levels are under the your influence. Nutrition is also under your control and it is the single most important factor affecting the development of the musculoskeletal system. Energy, protein, and calcium are the critical nutritional components affecting skeletal development. However, if they are given in excess, they will be detrimental to normal bone and joint growth. Naturally with Puggie and Missy being such wonderful and devoted pets, or should I say children, we wanted to expand the family to include the pitter patter of little Pug puppies. Missy was a good choice for a Mother as she was very loving. We went in search of a good stud to breed her to and found one in Pennsylvania, a champion show Pug, Ch. Sheffield's Fortune Teller. With the stud selected we made the trip to Pennsylvania to breed her and then waited and waited and waited some more. We were never really sure that the breeding was a success until the day she delivered, and that was a total surprise to us. We'd even seen our vet and she couldn't confirm for us that Missy was pregnant, but she was. Then, on the afternoon of November 23, , I returned home to pack for a short business trip to Chicago. When I entered the house and inquired of Anne where Missy was she informed me that she was sleeping in. I went upstairs to the bedroom to pack and Missy was indeed curled up on Anne's pillow sleeping. I took a quick shower and when I returned to the bedroom I almost fell over. Missy was cleaning her first born puppy. I quickly got on the phone to the vet to find out what we should do. She informed us to just sit back and wait for the others to arrive and to assist Missy with the cleaning after the puppies were born. Within the hour the second puppy was born and some time later the third. Poor Missy was exhausted by the time the third puppy was born and it fell on me to clean the puppy and make sure it was breathing. These puppies were just a little larger than a good size mouse and totally helpless, but Missy kept a watchful eye out for them and immediately proved she would be a good Mother. I have to admit, Missy did a lot better handling the birth than I did. I was a nervous wreck throughout the whole process and totally exhausted by the time the third one was born. I was also worried to death that the puppies wouldn't make it because they were so tiny and helpless. I quickly changed my travel plans to an early flight the next morning deciding to stay home and make sure they were being well taken care of by Missy. That was probably a mistake because I didn't get a wink of sleep the entire night and left at 5 a. Needless to say I was exhausted the entire day in Chicago, but I managed to make it home that evening to find Mother and puppies thriving. It was difficult, almost impossible, to resist the urge to pick them up and cuddle them, but I knew they shouldn't be handled to much and left them alone. Missy was indeed a good Mother. Very doting and attentive to her puppies. As you can see by the picture left she even allowed one of the new kittens in the house to share the puppies box. It was a happy time then watching the little puppies grow, open their eyes and begin to explore the new world around them. It wasn't long before they were crawling out of the box and all over the house. Just a few weeks after the puppies were born Christmas arrived and what a wonderful time they had discovering the tinsel hanging from the tree and the presents strewn beneath it. They use the presents to learn how to mountain climb, and the tinsel to play tug of war. With Christmas came lots of opportunities to take some cute pictures of the puppies. I couldn't resist placing them in the basket and snapping away. They couldn't resist never looking in the same direction at the same time. When the puppies where first born we weren't sure what we were going to do with all of them. We knew we'd keep one and another would go to my Mother and Father, but what about the third one. With the uncertainty of who was going, who was staying, we didn't immediately name the puppies. Playing it safe, we simply called them names relating to their birth order. Number One, Two and Three. Number One and Three were the best looking Pug puppies with all the traditional markings. Number Two was not the best, but she quickly grew on our affections. She was actually the first to be named. We called her Tu Tu. She loved to run and play. It was apparent after a short time that none of these puppies would ever leave the family. The only question that remained was which one would be give to my Mother and Father? For that answer we returned to the breeder to get their opinion as to which one was the best representation of the Pug breed. With three puppies running wild under the Christmas tree it was always nice when they got tired and went to sleep. Here one, Chrisy right , is just about asleep while Beau gnaws on an ear and Tu Tu looks for a nice place to rest her head and go to sleep. It looks like Chrisy's back is going to be the perfect place to take that nap. It was cute watching them cuddle up this little Koala bear stuffed toy as if it was Missy. They enjoyed every minute. Missy truly was a good mother to the little puppies. She looked after their every need and at feeding time managed to accommodate three hungry Pug puppies. Anyone who knows anything about Pugs knows that food is top on their priority list and nothing will stop them from getting their fill. Missy eagerly accommodated them and watched them with a doting eye. Fed well they grew fast and were soon lapping up dog food. As with children, puppies, too, are always playful and it takes a strong, loving hand to manage them. Missy offered that strong, loving hand when her puppies got a bit rambunctious. Here Missy gives Chrisy a stern talking to, not that she really needed it. Times were not always rowdy with the puppies. Quite often things would quiet down and one of the puppies, here it's Tu Tu, would cuddle up with Missy for a few moments of tender loving care. She is totally fine cohabitating with the resident grumpy chihuahua in her foster home and takes her cues well. We think Missy would do well with another low-key dog companion, or as a solo sidekick to her new person. Dog-savvy children over 12 who are relatively calm and understand her boundaries might be fine. Missy is a playful and happy little girl. She is a bit more shy than Herbie but loves being around people and learns new commands very quickly. She absolutely loves playing fetch and swimming at the beach. She enjoys her daily walks and is happy to be by your side and part of your day to day activities. This sweetheart is extremely affectionate and loyal, and loves to be patted and cuddled. Missy loves kids and chasing her tail is her favourite trick to make them giggle. Missy and Herbie are wonderful family dogs and would love to go to their new home together. We've never been apart and would be quite sad to be on our own. I like to have a backyard or small outdoor area to play in and to go to the bathroom.
