Usually, they have a white base with light and dark gray markings. Often, there are also patches of tan and black on their coat. The shades make them appear to have dusky-looking fur. Note that fawn, a light tan or yellow color, may have many different shades, ranging from a pale tan to a deep deer-red. Specifically, brindle stripings are visible on the top of the head and the chest or back area. Usually, these appear to be blue and fawn stripes with various white markings. Blue-grey English Bulldog The blue-grey English Bulldog has a dilute bluish-gray coat, from dark grey to light grey. Their coat usually goes with white or tan color around the face and the chest. These dogs made their first appearance in the United States in the s. They may have patterns including brindle and solid colors white, fawn, red, or black , with or without white markings. A full-grown blue English Bulldog ranges from 12 to 25 inches in height and can weigh around 40 to 50 pounds. They are generally short, compact which adds to their whole appeal. Their size makes them suitable for small living spaces such as apartments, considering they do not need a lot of room to move around. Unlike large dog breeds, their average size makes them less intimidating and easier to manage. Like other breeds, a blue English Bulldog is expected to be fully grown at around one year. Most likely, you can expect your new furry friend to reach its final weight and height after one year and up to 18 months. In most dogs, a blue-colored coat is due to a recessive gene known as the dilution gene. Different color variation in English Bulldogs occurs as genes modify eumelanin to create other colors, including blue grey. For blue English Bulldogs, the genetic locations or Loci is called D for dilution. It is responsible for diluted pigment that lightens coats from black or brown to gray, blue, or very pale brown. The d-d genotype makes up the blue English Bulldog variations: blue brindle, blue fawn, blue with tan points, blue sable fawn, etc. Hence, d-d is a dilution that affects black pigment and black-colored hairs. Are Blue English Bulldogs Rare? Yes, blue English Bulldogs are extremely rare. Typically, you will pay a premium for one because of its uniqueness. Blue Bulldogs are considered one of the rarest colors in the breed, alongside black, chocolate, and lilac. Only a few blue English Bulldogs exist in the world. They are notably tricky to breed to a great degree, making them more costly than standard Bullies. If you find a blue Bulldog pup, ensure that it is a purebred English Bulldog with proper AKC documentation before making a purchase. It would also be best if you affirm that the breeder is reliable and knowledgeable. Most blue English Bulldog puppies do not entirely change color as they grow. When Bulldogs grow, the shade of their coat may change, making them look darker or lighter, but their color usually stays the same. For instance, when blue Bulldog puppies are born, they may look black at first. The coat color may fade over time until they take on a blue or grey coat in their adult years. Different types of lighting may also play an important role in how your Bulldogs appear to the naked eye. Hence, their color can certainly look different in specific lightings. However, the skin and coat of your dog may sometimes change later in life, becoming lighter or darker. It may be due to several reasons such as their nutrition, infectious diseases, cancer, inherited health conditions, bruises, or ear or saliva staining. The different causes of a pigment change in your blue English Bulldog pup may vary. It is better to contact your vet for a diagnostic assessment. However, many kennel clubs do not recognize rare colored Bullies such as the blue English Bulldog. In particular, the American Kennel Club AKC is yet to acknowledge this color along with some other non-standard varieties like merle, lilac, or chocolate. Thanks to their sweet and gentle disposition, the blue English Bulldog makes for a brilliant family pet. Rest assured, their rare coloration does not affect their general temperament in any way. They also have the well-loved sweet disposition of the English Bulldog breed. Some female Bullies tend to display maternal instincts with kids and toddlers around. Hence, they will watch over them and become protective. However, some may act aggressively toward other dogs and cats. Prospective owners must prepare for possible animal aggression. With Strangers: These dogs are typically shy and timid around strangers, especially if not trained to socialize at a young age. If you want your blue English Bulldog to act well around other people, expose them early towards new presences. Before you adopt or buy a blue English Bulldog puppy, get to know the dog so you can assess its overall disposition. It will help you figure out whether the puppy fits your lifestyle or not. The average lifespan of blue English Bulldogs ranges from about 6 to 8 years. They were once considered very healthy dogs with an average lifespan of 10 years, but their expected dog years changed over the years of breeding. Due to inadequate and improper breeding practices, some blue Bullies may develop genetic health problems. An initial sign to look out for is the gradual onset of a dry and dull hair coat. Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome: This pathological condition affects short-nosed dogs such as the blue English Bulldog, leading to severe respiratory distress. Some telling signs include Dyspnea or difficulty breathing, stress and heat intolerance during exercise, and collapse. Severe Skin Problems: Your blue English Bulldog may be prone to several skin allergies, hot spots, eczema, and dry skin. The breed is known to be at risk of severe skin infections or recurrence of disease within skin folds. Degenerative Spine Disease: This progressive disease of the spinal cord targets older blue English Bulldogs between 8 and 14 years old. It starts with a lack of balance Ataxia in the hind limbs, causing the affected dog to wobble, knuckle down, or drag his feet while walking. Eye Problems: This condition includes cherry eyes, dry eyes, and more. Eye and eyelid problems are common in blue English Bulldogs, which presents with redness, discharge, and frequent rubbing due to pain. Hip Dysplasia: This common orthopedic condition in blue English Bulldogs results from a malformed hip joint. Thyroid and Heart Disease: Hypothyroidism occurs when your blue English Bulldog is not secreting enough thyroid hormones. This condition is also linked to seizures, heart and blood vessel problems, and infertility. Ensuring your blue English Bulldog has a proper diet, adequate exercise, and treatment are essential in preventing these health problems. Remember that Bulldogs quickly overheat and have breathing problems in hot weather. Hence, never leave your blue Bulldog out in the sun unattended or without access to shade and water. Photo from bigsbythebully IG Blue Bulldog puppies are so rare and hard to produce, which makes them very expensive. The price depends on their coat type, color, and generation. For those wondering if blue puppies are more expensive than other Bulldog colors, the answer is yes. It is quite cheaper than the price range of blue Bulldog puppies. You can also order subscription packs from many reputable companies that give your dog new exploratory items every month. The best time for obedience lessons is between 6 months to a year, but every trainer varies in preference. Depending on the treatment, you could spend thousands of dollars in one swoop. Pet sitting is more personalized care but can rack up extra fees. If you want to save as much as possible while still giving your Bulldog the care they need, look at these money-saving tips. They mainly offer spay and neuter surgeries at reduced costs, but they can also provide basic care. You can make anything from dog toys to intricate beds. Auto-Ship Dog Food If you buy your dog food from certain websites, many companies offer discounted prices if you place an automatic, recurring order. Of course, you can always save on English Bulldog costs by using low-cost services and making tons of at-home projects and toys for your pooch. Black Tri English Bulldogs are a very rare yet very old color. After the English bulldog breed was outlawed for bullbaiting in the breed came near extinction until it was saved by soon to be exhibitor breeders that had a love for the English Bulldog breed. The first Bulldog breed standard was written in London year .Eventually it was written in the Bulldog breed standard that solid black was undesirable, but not so objectionable if occurring to a moderate degree in piebald patches. Note that black color is not a disqualification. Coat color only counts for 4pts out of points in the AKC Bulldog breed standard. As a result many decades ago show English Bulldog breeders started working to avoid black colors in their breeding program. These colors do still randomly pop up in even prestigious long standing Champion show English Bulldog bloodlines. These colors of Bulldogs have become more popular in recent years. Because the black color is so rare now obviously it is hard to find. Also even though it is considered undesirable it is still a very, very expensive color if it presents its self on a high quality English Bulldog dueto the rareness of the color. Only a couple blue English Bulldogs exist in the whole world and they are extremely hard to produce! Still yet the biggest challenge would be finding a reputable bulldog breeder. These Bulldog breeders are rare, largely because they are subject to criticism among their peers. On the positive note black English bulldogs seem to be very healthy and have minimal skin or immune system issues. Blue bulldog with blue eyes sold to super star Joe Jonas of Jonas Brothers! Due to their nature as retrieving dogs with very high energy levels, a Labradoodle requires lots of both physical and mental exercise. Labradoodles are one of the larger breeds of dogs. And as with any bigger dog, when they pull on their leash — you should be ready to hold on. If your dog is really unlucky, this can even lead to damage to its throat. When looking for the perfect harness, the main things to look for are one that fits well, is as comfortable as possible, and can help reduce the pulling behavior from your dog when training or walking with it. And not only will this be very uncomfortable and hurt your dog, but it can also result in increasing the pulling behavior as they will try and do anything they can to get away from the cause of the pain. There is a wide range of options available, from standard body-fitted versions like the Embark to all-around products like the Ruffwear. But in the end, whichever you choose to go for will very much depend on how much you are willing to spend, and which design you prefer. Each harness comes with its own pros and cons which need is something you should consider before making your final decision. Final notes As you probably know as a doodle-owner, they are very adventurous dogs who love jumping in the water or going on large adventures, so pick a harness that will definitely stay on them no matter the situation. You should also keep in mind that Labradoodles grow very fast and will quickly become too large for a lot of harnesses if you choose to get one when your dog is a puppy. You could perhaps consider test-driving a few of the cheaper options before investing in the one you really want when your Labradoodle is fully grown. But as always, do what you think is the best for your dog in terms of wear-ability, comfort, and, most importantly, safety. We hope you found our list of the best Labradoodle harness helpful. The average lifespan of a Springerdoodle is years. How much exercise does a Springerdoodle need? Springerdoodles are a very active breed and will need minutes of daily exercise to live a happy, healthy life. This figure can range slightly depending on the size, age, and personality of your dog. This breed is not recommended for those who live a sedentary lifestyle. Keep in mind that a standard Springerdoodle will typically need more exercise than a mini Springerdoodle based on size alone. To avoid damaging their developing bones and joints, be careful not to over-exercise your puppy. As a rule of thumb, a Springerdoodle puppy should get about 5 minutes of exercise per month of age, times per day. Once they are fully grown at months, your Sproodle is ready for their full minutes of exercise. Are Sproodles good apartment dogs? Sproodles are not an ideal breed for those who live in an apartment or small house. This breed will be much happier with more space, particularly if you have a large, fenced backyard… and maybe even a doggie door! Mini Springerdoodles need slightly less exercise and are more likely to fit within the weight limits that many apartment buildings have. Is the Sproodle a healthy breed? Springerdoodles are generally considered to be a healthy breed. While mixed breeds tend to be healthier overall than purebred dogs, they are still susceptible to health issues from both parent breeds. Some common illnesses seen in the English Springer Spaniel Poodle mix include elbow dysplasia, otitis externa, progressive retinal atrophy, and epilepsy to name a few. One way to protect your Springerdoodle from accidents and illnesses is to enroll them in a quality pet insurance plan as early in their life as possible. I personally have my dog covered with Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. Are Springerdoodles easy to train? The cross between two very intelligent breeds, Sproodles tend to be smart and easy to train. More from Popular Doodle.Lifespan Sociability The Springerdoodle is an increasingly popular designer breed. There are a decent number of Springerdoodle breeders, due to their popularity. When choosing a breeder, take a look at their premises and make sure you can see where the puppies and parents are being kept. Try to ensure that the puppies are being kept in good condition, with access to food and drink, as well as the opportunity to exercise. If you are looking for a companion, the Springerdoodle is loyal and gentle and you will most certainly enjoy their company. The Springerdoodle May Be Considered Hypoallergenic One of the reasons for the popularity of the poodle breed is that they are described as being hypoallergenic. Dog allergies are known to affect up to one in five adults, and asthma sufferers can also face a difficult time when faced with dog hair and dander. It is the allergen Can f 1 Canis familiaris allergen 1 that is known to cause allergic reactions from allergy sufferers and so-called hypoallergenic dogs are thought to produce a lower concentration of this allergen. Poodles are one such breed so if your Springerdoodle inherits this trait from his Poodle parent breed, it is possible that even the most allergic sufferer could live with the dog. However, scientists dispute the fact that these dogs produce less of the allergen, and while some breeds are known to be less of an irritant to sufferers, there is no such thing as a truly hypoallergenic dog breed. The Springerdoodle Is One of Dozens of Poodle Hybrid Breeds It is impossible to say exactly how many designer breeds exist, let alone how many of them incorporate the Poodle breed into their genetics. Kennel clubs, including the American Kennel Club, do not recognize hybrid breeds, only purebred dogs. However, the American Canine Hybrid Club recognizes more than crossbreeds, and more than 20 of these are considered Poodle crosses. The Labradoodle is one of the best known, but other examples include the Spoodle and the Saint Berdoodle, which cross the Poodle with the Cocker Spaniel and the Saint Bernard respectively. They were bred as hunting dogs and would cause game and birds to spring from their hideout, effectively flushing them into the open so that hunters could shoot them. Springers would also retrieve game. Their hunting background means that the Springerdoodle is full of energy and vitality. A typical dog will run for hours, reach fast top speeds, and have an incredible turn of pace: this, along with the fact that they like to chase birds and are perfectly at home in the water, is worth bearing in mind when you visit the dog park. Ensure their recall is excellent before letting them off the leash. Your Doodle will want to please you, has more than enough energy to cope with even the most grueling of tasks and workouts, and he seemingly has the capacity to understand every word you say. Are These Dogs Good for Families? He will get on with children and not only put up with them, but actively get involved in games for hours. He will also enjoy long family walks and family activities, before settling down to cuddle on the sofa with his owners. It is always a good idea to socialize dogs when they are young. They can be introduced to cats and small animals, although it is never a good idea to leave your dog alone with very small animals. Springers enjoy the canine company and can thrive in a pack environment with other dogs of the same breed and of either sex. The look of the Springerdoodle will depend on which parent breed is dominant. However, this breed usually has a curly double-layered coat and its size will be determined by the size of the poodle parent. Both parent breeds are energetic and lively, so the hybrid breed does exhibit these personality traits. Both breeds prefer company to being left alone, and both are good with children. This mix makes the resulting designer breed a great companion dog for children of any age. As is typical of breeds of this size, Springerdoodles have a good life expectancy, although there are a few known health issues that you need to keep an eye out for. Expect to feed anywhere from two to three cups of food every day. Ensure that it is a good quality dog food, ideally, one that is suited to high-energy, high-octane dogs, and you should have some tasty treats on hand to make training even more effective. They will happily go on long walks, they love to swim and jump around in the water, and you should expect your Springer to spring. You should encourage your dog to swim, where possible, so consider a walk to the beach or a lake so that they can get wet and get healthy exercise. Expect to go on two walks a day, lasting at least 30 minutes each. You should also find some way to offer your dog some high-energy sport or activity. They are especially effective at and benefit from agility classes, frisbee, and flyball activities. The Springerdoodle will adapt to life in an apartment, but they prefer a property with a decent sized yard. If you do have a yard, ensure that it is fenced-in, and look for any areas where they might be able to stage a getaway. A fenced yard enables you to throw a ball or other toy to fetch, without the worry of him getting away. The Springerdoodle is an intelligent breed. This means that endless ball throwing will get boring for your dog. Look for ways to challenge him mentally as well as physically. Although the Springerdoodle is known to be loving and friendly, early socialization will help ensure these tendencies surface. Training classes offer a safe and friendly environment in which to socialize your puppy. Always eager to please, this hybrid breed is considered easy to train. They will pick up commands quicker than other breeds, and usually require less repetition because they are alert and astute. Your Springerdoodle will enjoy learning new tricks and showing them off. In reality, all dogs shed, but those with curly hair retain the shed hair in their coat. This means while the house will remain relatively dog hair free, if your dog adopts the curly-haired coat of the poodle , it will require frequent brushing. Brushing your dog removes the loose and dead hair and it prevents the fur from matting. Expect to brush your dog every day, potentially twice a day during the shedding season. If there is any wax or other buildup, use a damp cloth and remove it so that your dog remains healthy, infection-free, and comfortable. You should avoid bathing dogs unless it is absolutely necessary. Bathing strips the fur of natural oils, which means that frequent bathing can actually do a lot more harm than good. In particular, medium to large dogs are prone to joint dysplasia. If you see any signs of limping or discomfort from the joints, have your dog checked out as soon as possible in order to identify and treat the problem as early as possible. Minor Conditions. Adopting or buying a Springerdoodle Caution is needed when introducing this inquisitive working breed to other family pets, including cats. They can be great with kids if properly socialized, and make great pets and companions. Springer doodle dogs are also a good first time dog for new puppy parents, as long as they are prepared to get stuck into that all important positive training. An active breed, exercise is key to their happiness, and yours when sharing their home! Described as a sporting breed, these dogs derive from years of intentional breeding of British land spaniels. The English Springer Spaniel assisted hunters by detecting game birds and driving them out from cover. When the breed became popular in North America, these dogs were well known as bird dogs with powerful noses and high trainability. The Standard Poodle started out as a duck hunting dog. Because of this, Poodles make great retrievers. They were bred to be smart, easily trainable and have a distinct curly coat that kept them warm when swimming in near-frozen lakes. The distinct lion cut of Poodles allowed for better movement and protection when they were working. The leg joints, chest, and hips remained covered to keep joints warm even in the winter. In early 20th century, Miniature and Toy Poodles were bred from the Standard. As of , the three sizes of the poddle are officially recognized by Kennel associations around the world. Springerdoodle Appearance In general these Springerdoodle pups have wavy to curly hair, in a variety of colors that can be solid or mixed. Their ears are usually floppy and medium sized with dark and round eyes. As a mix, the appearance of Springer Doodle puppies can be quite unexpected. On the one hand, we have English Springer Spaniels. These pups have drooping ears and a proud, sturdy body. Although available in a variety of patterns and colors, the preferred one is white and dark brown. Spaniels have soft, elegant facial features that frame their dark round eyes. On the other hand, Poodles also boast a strong, muscular body. The have a moderately rounded head with round, kind eyes. Poodle coat colors come in white, black, or apricot tone on the hallmarked curly fur. Coats and Grooming Contrary to popular opinion, this crossbreed needs grooming and clipping to be healthy. Because of its parent breeds, Springerdoodles inherit the grooming requirements of both. English Springer Spaniels require occasional grooming to avoid mats in their wavy, long coat. Brushing the coat regularly helps with seasonal shedding. Constant trimming is necessary to keep healthy nails. Their long ears heavily covered in fur can cause the ear canal to become moist, resulting in ear health issues. Poodles with longer hair need daily brushing to avoid matting. If the coat is kept short, once or twice a week will suffice. Springerdoodles will exhibit the same grooming and care requirements as either parent breed or a mix of both. Are Springerdoodles Hypoallergenic? Even though much has been said about Poodles being non-shedding dogs making their mixes non-shedding as well this is simply not true. All dogs shed. Curly-haired dogs simply keep the shed hairs inside the curls, making brushing essential to avoid matting. Although Poodles are well known for having low shedding coats, Springerdoodles are not guaranteed to have the tight curls that holds the dander at bay. You will never be completely sure of its size until your Springer Poodle puppy has fully grown. An English Springer Spaniel is generally 19 to 20 inches in height. Thanks to its sturdy, muscular build, the medium-sized Springer Spaniel normally weighs between 40—50 pounds. On the other hand, Poodles come in three distinct sizes. Standard Poodles are usually taller than 15 inches from the shoulder. Miniature varieties are between 10 to 15 inches and Toy varieties are less than 10 inches in height. Of course, the weight and build of Poodles varies greatly depending on their height. Miniatures will range between 10 and 15 pounds; female Standards are generally 40—50 pounds and male Standards 60—70 pounds. Toy Poodles can be as small as pounds. Mini vs Standard Springerdoodles The size of your Springerdoodle will largely depend on the size of its poodle parent. These pups will be on the larger size, tending to weight between 35 and 45 pounds. Most Springerdoodles are this size. Nevertheless, there are also Mini springerdoodles available! These come from crossing with either a Toy or Miniature poodle. More variable in size than the Standard type, Mini springerdoodles can weigh anything between 5 and 25 pounds. Springerdoodle Temperament Springerdoodles will be energetic, intelligent, loyal and affectionate, just like their parent breeds. They will love spending time together, and struggle with being alone. They will also need a lot of attention, and focus on training and exercise too. Springerdoodles are popular for being great companions, family pets, and friendly towards other furry friends and people. While Springerdoodle breeders cannot predict specific characteristics, the Springer Poodle mix will likely exhibit the same smart, friendly, energetic eagerness as the Springer Spaniel and Poodle. English Springer Spaniels are very active, friendly, and also obedient. They love to be with their people and are unhappy when spending large amounts of time alone. On the other hand, Poodles are athletic, eager and companionable. They enjoy being part of the family and dislike being alone as well. Both breeds tend to be patient towards children, especially when they are socialized at a young age. Of course, the natural instinct of your pup need to be properly trained to ensure they are a companionable pal. They require regular exercise which can include long walks, fetching, and swimming. Springer Doodles are intelligent, active, and often require daily outdoor activity. Because of this, your Springer Spaniel Poodle mix will need ample space to run and play, preferably outside. Keeping plenty of toys for your dog to play with when they are inside is also ideal to avoid unwanted attention on household items. Positive Training As for training, this mix will quickly learn new cues and tricks. The English Springer Spaniel and Poodle are both intelligent, which makes them easily trainable, especially if started at a young age. Both of these breeds respond better to positive reinforcement in training, and your Springerdoodle will as well. Are They Good Pets? Springer Spaniel and Poodle are both very active dogs, so the ideal home for the Springerdoodle will be one with the energy to keep up! If you love being active, Springerdoodles make great companions for a single owner or a family with children and other pets. Springerdoodles usually get along with kids and other pets after being properly socialized. They are loyal and enjoy family activities and pleasing their human companions. While these breeds are good family dogs, supervision is suggested when interacting with young children. Potential Health Problems English Springer Spaniels were the first American-bred dogs to be diagnosed with fucosidosis, a fatal autosomal recessive neurological disease. The breed should also be checked for phosphofructokinase deficiency, which can cause chronic anemia, an enlarged spleen, and acute hemolytic crises. In addition, these other conditions could affect a Springer Spaniel: otitis externa, progressive retinal atrophy, and retinal dysplasia. Before getting a pup, talk to the breeder and ask for genetic testing. Poodles of all sizes are prone to idiopathic epilepsy and sebaceous adenitits. The latter can be easily misdiagnosed as a Tyroid problem, so make sure to ask for tests and have a chat about health with your breeder. Toy and Standard Poodles can get a clotting disorder known as Factor XII deficiency, which is an inherited bleeding disorder. Poodle owners must keep an eye out for orthopedic problems in Toy and Miniature varieties, as well as gastric dilatation and volvulus in Standard sized pups. Springerdoodle Puppies The Springer Spaniel Poodle mix is a popular crossbreed, so finding Springerdoodle breeders online should be relatively easy. A responsible breeder will want to make sure you can provide a safe and healthy environment for your new puppy, so they will ask questions about you and your home. These tests are also recommended for Poodles, in addition to knee evaluations and a skin biopsy. Springerdoodle puppies can inherit any aspect of either parent dog, which makes it essential for them to receive the same health tests as the parents! Adult Shelter Dogs Rescuing a Springerdoodle can be a very rewarding experience for everyone involved. On one hand, you will be offering a second chance to a pup, gaining a lifelong friend in the process. On the other, you avoid promoting careless breeding practices while still enjoying the crossbreed you wanted! Of course, adoption has its drawbacks. You will usually get a pup or adult dog that has been abandoned and neglected at some point in their life. This can cause certain scarring and traumas that you will need to address. Training and socialization is also vital: your rescue needs to understand that they are in a safe place and nobody will hurt them. All of this can be a handful for first-time dog owners. Because they know their dogs the best, they will match you with pups that fit your home, abilities and expectations. Like so many, we love our families and take pride in our homes, and we consider our pets to be integral parts of those entities. That said, we could not find an effective way to coif them that was on par with the way we tended to our children, our homes, or ourselves. These beloved pets are allowed on the furniture and in our beds, and yet even when fresh from the groomer, we knew they did not smell or feel as good as they could. With the development of our coat-specific shampoos, conditioner and deodorizing spray, we think we found just the way to say thanks for being the best and the sweetest MVP of the house. We know beauty is not only skin deep. We did a ton of research to create the entire line. Each product is formulated with its own unique blend of essential oils sourced from around the world. A reputable breeder will always test their dogs for these diseases and should be able to show you the medical reports of both parents. If puppies are responsibly bred, then the likelihood of your Springerdoodle developing any of these problems is low. It would be best if you took your dog to visit the vet regularly, especially as they get older. Identifying and treating any issues as soon as they arise will ensure your dog lives a healthy, long life. What is the lifespan of a Springerdoodle? Springerdoodles are hardy dogs that generally live for 10 to 15 years. Miniature-sized Springerdoodles tend to live longer than standard-sized ones. Diet Feeding your Springerdoodle a balanced diet will keep them healthy and full of energy. They need to eat good quality, high-protein dog food for their development stage. Your Springerdoodle will benefit from a homemade or raw diet if they get all the necessary nutrients. Springerdoodles are not gluttons, like Labradors, so there is less risk that they will overeat. However, to ensure your Springerdoodle maintains a healthy weight, you need to pay attention to their portion sizes and adjust according to their age, size, and activity levels. Exercise The Springer Spaniel Poodle mix has heaps of energy, but this is not to say that they cannot live in apartments or smaller homes. They can adapt to less space if you give them the necessary exercise. Full-grown Springerdoodles need at least an hour of exercise every day. If they do not have a mental and physical outlet for their energy, they can develop behavior problems and become destructive. Daily walks, runs, and visits to the dog park are a must! Springerdoodles enjoy a wide range of activities. They love to swim, go for runs and walks with their family, play fetch, and goof around. Agility courses are great for exercising these athletic dogs. Their fur can be straight, wavy, or curly, and they can have a long or medium-length, double-layered coat. The generation affects coat type. A first generation, or f1 Springerdoodle, will have a coat that is medium to long in length. It will be curly or wavy. Due to the backcross, an f1b Springerdoodle will have a very curly coat similar to the Poodle coat. Springerdoodles with very soft fur are prone to getting tangles and mats. Therefore, it is essential to groom them consistently to maintain their coat. How frequently you need to brush them depends on their fur type. Poodle-like fur requires more effort than Spaniel-like fur. Brushing their coat daily keeps mats and knots at bay, removes twigs and debris, and minimizes shedding. A Springerdoodle with a well-kept coat may not shed at all! Their fur can be thick, so to keep them cool during summer, it helps to clip their coat. Springerdoodles do not require frequent bathing, but you should brush their teeth regularly and clean their ears. Like all dogs, their nails should be clipped short. How much do Springerdoodles cost? This depends on size, coat type, coloration, gender, and generation. Possibly the only negative thing about Springerdoodles is their price. If you want a Springerdoodle puppy, you must be willing to pay a hefty amount. As a relatively new and fashionable breed, Springerdoodle puppies are rare. Miniature Springerdoodles are more expensive than standard-sized ones. Female Springerdoodles are slightly more expensive than male Springerdoodles. A female Springerdoodle may be more expensive due to breeding potential. Coat color and pattern make the most significant difference in the price of a Springerdoodle puppy. Merle Springerdoodle puppies are expected to be some of the highest priced. Unique coat patterns like phantom, tuxedo, or parti will increase the price. Springerdoodle Breeders Finding a good breeder is the most important step in getting a new puppy. Avoid pet shops and puppy mills at all costs! Family-raised puppies are of a higher quality and are far more ethical to buy. But where does one even begin looking for a Springerdoodle breeder? The best places to start searching are the kennel clubs that recognize Springerdoodles. Doing your homework before committing to a breeder is important. Reputable breeders should have no problem providing this information. FAQs Here, I try to answer some common questions about this breed. Are Springerdoodles hypoallergenic? No dog is actually hypoallergenic. Depending on the nature of the coat they inherit from their parents, Springerdoodles can be low-shedding. Springerdoodles with a straighter, more Spaniel-like coat tend to shed a little. However, if you brush them often, you can minimize shedding to the extent that they are almost hypoallergenic. What is the difference between Springerdoodles and Goldendoodles? Goldendoodles and Springerdoodles look very similar and have the same sweet personality. Goldendoodles are a mixture between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. Compared to Springerdoodles, Goldendoodles are a little larger in size, and they are lighter in color. Can I adopt a Springerdoodle? Unfortunately, Springerdoodles can rarely be adopted because few dog shelters specialize in designer dog breeds. Due to the high demand of Doodles, these dogs rarely end up in regular dog shelters. Are Springerdoodles good with young children? Yes, they are pretty good with children. However, it is recommended to supervise your Springerdoodle when they play with children and babies. Their energy and strength can sometimes be overwhelming to young ones. Do Springerdoodles like water? Springerdoodles love water. They are naturals when it comes to swimming. They inherit their love for water from both parent breeds: the Poodle and Springer Spaniel. Be careful near pools, ponds, or lakes because your Springerdoodle will want to jump right in! Final Thoughts In this article, I covered: History of the parent breeds What a Springerdoodle looks like Personality and Traits Health of a Springerdoodle Price of a Springerdoodle puppy Springerdoodles are one of the best breeds for a family dog. They have all the qualities you could hope for in a canine companion — an endearing expression, a loving, gentle nature, and the playfulness and energy to keep up with the kids. If you want an active, social, and intelligent dog, a Springerdoodle is the dog for you! Depending on the size of your home, you can get a Mini Springerdoodle or a standard Springerdoodle. The only drawback to these stunning dogs is how expensive they are. Related Posts Looking for other Spaniel-Poodle mixes? The Australian Goldendoodle is a mix between a Cocker Spaniel and few other breeds. Kevin is a proud Bernedoodle owner and Doodle dog fanatic. Read how a chance encounter with two Bernedoodles spurred a lifelong passion here. If you want to get in contact with Kevin, you can send him a message. Springerpoo Retriever Description The Springerdoodle is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the English Springer Spaniel and the Poodle. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. They have beautiful, soft, wavy coats, and they tend to shed less than some of the other Doodles. She is very low- to non-shedding. We rescued him from a local shelter. He has a great sense of humor and always makes us laugh. He is sweet, friendly to all people and animals , affectionate and very gentle. He has an awesome personality. He is quite high energy and needs daily walks. He is well-known by the ladies in our vet's office and the ladies at the local bank drive-thru. Also, most people in our neighborhood know and love Rudy! He should be around pounds when full grown. His father is a white Miniature Poodle whilst his mother is a tan and white English Springer Spaniel. We live in Wales, UK, where Zippy loves running around the hills chasing birds he never catches!! He is a very intelligent dog, which has made all aspects of training very easy. Housetraining was almost instant, and his obedience is excellent considering his age. He is very friendly and loves children. He has become a much loved family member. While first-generation dogs are the most common here, some breeders may opt for other variations simply because breeding lines of multi-gen dogs using Springerdoodle parents crossed back to Poodles makes it easier to create puppies with more predictable coats, colors, and other traits. This is also the case when breeding for smaller-sized dogs. Although usually, the best option here would be to go for a Cockapoo instead. Springerdoodle Health Benefitting from something known as hybrid vigor better health through a wider variety of genes , Springerdoodles typically live somewhere between 12 and 15 years. Exactly where they sit on this line will be, in part, determined by their size and gender. Smaller dogs tend to outlive their larger cousins meaning your Mini SpringerD will likely be on the higher end of that approximation, whereas you might expect your Standard SpringerD to be on the lower end. Females also usually outlast males — as is the case with all species. Obviously, care will factor in quite a lot here. You will want to ensure you are feeding your pup the very best kinds of kibble to keep them in tip-top condition, and that you are giving them plenty of exercise too. Regular vet visits are a must as the pros will know what health conditions to look out for with these particular dogs. This latter problem mainly affects medium-to-large dogs, especially as they start to get on in years. However, they can also be a little on the stubborn side if they are not entirely down with what you are asking them to do. If not, there are some great in-person and online schools where you can learn the best approach. They will need plenty of regular walks to keep them happy. With two water-loving breeds in the mix, chances are your puppy will love nothing more than tramping through every puddle. If you can spend time in a place where they can swim and enjoy the water, the more the better. A nice big yard will serve these dogs very well, especially if you and your family have plenty of time to chuck about a ball for them. Otherwise, having some toys around that, your SpingerD can use to entertain themselves is a good idea. The Kong Classic Dog Toy is a particular favorite among Doodle owners — especially those with super high energy hounds. The Poodle and the Springer Spaniel have massively different hair types. Your pup could easily inherit either, no matter what the breeder might try and tell you. While this may seem the best coat of the canine world, it actually takes far more work than you would think. The Spaniel coat, on the other hand, is double-layered, often wavy with feathering around the ears, legs, and tail. These dogs shed moderately throughout the year, and they also need quite frequent grooming to prevent knots and tangles. Two-to-three times a week will probably be enough to keep hair out of your house, with regular trims thrown in on top of that. Genetics being what they are, it might be the case that your Springerdoodle ends up with some crazy combination of the two-parent pup coats. This could be curly, wavy, straight, long, short, single-layered, or double-layered — basically, anything goes. The best combination in terms of grooming would be wavy, short, and single-layered. Many Doodle parents opt to take their pooch to the groomers on a regular basis to stay on top of their coat care. While Doodle breeders are on the rise, most of them tend to specialize in the more common Goldendoodles, Bernedoodles, etc. This might make finding a Springerdoodle a little more challenging. A good place to start is our breeder directory. It pays to really do your research here. There are plenty of scammers around who will happily take your money and puppy mill facilities that breed poor-quality animals. These are the red flags to watch out for regarding both of these. Springerdoodles, with their loyal, affectionate spirits, make excellent family pets. However, as these dogs tend to be a little on the larger side and a lot with the energy, they are perhaps better suited to an active household with teens and older children rather than one with younger kids and babies about. Are Springerdoodles bigger than Cockapoos? Usually, a Springerdoodle would be bigger than a Cockapoo simply because Springer Spaniels are larger than Cocker Spaniels. That being said, there is some crossover because of the different size variations of both dogs. A Maxi Cockapoo could very well outweigh a Mini Springerdoodle and maybe even some Standard-sized ones too. Do Springerdoodles bark a lot? Springerdoodles are not known to be barking dogs, which means that if you are in search of a watchdog, then you should probably look elsewhere. However, SpringerDs might get a little vocal when playing, likewise if they are left alone and are unhappy about it. These dogs do better in a place where there is always someone around to play with. Springerdoodles are not among the more well-known of the Doodles. However, they deserve plenty of recognition because of the delightful dogs they are. If you like the sound of a companion pup to accompany you on long walks, days in the park, and more than this could be the right choice for you. They are sociable dogs by nature and want to always be surrounded by family. You Might Also Like.
Sasha can ONLY be adopted to a home with older children or all adults. Sasha is NOT good with cats. Sasha will be spayed in July .Sasha is a sweet-natured German Shepherd that is approximately 5 years old. She is almost completely blind, may see some shadows when close to something, Sasha is very smart and learns quickly. She is already getting Sit, Come, and her name. However, she does not beg while her foster Mom is eating, she lays down to rest during that time. Within a week, she attached to her foster Mommy and has been so eager to please. Sasha is completely house broken and has had zero accidents since arriving to her foster home. She is almost trustworthy in the house, unless there is food on the counter, or she can get to paper towels or toilet paper LOL. However, training can help her learn boundaries. Sasha should have a fenced yard to roam. In addition, she needs to go to a dog-experienced home that will continue working with her commands to make her the best dog she can be. She would do best in a home as either the only dog, or with another dog her size or larger that is calm and non-reactive. Also willing to do slow introductions so the dogs can get used to each other. Sasha is not aggressive towards another dog, but defensive since she cannot see what the other dog is doing. She was a stray that went to a shelter, so no telling what her past time was like. Sasha just wants a forever home with people that will love her and she will give so much love back. German Shepherds are eager to please and loyal to those that love them. Final Thoughts Why is hydration important? Hydration is one of the most crucial factors in the health of a German Shepherd. When a German Shepherd loses more fluid than it is taking in, it will start to dehydrate. German Shepherds rely on hydration through water and food, in the same way, that other mammals do. This hydration allows their body to retain normal function, such as lubricating joints and regulating the temperature of the body. A German Shepherd will naturally lose water during the day from things such as panting, urinating and exercise. Keeping your GSD well hydrated will prevent serious health complications, alongside providing other benefits. The water helps in maintaining normal bodily functions, which includes the digestive system. If a GSD is not receiving enough water then the ability for food to be digested fully is diminished, which can result in food not being broken down properly. This can then result in your Shepherd becoming deficient in essential nutrients and causing a further knock-on affect to the body. Removing waste toxins in the body It goes without saying than any waste toxins within the body need to be removed as soon as possible, through urination and defecation. The toxins themselves are not immediately harmful to the body, provided they are removed accordingly before they become too highly concentrated. These toxins are filtered from the kidneys and using water are excreted from the body, which is aided by ensuring your German Shepherd is well hydrated. This is often the case when it comes to food and water too, as a dog will typically have a behaviour pattern they follow. This behavioural shift could come in the form of increasing the amount of water they drink, drinking less water, or even no water at all. How much water should an adult German Shepherd Drink? The primary deciding factor for the amount of water that a dog requires per day is its weight. Under the assumption that the dog is in a healthy condition, the dog will typically require an estimated 1 oz of water intake per pound of body weight, each day. It will also differ between male and female dogs due to the difference in the average body weights between the two genders. Therefore, a male German Shepherd weighing in between 66 — 88lbs, would require between 66 — 88 oz of water intake per day to maintain normal function. In comparison, a female German Shepherd weighing in between 48 — 70lbs, would require 48 — 70 oz of water intake per day to maintain normal function. However, this is a rule of thumb and should be followed with caution. How much water should a puppy be drinking? Whilst you would expect a young German Shepherd puppy to drink far less than their adult counterpart, you would actually be surprised to hear that they often require more. However, as they are eventually weaned off of the milk, they will require a source of water and solid food, which needs to be provided in accordance to their weight and activity levels. Your young German Shepherd puppy requires regular hydration in the form of one-half cup of water during each two-hour period of the day. As the German Shepherd puppies continue to grow in size and weight their water intake will too. This can vary from 0. Frequently weighing the puppies will help to ensure you are always providing the right balance of both food and water for them and keep them in good health. How much water should a German Shepherd Drink? Whilst the required water intake of a German Shepherd will primarily be based upon their body weight, there are other factors to consider that can also contribute to increased water consumption. If your property is climate controlled then this may not be as much of a concern whilst indoors, however you will still need to consider the climate when taking your dog for regular exercise. The Weather Weather changes will result in you taking appropriate action based upon the varying conditions each day. Therefore, if the weather is sunny and warm you will need to consider areas of shade and additional water for your German Shepherd to be comfortable and remain hydrated. Diet If your German Shepherd is fed on a dry food diet then a continuously available water supply is strongly recommended, especially during feeding times. As your dog will not be receiving any water from the food itself and will, therefore, require an alternative source of water in order to stay well hydrated. Further information will follow below to discuss the benefits of water food in comparison to dry dog food. New or existing health conditions If your German Shepherd has any new or existing health conditions, then this could impact their water intake and should be accounted for. These conditions could include Kidney disease and Diabetes, in which an excessive amount of water is lost and must be replenished accordingly. It is therefore important to monitor for any changes in drinking behavior that could indicate a significant cause for concern. If you are taking your German Shepherd for walks, playing catch or other physical activities then it is perfectly normal for more water to be consumed during and after these activities. German Shepherds are a naturally active breed of dog and therefore may consume more water than you expect, if you have been accustomed to another breed of dog for example. Therefore, it is important to keep all of these factors into consideration and determine what their habits are and identify any changes you have noticed. How to check for dehydration? Dehydration is a serious concern for all dogs, so knowing the symptoms of dehydration can help you to tackle the problem before it causes serious health concerns. Water is an important part of the overall metabolic process, which includes digestion, brain activity, blood flow, and breathing, as well as kidney and liver function. It also helps young dogs grow big and strong. Recommended Videos And, since a dog cools by panting, drinking water is essential for replacing the moisture that evaporates from their tongues, nasal passages, and lungs during the process. Lastly, a well-hydrated dog has a moist nose, which aids in their ability to smell. One of the best ways to make sure your puppy is drinking enough water is to set up a schedule. Instead of leaving a bowl out for them to drink at will, ration their intake. Every few hours, measure the appropriate amount of water into their drinking bowl and call your puppy. Encourage your pup to drink the water, and when they do, reward them with praise and a few minutes of playtime. When you add potty training to the mix, you need to be mindful of a few other factors. First, you want to reduce water intake at night since the goal is to work your pup up to a full 8 hours of sleep. Make sure they get a drink after the evening walk, say half an hour to an hour following a meal. Then put the bowl away for the night. This works especially well if you otherwise confirm that Fido has had enough liquid during the day. Overheating and illnesses, especially those that include vomiting, diarrhea, and fever, put puppies at risk of dehydration. Chewing on ice cubes adds an element of fun while it aids in hydration. Flavor drinking water with chicken or beef broth. Put a treat at the bottom of the bowl. Overhydration If it seems your puppy is drinking too much water, pay attention. Dogs, and puppies, in particular, are super curious. Your little buddy may just be playing in the water bowl, which is more of a behavioral issue than a medical problem. But if you think your puppy is doing more drinking than playing, they may have an underlying medical issue that needs to be addressed immediately. Symptoms of overhydration include:. When do puppies start drinking water? Before you even bring your puppy home , they will have already been introduced to to drinking water. Puppies start drinking water at around 3 - 4 weeks of age, at the same time they switch from milk to solid food and once their teeth have started to grow. How much water should a puppy drink? As a general rule of thumb, a puppy needs approximately 30ml 1oz of water per 0. However, the exact amount of water needed to keep them happy and healthy will vary, as each and every puppy is wonderfully unique. As a first time dog owner, you might be wondering how long a puppy can go without water, in which case the below information can help. Do puppies need water at night? Unless your puppy is unwell or suffering from a medical condition, you should avoid leaving water out for them at night. Most puppies over the age of 12 weeks can go without water for 8 hours, but it's inevitable that you may wake up to a mess every now and then. Young dogs under 12 weeks are not able to hold their bladder for too long, and up until around 9 months old they're likely to need the toilet with 10 - 30 minutes of having a drink. By stopping water intake before bedtime, you limit the number of night time wake up calls and decrease the chances of any accidents occurring. This is primarily the case during toilet training, before a puppy becomes a dog and is still learning the ropes. Over time, your puppy will start to settle and sleep through the night, and when this happens, you won't need to remove their water anymore. Refilling their bowl with fresh water can also encourage healthy puppy hydration. Reward them when they drink, using treats or positive praise. Grab some ice cubes - Whether you drop them in their water bowl, or give them a cube to suck on and chew, this can be a great way to get more water in them without forcing them to drink from their bowl. You could also add a little water or wet food to their dry kibble, or switch out some of their treats with high water content foods like cucumber or watermelon, or even dog ice lollies if you notice your dog wont drink water but will eat. Start by adding warm water to their dry food. This will create a soup like consistency and give them a chance to slurp up the water as they eat, familiarising them with the idea of drinking liquid from a bowl. Use a shallow dish as a puppy water bowl. Praise them when they drink. Each time they go for a sip, reward them with praise so they know this is desirable behaviour. Entice them with ice or taste. My puppy is drinking a lot of water, should I be concerned? Worried your puppy or dog drinking more than usual? This is a natural concern for all dog owners, which is why it's so important to familiarise yourself with what seems normal for your dog. Remember that each dog is unique, but if you notice anything out of the ordinary, you should always contact your vet for advice. Puppies are very susceptible to change, so a simple act of switching their food or increasing their exercise can prompt them to drink more water. Typically this should settle back down in time, but if you notice continued guzzling, closely monitor your pup. Related Articles:. Disease Increased Activity Increased activity leads to more water loss through sweat and panting, hence the need for German Shepherds to drink more to rehydrate and regulate their body temperature. Physical activity is essential for a German Shepherd's health and well-being. However, more activity means more water is required. Like humans, dogs lose water through sweating mainly through their paws and panting. These mechanisms help cool their bodies down, but they must also replace the lost fluids with drinking water. The more intense the activity, the more water your dog will need. For example, after a long walk, run, or play session, it's normal for your German Shepherd to drink more than usual. It's essential to always provide access to clean, fresh water, especially after exercise, to help them replenish lost fluids and prevent dehydration. Hot Weather Hot weather can make German Shepherds drink more water as they lose fluids through panting, a natural cooling mechanism. Thus, they need to consume more water to replace lost fluids. Dogs, including German Shepherds, have different ways of dealing with hot weather than humans. Instead of sweating throughout their bodies, dogs primarily cool themselves down through panting, which leads to a higher rate of water evaporation from their bodies. This evaporation, while helping to cool them down, also significantly loses body water. As the temperature rises, German Shepherds will increase their water consumption to compensate for this water loss and prevent dehydration. Access to fresh, clean water is essential to hydrate your dog during hot weather. Keeping them in a cool, shaded area during the hottest parts of the day is also advisable to minimize heat stress and excessive water loss. Always be aware of the signs of dehydration in dogs, such as excessive panting, dry nose and gums, and decreased activity levels. Diet German Shepherds on a dry diet typically need more water to help facilitate digestion, as dry kibble has a low moisture content compared to wet or raw food. The type of diet a dog follows directly impacts their water needs. While dry food requires your dog to drink more water, it doesn't mean it's an inferior choice. Many pet owners choose kibble for its convenience, long shelf life, and potential dental benefits. However, if you feed your German Shepherd a dry diet, always provide ample fresh, clean water to meet their hydration needs. Monitoring your dog's water intake can help you ensure they're staying hydrated regardless of their diet. Age Age influences water consumption in German Shepherds. Puppies, due to growth and higher activity levels, may drink more. Similarly, older dogs might have health issues increasing their water intake. Both ends of the age spectrum in German Shepherds can see increased water consumption. Puppies are typically more active and are growing rapidly, which necessitates more water. They also have smaller bladders and may drink small amounts frequently. On the other hand, senior dogs may also consume more water. As dogs age, their risk of developing health issues such as kidney disease or diabetes, which can increase thirst, rises. Additionally, older dogs might have a reduced ability to concentrate urine, which can lead to increased water intake. Regardless of age, it's essential to ensure your German Shepherd has access to clean, fresh water at all times and monitor any significant changes in their drinking habits. Regular vet checks can help detect any age-related health issues early. Health Issues Specific health issues, such as diabetes, kidney disease, or urinary tract infections, can make German Shepherds drink more water due to increased thirst, a common symptom of these conditions. Health issues are a significant factor that can influence your German Shepherd's water consumption. Diabetes and kidney disease affect the body's ability to filter and retain water, increasing thirst and urination. Similarly, urinary tract infections can cause discomfort and frequent urination, making your dog drink more water to compensate. Monitoring your German Shepherd's drinking habits and watching for any sudden changes is crucial. An unusual increase in water intake, especially when accompanied by other symptoms like weight loss, changes in appetite, or lethargy, should not be ignored. It may indicate an underlying health issue requiring immediate veterinary attention. Regular vet check-ups can also help in the early detection and management of these conditions, ensuring your pet's health and well-being. Medications Certain medications given to German Shepherds can increase their thirst as a side effect, increasing water intake to quench this thirst and maintain hydration. It's not uncommon for some medications prescribed to your German Shepherd to have side effects, one of which could be increased thirst. For instance, drugs like prednisone, a type of steroid often used to treat inflammation, can cause an increase in water consumption. Similarly, certain medications for heart disease or anti-seizure drugs can also increase thirst. If your German Shepherd starts to drink more water around the same time a new medication has been introduced, the two may be connected. However, it's essential not to stop giving your pet their medication without first consulting your veterinarian. Instead, provide your dog access to clean, fresh water, monitor their intake, and discuss any concerns with your vet during follow-up visits or over the phone. They can offer advice, adjust the dosage, or suggest alternative treatments if necessary. Stress or Anxiety Stress or anxiety can trigger excessive drinking in German Shepherds as part of their coping mechanism. This behavior is often observed during stressful situations or significant changes. Just like humans, dogs can also experience stress and anxiety. Situations such as moving to a new house, adding a new family member, or being left alone for long periods can induce stress in German Shepherds. In response to these stressful situations, some dogs might start drinking more water as a coping mechanism. However, it's crucial to rule out any medical reasons for excessive drinking before attributing it to psychological factors. If you notice that your German Shepherd drinks more water during stressful periods, try to identify and address the stressor. You should introduce changes gradually or use positive reinforcement techniques to reduce stress. Consider seeking advice from a professional dog behaviorist or your vet for persistent issues. Dehydration Dehydration in German Shepherds can lead to increased water intake. When a dog's body lacks sufficient water, it triggers thirst to restore balance and prevent further dehydration. Dehydration, or the lack of enough water in the body, can significantly increase your German Shepherd's water intake. It's a compensatory response by the body to restore fluid balance and prevent dehydration. Preventing dehydration in your German Shepherd is crucial by providing constant access to fresh, clean water. However, if your dog seems excessively thirsty and consumes more water than usual, it's essential to check for other signs of dehydration. These can include dry gums, decreased skin elasticity, and lethargy. If you suspect your dog is dehydrated, consult a vet immediately. Prompt rehydration, often requiring veterinary intervention, is key to preventing serious complications. Pregnancy or Lactation Pregnant or lactating German Shepherds require more water due to the increased demands of carrying and nourishing puppies, leading to an increased water intake. The gestation and lactation period place unique demands on a female German Shepherd's body, increasing the need for water. When pregnant, a dog's body works harder to nourish the growing puppies, leading to an increased metabolic rate and, consequently, a higher water demand. This demand increases even more during lactation. Producing milk to feed the puppies requires a substantial amount of water. As such, it's perfectly normal for a lactating German Shepherd to drink more water than usual. To support your dog during pregnancy and lactation, ensure she has constant access to clean water. Monitor her drinking and overall health closely, and maintain regular veterinary check-ups. If any sudden changes or if she shows signs of distress, lethargy, or decreased appetite, seek veterinary care immediately. Specific diseases can significantly influence a German Shepherd's water consumption. Similarly, liver disease can interfere with the body's ability to manage water and electrolyte balance properly, leading to increased water intake. These diseases, along with others like kidney disease or diabetes, often present increased thirst and urination as early symptoms. If your German Shepherd drinks more water than usual, it could indicate an underlying health issue. Therefore, it's essential to recognize sudden changes in your dog's water intake. If your German Shepherd is consuming water excessively, especially if accompanied by other signs like changes in appetite, lethargy, or unusual behavior, consult with your veterinarian as soon as possible. Timely diagnosis and treatment can significantly improve the prognosis for most diseases. Do German Shepherds like drinking water? Water is crucial for all dogs, including German Shepherds, for survival and optimal health. It serves various bodily functions - it aids digestion, helps absorb nutrients, maintains body temperature, lubricates joints, and facilitates many other physiological processes. While German Shepherds enjoy drinking water, their intake can vary based on their size, age, diet, activity level, and health status. It's essential to always provide your German Shepherd with access to clean, fresh water and to monitor their drinking habits. Changes in their water intake can sometimes indicate health issues, so if you notice your German Shepherd drinking significantly more or less than usual, it would be wise to consult with a vet. Should I worry if my dog is drinking too much water? Yes, you should be concerned if your dog is drinking excessively. If you notice your dog is drinking excessively, it's crucial to consult with your vet as soon as possible. Early diagnosis often leads to more effective treatment and a better prognosis. Remember, while it's normal for a dog's water consumption to vary depending on their diet, activity level, and the weather, a sudden or dramatic increase in drinking is often a cause for concern. Always keep an eye on changes in your pet's behaviors, as they could be communicating their discomfort or the onset of an illness. Regular veterinary check-ups can also help detect any health issues early. German Shepherd puppy obsessed with drinking water A German Shepherd puppy's obsession with drinking water could be experiencing high thirst due to increased activity, diet, or potential health issues. Consult a vet if concerned. A German Shepherd puppy obsessed with drinking water may seem unusual, but it could be due to various factors. Given their high energy levels and rapid growth, Puppies consume more water. Also, if fed a mostly dry kibble diet, they may drink more water to help digestion. However, if your puppy's water obsession seems excessive or is accompanied by other concerning behaviors such as frequent urination, lethargy, or changes in appetite, it could indicate a health issue. Conditions like urinary tract infections, diabetes, or kidney disease could cause increased thirst. It's essential to monitor your puppy's behavior and water consumption closely. If you're concerned about your German Shepherd puppy's obsession with water, it would be prudent to consult with a vet for guidance. Final words Understanding your German Shepherd's water needs is essential for their health and well-being. Therefore, always watch for any significant changes in your pet's drinking habits and seek veterinary advice. Remember, whether an adult German Shepherd or a lively puppy, always provide constant access to clean water. Monitoring and understanding your pet's water needs can contribute significantly to your German Shepherd's happy, healthy, and active life. Frequently asked questions Do you still have questions? Check our FAQ section, and you can find your answer here! The number of bowls a German Shepherd drinks can vary, but generally, they need about 0. Depending on bowl size, this can equate to bowls for an average adult dog. Remember, it's more important to measure your dog's water intake based on weight rather than the number of bowls they consume. Age, diet, weather, and activity level can also influence how much water your German Shepherd should drink. Always ensure they have access to clean, fresh water, and consult with your vet if you notice any drastic changes in their drinking habits. A German Shepherd puppy should drink approximately one-half cup of water every two hours. That equates to about cups of water daily, which can vary depending on age, diet, and activity level. Remember, puppies are more active and may require more water than adult dogs. Always ensure your German Shepherd puppy has access to fresh, clean water and adjust the amounts as they grow and their needs change. If you notice excessive thirst, it's a good idea to consult with your vet. Breed Info If you are thinking of getting a German Shepherd you may have wondered do German Shepherds drink a lot of water? This article will answer that question, explain how much water your GSD should be drinking on a daily basis, and things that could cause your German Shepherd to drink more water than normal. Yes, German Shepherds are large dogs and as such will drink more water than a smaller dog. In addition, German Shepherds are very active so they will need more water to keep hydrated than more sedentary dogs. Normally, dogs should drink an ounce of water for every pound they weigh on a daily basis, but I found that many German Shepherds drink a little more than one ounce per pound. My German Shepherd is 72 pounds, so that means she should be consuming around 72 ounces of water daily. However, there are various conditions that could cause your German Shepherd to need to drink more than this on a regular basis. If it seems like your dog is drinking excessively, look to see if any of the below conditions are present that would increase their need for water. When it is hot outside, your GSD will drink more as a way of cooling themselves down. Conversely, colder air tends to be drier, and the dry air can make your dog dehydrated, thus you may find your pup drinking more in the wintertime as well. Exercise Another reason your German Shepherd will drink a lot of water is because they have been physically active. Just like humans get thirsty when exercising, so do dogs. So, if your GSD just finished running around, expect them to be thirstier than normal. Medication There are a lot of medications that have the side effect of causing thirst in dogs. When my girl was put on antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory, the vet told me to expect her to need more water than normal. If your dog was just put on a new medication, that could be the cause of the extra drinking, but check with your vet to be certain. Illnesses Another reason a German Shepherd will drink more water is because they have some sort of illness. Conditions such as cancer, liver disease and diabetes require your dog to drink more water and their body tries to fight off the illness. Also, as stated above, sometimes the medications they are on to help with the illness also increases their thirst. Diet What your dog eats directly affects how much they drink. Dogs that consume a dry kibble will usually need more to drink than a dog that is on a wet food diet. Also, if you give your dog the occasional human food treat like peanut butter , bread , bacon , or fries you may find that they drink more after consuming these foods. Food that are dry, sticky, or salty will cause your dog to take some extra trips to the water bowl. Age Age is another factor is to consider when looking at water consumption. Puppies are known for drinking quite a bit. This is normal though because as your GSD pup is growing their bodies need more water to support their developing system. Older dogs can also drink more because elderly dogs are more prone to developing conditions that would cause thirst such as diabetes, various infections, liver or kidney disease among other illnesses. If you have an older dog that has been drinking more than normal, make an appointment with the vet just to be sure nothing more serious than dehydration is going on. Final Thoughts German Shepherds can definitely drink more water than some other dog breeds. Heavier water consumption is normal for a large active breed like German Shepherds but there are also other factors that can cause your dog to drink more such as age, illness, medication and the weather. An automatic water bowl is a great tool for providing fresh water all day long. This behavior may warrant a visit to the vet, especially if your dog is showing other concerning symptoms. Here are the most common reasons for German Shepherds that drink a lot of water. Your German Shepherd has a Medical Illness A medical condition can most often lead to an increased thirst. Your German Shepherd may be affected by infections like urinary tract infection or longer-term conditions like diabetes. The vet will observe and ask about a number of symptoms and may also request a urine and blood test for further diagnosis. For example, German Shepherds that eat too much dry food may drink a lot more water than usual. Dog foods like kibble contain very little water content so the German Shepherd will need to compensate that by drinking more water. The same applies for high-sodium food, which should be avoided for a number of health reasons. Large amounts of salt consumption can lead to sodium poisoning so make sure your German Shepherd stays away from such treats. Your German Shepherd is Feeling Hot German shepherds are able to tolerate hot summer weather but not for too long of a period. You may notice the dog is always trying to look for a cool shaded spot to rest in. If you have a backyard then the German Shepherd may also try to dig a hole to rest in. Large dog breeds like German Shepherds will need a decent amount of water to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Generally-speaking, an adult dog will need up to 2. Jan Reisen points out that how much puppy drinks depends on activity level, size, and age. Puppies consume more water than adults. When puppies start eating solid food, half a cup of water every two hours is reasonable. After weaning, a puppy needs half an ounce to an ounce of water per pound of body weight. An eight-week-old puppy might require 20 ounces of water daily. One of the reasons water is so vital to your German Shepherd puppy is because of its influence on the metabolic process. This process includes breathing, blood flow, brain activity, and digestion. Sufficient water, which makes up most of the blood supply, allows the blood to transport oxygen and clear away toxins that can harm your puppy. Because insufficient water negatively impacts this process, a dog is at risk of organ damage. How much water your puppy gets also allows them to regulate their body temperature. However, panting is a double-edged sword, in that your puppy loses more water during this process. When hot weather or heavy physical exertion is making your puppy pant more, the dog will require more water. When everything functions correctly, your dog will have an appropriate energy level. An adequate energy level helps ensure proper health. Taking up the water at night is a good idea, although you will need to make sure you have a consistent schedule. Water and food for your puppy should be taken up two or three hours before your family usually goes to bed. Any changes in how much your puppy drinks may require closer evaluation at your next vet visit. Even young German Shepherd puppies have good instincts about self-regulating their water usage. However, diarrhea, excessive urination, fever, and vomiting can all dehydrate your puppy. A diet of too much dry food can also cause dehydration. Making sure you know the dehydration signs so you can check your puppy for them makes a difference. Wendy Bedwell-Wilson emphasizes the importance of proper hydration and also points out a couple of ways to find out if your dog is adequately hydrated. Skin that snaps back into place is a sign of a well-hydrated dog, while skin that slowly snaps back is a sign of dehydration. Sticky or day gums are a sign of dehydration. Also, gently press their gums and see how long it takes for them to change back to a healthy pink color, no more than three seconds. When your German Shepherd puppy is mildly dehydrated, gradually give them smaller sips of water. Ice cubes can help provide extra hydration relatively quickly. You can also try an electrolyte powder mix, as these are quite effective. If your puppy is severely dehydrated, evidenced by a loss of skin elasticity, consider this situation a medical emergency. When your puppy has severe dehydration, IV fluids may be necessary to restore proper fluids. However, there are a few things you can do to encourage more drinking. The cleaner both the water and the bowl are, the more they will entice your dog. When you see your puppy drinking water out of the bowl, praise the dog and give them a treat. German Shepherds are very responsive to rewards, and associating drinking water with a reward will encourage them to do so even without prompting on your part. Offering the water in the form of ice cubes can be an enticement for a dog. Dogs often love ice cubes as a treat that provides plenty of amusement. Another bonus is that, if your puppy is teething, the ice cubes can provide relief. Using chicken or bone broth to flavor the water can also entice your dog to drink more of it. Sometimes the added flavor provides an incentive that water alone does not. However, make sure you check the water for freshness because broth can spoil. Sometimes, all you need to do is make water a little more interesting for your puppy. Dogs love the variety as much as we do. Your German Shepherd Dog can, in fact, consume too much water. Overhydrating, also known as water intoxication, can be just as dangerous as dehydration in its own way. If your puppy is showing symptoms, veterinary help might be necessary. When your dog plays in the water a lot of swims, they may accidentally swallow too much water. Drinking too much water at one time can also lead to this problem. It is important to always supervise your dog around water. Water intoxication can make your dog feel very sluggish and lose coordination, including having a staggering gait. Nausea, vomiting, and bloating are some of the gastrointestinal symptoms that might occur. Dilated pupils, excessive drooling , and pale gums are also signs of water intoxication. When your dog has these symptoms after having had a lot of water to drink or has been swimming, overhydration is very likely. Top Dog Tips highlights the importance of seeking veterinary help. More severe symptoms might include difficulty breathing, collapse, coma, or even death. Possible treatments include IV fluids for electrolyte balance, diuretics to help the dog urinate, and mannitol in case water intoxication has caused cranial pressure. Any water ingested can still be absorbed without intervention. There is nothing wrong with innocent water play, as seen in this video.

We in fact have an entire post dedicated to them which can be found here. Crate or kennel A top-quality kennel or crate will be imperative depending on where the pup is going to sleep. Toys When the pup enters your house for the first time, it is natural for him to feel nervous and a little scared of his new surroundings. It is your duty to make him feel safe and at ease while stepping into your abode for the first time. Since it is the natural tendency of the pups to explore the surroundings using their mouth, this might involve lots of undesirable chewing on your items and belongings. Soft chew toys will allow the naughty animals to divert their minds preventing munching on your clothing, electric cords, and shoes. Appropriate play toys are a must if you always want to keep your bulldog in top mental health. Food and water bowls Your new bulldog pup will need to drink plenty of water during the day and he will consume his favorite snacks too. For this, you will need at least two bowls, once for water and one for food. Treats A lot of training teats will be necessary for the bulldog pup given that the initial few weeks are going to involve lots of lessons. You can reward your pooch with these treats when he or she listens to your commands and for good behavior. Vet-approved dog food Vets will recommend providing your pet with food items that will supply them with all the essential minerals and vitamins that they need for their development into a healthy adult canine. They will come in handy when you start toilet training too. There are great biodegradable options out there. Walking harness A well-designed lead and harness will allow the bulldog to run in a smooth and effortless manner. Care services that need to be lined up Owning a bulldog puppy is one of the most joyous experiences on earth. However, it is not an easy job to parent a new puppy. Below, we have provided a guide which will help you to care of your new family member in the best possible way. Find a good vet The first and foremost thing you need to do is to find an experienced vet for your bulldog. If you brought the pup from any shelter, feel free to ask for their advice too. Local dog groomers and walkers can also help you a great deal in this matter. Make the most of the initial visit to the vet Ask your vet for food recommendations, how frequently you should feed, and what portion size to offer your dog. Watch out for any early sign of illness During the initial few months, bulldog pups can suffer from illnesses that can creep up suddenly if not detected early. Below, are some symptoms that if you notice, you should contact your vet right away. Contact Us How to house train a English bulldog puppy the right way The easiest way to go about house training your new bulldog puppy is by utilizing a crate. Dogs are and always have been den and pack animals, they naturally and instinctively prefer the shelter of a den. Therefore most dogs will not urinate or defecate in their crate, which is why it is such an invaluable tool for housebreaking. The first thing to understand, though, is the need for repetition and consistency. Begin by purchasing the appropriate size crate. Think den not condo! It should be small with just enough room for your bulldog to stand up, turn around and lie down comfortably. It is not an exercise pen. The use of too large a crate will encourage your bulldog puppy to use a small portion of it for a bed and the rest of it as a place to potty. We use the Midwest Life Stages crates. Leave the crate door open and allow your bulldog puppy to come and go as he pleases. Keep his favorite treats handy that you only use for the crate. It gives the puppy a nice reason to go in and creates a positive experience. At mealtimes, feed your bulldog in the crate with the door closed. At night, just before bedtime take your bulldog puppy out to potty. Put your puppy in his crate and shut the door. For the first 3 nights set your alarm for 3 hours. Set him down and wait. When he goes potty, praise him and put him back in his crate. Set your alarm for 3 more hours and repeat. After three days, if it has been successful and there have been no accidents, move to 4-hour intervals. After three more nights, you have hopefully taught your puppy that you will be there to take him outside when he has to go. If there have been no accidents you can then start going to bed and waiting until your puppy wakes you up to potty. It is important to respond and take him out immediately if he wakes during the night. In the morning, as soon as you wake up, immediately take your puppy out. By house time, I mean freedom to move about but always in the same room as you so that you can keep a constant eye on him. We use baby gates to block off access to other rooms. During the day repeat the above process and continue to take the puppy out every hour. If he does not do his business put him back in his crate and try again in 15 minutes. NEVER let a bulldog puppy in training out of your site. Use the crate as you would a playpen for a human child. Even if you leave the room for a minute, either take the puppy with you or put him in the crate. If you turn your back for 60 seconds and your puppy has an accident, then you messed up and made a mistake and have missed the opportunity to make a correction and teach the puppy. Do not rub his nose in it and do not use any physical correction! When he goes outside give him lots of praise. Use an odor neutralizer. When an accident occurs it is important to completely remove the odor, otherwise your puppy will gravitate back to the area to relieve himself again. You can buy the neutralizers from most any pet store. Do not use household cleaners, most contain ammonia which will attract him back to the same spot. A Few Tips to Help You Succeed Puppies will need to go potty first thing in the morning, after every meal, as soon as they wake up from naps and just before bedtime. A few hours before bedtime take up his water, this will help buy you a litter more time between potty breaks at night. If you see him smelling a particular spot or circling around, pick him up and take him outside. Keep your puppy on a regular feeding schedule and take away his food between meals. Puppies may not initially like the crate. Some will cry, whine, bark and drive you crazy the first couple of days. Doing so will teach your puppy that if he barks or whines long enough he will get rewarded and this will only encourage the behavior. Training an English bulldog puppy takes time, consistency and patience. Dogs function best with structure, routine, and clear expectations. Share this post.

Why buy a puppy that could have health issues later in life? Please buy and shop responsibly, or adopt a dog in need. Are they doing OFA clearances on hips, elbows, eyes, and heart at 2 years of age? Do they recommend not to spay until 2 years of age to ensure hormones help growth plates close properly? Are they showing their dogs in some type of AKC sanctioned event? Conformation, hunt tests, agility, fun sports such as dock diving, etc? This shows the breeder is dedicated to the dog, not the check from breeding. Does the dog have AKC titles? From Canine Good Citizen, to Trick Dog, to Championship Conformation titles — you want your breeder to be helping make the breed better. They should be in every generation, not 3 generations ago. Does it destroy toys, does it eat the wall, do they have to be crated, do they counter surf, are they walked on a simple slip leash or a harness? Nothing against doodles, but ensure your breeder is doing proper health testing and x-rays. You as a buyer need to know that down the line this could lead to health problems and vet bills that could have been avoided. Just because your dog is registered does not make it well bred. You want your breeder dedicated to the breed and only whelping puppies that meet this minimum criteria for well bred dogs. We have 4 puppies still available. german shepherd puppy stop biting - We specialize in breeding Mini Goldendoodles as well as a few other breeds. We also have partnered up with several other high quality breeders that raise mini goldendoodle pups that meet our strict genetic criteria and testing. So we usually have a good selection of very high quality puppies. View Our Available Puppies! Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. An F-1B Goldendoodle has become very popular and is known for its friendly, loving nature paired with its hypoallergenic fur. The resulting dog has the wonderful disposition of a Golden Retriever with the almost non-existent shedding of the Poodle. We are so thankful you decided to visit! We hope the topics below help you get to know us better as you learn about our breeding style and puppies. Our Dogs. They were petrified of all people, but our amazing volunteers have been working hard to make slow and steady progress introducing Angel and Holly to the world. We are seeking a foster home for Angel and Holly together, to help continue their progress. Angel is a little more outgoing than Holly at this point, but they now walk out to the yard on slip leads, and they are letting volunteers pet them and give them treats. Holly was even playing with a ball recently! They especially love being with other dogs check out the recently posted video of them playing! We believe they may need to be separated for adoption in the future, but for right now, we want to continue their stability by transitioning them to a home environment together. Angel and Holly are looking for a special foster home together with a family experienced in the socialization needs of puppy mill dogs. They will need a secure above-ground fenced-in yard and no children under the age of 16 in the house, as they are still considered flight risks. A stable, confident dog in the home will do wonders for helping their progress! We have no information on this time about cats. Their foster home will need to have the time and patience to continue showing them how amazing a family and a home are, but the reward in the end is so worth the time. If you are interested in meeting this beautiful pair, please complete a foster application: grrand.

german shepherd puppy stop biting - And because of their popularity as pets, Cadoodle puppies tend to sell quickly, making them hard to find at any price. Cadoodles are bred from two working dogs. Nearly 2, years ago, a Roman hound was thought to be imported into Scotland and bred with the local herding dogs. The result was an agile dog with strong fortitude and the ability to work in any weather. It was named the Collie, and it became a shepherding dog in the Scottish Highlands. Your Cadoodle might be playful or proud. They could inherit traits of both parents or take after either one. In the case of Cadoodles, the parents are almost complete opposites of each other personality-wise. Collies are playful, fun-loving dogs, and Poodles are proud, aristocratic dogs with attitude. Some Cadoodles are hypoallergenic. One of the characteristics that Poodles are prized for is their hypoallergenic fur. Their coats are thick, dense, and curly. Luckily, these dogs are very agreeable and not at all stubborn like some other breeds, so they train well. You can also train a Cadoodle to learn a job that it will repeat. This is actually great for these dogs because it gives them purpose and helps keep their mind sharp. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Having multiple family members around to engage and play with a Cadoodle is great. If socialized from an early enough age, Cadoodles can be great with children. They love to play games, go on hikes, and be part of the family. Bordoodles love kids and get along well with other animals. They don't usually bark, except to warn of a stranger on your property. Bordoodles are usually hypoallergenic and are low to non-shedding. Bordoodles also excel in agility sports and are super desirable as service dogs due to their high I. We ask that you provide detailed answers whenever possible. Our Bordoodles are very smart, patient, intuitive, and level-headed. These are the ideal traits required in all service dogs regardless of the modality. In addition to our breeding program, Mountain Rose also owns the largest training operation in Utah. In our 8, sq ft facility, located in Morgan, Utah, we specialize in training Bordoodles as well as Sheepadoodles. If you are in need of a service dog, we can help you select a Bordoodle or Sheepadoodle puppy that displays the temperament traits consistent with those found in proven service dogs. You can obtain more information about Bordoodles and Bordoodles service dogs by browsing this site. If you would like to learn more about Sheepadoodle service dogs you can visit www. He can also be a bit stubborn but overall a complete joy. He rings his bell to go out to potty, at only 17 weeks can sit, stay, go down, roll over, leave it when treats are placed on his paws very impressive for a little guy , shake a paw or high 5 and has the best and most entertaining personality. He loves people and from what little interaction he has had with other dogs, seems to love them as well. We couldn't be happier with our newest family member. We really enjoyed meeting all the dogs, especially Flower and Finn. Of course, we also enjoyed the chance to speak with you and your trainers Colton and Daniel. Mountain Rose exceeded our expectations. After getting to play with the dogs in person, learning more about your program and seeing for ourselves how the puppies are being raised, we are even more excited about getting a puppy from Mountain Rose. Our fingers are crossed that Flower comes into heat soon! We also enjoyed seeing the Bordoodles at your daughter's house. Jonathan was very accommodating in showing us all five Bordoodles. They were very excited and fun to meet. Thanks again for your hospitality. She originally had reservations about us buying a Bordoodle. She said that she was unfamiliar with this breed and cautioned us and even advised that we may wish to look at a "purebred" dog. We just wanted to share that with you. He has really fit into our family and it's so fun watching him learn our routine. He's made friends with lots of the neighborhood kids and is super friendly with everyone. I take him to puppy school once a week with our son Carter he's 9 because Carter was having some trouble being the "pack leader" when we first got Gussie, but the puppy school has been great and Gus lights up the second Carter gets off the school bus each day. I attached a couple of pictures for you to see how much he's grown! She's so smart that at 4 months old she can play dead when she is shot with a "bang", she can heal like nobody's business, and she sits like a lady waiting for us to open the door before she goes out or comes in. She gets her treats in her bowl after dinner. All in all she's pretty terrific. He is definitely part of our family and we love him so much. He's such a smart dog! I remember when we first got him, his color was black. You said he would likely lighten up. Here's what he looks like now. Should a Collie Mix take after their Collie parent, they will be a highly intelligent, high-energy, and affectionate dog that loves their families and loves being active with them. Collies tend to be affectionate, friendly, energetic, and playful dogs. They tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. They are easily bored and are happy to have others to play with and activities to do. Should a Collie Mix take after their Collie parent, you should be able to expect a similar temperament. But, the other parent breed will introduce their own potential traits and quirks, so you do want to ask the breeder about them. You can also meet the mother in person to see what her temperament is like and what behavior she is modeling for her puppies. The breeder should have started some socialization and training, but it is up to you to continue to train and socialize a puppy once you get them home. Collies tend to be moderately adaptable dogs. They do better with space where they can run, but they can adapt to apartment living as long as they get enough attention, mental stimulation, and exercise. They do well in cooler temperatures, but are extra sensitive to heat. They also do not like to spend long periods of time alone. The other parent breed could introduce traits that affect adaptability, so you want to make sure you ask the breeder about them. If they are also a moderately adaptable dog breed, then you should be able to expect the same from a Cocker Spaniel Mix. A mixed-breed dog could inherit none of the health conditions common to their parent breeds, but they could inherit all of them or some combination of them. From the Collie side, potential health conditions to be aware of include Canine Cyclic Neutropenia, Collie eye anomaly, and sensitivities to certain drugs. All of these conditions can be identified through genetic testing. Since reputable breeders screen their dogs to avoid passing issues to puppies, you should be asking about the health and genetic history of both of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Collies are highly intelligent. Despite getting bored easily, they do tend to pick up on things quickly and be patient with training. If the other parent breed is also a highly trainable dog breed, then you should be able to expect something similar in a Collie Mix. If the other parent breed tends to be more difficult to train, you should be prepared to enroll in puppy training classes. A mixed-breed dog can inherit a coat similar to one of their parents or one that is a mix of both. Should a Collie Mix inherit the Collie coat, they will shed moderately year-round and shed heavier during seasonal changes. Daily brushing and weekly brushing down to the skin are required while bathing is on an as-needed basis. Cutting nails once or twice a month is usually enough to keep them from growing too long. Checking ears weekly and carefully cleaning them as needed can help prevent ear infections. Gum disease in dogs is serious and can lead to other serious health conditions as well. Daily brushing or use of an enzyme toothpaste, in addition to regular cleanings at the vet, is ideal dental care for dogs. The Collie is a high-energy dog breed. Daily walks plus some playtime and time to run are usually enough for this dog, but they will likely be up for more activity if you are. If the other parent breed is also high energy, then you can expect a Collie Mix to be high energy as well. Even if the other parent breed has a lower energy level, you will still need to be prepared for the possibility of a high-energy dog. Fully-grown Collies tend to stand inches tall and weigh pounds. The other parent breed can have a big effect on this, especially if they are the mother. Collies generally live for years. Although the other parent breed may affect this slightly, you should be able to expect a similar life span in a Collie Mix. Featured Collie Mix Article. A post shared by Turbo cadoodleturbo Appearance The Collie Poodle mix will likely be tall with an athletic build. Their coat may be curly or wavy thanks to the Poodle parent. The length of their coat is likely to be somewhere between medium and long. Coat Type The thick, coarse, and curly coat type is the most distinguishable characteristic of the Poodle. It is evident to the touch when we are petting a Poodle as opposed to other breeds. A Poodle with curly or wavy hair has a strong chance of passing it along to the Cadoodle, but as it combines with the Collie, it should appear medium-length. It may be thick but not coarse enough to fluff and suspend into styles on top of the head, and around the paws, like many Poodles; it will also be longer and thicker than the Collie and style more flatly. Coat Color Poodle hair manifests in just about every color, including apricot, beige, blue, black, brown, cream, gray, red, silver, and white. The primary coat colors are apricot, black, red, and white. Still, the coat colors of the Poodle, in particular, are considered incompletely dominant, making it more challenging to determine which gene will likely become modified. However, the fawn and sable Poodles with dominant alleles, for example, are more likely to continue the lineage of like-colored fawn and sable pups. Size Just about all Collies have a lean and athletic body type that is very muscular. A healthy Collie will appear robust in stature. All Poodles tend to be very lean. It is no surprise that the Cadoodle also has a slim profile. Height The Cadoodle ranges in height between inches. This height range assumes that a Rough Collie is bred with a Standard Poodle. Weight Male Cadoodles range in weight between pounds. A female Cadoodle will weigh between pounds. The adult weight of the Cadoodle will depend on what size Poodle is used for breeding. Because there are three types of Poodles, they have an extensive weight range, anywhere from 7 to 70 lbs. A Standard male Poodle, for example, will typically reach pounds, while the females will weigh several pounds less or between pounds. In comparison, Collies will always carry the weight of a medium-sized dog, weighing pounds, with male Collies typically weighing more pounds than their female counterparts. Collies are great to work dogs and understand various tasks like moving livestock across land and even escorting them into the local market. They are helpful and communicative partners who understand what is happening around them and why. Poodles are similarly active and energetic but may not be as patient and level-headed as the Collie and tend to become snippy and boisterous when they feel threatened or do not like what they see. However, they are not known to be aggressive, and in general, the Poodle needs to be social, preferring to spend the bulk of its time around other people and animals. Both breeds prefer social experiences as part of an active lifestyle and are great dogs for daily assistance with various social and work-related activities. A Cadoodle will be similarly energetic and interactive, requiring various intellectual activities and engagement for its health and happiness. They make for good family dogs and get along with all family members. Like any Poodle mix, the Cadoodle will need plenty of exercise. It will respond well to obedience training at a young age. For example, Collies often suffer from Dermatomyositis — an inflammatory disease marked by red rash and muscle weakness. While Poodles have a predisposition for sebaceous adenitis, another inflammatory disease of the skin, which is associated with many other subsequent disorders, including, Alopecia, bacterial infections in the hair follicle, and different skin and hair issues. Therefore, Cadoodles must be wary of skin and hair health conditions. Prevention might involve avoiding various food and environmental toxins and ingredients that may cause their systems to be unreasonably reactive since, in time; the inflammation could gradually devolve into a disease. Conversely, the Collie parent may suffer from various genetic diseases affecting their stem cells and hormonal functions. The following health problems could affect the Cadoodle: Sebaceous Adenitis.
