Since a mix can take on any combination of traits from their parents, you want to make sure you ask the breeder about the other parent breed in the mix. Should an English Bulldog Mix take after their Bulldog parent, they will be sweet-natured, affectionate, and playful dogs that love being with their families. English Bulldogs are companion breeds that are known for being sweethearts. As long as they are socialized properly, they tend to be excellent with children, other dogs, and other pets. Although watchful, they are even agreeable to strangers once they have been introduced. If the other parent breed has a similar temperament, then you should be able to expect the same from an English Bulldog Mix. You still want to talk to the breeder about the other parent as they are likely to introduce their own quirks. Meeting the mother in person can give you an idea of her temperament and the behavior she is modeling for her puppies. Although the breeder should have started some training and socialization, it is your responsibility to continue training and socializing a puppy once you get them home to ensure they grow into a well-rounded, well-behaved dog. Although English Bulldogs adapt to most living situations, they are sensitive to hot and cold, and are particularly sensitive to heat. They also do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. This makes them a moderately adaptable dog breed. The other parent breed could introduce some traits that affect adaptability so you do want to ask the breeder about them. A mix could inherit conditions common to neither of their parent breeds, one of them, or even both of them. From the English Bulldog, potential health concerns to be aware of in an English Bulldog Mix include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, Entropion, and Cherry Eye. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to prevent passing issues to puppies, so make sure you are asking about the health history of both of the parents. Although English Bulldogs can be stubborn, they are generally eager to please and are highly trainable dogs. They tend to be a good fit for owners of all experience levels and respond well to consistent training that is focused on positive reward and praise. If the other parent breed is also highly trainable, then you should be able to expect the same from an English Bulldog Mix. The other parent breed could also introduce the potential for an English Bulldog Mix that is more difficult to train. Mixed-breed dogs can inherit a coat that is a carbon copy of one of their parents or they can end up with a coat that is truly a mix of both. Should an English Bulldog Mix end up with a Bulldog coat, they will shed moderately year-round, require brushing a couple of times a week, and the occasional bath. If they have face wrinkles, you will need to make sure they are clean and dry regularly to prevent skin irritation. Cutting nails once or twice a month keeps them from growing too long. Ear checks on a weekly basis with careful ear cleanings as needed helps prevent ear infections. Daily brushing or use of an enzyme toothpaste is ideal dental care for dogs and can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. English Bulldogs tend to be lower-energy breeds that only require daily walks and some playtime to be happy. But, they will be energetic when they play and might be up for more activity if you are. The other parent breed can affect this. If they are a low-energy breed, then you can expect an English Bulldog Mix to be the same. If the other parent breed requires more daily activity, then you will need to be prepared for that potential range in an English Bulldog Mix puppy. Because they may still be a brachycephalic dog breed, they can overheat, so you want to be careful of overexertion. There are many safe ways to exercise flat-faced dogs to help your English Bulldog Mix get the exercise they need. Fully-grown English Bulldogs usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. The other parent breed can have a big effect on this, especially if they are the mother. An English Bulldog generally lives for years. Although the other parent breed could affect this slightly, you should be able to expect a similar life span in an English Bulldog Mix. Featured English Bulldog Mix Article. Breeding these pooches with other types of dogs minimizes the health problems that the mutt will encounter, without sacrificing their most important trait: their absolute cuteness. This dog is a mix between an English Bulldog and a Jack Russell Terrier, so it usually only weighs 30 pounds at most. These are big dogs, weighing as much as pounds. They tend to look like Rotties but with more of a smushed-in nose. You get a dog that tops out at about 60 pounds but is also long and lean. Bullwhip dogs love to run and have a stubborn streak, so be prepared to spend a great deal of time training them. English Bullhuahua English Bulldog x Chihuahua A post shared by Peyton Roque peytzz To get a Bullhuahua, you have to cross English Bulldogs with Chihuahuas , and the result is a surprisingly big 40—pound lap dog. Their personalities are often friendly and welcoming, but they can have a strong territorial streak like Chihuahuas. The adorable English Bullpit, of course. Catahoula Bulldog English Bulldog x Catahoula Image Credit: haydnd, Adobe Stock Catahoula Bulldogs vary wildly in terms of size; some only weigh 40 pounds or so, while others tip the scales at over pounds. Regardless, you should have a stocky, muscular dog on your hands. These are laidback dogs, and while they enjoy a nice game of tag, they see no need for excessive amounts of exercise. English Bulldogs are typically neither of those things. They often weigh around 50 pounds and are not nearly as smart as their Poodle forebears. They make up for it by being incredibly sweet, however. They often look like a regular Bulldog that somehow got into a box of Rogaine. However, they make up for their lack of security skills with a fair amount of intelligence. They are extremely brachycephalic and are often prone to a whole host of health issues like respiratory problems, heat intolerance, and joint concerns. That generally means cutting back on their rations, because this is one breed that does not like to work out. These medium-sized 40—pound dogs are loving and sociable, but they need a ton of physical stimulation. A Mix for Everyone If you love English Bulldogs but are put off by their propensity for health problems not to mention how expensive purebred puppies can be , consider adopting one of the mixes on this list instead. Every dog listed above is cute as a button and generally healthier than a purebred English Bulldog. Plus, they still retain most of the qualities that make Bulldogs so sought after. Even better, most of these mixes are rare enough that you can have a dog that truly stands out. Cons: The English Bulldog is a breed that originated in England in the 16th century. In general, all dogs need to eat a balanced and nutritious diet that meets their specific needs. Diet: Consult with your veterinarian or a professional pet nutritionist to determine the right type and amount of food for your English Bulldog Pitbull mix. However, there are some pros and cons to consider before getting any dog, and this is especially true for mixed breeds. Pros: Mixed breeds can sometimes have the best traits of both parent breeds. For example, English Bulldogs are known for being calm and gentle, while Pitbulls are known for being intelligent and energetic. An English Bulldog Pitbull mix could have a good balance of both traits. Mixed breeds may have a lower risk of inherited health problems. Purebred dogs can be prone to certain genetic conditions due to inbreeding, but mixed breeds may be less likely to develop these issues. If you have misfortune finding a trustworthy breeder for this hybrid, you can either ask a local veterinarian if they have anyone which they can refer to you or ask breeders of both parent breeds, instead: Our Brindle Bostons OK Weywood Showdogs PA Celestial Pugs CA A legitimate breeder should let you have a visit to their facility or kennels to meet the puppy before finalizing the purchase. This way, you can observe the living conditions of their animals. A visitation would also help make certain that your puppy is a good match for you. It is naturally glossy and can repel most of the dirt or water. You would only need to brush them once or twice every week to make sure that their shedding is kept to a minimum. Brushing using a slicker brush or comb will also help in maintaining the fur healthy and free of dirt or loose hair. This mixed breed does not have a doggy odor, so you can reduce their regular bathing to once a month or only when it is needed. Aside from that, you will also need to clip their nails every few weeks mainly because they will not break off naturally as they mostly stay indoors. You should also regularly clean their ears and check their eyes for any signs of infection. Boston Terrier Mixed with Pug Health Problems Pug Boston Terriers are known to live a long healthy life of 10 to 15 years, with proper care and a healthy diet. Like any other breed, they can also be prone to some health issues that are quite common in their parent breeds. It is important to remember to be cautious as their round bulging eyes are susceptible to injuries and debris could easily get in them. Obesity — Like their Pug parent, these dogs are also voracious eaters. The problem is, they are prone to obesity which can have adverse effects on their health and may even shorten their lifespan. It is very common in old age as their physical activities decrease or become lethargic. Owners should pay close attention to their diet as well as limit the number of treats. Fold Dermatitis — This occurs due to the moisture and heat that builds up in the folds of their skin. These areas become a breeding ground for fungi, yeast, and bacteria. It is much common during summer or hot weather. Brachycephalic Respiratory Syndrome — Also known as congenital obstructive airway disease, it is a common condition among flat-faced dogs. They can suffer from abnormalities like narrowed nostrils, an enlarged tongue, elongated soft palate, Hypoplastic Trachea, and Everted Laryngeal Saccules. Watch out for symptoms like snoring or if they often seem to try to catch their breath. These upper respiratory obstructions cause the dog to work harder to get some air through their airways resulting in distress, over-heating, and exacerbate obstructions. Abnormal Eyelid — This is a genetic condition where the eyelid folds inward. It causes the eyelash or hair to scratch and irritates the eye, which can lead to corneal perforation or ulceration. It is non-preventable and can only be corrected through surgery, especially in severe cases. They love to eat, and they would keep eating as much as they can. The first step in preventing this malicious disease is staying away from the worst dry dog food and limit their food intake to 0. Their diet should consist of high-quality dry dog food with a formula that is best suited for small dog breeds like themselves. The Boston Terrier combined with Pug will thrive on one of these best dry dog food for small dogs. Boston Terrier Pugs Exercise Requirements The Pug Boston Terrier mix is not the most energetic breed, but it is still very important to keep them active and healthy. Keeping your dog in good shape helps with their health and temperament. Give them at least a total of 40 minutes of activities daily. If you have yard space, you can teach them how to play fetch or let them play on their own with interactive toys. They have a few sizes available, but small would suit them best. You can choose from either chicken, bacon, or peanut butter flavors which also helps in keeping them interested. Zogoflex Tux is another toy that doubles as a fetch toy and a chew toy. You can stuff it with treats and kibbles. It will surely keep them engaged for long periods, perfect when you have to leave your dog alone. It comes in a dinosaur, hedgehog, or lion. Pug Boston Terriers Training Dogs of this mixed breed are smart and very eager to please, which makes them fairly easy to train. They respond well to praises and treats. It is important to start them on their training at an early age to help instill discipline and discourage their negative tendencies. The Boston Terrier mixed with Pug may inherit some traits that can become behavioral issues if not addressed early on. You have to be firm, but remember that these are very sensitive dogs, so you also need to be careful not to hurt their feelings. Using gentle corrections and offering incentives seems to be the best way to train this pup. Here are a few other tips for effective training: How to Deal with Stubbornness — All you will need is a clicker, a few treats, and their leash. Best time to do this is before you take them on a walk. Before leaving the house, take time to hold the leash and wait for your dog to look back at you without calling their attention. Once they do, just click and hand them a treat. Take a few steps forward, stop, and repeat. This method sends a message to your dog that by looking at you, they would get a treat. It is a great stepping stone to teaching them other tricks in the future. Keep in mind that you have to remain patient, consistent, and committed in their training. Teaching Your Dog to Stay Calm — These dogs can quickly lose their temper when they feel territorial — socializing them while still young helps them get used to the presence of strangers including other animals. You also can train your dog to stay calm and relaxed around other people or pets by giving them treats when they do. They are known to be goofy dogs and gets into mischief quite often. Funny and affectionate, this crossbreed loves playing, receiving attention and cuddling with their owners. They are the perfect companion, family dog, and watchdog. These small dogs are amazingly gentle around children. Their size also makes them easy to manage for new pet owners. They would do well in an apartment. Like most other dogs, they inherit traits that are very common in their parent breeds. In this case, they can have few health and behavioral issues, which are easily remedied with proper care and training. A Bugg is a cross between a Boston Terrier and Pug. These dogs tend to be small and are known for their adorable faces and gentle, fun, and comedic personalities. As a designer breed, they are not recognized by the American Kennel Club, but they are recognized by other notable dog organizations. Buggs are a great fit for single owners as well as families. They tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. They tend to be sweet, affectionate, and love to cuddle. They also tend to have an upbeat, fun-loving, and sometimes clownish personality. If left untrained or not socialized properly, barking can become a nuisance behavior and they can also become territorial. Although they are very sensitive to heat, the Bugg is a highly adaptable dog. They do well in apartments as well as larger homes with yards. They also do well in most climates, aside from heat. But, they have a short coat, so they may need some winter dog products to stay warm in colder temperatures. They also do not like to be left alone for long periods of time because they are devoted to their families. Potential health conditions to be aware of in the Bugg breed include luxating patella , cataracts, deafness, hip dysplasia, and encephalitis. As a brachycephalic dog breed, they will be prone to breathing problems, allergies, and will be very sensitive to heat. Their protruding eyes can also become irritated in the cold and you need to be careful to keep them clear of debris. As a small dog breed, they are also more prone to developing dental disease. So, practicing good dental care for dogs is also important. Buggs are intelligent dogs that are eager to please even though they can be stubborn at times. This tends to make them a good fit for owners of all experience levels. Puppy training classes can still be a good idea as they strengthen the bond you have with your puppy and also offer opportunities to socialize a puppy. As a small dog breed, house training can be a challenge. But, with consistency, some house training tips , and a lot of patience, you can get through it. Bugg puppies are also quite curious and energetic. They also tend to be prone to jumping up and climbing over people and furniture. The Bugg has a short coat that will shed a little year-round and potentially a little more as the seasons change. Monthly nail trimming can be enough to keep nails from growing too long. Floppy ears are more prone to ear infections than ears that stick straight up all the time, but all ears need to be checked regularly. Many dog owners overlook dental care, which is why gum disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. But, gum disease in dogs is serious and can lead to many other health issues. Brushing teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day is ideal and can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. The Bugg tends to have a moderate activity level. Daily walks plus some playtime or other activity are usually enough for this dog. Although they may have bursts of energy, they are small dogs and can wear themselves out quickly. They love being around you, so they will likely be up for more activity if you are. Just keep an eye on them to make sure they are not overdoing it. As a brachycephalic dog, they are more sensitive to heat and can easily become overheated. But, there are safe ways to exercise brachycephalic dogs to help your Bugg get the movement they need to stay healthy. A fully-grown Bugg usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. A Bugg generally lives for years. Bugg Puppies for Sale Thanks for visiting our Bugg page! How do you breed for a healthier English Bulldog? Like all things in life, breeding for health is simply a matter of priority. We are blind to many of the breed priorities that distract other breeders from improving the health of the English Bulldog. We focus on health and personality and very little else. We are not interested in winning a blue ribbon in the show ring. Rather, we test for things like elongated soft palates, narrow tracheas, stenotic nares, luxation in the patellar tendons, heart defects, cherry eye, optic cilia, entropion, ect. We focus and prioritize creating healthy bloodlines, therefore our bulldogs are typically much healthier than the breed as a whole. After breeding for health, what other priorities are you focused on? Our true desire is to create the perfect family bulldog. We also believe a bulldog bred for the correct personality is essential to the family unit as well. A Bruiser Bulldog is bred for intelligence and playfulness. We want our bulldogs to be full of personality and some quirk. We believe a full personality along with a little stubbornness is the true North star of the bulldog breed and is what makes the unique among other breeds. We look for these personality traits in our adult bulldogs and continue to create bloodlines that reflect these qualities. Erica and Mitch of Bruiser Bulldogs are just that. They are experienced, ethical and quality breeders. I was referred to them by my friend that I trust after I saw their gorgeous healthy puppy. Our Puppy Primrose is the light of our lives! Bruisers was there to assist us every step of the way. We would highly recommend Bruisers Bulldogs to anyone looking for their own happy, healthy pup! Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. They are experienced, responsive and knowledgeable about all things bulldog related. They went above and beyond for us and are truly dedicated to all of their pups! We love our little girl so much and would recommend Bruiser to anyone looking for a healthy beautiful bully. Jonathan E. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T. As your perfect pooch approaches the door, a smell emerges. The only logical solution is to get your dog into the bathtub as fast as possible to rid your house, your dog and your nostrils of the stench. A scenario like this is the most common time to give your dog a bath, but should you be washing your pet on a regular schedule? How often should you bathe your dog? The answer varies, depending on breed, lifestyle and coat. Even veterinarians and experts disagree on how often you should bathe your pup but the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals recommends a baseline of once every three months. The most tried and true answer to this question is personal to your dog and their needs. Do they spend their days frolicking in the grass and playing in the mud? Are they prone to run-ins with skunks? Or are they lap dogs who would rather cozy up inside? According to BeChewy, medium and long coat dogs should bathe every four to six weeks, and owners of dogs with short coats should bathe their pets somewhere between every month and every three months. The American Kennel Club advises against over-bathing dogs with thick coats — think Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers or Siberian Huskies — because it can strip oil from the skin that aids with naturally insulating dogs. Knowing when and how often to bathe your dog can be a learning curve, but another good indicator to use is to bathe them when they get dirty. Accidents happen. Use your sense of smell and touch as a timer for doggy bath time. Keep your pet healthy: Pet care tips every owner should know How often should you groom your dog? Brushing your dog regularly can lead to a happy pup and a happy owner. ASPCA recommends brushing dogs with long coats daily. Dogs with short coats can stand a once-a-week brushing. Some owners get crafty with their own supplies, but others opt for professional grooming to have their dog trimmed, clipped or shaved. Do dogs like baths? Like most answers to grooming questions, it depends on the dog. For dogs with bath anxiety, Rover recommends giving your dog something to focus on, like smearing peanut butter on the wall or supplying endless treats. You can also try bathing them like a baby — forgoing the shower head and using a bucket. The shaking is obvious — dogs shake or roll around on the carpet to get dry. Rover attributes this in part to a desire to return to a familiar scent by running and rolling around to get rid of the new, clean scent. Neat and fresh appearance Do Bulldogs Shed Bulldogs actually do shed, even with a shorter coat of hair. Regular grooming will help you control their shedding. This will reduce the rate at which you will have to clean up your carpet, furnishings, clothes, etc. The use of a furminator to reduce loose hairs instead of a conventional brush is also recommended in order to make the activity effective. If you want to know if bulldogs are hypoallergenic read HERE. Prevention of Potential Infection A culture of regularly grooming your bulldog is a preventive measure. Grooming provides added protection from potential infections. Stopping them before before they get the chance to hurt your beloved pet. As a word of caution, some infections that can onset due to a lack of proper grooming can make your bulldog very ill and even pose as a fatal risk to your bulldogs life. Proper grooming will minimize the chances of infectious occurrence. Good Oversight There will barely be anything that happens to your bulldog that will catch you by surprise when you are dutiful about your approach to the grooming. You can catch early symptoms of infections, potential allergic reactions, and other ailments. Regular grooming is a wonderful preventative measure when it comes to a healthy bully. Prolonged Life for the Bulldog Another benefit to regular grooming and having good oversight on your dogs health is its lifespan. On the flip-side, When you have not invested quality time and energy into the grooming of your dog, this will not shine as your proudest moment. You and your bulldog may want to hide in shame. Having been convinced of the numerous benefits that come with the regular grooming of your dog, you may want to know how to properly clean your bulldog. It may also help you be able to reach all around their body easily. Bathing You may be tempted to bath your bulldog daily to have a clean coat of fur and eradicate bad odor. However, this might not be as good as your think. Daily bathing can actually remove oils that are often present on the coat of the dog. These natural oils are essential to keeping smooth skin and a shiny coat of fur. You can watch our full video on bathing bulldogs on our YouTube channel. Hence, it is recommended you bathe your bulldog every two weeks or whenever you notice excessive filth. Avoid Excessive use of Shampoo Excessive use of shampoo can also make the fur coat of your dog appear jaded. Hence, you should be moderate with the use of shampoo when grooming your dog. Anything done in excess will become harmful. Just the same way excessive use of cosmetics affects humans adversely, it is also the same for bulldogs. The issue with this is that the skin and the hair will dry out. Dry skin and hair can create an irritation, which may cause bodily scratching, and possibly sores or cut skin. Every tangle in the hair will also be effectively dealt with through this activity. Loose hairs are also removed through this process. This will help you avoid the stress of having to clean off such hairs from your carpet later on. Regular Wiping of Face and Ears The face and ears of your bully should be wiped regularly. You should have pet wipes in order to achieve this. This will also help your dog stay healthy and maintain a good appearance. You should regularly check the ears to minimize the buildup of excessive wax. Read this great article on cleaning bulldog tear stains. Trimming of the Nails Both you and your bulldog are endangered when the nails grow too long. Accidental scratching, ripping stuffed toys or furnishings, and even the possibility of breaking a nail. If you are not using the tips provided, begin doing so today! You can prevent several infections just by the simple task of regularly grooming your bully. Your bulldog deserves your care and love. Your commitment to the regular grooming of your four-legged friend is a great way to demonstrate this. Post Views: 1, A medium-sized dog, they are not your typical lap dog, but would like to be! The Bulldog may be brindle, white, red, fawn, fallow or piebald. Breed Profile Bulldogs are recognized as excellent family pets because of their tendency to form strong bonds with children. They tend to be gentle and protective. The breed requires minimal grooming and exercise. Their short nose makes them prone to overheating in warm weather, so make sure to provide a shady place to rest. Source: American Kennel Club - www. This kind yet courageous dog can be bathed as frequently as every week up to no more than every six weeks depending on his lifestyle. With this smooth coated breed, regular bathing is essential to maintain healthy skin and coat. Lightly card the coat to help accelerate shedding. Once you have selected the best products for your Bulldog, it is bath time! One area to pay particular attention to detail is the facial area. A facial cleanser allows you to focus on the entire facial surface as well as any facial wrinkles. Any wrinkles, however minor they may be, can hold bacteria. It is imperative to pay particular attention to those areas. The facial scrub can be used in between baths in order maintain freshness and good hygiene while helping to lift fresh stains. Finishing the Dog: Tools and Finish Grooming This kind, courageous, yet dignified dog should be bathed and groomed on a regular basis. In order to keep the short, smooth coat in prime condition, it is always beneficial to use a hydrating spray following the bath and drying process. This allows the skin and coat to lock in moisture in order to maintain perfect hydration. As a finishing touch, before using a hydrating spray, use a grooming mitt and massage in a circular motion to stimulate the release of natural oils in addition to the removal of any excess loose hairs. Then finish with a hydrating spray. General Health Care Prep work is the foundation of all grooming. Prep work includes ear cleaning, nail trimming, anal glands, and proper dental hygiene. Mastering these skills sets the professional pet stylist apart from the rest. Prep work should be done before every bathing and grooming appointment. All dogs need to have their ears checked and cleaned on a regular basis. Proper nail care is also very important. Long, unsightly nails are uncomfortable for the dog, as well as anyone they might jump on. Long nails also compromise the shape of the foot. Trimming the pads of the foot helps give the dog good traction on different surfaces and can minimize the amount of dirt the dog tracks into the house. It also affords the opportunity to treat and condition the paws from cracks and abrasions. Anal glands should also be checked and expressed if they are full. Some caring pet owners prefer to have the anal glands done by their veterinarian. Good dental hygiene is essential for a healthy pet as well. Nutritional Care In order to maintain healthy skin and coat as well as overall health, it is important to provide good nutrition to your dog through a well-balanced diet, vitamins, and healthy treats. Do they require a lot of grooming? If you are not a fan of cutting hair, then you have made the right selection of choosing a Bulldog. This smooth, short haired bundle of joy requires minimal grooming. However, weekly brushing is recommended. It is important to wash their face and pay particular attention to the wrinkles at least weekly if not twice a week. What is a common problem in bulldogs? The Bulldog is a member of the brachycephalic breed class, meaning that is has a short head and snout. This physical characteristic can lead to a number of possible health challenges, including those of the nose, eyes, teeth, and respiratory system. The nostrils are narrower, and the soft palate longer in the Bulldog, creating the potential for severe breathing problems, especially when the dog is overheated or over excited. Heat is a special concern with this breed, since it is not able to cool itself efficiently through panting, as other breeds do. Some of the major health problems the Bulldog is susceptible to are keratoconjunctivitis sicca KCS , ventricular septal defect, canine hip dysplasia CHD , shoulder luxation, internalized tail, stenotic nares, and elongated soft palate. The Bulldog has also been known to suffer from urethral prolapse or vaginal hyperplasia occasionally. Some minor problems affecting Bulldogs include entropion, cherry eye, elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, distichiasis, ectropion, and demodicosis. Do Bulldogs shed or cause allergies? Bulldogs do shed, but not as much as other breeds. There are breeds that produce less dander than other breeds. However, Bulldogs are not one of those breeds that produce less dander. Are Bulldogs good with children? Bulldogs are dependable and predictable. Because of this, the make a wonderful family pet and actively solicit human attention. Like any breed, you should never leave your Bulldog unattended with small children. What if I have a show dog? Whether you have a show dog or a companion quality dog, the same basic care is given regarding nutrition, socialization, and hygiene. The difference is the conditioning of the dog and conformation training. It is always quite helpful if your breeder can help mentor you to lead you in the right direction upon entering the wonderful world of dog shows. A great place to start is with the national breed club like the Bulldog of America, www. May we suggest.Pin1 1 Shares Washing and bathing are one of the biggest concerns new Frenchie owners have. How often should you bathe a French Bulldog? Ideally you should bathe a French Bulldog no more than 5 times a year to avoid drying out their natural skin oils. However, this is very impractical in most cases, so the rule of thumb is to bathe them when they are smelly and very dirty but using the right cleaning products. Well, let me give you a personal example. We take Claude for his walks every day, and for half of the year that means a lot of mud. He loves to cool down in muddy waters as you can see in this photo and will always get mud caked up his legs and under his belly. We need to bathe our French Bulldog more often than we would like due to his playing habits! Now, do we then want that muddy Frenchie in our living space and on our bed? No, of course not, so we do have to bathe our French Bulldog more often than we would ideally like. And I am sure that will be the same for you. So, how often do we bathe our French Bulldog in reality? Well, for us, probably a couple of times a month. You spray it on their coat, then wipe them down with a towel — meaning no bath or shower needed. You can see the dry shampoo we use on Amazon. But what does this mean exactly? Well, Frenchies have oils in their skins, just like all dogs do. It keeps their coat healthy, and their skin healthy too. We need to bathe as French Bulldog Claude as often as twice a month — not ideal, but needs necessitate regular washing. What products are best for bathing your Frenchie? With that in mind, we know that the reality is you will be bathing your Frenchie more often than 5 times a year. So, what cleaning products should you use that will help to not just keep their natural oils in check, but also alleviate any itchiness or allergies? It needs to be something that ticks these boxes: PH balanced. How often should I bathe my French Bulldog puppy and what are their grooming needs? French Bulldogs sport a short and smooth coat that should be relatively fine to the touch. You do not want to over wash your Frenchie and dry out natural skin oils. We bathe our Frenchies on an as needed basis which is generally once a month , but we regularly spot clean them with wet washcloths or wet wipes unscented and for sensitive skin. Their behinds occasional need to be wiped clean as well, as does any other breed. The bottom line is that they should be washed as needed, and if your acceptance level of what is appropriate cleanliness is different than ours, it should not be a problem. There is quite a range of latitude in bathing frequency. There are many good dog shampoos on the market and it is really just a matter of personal preference. They can be purchased at any pet store, Walmart, etc. Years ago, when we owned a Yorkie, our vet recommended using baby shampoo because Yorkies tend to frequently get goop around the eyes; and, the baby shampoo allowed us to clean the area around their eyes without irritating them. We still use baby shampoo with our Frenchies since they have lots of folds on their faces that require regular cleaning. If you decide to go with a dog shampoo, choose a mild formulated shampoo for sensitive skin; your vet may have some good recommendations. French Bulldogs are short-haired and have a single coat; so, fortunately, they do not shed as much as most breeds. Brushing their coat regularly with a rubber brush will remove any dead or loose hair — which in turn, will reduce the amount of shedding. The are prone to becoming damp and this is where infection can result. They also can collect dirt and food causing infections also. Utah has a very dry climate, so for us it is sufficient to regularly clean their folds with baby shampoo and then thoroughly dry them with a dry cloth. The frequency of maintenance varies from Frenchie to Frenchie, as well as climatic conditions. Frenchies with large, ropey wrinkling in a hot, humid environment would require the most attention; whereas, a lightly wrinkled Frenchie in a cool, dry environment would require the least. It is recommended that you clean the wrinkles out at least once a week initially and then vary your schedule based on the requirements of each Frenchie. Tear stains appear more prevalent on the lighter color Frenchies. There are many products on the market which claim to remove and or prevent tear stain removal, but the most commonly referred to method is the use of Desitin yes, the same ointment used for the treatment of baby rash. The ointment is spread along the length of the stain and after two or three weeks of application the stains should have disappeared. Care must be taken in both cases to assure that neither gets into the dogs eyes. The nose can be susceptible to drying out. The best way to remedy this is to regularly apply a smear of petroleum jelly Vaseline to the nose. This keeps the nose dark and moist. Our vet also recommended vitamin E just squeeze a little of the capsule , which we have found to work very well. Some people do not feel comfortable clipping their dogs nails and will take them to a groomer or vet. However, if you want to save time and money, it is a fairly simple task that takes only a few minutes. There are two types of of clippers: a guillotine or a scissor type. The guillotine is the easiest to use. The instructions that come with the clippers will guide you on how to use the instrument. Light claws are easier to cut than dark claws as the blood vessels and nerves that supply the toenail, called the quick, is easier to see. Cut the toenail to within approximately 2 mm of the quick. If you cut into the quick, the toenail will bleed and the dog will experience pain — nothing serious, but they might not sit too still the next time you undertake this task. When cutting dark toenails, it is better to cut just a little off at a time. Some Frenchie owners, who have dogs with dark toenails, cut them once every week or two so that they only have to cut off a little at a time, avoiding any fear of cutting into the quick. If you do accidentally cut into the quick, no harm done. Bleeding generally stops within a few minutes it helps to apply pressure with a paper towel. Have More Questions?

Breed Title Goldador Puppies Temperament Goldadors are an amazing combination of the intelligence and trainability of the Labrador and the friendly, gentle personality of the Golden Retriever. With their outgoing, friendly character and sweet disposition, Goldadors make excellent family pets around children and other animals as they have a great aptitude for understanding people. In terms of temperament, these beloved pups are highly sociable but not overly boisterous or hyper; they enjoy playing fetch but rest just as happily on your lap or at your feet while you work. Golden Labrador Retriever Puppy Health Considerations Though generally very happy and long-lived — with an average lifespan of around years — our Goldadors for sale are not without their unique health concerns. Like every breed of dog, there are a few conditions you should be aware of before you consider purchasing one of our Golden Labrador Retriever puppies for sale. Understanding the risks allows you to know the signs and prevent small health concerns from turning into big ones. Finding a Golden Labrador puppy for sale from a reputable breeder can also dramatically — although, not eliminate — the risk of your dog developing some of these conditions. Depending on the climate they live in, Goldadors may need regular baths — however omitting shampoo once or twice a year will ensure their coat retains its natural oils. Finally it is recommended to check the ears regularly and trim nails as needed. Adopted Golden Labrador Retriever Puppies. Life Span Did You Know? The Golden Labrador is a designer dog breed that originated in the United States. They are a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Labrador Retriever. The goal was to combine these two highly popular breeds to create a dog that exhibits the best traits from both of them. A mixed dog breed can take after one parent breed more than the other or any combination of traits from the parent breeds. This can result in some variation among individual puppies. But, overall, a Golden Labrador is friendly, intelligent, energetic, and affectionate. Although this mixed breed is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, they are recognized by other notable organizations like the American Canine Hybrid Club and more. This large designer breed is characterized by their energetic personality and friendly disposition. Both of the parent breeds in this cross are open, friendly, and affectionate, so you can expect the same in your Golden Labrador puppy. They are very playful and get along fabulously with children, other dogs, and other pets. They may be alert enough to be a good watchdog, but they do not make good guard dogs. They are instinctually more interested in making new friends and getting attention than they are with anything else. They can have a slight prey drive, but most of the time, they are just curious and interested in playing and making friends. The Golden Labrador is a moderately adaptable dog breed. Their large size and energy tend to make them a better fit for larger homes with room to run. They can adapt well to apartment living as long as they are given enough exercise and mental stimulation. But, small spaces can be a challenge because they are large dogs that are so playful and energetic. Golden Labradors do well in just about any climate. As with most dog breeds, they are sensitive to heat and extreme cold. Because they love their families, thrive on attention, and get bored easily, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. As a mixed breed, a Golden Labrador can inherit the potential health conditions of one or both of the parent breeds. Although the Golden Labrador is a relatively healthy dog breed, there are some potential health conditions to be aware of. These include eye problems like progressive retinal atrophy and joint issues common to large dogs like patellar luxation and hip dysplasia. Like their parent breeds, the Golden Labrador can be prone to weight gain, which does put them at risk of diabetes later in life. Reputable breeders will screen their stock to ensure genetic conditions are not being passed on to puppies. Regular vet visits, proper nutrition, and sufficient exercise can help keep your dog healthy and reduce preventable diseases. Both of the parent breeds in this cross are highly intelligent and highly trainable, so the Golden Labrador should be no different. Eager to please their owners, these dogs pick up on things quickly and respond best to positive training methods focused on praise and reward. This dog breed, like both of the parent breeds, is a great fit for owners of all experience levels, including first-time dog owners. Their high energy can sometimes be a challenge, so you may want to consider puppy training and obedience classes. This designer dog breed may be called a Golden Labrador, but they can show up in many colors. A cream, yellow, or golden coat may be the most common, but a Golden Labrador can also have a black, red, or brown coat. It tends to be a dense double coat that is short or medium in length. This dog breed will shed moderately year-round with heavier shedding sessions twice a year as the seasons change. During seasonal changes, you may want to increase to daily brushing. Not only will this make your dog more comfortable, but it will also decrease the amount of loose fur that ends up around your house. In addition to coat care, you will also need to handle nail, ear, and dental care for your Golden Labrador. Floppy ears tend to trap more dirt, moisture, and debris, which makes them more prone to developing ear infections than ears that stick straight up. Unfortunately, this is often overlooked, which is why gum disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. Beyond that, you can use vet-approved dental hygiene chews and treats and even a specially-formulated dental care diet to supplement your efforts. Getting them used to it early and keeping it a positive experience can make grooming a lot easier as your puppy grows into a big dog! Plus, it can become a bonding experience that your dog looks forward to. Golden Labradors are high-energy dogs. Daily walks, playtime, and some extra activity are generally enough for this dog to stay happy and healthy. But, they will probably tire out before you do! Their friendly nature makes the Golden Labrador a great fit for trips to the dog park. Try teaching your dog how to play frisbee. With their retriever background, it could become one of their favorite activities. You can also train your Golden Labrador for several dog sports like agility, dock diving, obedience, and more. A fully-grown Golden Labrador usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between pounds. A Golden Labrador generally lives years. Although Golden Labrador is the most popular name for this designer dog breed, they are also sometimes referred to as a Goldador or a Goldador Retriever. Featured Golden Labrador Article.

german shepherd puppy exercise limits - Let us share with you a Frenchie to add to your family. A bit out our history.First, we would like to thank you for visiting Asgard Doghouse French Bulldogs. We personally know and understand the purchase of a French Bulldog is a big decision. Here is a little bit of history of how we came to be. It started off by seeing a black brindle Frenchie named George at the lake that jumped onto my paddle board. I knew at that moment, I had to have one. I met a very knowledgeable breeder of over 30 years in Longmont, Colorado and purchased my first Frenchie. I was hooked. They are truly like potato chips, it is hard to stop at one. With my background in training and showing dogs for over 30 years, I added breeding to the list. We have decided as a family to raise, sell and train French Bulldogs combining the best of both worlds and our love of Frenchies. We have now shared this love of Frenchies with our children and now they are raising and breeding Frenchie babies with us. Our puppies are raised in home and shown love and attention daily. They will come pre-spoiled. We are selective in our breeding so we can provide the best dispositions and conformation in our Frenchies. About Us How we got started We are a family, that quickly fell in love with the breed and could not resist bringing a few home. Our family has not stopped growing since. Our passion is sharing these amazing French bulldogs with others who feel the same way about the amazing breed. What we do We are an in-home hobby breeder of the French Bulldog. Specialized in standard and exotic French Bulldogs, located in Northern Colorado. All of our frenchies come from the healthiest American and European Champion bloodlines and are all registered with the American Kennel Club AKC as are all puppies that leave our home. Our passion Our family has a passion for French bulldogs, we don't kennel, or mass produce our frenchies we are a loving home for our amazing bulldogs, on occasion keeping a few puppies because we can't seem to let them go. We choose to breed only because our terrific AKC French Bulldogs are too loveable and adorable not to share. We screen all homes to ensure our frenchies go to caring forever homes. About the breed Often described as "the clown dog," the French Bulldog originated as a companion dog for royalty and continues to be used as a companion dog. The breed is small and muscular with heavy bone structure, smooth soft coat, short face, and trademark "bat" ears. Prized for their affectionate natures and even dispositions, they are generally active and alert, but not unduly boisterous, great with kids and other dogs. Watch out for scams The AKC is the only purebred registry in the United States with an ongoing routine kennel inspection program. The AKC has a dedicated team of field inspectors who visit kennels to ensure the proper care and conditions of AKC-registered dogs and verify that breeders are maintaining accurate records for their dogs. When selecting a puppy, it is always wise to ask for proof of AKC such as a pedigree for both parents prior to making any arrangements. Once satisfied arrange to see the puppy on site and always ask to see the parents if available. This is to help assess conformation and limit fraud from stolen frenchies and poor breeders. Also get a sense of the environment and all animals wellbeing. Ensure a puppy checkup has been conducted by a vet and first shots have been administered and documented. Also ensure a contract and health guarantee are available and take the time to read both carefully. Health guarantees typically cover the puppy for congenital life-threatening defects. At this point you have found a good breeder if satisfied it is safe to purchase your puppy. We are seeing pictures of our French bulldogs in unauthorized places. Some scammers will steal pictures from websites and use them as their own to run scams on unsuspecting buyers. He is the funniest, happiest and sweetest puppy I have ever seen. I did not think dogs could become such a big part of your heart, but we can not imagine life without him! Morgan: When we first got Lola we had no idea she was going to become so spoiled and run the house!! Our family loves her so much!! She loves to play, run and cuddle. Lola has the best temperament and we can take her anywhere!! She never meets a stranger and is really great with kids. She can definitely be a handful at times. Like when she is having too much fun outside. But, we would not trade her for anything!! They are so personable, and each one has her own personality. They are always glad to see us. They love snuggling when we sit on the couch. They love it when they get to travel with us whether it is a trip to the store or across the country. They are always excited to load up in the truck. They get along well with our cats and love to meet other people. They can have fun no matter where they are. They are so much fun to just hang our with. They are like sweet, funny, cuddly tanks. They can be zooming around the house one minute and snuggled up on my lap the next. For me, Frenchies are the perfect dog!! People always ask me how I got started in breeding. Well I'm not exactly sure as I owned a retail antique store at the time. So I suppose my love of Frenchies started in with purchasing my first Frenchie Moxie. Soon after, I felt the calling to be a full-time stay-at-home bulldog mom. It started as a passion for dogs and a hobby, then grew into an obsession with this breed like many others can agree. From there, my love of Frenchies and my other passion for business combined, and here we are today with some of Colorado's Best French Bulldogs. You might find information on them from time to time here on my website. All our dogs are family pets first and puppies are raised in home here on the Western Slope of Colorado.
