Brush right to the skin with a stiff brush or rake. If the dog mats at this point she will have to clipped short by your groomer. Hair Coat The hair coat feels very similar to the hair on your head. It is unlike the feel of wool or fleece. The hair coat will shed. It requires little attention. Puppies will often look like they are going to have a fleece coat until the hair comes through the puppy coat at about eight or nine weeks of age. It is hard to get a brush through the curls if you leave it too long. Without this regular brushing right down to the skin mats will form next to the skin. Mats make it very uncomfortable for the dog to walk and run and play. We keep our wool coated dogs clipped short because we live with fields of weeds and burrs. It is quite possible to keep a wool coated dog with a long coat, it simply is a matter of keeping up with the brushing and keeping feet, faces and bums clipped. This would be a trip to the groomer at least every second month. Every six weeks keeps dogs in both long and short coats looking and feeling like movie stars. Grooming For Every Doodle No matter what the doodle coat there is grooming required. This can either be done by an interested family member or your groomer. Ears Fur grows out of the ears of a labradoodle. It begins its journey deep in the ear canal. If ears are not keep clean and dry dirt and wax can lead to severe ear infections. You can tell when the doggie has hot ears that there is a problem and a trip to the vet will be in order. Some doodles love to dig and have very thick fur in their ears. This means it could be a good idea to pluck the fur from deep in the ear. It is not difficult to take tweezers or better still a hemostat and pluck out the fur on a regular basis. I must say I almost swooned the first time I did it myself but it does get easier. Unless you are an expert it is a two person job, one to hold the dog and promise treats, the other to pluck. Your vet can recommend an ear drying powder which will keep the ears in good health. Of course, your groomer will do the ear plucking for you. If you take your dog every six weeks she should be fine. Here's a profile example of a modern bulldog skull. They have very short snouts compared to other dogs. Notice how far forward the lower canine teeth are in comparison to the upper canines. Step 4. They are fat and wrinkly and they have giant heads and paws. They grow into these features as they get older, but not to the same extent as other dogs. Bulldogs always have big heads and lots of extra skin. To draw a bulldog, let's first lightly sketch some basic construction lines as a guide. Use a 2H or harder pencil so the lines are easy to erase later on. Draw a circle shape for the head and a warped oval shape for the body. The rear of the oval should be level with the shape of the head. Let's have the dog with its head turned directly towards us. First draw the eyes. They should be a little higher than the middle of your circle. The eyes are far apart from one another, but make sure that the pupils and iris's are perfectly round and looking straight at us. Leave a small dot of white on each pupil. Draw numerous creases and folds around each eye, especially in the middle of the two. Next, draw the nose directly beneath the eyes. The nose should be fairly wide. The nostril holes are thin oval shapes that have small slits protruding from the bottom of them and wrapping around either side of the nose. There is a small vertical slit on the front of the nose, and a longer vertical slit just below the nose. Now draw the large jowls falling down either side of the snout. They should hang well below the nose, aligning with the bottom of the circle guide of the head. The middle of the jowls curve upwards and connect to the slit below the nose, creating an upside-down V shape. The chin should appear fairly small because of all the excessive flesh hanging down around it. But be sure to draw a few rolls of flesh beneath the short neck while you're at it. Step .Let's draw the contours of the head and the ears. The ears are on the top of the head above the eyes. They fold over so that the tips face us. Draw some creases inside the inner ears. Add more detail to the head by drawing more wrinkles and folds. The forehead should have several short creases, and there should be a few long, curved folds around the neck area. Draw the front left leg next. It should be stepping forward and planted firmly on the ground. The top of the paw should align with the nose. The leg is short and fat, but it gets a little thinner near the pay. Be sure to draw small claws on the tips of the toes and a small pad behind the paw. Next, draw the shape of the body. There should be numerous vertical folds and wrinkles behind the head of the dog. The flesh should smooth out as it gets closer to the rear, which should be as high up as the head. The underside of the dog should have a smooth, slightly warped diagonal line. Now draw the left back leg which should also be planted firmly on the ground, but stretched back slightly. The upper half of the leg is significantly thicker than the lower half. We can now draw the legs on the right side of the body. The front leg should be off the ground slightly so that we can see some of the pads on the bottom of the paw. Be sure to draw the small dewclaw on the side of the front paw, as well as the small pad on the back of the leg. The rear leg should be on the ground, but it will appear higher than the left rear leg due to our perspective. It should also be further forward than the left. Draw the short, curly tail at the top of the rear. Is should just look like a fat U shape that has been smashed together. Some bulldogs have spots all over their body. Ours is going to have some large spots. The markings should be made with a fine tipped pencil. Flick your pencil along the page to make quick, short lines along the edges of the markings. The markings should look random and mold to the contours of the folds. The tip of the nose and mouth should have a large splotch that will be black out later on. We can now ink our image! Use either a brush and ink or Micron markers. Be patient and be careful not to erase any unneeded guide lines. When the ink has dried, erase the pencil marks with a kneaded eraser. You can add a greater sense of depth to the image by giving it some shadow and blacking out the markings on the front of the snout. Add shadow to the inner ears and to the upper portions of the right legs. Also shade alongside some of the larger creases of the fur. If you need to make corrections, you can use white ink or opaque white paint. And that's how you draw a bulldog! Very nice work!

If you have gotten a puppy from us before, she is the person you interacted with. She has been the photographer, website editer, email and phone person and the general PR manager. In March of Ronda was diagnosed with an agressive form of cancer with a bad prognosis. Her family was hopefull for recovery though. Ted has always been a part of Red Retriever but more behind the scenes. We appriciate your understanding going forward as Ted learns the ropes of the website, photos and correspondence. Interestingly the cross is quite similar to early golden retrievers as seen in this painting. The Golden Retriever has been bred for lighter colors in recent years because this is favored by the AKC. Our Golden Irish puppies tend to be darker in color. How'd we start? Growing up my wife's family raised Pekingese. She loved their dogs and the litters of puppies that came and went. We wanted our children to have a family dog and to share the puppy experience with them and so we chose to raise Golden Retrievers. My family had a Golden Retriever growing up. My wife always dreamed of having a Golden Retriever or Irish Setter. We got our first Golden in and named her Mandy. We had 4 wonderful children ages 7 to 17 and our lovely dog Mandy. Mandy went everywhere with us. We lived on acres along the Calapooia River where the children would explore with Mandy at their side. Our 2 boys were passionate about the outdoors and loved to hunt and wanted a specific dog to train. It wasnt hard to convince their mom, but took a little longer to convince me. But convince me they did. They chose a male and of course named him 'Big Red'. The boys did an amazing job training the 3 dogs. We had the 4 dogs and plenty time and attention to offer them with the energy and passion from the 4 children. Cody and Mandy had their first litter of puppies in .The puppies were all healthy and delightful. The experience was just as my wife remebered as a child and she was happy that our children were able to enjoy the same experience. It was rewarding to place the puppies in wonderful homes. The pleasure and excitment the families portrayed as they picked up their puppy was addicting. The friendships we gained were rich. Ginger, trained by Josiah, was the cleverest dog we ever had. We were planning to breed Ginger with Cody. In the summer of Ginger came into heat so we would put Ginger and Cody in seperate kennels, on a cement slab, when we went to town. We were waiting for her to be in midcycle to breed her. I came home at dusk, one night, and let her out and she immediatly disappeard. We ran for a flashlight and found her in Big Red's Kennel. Big Red was our Irish Setter. We were devastated and felt like we had failed as breeders. However, we found that the puppies were extremely smart and farther advanced as they aged compared to our Pure Goldens as puppies. They were much calmer than most Irish Setters, and were more athletic than most Golden Retrievers. We knew these dogs would be a hit, and they have been. The first families to contact us were families specifically looking for the mix. They shared their stories of growing up with Golden Irish Mixes. Over and Over we heard how they were the best family dog they ever had. Why we Continue The Golden Irish was not merely something stumbled on by accident. The original accident was precipitated by a years long love of both the Golden Retriever and the Irish Setter. I was fascinated with the grace and freedom that contrasted the Irish Setter from more conventional setters in the story. He, rather, romanticized the hunt as a thing natural to the dog and foreign to the dogs human companion. Big Red knew what he was doing when he hunted. Big Red was the master hunter and Danny was his mere apprentice. Irish Setters can be strong willed. They are intensely loving and loyal but they do not have the level of automatic obedience seen in some breeds. They are majestic animals who do require some work during training to reach their potential. Unfortunately, because as the world has urbanized, the required space for an Irish Setter to shine has become rare, and this magnificent breed has seen declining popularity. Irish Setters are creatures of the open fields and the ubiquity of automobiles has ensured open fields are rare. We are fortunate to live in an area of the country still rural enough to allow the Irish Setter to run. But even we have to find time and space to give our dogs this opportunity. After almost 20 years experience with both Goldens and Irishes I have concluded that the main character trait differentiating the Golden Retriever and Irish Setter is patience. The Golden Retriever was bred to patiently wait for the hunt. The Irish Setter was bred to go out and make the hunt happen. Both love to chase things. Both can have seemingly boundless energy. Both are loyal companions. The Golden Retriever will wait for the ball to be thrown and the Irish Setter will grab the ball and expect to be chased. The Irish Setter is proactively invoking the hunt, whereas the Golden Retriever is awaiting its arrival. We were no experts at first and have learned a lot in 20 years. It turns out the patience of the Golden Retriever tends to be inherited by the Hybrid making them more suitable for Urban environments. It also turns out that the grown dogs can be stunningly beautiful. We have improved our breeding over the years and no longer hesitantly advertise. It does appear that it is a completely separate gene than the other poodle colors. Red Poodles are the newest color developed, it only became an official color in .A red poodle will have black points, nose, gums, under paws and very dark eyes. Liver points are acceptable, but not preferred in red poodles. Red poodles are a stunningly beautiful color, one that is very close to the color of humans with natural red hair. Poodles come in the light red new copper color to the darkest of any human with dark auburn hair. Ilse Konig was the first person who developed the red color of poodles.
